Speaker 1 (00:16):
Everybody, welcome back to us, the podcast exclusively for people
who know that we want to believe you. Where your
hosts as always. I'm Nick.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I mean i'm watching the show right now. It's uh wait, no,
we want to believe that. That's guy specious. I'm watching
X files right now. So I want to believe the truth.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
The truth is out there. We want to believe.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I want to believe. I'm Andrew Elsie and hey, today
is happy trans Dave. So we see you trans people.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Trans people are people and there's always been trans people.
So if you're a transphobe, don't listen to this podcast anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
We don't like you. Yeah, pretty much. So, uh that
tells you what day it is? Uh, Nick, what had
you been watching or what do you want to talk
about today? Like you want to talk about let's wait, wait,
shut up, okay, okay, you watch this Severance finale? Yes, okay, good,
all right, let's talk about it a lot. What were
(01:22):
your thoughts?
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I gotta know, man, I were a week or a
week late talking about it.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Can I just be real honest in that? How no
matter how how, no matter how much you love Severance,
it's a mind fuck. Yeah, like, I don't know if
there are ever going to be any actual real answers
that we obtain throughout the history of that show.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
I think there will be. I think there. I think
Ben Stiller has definitely said that we already have something
planned for the end, but we just how we get
there is going to continue to change.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
And I appreciate him saying that, Like Ben Stiller obviously
is rooted in this world and understands h you know,
I need to know more about reintegration, Like I need.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
To know too dangerous it's not a real thing because
they've like that wound apparently is not going to heal.
I just say I need I want to I want
to know more about it from like your perspective, because
you work in medicine. Obviously you don't work in surgery,
but something like that, it's we saw it performed on Helly.
(02:47):
We've seen the the external from I believe his friend
who originally reintegrated, and then also Adam Scott. It's looks
to be like almost like a wound that does not heal.
The best way I can think of, there they are malignants. Uh,
(03:08):
they're just lucky that a demon. Uh, what's it called
not a well parasitic twin, isn't it didn't share the
back of their head. So but they do share similar wounds. Well,
you know what, what what what are we looking at
like medically here?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
So first off, I want to state this, like we
saw signs of like the Any versus Audi. I don't
even know what to call it, like signs of them
kind of butting heads, I guess in the very first season,
in the very in the like second episode where Helly
(03:53):
wants to resign or Any wants to resign, yes, and
she literally says, mi, Audi wouldn't do that to me,
and it proceeds to like try to write herself notes
and you know, Adam Scott's character market, you know, stops
her at every it's not. So I want to see
(04:13):
more about that for one. Okay, Like I want to
see more about because I feel like you could build
upon that kind of duality. I think we're already doing that,
but I think you can do more Like it's not
It's not as blatant as it could be, is all
I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I don't know, I feel I feel pretty fulfilled with
with that right now. But I okay, but from a
medical standpoint.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yes, I agree with what you're saying. That is a
wound that is never going to heal.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
And Okay, like we saw what's his name deal with
like seizures and uh and eventually what's his name? Yeah,
can't think of his name, but I'm thinking Benny. But
that's I think that's just a uh No.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
I think it is Benny, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I don't know anyway he deals with caizars because obviously
he's had like the chip, like the little pill thing
extracted and it was an open wound on the back
of your brain. Mm hmm. What what's in the back
of the brain. What what I mean?
Speaker 1 (05:30):
That's like the cerebellum it is. I mean obviously there's
no part of your brain that is, you know, bad part, Yeah, indispensable.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Pit PD p D, thank you.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Okay. Uh. The cerebellum controls like balance, move your movement, pasture, learning, emotions, cognition.
This is all like in the cerebellum, which is that
back bottom part of your brain. Okay, So like obviously
a pretty fucking important part of your brain. Yes, damage
(06:03):
to it can cause just a whole ship ton of problems.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah, the the innies don't seem. I'm sure they had
some testing problems early on with with not mail check,
but uh uh, what's her name? Rosanna or cats character.
I'm sure they had plenty of people who died testing it,
(06:28):
but all the innis don't seem to have an issue
while the chip is there. Is it just because it's
blocking what's happening?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
It's blocking it.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, it's like a like a tourniquet, so like nothing
is getting Yeah, okay, exactly. I mean I'm just trying
to think like medically, like most of these would reintegration.
Look like medically.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Most of these people create these innis to escape trauma anyway.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, Like, so you think it's probably puncturing like where
we store trauma.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
I mean possibly, I think I think it's like blocking
the dam of allowing them to deal with that trauma,
because you know, I mean, like any Mark and Audie
Mark are two very separate people, not only in the
instance of you know, at Lumen.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
And not well, then any Mark might just be a
man who does not have a part of his brain
that holds trauma or at least wells.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Always happy at work. I mean, think about it that way, like.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
But then he starts to like form trauma.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Though, it's almost like the dam is weakening for Mark. Okay,
and and any Mark realizes that he can't survive if
reintegration happens.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Hasn't he already had the chip extracted though? Would they
just need no?
Speaker 1 (07:59):
No?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Because he's clearly still able to go in and out? Yes,
So I don't Yeah, what is is it just disabling
the chip? And if the chip isn't working, maybe then
it becomes an open like an actual open wound and
no longer blocked. I don't know. Okay, sorry, you brought
(08:21):
up immigration and that's where my brain was. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
And then well, and then you get the stuff like
PD in the in the first season where he's going
in and out of these pseudo memories and he's having
tremors and vomiting, and you know that. I don't know, man,
there's just so many fucking levels to this show and
(08:45):
we only have two seasons of it. Yeah, like they've
built this incredible mythology built we built this.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
I forgot to bring up Daredevil.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, we'll talk about that in a second, because I
have been watching Daredevil. But you know, the the mythology
that they built in just two seasons of television.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
That's been fantastic.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
It's pretty damn incredible.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, and literally, like I don't think really any stumbles either.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
No, there, you know, I bring up ted Lasso because
everybody talks about in season two and then very much
in season three, they felt that there were too many
filler episodes. So like, You've got Beard's Night Out, which
is what everybody points to as like an absolute filler
episode that was unnecessary. I tend to disagree.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I loved Beard, it was just it was like a
like you bring in a different director for something like
that and you get like, oh, hey, this is like
Beard went on like like.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
This is he the b line story he.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Almost missed the bus. Let's find out why why? Yeah,
I still made it.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I agree with you, but a lot of people point
to that episode as being a filler episode. I do
not feel Severance has had any what would be quote
unquote filler episodes every single episode of this show, even
if it's just a minute step I.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Would say almost something, I would feel like almost the
ort bow would be And then also then uh, what's
her name? Rosanna Arquette going back to the home her hometown. Uh,
that one could be, but that one was just like
we learned in that episode that she created the Severance chip.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Entirely every episode gives us a piece of information that
evolves the story.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
I think we just needed the ort bo just for
Mark and Helly to have sex and Mark no, Mark
and Helena to have sex, and then for John Taturo
to drown someone.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
He's like, I haven't drowned anybody on TV in movies yet?
Can we check this?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Can we this box?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I've I've already sexually like shined a bowling ball. What
I haven't done is is attempt to drown someone. Can
we get that? Like I've been peed on by a robot,
but I haven't drowned somebody yet. Like we Like I've
had to go.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Door to door to tell everyone I'm a petterass and
I've never drowned someone. Yeah sorry, h.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Yeah, So I don't think we and that Helena like
that ort bow almost makes me think that Helena has
a thing for any Mark. I think so too, because
I think she liked the way he treated her, thinking
that she was Helly. I think she has never had
(11:51):
anybody feel like treat her that way or treat her
as somebody who's not meant to be like the next
cure disciple, and I don't know, like and then I
felt that same way whenever she met him at the
Chinese restaurant. I felt like at some times she was
(12:15):
a little flirty with him and then obviously like she
would go back to oh I'm the CEO, and she
kind of like was mean. But I think there were
moments where Helena was like, I want any Mark, and
I think when she realized, oh, this is Audie Mark. Yeah,
he despises me too, but I had sex with any Mark. Yeah,
(12:40):
any Mark. I don't know, that's just me. I felt
a little like that whenever No, I agree, I wait
at the at the Chinese restaurant, That's where I was like,
I think she might have a thing for any Mark.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yeah. I do also appreciate that they decided again the
specific kind of cliffhanger that we received and you know
season one, and went with Mark making a choice running
towards this kind of dystopian conflict. Yes, Like I do
(13:15):
appreciate that, Like, I mean, they took a swing, They
took a big swing with.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
That, and the complete opposite of like the season one,
She's alive. And then in the second second season, he
knowing that she's alive and that he can see her,
and still choosing.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Still chooses well because he's not in love.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
He any Mark is in love with with Gemma.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Any Mark chose life because he knew that the how
short it can be. Yeah, he did. He realized that
making the opposite choice meant any Mark's death.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yes, so like any would be dead at that point
he would never again.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Any any Mark chose agency and and and chose life there,
which is a really cool thought. How this person inside
a person is like, no, I want to live, I
deserve to live.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
How good was that scene of Adam on Adam? At
first I was the camp quartered it got a little annoying,
like a little bit about like the fifth time in,
But then it got compelling because any like, dude, any
Mark is such a great character.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
I I personally like any Mark better than Audie Mark.
I think Audie Mark is a complete douche uh for
a reason reason.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
There are there are reasons for for a lot of things,
especially with Audie Mark. But the way any Mark just
turned when when for multitude of the reasons, when when
he was kind of disregarding his life. Then the fact
that he had never once like actually made an attempt
(15:04):
to contact any Mark. Of course what's it called Luhman
would have like not given them the truth. No, and
there's no way that any Mark would know that Audie
Mark hadn't tried, but which I think Audie Mark could
(15:25):
have used as a tool, would have been lying. But yeah,
it's that was like at first it was a little annoying,
and then it got incredible.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
No, super, super compelling television. I love that this is
a show that we have to watch. Yeah, because it's
unlike anything we've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yeah, it's fantastic. I We're a little late on it,
but I think we got some good points in there.
I think we got some good things in there.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Late, but hey, it was worth the way.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Brittain our Holy crap, that girl is like I like
I said, I've been mentioning. I've been a fan of
her for a while. I mean does not mean I
I present anybody for being a fan of her now,
But man, go watch like this is gonna sound bad,
Go watch like the early seasons of Man Seeking Woman.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
At one point, Oh, he's dating good, He's dating Hitler
and it's it's like, obviously you know it's wrong, and
the main character of the show knows it's wrong, but
everybody just gaslights him into thinking that was just like
seventy years ago, such a good just just so you know,
(16:42):
I mean, I say that lovingly that britt Lauer, her
character was dating Schmitler. But but it's very funny and
then you can't find it anymore. But Future Man, her
scene with obviouslyes mind you, he's only scene with Josh
(17:04):
Huttererson when she's like flirting with him is great. But
also her fight scene with Eliza Coop in that like,
it's very brief, but they the editing is really great
and I was, and then obviously they take her head
home and then it explodes. Uh spoiler for a show
you can't watch.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Uh yeah, literally can't find it anywhere.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
I'm sure you can actually pay for it. And that's
just been my one detractor of when I say you
can't find it now, I just don't want to pay
for it, Like I don't.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Want to spend money on a show that I have
already technically paid for through my subscriptions.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like Little Women and uh,
in the Favorite. I still need to really watch those movies,
and they're not streaming anywhere. I went to a local
video store, like probably spending more money on gas and
everything to get to my local video store which is
closing down in May. No, he's moving back to Florida.
I'm okay with it. It sucks, but if you knew
(18:05):
the guy who owned this place, you're like, yeah, you
belong back in Florida. Good guy, love him, had many
talks about movies with him. But yeah, so I can't
watch The Favorite or Little Image because I'm not spending
for some reason, I'm not spending the four bucks to
rent them. These two great movies that I should really watch.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
I get it. I totally get it. What else did
I watch this last week? Let's see here? I did
watch Ghostbusters this week. I can buy the Barry wanted
to watch it if our youngest son wanted to watch it?
Speaker 2 (18:43):
So did you watch all five?
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Just watch the first one?
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Okay, I was gonna watch the watch all five?
Speaker 1 (18:50):
I love them all yea for different reasons and in
varying abilities of love.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
The original will always be my favorite as well as
we'll say, yeah it is great because it's damn near
a perfect movie. So close.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
I mean, where do the stairs go? They go up,
they go up. It's been my favorite line from that movie,
at least my entire life.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
We get we get to when we get to the twenties,
I'm gonna throw up.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
So she sleeps above he covers four feet.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Or feet above the covers. And also, let's not forget
the majesty that is Rick moranis as the gate keeper,
the gate keeper, the key master.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
He's the key master, yes, which is only funnier because
he's always getting locked out of his.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Apartment.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Yes, and he can't get into the restaurant.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
That's why I invited a client's instead of friends.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
I can write, I can write these off. Yeah, you
have any of the salmon wholesale, buy the.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Generic a little anyway, Ghostbusters great movie. I been watching
a lot of wrestling lately because there's been a lot
of wrestling on wrestling.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Yeah, WWE has been on their European tour leading up
to WrestleMania. Yeah, it's been three weeks now counting this Monday.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
I think they got to come back a little bit
throughout the week. I saw back on her farm.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
I sure hope so. But I'll tell you what, those
international crowds are absolutely fantastic, just brilliant. And I don't
know if you were able to watch Raw today it
was it was again early, but the opening of Raw
(20:55):
on Monday, March thirty first was absolute brilliant in the
most brutal way possible. Uh, just two guys at the
top of their game, sparring with each other verbally in
the middle of the ring.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
It's great. I mean, Sena on this here.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
You have as much dick in that promo as are
You have more dick in that promo than you do
in your gene shorts. Was maybe one of the best
lines that I've ever heard in my life.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
I mean, nothing will ever like I my favorite John
Cena quote for anything, just because like you said, you
said something Cody said and I I apologize for uh
the track, but my favorite thing, uh John Cena has
ever said, it's not even in wrestling, is I gotta
upload this to Poolside bitch Side, Poolside bitch fights dot com.
(21:49):
And it's my like, when I think of John Cena,
that is the line that pops into my head. I
need to upload this to poolside bitch fights Dot. It's
it's from the movie Sisters, which was released on the
same day as The Force Awakens. You can see both.
(22:09):
That's how they marketed it. They were like, we come
out the same day as the Force Awakens. You can
see both. But yeah, I love that. And also, speaking
of see my.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Favorite hold on my favorite. John Cena is one of
two things from Peacemaker. Okay, it's either I refuse to
believe that at pepe the Frog eighty nine is lying
to me for no reason, which for some reason has
just stuck in your head stuck with me.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
I get it. Nobody remembers the movie Sisters, and let
alone my line that I remember from it. Okay, what
was the second one?
Speaker 1 (22:52):
The second one is just his war cry. We hear
it like thirty times in the in the series Eat Peace, Motherfuckers.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
I do need to rewatch that series. I love John
Scene is such a great actor.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Or Batman doesn't kill people that Augie his neighbor, his
little neighbor, Batman doesn't kill paper people, and he comes
back to him and says, because he's a fucking pussy god.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I love late stage John Scene. The current era of
John Scene is is actually my favorite era of John Cena.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Nick. I just got to bring this up. Somebody somebody said,
met my celebrity crush today and had her sign my
notes app. It was Kristin Ritter and she just typed
Kristen and I think that's fucking that's brilliant.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I love that. I don't know why for some reason
that killed me. Ah God, that's so funny.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
I love it. I fucking love it. Oh, Okay, one
piece of news real quick before we get into maybe
some daredevil. It just happened today. Yes, Blue Oyster Cult
(24:17):
came out in an interview and apologized to Christopher Walkin
for quote ruining his career. When asked about Christopher Walkin's life,
they said, quote, we really feel sorry for him.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
You know what, it is something that's going to follow
him forever, and he is such a prestigious actor. Yeah,
that sketch is one of the funniest of all time.
So you're you're involved and have the line from one
of the funniest sketches of all time, even if it's
ruined your life because people probably always say it to you,
(24:59):
you're part of one of the funniest things that's ever
been recorded in history.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
On a show that's been on the air for fifty years.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yes, that, like, I know it sucks because I'm sure
it's the same thing as Chappelle. Chappelle hated hearing I'm
Rick James bitch. Yeah, but dude, it's one of the
funniest things that's ever been on TV, on a screen
that people has seen breach people's eyeballs. It's one of
(25:27):
the fun like, at least the English speaking world, it
is one of the funniest speaking things ever. So yes,
but I appreciate them saying we're.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Sorry, sorry, yeah, because.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
You never know how something is going to affect another
person's life.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
But he's yes, the Bruce Dickinson, it's all the matters.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Don't ruin this first gene.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
I'm sir. If we don't have a lot of songs
that feature the cowbell, I'd be doing myself a disservice
and everybody in this band a disservice. But I didn't
play the hell out of it.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Nick, we both I'm sure you watched all of Daredevil,
correct pretty caught up because it has been i mean,
such a great like just show. It hasn't been like
action like heavy, but when it when it is, it's incredible.
But man, I mean the scene with John Burnhalu, dude.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
That may be one of the best scenes in Marvel history.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
It's leg John was so I mean, Charlie is really
good too, but John was so good in that scene.
Uh it, it was great. I don't know what else
to say about it. Like, I love the the kind
of investigation with the uh, like the the punisher, like
(27:06):
rejects whatever, the cops you think that they are who
don't understand the whole thing. How meta is that, by
the way, their entire season has been so meta. Yeah,
it's kind of have to do it that way. I
mean Michael Gandolfini basically like his scene with uh with
(27:30):
Fisk where he owns up to it and you're like,
that's probably what's happening is just these people kiss enough
ass that they don't lose their job because they just
make the guy feel good. Mm hmm, and that's all
that guy needs. Uh, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
I just going back to to to John Burnhal Like,
I don't know if they could have cast a a
more perfect actor for Frank Castle than that, because he
not only brings gravitas, to the role intensity, intensity, but
he brings an earnestness that is just like you have.
(28:16):
If you don't have that part of the character, Punisher's
just irredeemable.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Like that's a lot of the movies.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yes, that's that's that's the problem with the movies. Like
when you dig down into the lore of the character
from the comic books, it's not a one note character.
This isn't a guy who just kills to kill. Yeah,
there's a sadness there, there's there's trauma there, there's a
reason behind the madness and and there's also redemption in
(28:47):
that character. And John Burnhal puts that on the screen,
and I think that's what's so refreshing to see from
a litany of Punisher movies that pretty much sucked.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Yeah, I mean John Burnhal is also just a good
dude too. Yeah, it's the best part of it. The
season of the episode five, the height, like the bank
heist was really great and we got the dad from
Missus Marvel which was great.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
And a little teaser that she's out with our lady
Haley as bishop out in California.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Wait, who which bishop Kate? Bishop? Oh Kate Bishop? Did
they mention Kate Bishop would be out there.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
So she's out there with Kate.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I thought she was visiting her friend, the guy who
went to Kate Bishop. I figured it was her friend
who went to cal.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Tech, Kate Bishop.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Well, they didn't explicitly say that, though Marvel came out. Okay,
all right, Well.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
So they're hinting at West Coast Adventures adventurous is what
they're hinting at.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
I mean it was. I mean, I guess it wouldn't
really matter because they can.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Do whatever the fuck they want.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, but how expensive would it be to get she Hulk?
But she hopes also just one of the most divisive
characters for no goddamn reason.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
No, no, it's for a reason. It's because she's a
bunch of dudes or pieces of ship, I know, which
is kind of what the whole show was about at
a certain point.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Yes, And I mean.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
It's sad that those idiots made the point of the show.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
They really did. But luckily Tatiana Mazoloti is just like
so talented that it doesn't really matter. But I would
love to see she Hulk back. I mean, how do
you get Wickan over there? He's over like he's in
the East Coast man. He's trying to find his brother
Tommy can't. Like, I don't think his soul would have
(30:57):
flown all the way to California. No, No, he was
in a pool in van in some vans, so it's
very possible.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Maybe it's in California. I'm sure we'll see Tommy envision
quest so.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Oh yeah, I mean that's the logical place where he'd be.
But oh yeah, but I mean the the heist was great.
It kind of reminded me of like, obviously, oh god,
what was that Denzel movie. I love it?
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Inside Man, Inside Man, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Yeah, it was like it was very much like an
inside Man very much. So like it was great. I mean,
he was no Clive Owen, but I mean it's fine.
But I really enjoyed that. And then the episode six
was also so good. I mean, I feel like we're
just saying the same thing, but this like that episode,
(31:45):
I mean, episode five was very much a very big
departure of the show.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Oh big departure. But six Excessive Force is the name
of the episode.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Oh yeah, that was with Muse. Muse was the man
they made Muse that they did mus really well. I mean,
he's a relatively newer character, so I'm not I've been
aware of him just because I still follow comic stuff,
but I haven't really read his series. But man, that
(32:16):
was They got his like costume, right, they got the
entire thing, Like how kind of disturbing is I loved it.
I loved the entire like the I also really enjoyed
the graffiti. I can't remember the actual artists who did it,
but man, that was good. And then I also gave
(32:36):
basically I keep almost calling him what's his name, the
actual the president's name. I keep almost calling him that,
but Fisk, how he creates the that like task force,
no body cams and stuff like that, excessive force. I'm
(32:57):
very curious as to where that's gonna go, especially because
like what's his name? Daredevil is like back in the
hell's kitchen, yes, which probably coming like a version of
another White Tiger coming soon. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
I cannot express in words though, like how good it
is to see street level stuff in in Marvel again,
Like it's just so fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Yeah, nick uh, So have you did you watch last
night's Jim Stones?
Speaker 1 (33:38):
I am a week behind on jim Stones. I just
got up with the last last week's episode.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Nick, the amount of fake Walton Goggins Penis in this
season has already like eclipsed the first three seasons combined. Uh,
it's obviously it's not his, but.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Well, never leave us, buddy, never leave us.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
But it's the last season of jym Stones. My god,
they should they should, they should uh spin off and
and uh in Tiff, Oh my, it's been the season
has been so great. I mean obviously, like we kind
of finally got like the conflict in this epiod this season,
(34:26):
this for this season that involves uh, Megan Malalley. We
kind of finally Okay, this is what the conflict of
the season is going to be. But I actually think
it's going to be like obviously like a big red herring,
because I think they're going to end this this series
like on a on a high note, like, oh yeah,
(34:47):
a win for not so much the children, but a
win for John Goodman.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
I guess John Goodman needs a win.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Yeah, I mean they I'm excited to see where they go,
just because there's only so many episodes left. Oh my god,
this I think not in this most recent episode, the
episode before what's it called.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Are weis to grieve like the rest of men who
have no hope. Last week's episode.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Okay, yeah, that episode. Have you watched that one?
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Okay, the the speech Keith Gibs when when Kelvin is
afraid of the lightning because he's having like repressed memories
come up. Yes, the Devil's piss was like it was
so like the entire thing. Just how slowly he gave
(35:54):
that speech was so funny. My god, Tony Cavallero, you
are I think the MVP of this season so far.
Holy crap that it's it was so ridiculous, Tim Balls. Unfortunately,
(36:14):
they're like, I'm sure you saw him inspire like scorpion himself, right, Yeah,
and what's her name, Judy Jimstone, like angry at everybody
else because of it, like how like whenever before as
she was leaving the hospital thinking that other people were
(36:35):
going to make fun of him, so she was naturally
just attacking them before they could attack her. But they
had no intention of ever like commenting on She's just
afraid of what she would do, yes, if she saw
somebody like him, and just the level of that is
Eddie Patterson is fantastic as well, she always is. Tim Balls,
(37:00):
I think like, hopefully we get more of him later
in the season. He kind of had like a scene
in this most recent episode.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
But man, am falling off that pole so funny? It's
so funny.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
It was so funny, man, God, but this most recent
episode is so good. I can't wait for a couple
episodes from now. Actually, I think it actually might be
the next episode the top following Christ's Follower of the
Year or something that Kelvin's up for the host of
(37:33):
that is a the actor Steve Little who was in
east Bound and Down.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Yeah, yeah, no, I know who that is.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Yeah, And he hasn't shown up in Gemstones yet. I'm like,
he's like, a he's a a what's his name Danny
McBride guy, And he has not shown up in Jimstones yet.
But he's playing the character like I can't remember the
character's name from from The Hunger Games, but like Stanley Tucci's.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Character, Oh gotcha.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
He's kind of playing it like that. And I cannot
wait to see him because like he has a like
a very certain way of performing that really only works
in Danny McBride work, Yes, but God, like I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
To s he's freaking hilarious and down Fix.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Uh, I can't wait. I wish I could do I
wish I could remember what he actually they ain't gonna
say nothing about them fixed and uh, oh god, I
can't wait. Once again. Skylar Gazando not really a big
part of the show still though they were doing some
(38:46):
uh like talking head stuff recently, and Edie Patterson was like,
they did like the variety stuff and the deadline stuff,
the social media thingies. H And at one point she
just like some of the questions were coming in from
fans and like they a lot of them were about
(39:07):
Scalletar Gazando. And she's like, we get it. He's hot.
Why doesn't he just whenever we see him at the
at Craft services, why doesn't he just take his shirt off.
It'd be so easy, it.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
Just be so.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
We get it. He's hot, he's lovable, he's charming. We
get it. Were the stars of the show. That's great.
I love you know my feelings about Scoletar Gazanda. Yeah,
but I get it. Take your shirt off? So, I mean,
(39:45):
I love Gemstones. Mythic Quests ended its fourth season, possibly
final season. Possibly they left it open. They left it open.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
I thought I had heard that Apple had renewed it
for a fifth and final season.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
You'll have to check that one, but I'd love to
have it back. I love where Poppy and Iron ended
up at the end of the season, where it looked
like they were gonna go different ways, but they they
realized they love each other, but not in a sexual way,
but they I think Iron is going to raise Poppy's baby, Yes,
(40:24):
I think so. I think They're gonna be like a couple,
but just not like a sexual couple. And then at
the end of season five, they will become like a
like they were real It'll just become a natural thing
for them. Even though they are so wrong for each other,
but they are very much right for each other. I
love Poppy. Poppy is still my favorite.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
No, Poppy's amazing, you know. I mean they do have
the spinoff side Quest came, you know. It started I
think last week or maybe it was.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Yeah, I think last week. You can oh four?
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Really they released four episodes on March twenty six, and
maybe that's the direction they go in now.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
I did a cursory Google search and did not find it.
I swear I heard something about it, but you know,
if if they don't renew it, so be it. We
got four really good seasons of television out of it.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Also, the episode that we got with Charlie Day was
actually I think we got two two. Yeah, the episode
with him and he gives that speech to Poodie Shoe
at the very end. I'm like, I don't know if
we mentioned that already, but holy crap, was That's just
such a great acting scene by Charlie Day. Charlie's got chops, man,
(41:47):
I know, I know, I know, but he doesn't display
them very much.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
No, Well, that's usually because you know, he's killing he's
killing rats.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
I think I think he's so successful now with also
producing and everything that he's like, I don't really need
to flex my chops anymore. I can play Charlie Kelly
once every year and a half and I'm good he's
living the life.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Good for him, yeah, I mean good for the whole
Sonny crew, by the way, like.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
All who would have thought? Who would have thought they'd
become these.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
I mean, what like eighteen seasons later.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Except for Glenn's not like a mogul. Mogul, but I'm
sure he's still part of the producing team.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Oh, oh absolutely, but Rob is obviously everywhere.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Yeah, Rob Is has to be coming up on like
maybe half a billionaire. Maybe that has to be uh,
I mean with all of his investments.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
Yeah, he invests in a ton of stuff. He's on
TV everywhere.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
Yeah, he's usually Sonny, So if they're clipped, it's not
usually him, it's usually just Ryan Ryan real. But also
which leads to him having some AMMO just to say,
seems like a guy is missing here exactly.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
But yeah, the whole cast is fantastic, not least of
which being mister DeVito. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
I mean he's also just a monster producer as well.
And then Kaitlin Olsen is all over TV like she
has like one of the highest prices asking prices in
TV right now. She she didn't have to do the
high potential, she didn't want to do it, but she's like, well,
if you guys like I don't, Like, they were gonna
shoot it in like New York and New Jersey and
she's like, if you moved to California, I might do it.
(43:40):
And they moved it to California and she's like, I
still might do it, And then they wrote like basically
gave her check. Yeah, they gave her creative freedom and
it was like, here's a lot of money for creative freedom.
And she's like, all right, I mean, but I don't
want my schedule to be too crazy.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
They're like, fine, also incredibly hilarious and brilliant.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
It's pretty effortless. Yeah, how about we just finish off
our Apple TV round up? Because Apple TV's my God,
It's what I'm watching the most right now.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
I have found that the quality of programming on Apple TV.
UH is what I felt like HBO was effort or
the better part of you know, Two Deck Lives.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yeah, yeah, but the studio, I mean both episodes. I
will say, I'm just gonna skip to episode two, the Oneer,
the most one of the most impressive episodes of television
I've ever watched in my entire life. It felt like
Shiva Baby shaved down to twenty three minutes, and it's
one of the best, one of the best episodes of
(44:51):
television I've ever watched. It's up there with like The
The Last of Us, the episode with UH with Nick Offerman,
It's up there. But because it's about a subject matter
that I truly love. That's why it's it's probably my
number one, because I do love movies and I would
absolutely be the same time in the studio ahead that
Seth Rogan is. But I did just rewatch the first
(45:15):
episode just before we started recording. It is also just
one of the best pilots I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
No, I was getting ready to say that, like the promotion,
the pilot of this show, minute by minute, may be
one of the best pilots I've ever watched in my life.
Brian Cranston is amazing in what little screen time he
has because he's Brian freaking Cranston. Seth. Of course he's
(45:49):
doing I'm negotiating, I'm negotiating the rights to kool Aid.
But the fact that they talked Martin Porsese into being
in the show one of the whether you like his
movies or that one of the most influential directors and
creators in media of all time.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Honestly one of my favorite shot scenes.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
The fact that his pitch is for a Jonestown Massacre
film and he and Seth spins it into a movie
about kool Aid is amazing.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
It really was. It was the because I like, I've
felt it because as soon as he said Jonestown I
was just like, wait, how did jonestown man? Oh? This
is perfect television? Yes, uh, because the setup of that
(46:51):
because like Brian Cranston is the setup of that joke. Oh,
and the the person who puts the body to that
joke is Martin Scorsese. And the person who finds the
the the the link, no, the button, the tag, the
(47:13):
tag is seth rogen. It's a three part joke that
turns into something like truly awful because it's hilarious. Hilarious
because it's awful. Yes. The fact that it was going
to be Martin Scorsese like also the fact that he's
like what how he like fabricates it to become the
(47:39):
kool Aid movie. He's like, I would have never thought
to call it that. I'm gonna take credit for it,
but just I have one stipulation. We got to call
it Koolid. It's what ends up becoming like the scene
with Cranston as the follow up, Yes, make realizing oh,
I need to play clean up here, Yes, and says
(48:04):
I had to buy it to kill it, to kill it,
and then we get the finalization of presenting to Martin
SCORSESEI that they had to kill it, that he had
to buy it to kill it. It is like that,
that's the story. That's a perfect storyline for someone like
me who loves movies and like it understands. Unfortunately, the
(48:25):
the everything that goes into obviously not everything what I've
been shown, but it was such a perfect storyline. Ike
Barenholt's great, Katherine Hahn great, not yet I was used
to her full potential yet.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
I was getting ready to say how great Ike and
Catherine were in that that first episode.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Especially both Catherines, both Catherines when he goes to Catherine
O'Hara's place and has to hire her back, but when
they're finally having that final conversation, it's just slow pushing.
The both episodes have been shot so beautifully. It's like
it's like I need the cinematographers are.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
The cinematography for a show like this is kind of
unheard of.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
I don't Shogan felt this way too.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
I mean a show like this though, like this is
a a a show about making movies, and it has
such a cinema quality, you.
Speaker 2 (49:27):
Know, stile to it, style to it.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Yes, which is something that you can say about a
lot of Apple TV's products.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
To be honest, with you, but that slow pushing and
it's just it's its own wonner. It's literally like seven
or like five minutes, and it's just those two people
having a conversation about the industry. Uh. And it's great,
I mean, because I mean, we all know Seth can act,
but he doesn't really have I mean, he actually does
(49:59):
have a resume, but most people think of some of
the like his.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
As the funny guy from Knocked Up.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
But he is just one of the most He's a talented,
talented actor if he like he's already he's done like
one Oscar Bait movie and that was Jobs where he
played Osney act But and then maybe I guess fifty
to fifty if you want to call it that, but
you don't have to. I am. I love Seth Rogan
(50:26):
as an actor. He's just one of my favorites. Like
I don't know, but the whole scene with Catherine o'harow
is great. We haven't gotten enough with Catherine Hahn, but
she did shine in that scene where they talked about
we've been talking about this guy for an hour. We
don't know how to say his last name.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
We don't know he say his last name.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
Dammit. Yes, how about that.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
Paul Dano cameo at the beginning of episode.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
One, Why for me, Baby? I sent that. I texted
that to you, like like I hadn't gotten two minutes
into the show and I was already texting you about
the show. I I need that to become part of
my lexicon. Is just die for me, baby. If I
ever meet Paul Dano, that will be the line that
(51:13):
I will ruin for him forever. And I love Paul
Dano and so many things.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
My favorite My favorite part about that scene though, is
him and the director talking about what the next take's
gonna be, Like.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Yeah, yeah, Peter Berg, it was great. How Oh I
just now noticed somebody is it?
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (51:40):
I can't wait to see her. I've only seen her
in just one thing. She was in Mike and Dave
Need Wedding Dates. But and she played Mike and Dave's sister.
But her name is sugar Lynn, sugar Lynn Beard. I
just looked at the castle as she's in it. But
so is Dave Franco as well.
Speaker 1 (51:56):
So yeah, Dave Franco.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Is Dave Franco being in its ranko brother. Yeah, we've
already gotten Greta Lee. How great was Greta Lee in
that episode and Sarah Polly, Sarah Paully and that like
in that Wonder episode. I could talk about this show
for an hour. Oh absolutely, I can already tell it's
(52:17):
gonna be one of my favorites of all time. H
I love the show. I wrote some things down. Let
me see what I did write down? Die from me?
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Baby.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Perverts make good movies. They really do. Crumb Holts. Oh,
they're finally Jews in Hollywood. They are about a million
of us. And he pitches, he pitches the kool Aid movie.
He's like, what about Wes Anderson. You think I'm going
(52:52):
to pitch kool Aid to Wes Anderson? What about Gillermo
del Toro? He's an Oscar winner? And then is so good? Uh? Yeah,
I wrote down calling the movie kool Aid is so funny.
The revelation.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
Uh, but the the PA that's like, you know some
people think that they used flavor aid.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
Yeah, how would you fuck the kool aid many?
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Uh it's not the point, uh a Nick Stohler's treatment.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
It wasn't actually bad. It was just it was nothing.
It was like the emoji move, not the emotion. What's
a movie with nothing but product placement. That's not right
a player one.
Speaker 1 (53:36):
I mean it's kind of like Sausage Party, to be
honest with you, was sausage Party? I mean it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
Sausage Party was just I think they're all generic.
Speaker 1 (53:44):
They were, but it's very much you know that kind
of feel.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Brian Cranson saying to Dwayne Perkins, we got your brother
whenever they were talking about the coolie, we got your
sister to the to his assistant, Oh so fun. I've
only ever seen her, I think in just one thing
where the is my green drink? Yeah? Do you want
to drink? Drink? Yeah, I'll take one, right after he
(54:09):
said that he didn't want one. Yeah, I can't wait
for Wednesday. Wednesday technically tomorrow. By the time you're hearing this,
uh but no.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
The the the list of cameos and short guest stars
that play themselves so far has been really good. You know,
we got Ron Howard, we got ice Cube, Johnny Knoxville, the.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Whenever like she she just says something to do with
She's still a great actor. H Adam Scott is there.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
Anthony Starr as the Golden Gold Globes presenter.
Speaker 2 (54:52):
I can't wait, I can't wait for this show.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Yeah, at least did invite Seth to her party?
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yeah. Got and the fact that those two been love
interests in a movie too. The Long Shot is not
a bad movie either, if you loved it, If you
like rom comms and just a little bit more funny,
watch The Long Shot. It's funny. Charlie's gets to show
her her comedy chops too, so she's more than just furiosa.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
Yeah, I'm just looking that woman from Monster.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
Yeah. Can I think I am.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
Very much looking forward to the next seven episodes that
we get of this, and if all we get is
a season, I guarantee you it's gonna be brilliant.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Also, the credits they go straight like sixties, like old cinema. God,
I love this movie. If there was a way to
work on this show in any way, I I would
kill a person, not really to do it, seriously killed.
I'd killed twenty five innies.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
Okay, there you go, I killed two out?
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Is this my gems story? Yes, I'd never get on
this the studio all right.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
Also, let's let you've already talked about it. But how
great is it just to see Catherine O'Hara on on screen,
and yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
I mean she's I feel like we've seen a lot
of her, I mean recently.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Which is obvious.
Speaker 2 (56:26):
I'm considering doing a ship's creak rewatch.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
It's so good and Catherine o'harah may be the best
part of it, which is saying something because Dan and
Eugene are both see.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
I really I love Dan in the show.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
I love Dan, but Catherine, Catherine is is worth the
price of admission.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
You know who actually I do probably actually love the
most is I can't think of her name, the actor's name.
Emily Hampshire played Stevie m because she's like the normal person,
reacting like she's like the only normal person in the town.
So I always loved her. I always loved that, just
that one perspective. But I always loved Annie. Annie as
(57:09):
Alexis is very funny. But my favorite character actually from
the entire show was Joscelyn. Just I enjoy that just
like what uh just kind of confused character, but just
like a happy, go lucky, really nice character. She's just
(57:29):
a nice character. And I just I always loved Jocelyn.
She was my favorite.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
I'm always a Chris Eliot fan as well.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
I love Chris Elliot, and he got to be his
like creepy, disgusting self, but it was a little bit
more toned down. On Ship's Creek. We got the perfect
level of Chris Elliot because we know what he can do.
He we know he could be super disgusting, but he
never got full fledged Chris Elliot in that show.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
So I also do love that every single episode of
the at least this season of the Studio is going
to be directed by or has been directed by Seth
and Evan. Okay, they directed the whole season.
Speaker 2 (58:14):
Evan had had to have done the Winner right, had to.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Yeah, there's no way.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Seth is so involved in that that I thought it
was split up. I thought it was because I thought
I saw one cut. But whenever they had the conversation
like we wouldn't do that, like we don't stitch, I
was like, did they do the entire episode as a
winner or did they stitch? Because because of the reason.
(58:42):
But I believe it's been revealed that there were four stitches,
so gotcha. Still, regardless, that is a.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
What like a thirty five to forty minute show episode.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Twenty five minutes? It was probably twenty two. Yeah, because
Apple credits are usually about three to four minutes long.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
Yeah, I mean, still, that's rather impressive.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
Yeah, it was. I loved it because I also knew
the car had to have been fake. I think the
car leaving was real, but I think the car coming
up was fake. Yeah, at least to a point. But
I it was such a great one of the best
episodes of television I've ever watched.
Speaker 1 (59:21):
Watch the studio everyone, it is brilliance.
Speaker 2 (59:26):
Yeah, it'll be one of the best shows you watch.
Speaker 1 (59:30):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Nick Ketchup Media got the rights to Coyote versus ACME.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
They did.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
Hey, I mean we went from a show about the
studio to finally a studio giving us what we want.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
Yes, I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
I feel like that's a good price tag, and I
imagine distribution will cost them probably around that same amount.
But as long as we go see.
Speaker 1 (59:59):
It, yeah, exactly. And that's the thing, like, go see it.
It's it's going to come out, So we have to
see it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Yes, to prove that you be wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
You know, it was fifty million dollars if if Drew
is correct, you know, it cost him another fifty to
distribute and promote. You know, it takes one hundred million
dollars worldwide box office to make up that anything over
that's gravy.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
At this point. Yeah, because they probably don't have to
go into to fix anything. No, I think it's leading project.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Yeah, I guarantee you they're just going to release it there,
they'll slap their logo at the front and call it
a day.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Can't wait. I can't wait to see it. Well will
for forte leading a movie, a slapstick movie involving Looney
Tunes and John Cena is in it too.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Yeah, with specifically Wiley Coyote as as as the main.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Yeah, I can't wait for it. Go see it please everybody.
But I'm I'm very like that guy who stood outside
the studio in a Wiley Cody costume. He gets to yes, this.
Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
Morning, he gets to go to sleep now.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Yeah, thank you for your service. I'm not going to
give you as the full staff of Nicole Nicole Kidman,
but you absolutely absolutely you.
Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
Get a you get a half salute.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
Yeah, Nicole Kidman is the only one who gets that solution.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
She's the only one that gets that, right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Captain, my captain, I don't I don't really have anything
really else. Uh, nick I did say, I want you
to think about five comedians, six comedians.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Six comedians.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Paulauser has a tattoo on it. I believe his right arm. Sorry,
I had pulled up and it says, come on, Short
and Stern and Farley and Varney and Carrie and Williams.
Who is short Martin? Who is Stern?
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Howard?
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
Really?
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Yeah, we talked about him last week. Shit. What if
he was the voice of an entire show, never once
appearing in the show.
Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
I mean that would be Ron Howard.
Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
No, no, I believe he showed up. No, no, no, no,
the his his producing partner did. What if he directed
a movie that he also starred in partially? What what
if he's in one of the biggest Christmas franchises of
all time that only has two movies Marv Daniel Stern. Yeah,
(01:03:15):
it's Short and Stern. It's for Daniel Stern.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Martin, Daniel Stern, Chris Farley, Jim Varney, Jim Varney and
Jim Carrey and Robin Williams.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Yeah. Now, obviously you have plenty of tattoos. I don't
have as many. But if I were to get my own,
or you were to get your own, Okay, who would
you put.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Uh, Carlin would be on there.
Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Remember you have six.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
I know Carlin would be on there, Chappelle would be
on there, Farley would be on there, Sandler would be
(01:04:04):
on there, Murphy would be on there.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Is that six?
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
No, I got one more? You had Sandler, Murphy, Sandler, Murphy, Farley, Carlin.
Speaker 4 (01:04:35):
Who did I say after Carlin? This one's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Yeah, I'm just revising mine because I forgot to write
it down.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
I don't get that. And then Martin, Steve Martin.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
Doesn't even have to be male.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
No, no, no, those are just those are just the
ones that that stick out to me as people that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Oh and by the way, there's always Michael Keaton.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Michael Keaton. Uh, those are just there.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
Was why I wore this shirt today because I was like,
maybe Michael Keaton.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
Those are comics specifically.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Comics, Okay. I wasn't going comics.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
That was going just comics, okay, because I thought that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Was I was just going to anybody comedy because I
mean Robin Robin Williams, I guess he was, but oh
he was a.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Huge stand up.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Stand up.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Jim Varney was not, though, and neither was Farley.
Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Yeah, they were sketch comedians. Martin Sure, I don't think
you ever did stand up either. I think he was
always sketch, you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
Know, he was always sketch. You're right, Daniel Stern, I
don't think was ever stand.
Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
Up, so you're right, but he probably did.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
The the comedic minds that shaped my worldview are the
ones that I gave you, Okay, but there's there's lots
of crossover there if you think about it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Like.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
You know, obviously Farley Sandler, their SNL guys, they were
in movies as well that like Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore.
You know, those were movies that truly shaped you, shaped
my comedic mine. I think norm or Conan would would
(01:06:42):
be there.
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
I'm gonna cheave, I'm gonna put seven. I'm gonna put seven,
and you can put seven if you want to, because
I couldn't take one of these people off because I
was like, man, do I take this person? Do I
take any of these people? I'm gonna go all right,
Conan would have to be number one because he's like
I wanted to go like in level of like when
they influenced me. Sure, which I could, but actually, you
(01:07:09):
know what, let's do that Morana's Candy.
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
You mean Rookie of the Year's John Candy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Same guy? Uh, Mirani's candy Keenan Thompson. Thompson. Thompson would
be number three because he got to meet before Conan.
So Conan, thank you good? Actually all that actually I
have to switch out to go moranis Candy Sandler. I
(01:07:35):
was like, do I take off this last person for Sandler?
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Or do I take you Sandler for this last person? Uh? Okay?
So miranis Candy Sandler Thompson Conan, uh okay, Yeah, Tina.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Fey a worth it?
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
And then Seth Brogan.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
All great.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
All I could do the same thing, just much smaller.
But I would like Tina fey is Conan and Tina
fe I think my two favorites ever, sure like as
far as like who like, because obviously they've continued to
give me work my entire life. Miranda's and Candy are
(01:08:26):
just like we only have so much of them. And
Miranda is just because like, when I watch him, I'm happy,
except for in Parenthood because he's a dick actually, but
Miranda's is just like he's the first like actor. I
think I glommed onto when I was a kid. And
then I watched since sounds so stupid, I watched whol
(01:08:48):
Runnings so much that John Candy just became my like
my vessel. And then because then I started, like my
parents started showing me more and more John Candy stuff.
But I the movie that I returned to the most,
it was Cool Runnings because it is a perfect movie.
I love that movie.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Oh, I love Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings is so brilliant.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
It's one of the movies I watched the most growing up.
Speaker 1 (01:09:14):
What put me? What put I should say? John Candy
on the map for MEA who? Speaking of that, I
think I gotta put Brooks on mine.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
I mean he's you wouldn't be a bad person.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
I think I gotta put Brooks on mine. No, the
things that got me started like I saw Stripes at
a very young age. I saw Lampoon's Vacation at a
very young age.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
Sorry, folks, closed to you.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
Yeah, Uh, Summer Rental, Uh, Armed and Dangerous, Little Shop
of Horror, Spaseball Playing, Trains and Automobiles, The Great Outdoors? Uh,
Uncle Buck, and Who's Harry Crumb? These are all movies
that I grew up with. I almost forgot home alone,
Rookie of the Year, Rookie of the Year, but no
(01:10:10):
Gus Polenski, the Polka King of the Midwest. Yeah, they're
very big in Sheboygan.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Twenty two copies there in Chicago, chaboyanboy.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Very big in Sheboygan. You know, John Candy was in
my life, I think very I.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
Think he had the perfect delivery. I think he's just
like the man with the most confidence ever who gave
just a very sincere delivery.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Which is why he is so brilliant in planes, trains
and automobiles.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Agreed. But the scene that I always think ell.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Is the perfect encapsulation of who I truly believe John
Candy was, at his heart a guy who shows confidence,
but on the inside he's hurting.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, But you know what's like, it's not
even the I like me, my wife.
Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
Likes me, my wife likes me.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Yeah, it's not even that scene that I think of
when I think of plane strains. It's the driving down
the wrong way, because it's the it's the funniest thirty
seconds in movie history. Is just where like each step
of it, which ends up with them with John Candy
(01:11:29):
having bent the steering wheels at a ninety degree angle
when Steve Martin's hands are dug into the dashboard. Yes,
but everything that happened like because we get the quick
change like quick shots, and then yeah, we get the skeletons,
and then we get we get John Candy as the Devil.
Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
H it's John Candy is the Devil. Maybe the best
one shots.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
I think it's my I think it's my profile picture
on Blue Sky. I love it because I I, for
some reason, on my letterbox account, my my profile picture
is the football ducks from Howard the Duck. Oh yes,
for some I don't know why, but they're the football
ducks from Howard the Duck is my god profile picture
(01:12:16):
on letters.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
But yeah, like John Knt is just so great and
he deserves to be on your arm if you were
to ever get a tattoo of that. The reason I
picked Eddie.
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Was Murphy is fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
Was It's a multitude of reasons, but the big reasons
are he single handedly saved us and l in the
early eighties, Beverly Hills Cops, Beverly Hill Cop one and two.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Yeah, the coming to America.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
Coming to America, Yes, and the fact that his stand
up it truly developed a whole new style of stand up.
Like you don't get Dave Chappelle without Eddie Murphy.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
As comedians without no no.
Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
I don't. But like as talented as Dave is, I
don't think he translates if we don't first have Eddie.
Speaker 5 (01:13:14):
Yeah, Eddie's just one of the Like he's arguably, like
in recorded history, probably the earliest funniest person to live,
uh and and recorded and like in video for.
Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
Because when there were there were people who had before
him were the funniest people. Eddie was a different level.
He like he knows a rock star. Yeah, nobody was, Like, honestly,
not a ton of people have ever been people have
reached his level of comedy before, Like not like I'm
talking not his level of fame, but the level of
(01:13:57):
skill and ability and and and brightness to the joke,
like how smart a joke can be. He was just
natural at it. Yes, other people have achieved his level
of comedy, but not to like the scale the degree.
He is one of the funniest people to exist. Uh.
(01:14:19):
And we're just lucky that we live in a time
where we were there. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
Absolutely, And the reason I chose Harlan is more than
just his comedy, his social discourse, the discourse that's rounded
Carlin has morphed and becomes something much bigger than it was.
And like nobody thinks about now, really what kind of
(01:14:46):
counter culture Harland developed. And I think his style of
social satire.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Calling Quinn without without him.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
So important to today, Like in twenty twenty five, George
Carlin' stuff from the sixties is still relevant very much.
And as for you know, melt Brooks, if we're adding
him on, I mean, the guy has some of the
funniest movies of all time and it's just blazing Saddles
(01:15:20):
may literally be the funniest movie of all time.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
It's there, And I do love space It's the first
one that I watched, so I'm gonna go Spaceballs.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
But young Frankenstein is brilliant. I mean, thank God for
Gene Wilder as well. I mean, you can put him
on the list, but.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
I love that. I haven't watched that movie. I'm gonna
watch that this year. I have. I'm gonna wait until later,
but I try to do my best putting on the
rigs my Frankenstein's Monster.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Oh such a good movie.
Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
But no, I know, Oh, there's a Chappelle crossover there
because he he loves those. Peter Boyle and Dave Chapelle
were good friends, good friends. I love that. I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
No. Comedy is such a subjective thing. Like everybody finds
joy in a certain type of comedy. You know, for
everybody out there that loves a Steve Martin and he's
kind of style.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Yeah, if I could add another person, it would on
the same line. It would be Martin short, Martin short,
h Martin Commas short, like yes, slash short, so you
have short, yeah, but Martin definitely Steve Martin, but like
Steve Martin.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
Yeah, there you go. But no, you know, for everybody
out there that loves Steve Martin, there's somebody out there
that loves what's the ventriloquis.
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Guy, Jeff done him?
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Jeff done him. You know, not my cup of tea,
But somebody, somebody got the comedy because of that. Yeah,
you know, it's such a It's like I said, it's
such a subjective art form.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
I listened to an interview and with him pretty early
Pandemic with Mark Mahern, and you know what, like I
respect his grind because he worked on for long like
and I think he understood his audience, I think better
than anybody else realizes. Oh yeah, well not like I
(01:17:28):
of course. I think we all had our own turns
with liking a little bit of Jeff Dunham.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
Oh sure, sure, like I said, just not at this
point in my life. Not my cup of tea. But
he has funny things, and he brought people to comedy
like there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Blue collar comedy Tour also had its own place. I mean,
I was a big billying Ball guy. I was like,
why ended up liking Ron White, But I was there
for billing My family grew up on billying Ball CDs.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
Oh yeah, my family grew up on Jeff Foxworthy CDs.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
So like we didn't like I didn't really love Foxworthy,
like we did watch a show, but we like the
you might be a Rednick wasn't really us, but man,
we like I'm a dorkfish billing Ball was such like
he was a force in our house. Yeah, you asked
me who the biggest comedian in the world. I want
(01:18:24):
to say, in like two thousand and two, I would
have said bill Ing, Not two thousand and two, Like
nineteen ninety nine, I would have said billing ball to me.
At least in our house played it. It was on repeat.
Speaker 1 (01:18:40):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Oh hey, nick, I did want to say I saw
snow White last night, okay or two nights ago. I
liked it. It is a musical. If you don't like musicals,
I get why you would not like this movie. This
movie moves at the pace of musical. It's literally it's
(01:19:02):
every scene is paced by it being a musical. It's
a good musical. If you don't like musicals, I'm sorry,
watch the movie if you like musicals, because like, Rachel
Ziggler is incredible. Who gives a shit about Gal Gadot?
She like her songs? She has two I hate to
(01:19:22):
say it. They're better than Michelle Yoh's and Wicked. She's
not good. I'm not giving her that much credit. But
they played like they wrote songs that she could sing
feasibly sing. They're not great, but they're not bad. Rachel
Ziggler is great. The Dwarves. I however you feel about
(01:19:43):
the Dwarves if you wanted them to be live action,
I understand if you wanted them to not even be
in there because you're you don't like the entire idea
of Dwarves. I understand it, but it is a fairy
tale that I've known about my entire life, and it's
been around fifty years at least before I was born.
It is a fairy tale. And this was a one
(01:20:06):
of the better Disney live action remakes. It was actually
really good. I gave it four stars. Rachel Zigler is perfect.
The CG Dwarves, they nailed them. Dopey who they in
(01:20:31):
the first scene. Whenever we get the the dwarves, they
withhold him for like the first two minutes, like he's
you see him, he's in the background. They withhold him
until they finally reveal him. They nailed him. They nailed him.
They killed it. They This movie is going to find
in its audience it's all gonna be little girls. But
(01:20:51):
you know what, people who actually like musical theater. It's
not a bad movie. It's not great, but you know
who who's gonna be what parents are gonna have to
get used to here soon in the next year or
two when this comes to Disney. Plus, you're gonna be
watching a lot of snow white and you know what,
You're gonna be appreciative because you have Rachel Ziegler singing
(01:21:13):
to You some two really great remakes of the songs
like Whistle Why You Work is really good. It's a
very sweet and comfortable movie. I'm probably not gonna rewatch it,
like maybe once or twice ever in my life again,
but I would and I wouldn't be mad because Rachel
(01:21:34):
zigglers in this movie. And however you feel about her,
however you feel about Gal Gott, I understand about Ga
go Dot. I sympathize with you if you don't like Rachel.
My sister doesn't like Rachel Zigeler. She didn't, but she
was convinced that she didn't like her because a couple
of years ago, when West Side Story was nominated for
the Oscar, she was not invited because it was also
(01:21:57):
during COVID, so invites limited. Everybody like tabloids made out
the fact that she became like a little baby, saying
that she was not invited to the Oscars. But no,
I looked it up. I actually found my sources. On
an interview on a carpet, she was asked, what are
you wearing to the Oscars, and she said, I didn't
get an invite, but hopefully things change, and that was it.
(01:22:18):
And then she made a comment on Instagram on somebody
else's post about her not like being an injustice. She said,
it's fine, it's just how things shake up. Hopefully things change.
That's all she kept saying was hopefully, thanks change. So
my sister was mad at her forever for that. She
still doesn't really like her because she just has that
in her read And that's fine. But my god, this
(01:22:44):
is just the first part of her career that we're
going to get exactly. This girl is going to be
incredible for a long time, if you guys don't ruin
it for us. Yep, I can't wait for the whenever
she finally gets to a point where she doesn't have
to do musicals or singing part some movies anymore. I'll
be happy. But I am going to enjoy the parts
where she sings, because that girl is a natural. If
(01:23:10):
people let her, she will be the biggest actor in
the world.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
I loved her in The West Side Story. I thought
she was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
I still think Emistone's my favorite actor, and followed by
Margot Robbie, and then there are a couple other people
like Tomorrow Weaving for Rachel Ziggler's in my top ten already,
and she's been I've seen her in four movies, yeah,
three or four movies. She's incredible. I can't wait for
the rest of her career. Nick, I love you. We've
been going on. Where Can They Find You?
Speaker 1 (01:23:41):
You can find me over on Twitter at Superman's Underscore Papa.
You can find the show on Twitter at was underscore
of the podcast, Drew. Where can they find you?
Speaker 4 (01:23:50):
Sir?
Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
You can find me on Twitter and Instagram, at andrelz com.
You can find me on letterbox and TikTok a just
andrelle z. Nick I also forgot to ask, did you
have anything else you wanted to bring? I just abruptly just.
Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
No, no, no, no, We're good, but we'll save something
for next week.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
You can if you could please follow, like, share, subscribe
if you like anybody who likes movies. Hey, we start
the show immediately talking about Severance. If people like Severance,
maybe send them our podcast, Like they don't even have
to listen to the whole thing. If I want to
hear what they think about our talk on severance, because like,
we went a little medical, we went theory, and we
(01:24:31):
broke down. So I want to know what you think,
and I want to know other people think about it,
because I feel like we dedicated like the first seven
minutes to severance.
Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
If they thereabouts, yeah, if not more.
Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Let us know. You can find us on all those platforms.
What's getting I'm Andrew lz Calm on a lot of places,
or just Andrew lz. Elsie stands for my last name.
It was a nickname from a dad, so that's it's
just kind of an honor thing for him. That's why
I use it, and just because it's the only thing
I can do. But yeah, and it also kind of
sets me apart. I've I've had different views on my
(01:25:08):
last name. I've liked it, I've hated it, I've liked it.
Right now, I don't hate it. But I also just
really like l Z because, like I said, it's just
like it's a little tribute thing to my dad. It's
like a little piece of him is part of this
because he got me part in the movies and everything
I'm into for the most part, except for like sci
fi stuff. He wasn't related to that. But Nick, I
(01:25:30):
love you.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Love you to my friend, can't wait to see you again.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
Top more movies. Yeah,
