(00:45):
If you would like to be a guest on my
future episodes, I would love to have you hit your
girl up at info at Roshannicole Wellness dot com. Come
and share your story so everyone can hear how you're
weeping to Warrior story. If you know my story back
in twenty twenty one is when I went to treatment
for two months. I suffered in silence for nine years

(01:08):
with PTSD, anxiety, depression and addiction. I was hiding this
for nine years, y'all, for nine years. So when I
went to treatment for two months, it was the hardest decision,
but yet the best decision that I've made. During that time,
I was writing my music, which I wasn't aware that
it was my music, sharing my story. When I left
out of treatment, to organizations, churches, and schools, and so

(01:31):
I'm super excited to have this podcast because I want
this to be a safe space where everyone can share
their story, because we need more of this where people
can share their story, because so many people are suffering
in silence. So I would love to have you on
and help me spread the word that there is hope,
that there is healing at the end of the tunnel.
With that being said, I'm going to do my disclaimer

(01:53):
like I do every episode. Any information that I give
out on this episode or future episodes is strictly what
I've done to help overcome depression and anxiety.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
I am in a certification.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Program to be a holistic health practitioner, but I'm not
yet certified, so I just want to put that out there,
so anything is based on my experience and my guest
experience as well.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
And also trigger warning.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
This episode and all episodes, we talk about mental health,
We dive deep, we were were real, y'all. We gotta
be real, and so I just want to just let
you know that there's a trick. There's sugger warnings for
all episodes. All right, So let's talk about mental health. Well,
let's talk about the Mental Health Acts, and I've actually

(02:38):
been kind of this episode and a couple past episodes,
I've been giving some facts about mental health and I'm
gonna I'm gonna say these stats again because I think
it's super important for us to realize how so many
people are separating in silence, and how mental illness is prevalent,
and sometimes we're not aware that our loved ones, are

(03:00):
ones or co workers are suffering like me, Like I said,
I stuffer inside it. So I just want to give
you some stats again, and this is from NAMI dot
org and it's the National Alliance on Mental Illness and
have three stats for you. So one in five US
adults experience mental illness.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
So that's one in five US adults.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
One and twenty US adults experience serious mental illness.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
And then listen to the stats, y'all.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
So this is seventeen percent of youth and this is
from the ages of six to seventeen years old experience
and mental health disorder.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
So let's spread awareness.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Let's help break the stigma. Let's support our loved ones
and our friends. So if you are someone you know
is the need of support, there is a twenty four
to seven hotline and you can call our text nine
eight eight. You can call our text again nine eight eight.
All right, I'm super excited for this guest. I am

(04:02):

she is talented. I met her a couple of years ago,
Season sixteen at the Praise Factor Awards in atl Beautiful
on the red carpet.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
She interviewed me.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
And she has a testimony, y'all. Oh, she has a testimony.
I have a lot to say. I have a lot
to say about her. And so I'm gonna read her
bio and we're gonna bring her on and she's gonna
share her testimony. So Marvelous Marissa is this year's MS

Thank you so much for coming on today and just
sharing your incredible story of all the things that you

girls and adults need to hear your story, and so
I'm just super excited.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yes, super excited.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Well, thank you for having me on. I definitely look
up to you. Oh my god, you're a testimony. So
thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
You were one of my favorite interviews doing pray.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Carpet at Praise Factor. Thank you such an honor.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Thank you, and you are my favorite. You know.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
When we have to interview, I have so much fun.
And I was just like drawn to your spirit, your
kind spirit and personality. I'm like, oh, this girl is marvelous,
absolutely so alrighty, So we're gonna get We're gonna get
to your your story. And so I just tell the audience,
tell them who you are, where do you reside, what

(06:32):
do you do? Tell them a little bit about yourself.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Yes, well, my name is Marissa Daniel, but God changed
my name into Marvelous Marissa. I was born and raised
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I came to Georgia at the age
of nineteen by myself when I got accepted into Clark Atlanta.
So I, you know, just been on this roller coaster
pursuing media my dreams. When I was a little girl,

(06:58):
I always said that I was going to be.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
The next Oprah.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
But when I declared that out of my mouth, I
was in speech class from kindergarten all the way to
the sixth grade.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Basically, my kindergarten teacher.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Told my mother that I had a speech problem, that
I wouldn't be able to do public speaking.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
I had a problem with speech, and.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Then it went off.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
It went off from there.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
I was in speech class so that I had a
severe speech problem. And then I was bullied throughout you know, elementary, junior, high, in.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
High school, I was always picked on.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
I was always teased for being the big girl or
you know, the big personality.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
She's too dramatic, ugly, she's not good enough.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
And then when I went on to college, it's like,
here come more.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Of these lies from the enemy. I was told that
I needed to lose weight to pursue media. I wasn't
pretty enough, I.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Had a speech problem, or I talked too proper, or
I didn't know how to nun seeing my words. Then,
you know, I constantly went through doors being shut in
my face. You know, so many networks, you know, closed
the door on me.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I don't like the way that she talks. She needs
to lose weight, she's not good enough.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
You know, went through all of that, you know, the bullying,
the pain, feeling low, you know, feeling very insecure. Yeah,
always overlooked you, always being techies. All of that really
affected my help, my mental health. Believe in the lives
of the enemy, it affects you here. And I just

(08:36):
went through I went through a lot of that, a
lot of you know, pain, rejection, going through a lot
with men, men using me, take good advantage of me.
And it's like the enemy wanted.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
To use people to destroy me. And I remember, and
if I start crying, I do apologize.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Oh no, absolutely, okay.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yes, yes, I remember. One day I was at home
and I just fell to.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
My knees and I cried to God and I said, God,
you know you told me that you have graced me
for media to be a spokes model to the Red
Carpet House.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
But I'm told that I'm not pretty enough, told that
I need to lose weight, like that weight was an issue.
You know, I have a speech problem.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
I mean, you know, I was always told that I
had a speech problem since I was kindergarten, since I
was about five four years old. You know, that was
always told to me. And you know, I just broke
down and cried. You know, there were moments that I
slept with a knife underneath my mattress, wanted to take
my own life.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
You know. And I remember that one day I broke
down and cried out to God, you.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Know, and I heard God told me that I'm marvelous.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
He said, you're my master niece.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
You're marvelous. You're marvelous, You're marvelous. I kept hearing that word.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
I'm marvelous. You know, I am somebody. I'm enough just
the way.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
That I am.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
And God made me look at myself in the mirror
and made me tell myself who who who?

Speaker 2 (10:09):
He says I am?

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Not what the world, you know, the world told me
that I wasn't pretty, need to lose.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Weight, that I have a speech problem. The world was.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Saying this, but see, God said the total opposite of me.
And when I began to believe what God said about
me and you know, and dismiss what the enemy said,
that's when it begins to flourish. That's when doors and
opportunities open up for me. That's when God put me
at the right place at the right time to me

(10:41):
to Wanda Black, which led me to praise factor. That's
when God put me at the right place at the
right time. Meet one of the journalists from TV one,
which is a cyndicated net first and I was highly
recommended to be a fatal attraction and fatal attract and
producers referred me to be on to be on their sister.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Show for my Man.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
You know, all of these opportunities, and I was told
that I wasn't good enough to be on the red carpet.
Why I have graced so many red carpets, Yes, you
know it just it makes me truly thank God for
where he has brought me because I know that it.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Was only Him, only God, that it was only him, yes.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
For me to have on his crown.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
And I'm a spokes model for an international pageant and
this year I was the only African American woman to
win an international pageant.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yes, yes, God, because.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
I know that this was This was God because years
ago I did a pageant. I was set up, a failure,
you embarrassed on stage, but God put me on a
bigger platform. I want this one and he got the glory.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
I really want to be the example for solving little girls, yeah,
who are in speech class, solving little girls who are
talking them that they're.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Not good enough.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
It's the example that you are enough, just the way
they are to believe Gods were over your life.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Yes, wow, marvelous Marissa, You've said a lot. Oh my gosh,
you're I know I'm saying your testimony is is amazing
and it needs to be heard and it needs to
be shared. And you know as an educator, you know,
I'm an educator, and I and I know how kids
can be. You know, they can be cruel and they
tease each other, and so I just want I want
you to speak to that child, or that little girl,

(12:43):
or even the little boy who might be bullied because
of whatever it may be their way or their speech
or whatever it is. I want you to to speak
to that child what words of encouragement would you give
to them who could be listening right now.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
My Basically, I want to tell the little girls, even
the little boys who are told that they are not
pretty enough, that you be that they're not good enough,
or the ones that are currently in speech class. I
want you to see me as your example that if
God is his for me, he does He's the same
God that can do it for you.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
You are beautiful, You are.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Everything that God says that you are, and I want
you to believe that for yourself. I want you to
see yourself as a marvelous masterpiece. It took me years
to see my worth to know who I am, and
I don't want you to go through years of torture
and pain when you can just see yourself right now

(13:44):
that you are the apple of God's eyes. And I
want you to know that for yourself that I am
your living example. I was the girl who was teased,
who was bully. Girls wanted to fight me in the
school hallways. You know, the enemy wanted to kill me
when I was.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
A little girl. But see guy, that that plan was canceled.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, the plot was canceled because God had a purpose
for me.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
He had a purpose for.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Me, for me to be a beauty queen, for me
to be a role model. So if he did this
for me, he's the same guy that can do it
for you. So I want you to know that you're beautiful,
that you're a marvelous masterpiece, and you are going to
be everything that God has promised you to be.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
So always remember that.

Speaker 6 (14:28):

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yes, I love it. I love it.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Oh my goodness, marvelous Marissa, and I want to tell
I want to talk to the audience so those who
are listening in. I have something in my hand. When
she said yes that she was gonna come on the show,
I was like, let me hurry up and get this book,
because she has two, two books, not one, but two.
So I bought the first one. I'm gonna read through
that and then i'm gonna get the second one. And

(15:34):
it came in literally last night, and I was like,
oh my gosh, I got to interview her tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
So I'm not a quick, fast reader.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
And it's easy to read, and she's explaining her story.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
I mean, it gets down to like the nitty gritty,
but it's just so much that she's talking about that
I know that it's going to.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Truly help and bless so many people, especially young women.
And her first book is from Brokenness to Marvelous. So
I have this in my hand here, and I just
want to can I just read just a paragraph that
from your book? So okay, I'm gonna read the synopsis.
I just thought that this was great. It was it's
kind of something that you just talked about, you know,

(16:10):
encouraging women and young women, and so I just want
to read this and you could speak to this if
you want to. So her synopsis says, to the woman
or girl that's reading this, please forgive yourself. And I
hope I don't cry, because when I was reading this,
I was crying yesterday. So it says, Ah, please forgive
yourself for the bad decisions you've made. If you did

(16:33):
not go through what you've went through, you would not
know what you know. All things work together for good
when you are on the path to your purpose. Lift
your head up and fix Fix your crown that's on
her head right now, Fix your crown. Regardless of what
you experience, you are still a queen and a woman
of God.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Never forget this. You were once broken, but now you
are beautiful.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Go live your marvelous life, amazing, beautiful story.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
When I read that, I was cheery, just like I
am now, because it spoke to me.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
It spoke to the little girl and me, it speaks
to all the children that I see every single day
when I walk into those schools, suffering in silence, and
just people who are suffering.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
And we need more of this.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
And so I don't know if you want to speak
to th synopsis, if you want to share about your book,
I would love for you to talk about both of
your books, because this is the first one and the
second one is your second one is the mask has
been removed, So if you want to talk about that,
your second one, because your first one is it kind
of talking about.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Your story and the second one is going in more
in depth? Is that right? Is that correct?

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Okay, okay, yes, yes, go ahead and share with us
about that. Yes.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Yes, the first book, from Brokenness to Marvelous. Yeah, that
book is really special to me because back in twenty fourteen,
I remember Rashan, Yeah, God puts all my spirit, all
my heart to start writing my book. Yes, And I
remember I was in my apartment by my and I
had my laptop on my lap, and as I was

(18:05):
typing the things that I experienced with childhood, bullying, low
self esteem.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
I talked about the.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Men that degraded me, college hurts, you know, abortion, all
of that. In my first book, I remember how my
heart was so heavy and I felt like I was
about to have a heart attack that I had to
put my laptop down and I just felt so heavy,
and I said, Marissa, you have to release this because

(18:34):
it was just so heavy on me that I felt
like I was about to explode. So writing that book
was therapy for me as I was typing.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
As I was writing, it's like I was constantly crying.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
It's like I was being healed throughout the process, and
that book has touched.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
So many young ladies. So many girls from across the
world had sent.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Me email Sam Marissa, thank you, thank you for your
trans parents, thank you for opening up. I thought that
I thought that the Christian I thought that a lot
of the church people were gonna judge me.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Because I wrote a chapter about abortion, and I thought
that I was going to be judged. I was actually
scared to talk about that.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Yeah, but a lot of women read that chapter and
they said, Marissa, thank.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
You for being honest.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Sank you.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
You know that you forgave yourself, God forget God forgave you.
And I was just it's just, you know, the reviews
really had me in tears. In the second book, Brokenness
to Marvelous, the mask has there removed. One of my
favorite chapters is called plus Size and Media.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
I talked about.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
How difficult it can be being a plus sized woman
pursuing media I used to work at. I used to
work at a syndicated radio station here in Atlanta, and
I remember I had to go on stage to represent
the station and I had over eight thousand views on
Facebook and with final and I went back on Facebook

(20:06):
and read the comments. The comments were a lot of
the people talking about my weight putting me down. You know,
that I was too big to be on stage. Thinks
she is, and that I embarrassed the radio stage.

Speaker 7 (20:21):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Share a lot of my experiences. I remember I auditioned
to be a host for B E T. So you know,
somebody said, do B E T want a plus size host?
You know, it was a lot of the stuff that
I endured while I'm trying to pursue my dreams, right
thinking that he gave me the strength and he has
graced me for this.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
So I'm really going to.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Really going to deeper in my story. And the plus
is the media is my favorite chapter.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (20:52):
And that one is that one in your second book?
That's the second books book. You're okay, okay, So I'm
gonna be checking that out. So you know, so y'all
buy by Marius, buy her books, both of them, because
amazing story. That definitely just talks about her journey and
just sharing her story and how she went you know,
how she has healed from this. So let's talk about

(21:13):
the healing process. So marvelous Marissa, share with us, like,
what did you do to heal from from all of this,
you know, from the bullying as a little child, from
being teased from.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yeah, from all this.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Let us let us know what, what what have you
done for yourself to heal yourself?

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Really healing?

Speaker 4 (21:33):
God's word, my favorite scripture that He created me fearfully
and wonderfully made that scripture readn't have scripture over and
over basically the affirmations looking at myself, you know, fall
in love with me, you know, and just not believe
in the lives of the enemies, and just you know,

(21:55):
I see how strong I am because if a lot
of people would have went through what I went through,
they would have given up.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Even a prophet told me that they would have given up.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
But me just leaning on God, you know, believing what
God told me, looking at myself in the mirror, reaffirm
me to myself what God has promised me, and not
only God, seeing how God has blessed me in the
presence of my enemies.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
That really played the part too, is Rashan, Yes.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
You're right, yes, yeah, right.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Yeah, it's just it's just you know, reaffirming to myself
every day and telling myself who I am in Christ Jesus.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
That has really healed me. And God has healed my
broken heart and I'm no longer I no longer believe
the lies of the enemies.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
And it's like, now I'm shocked because it's like I
once thought I wasn't pretty. I once thought that I
was good enough. But Rashan, this ship well last year
and now this year, I've been on the cover. God
has put me on the cover of four magazines. Wow,
five billboards, And I just found out on Sunday my face,

(23:10):
my face is on Times Square.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
You know, yes, Oh my god?

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Oh you know I was told that I wasn't pretty.
Way don't let you know right there?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
I'm like, if God put me on four covers, yes, and.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
You know in Times Squared, I don't even live in
New York.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
You know in Time that several billboards here in Georgia.
And I'm like, wow, God letting me know right there?
Are you gonna believe me? Or are you gonna believe
what they said about So it's like and then I
was one since speech class. But Rashan, you was there
in the audience when you saw me win and flash.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Hosts of fire.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Yeah, I was speech class.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
My mother used to get a for me. So he's
like I'm like, wow.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
This is incredible, incredible. I mean, look what look what
God has done. Look all the things you have overcome.
I mean, you have the crown on your head, girl,
beautiful crown and the sash.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Show the people you're sad. So do you want to
talk about that?

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Look at her sash, y'all.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Okay, so those who are listening, and she's showing, She's
showing us her sash. She has a beautiful crown on
her head. She is just She's a beauty clean, a
beauty paget. She is marvelous. So all the things that
the world had told her, the children have teased her about,
she is.
