(03:47):

the father of two. He grew up in southern California
and Washington State, respectfully, and received Jesus as his Lord
and Savior at the age of nine nineteen Excuse me.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Hi, how are you doing?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Tom?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Hello, how are you you good?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Doing well? I'm so glad you're able to come on today.
Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
I'm so excited to hear your story here about your
music and all the wonderful things that you're doing.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Thank you, Yeah, thank you for that intro.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yes, yes, absolutely, I was like WHOA when I was
reading this, I was like, yes, go Tom, So, but
tell the audience, tell everyone a little bit about yourself.
I know, I just kind of read your bio a
little bit, but just who you are and just a
little bit where you reside, a little bit about you well, like.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
I said in the bio, I accepted Jesus. My dad
actually prayed with me to receive Jesus when I.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Was nine years old. He had recently.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
I mean not too long before, separated from my mom,
and so he kind of maybe drifted from his face
duringage and then he gravitated back towards it more during
the separation. So he led me in prayer to accept
Jesus just before bed one night. And I started playing.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Guitar when I was ten, so shortly.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Thereafter, my older brother played, my dad played, so I
had both of them like helping me, and just grew
up in a house just filled with music playing all
the time and just scamming on the on the guitars
and and but I had always wanted to write music.

(06:17):
I remember even asking my dad, can you teach me
how to write music? And he was like, it's not
really something I can teach you. It's something you just
have to do. And there there really is some truth
to that, because just suddenly one day I was like
twenty five, I sat down one day and I started
playing my guitar. I started playing these chords, this chord

(06:40):
pattern that I just came up with, and I had
a melt and there I suddenly had like what I
believe was a gift given to me to write music.
So that's when that started. Around was about twenty five,
and I had recently, I think the prior year, joined
my first band, which was like a hard hard rock

(07:00):
Christian band, and I maybe part of what helped.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Me to be able to start writing.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
So I left the band shortly thereafter, and it was
kind of on my own music ministry, and we moved
to Tennessee for the first time in two thousand and
seven and came back after a major car accident and
just because.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
It was so hard without a.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Family down there, so we came, but I ended up
going back. My life kind of.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Fell apart about four years ago. I went through sports
and all that and went back to.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
And interestingly enough, shortly before moving I was baptized in
the Holy Spirit finally, So it was interesting that that
came about right when my life was.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Completely Ah wow, and you just recently just moved back
to Seattle too, right, Yeah, just.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
December twenty third, I moved back so for Christmas I
got to.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Be with my family, so yeah, great, wow.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
So yeah, the last four years in Tennessee and went
through a lot of trials.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yeah, a lot of trumps. You can't explain them all.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
But okay, yeah, I mean, if you, if you want
to share.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Just saw a lot of a lot of like car issues,
like car accidents.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
And oh and.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Like car problems like yeah, cars failing, a lot of
that kind of stuff, and just a lot of financial
But I think I could see that it was meant
to come home now though, so maybe that was part
of it.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah, back here in Seattle, yeah, rainy Seattle.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Well, all this stuff will be clear or something.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Right, right exactly? Yes? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Well, well, Tom, I was listening to your single that
I Have a Future, and.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I was just listening to it and I'm like, oh
my gosh, this is.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
So beautiful, and so I would love for you to
share a little bit about your single I Have a
Future And Joy is it damed Am I seeing her
name right, Okay, Hary is doing the harmonies on it.
A beautiful song, and so can you just tell us
a little bit about that the inspiration behind it, and yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Well I actually wrote that.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
I wrote that with Joy and with my producer whose
name is Cedric Israel.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
So we got together for a co write in down.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
In Tennessee, Okay, And it was in his my producer studio,
and he had the song start. He had this idea
already of us for the song, and it was based
of course on Jeremiah twenty nine to eleven. Okay, the
plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, not
to harm you, to give you a hope in the future.
And it just to fit like my life perfectly.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
And I know a lot of people you know can
relate to it too, right for sure. Wrote this song.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
Maybe about a year later, finally recorded it and I
invited Joy to sing on it with me, which I'm
glad I did because it sounds fantastic and.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah, she did a good job. So it's yeah, it's.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Been great, beautiful song.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Yes, yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
So so tell us a little bit about like when
you write your music, like the process, like do you
have your lyrics first and then produced or like is
it a little combination or you have the production and
then the lyrics, Like tell us a little bit about
your your you can tell us the process of that one,
and also like how you like normally you know.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
The process of your songs, your music.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
I would say, like most of the time through the years,
I come up with chords first. Like that's if you
have taken a test. I don't know if you've taken
one of those tests before of your your specific gift
in songwriting for you know, I can send that to you.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Actually, yeah, cool, okay.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Was mine was chords and structure first, and then second
was melody I.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Believe, Okay, yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Mostly in Gordon's structure.

Speaker 5 (11:32):
So that's usually what I come up with first, is
like the word pattern, and then I come up with
a melody. But I have those really special songs, like
the best ones where it all comes at once, okay, right, chords, melody, lyrics,
all of it just pouring out all at once, and

(11:53):
you're like, where did this come from.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
The best, most amazing song?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Mm hmm. Yeah. That's when you're just like, where did
that all come from? You know?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
That was like God, you know, the Holy SPIRITU. You're like, whoa,
you have the music, you have the lyrics.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
It's just it's like it's already a song.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
So yes, absolutely, yes, yes, well beautiful beautiful. So if
you have not, check out Tom Taylor's single I Have
a Future featuring Joy Dame It's a beautiful worship song,
beautiful harmonies.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Production is beautiful. When I was listening, I'm like, this
is beautiful. So absolutely check out Tom Taylor.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
And he's going to give us more information on how
you know to find him and his socials. He'll give
us that, But I want to talk a little bit about,
you know, as an independent artist, Tom and as a father,
like how do you you know, We're going to talk about,
like how do you maintain you know, your mental health
and just staying grounded and just staying focused, you know,
because we know, as being an independent artist sometimes that

(12:52):
could be it could be it's a lot. You know,
we're doing you know, like you said, we're doing our music,
we're doing the production, we are doing the marketing or everything, right, So, like,
how do you maintain your mental health, your physical health
and just staying grounded?

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Well, I think a big part of that is my friendships,
just like having friends to lean on.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Yeah, you know, of course prayer.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
And yes, you know, with the peace of God. You know,
where where would we be? First of all that, I know,
friends play a huge part. I don't know where i'd
be without without my friends. Support and therapy is important
I will stress that. I definitely I just moved here.
I need I need to find a new therapist. So

(13:37):
I definitely recommend.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Therapy for people.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
Yes, it's important to address your problems and deal with them.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
So yes, absolutely, yes, absolutely, thank you for sharing that
because I think, you know, and I think our society
is getting better, you know when we talk about therapy, right,
you know, I know as a child, when I was younger,
especially in the church community, it was kind of like, oh,
you know, prayer, you know, But like you know, now
that you know, I think we're getting better as a society.

(14:10):
I think we still have a long way to go
to like normalize like therapy. It's okay, right, it's okay
to go to therapy, you know. Like I said in
my last episode, God has placed these amazing professionals, you
know on earth, you know, to help us, you know,
with our feelings and our emotions and how to process
and how to ground ourselves and you know, all these

(14:30):
different strategies and techniques, and so thank you for sharing that,
you know, therapy and how.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
You said you stress that and also just.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Saying like having a community, you know, we know that's
important because when you're isolated and alone that can I know,
like twenty twenty right during the pandemic time, that was
kind of triggering for me and just being alone and
not being out among people and so isolating yourself.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
You're you're in your thoughts, right, You're.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
In your head, You're you're thinking of all the things,
and you're not surrounding yourself with love and with people.
And so that's absolutely like you said, it's super important
to surround yourself with loving, supportive people, not just anybody,
but loving and supporting people for sure.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
So yes, yes, in.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
The Christian world a lot of the time because a
lot of the time, you know, you need to pray more.
You know, you need to your Bible more. You know,
it's like you're not spiritual enough, and that's just not true.
It's like like any other physical condition. Yes, where you need,
where you need you know a physician. So so yeah,

(15:34):
I know that you that you talk about that like
the stigma, yes and all that.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
So yeah, yes, absolutely, And I always say, like ment,
if you're struggling with like depression, on anxiety or any
mental illness, it's like it's an invisible, invisible illness.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
It's not something you see right, Like.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
You see someone with a broken arm or a broken leg,
you see that, but you know, mental illness you don't
see that.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
And so yeah, absolutely, I talk about that all the time.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
There may be people who you think are okay and
they're not because I was so good at like masking
my pain and just like, oh I'm okay, you know,
but but you know, I'm just trying to break that
stigma saying it's okay to not be okay. But we
don't want you to stay there, right, We don't want
you to live there, you know.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yep, absolutely absolutely right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Yeah, Join us or from Weeping to Warrior Igniting Freedom

Speaker 3 (17:05):
So, so we're just kind of talking about, you know,
being an artist and being an independent artist and how
their struggles and the struggle is real, so it can
be real, right, and so we can.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Talk about therapy.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
We talked about surround ourselves with loving, compassionate people, and
so what like, what advice would you give to other
artists out there that might be just struggling with their
mental health and struggling with just just being an independent artist? Like,
what advice would you want to give to independent artists.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Or any artists.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
Well, I know that, you know, being an artist is
a great you know, outlet for your for your emotions
and your feeling. Like that's how I use it, you know,
I pour pour my heart into the songs. And I
think we just need to remember why we're doing it.
You know, if you're a Christian artist, you know we're
doing it like it's for me. It's a calling and

(18:00):
a passion, and I know people have that passion, you know,
and that's why we do it. We kind of get
wrapped up in the numbers of the number of likes
and the number of streams, and that's where we lose
focus and become really disturbed even think about sometimes, and.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
We need to give.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
Back to why why we're doing it and the purpose
of it. Absolutely given a gift, and this is our
gift to share with the world. So whatever capacity God
allows us to do that is just a blessing, whether
it's a smaller skift a larger scale.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
So yeah, absolutely, yes, absolutely, yes, Well, thank you for
sharing that. Well, I would love to hear about your
new single coming up. I see it's called Unsure of Me.
Know us about that and yes, and when is it
coming out?

Speaker 2 (18:57):
When is it dropping?

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Well, actually wrote it with a couple of friends down
in Tennessee. One's name is Hannah McDonald and the other
was Chelse Pracas Smith, and we were kind of just
it's a mainstream it's a mainstream kind of kind of
a heartbreak sort of sort of country, and we were
just kind of discussing. We were kind of getting personal,

(19:20):
you know, discussing like breakups and.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Stuff we've gone through. And so that's that influenced the
lyrics of the song. Okay, And so it's basically, you know,
one person, the person being talked.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
About in the story is kind of half hearted in
the relationship, and you know, the person telling the story
is all in and so that's and you know, that's
where the title Unsure of Me comes from deep you know,
the other person of the relationship and so yeah, it's

(19:55):
pretty cool, awesome.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
So and when's the release date? When is that?

Speaker 5 (20:00):
No release it yet, but I'm okay, it should be
out within the next few weeks.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
So oh okay, so.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Pretty soon, Okay, Oh awesome, Okay, I'll be I will
be looking out for that and I'm sure you'll post it.
I would love to hear that. And yes, so stay
tuned everyone for that as well. Love, I can't wait
to hear that. It sounds sounds great. So and now
tell us about your featured song from the Ashes.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
A little bit about that song.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
Yeah, yeah, from the Ashes. I wrote that with a
friend of mine from Sweden. Her name is Maria Segerholm.
Just an amazing singer, songwriter and artist and I had
connected with her through uh social media and heard her
music and you know, so I wanted to try to
write with her. So I reached out to her and

(20:47):
we set up a co write and you know, we
both had gone through our own share of personal trials.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
I think it was probably her idea to write a
song from the perspective of job from the Old Testament.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Yeah wow.

Speaker 5 (21:04):
So we started doing that, and but of course we
infused our own experiences into it. So it's like this
really powerful song and these are her words. The song
takes the listener from lament to praise. Okay, so it
starts out kind of dark, but you know, it gets

(21:26):
really positive basically you know that God is our only
hope and a refuge. So it's really a pretty amazing,
pretty amazing song that I'm really proud to be a
part of.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
So beautiful, beautiful, wow, Okay, I have to check that out.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
So from from the ashes awesome.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
It's actually part it was actually part of a whole
what she called a lament EP that she put out.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Okay, so they're all.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Like that song because you know, a lot of songs
are our praise and worship are like.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Upbeat and and you know, and.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
She she was saying that there aren't enough songs that
are like, you know, lament, lamenting. You know, like a
lot of the songs are from a lament point of view.
Point of view, yeah, because it's important to not just
you know, the happy, go lucky yes, yeah, right, so

(22:23):
just really raw.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
And honest worship songs and they offer hope.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
So yes, I'm talking about some real stuff. Yes, I
love it, Yes, beautiful, well awesome Tom?

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Well, yes, so well, Tom, would you like to give
any shout outs to anyone and also tell us what
is next for you? I know you told us about
your single, but what if you have any other events
or any other singles or music or anything else. So yeah,
so any shout outs and what's next for you?

Speaker 5 (23:00):
Well, actually, this is the first that people are going
to hear this, but my next will feature a good
friend of mine named Melinda Bly will be I guess
vocalist on there, and featured artists. So okay, I have
It's been kind of a surprise. I haven't announced that yet,
so they're hearing it here first.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Okay, beautiful, that's okay.

Speaker 5 (23:25):
And as far as events, I'm hoping to book some
county fairs this year and possibly festivals, hopefully play some
churches again, and get re established here in the Seattle area.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
So looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yes, yeah, I know.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, you're just moving back, so you're just re establishing
yourself here in Seattle, so.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
All right, Now tell the audience where can we find
out more about Tom Taylor?

(25:03):

Speaker 4 (25:08):
The beach?

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Beach?

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Okay, okay, okay, the beach.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
That's an easy one. Yeah, that's what I kind of thought.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
I was like, probably the beach because most people here
in Seattle, we're surrounded by mountains, right, but it's like
the beach, like, yes, that's pretty much what we would say.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
So yeah, all right, Now this one might be a
little difficult, maybe a tie, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
We'll see, Okay. Would you prefer concert or musicals?

Speaker 4 (25:35):
I'd say a concert concert?

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Okay concert music.

Speaker 5 (25:41):
Musicals are good too, but I'm probably more of a
concert guy.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Concert. Do you know the last person you've seen in concert?
By chance?

Speaker 4 (25:50):
Let me think about that.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
It's not It's okay, I was just seeing if you.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
Well, actually my friend, my friend Melinda, actually saw her
do a Christmas concert, so.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
Okay, around the season time.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Okay, awesome, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
All right.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
The next one is would you prefer chocolate or vanilla?

Speaker 4 (26:13):
Chocolate?

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Chocolate same here.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Yeah, I always yep, yeah, or ice cream?

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, chocolate okay.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
And the last one, would you prefer a home cooked
meal or would you prefer to go out to a restaurant.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
That's kind of.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Tough because you know, I've looked by myself down in
Tennessee for for several years. I've missed, really missed home
cooked meals. Okay, I just some stuff on my own,
but but I really missed really good home cooked meals,
so that's kind of Ay.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
That's a tie. Okay.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
I know I was like that one might be hard
because I was thinking, I was like, I like home
and I like to cook, but then I do like
to go to my restaurant to get my favorite food.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
So okay, yep, the whole experience of going out to
is pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (27:10):

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
