It's the opportunity to go to Charleston. Winner of this
one makes their way down to the capital city coming
up next week and they are waiting to get the brackets. Now,
if you are wondering why we have not been on
the air with this game that should have started a
little while ago, well here's the thing. They had a

power outage here pretty much the entire day in Tucker
County and it took them till about five fifteen. So
kudos to the power company here in the local area
for jumping on it and getting power back as quickly
as they could. Power got restored about five point fifteen,
but they had already moved the game up to eight o'clock.

(01:34):
So Athletic director Aj Rapp said, you know what, we're
gonna leave it at eight o'clock. Teams are on the way,
officials are on their way. Let's get this thing underway.
So it is the one seed Tucker County. They got
here by defeating Harmon last Friday night by a score
of seventy six to eight, and the opponent the four seed,

the Lady Cougars of East Hardy. They got here by
defeating the Lady Bulldogs of Tiger's Valley forty two to
thirty two over in Baker last Friday night. Again, it's
kind of a different bracket than what we've been used
to seeing. So you have the four regions, and in
each region there's anywhere from eight to ten teams, and

then they break it down seed them and so if
it plays out kind of like you think it should,
it'll be the number one seed in the region and
the number two seed in the region with an opportunity
to both make it to Charleston. That is kind of
the way this single a bracket has played out. In
Region one, your four qualifiers are the one, two, three,

and four seed Cameron, Notre Dame, Magnolia, and Trinity. Here.
In Region two it's one, two, three, four Tucker County,
Pendleton County, Pocahontas County, and East Hardy. Region three and
Region four it's the one, two, three five teams battling
it out Tonight, Greenbrier West battling Greater Beckley. They upset

Mount View and number two Webster County battling number three Riverview.
In Region four it is Gilmour County taking on number
five Tulsa and number two tug Valley taking on the
three seed in Wahama. So the teams are out, they
are warming up. Do want to take an opportunity to
say hello to everybody listening over in the Baker area.

I was actually up at the school yesterday for some
business talking with the athletic director, Devin Orndorf, one of
the nicest guys in high school athletics, and he asked
about the live stream for this one, so we provided
the information. Coach Calvin Mongold said that they did share
that information today. So if you are over in the

Welcome back in to Tucker County High School. My name
is Greg White. Excited to bring you this one between
East Hardy and Tucker County, the Lady Cougars and the
Lady Mountain Lions. So I had an opportunity to talk
with head coach Calvin Mongold, just a little bit ago
from East Hardy. And here's his concern, Raven Matthews. He said,

you can't let her have twenty points. You can't let
her have twenty rebounds. What he did say, though, is
he is expecting this Tucker County team maybe to struggle
a little bit. They don't care for that two three
defense that East Hardy runs. It has called some problems
in the past and he expects that to continue. So

(06:08):
he knows he's got to get out in transition. He's
got to do a good job of defending Raven Matthews,
got to play that two to three defense and got
to make good sharp crisp passes because they will get
in the passing lanes for Tucker County and they will
intercept it. Now they are down a player, Xavier Barber,
Young Lady young sophomore, is injured. She will not be

playing tonight. So he's down to seven on his roster,
Brooklyn Miller, Chloe Miller, Brooklyn Tanell, Addison Armatrout, Aubrey cow Gill,
Jaden Gordon, and Jenna Mongold. So you've got some different
players to work with. You don't quite have the depth
for East Hardy that you have for this Tucker County team,

but you play consistently and coach mon Goold thinks today
they will do okay here tonight and they know it
is important. He is a nineteen eighty one graduate of
East Hardy High School. Very proud of this team and
very proud and very excited about the fans support, not
only from the fans that were able to make the trip,
but the fans here tonight that we're not able to

but are listening back at home to our broadcast. So
that's a quick look at East Hardy. They are ten
and eleven on the season, seven and four at home,
three and seven on the road. They score forty two
points a game, They allow forty points a game, twenty
nine rebounds, three blocks, twelve steals, sixteen turnovers. As a team,

they shoot twenty nine percent from the floor, twenty three
percent from three point range, and sixty three percent from
the free throw line. Again, how they got here. They
defeated Tiger's Valley about a couple of nights to go
back on Friday night, forty two to thirty two in
the round one game of the region. So the teams

have gone in, they've come back out. We're still seven
eight minutes away from the tip of the game. We'll

had an opportunity to get a quick interview with head
coach Alicia mchun of Tucker County. We'll hear her thoughts
coming up on ninety four point seven elk.

head coach of the Chucker County Mountain Lions, Alicia mcchun
and we go back to Harmon and let me just say,
I thought it was great sportsmanship, not only by you
and your coaching staff, but your team. They were a
little understaffed and when you guys got out big, you

backed off and that was great, but you still manage
to get a pretty convincing win. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (10:00):
I was really happy with the way that my girls responded.
We had a great week of practice last week and
we started off really hot, and I was happy I
was able to get everyone a ton of playing time.
And you know, those minutes matter this time of year
because you never know who you're gonna need a key
points in the game to give you minutes.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
And that was gonna be my next question. How important
is it because you you know you've got your core starters,
and you know they're in there from the get go.
But then you get in a situation in a tight
game where you need somebody to come off the bench,
whether it be foul trouble injuries. How important are those
minutes in a game like you had Friday night?

Speaker 8 (10:35):
Well, they're very important. You know, we are foul prone
and so we have all year had to go deep
into our bench. And I have a lot of faith,
you know, on those girls sitting on the bench, and
those minutes are important for those kids. Those minutes are
important for development. But there's are minutes are important, you know,
for right now going forward into these playoffs.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
So your first year as a head coach, you know,
this one means more than just about any game this
year so far, because you win this one, you're going
to be in Charleston next week. So where are you
and your coaching staff from the Butterflies level? How nervous
are you about this game?

Speaker 8 (11:10):
Well, it's funny because when I got this job, I
talked to you know, coach Dave Kyle, you know what
I played for there in the nineties, and he said,
you know, my goodness, they've won a lot of years
in a row. He said, that's a lot of pressure,
and it is a lot of pressure. But you know,
I'm confident in my kids, and no matter what happens,
I'm confident in what they've achieved this year, and I'm
confident in their growth. And so, you know, it's always

(11:31):
nice to come out with a victory, but you know,
win or lose, I'm proud of the team.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
You know, you've got a lot of upper class classmen
on your team, you know, Raven Matthews, the list goes
on and on, and they've been in this situation before.
So what's your sense of the team's mood right now?

Speaker 8 (11:48):
Oh, I'll tell you what. We've had the best two
weeks of well week and a half of practice that
we had all year, and so I'm really happy with
where we're at, conditioning wise, where we're at as far
as offense and defense, and i couldn't be any more
pleased with how we're coming together at the end of
the season.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
You've seen this East Hardy team a couple of times.
First game, a little close, second game, pretty big margin
of victory. So what do you expect to see out
of the Cougars.

Speaker 8 (12:12):
You know they've got two really key offensive players that
contribute about seventy five percent of their offensive. So, of
course defensively when we want to key on those two girls.
You know, when they're on defense, they're very active, they
run the two three, they're very active with their hands.
They deflect a lot of passes, and they look to
go and they rebound really well. And so our key
is that we've got to number one, shut down number

three and four on offense. Number two, we've got to
pass well and move the ball better on when we're
on defense, we've got to shut down three and four.
But we have got to pass the ball well on offense,
you know, and look for ball reversals.

A Region two qualifier game. Winner of this one makes
their way to the Charleston Coliseum where we will have

complete coverage of the state high school basketball tournament girls
and boys on our sister station twelve forty AM and
ninety nine point nine FMWD and E. The first game
gets underway at nine to thirty next Tuesday morning, and
then you'll have let's see six eight games a day,

(14:53):
six games a day, Yeah, six games a day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday, and then of course the championship game next
Ye Saturday for the girls four championship games there, and
then the following week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday for all
the six games a day with the boys high school championship. Again,

all those games on twelve forty AM and ninety nine
point nine FMWD and E. Speaking of that, there is
a game right now, the Philip Barbara Lady Colts battling Petersburg.
That game on WD and EAM. It is a late
start here tonight. In case you missed the opening segment
of the pregame show, they had a pretty big power outage.

Some strong wins here in the Tucker County area knocked
a bunch of trees down and then affected power. They
were out of power from about eleven o'clock this morning
until about five o'clock this afternoon when the power company
jumped on it and they were able to get things
done and get it back on, but we had already

adjusted things for a late so we are tipping it
off at eight o'clock. It has not affected the crowd again,
a packed house here our broadcast location. We are at
the end of the court, just off the baseline in
the corner. The stands to our left absolutely packed with
Tucker County fans. Across the way, three quarters of the

beach bleachers packed with Tucker County fans, about one quarter
of East Hardy fans. So we appreciate those folks making

at all for this East hardy team. To go in

Now here is a quickerly shot up. It is no
good bye, Brooklyn Miller. Rebound pulled down and controlled by
Tucker County Mountain Lions into the front court. Stolen away.
They stepped in front of the pass. Chloe Miller drives down,
shot up, No two strong, rebound back up and in
from Brooklyn Tonell. We're tied. Tucker County trying to work

Raven Matthews now has it deep right corners. She's gonna
fire up a three too strong off the side of
the iron. No good for Matthews. Rebound pulled down by

left side. They go to Brooklyn Miller looking top of
