Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good afternoon, good evening, good morning, wherever you may be
listening to this episode of the Washington Craft Brew Talk podcast.
I am your host, mister Mike Jolly. Thank you so
much for listening, whether you're listening on Spreaker, Spotify, iHeartRadio,
and other platforms. So we have a double today and
(00:30):
we have them in two new pine glasses. Excuse me
a little bit of backstory on one of these glasses
and one of these brews today. Earlier this month, it
was my mother's birthday and my father and I took
(00:50):
her to Long Beach, Washington, and they have a store
there that's pretty unique because it has a character named
Jake the Alligator Man, and there's there was a pint
glass there that says believe has a little silhouette of
(01:13):
Jake the Alligator Man, my friend Jake, and then it
says Long Beach, Washington. So that's the story of that
pint glass. But the brew that I found was actually
at a convenience store and it's one you wouldn't think
would be this far from where it's brewed. So this
(01:35):
first one I have is Founder's Mortal Bloom Hazy IPA.
It's a six point two on the Richter scale. It
doesn't have much here other than it was brewed and
at the founder's brewing company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, of
(01:58):
all places. And of course the second grew we have.
It's a seasonal. Of course, it's that time of year.
And I think I've done this on the show before,
but it's Portland Cider Companies Pumpkin spiced cider at a
six percent, made with classic autumn spices, and they've paired
(02:18):
perfectly with Northwest apples. The second pint glass I have
actually is my official Washington craft brew Talk podcast pint glass,
and I'm excited to announce that. As some of you
may know, I have an official merchandise store and you
(02:39):
can check the link out into description here. I will
be posting it as soon as I've finished a recording here.
So let's get right into it. The founders Mortal Bloom Hatipa.
I mean, let me see if I can find anything
(03:00):
about Let's see what their website says, Founders Brewing dot com.
(03:26):
I've had their all day I pa before, all right,
so the nope, it's not this one that said it
was an imperial. Here we go. It's a year round
hazy ipa with a fifty ibu one hundred and ninety
(03:49):
nine calories made with Citra mosaic chinook and cascade hops.
It's got the tasting notes say here, it's citrus tropical
notes of pineapple and mango, moderately hazy, low bitterness, soft mouthfeel.
And the description here says Mortal Bloomer minds us that
(04:09):
you can find what you're looking for in a truly
unusual places. This radiantly beautifully beautiful hazy ipa will wrap
your taste buds with intense citrus tropical notes of pineapple
and mango. Intense flavor is balanced by a soft mouthfeel,
making Mortal Bloom incredibly flavor and aromatic without any harsh
affrocase and breaks the unconventional with Mortal Bloom. And you
(04:30):
can check out Founders and all the veers they have
at Founders Brewing dot com. And it's one place I
would love to visit if I could ever get my
travel situated. Oh that sounded good, all right, so we'll
(04:53):
use we'll do the poor I'm not going to pour
a full glass of this, add a little more to it,
do a half glass, okay, So right away it is
(05:16):
very very light, very hazy. We'll do it side by
side comparison here, so right away, Oh, I can smell everything.
(05:43):
This is going to be a treat, all right. So
this is Founders Mortal Bloom Hazy IPA at six point
two percent in three two one. Let's give it a try. Wow,
(06:10):
that actually is pretty fantastic. It's not too bitter. Uh,
I can taste everything, you know, everything is It's almost
like it's enhanced. Very good. Highly recommend this one again
(06:37):
if I ever make it to Michigan again. Uh. The closest,
you know, the other part of Michigan I've been to
was Detroit and that wasn't a labor but I would
love to visit Grand Rapids, would love to check out,
you know, Founders Brewing Company. So with that in mind,
(06:58):
time for the grating of this one. The can is
absolutely beautiful. You've got the hops, you got the floral,
you got everything, the letters, you know, the the logo
is like right there, bright beautiful yellow against a black background.
(07:21):
It looks exactly like it says, it's a hazy I
p A smells wonderful and the taste is really absolutely fantastic.
So as you know, we do a scale of zero
to five stars, five stars being the best, zero being
the worst. Dump out Founders, Mortal bloom Hazy I p A, So,
(07:43):
Founders Brewery Brewing Company. I'm gonna give your Mortal bloom
Hazy I p A a very well earned five stars.
That is fantastic. Highly you know, ten out of ten,
as a YouTuber would say, ten out of ten highly recommend.
(08:04):
Definitely recommend this one if you ever get a chance
to try it. And again, I was totally surprised that
I found it at a convenience store in Long Beach, Washington,
But then again, you know, you could find the craziest,
craziest bruise in the most random places. Like the first
time I ever had the Founders All Day IPA. It
(08:26):
was on a flight to Las Vegas from Portland, for yeah,
because it was Valentine's Day and all everyone over the
age of twenty one got a free drink and I
somehow got Founders All Day IPA and it was fantastic.
Excuse me, but yeah, definitely, definitely would recommend this one.
(08:55):
All Right, we're gonna set this one aside for now
because we're gonna do another little experiment here in a
second after we do Portland Cider o our old friends
of Portland Cider with their seasonal and you know, Portland
Cider has really been really been doing fantastic work with
(09:17):
their seasonals and their ciders. I mean their Concord Grape
was fantastic. If memory serves correctly, this one is pretty
good as well. And see, I was never a big
pumpkin spice guy because just for the fact that I
(09:41):
always associated it with like, pumpkin and like, and I
was never a big pumpkin fan. But pumpkin spice, I
guess it is totally different. It's the spices that they
use in the pumpkin pie mix. So but this is
always a treat. Anything from Portland Cider, just says independently
(10:06):
owned Northwest Apples gluten free. The can is orange, I
want to say cream colored and red for apple, all right,
and it's kind of hard for me to open a
can nowadays because I won't get into it. So here's
a little oh yeah, all right, niff test oooh. That
(10:34):
definitely smells like pumpkin spice. And we're going to use
the brand new Washington Craft Brew talk like glass. You
can get yours along with your beer, coozies and other
merchandise that I have made. And again I will put
the link in the description. You know when we're done here. Wow,
(10:57):
that is like very clear. Kah, Well, you're not going
to be able to you might you might be able
to see some of it. I'll have to turn the
glass around. You can see perfect, all right. So let's
(11:23):
look at Portland Cider Company. Nope, not Yeah, they are
located in Clackamas. Interesting. Oh do I want to join
(11:45):
the cider Club? Yes? You know I am going to
join the cider Club? Uh? Oh wait no, forty five
dollars a quarter. Oh. And the ship also shipping to Wyoming,
(12:09):
West Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington from Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Pennsylvania,
of course, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio, New York, Nevada, New Mexico,
New Hampshire, Nebraska, North Dakota, and North Carolina, Missouri, Maine, Minnesota, Maryland,
(12:32):
mass Louisiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, Iowa, Hawaii, Georgia, Florida, GC, Colorado, Arizona, Alabama,
and Alaska. And with membership benefits, you get a curated
(12:56):
quoteback of our sixteen ounce and proper pint nineteen point
two ounce cans. Early access to new Portland Sider releases, discounts,
members only Facebook group Exclusive Portland Sider. Let's see local
fan pickup is forty five dollars, So yeah, that's something
(13:20):
that's something to look forward to. But let's see if
we have Let's see, the Pacific berry was good. I
haven't tried the Peacht Island dacory. The winter seasonal is
coming soon, so I'm very curious to see what that
(13:41):
one's going to be like. So what they say here,
This one is available August through October. It pairs with
apple pork, chopped cinnamon, sugar donuts, gingerbread cookies, and roasted
sweet potatoes. It uses Northwest apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, clothes, allspice
(14:05):
and ginger. You can actually make cider Brian pork chops
with apple chutney with this, so and they have a
cider cocktail recipe uh pumpkin spice syrup mmm. So yeah,
(14:37):
definitely check out Portland Cider's website for everything that they have.
You know, join their join their cider Club. It's forty
five dollars a quarter, so that's a quarter is every
three or four months, so you're looking at about so
if it's like four months, that's like ten dollars and change,
(14:59):
maybe eleven dollars a little over ten dollars a month.
Not bad. And they can ship to wherever you are
in those certain states. I don't know if they can
ship to Canada or any other locations yet. This is
the Portland Cider Companies seasonal Pumpkin spice cider. I know
(15:22):
I've had this before, but I have to. It's that
time of year. Come on, man, let's just do it. Yeah.
That that's everything it says and more. God, I love
(15:44):
I really have come to love Portland Cider Companies ciders. Yeah,
I'm thinking maybe this week or something, I might actually
do that. But do I want to do the one
where I pick up because Clackamus is a bit of
a bit of a stretch for me when you when
(16:07):
you're writing public excrands. And of course I might do
the male one. I don't know. We'll have to, We'll
have to see. I really want to do this. Third beer,
I have another I have another beer here, another brew.
It's another craft from another craft brew company, and it's
(16:31):
a lower, lower strength percentage wise of both of these,
and if you don't know what it is, people think
that it's not a real thing. But I guarantee you
it is a real thing. I'll just describe. I'll just
describe the can, and you know the company for you.
This is ten Barrel Brewing Company down in Bend. This
(16:54):
is their pub beer lagger. It's a very no descript
can and right on it says cheap fun. I mean
it's just a logger. I mean, what more can you say?
I drink plenty of them at a certain establishment here
(17:17):
here in Vancouver, Washington, because like it says, it's deep fun,
you know, for three twenty five for a sixteen ounce can.
And it goes well with the Washington Craft brewtop beer
cooler Coozie, which is available on my merchandise store. So
(17:45):
Portland Sider, you know you're gonna get. You're gonna get
major marks on this. Not gonna lie, no lies. It's
a ten out of ten, highly recommend, very well, very
well made. You know, it's perfect for the season. You
know you can make, you can make has got a
recipe for pork chops. I'm not a big pork chop fan,
but I digress. I may try that with this, however,
(18:09):
your cocktail that you mentioned, I think I may be
able to improve on or make one of my own here.
And people have seen me do this before. I like
to call it, well, this will be the Hazy Pumpkin spice.
(18:31):
I guess, the mortal pumpkin spice. So what we're gonna do,
and we're gonna use We're gonna use the Washington Craft
Bow Talk pine glass here, so we're gonna add a
little bit of this hazy bloom. We'll do half and
(18:51):
then we'll do half. Oh okay, and we'll take a picture.
We're gonna post all of these on the official X
(19:12):
machine here as soon as we are. We'll get and
you can see this. You can see the studio equipment
in the background. But also I want to give a
(19:36):
big shout out to a couple of people that have
paton merchandise for the Craft Brew Talk Show already. Of
course I want to say thank you to uh Brian
Miller who bought a Halloween addition T shirt, and also
to my buddy George in New Jersey bought the Craft
Brew Talk beer cooler koozy. And of course check out
(20:01):
Geo's door. You can find him on Twitter at Geo
shamrock en Roll and just check out the store see
what he's got. I mean, it's it's really cool. But
we've got the half and half here and I think
we're gonna call this the Mortal Pumpkin Spice. It's a
(20:28):
marriage of founders Mortal Bloom Hazy IPA and Portland Cider
Company's Pumpkin Spice. Let's try this here we go. Oh yeah,
(20:48):
that is fantastic. Wow, Oh my god, I think I
just I'm like doctor Franken's signe of the craft beer scene.
I've actually done something like this at the Brake Side
(21:10):
Brewery in downtown Vancouver, and I've done it at I've
done it in several bars here and here in Vancouver.
But it's definitely worth it because the cider bounces out
the all the happiness and whatnot of the I p
A and the I p A bounces out all the
(21:31):
darkness of the cider. So it works. The color didn't
even change. It's still the same color. How cool is that?
All Right? So, uh, like I said, I'm gonna post,
I'm gonna I'm gonna put the link to my merchandise store.
I'm also gonna put a link to my official sponsor,
(21:53):
which is Raycon Raycon ear products. I mean, I have
the everyday earbuds and there are just fantastic. I've taken
these earbuds with me on my travels work and my
travels across the country. They they're clear sounding, they have
(22:14):
base sound, clear sound, and full sound, and then there's
awareness mode, which you can hear everything around you. But
I'm going to put a link to their products on
here as well, and I want to thank you guys
so much for listening. And of course I do have
(22:34):
to do it. I have to. I have to make
that final thing. You know, know your limit, no when
to say when, you know, because drunk driving is costly
for you as costly for your family and the family
the person you hurt. You know, there are other options,
you know, you can do what I do. Take the
(22:55):
take transit, take a cab, take an uber, take a lift,
have a friend pick you up, Ipsy Towing will tow
your your car home for you, or most enough, just walk.
Never never ever, ever drink and drive. That's I mean,
(23:18):
that's that's just like standard don't do you know? All right, guys,
how that wraps up for me. I hope you enjoy it.
Enjoyed this. Also, don't forget to check out all my
other episodes on Spotify. iHeartRadio, Spreaker, Apple Podcasts, Google pok

support you back. But yeah, take care, love y'all. I'll

the Football podcast here in just second
