of this one is on their way to the Charleston
Coliseum next week for the state boys high school basketball championships.
The loser of this one packs it up and I
guess gets ready for baseball or track and field or
whatever sport that they play in the spring. But we

the two seed Cougars of East Hardy and the three
seed the Tigers Valley Bulldogs. East Hardy got here by
defeating Pocahontas County last Friday night ninety two to thirty three.
Tigers Valley gets here by defeating Paul Paul last Friday

night by a score of seventy eight to sixty. So
this is it. You play all season long, twenty one
twenty two games, twenty three games in some places to
get you ready for a chance and the opportunity to
represent your school at the state tournament in Charleston. I

bus and cars have made their way up from Mill
Creek and surrounding areas. A lot of red in the crowd,

County visiting Tucker County and the other Class Single A
Section two championship game. So the top four seeds are
battling to make it to Charleston, number one versus number

the same time hours tips off here at seven o'clock
by the way, in case you missed it earlier today,
first round of the Big twelve Tournament for the West
Virginia Mountaineers and they are one and done they had

a seven point lead in the first half, and things
turned around in the second half and ultimately Colorado defeated
the West Virginia Mountaineers this afternoon by a score of
sixty seven to sixty So the Mountaineers are out of
the Big twelve tournament. Now it is just a matter
of finding out if they're going to make the Big

Dance and if so, where are they going to be.
So the teams are out warming up. Our broadcast location,
we are at the end of the court, kind of
in the corner, but that's okay. It's a great vantage point.

but those kids stayed right with us. And every time
we build up a lead and back off, but they
were digging right back.

So I was very impressed by their effort.

You know, we have been since early February kind of
dealing with an injury on Kate and Moore, and looks
like he's going to get the start tonight. How vital
is it not only for his play but his leadership
out on the court.

Well, that's exactly right, and that's one of the biggest
reasons he's starting. You know, we just we miss him
being out on the court directing things and give us
that shot of confidence. So he's still not fully in shape.
We'll probably have to sub several times for him, but
we just need his head out there as much as anything.

You know, it's a little bit of a long bus
ride up here. I know it took a while to
get up here, even longer in a bus. Do you
expect any I guess physical lag out of the team
after sitting on a bus for a couple hours.

We're pretty used to it.

And the nice thing about this bus ride for the
most part is straight. There's not a lot of curves
and you're not fighting centrifugal force every time you turn around.

So I think we'll be okay with that.

You've seen this East Hardy team twice now they got
you if I remember right by the exact same score
both times lost up here in overtime, lost at home
a couple of weeks ago. So what's the game plan?
How do you slow these guys down?

We think we do a pretty good job of slowing
them down.

Well, we've had a tough time scoring on them, and
you know, we just hope we do a better job
offensively and cut out the big quarters or the quarters
where we don't score, and that's been the key for us.

there are several ways to get here if you've never
been to Baker. The way I always come up depends
on how you want to go. But I go over
to Parsons and up the Mountain Pass Tucker County High
School into Thomas. Then you get on Interstate forty eight,

which is I guess what they call Corridor H. You're
on that one going east for about an hour ten
to fifteen minutes. You go past Mount Storm, you go
past the exit to Moorfield, and then you get off
with the Baker exit and just a couple of miles

(12:45):
off the Baker exit. Here we go. We are at
East Hardy High School. Took about two hours to get
up here from the Elkins area, and we are ready.
We are excited, and we've got a full house here
tonight as we are getting ready for this Region two
co championship game. The winner advances to Charleston. Let's take

(13:08):
a look at the two teams. First of all, the
home team, the Cougars of East Hardy under head coach
Chris Hahn. They are eighteen and five on the season,
ten and two here in their friendly home gym. Their losses, well,

(13:28):
they haven't had a whole lot of them, only five.
They lost to a school card called Armstrong, They lost
to a school car to Herford. They lost at Tucker
County and then hear home against Tucker County, and then
they had a three point loss to Petersburg back on
January thirty. First. Other than that, their record looks pretty good.

They have beaten Pendleton County a couple of times, Pocahontas
County a couple of times. They've beaten Paul Paul and Harmon.
They've beaten this Tiger's Valley team twice by the same
score both times fifty six to forty seven. They beat
Northern Garrett, Maryland Clay Bettel. The list goes on and on.
They are a very good team, and as we mentioned earlier,

they got to this round of the tournament by defeating
Pocahontas County here last Friday night by a score of
ninety two to thirty three. We have seen these Cougars
a couple of times. We've seen them at Tigerts Valley
and then we had the Lady Cougars down at Tucker

County broadcast them last week. So it is a pretty
talented team here at East Hardy. For Tigers Valley they
are the three seed at thirteen and nine under head
coach Tom Walmsley. Buck Cecil Mike Depascal are the assistant
coaches for Tigers Valley. They average fifty eight points a game,

as opposed to sixty two for EA East Hardy. Tiger's
Valley pulls down twenty eight rebounds. They have two blocks,
seven steals, thirteen turnovers a game. As a team, they
shoot forty one percent from the floor, twenty nine percent
from three point range, and sixty eight percent at the
free throw line. Tigers Valley's losses have come twice to

Tucker County, twice to East Hardy. They dropped a tough
one to Clay Bettel. They split with Notre Dame, lost
to Doddridge County and a loss on the road at
Petersburg and then at South Harrison. So six and five
at home, seven and four on the road for this
Bulldogs team. Uh. They have defeated Pendleton County, Harmon a

couple of times, Union a couple of times. They defeated
Trinity Christian and Clay Bettel.
