some surprising picks, but there's still a lot of good

Ay And it's weird in a way, how little I
was invested in the first run of the draft compared
to a previous years past. I'm not saying I didn't
be here. I'm not saying that I didn't tune in
at times, but there was some flipping around, and uh,
I actually gonna be more locked in for the second round.
I'm like, oh yeah, every other year of my.

Life, I actually find myself a little more excited for
this second round seeing how the players fell. Or remember
we were talking heavily about how the nil could influence this.
We had no idea how the international player would influence this.
I saw like a lot of people from France getting drafted.
You know, there were a lot of international players that
were in this mix. And it's good to see that

the game is expanding that way. And you know what,
I do believe that it helps and it bodes well
for teams like the Pistons, who have good scouts, who
have guys that can go in there and find those
diamonides in the rough, and obviously they're gonna be tested here.
A lot of people like Bobby Clintman or at least
what he promises to be. And now when you're looking
at this again another year, number thirty seven, there's some

talent on the board there and there's one player who
I didn't even think would make it to the second round? Man,
do you know who that would be?

Would that be a Maxine Reynod or someone else?

I didn't think Maxine would go, but I knew he
had a chance. But Rashier Flemings, Oh yes, yes, I didn't.

things that are for sure promising. We're gonna get to that.

still was dominant, but it wasn't his best stuff. To
see them right roster their feet after his age strikeout,
and then the next night as well, there was a
play that I forget the exact play, but I know
Nick captured it and it wasn't necessarily the best play.
And to see the way the fans stood to applaud
and to be able to pick them up, I was
just like, you know what, this is what it's about.

It's not as if they're standing up and chearing for
a team that's had it for the basement of the
mob standings, but it's for a squad that they know
this is a World Series continning team and it's gonna
be interesting to see how they do the rest of
the rest of the way. Man, but shout out to

somebody that we all wanted. We all love his talent.
It's not even just a Michigan thing. It's just his
talent always dictated that he was going to be a
first rounder. But there was always that fever dream of Ah,
are people concerned enough with his lack of refinement that
maybe he falls? He did not. He is unavailable to
the Detroit Pistons, and I'm a little disappointed. Not gonna lie.

I was, man, I was in the media room. It
got late. It was getting to the point where, you know,
since Pistons didn't have a first round pick, pr theist
stay home and they go in a room and in
the party with us and shout out to man. My
man was over there, like, yo, I swear to you.
It goes way faster when you're there. He's like, I'm
about ready to go to sleep. And it was like
pick fifteen. We were all in there like by pick fifteen, like,
oh my gosh. But when we started seeing like Jace Richardson,

when we started seeing Danny Wolf, when I started seeing Maxine,
when I started seeing you know, some of these players
continue to fall, all of us started to kind of
park up a little bit. The conversation picked up, and
we were just talking about the fact that Mark sinkofo
the Free Press, and we were just talking about the
fact that, yo, is it a real possibility that both
Jason Danny slide. I was like, man, the Big ten

was having such a good a good round. And how
many picks did you confirmed? Was it six or seven?

Speaker 5 (07:39):
And the Big ten seven? Big ten? It would be
two Rutgers, one Maryland, Derek Queen one two Illinois, a
Michigan State and a Michigan.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
It was like big ten in the international first round,
and you know, to see them get picked, I text
you we were in lockstep. I was like, bro, sad
for me, happy for Danny Wolf.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Happy for Danny Wolf. But but honestly, and I want
to get to you JB. Because Jace Richardson. Obviously you
love him as you should. He was great for Michigan State.
He was a one and done, a great prospect, but
there were some concerns about his height. Are you surprised
that he filled at twenty five?

Speaker 7 (08:18):
Filled to twenty five, but also surprised that he actually
got picked in the first round. I thought he would
have been a day to round two type of person.
But the Magic saw something in him, and obviously tom
Izzo seen something in him as well too, trying to
push him out of college to go pro. He's like,
there's nothing more I can teach you. You need to
go now, And I guess it was a perfect opportunity.

(08:39):
He's in a good spot, especially where the Magic are
after this current trade. I don't know how much playing
time he'll get. He'll definitely have to prove that. But
if anything, you know, G League is still an option
that he can you know, pursue to help get him
on a spot in the Magic roster.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
And you know, talking about the G League, I'm glad
that it no longer has some of the connotation that
it previously did. You know, players used to believe you
go there and you might be there forever. Now you
know that you have a direct connection with your team
with the invention of the two way contracts and player designation.
So I like what's going on with the G League.

(09:16):
It allows you to be able to truly have a
project player, because a project player shouldn't be somebody who's
just sitting on the indio bench and then still don't
really know what to do even in practice. I just
continue to think about Darko showing up like, oh I
thought I was, you know, showing up drunken and smoking,
because I thought that's what a bad boy was. I'm
like the boys that like, just come on, man, you
got it. I like what the G League is. It

(09:38):
allows targeted, focused attention to detail. We talk about our
own number thirty seven overall pick last year, and it's
interesting we got that pick again. This year Bobby Clintman.
He's a player who, through injury and through just trying
to get more acquainted with this game, he's been able
to play in the G League and have some success.
And I actually appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
I think that Jace Richardson actually has a bit of
an opportunity on this Magic team just based off of
what they need. And I understand it would be more
ideal if Jace Richardson was more of a peer point guard.
But he's you know, they've got a lot of they
got Franz, They've got Desmond Bane, They've got Wendell Carter,

(10:20):
They've got Powell, Ben Carrow, a lot of like forty
center type players.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
You know where I believe their mind is that. Honestly though,
when they were showing his highlights, you saw something of
potential that I believe they can take to another level.
He looked like Gary Harris on defense, on the hair,
to the defensive stance, to literally sticking to the player
like glue. And what did you see in this draft?
There were several times where the pit pick the player
didn't make sense from an offensive standpoint. You're like whoa, whoa, whoa?

(10:45):
This is like one time, they're like, your player is
still kind of offensively raw, but defensively he's one of
those guys, but defensively potential. You could see the way
this player could be defending the rim and protecting the paint,
and it was interesting to see that teams were doing
that in the same light of you just saw what
a sar Thompson step out onto the stage and he
was the one that got the out of approval, the

(11:07):
nod of the cap from Jalen Bronx like, no, he
is the real deal, and it didn't. I don't care
like people to bawl. He needs an two to three, bro.
He's a weapon on defense. Do you know how long
it's been since the Detroit Pistons have had a weapon
on defense? We gotta go back and say, man, I
might make the hair on the back of your neck
rays flannel.

It was an absolute weapon. I do believe that sar
Thompson will be a guy when it's all said and
done that we're saying this some similar things about him,
the way he's able to affect and shut and shut
down entire sides and halves of the court when he's
defending ISO players. So man, that's what makes me excited
as well about what we still have in front of
us in this draft because players, because these teams they

reached on or I won't say reached on. They valued
the international they value the big ten, they value the
defensive players, a lot, a lot of good talent to
still drop to the Pistons.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
I see will he be over there, ye Willis Willie is. Uh,
he's probably more passionate about the draft this year than
anybody in this room. So uh, he's been doing his
homework too, absolutely, So uh, take it away. Your thoughts
on the draft overall.

Balance, Like you said, big ten of international players, it's
been real different because I give it a C minus.

Speaker 9 (12:25):
First five picks brilliant.

I mean you got a I mean you got Billy,
You got to the Jazz, which is I didn't inspect
that coming of course. Cooper flag number one overall, wells
well deserved, and dyal And and Dalen Harper, but the
most important one, Philadelphia got a steal with VJ. Edge
Edgecombe solid. He's a he's a dog from Baylor for

(12:49):
the Big twelve man saw the pickup and and Jeremy
fears for he's an another combo guard that Joe Dumar's
pick up. Who's who you know took that position right now.
So Jeremy fears that's a good pick of Oklahoma. He's
a very good point guard and that would help out
because since Dante Murray was towards Achilles this this season,

(13:13):
so they needed a point guard for that. So I
thought it was pretty solid. And I'm happy for Danny
Wolf and I ain't even nobody suspect him going to
the first round. I mean, as we talked about second round,
and it'd be a good pick Danny Wolf did. Danny
will Gota picked up twenty seven, and you know that's
solid one. And Chase Richardson I thought we'd get I

(13:35):
thought in the mock draft he would be top ten
and doing his size, but I don't know, but he
got picked number ten.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
You know, I didn't think it was gonna be that
that low of a drop.

Speaker 9 (13:48):
I mean, I never I never thought he'd be lower
as a spect.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Be top ten magic pick man. But it's such an
Orlando Magic pick. And I think that they're doing some
good things, really do some small our stuff over there,
and they shored up that backcourt, their depth, their defense,
you know, they've been able to get a lot of
good out of young players. You talk about some of
the players we talk about now that are older for them,
those were players that they were relying on prior the

guys that they drafted. So they got something right with
that formula. Man, I really like the magic. And I
hate to say it.

Speaker 8 (14:22):
I got one question if you chill, gentlemen, Yeah, what
the pis? Get what in the second round? They got
a thirty two pick.

Soon no apologized, thirty seventh pick, Yeah, thirty seven, And
what's gonna be got here?

I'm not gonna lie Willie, Maxine or chast.

I was gonna say. I was gonna say Maxine Orrisher.
Fleming not gonna be there. We thought he was gonna
maybe go in the in the high twenties though, you know,
I mean, that's the thing.

Isn't he in trade up territory already? Isn't Cher Fleming
already in trade up territory? It's second round? Yeah, a
couple of second rounders and you can.

Go and get rid of I know, I know, but
the reason I mentioned, But here's the thing. He's in
the second round. So it's not like this Looney Tunes's
opinion that he might fall to thirty seven. Is it
a bit of a pipe dream? Sure, sure it's a
pipe dream, but it's a pipe dream is allowed to
be there.

I see the Kobe Brayer love as well. I've seen that.
I've seen that a lot, overwhelmingly, overwhelmingly. But I don't know,
Like I do believe the Pistons will have their opportunity
to draft Maxine right now. I will do. I think
they're gonna have that. And there are some people who
are all in, and then there's some people who are
just like No, I don't think that he's a guy.

(15:42):
I haven't seen too many people in the middle, And
I wonder where the Chat family lies to guys. Definitely
put in the chat who you want the Pistons to
pick if you think at this point in time it
makes sense for them to trade up, because we know
this Trajan Lane has said his philosophy and his draft
is best player available. That means that probably not their
like you to trade up, even if we think that
there is a player on because I don't think any

(16:04):
of these players are going to be necessarily ceiling raizers
for the Pistons. But as it relates to their floor.
I think it does help from a depth perspective, and
it helps from flexibility. They got some people on their bitch,
within their depth at the end of their roster who
they have to make some contract decisions on over the
this year and the next year, you know, including Sasser
next year.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
You've got some really interesting players, Robbie, Robert Sloppy, Toppenheimer
my favorite. Actually mentioned another guy. What about Ryan Kulkbrenner.
I'm not, like, I get it that he doesn't really
have the ability to stretch the floor like a Max
scene Reynat and Max Seine. To me, Max Seine, his

(16:45):
biggest attribute with me is like he could step right
in and at least play the pick and pop very proficiently,
or he did at Stanford very proficially at Stanford. But
Kulkbrenner is a rim protector. He blocks a lot of shots.
He's you know, can score down low, probably better than
anybody who's available right now. I'm not saying he's perfect,
but at thirty seven, you're not gonna get a perfect.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
I would go for maximum at thirty SEU. I think
that he's the player that should be there with all
you having to really do anything move. I just don't
think what shift lean is going to reach. I know JB.
Sure go to you soon, JB. But I'm wondering if
if you can get if you can trade back into
the second round. If you see a player that you
believe can be a specialist, we know that the way
that J. B. Bicker Staff coaches. And it was interesting

(17:29):
to be in these press conferences and I asked a
question to Isaiah Stewart and the Jalen Durant and separate
press conference is about you know what's driving the difference
behind this team right now? It seems like you guys
are showing up in a lot of different areas, a
lot of different players are basically pulled a weight, and
they say that JB. Bickerstaff he came to them and
was like, straight up, look, this is Detroit. Look at

(17:49):
y'all history. If you just stay in your lane, play
to your strength, you can be what you call a
star in your lane. And it's been interesting to see
these guys do this. And so if you see a specialist,
someone who you know can't protect the rim, is that
somebody that you say, you know, what if he falls
a little bit lower. We just go back and we
get that because right now the Pistons have the boaster
for today. This Eastern Conference is open, and I know

(18:10):
a lot of people don't count on a lot from
young players, but when you look at last year, we're
starting to see more and more young players contribute by
the end of the season.

If I see Fleming or Raynod at thirty seven, I'm
extremely happy. Absolutely. If I see Kulk Brenner, I can
definitely rationalize it and be like, he's got a particular
set of skills, but it's just.

Nicholas duncans.

H I personally, I like, yeah, showed a lot to
his entire Crowch career, especially this year you led that
Wisconsin offense. He can shoot, he can take it up
off the dribble, he can score all three levels. He's
not awful defensively, and even though he is one of
those older players, you've been seeing this renaissance of these
older players that have been going in the second round
in the late first round that have really panned out

in the NBA.

I think that john tonj could be of those guys.
Considering that he is just.

Such a overall like good prospect. He doesn't have like
something he necessarily does at an elite level, but he
does a lot of things well, and that's something that
in the second round, I think that it could be
a nice ad, especially when you're thinking about the guard
depth off the bench that we don't have right now
with no Schroeder.

No Beasley, and no THJ.

So I think that John tonj would be a very
interesting ad, especially because he's six' five and he's a,
wing so it's kind of like very similar To, sasser
but more in like the forward shooting guard role instead
Of sasser as a point.

GUARD i don't hate that at, all because if you're
talking about a second round, pick at least with, me
because none of them are, perfect we can all agree on.
THAT i want somebody who was, very very productive in
college And John tanjay he was an absolute demon For
wisconsin last year and justin you already basically laid out
his skill set AND i don't have too much to

add to. That but if you're talking best player, available
LIKE i. Could if IF i heard tonight with a
number thirty seven pick that pistons Like John, TANJA i
would be like. COOL i wouldn't be flipping like doing back,

he might be the. One but if you're saying he's

my third or fourth choice tonight and that it would
be a perfectly nice consolation, prize one hundred percent.

there has to be somebody who you know is a,
specialist somebody who you believe has high potential and your
development staff can get them uh to that, potential or
somebody you know's gonna come in and be able to

Dennis jenkins when it had to call On Dennis jenkins
at the end of the season When kate and some
of the other players were injured and, out he stepped

up and he played. Good so not only was he
locking down like players of the week and for the
cruise because he was, saucy he would the freaking league.
Up Denis Jenkins. Man he was. Funny then when he
got called up to The, pistons he did everything to
ask them to do, everything whether it was, hey your first,
minute your first seconds of the game is gonna be
the last thirty seconds of the game. Too there were
times where he was literally the backup guard When sasser

was playing more of those minutes in front of. Him
SO i like those. Players they do. Matter and you
talk about a long, season The pistons will utilize load.
Management i'm gonna say that, again The pistons will utilize load.
Management when we saw at the end of last, season
you will see at the end of this next, season
and you're gonna see them probably do it even more
to keep those legs. Fresh cade And beasley's legs were

in the priority waste dumpster somewhere for the. Playoffs let's
we can be honest about. That the athleticism was, down
the snappiness was, down and their shots were all. Down
we all know, who anyone who's hooped or even watching
them for a long, time what that. Is and that's

a player that that, yes it's a player that can
contribute similarly Like Dannis jenkins and give them some flexibility
when you know that you got some decisions to make

thiarro From, arkansas AND i know he can't necessarily shoot
the three that well or necessarily at, all but he's
got a really nice mid. Range he's very good, defensively
and he's a great. Rebounder and Like kuo had, said
when you're picking in this second, round you're looking for.
Specialists this guy is an elite defender and he's a great,

rebounder and that is something that you can always use
as a backup big in THE. Nba AND i think
that a throw will have be able to cut out
a nice role on AN nba roster being their backup defensive.
Big AND i think that that would be a nice
versatile piece that The pistons could utilize going down the
stretch and give you the flexibility if you want to

(22:58):
get rid Of beast.

TOO i think that before they even get rid of
a Beef, stu they would just Allow Paul reid to.
Walk you, know you have some other front court positions
there that you can affect and still Keep isaiah's toue
at least for a year or two to help coach
up some more of the dog. Pound you, KNOW i
like that aspect of it because it does take someone like.
Him you talk About Jayalen duran stepping too the podium and, saying,

YEAH i gotta miss SOME i was playing on some soft.
Ish it takes somebody in your locker room to tell
you that to your. Face and there's only a couple
of players in our locker Room Habby, Beasy stu and
k who probably told him that to his, face along
with J. B, bickerstaff along With Jalen durham who wants
to continue to get better as a. Player and so you,
know it's some great points, here, though, man because there

are some players THAT i do believe add to the
floor of what this team can. Be and another player
THAT i, Know anton is really really really big on
jacksonmoney out Of north To Kioto. State and this is
the reason why forty from. Three that's a skill set
that translate it doesn't. Matter it doesn't matter if you're
playing in a church league gym that has no three point,
line it doesn't. Matter you can shoot from half. Court

is it's. Wet it's like Like Terry falter are satisfying
the like button. Wet so When i'm looking at a
player like that who's fifty overall forty from, three twenty
five and, THREE i understand the level of competition he
might to play with three point shooting from a six
ten to. Forward it can translate to THE.

Nba, Yes and that's also what makes for Sheer fleming
so tantalizing because he shoots the three ball and has
great size for a wing as. Well but, uh you know,
