freaking Conan O'Brien fans.

He is my comedy hero, probably actually my biggest hero.

Yeah, I mean he's up there with just biggest hero.
The man has shaped our comedy, yes, in ways that
we cannot express in words. Uh So I thought it,
like I said, apropos of the moment to bring out

because I at that point I wasn't watching that live.
But I was what I did when I was a kid,
because I neglected my homework because I.

Was, as one does, I didn't like doing work.

I just knew how things worked. I knew like I
didn't test well, is what I'm saying. I didn't want
to do homework because I felt like I did all
the learning I needed to while I was at school. Absolutely,
I just needed to be repeated. It just needs to
be repeated to me a couple of times, and then
I got it. But but I forgot where I was going.

But what I would get home and I would act
like I was doing my homework. What I would be
doing is I don't know what I was on on
on the computer. But I had a computer in a
TV in the same room in the basement where nobody
was during the day because they were all upstairs in
the living room, and so I was basically the only

person who was down there during the during the day.
So I'd say I was doing my homework. I was
on maybe Bomb's World or something else I was. I
didn't you and I watched completely different things on those channels.
Because the stuff that you and like your friend and
our friends mentioned I don't know anything about because I

was mainly like playing games.

I wasn't what I get it. Yeah, no, I get it.

Would be watching Conan is like the day before Conan
would be on like Comedy Central or something.

YouTube would came about in like two thousand and five,
I think yes, but I vividly remember the first things
that I was watching on YouTube were Conan O'Brien skips
and like the Walker Texas Ranger Lever, the you know,
the masturbating bear. Saying that out loud into a microphone

is very weird. I'd like to state that for.

The I mean you mentioned any masturbating bear, it's a
little bit.

The preparation, h guy.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
See, the thing is I wasn't watching as much and
retaining as much from the late night show I I did,
Like I'm pretty sure I watched every single episode of
the Conan Show on TBS. I don't think I missed
a single episode of that.

I did not miss a single episode of his show
on TBS for sure.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
So I would like I was more into before I
got into the skits in the in the comedy before
the guests, before I could like really appreciate, like the
comedy sketching sketch stylings of of Conan. I was mainly
into the interview portion, so I wasn't I wasn't paying

as much attention to like the opening monologue and in
the the comedy that was the prepared comedy, which I
in retrospect, I I missed out completely, and yet he
still shaped everything I know about comedy.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well, he's such a great interviewer as well. Like him
and like John Stewart, these are people that and for me,
I know you less, but for me, like David Letterman,
these are guys that that.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I didn't enjoy the way Letterman interviewed people.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
I understand it's different, it's different, for sure, But like
I think all three of those guys that I just
named definitely bring different appeal to a conversation and a
different style of bringing out things from the Interviewee. Yeah,
that are interesting, And I think that's what you want
in an interview anyway, you want something interesting. Hell, Paul

(05:47):
Rudd was on Codin's show a billion times and they
never talked about the things that they were supposed to
talk about. But every interview was interesting and that's all
that mattered.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah for me growing up, because I've loved late night
talk shows most of my life.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Old school Johnny Carson, Like I used to watch The
Tonight Show see Johnny Carson back in the day.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Like Letterman never hit for me. His comedy and his
interviews never really hit for me. I never understood it. Lenno,
I liked his interviewing a little bit.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, Leno's interviewing was okay. I mean it was by
far the best part of the show. Like I never
enjoyed his monologues, even as a pseudo adult, but his
interviews were always good at least.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
And I do remember him with the cards, him with
the cards.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
He always had, you know, the headlines was a big thing.
What I liked about Letterman, and to a to a
different degree, Honan, because Conan kicked it up a notch
was the ancillary pieces.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Like.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Dave had, Paul, Dave had, the producer. Dave had, the
guy of that that owned the Hello Deli. I think
his name was Rupert or something like that, and he
would always like kick it out to the man on
the street and stuff like that. Conan had all these
characters and ancillary pieces that elevated the show. Not to

mention Andy, Max Weinberg, the after Cross. Yeah, so Jimmy
Maveno after after Max left. So like I did, there
there were there were always these ancillary pieces, like I said,
especially with Conan, that I found just so hilarious. And

the type of comedy with each of those ancillary pieces
was different than with the other ancillary pieces, So like
you'd get something different with like Andy on the Couch
versus Andy as like on the Tonight Show when he
had the Tonight Show for the over there speaking, It's

also why I liked h Craig Ferguson.

So he was really fresh, and he he definitely brought
like that British style over even though he's not British, but.

He brought Scottish I believe.

Yeah, he brought he brought the British like talk show
style over here.

He also had a skeleton as a co host. You know,
and this is.

Going to be controversial. I love James Gordon Man I don't.

Yeah, definitely controversial.

I didn't particularly love his interviewing.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
I think his interview he watched Cats too much.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
It's not that I swear to christ. Especially the last
three or four years of Cordon's show. It was the
best best monologue in all of late night. Just not
enough people were watching it. It was the funniest, most topical.

It was the best night to night late night talk
show for four years, going into its clothes like I didn't.
I didn't even watch the interviews. I every single with
late night talk talk shows. I sometimes I'll catch Seth
Myers at the end of the night for a closer

loves or anything, because I love Seth. I think he's
actually the best person right now besides John Oliver.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
His his day drinking with celebrities is That's.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Not even my favorite thing I think.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I think a closer look is probably his best. But
the can't tell joke, Seth can't tell great. Like I said,
day drinking is great. I love that he doesn't stand
for his monologue. I love that he just sits at
the desk, he does his own thing. He does his
own thing, and I love that.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
But James Corden had the best monologue for like the
last four years.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Of Man, I'll have to give it to you. I
was never a huge Gordon fan, just was not my
cup of tea.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
His His was his entire crew, Like you knew every
single person who was behind the camera and that was
just a product of COVID, but literally you learned all
like the producers, all the writers. You saw the the
fifth highest person on CBS, who was there night to night,

fifth highest person at CBS, and he became a comedy character.
It was. It was incredible, uh, because they started making
funny and making fun of his title because he's the
vice president of something, but there is no president of
that same thing. Delightful, So it was it was just

the funniest show. Sorry, we like, oh, it's the thing
is all that comes down to Conan. Conan kind of
shaped like he took everything like from Carson and Letterman
especially uh and.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
And and he's John Mulaney's second favorite Irish talk show host.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
I haven't watched it. I haven't watched it yet.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
No, that that was something that he said on show.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Okay, but it's Conan is just like I he's one
of those people that you're like, I didn't realize he
was my hero until like, like you didn't realize just
how big of an influence this guy was until maybe
like ten years ago, and then everybody's like, oh god,
he's he's beyond, like he's his own, like he's Conan.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
And he's comedy royalty.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
He's gonna go down as one of the funniest you
know people of all time.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Uh, guy comes from Harvard like like everybody else, I
guess in comedy, but but no, seriously, Conan just has
an air about him that everything is is not for himself.
He's not he's not trying to make himself bigger. Everything's

for the joke. Yes, everything's for the craft. You can
see it on his Hot Ones interview, which may be
one of the greatest hot ones slash interviews of all time.
Yes you can. You can see it or you can
hear it at least in every freaking episode of Conan

Needs a Friend, O'Brien needs a Friend, because every interview
is just spectacular. Uh, you know, from Walton Goggins to
I'll tell you what His with Jim Downey is still
one of my favorite interviews of all time. Kevin Neland
was hilarious. Uh, yeah, you know what part I'm talking about.

Yes, it's it's it's probably the most clipped he did.
Really this episode really good for yourself, and I'm just
I'm you're surprised.

But yeah, it's like he's just so earnest about the
craft and about the joke.

And the thing is he seems like he cares about people, which, yes,
other people.

Sona has become a minor celebrity all her own.

Been his assistant for like fifteen years.

Yeah, it's he seems like a person who cares about people,
and for such a large public figure, you're that's not
always going to be the case.

Both physically and in the lexicon. Yeah, because I think
he's like seventeen feet tall.

to go see a second. TIME i thought the music was,
brilliant like just the sound. DESIGN i GUESS i should

Brilliant it is an absolutely fantastic vampire, flick an absolutely
fantastic genre, flick a absolutely fantastic peak into. History it's
it's a fantastic movie about the, Blues like.

PEOPLE i mean the fact that LIKE i love That
smoke And stack Are World War one, veterans that that's
built into the. STORY i love that they want to

it it has the makings of one of my favorite
movies of this year.

Already, yeah IT'S i think it's my second favorite movie

PERFORMANCES i think the the writing is really great just
because it really it fletches out every single character really.

You you Gave he gave enough history that you can
get through in two hours of so many kind of
good like like the the surrounding. Characters because we learned
about the people who did who supplied the, food which
was The asian family who had the grocery. Store we

even found out about their, daughter uh, yeah and then
we we learned about the what's his, Name Delroy, lindo
who's the. Jazz uh and, uh he makes a great
point that he can he couldn't take that. JOB i

mean he obviously does because he has a reliable spot
at a certain bar every Single. Saturday so why would
he risk? It why would he risk his? Chair so
we got to know all these characters and JUST i
felt like it was such a like as much as
you can fit in two, hours they got. It. Yeah

and then like everything from the, cinematography how how it,
shot like from like natural lighting type of. Ways in
some cases it is.

So fucking well. Shot, Yeah coogler just has an eye. Man,
yeah him.

And his cinematographer are the same. Page they've been working
together for the last couple like, him it's him his
cinematographer WHICH i can get her name here in a,
Second an m Durald. Archipa she's done a bunch of
his movies like she did To, forever she did The
last Show girl last. Year, uh she's she's done a

lot of really good. Work but like everything that they
did with with The imax cameras and everything where they
really let the country like are are The Deep south
kind of shine in its own? WAY i thought it
was really. Good but, YEAH i LOVED i loved all the.

Characters, MAN i think the standout character for me was
Was mott was With sammy played By, yeah he's, fantastic
wonderful in this.

Movie but you, know my favorite actual character was Corn.

Bread Omar miller is so good when.

When, jacko when the main vampire is, doing is having
that kind of more jaunty jig kind of. Song whenever
you look in the background of the other vampires dancing around,
him the most fun person to watch Is. Cornbread Just
Omar miller is just having the time of his. Life

LIKE i partially went to see it the second time
to watch him dance To jack McConnell's.

FAIR i love the story about Smoking stack with both
Both Hailey steinfeld and Wod mosica who Played. ANNIE i
love the fact that we got kind of a flesh
out story with like in like back to back, scenes
we Got MICHAEL. B jordan With haley and Then MICHAEL.
B jordan With Wound me and, like you're, like, God

michael just killed it in both of those. Scenes they
killed it in both of those. Scenes it was. Fantastic
and then it like two thirds through the. Movie about
halfway through the movie the movie completely.

all These marvel movies are like three four hundred million

a much SMALLER.

here it's been out since the eighteenth Of, april so
we are on week, THREE i believe of Of centers
being in theaters and it's already gross two hundred and

JUST i think this ensures that Studios i'm hoping it.
Shouldn't it's not going, to But i'm hoping that that
people will look At coogler and be, like, hey there's
there's room to give these visionary directors room to. Cook.

Yeah and the thing, Is I've i've listened to a
lot of interviews With Ryan coogler because over the last
couple of weeks just because he's been all over and thank,
god because he's a very interesting person to listen, to,
incredibly because every conversation is a little bit they always
hit like like the same talking points. Everything While, yeah
but then like he has just like a good story for.

Everybody he just repeating the same thing and he's just
a Very it's a very interesting listen because like he
also just goes off the flow of the person talking to.
Him but, yeah it's also right, now it's it's pretty
impressive because especially right Now thunderbolts is obviously taking over
SOME imax, screens but everybody wants to See sinners in An,

way either tacking on a showing before and opening up

early or staying late to have a showing Of sinners
because people like people want to Watch, centers especially in
that format right, now because they feel like this feels,
big almost Like barbie Or Arpenheim oppenheimer. Did.

Actor they're gonna have an entire storyline about this on

Does. Yeah, basically it's like the main focus, is, yes of,
Course bob and his mental health issues because they they
are the ones that become they manifest problematic if you. Will.
Yes but that's really, great and it's one of the
more Emotional marvel movies we've gotten in a. While there

are definitely two moments during the movie where you could
really find yourself.

Crying but that's What eric On New Rock stars were
saying on his non spoiler, review like.

IT'S i didn't watch that, One so, YEAH i watched.

The non spoiler review, obviously and he said it's just
a very for. It it's a very, grounded ground level emotional, movie,
yes which WHICH i appreciate.

In on the second the reason WHY, i especially on
this opening, WEEKEND i try to see the same movie
twice is because the first TIME i see, It I'm
i'm collecting, Everything i'm, Getting i'm watching, everything But i'm
not able to process as much AS i AS i.
Want and WHENEVER i see it the second, TIME i.

CAN i already know everything that's going to, happen SO
i can really focus on like the minor details THAT
i or like really look forward to certain scenes that show.
Up especially there's a scene With David harbor that had
me laughing pretty like longer THAN i should.

But it was just so absurd that it just got me.
Laught it was it was the same kind of CHUCKLE
i had that The minecraft movie gave. Me there was
one joke in that movie that just had me like,
giggling LIKE i couldn't let it go for like almost a,
minute which is too. Long it's a little, long but
it was just like it would keep popping popping up

in my head AND i would just. Giggle but there's
a moment in this With David harbor that that gives me.
That but then it's, just, UH i want you to,
watch especially the subtleties Of Wyatt, russell BECAUSE i think
while they all suff are, suffering his is different than everybody.

perspective looking At John walker as a character in this
version of THE, mcu it's.

Why Florence pugh is. FANTASTIC i think she's the best

best part of any movie that she's.

acts like she's not saving her face for the, future

doing right. Now but the sneaky performance in the, movie
while what's his Name Bob Lewis pullman is really, good especially.
LATER i mean he the comedic like how they break

the tension is done really well in this. Movie it's
kind of like the same As Delroy lindo and and And.
Sinners he broke attension multiple, times But Louis pullman does
that a lot in this.

MOVIE I i always need More sebastian stan in my.
Life Lewis, PULLMAN i think is a great actor for
his limited visibility that he's, had.

LOT i thoroughly Enjoy Wyatt. RUSSELL i think him In
monarch was the best part of that. SHOW i think
he's just an incredible. ACTOR i think he did incredibly
well In falcon in The Winter. Soldier you, KNOW i

Love Anthony mackie AND i Love sebastian stand AS i just,
said but his character Of John walker pushed the narrative
In falcon in The winter soldier And i'm. Good i'm
glad that he is getting.
