Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good evening everyone, Welcome again to another edition of the
Washington craft Brew Talk Podcast. I am your host, mister
Mike Jolly. Thank you so much for listening to me
in this episode, whether you're listening to it on Spotify. iHeartRadio,
Apple podcasts, Google podcasts, all that all that fun, necessary fun,

(00:27):
and necessary locations where you can check out my shows.
As you know, last night I did the I did

(00:47):
a cider from Portland Cider Company, which was very tasty.
So tonight I have I have something from our old
friends at Lucas. Now, for those of you who don't
remember I did. I reviewed quite a few Locust Siders

(01:08):
in the past. I am sad that they essentially were
kicked out of their location where break Site is now.
In fact, Breakside just opened up yesterday. I hope to
check them out in the coming in the coming weeks.

(01:31):
But they always produce some good craft siders and I
was always a fan of them. So to my surprise,
I found this little gem. It is called Juicy Peach
hard Sider with peach and Apple's and it's it's a

(01:53):
pretty tame one at a five percent, you know, five
on the Richter scale and on the can here, it
says Jason Spears, the founder of Locus Cider. I was
attacked as a teenager and was lucky. There's vive. The
incessant buzzing sound of Locus in the heat of the

(02:14):
summer overcame me as I waited for an ambulance, and
I vowed that moment to make the most of life.
Only accept the best. Anything less as a waste of time.
Locus Cider is named to remind us to only accept
the best and go after it all now. And of
course this was crafted to help create change. You can
check out what products they have and where their tap

(02:38):
rooms are located at locussider dot com. They have tap
rooms in Washington, Colorado, and Texas. So you guys are
having an amazing, amazing weekend. It is Mother's Day weekend.
Of course, stupid computer must close this out. All right,

(03:12):
we are here again. It is Mother's Day weekend. Of course,
some of you know, some of you may have remembered
that my mother last year, a year ago, let's diagnosed
with luke erigs or als. So it's been one of

(03:33):
those years. So but let's go on to Locus Cider's
website to see what in fact they're still listed. When

(03:57):
you do a Google search for Locus Cider, it's shows
the old tap room. Okay, so we'll all well, they
have a lot of They have a honey pear, vanilla
bean I've had, I believe I've had the BlackBerry, this

(04:20):
is one of their core ciders. Have the pub dry
with a black cherry, which is dry, a semi sweet
honey pear of course, this is a semi sweet vanilla
beans a sweet. Of course. They've got their uh seasonals

(04:42):
such as strawberry, mojito, watermelon, chai, and sinful cran And
then they have small batch ones that are that have apples, apricot,
peach peppers as known as lingering heat transfusion is apples, grapes,
lime and ginger ale pog which is apples, passion fruit,

(05:07):
orange and guava cucumber that might be interesting, apples and cucumber,
cold brew coffee, apples, cold brew coffee, vanilla and hazelnuts,
gold pressed apples with new Town Nippin apples, a dark cherry.

(05:34):
And then of course they have their imperials which are
like the hard hard, hard hard stuff. So I will
post the can on X which you can follow along
apt Triple R product pears and apples, and so this

(06:01):
was made in gig Harbor, Washington. It doesn't really have
much other information about it. We'll do a little beer
ASMR here, little fizzy and these are only twelve ounce can,

(06:24):
so so we'll just pour this in Periodmr. It is

(06:45):
a very golden color. And like I said, it's only
a twelve ounce can, so you don't get you don't
get quite a full glass. Of course, we're gonna take

(07:08):
a picture and of the poor it's a very golden color.
I mean it looks exactly like like an apple juice
or an apple cider. Oh, it smells wonderful. Smells combination
of peaching apples together. I mean those fruits alone on

(07:29):
their own are great, but when you combine them into
a cider like this, oh maybe it's it's it's on
like Donkey Kong. So let's give this taste, shall we.
So this is a semi sweet, juicy pear hardsider from
Locust Cider Company in gig Harbert, Washington. We're gonna give

(07:50):
this a try. In three two and one, here we go. Well,
it wasn't so much a try as it was. I
drank the whole dang glass. But oh, mess have been thirsty. Wow,

(08:16):
absolutely wow. I won't compare this to the cider that
I had last night, which was the Concord Grape, but
I mean grape and apples go together pretty well too,
but there was something more about that flavor profile, whereas this,

(08:44):
the heart, the juicy peach, is available all year round,
which is great for summer. I mean, this would be
a great summer drink, you know, lounging around on a
patio or you know, floating down the river in an
enter tube, you know, on the patio with the barbecue
grill going. You know, you got apes and dogs and

(09:07):
hamburgers and chicken and lord knows whatever else you're going
to be grilling and just having having some of this
with your friends, just having a good time. That's what
this would be greatful. So and and you know, I
absolutely love Locus Ciders. I'm just so sad that they

(09:31):
had to leave their occupancy here in Vancouver, Washington. But
it is what it is, you know, I mean, you
can only do what can right. So for the grating,
the can very colorful. It's a peach color, which drives

(09:52):
the point home that this is a peach and apple cider.
The color of the cider itself. Uh again, it looked like,
you know, straight up apple juice, and that can be
kind of dangerous if a kid didn't realize what they
were getting into what they were getting. The smell test,

(10:16):
of course, you could smell the peaches. You can smell
the apples. Great, great combination. The flavor, excuse me, the
flavor absolutely on point, you could. You can't get any
better than that, with maybe the exception of Portland Cider
Companies conquered grape last night. But I digress and so

(10:40):
and of course, and of course I drank the whole
dang thing and one one sitting, so it must be
good if I. If I did that, I mean I
only I only do that with something that I really like.
And I love this stuff. I love anything that Locus does.
And I'm excited to see if I can any more,

(11:04):
say like a Total Wine or Oh sad, the one
by me is temporarily closed. Oh because the oh that's right,
I forgot about that. So Total Wine and More by

(11:30):
Vancouver Mall here in Vancouver, Washington had to close temporarily
because they, I guess the roof collapsed on a neighboring building.
So let's see, they got two towns Angry Orchard, Tieton

(11:50):
Imperial Raspberry, One Tree Cider and Stripes Avid. We've had
Yonder Seattle cider that might be good Yonder and of
course we've had Tyton before. We got that. At my
work Angry Orchard, they do have some locust. They got

(12:10):
the Imperial Imperial pineapple coconut. That might be a good
one to review. Cider boys. Of course, from our friends
in Wisconsin. I hope to be back there very very soon.
Russo chilling excelsior I've had. I've had the Tyton Huckleberry

(12:31):
one treat well one Tree Caramel cinnamon. Oh, that might
be interesting. And now a lot of them are coming
out with like jungle juice and all that. I wish
there was a Blake's Cherry limemade cider, Portland Cider, Passion

(12:52):
Orange Guava, oh yeah, Superstition and blueberry space Ship, what
in hell? Heartbreaker cider, Finn River, Uh yeah, Tennessee fire,

(13:14):
that's not even a side. I'd love to try some
Seattle Cider company, see how see how they compare with
Portland Sider cutting. So as far as the grating goes
for Locus Sider's Juicy Peach. As you know, we do
a zero two five stars. I am proud to say
that Locus Juicy Peach hardsider five percent alcohol by volume.

(13:39):
Congratulations Locus, you got a seven and a half stars
out of a possible five. Totally delicious. I will I
will drink more of it if I could, if only
Total Wine just reopened, or if my local Safeway still

(14:02):
carries it. But absolutely fantastic, love it. And you know
I've had your Siders before, I've reviewed your Siders before.
Can't wait to review more. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
come to the time of the show where I must
tell you about our sponsor. Check out Raycon products. They

day because they are noise canceling. I mean I can
listen to my music and audiobook whatever and here clear

I mean, you don't have to get earbuds. You can
