Speaker 1 (00:58):
And during that time when I was in treatment was.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
It was such the best decision that I made, but
also the hardest decision as well.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
I knew I needed to get.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Help, and so during that time during treatment, I wrote
my music. At the time and after I left treatment,
I was sharing my music also sharing my story to
schools and organizations and churches and letting them know that
there is hope and that there is freedom. And so
I wanted to have this podcast to bring on people

gonna do a little disclaimer on this episode and all episodes.
I am not professional or medical profession you know. However,
first I will be if i'd health coach pretty soon.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
But anything that I share is basically due to.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
My experience of what I'm learning and also how I
overcame depression and anxiety as well. I want to talk
about a trigger warning that we talk about some deep,
heavy stuff on here. We're talking about mental health and
some stories and topics could be triggering to you, so
I just wanted to let you know that as well.
Now we're going to talk about did you know mental
(02:30):
health stats?
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Here?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
So I want you to listen to these stats, very
very amazing stats. So according to NAMI dot org and
that is the National Alliance on Mentalillness dot org, did
you know that one in five US adults experience mental illness?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
That's probably more than what you might have thought.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
But one in five, one in twenty US adults experience
serious mental illness.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
This one. I want you to listen to this one closely.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Seventeen percent of youth the ages of six to seventeen
years old experience a mental health disorder. That's crazy, it's
seventeen percent. So community, let's talk more about this.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I need your help.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
We need to have more conversations, we need to raise awareness,
we need to bring light.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
To these topics.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
So if you are someone you know needs support, you
can call our text. It's a twenty four to seven hotline.
It's nine eighty eight. If you are someone you know
need support, text or call nine eight eight.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
So all right.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
So.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Charlotte Williams is a worshiper of Christ. She started singing
in church at the age of five years old, watching
her mother struggle through an abusive marriage and overcame mental
neglect and physical abuse by her father. God gifted her songwriting.
She went on to write mini songs. She is also
(04:01):
a multi award winning songwriter, including her single Heaven Let's
Welcome This Warrior Queen all the way from Texas to
the show Welcome Charlotte Williams.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Oh, thank you for having me, Rosehan, I'm so happy
to be here.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Welcome. Yes, I'm so glad you're here.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Thank you so much for taking the time out to
share your amazing story, your gifts, your music, all the
lovely things that you're doing. And so I before we
start on that, please introduce yourself.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Tell the audience who you are, where you're from, where
you reside as we'd love to hear.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
My name is Charlotte Williams, and I was born in
New Orleans, Louisiana, raised in Nationals, Mississippi, and Favorite Day,
Louisiana until the age of ten years old when my
mom left my father, and through that separation she came
back to Houston. She's originally from Flydale, Louisiana, Creole descent,
(05:12):
and so this is one of the places that my
father brought her that she loved, and so I've been
here ever since. At ten years old.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Wow, wow, I've been to church.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
I'm a president worshiper. I'm okay, right, singer, I'm a
mom of onee she's twenty two now.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Okay, So you're busy, disy, busy, Huh.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
I'm publishing a new book now too. So I mean,
and I'm a talk show host. I do a lot
of things.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Wow, yes, well that's awesome, Charlotte. So I mean, so
I'm hearing you. You have your hat many things, so
you're staying busy, which is which is awesome. So you
have many gifts, so many talents, and so I would
love for you to share with the audience a time
in your life when you face, you know, a major
obstacle and.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Tell your weeping to warrior story?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
What is your weeping to warrior story?
Speaker 5 (06:09):
All I can tell you is it was not easy.
I come from a home and I certainly don't want
to present any one of my family members in a
bad light because I loved each and every one of them,
especially I was very close to my father. But my
father had mental illness that was not diagnosed.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Back then.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
A lot of the men, who especially black men, were
carrying around her pain, anger, or either traits that they've
learned from a They conditioned themselves to be a certain
way due to their environment, and so they didn't know
(06:52):
anything else how to express disappointment, fears, resentment, anger. They
were constantly in those days. My father was born in
nineteen forty three, and so constantly being suppressed and depressed
at that time. It was a lot of pressure, especially
(07:15):
when you're trying to come up out of a rut,
and it can cause you to.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
Do things that you're not proud of.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
And so my father was abusive towards my mother, which
caused them to be abusive towards us as well. So
my brother and I fought through that whole thing of
watching my mother be abused. Also, it made me want
to protect her, so the.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Roles reversed from her.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Protecting me to me wanting to protect her, and so
those kind of things right there.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
I grew up feeling like.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
I didn't have those same moms that the other moms
have in terms of I felt like she was not
supportive and she didn't really know me. So I did
not appreciate her because she was working with what she
had to work with during extreme circumstances, and I didn't
(08:22):
appreciate her back then. I did not appreciate her until
our older years. I think I was in my forties
when I started appreciating my mother because the way that
she was treated with the physical and mental abuse, Yes,
it caused her to disassociate, and it left me feeling neglected,
(08:48):
and it also left me feeling like I didn't have
self worth. I disassociated for years because of it. I
felt not loved in so many areas is I felt
like a victim because it was my father that did
it to her. I felt like my other her sisters
(09:08):
and brothers. Because my mom had seven sisters and brothers.
I felt like they partially blamed me. And let's just
make this clear, some of it was not a reality.
It was just things that were in my mind based
on how the situation and the trick of the enemy
made me feel. Because my father was not in control
(09:33):
of his anger, he needed angle management.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah wow.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
And then my.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Mother resented me as well because she felt like I
should take her side. And I'm talking to somebody right now,
because a lot of times the father makes the wife
jealous because he sometimes makes the wife feel like he
(10:04):
loves his children more than her, Yeah, and she doesn't
feel valued. And then sometimes that causes the mother to
resent the child.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
That he cherishes so much.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Right, And so then this causes a risk in the family.
Their causes curses, unforgiveness. The biggest thing that they talk
about in the Bible. You know I've gone through I'm
not gonna say I've been through everything that someone has
gone through, and choices were different than the next person.
But it was not easy to find myself. Thank God
(10:41):
that God was keeping me.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Oh sure absolutely, Charlette. Yes, wow, what an incredible story.
And thank you for sharing that. I know it's not
easy to share. You know, the things that we have,
you know been through and overcome. And so I want
to ask you this because I know during the midst
of times where we are struggling, we tend to go
(11:04):
and cope, either in healthy ways or in unhealthy ways. Right,
So if we're going through like in my case, you know,
I turned to alcohol, and so what did you do
to cope during this time of growing up?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
What was your way of just like you know, escaping.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
My person to us was food. I thought of food
is comfort over like crazy? Wow?
Speaker 6 (11:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:32):
And I I think that I developed relationships that were
toxic and I didn't realize we're not healthy for me because.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
I didn't have that guidance.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
I had to learn things through the school of hard knocks.
But thank God that God kept me because I was
in situations that could have been sound terrible and dangerous.
I am proud that I never had to compromise my body.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
But I did turn to selling drugs. I did.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
I tried drugs for a short period of my life,
but I was always convicted because God always.
Speaker 6 (12:15):
Had his hand on my life.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:18):
So I turned to the church and that wasn't happening.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
And they got around me in a circle and praised
the thing off of me.
Speaker 6 (12:25):
And it was off.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Yes, yes, we didn't last long at all, but you know,
I I was angry.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
I cutted people out.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
I thought I was abused my partners because I had
been abused. I didn't know how to talk to anyone
and nourish them because what I thought was love it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, I didn't know how to love.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
I didn't know what love was. I had not seen
the perfect love.
Speaker 7 (12:57):

Wow mm hmm, right, that was one of my first songs.
You are a perfect love.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Okay, well we go we gonna we We're gonna talk
about that because that's what I was gonna ask you next.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Like, so, now you told us about the weeping times.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
If you're going through you know, seeing your mom, you know,
being abused, and you're being a victim of abuse and
drugs and and so let's talk about the time of
you went from weeping. Now, let's talk about to warrior.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
I started songwriting at eight, okay, yeah, and but God
gave me writing at as early as six.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Oh wow, yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
But I just I didn't have the structure down perfectly,
but I have the melody and the words so and
I had the voice. So I knew it because sometimes
he'll give us little signs to show us you could
be like this person or that person, or you know
(14:39):
how some voices appeal to you more than of voices.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
And so these things.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
It caused me to be an introvert because I always
felt like I had to protect me and those around me.
My brother was affected by this whole thing. Who was
the only one raised in the home with me his
I don't I want to put his struggles out there,
but he took some of his struggles out on me
(15:05):
as well, and so it also caused me to feel ashamed.
I didn't feel I didn't feel like guarded by him.
And that's because my dad tore his stuff esteemed down
by VI's and him as well. Wow, And so I
don't think any of these people. I love my brother dearly,
you know, till this day, and before my mother passed away,
(15:29):
I bonded with her. I was able God graced me
to tell her exactly.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
How much she hurt me.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
And I was able to tell my dad before he
passed away that college actually affected.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
Me and my brother.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
And you know, love covers a multitude of sins, like
the word says. He said, people wouldn't normally hear from you.
When they love you, and they really hear your heart,
then they will listen to nail change.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yes, yes, absolutely so.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Would you say that songwriting at the age of six
and seven, eight years old? Was that your way of
coping with life, your way of just expressing yourself with
what you were going through. Was that your way of just, yeah,
of escaping, would you say.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
I fantasized.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
I dreamed. I imagine myself being like Donna Rosson and supreme.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Okay, yes, I wanted.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
To be Denise Williams. I watch it, you know, lady
sings the blues. I sung all of those your Mama, Ma.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
God the job that God is old.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
And I would just sit there and listen to Billie
Holliday and yeah Holiday.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
And that's what groomed.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Me and I I actually bonded with God.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
At that time.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Yeah, And I learned my own voice. And I was
not anywhere near I was crumbled.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
I was broken. Yes, I was devastated.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
And so because when we came to Houston, I left out.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
My mother had two black eyes, a broken nose, and
her ribs were broken.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
My goodness, wow.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
And I remember because I kicked her in her nose
my accident while we stayed.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
It's the Salvation army.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Wow, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Well, well, Charlotte, I mean, wow, this is I'm sure
you are going to help someone you know that's going
through a similar story than what you've gone through. So
tell us about your your song. Tell us about your
music and what inspired you to write, because you shared
two your singles, which is called Heaven Right Heaven and
(17:55):
also Broken. So tell us a little bit about you
know what inspired you to write those songs.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
But now you're going way way down the line, because
that was my childhood. I strayed away from Christ in
my twenties. I started doing all kind of stuff just
to survive, writing hot tigs, back.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
Fraud, I've done it all.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
I was not in I was close to the Lord,
but I wasn't following his ways, and so thank God
for his mercy and his grace.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
After I had my daughter, I.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Was thirty two years old. I met her father here
in Houston. He married me and took me to Germany overseas.
That's where he's residing still to this day. And I
felt like by me going overseas, I grew up because
I saw the rest of the world and how it
viewed America. And so I performed. But I was singing
(18:55):
secular music back then. But when I had my daughter,
and when I looked at all of the beautiful things
that God had, when I look at her, and how
he blessed me with someone to truly love me. You know,
I not only that had a I'm a professional cosmetologist.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
I was doing hair at the.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
Time, and when he was presenting himself to me, and
I realized that that Bible wasn't just words, that they
were actually coming to life in my life, and that
his presence book became real to me. That's when that
(19:40):
was my dedication. It's a conversation between me and God.
So I'm saying that he's the light of the world,
the king of our kings, and so he's you know,
I'm telling him, no matter what comes my way, I'm
going to stay with you on this side of heaven. Yes,
was actually inspired by bb Wining Time.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yes, Yes, yes, Okay, So bb one is awesome. Well,
it's a beautiful, beautiful song. Beautiful song.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
So those who.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Are you know, watching or listening, you know, check out.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Charlotte Williams Heaven.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
And then I want you to also talk about your
song broken and then you shared the producer as well,
so talk about.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Talk about that song.
Speaker 8 (20:30):
And yeah, I met mister Rowland Powell at a et
g MP meeting conference that we had in Houston, and
he wanted to elevate my career and he said that.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
I needed a video.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
That that was actually lining up with what I said,
like needed more visuals. So he, you know, graciously made
a trip to Houston and worked with me closely on
a song called Broken. And I told him that God
was giving me songs at that time, just flowing like
you know, water through my body, and I, you know,
(21:11):
he gave me the gift. I knew that he was
taking me into more of a prophetic at the time,
and so I sang a little bit of it to
him because we didn't know what we were gonna do,
and he loved it, and so he said, I don't
want you to try to make it sound like.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
Anything on the radio. I don't want you.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
To worry about anything else but giving it to us
the way God gave it to you. And so I
asked my beautiful friend Danielle to come in and sing background,
and that was in the background. It is so powerful
and prophetic, and it's God telling us that the humble
(21:57):
and the meek are his and reminding us that when
we're at out Lois that's why he's the greatest, Yes,
And it's just like wow, He's reminding us that He
has not forgotten us and that he has us in
the palm of his hands.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
That's what's broken is about.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Yes, beautiful, beautiful playing his little tail off in that song, that.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Music, very beautiful.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yes broken, And I'm sure that this resonates with those
who are listening on today. So Charlotte, share with the
audience now, like, what do you do now to stay
mentally and physically healthy?
Speaker 1 (22:38):
What helps you to stay grounded?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (22:43):
I can tell you that I stay in the presence
of God a lot, okay. And he showed me who
I really was, and that opened my eyes. It was
like when he presented himself and I had that in
common with God the blind.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
There's candy mof yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
And it was just a spiritual quickening, like the word
says in my spirit.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
And it was like a realization that I was dead.
I was.
Speaker 5 (23:12):
If you don't have Christ, you really are not alive.
You don't even know what's going on in the spiritual.
And so as I kept worshiping, and I kept worshiping,
and I kept worshiping and seeking his face, That's what
broken is about.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
He says, seek my face and I'll be.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
There, And it's a reminder that he really does exactly
what he says that he would do. All we need
to do is humble ourselves and have that humility as
what Christ would expect for us to live like, because
we need to realize that you know, and through our
(23:52):
walk and being humble and being able to receive what
He deposits in our spirit, that is how we are
able to to love someone back to him.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
So that's why it's not good.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
The Bible says, get angry, but don't stand, you know,
and so it's okay to be angry. People think that
it's okay. It's not okay to be angry. It is
okay to get angry. However, we have the fruits of
the spirit that teach us that we need to contain
that anger and learn how to control our anger when
(24:27):
we're anger with someone.
Speaker 6 (24:28):
Because if all things want to make sure.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
That we remember Christ and that He is pleased in
our life and the things who stay and the things
where places we go, the things that we do, it
matters because you don't want to offend the very heart
of God by not living a golly lifestyle, then that
makes you a hypocrite, especially you if you're trying to
(24:52):
be in the kingdom.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Okay, so you say you stay in the presence of God.
That's how you stay physically and mentally. That maintains your
physical mental health. Okay, so what advice, what advice would
you like to give the audience on today.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
Well, I also want to say that being in the
presence of God, he's a teacher. Yes, And so when
he showed me who I am and who I mean,
how you know the person that I am for him,
it made me realize I'm important, I am somebody, I
am valuables. I will not allow you. I control who's
(25:37):
around me, I control what you say to me, I
control what I eat. I have the power to choose
lack or day with the power of my tongue and
the choices that I make. So that helps me with
my mental health because I don't have to fight through
a battle that wasn't even designed for me to fight
(25:59):
if I don't any attain it. Sometimes we entertain things
that we are fighting off that were never intended to
be our fight.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
Praise God. So if I keep.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Myself out of harm's way, if I keep myself out
of temptations and just.
Speaker 6 (26:17):
You know, start loving on myself. And that's what I do.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
I start thinking and meditating on the things that I like,
the things that.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
Make me happy, the things that would make me.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Smile, and then I also turn around and bless someone else.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Yes, love it. Yes, you're blessing other people. Yes, so
that gives me peace. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (26:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
And that's the same thing with music, right, you know,
you're blessing other people with your music. When I was
interviewing someone last week, they were saying, like the healing
for them came with their songwriting, but it also came
with them sharing their story, and so that's another gift
that you're giving to others as well. Yes, So the
gift of your music and your gifts. Yes, absolutely, I
(27:02):
love it. So we have a few more questions, missus Charlotte.
So any shout outs that you would like to give,
and tell us what's coming up next so we can
check you out and see what you're doing next.
Speaker 6 (27:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
I'm glad you asked that question because I felt in
my spirit today that I just wanted to tell everybody.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
I don't want to leave nobody.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Out, anybody who encouraged me, anybody who always loved Donvie
and recognized my gifts, help me nourish my gifts. I
want to send a shout out to Apostle Nolan, who
trained me in the ministry. I could never ever say
that he did not influence my life because that's where
(27:48):
I grew.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
We're no worship center, is my prayer family. Also, I
like to send a shout out to my pastor. Now
who is Henry Price.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
Okay, he love me, he values me, He treats me
like nothing ever happened in my life. Yes, yes, it's
called First Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Okay, all right,
under the direction of Henry Price, Bradford Howard Jr.
Speaker 6 (28:19):

a lot of courage, vulnerability. I mean, it is not
easy sharing your story. It's not I mean, like, are
you kidding me? When I was in treatment writing my music,
like I said, I didn't know that that was music
because I'm just writing how I feel. And then when
I left out, you know, out of treatment, I was like,
(29:59):
you know, in my spirit, it was like these are.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Songs and I was like, no, they're not. No, they're
I'm not sure my music.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Oh no, people don't need to know that I was
struggling and silent, you know.

And so those who are listening are watching on today,
if you are struggling in silence, we want to encourage
you to go and get help.

telling you you you got it. If you can say
I need the help, that is the first step.

So yes, So thank you Charlotte for sharing your amazing
story on today. So tell the audience where can we
find out more about you?

out of time now, So thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (32:32):

I was fifteen years old, and I was gonna make
it into a movie, but it didn't happen. So this
was the time that God wanted me to share it
all my life story, and it it goes more into
(32:56):
details and getting to know that family behind the scenes
that I was talking about and the trials that I've
overcome and how God brought me through is really inspiring
to anyone who and I just want to say, I
know we're almost out of town. God gave me a.
Speaker 6 (33:17):
Song called Don't Die in Silence. Tell somebody.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
If you're going through something and it's too hard for
you to even say, you're a shamed you crush your bruise,
you're broken, Just tell someone that you know you can trust,
because Jesus don't help them to get you.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Through whatever it is.
Speaker 5 (33:43):
You know there's places that you're so low you don't
want to tell nobody.
Speaker 6 (33:47):
I get it. I've been there, and you don't know
how you're going to come about of it. I promise
you hold on.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Give it to the Lord and he will bless you
because he has blessed me, so I've grown.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
He put the pieces back together again. I thank you Jesus.
So I just wanted somebody and let you know it's okay,
but don't stay. Don't think you have to stay.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
M h Absolutely, yes, it's okay to not be okay,
but we don't want you to stay there because there
is hope and healing on the other side.
Speaker 1 (34:21):

do it for Charlotte, he can do it for you. Yes, yes, well.
