Speaker 1 (00:19):
Welcome back to Once the podcast exclusively for people who
understand that looks like we're going to need a bigger boat.
We're your host is always.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I'm Nick, I'm and and Nick. That was I got
that one.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
We did it, Miss accomplished.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
All right, let's go home and Nick, how are you? Man? Dude?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
I am living on this incredible high that will not stop.
And I gotta tell you my entire TikTok all it
is is Superman hope core, and I'm here for it.
My life has been inexplicably better.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Since the day I was Superman.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, post Superman. There is pre Superman and post Superman,
and we are in a post Superman time right now.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
My timeline hasn't been like completely Superman. I've gotten some
the my probably the favorite thing that I got recently
I did send to you was the DC writers medium
Corns went on on set and him showing the respect
to them as well. So cool. But I saw a
(01:35):
video of cornswe I believe in high school. It had
to be in high school with his best friend and
they just made YouTube videos and it's just very clear
that he just enjoys acting and he just.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Sent joys not only acting, but like it seems like
just being a good person.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I hope, so I continue to hope. So yeah, like
that's that's what I want the most, at least for
because he has been given the keys to the kingdom.
He's he is this universe is Tony Stark. He he yep.
All the way is unfortunately on his shoulders, and he's
(02:19):
gonna have to bear it.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
It looks like he can. It looks like he can
handle it.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I hope. So I hope for like his mental health
as well. I hope he's also able to go off
and make some other other movie as well, because I
want to see what he can do. I the only
thing I recognize him from is Pearl. Yeah, I believe
I saw him in maybe one other thing, but jack Quade.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Just the only thing. Yeah, Pearl's the only thing I
can remember personally.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Jack Quaide posted a video photo like congratulating him and
saying congrats signed anime Superman. Yes, Ani Superman.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
I would love to see those two eyes in a
film together.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Well apparently they did, like he posted an image of
those two in something together.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Oh, I'll have to check that out. I'll need to
dig deep.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Then, So and then also he while he was on press,
he talked about the show Hollywood, which also just passed me.
I believe it came out in twenty twenty. It has
some marraw weaving. It's on Netflix. Why didn't I watch that? Also,
he's just like scarily skinny in that show apparent Like
I've seen images and compared to what he is now,
(03:32):
it is a he looks healthier. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Well, in Chord Sweat is just like a straight up nerd,
like not the same way that Cavell is. Cavel is
a like a building PCs and we talked about this
a couple of last I think yeah last week. Uh,
Cavell's like a role playing like a tabletop role playing
game nerd, a computer building nerdn. Chord Sweat loves stuff
(03:55):
like Star Wars and like knows all the cannon of
the like expanded Universe and so yeah, so like his Yeah, his.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Dream job is to be an X Wing fighter and all,
and he's like it'd be the easiest paycheck in the world.
All I'm just doing is here, he said.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
He was asked if he wanted to be a Jedi
Knight or Superman again, and he said, I'm going to
pick Jedi Knight because I've already congrats, I've already contracted
a sequel.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, it's all about money. And then he did I
hate saying the Johnny Manziel, but I'm going to go
to Johnny Manzil. This is the reference I'm going to
go with.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
But yeah, So I'm living in my best timeline right now.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
What about you?
Speaker 1 (04:41):
How are you doing?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I'm good. I there are a couple of nights where
I could have gone. I haven't seen a movie since
July thirteenth, which is nine days from now.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
It's a lot of time for you.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I had been working on on a movie with Anne
Hathway in Jake Jonhaw. I cannot it's I can't remember
which movie it is. She hash an ill. It's early
two thousands. It's like viagra. They'ree he's selling viagra and
(05:15):
interest loving other drugs. Maybe it's one of the multiple
movies that came out around that same time, like there
was one with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher and uh yeah,
but I've been in the middle of watching that, but
I just didn't finish it yet. And then also I've
just been like flaking on AMC A list tickets because
(05:39):
like every once in a while, like I felt like
maybe I'd go see Superman, but I didn't. And then
the worst thing was yesterday for the AMC screen un scene,
Like there had been like buzz that the July twenty
first AMC screen mon scene was going to be Together.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Would have been so cool.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
And that's my most anticipated movie this entire year. I
can't tell you why. I love Dave Franco, I love
Alison Bree, I love body horror, I love horror in general.
And they've been doing a lot of press as well,
and recently Dave was showing Allison scenes from his favorite
(06:26):
horror movies, and he, of course like the ultimate reference
for the movie together. Right now, I'm thinking is the
movie Society, And then you could if you're thinking about
something a little bit more modern, modern, the color out
of space, that kind of body horror is going to
(06:48):
be involved because it feels very it feels very what's
it called Lovecraft end? Because I've seen, like I I
don't watch trailers, but I've been so just tempted with
this movie because it can't come fast enough. I'm seeing
it technically tomorrow, but I've been watching clips for this movie,
(07:12):
and I cannot wait for this movie. But yesterday, yeah,
the AMC Scream Unseen was the Home, which is the
new movie with Pete Davidson, and I do want to
see the movie. And I listened to an episode of
Douglas's Movies yesterday with the director of that movie promoting
(07:34):
said movie, and he's like, we're up against Fantastic four,
so if you guys could please just come out.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Just maybe make it a second watch, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, So I do want to see the movie. But whenever,
like the biggest hype the fact that there were some
screenings of Together like that were not apparently AMC on
July twenty first. There have been some about a week
ago as well, but every like they're trying to get
buzz out for this movie. We were all hoping that
(08:02):
this was going to be the Scream Unseen and it wasn't,
so it was a big let down.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
But I'm not on I think for the first time,
I've watched more.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Movies than you in a calendar week.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
In a calendar week, so yeah, well I'm also I'm
just like, hey, I'm seeing at least three movies this
week because I'm seeing Together tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
I'm seeing Fantastic Four on Thursday, same time as you.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah, we're seeing that at the same time.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Very excited for that movie. I'm hearing good things. I
had to stop watching trailers about a week or two ago.
As soon as they started showing Ben Grimm with a beard.
I had to stop. I was like, that's too much
information for me, because, like, I'm sure Superman was your
first comic that you picked up, right, Oh yeah, mine
(08:59):
was fantastic so like, and I'm not like a giant
Fantastic Four fan, but I do hold like a lot
of memory with them because it was the first thing
I remember of comics, like it was then X Men
and weirdly enough, Black Panther. Yeah. Uh so, I I'm
(09:21):
excited for this movie. What are your thoughts.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Listen, I'm gonna go see it, Like we said, we're
seeing it at the same time on Thursday. I'm taking
the boy with me. It's gonna be good. It's gonna
be good. I mean, it's got an amazing cast. You know,
we're gonna get to see a real Galactis experience on
the big screen. Not there, not a cloud of whatever
(09:49):
it was, so so that's good.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
The clouds scary.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
I listen. I think that the Fantastic Four are incredibly important.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
It gets the articles.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
They are, they are the first Family. It's just their
stories never did anything for me because they they they
very quickly made them very overpowered. And then like in
the late seventies through the eighties and even now in
the aughts, Like the Fantastic Four is kind of this
(10:26):
enigma in the comics where like there's an evil read
that is, you know, trying to in the world at
one point there you know, their son is the single
most powerful preacher in all of Marvel comics, and he
creates the Marvel Universe at one point in like twenty
(10:49):
seventeen or something like that. So like it saying this,
and like Superman is also completely overpowering at various points
in his in his ninety years of existence. But like
it just never resonated with me as much as d
C comics did in general, Like I was always a
(11:09):
DC hid and not a Marvel kid. But with that
being said, I am excited to see, uh what Pedro
Pascal does as re Richard's I could watch him do
just about anything on the big screen and.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
You can about it, right now so many chances in
this he's.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
He's in like three movies that are out right now
in my local.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Fet You want to see a Pedro Pascal movie, Yes,
all right, If you don't, I got you. I got
a Pedro Pascal movie. And if you don't like that
Piscal movie, I got a third.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
I got a Yeah coming out on Thursday. So don't worry.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Well, I've already seen Freaky Tails, he had Materialists, he
had Eddington last week, which I did not go see,
which I should have, which is ari Astor and then Fantastic.
I don't know if he has another movie coming out
this year, but my god, his stylist has to be tired.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Incredibly tired. You know, that's a lot of red carpets
to walk, is all I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I mean he likes to do bold things.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, we talked about this offline before we got onto pod.
But you know, the Rotten Tomatoes scores eighty three percent
right now from critics. Obviously, Drew and I do not
put a whole lot of emphasis on Rotten Tomatoes. We
like the movies that we like, we don't like the
movies that we don't like. There's very few movies that
(12:36):
we don't like is the key to this podcast.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
We're like, we're we like movies.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Podcast eighty three percent is certified fresh. It should be good.
The biggest like piece of the reviews that I'm getting
that are could even be considered mildly negative, or that
it's kind of a boring movie. It's a beautiful movie,
but it's paced oddly, or there's you know this, that
(13:06):
and the other, like this is supposed to be a
movie about a family. Yeah, so like I'm okay with it,
quote unquote being like it should be a character piece.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yes, And the thing is, like, not every Marvel movie
has to be like a Marvel movie. And and like
Thunderbolts had like its moments of action, and I'm sure
Fantastic four is gonna have plenty as well, but Thunderbolts
also had a lot of just sit down talks, a
(13:37):
lot of a lot of around. Yeah, a lot of
people sitting around talking. I don't know if you know this,
but that's the whole point of writing.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Is like movies ride the train, you know, yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
You don't just want like like in in uh in Markers,
this happens and then like it's it's so many page
is between dialogue.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
No, we don't need Sean Peters doing the Fantastic four,
is what I'm saying. It doesn't need to be an
action beat every sixteen minutes.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Yeah, I'm okay with a story.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, you know, oddly enough, I'm kind of Roger Ebert
in that way. I like story.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
You know, what happens a lot in comic books. Story.
There's a lot of images. Yeah, but they're telling you
what's happening, and that's what this like. Hopefully that's what
this is. And Okay, so I am very excited for this.
I'm excited because, Yeah, I'm excited to see Galactis for
the first time and it's Ralph Einsen and A big
(14:41):
fan of him.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
His voice alone, which is what we're getting. Obviously it's
just some of his face. Yeah, maybe maybe they did
some motion cap I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
But I'm excited for that. Of course, Pedro's going to
be charming as well. He's going to have his faults,
because that's what a great Pedro character does. He has
his own little faults. Oh you're you're done, You're out.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
I love that. Vanessa Kirby is who Storm I think
She's a great actress.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Big fan.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
I'm a big fan of Joseph Quinn.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
I have a bone to pick with Joseph Quinn for
just for something he said today that came out today,
and we'll get to it.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Listen, Joseph Quinn can do no wrong for me after
playing Master of Puppets on top of an RV. Okay,
so like he's a okay at my book.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
The Evan mossbackert and and then Julia Gardner excited for
her that it seems like she's gonna be kind of
muted a little bit, but hopefully we get a good
performance something out of it.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Yeah, I'd like to get something out of it. Apparently
Natasha Leoneh and John Malcovich are also in the movie
according to the IMDb, So like, I'm just excited to
see those two people. Yeah. Paul Walter Hauser is also
in it.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Did you see what he showed up to the red
carpet on the blue carpet? On I didn't you do?
Do you know that Paul Walter Hauser is also a
professional wrestler, signed a prof wrestler, Yes, signed to the
Progress brand. Yes? Uh, well, he wore his championship title too.
(16:25):
I believe. I believe he's a tag title champion.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
I absolutely love it.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
And yes, more than likely Oscar future Oscar winner Paul
Walter Hauser. Chances are pretty high. The guy's really good
at acting. Uh. He's very nonchalant about it. Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
He has so much range. He has so much.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Range just and acts like it's nothing.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
He's he's in this, He's in the New Naked Gun movie.
Like he's like, yeah, this is It's the Summer of Houser.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
I'm here for too. I mean he was in Koubra Kai. Yes,
well but he got he got too big for Cobra Kai. Yes,
he's like the only person who got too big for
Cobra Kai. But yeah, I'm excited for this, just like
also the visuals man, it's gonna be like it's like.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
It's gonna be a beautiful movie to watch it, like.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Uh something futuristic sixties. It's like, what's that the term
retro futuristic? Uh sixties and I'm into that that era,
Like everything's round.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
We get to see a flying car man.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Dude, it's practical too. Did have you seen I saw it?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Yeah, it looks super cool.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I follow the scientists on on TikTok and and and YouTube,
and she's like she was like one of like seven
scientists who got invited to the set just to talk
about the possible science of what They're like, No, it's
of course, it's of course it's science fiction, but there
are moments of reality that like if if we get there, yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Yeah, so I know. I I'm gonna go see it.
I'm excited to see it. Obviously, the excitement is not
comparable to my excitement for Superman, which we talked about
for forty five minutes last week. But it should be
a really good movie. And I hope this. I hope
this puts Marvel back on track. Like I really enjoyed
(18:23):
The Thunderbolts. I thought it was very good. I thought
it was much more of a character piece than I
thought it was going to be, which was refreshing. Actually
we got to really dive into a lot of those characters,
you know, except for task Master.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
I was actually a bit upset because I, like, I
like task Master from the from the Spider Man games.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, oh no, it's great.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
So I I that's what I knew. Task Master.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
I really hit the bullet on that one though, you know,
both literally and figuratively.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yeah, oh hey, did we oh go ahead? No, go ahead?
Did we say rest in peace? And Malcolm Jamal Warner
and Ozzy Osbourne.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
We did not, you are correct, we did not. Unfortunately,
at the time of taping over the weekend and into
this week, both Ozzy Osbourne and Malcolm Jamal Warner have
passed away. Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of seventy six,
just a mere couple of weeks after the farewell tour
or the farewell show for Black Sabbath, and Malcolm Jamal
(19:30):
Warner unfortunately died of an accidental drowning in Costa Rica
at the age of fifty four. Two wildly different people,
but both incredibly important to my upbringing. You know, it
was theo Huxtable. I mean, come on, he was great.
(19:50):
He was great.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
He was like obviously for us, he was like our
way into the show, like, yeah, we we related more
to Coo than we did yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Cliff anyone else on the show. So and he's been
acting since like he he had a stable gig on
The Resident before it got got canceled. It a pretty
good medical show. A little over the top, but most
of them are. But Yeah, that that's just sad. Accidental
(20:22):
drowning at the age of fifty four just sucks. And
then Ozzy. Ozzy was seventy six and led a really
hard seventy six years. So I don't think any of
us are surprised at the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, but
just happening so quickly, yeah, like literally, like I said,
two weeks, maybe less than two weeks after that Black
(20:42):
Sabbath finally Ozzie. Ozzie's this weird like creature in my life, Like, yeah,
I remember him growing up. My dad had Black Sabbath vinyls. Yeah,
and like Black Sabbath has some just bangers, you know
(21:04):
that they'd be good wrestling intro music bangers too.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Like Zach Wilde as your guitarist. I mean, you're gonna
do some good things.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
But then, like inexplicably, he was also a reality television.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Star, like one of the first, like one of the.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
First real reality TV stars, and I don't care, Like, yeah,
it was junk TV, but watching Ozzy and his family
argue with each other, it was.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
A fun timesion man, Yeah it.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Was, and it was fun television. It was like I
don't watch reality television. Now because most of it's dog
shit and and I'm not saying that like the Osbourne
Show was a great show, but it was at least fun.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yeah, it was very fun.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
And again we got to get this little sneak peek
into the lives of these famous people, or at least
Ozzy being a famous person. So yeah, it was you know.
He then even later in life, he was in one
of the video games that I played religiously called Brutal
(22:17):
Legend him and Jack Black.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Yeah I remember, yeah, yeah, I see. For me, like
I didn't grow up listen I knew like some of
the songs because obviously, like I just didn't know it
was Black Sabbath growing up because like my family didn't
listen to it. Yeah, but like one of my first
introductions to Ozzy was the movie Little Nicky Oh, I
(22:40):
Love It, Oh, where he ends up being the savior, Yes,
which was fantastic. I thought that was very funny. But
uh and then also the yeah, he's just he's just
been around, like he's been like he.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Bit a head off a bat on stage in Saint
Louis and got arrested with the Saint Louis Blues Jersey
on like that's enough for me.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Yeah, he's like an if so facto like Blues fan,
Like he's like one of their celebrity fans, whether he
has seen a game or not.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Right after he died, the Blues posted a farewell tribute
to him on on on all their socials, and it
was like the first picture was him in his Blues jersey,
in his mug shot.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yeah, and then Malcolm jamal mournered like for me, like, yeah,
you mentioned the resident, but he was also like he
showed up on Community a couple episodes. He was he
was uh not Sharlee rolf Euvent, Nicole Brown's wife, husband,
cheating husband and everything. And then also he was in Detroitter's.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yes, he was in Detroitter's. I had forgotten about that.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Like I think like he's one of the few characters
who showed up I believe twice, like celebrities who showed
up twice. And whenever he's commenting on Tim Robinson's face,
he's like, but your face, your face, that's that's just
the shape of my sculture. But you looked so tired again,
(24:17):
just just how my face looks.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
That's just so much.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
And then one technically it's kind of a movie that
we've watched and once again, rest in peace, Mattham, Jamal Warner,
Ozzy Osbourne, you will both be missed. But Jaws obviously
turned fifty this year and I watched the documentary. Have
you watched the documentary yet?
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (24:43):
I love it. Like I wanted to go to bed,
and my sister had like put it on, and I
was like, I guess I'm not going to bed. So
we both sat out in the in our in our
living room until like midnight and watched all of it
because we just couldn't stop it.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
No, you can't, like it's such a pivotal movie in
the history of cinema, Like it truly is. It is
our our real true introduction to the filmmaking of one
of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Steven Spielberg. You know,
there were practical effects in it, because there had to
(25:23):
be practical effects in it. It was nineteen seventy five,
for Christ's sake.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Well it was just the I mean the documentary though,
was just talking about how some of the people that
they had in the town, like the guy who was
on one of the boat where he's just talking to
almost no one and they're like, we didn't give him
(25:53):
a line. That was this ten talking I was, it was.
It was just it's a great documentary. I'm not sure
where you can watch it.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
I wish they would have gone in depth into how
the mayor was elected and then re elected.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, but then they talked about like the impact of
the movie and in cinema, and had all these different
directors like Jordan Peele Soderberg, JJ Abrams, Emily Blunt was there,
Cameron Crow. It was just all these people talking just
about like what this movie did without it at the
(26:35):
time knowing what it was doing, and that was changing
how we look at movies.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
It was changing filmmaking. It was changing how we looked
at movies.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
And how movies were like constructed, like how the modern
narrative was constructed, and how will never really match up
to Jaws.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Bruce. The Shark is just such an important thing in
the history of film, and I love that it got
a home in Universal Studios.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
I believe the Academy Museum.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Initially it was moved to Universal Studios. It is now
in the Academy Museum. Okay, they took it out of
Universal Studios, but no, like that cast is brilliant, Like
Richard Dreyfuss is so good in that movie.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yeah, oh, I mean all those guys are the what's
his name the it's yeah, Robert Shaw is, like I
was trying, one of my favorite characters.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Of all time. Like quin is just so good of
a character.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
See I love Brodie.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Oh no, Brodie's fantastic, and Schneider or Shier excuse me,
is brilliant. Yes, it's just like a smile for me,
you son of a bitch.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
It's it's all the scenes on the land because he
doesn't particularly like the water.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
It's just the he's the sheriff of a fucking baby. Yeah,
and he hates the water. It's so good, but like all.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
The emotion is kind of put on him, like the
weight of the town is on him. Quent is just
a hired gun and Richard Dryight and Hooper is just
the scientist to help everything rides on Brody, and Brody
just wants to protect his town and the grand scheme
(28:44):
of things. It's it's nothing bigger than that, really, it's
just he wants to protect his town. Like it's not
even his town, it's the town that he he's been
there for Yeah, and that's that's the entirety of the
movie is justing the people there while other people are
trying like who are thinking more of optics, He's thinking
(29:09):
of the people.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Well, I boil it down to the fact that the
scene in the kind of galley of the boat with
with Brody and Hooper and Quint when they're all just
getting drunk and telling stories is maybe one of my
favorite scenes in all of cinematic history. There's no there's
(29:32):
there's no action there. The shark is nowhere to be seen.
It is just these three guys holding up the movie
and talking about their scars and the USS Indianapolis and
like that they start to sing like it's just it
is a quintessential scene, and it is probably the scene
(29:54):
that made me love movies as much as I do.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
It's the camaraderie.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
It's it's and we get to oh those characters just
from that scene.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah, it's it's it's Have you seen Jurassic Bark Rebirth?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Not yet?
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Okay, there's like a scene in in Rebirth that it's
just kind of just thrown in just to have a
little bit of like like written drama and like try
and build some backstory of these two characters to make
you make them sympathetic, And it's like everybody's just trying
to recreate Jaws. Like that scene. It was just like, man,
(30:31):
they're just trying. They're trying to do the cabin scene.
That's what they're like, between mahearschal Ali and Scarlett Johansson,
they're trying to do the cabin scene. And it's like
it's just it's so thrown in there in a movie
that doesn't really require it, but it gives them, I
guess their motivation and our our motivation towards them. But
(30:51):
it's just it, it doesn't it doesn't the same. Scarlett
and Rehearsal are fantastic actors. One Oscar winner, one multiple
Auscar nominee. They're both fantastic actors. But it just it
feels like a little just oh shit, we got it,
Like we actually have a little have to have a
(31:12):
little bit of acting in this movie.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Yeah, it feels a little disingenuous. Ye listen, if you
haven't watched Jaws one, what rock have you been living under?
Or are you a small child? And if you are
a small child, why are you listening to this podcast?
That makes no sense. But in case you haven't watched
Jaws in the fifty years it's been out, it is
on Peacock. Go watch it.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I have a grading voice. Why would you be listening
to this? While I do think that Jaws is probably
Spielberg's best movie, it is not my favorite. I know
it's ready to play it at Close Encounters of the third.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Kind Close Encounters talking about a guy carrying a movie.
Dreyfus carries that damn movie so selfish.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Yeahs in that movie. That's the entirety of That's the
underlying story of of Close Encounters is the selfish, selfishness
of Richard Droyitis.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
He probably just wanted to meet Elvis.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
But I love the movie because it's it's truly just
like the most like wondrous movie I've ever seen on
the big screen.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
It is and and the cinematography is excellent, The sound
design is excellent, like score, the music itself, the score. Yeah,
it's a great movie. So yeah, go watch Jaws for
Christ's sake.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Watch all of Spielberg's Catalogielberg's ever done. Start from what's
it called crap? I had it? I start from duel
and then what is his most recent probably The Fableman's
Is it The Fablemans? Probably? God, if it is, feel
(32:56):
so bad, because it is, I do, God, I love that.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
It's a great movie. His most recent film was The
Fableman's in twenty twenty two. He needs and then he's
got a untitled science fiction film coming out next year
that isn't post production. He directing, producing, and he did
the story writing.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
So oh dude, Yeah, have you looked at the cast
Emily Blunt, Wyatt Russell, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Colin Diming, Coleman, Domingo,
Eve Houston, and I don't know Noah Robbins, but I
know all those other people, Chavo Guerrero Junior Nice. Sorry,
(33:44):
it's fine, Yeah, yeah, we're talking about Joss. I also,
I have my ticket for Jaws and iMac and it's
the biggest burden on my A list right now because
it's so far out. It's so far out that it's
just holding up a spot on my on my list.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
But yeah, awesome. Speaking of Spielberg, I do want to
take a jaunt into what I'm calling Spielberg adjacent because
I feel like the first season of this show was
really inspired by Spielberg. I can't see you.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Yeah, no, I was gonna say that's what I now
the podcast.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Podcasts for audio medium. Uh uh. We got what is
essentially a rundown of season five of Stranger Things, and oh, like,
there's a reason why it's taking so long to get
(34:52):
that fifth season out, is all I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
May I so box, please, absolutely, I'll you people who
been fucking talking about Stranger Things taking so long, and
it's been like nine years that covered like these kids
like three years in middle school. Shut the fuck up.
Have you looked at the runtime of season five, it's
nineteen hours and ten minutes. That the show is fucking incredible.
I don't give a shit, Like, yeah, they've had some
(35:16):
bad episodes, especially the episode in season two or three
I can't remember with The Sister. I believe it's called
The Sister. This show is stupid incredible, Like, look at
the cast, every single one of them are almost every
single one of them are giant. Right now, Sadie Sink
is dominating Broadway. David Hopper has transitioned from Broadway to
a giant movie star. Tamit the Braves just lost technically,
(35:41):
what's her name? Has not like one owner writer hasn't
really taken off. Look at Joe Keary. Joe Kerey's doing
great things and music right now with I can't remember
the name of this man. I had it for a second.
Natalia Dyer is doing some interesting things. Finn Wolfar is
directing and making music. Caleb McLaughlan is eventually going to
(36:04):
be a giant star. I have to believe in that.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Joseph Quinn is your new human torch.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, shut the fuck up, it's a great show. Nineteen
hours and ten minutes. Season five.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Every episode is two hours or longer.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yeah, sorry, Clark, if you could hear me, it's it's.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Gonna be so damn good. We are doing a rewatch
in this household. We are unabacheloredly Stranger for thanks fans,
and we will be watching all four seasons in the
lead up and then we will actually be having watch
parties over at the house or we will watch two
episodes a weekend until we are satiated by nineteen hours
(36:51):
and ten minutes of a footage.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Well, the first also four episodes come out on Thanksgiving,
the next three come out on Christmas, and then I
Little Shaky on the last episodes, either New Year's Day
or New Year's Eve. I don't remember.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
It's it's gonna be brilliant. It's gonna be a great
send off. I watched the trailer accidentally. I wanted to
go in fresh I was, I was, I was taking
taking a Drew approach to things and saw the trailer
and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. So, uh,
it looks fucking amazing.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah, big fan, don't even give a shit about eleven.
Don't even give a shit about eleven. She's not even
kind of my my number one interest on that show.
One of my favorite characters in the history of television
is Steve.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Steve, Steve Harrington is one of the best characters written
on He's almost up there with with Veep. I kind
of think of her name. I should know her name.
He's not there with Leslie No, but who what Julia
Louise Dreyfus. What was her character's name?
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Yes, I am drawing a fucking blank.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Samantha, Selena, Selena, sorry, Selena Myers Myers.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
He's almost Steve is almost almost a Selena Myers.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Uh. Steve is great Hooper's great Opper or Copper sorry,
Richard Dreyfus was on my screen for some reason. I apologize.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Uh, that's right.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Uh. Hopper is great, like get ready for some amazing television.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
I'm excited to see what happens, especially with just Hawkins
in general. I need to know who dies. I need
to know who lives. Uh. I'm prepared for Steve to die.
If he dies, he dies. I it's the end of
the show. It's the end of the show.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
So if he dies, literallyrago.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
If he does, I have to accept it. I can't
stop it. I can't. There's nothing I can do, so
I will just accept it. Hopper more than likely if
he dies, I just have to accept it. I don't
think why nown a writer dies, I don't I think.
(39:26):
I think what's his name dies? Will's brother Natalia's.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Oh yeah, I think I think he does too.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
I think he dies in the first three episodes.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
They pull the last of us.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
No, oh, no, he dies at the end of the
fourth episode, Charlie. I can't think of his character's name, Steve.
I should know more of these characters' names. It's one
of my favorite shows ever. But I'm I am starting
my rewatch at the middle of next month because my
(40:02):
sister and I can power through. And yeah, I am
super excited.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Yeah, super excited. Man. Lots of little bits to catch
up with from Hollywood. Variety reports that Margot Robbie is
going to be starring in Tim Burton's Attack of the
Fifty Foot Woman. Drew your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
I like it. I watched the original, but not the original.
I watched the Guest No, no, the Christopher Guest directed
one I believe in nineteen ninety eight with Darrel Hannah
and Daniel Baldwin.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
I believe it was a Baldwin brother I just don't
know which one.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
But it was one of those movies that whenever we'd
get HBO from time to time, that movie came on
every once in a while. So I would watch that,
like I would watch that. I watched The Fifth Elm
And what other weird sci fi movies were on those
HBO channels.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Event Horizon was always a Horizon.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Yeah jeepers creepers too, but yeah, I watched Yeah, the ch.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Was a creeping It was just it was a very
creepy movie. Keep creepers too.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
So I would watch this movie whenever it would come on.
And yeah, I mean it's it's a simple story, but
it's all about just a woman who who feels small,
and basically the entire story is she becomes big to
overcome her her husband, who makes her feel small.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
I think this is a perfect Tim Burton at adaptation.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
I think it's perfect for Margo Robbie. I'm scared of
it being a tim Burton, Margot. I'm afraid of Margo
being in a Tim Burton movie. I'll watch it because
I like both of those things. I like one more
than the other. Sure, but I I I will definitely
(42:04):
watch it if it happens. She is a producer, so
she has a lot of power too. So yeah, but
into it. I'll watch it.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Your thoughts, I'm into it. I'm into it. Margot Robbie
is a fantastic actor. What's just about anything she's in.
I'm hit or miss on Timpurton. Some of the stuff
I love, some of the stuff I didn't hit for me.
Uh so we'll see.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Yeah, I mean there there's more misses than hits. But
I get what he's doing. Sure. My favorite thing he's
done is, like, I mean, besides beetlejuice, because that's not
even fair to anything else he's done because he'll never
hit the highs and Beetle never hit the highs of that.
But Sweeney Todd love Swee Todd's.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Not bad core line pretty good, didn't he? Well, I
know he did Nightmare Before Christmas, and I do love produced.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
I mean, come on, man, I'm just saying he's accredited.
He's credited to it, but he's he's just produced. He
did not direct it. It is from his story that
he created while he was at Disney, and that is
why it's technically a Disney property.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
He literally says Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
It sure does look at the director.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
Okay, okay, Well, if we're talking about just his director credits, I.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Have to be that stickler.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
Batman eighty nine loved it.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Oh, it's fantastic. I like Batman Returns More.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
Batman Returns I liked More. Not a huge Edward SCISSORHNS fan.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
See I love Edward Scissorhands. That movie is so beautiful
to me.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
I mean it's beautiful. It's just not my cup of tea.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Okay, but nothing beats Beetle Juice. Let's just put that
out there. Nothing I think ever will.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Sorry, I'm trying to find his You know what a
movie that I watched really young and I didn't know
was him was Frank and Weenie and we owned it. Yeah,
all I remember was just Shelley Duvall and and this
kind of creepy. I can't remember what kind of dog
that is. Bless your blessed. Sorry, I'm just now onto
(44:24):
his IMDb directing.
Speaker 1 (44:27):
I got it right now.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Oh pee Wee's, Oh speaking to pee Wee's at one.
Speaker 1 (44:32):
Point I forgot. I did forget about pee peee is
up there?
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Yeah, but did you hear about what the Alamo did?
Speaker 1 (44:39):
They bought Peewee's red bike.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Yeah, and it would be very permanent display. And I
believe starting in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
It's where it belongs where.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
I was trying to explain that to my sister and
she was like, I still don't get it. I was like,
you just you just have to get it to get it,
I mean, just watch the movie.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
I did like Edwood and Mars Attacks.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
I've not seen ed Wood, but I do like Mars Attacks.
I do love Sleepy Hollow a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
Planet the Apes sucks. I hate it.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Big Fish is very good.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Big Fish is great.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for what it
is a pile of garbage, but it's a it's a
fun pile of garbage. I love Corpse Right. I think
Corpse Right is actually really great.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Yeah, Corpse Bread's good. I hated Dark Shadows.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Yeah, it wasn't good.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Frank and Wienie was really good. We talked about that.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
I haven't seen the remake. I've only seen the original
of the Frank and Weenie was originally like a twenty
two minute short.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Yes, it was a short film. It was from nineteen
eighty four. I have only seen the twenty twelve Frank
and Weenie.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
The feature movie.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
The feature length movie Dumbo was hot garbage.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Hey, Miss Peregrine's Home for a Peculiar Children. It was
my I believe, my inter introduction to Ela Pernell. But
I like it. It's it's a little weird and it
falls apart at the end, but it's it's fun. I
have not watched any of Wednesday, and I didn't and
I didn't particularly like Beetle Juice. Beetle Juice Wednesday was good.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
Beetle Juice. Beetle Juice was what it was.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
Yeah, it was a Jenna or take a vehicle. It was.
It wasn't really that much of a Beetle Juice movie.
Speaker 1 (46:31):
No it was not. So Yeah, Marco, Robbie, Tim Burton. Interesting.
I'm interested at least, you know what.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
I'm also interested in what's that this Friday?
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Happy?
Speaker 2 (46:44):
Yeah too? And I'm hearing some good things and you
know what, also, I'm gonna always bring it up. Directed
by Kyle Nuchek. So proud of you. Bro love that, dude,
ugloids get it?
Speaker 1 (47:01):
I love it. I absolutely love it.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
Do you get that reference?
Speaker 1 (47:06):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (47:07):
Do? Do you listen to the podcast? So this is important?
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (47:11):
Yeah, I don't know. You listen to this and is important? Okay,
it's a stupid podcast. They have nothing to say, and
I love them so much.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
Oh no, there's zero things important on that podcast. But
it's so good.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
I mean, I've been watching the Workaholics yeah so long.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
Yeah, all of them are fantastic.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
But I'm hearing good things. MJF was just on Katie
Nolan's podcast Casuals, and he was promoting the movie with
his three brothers, who are the sons of Happy Love It.
I'm excited for the movie, it's going to be a
lot of fun. There's way too many cameos, far too
(47:54):
many cameos. There are too many that it's going to
be just upsetting, like like another person.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
So they are having a ton of professional golfers in
cameo in the film. And the British Open, or the
Open Championship as it's now called, just ended at this
past Sunday. Scotti Scheffler, who won the event is also
(48:24):
Gildmore two. He brought the Clarion Jug, which is the
trophy for the winner of the Open Championship, to the
red carpet and just hanging out with the Clarion Jug there.
I'm totally do oud for it.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Listen, if we get juli Bowen back, I think golfers
respect happy.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Yeah, it's so weird.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
We get Julie Bowen back, which I love. We get
Christopher McDonald the shooter McGavin back, which I love. Ben
Stiller as as Hal.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
How did they get Margaret Qually to be like a
major part of this movie.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
I don't know, man, I literally don't understand it. But
I mean she was in the substance and once upon
a time in Hollywood. Two movies that you and I
have talked about ad Nuuseium. She's also in Poor Things.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Yeah, she doesn't have a lot to say, a lot.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
To do it. But I'm just saying, like she's in
multiple movies that are critically a claim.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
She has plenty to do. In Poor Things, she just
doesn't have a lot to say. Yes, I don't. I
think she maybe has like three words of die, three
actual words of dialogue in that movie, because she's just
a second experiment.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Yeah, Bad Bunny is in the movie, as is Caddie.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Why.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I mean Alan Covert,
who played the homeless guy that was is in the
movie a kid, So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
He is Bad Bunny his his son.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
God I hope, so, God, I hope.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
So if we can get a scene with Alan Covert
and Bad Bunny having just like a weirdest ship relationship,
I'm in.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
That'd be great.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
I'm in.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
But yeah, Kevin Nielan's back as his character from the
first movie, which is great.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
And Red Lobster's back, so the oh, actually no, that's
the wrong wrong character.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
Yeah, sorry, Subway is probably back.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
No, they're prominent. They they're on his his golf bag.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Yeah, I'm excited for this movie, like way more excited
than I shouldn't be for the movie. I just want
Adam Sandler back in my life. Is that so wrong? Thing?
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Is? I feel like it's it's time. I feel like
this was the Had we gotten it any sooner, it
probably would have been bad.
Speaker 1 (50:59):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Absolutely, But I think they're kind of handling it with Carrera.
And I believe Adam even had to rewrite part of
it because Carl Weathers died. So oh yeah, and yes,
of course r I p Carl Weathers. He's Chubbs Chubs.
It's all in the hips.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
It truly is all in the hips. Damn Gator took
his hand.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
Oh and on the Red carpet, Adam Sandler talked about
Malcolm Jamal Warner and I didn't realize like he was
on Cosby Show. He was one of Theo's friends in
high school, and he was like he was just like
he whenever I came on to the show. He was
just so accepting. He like we hung out a lot.
So he showed a lot of respect to Malcolm Jamal
(51:49):
Warner on the Red carpet yesterday, So that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (51:55):
The only bit of news that I have outside of
one of the main things that I want to talk
about with you is it just came out in Variety
again that Matt Stone and Trey Parker have inked a
five year streaming deal with Paramount Plus for one and
a half billion dollars.
Speaker 1 (52:16):
So, like, kudos to the guys that started South Park
in their garage with freaking construction paper, for getting that bag.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
That's three hundred million a year.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
It's a lot of money. There's a lot of money.
It's a lot of money, and they get well earned,
well earned. They're heading into their like twenty seventh or
twenty eighth season, So kudos.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Yeah, And then of course we we kind of have
to discuss it just a little bit. We're not going
to go too far into it because there's already so
much discourse and we're just a bunch of dumbasses. Nick's
a smart dumbass and I'm just a dumbass. But of
course Colbert and CBS, due to financial reasons, have decided
(53:15):
to end.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
The show, and we're not talking about Colbert's leaving, and
we're getting another host for the Late Show, a late
night stand alone for the last thirty plus years. The
Late Show is going away in May of twenty twenty six.
So like David Letterman, Stephen Colbert and then no One
(53:44):
are your hosts of the Late Show.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
You know what, the best thing that's going to come
out of this, Colbert is going to go back over
to Comedy Central and scorch the fucking earth.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
I love it well. Unfortunately, Comedy Central is also owned
by Paramount.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
God damn it. So oh, he's gonna that He's gonna
own his own studio.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Listen. I think Stephen Colbert may be one of the
smartest human beings on the planet, and he's a comedy genius.
The fact that for ten years he played a just
character among characters and people actually believe that was who
Stephen Colbert was is a testament to how good he is.
(54:27):
He's gonna land on his feet, obviously. I would love
for him to get like a lead in show for
like John Oliver on Max or something like that. You know,
he again, he's gonna land on his feet.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Of course, he's too smart, like and he's too valuable.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
Yeah, but what we're going to see over the next
you know, eight months or whatever it is, is much
like you talked about scorched fucking earth. He already didn't
hold back in his first episode back after he announced
that they were being canceled. Uh. We got to see
Adam Sandler and Christopher McDonald. We got to see.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
Out with Myers and Myers, John Oliver, John Stewart, God
Stewart who I don't think Kim Kim couldn't make it.
I don't think Fallen was there or was found with
Jimmy with with Seth.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
Fallon may have been with Seth.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
I think with Seth.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
But we also got to see why can't I think
of his name? Triumph the comic dog. Robert Schmigel was
there and then a lovely little uh artistic rendition we'll say,
of the Pairabount plus logo and the orange terrible piece
(55:52):
of ship man, uh, which it was pretty damn funny.
Uh So, man I I it's I love late show.
I've been watching with Stephen Colbert. I'm one of the
three plus million that watch every night. Stephen Colbert is
just my favorite late night host. And it's gonna be
(56:13):
said to seem go, it's gonna be said that there's
not gonna be a late show like we've got the
Tonight Show in that time slot or Kimmel and that's it. Now.
It's just it sucks and I don't think it. I
know that Paramount doesn't understand the importance of Late Night.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
No, it's other people did it before and obviously, like
but Johnny Carson kind of made it kind of what
it was. It was a showcase for the people who
like are trying to get you to watch their movie,
their TV show. It's a showcase for you.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
To kind of get to know their music.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
Yeah, I get to know them a little bit, like
a story and anecdote that they had, and like then
you kind of feel like you know just a little
bit more about them, and hey, do I like, do
you remember Bryce Dallis Howard on Conan and she cried
on cue? It was an incredible performance and you wouldn't like,
you wouldn't know that she can just do that if
(57:15):
she didn't do that on the Conan Show.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Do you remember seeing Mac and Me forty seven times?
Speaker 2 (57:25):
I remember, I don't know if it's forty seven, but
I've seen I watched almost all of them happen as
they happened, they happened. But yeah, I mean, obviously most
of my references are are going to come from Conan,
and that's my He's my late night host. But if
I'm if for me, you're you're a Colbert guy. I
am a Seth Myers guy.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
I mean I'm talking about that time slot.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
I know.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
Oh Seth Myers is something altogether brilliant.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Yeah, Seth Myers. And also he has just such a
relaxed interview too, which I really enjoy.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
Hate to hear about Frisbee. Yeah, Andy Samberg didn't it.
Speaker 2 (58:02):
Do you hear about? Oh boy, do you hear about Frisbee?
I can't remember what he said. Uh, you can't be
you can't be serious, because I would be so happy.
It's not the the uh the reaction that her crew
(58:23):
thought he was going to have to the reaction of
Frisbee being dead. Everybody thought he was going to be
like break character. But nope, Andy hates Frisbee.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
Yes, but no, it's just late night such an important
piece of Americana.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
Yeah, it's it's modern.
Speaker 1 (58:47):
Jack Tar to Johnny Carson to David Letterman and Jay Leno.
Now you've got Fallon Kimmel, Colbert Myers. You know you
had the games? Yeah, John Oller you've had the James.
Speaker 2 (59:04):
H.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
Cordons of the world like.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
Sam had had a while it was great.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
I love our lives would not be the same without
Late Night, like that was my jam that that was
my comedy, that was my that was how my brain worked,
was Conan.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Yes, it kind of is so strangely he is still
possessing our comedy brain.
Speaker 1 (59:31):
So like it's a damn shame, is what it is.
And I think I think CBS will regret it. I
truly do. I think CBS Paramount sky Dance if that
eight billion dollar merger goes through, I think they're going
to regret it.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
Sauh. But obviously we're we're on Colbert side. So all right.
A last little things that I've got is taking on
Judge Dreadward. Are your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (01:00:01):
I love when Taika does Taika things like what We
Do in The Shadows was a brilliant movie and a
great series that you know he had his fingers in.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
I thought Thor Ragnarok was uh, you know great. I
thought it was the best Thor movie. And then you
get like Shadows Jojo Rabbit.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Was quite Shadows Ship what is the name of it?
Hunt for the Wilder People is probably one of my favorites.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Hunt for the Wilder People is great.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
I do love Jojo Rabbit. Jojo Rabbit is like I
think the performances of the kid which I do not
remember his name. Uh. Scarlett is is fantastic in that
movie because she really makes you feel Sam Rockwell uh
is great. Thomas and McKenzie has just these wildly expressive
sad eyes that just you have to watch. The funniest
(01:01:08):
scene is with Steven Merchant whenever he walks into their
their house and they have to continue to hile yes,
and it's just like it's the most uncomfortable scene, but
they just they just hold face and they just keep
doing it and it's so funny.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
You know. I loved I loved Flight of the Concords
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
I never watched it, it was so good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
The in between Ers he did, like the only five
episodes of the US version.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Yeah, in between the US version is real bad.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
I bad.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
I'm a huge fan of the original in Betweeners that
came out at the right time.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Yes, you know he didn't direct this, but he he
was the co creator of Reservation Dogs, which both you
and I loved.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Yes, quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Our Flag means Death. I thought was really good. So like,
I like Taika does type of things now long little
hesitant to be like full throated, Yeah, this is gonna
be awesome with Judge dread See.
Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
I'm not as tied to that movie with Carl Urban
as everybody else is. I've watched it recently. I think
it's good. I like it's it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
When you look at it through the lens of the
terrible Sylvester Stallone movie, it's a masterpiece. Well, sure, you're right,
You're right, Like it's not it's good.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
It's not great, yes, but people love it, and I'm
happy that they do. I don't hold as strong of
a place on that U for that movie. But I
think Taika, if he like, he wants to do this movie,
and I think we had the biggest bit of claw
of dirt in our mouth because we got love and thunder.
(01:02:55):
And I don't think he really wanted to make that movie.
Speaker 1 (01:02:58):
I don't think he did either, And it just like
he wrote it and directed it, but it seemed like,
I don't know, it seemed very forced. Yeah, so it
seemed like there were a lot of notes.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Yeah, it feels like he he got a studio movie, like,
and then like the studio really wanted to have some input,
and then he was just pushing back, and I think
we got what we got, which it's not a horrible,
horrible movie. It's just not it's it has a lot
of missteps done. Yeah, and which is kind of a
(01:03:33):
shame because you kind of like, Christian Bale isn't bad
in the movie. He's actually probably the best part of
the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
He's the best part of the movie. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
And Natalie Portman isn't bad. It's just like it's just
a little over the top. Even it's too it's almost
like eighties cartoon. It's too much of it, like an
eighties cartoon.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Agree.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
Yeah, So that's what I got. And then uh Leelo
and Stitch first movie this year to cross a billion.
I think Superman will be the second. I think that
has a high probability.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
So what I read in the trades today, it was
a interview with James Gunn and what they're seeing from
the the daily the rollout domestic versus worldwide. Worldwide is
(01:04:26):
starting to escalate and take over domestic box office.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
James Gunn came right out and said it you know
there's a giant anti American sentiment going on in the
world right now, which, yeah there is, Like you can't.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
We haven't given them a reason not to be.
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
Yeah, you can't just brush that under. But what we're
seeing with this movie in particular is the word of
mouth is helping a ton and like the global box
office is catching up. And I think you're right. I
think when all is said and done this this movie
is gonna gonna the second one. Yeah, will be a
second one. It'll pass a billion dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
And the last little mini story I got is Ryan
Gosling has added to his movies that end with guys.
He's got a new movie with Will Ferrell. He's previously
done The Good Guys, he's done The fall Guy, and
now he's doing Tough Guys. Just give us the Nice
Guys too, Yeah please, well, Russell crowe can still do it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
I really really want to see that movie.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
I'm not gonna push for that anymore because everybody keeps
pushing for that movie. It's never gonna happen. If it
does happen, it'll finally get it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
Yes, it's not gonna happen. You're right, But man, do
I want it to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Yeah, because they had great chemistry. And then if we
can get Angory Rice back too, that'd be hilarious. There's
like great, there's like hookers here. What did I say
about saying like, okay, there's hookers here. I'm not sure
if that's exact words, but it's the gist.
Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
Speaking of him, though, I do look forward to his
project Hail Mary that's coming out next year. It looks
really good.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
You directed that?
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Who directed it? I mean, I know he's co producing it.
I think it is Amy Pascal who's also producing it.
And then oh, it's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Okay, I I so it's a good hand. I believe
in it. I have not obviously, I've not watched the trailer.
I saw the beginning of it, and that's not and
that's all I'll see of that movie until it comes out.
It looks really good, all right, Nick, Do you have
anything else you wanted to bring up?
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
Man, I think we've covered it all. We covered a lot.
Lots happened over the last week.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
So he Superman again. Yeah, see Fantastic four.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
I'm gonna go see it a third time.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
I'm sure together when it comes out on the thirtieth.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
My second time was really freaking good. And guys, it
brings me hope.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
Nick. One thing about Superman. You know the scene where
he saves the squirrel. Yes, it did not test well
and during the screenings and everybody was like, you should
take it out, and so he took it out, and
while he was watching it again, while he was just
watching the scene, he's like, fuck it, I want the
(01:07:23):
squirrel and just put it in. He's like, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
It's a real squirrel.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Yeah, in a like a in a box. But yeah,
he was like, no, I don't care. I want the squirrel.
It means something to me, it means something to Superman.
He wants to say, if to save everybody, I don't
care if it didn't test well, it's I'm gonna put
it in. Like he just watched the cut and he's like,
I don't like it. I don't like it without it,
(01:07:48):
and just put it back in.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
So the joys of having final cut.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
So it's all about hope Man and I have a
little bit, not all of it. I had a little bit,
and I mean supermancher Zelle did bring us a little
bit of hope too.
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
So yeah, yeah it did you know. Obviously we're going
to tell you about our our social media's here in
a second. But just so you know, if you are
out on Twitter at least talking about Superman, you will
get Lex Luthor's monkey bought ship posters on your tail
(01:08:27):
very quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Yeah, because people can only be happy.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
If Yeah, a lot of a lot of ship posting
monkeys and Snyder bros. Out there, So be careful. This
is what I'm trying to say.
Speaker 2 (01:08:39):
See, I do my best to not you have me
tempted because I like the same being things back.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
I pulled the Superman and was very nice to them,
and then they continue to ship post and I blocked them.
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
I'm a I'm a horrible I can. I can if
I can take someone down if I want to. They're
They're they're kind of easier targets, all right, Nick, Where
can they find you?
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Hey find me at Superman's Underscore Papa on the Twitters.
You could find the show on Twitter at was the
pop Excuse Me? At was Underscore the podcast? A get
over on Twitter? Drew, where can they find You?
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Can find me on Twitter and Instagram. At andreas com
you can find me on letterbox and TikTok. I just
posted a photo a video of myself my experience at
the Diamondback game. I went to the Diamondback versus the
Saint Louis Cardinals on Sunday. It was a birthday gift
for my sister, and I forgot to take a picture
(01:09:46):
of the game. But I did draw a picture of
the game while I was there, and I posted that
on TikTok, Instagram and somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
On your letterbox.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Yeah, but you should check it out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
I give this picture five stars.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
No, it's you should actually check it out. I forgot
to take a picture of the game, and I didn't
realize I didn't take a picture of the game, but
because I was drawing it, and it's just.
Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
A big veiny monstrosity. Is what you drew, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
No, you should watch it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
I will.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
I will, all right, Nick. I love you, I love you.
See you next week, see at the movies.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Yes,
