Baker został nazwany przez prasę popularną „hipisowskim satanistą”, ponieważ w chwili aresztowania miał przy sobie zarówno LSD, jak i egzemplarz Biblii Szatana. Chociaż Baker miał później powiedzieć zarówno funkcjonariuszom organów ścigania, jak i współwięźniom, że brał udział w „kulcie picia krwi” w Wyoming, później wyznał, że jego zbrodnie były w rzeczywistości wynikiem zażywania przez niego narkotyków i nie miały nic wspólnego z satanizmem. Niemniej jego związki z ruchem Cztery Pi, sektą z Kalifornii, były dosyć wyraźne i dzięki jego zeznaniom policja uzyskała wiele cennych informacji na temat grupy.
