Speaker 1 (00:01):
Now the latest from the whby Omni Glass and Paine
News Center.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good morning, it's thirty seven degrees at five oh four.
I'm landed more. Because the NFL Draft is not a
ticketed event, it's not easy to determine just how many
people will be coming to Green Bay this week. NFL
Director of Events Nikki Ewele says they have a good
idea what attendants will be, but you can't share that now.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
We have an indication. Yes, certainly, the reaction in the
community statewide, but also within those drivable markets has been
really strong. So we do have a number. Our commissioner
likes to declare that number from the podium usually Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, so I don't want to undercut him.
He's my boss.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
So initial estimates put the expected draft attendance at two
hundred to two hundred and fifty thousand fans. Green Bay
Police will be stretched thin this week, providing much of
the security service at the NFL Draft campus. Chief Chris
Davis says the manpower needed to staff the draft will
not affect regular patrols and call response in the rest
of the city.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
This event will use a lot of our resource and
will be stretched a little bit, but we have a
plan to add to staffing and patrol so that we
can respond to any increased demand for service. I know
we've been working very closely, especially with the sheriff on
emergency coverage.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Brown County law enforcement agencies estimate providing coverage at the
draft will cost one point twenty five million dollars. The
State Division of Consumer Protection is warning NFL Draft attendees
to be on the lookout for parking scams this week.
Most of the vehicles around the Landbewfield area this week
will be parked in private lots or long neighborhood streets.
Consumer Protection says one common scam includes people collecting money

(01:36):
to park on property they don't own or have permission
to sell parking. Another scam is to issue fake parking
tickets to people on the streets, demanding payment through a
link to a scam website. Those parking are also warned
not to scan QR codes they may see on polls
or polls that claim to allow for online parking payments,
as those will also collect you connect you to a
scam website. School districts around the Green Bay area are

(01:59):
just their schedules this week in light of the NFL draft.
Green Bay Area public will be closed today through Friday,
while Schwabinon will release students early this afternoon before closing
Thursday and Friday. The Unified School District of de Peer
will be closed on Friday well. Howard Swamaca will have
an early release that day. At the Capitol, lawmakers are
sparring over a rule on election observers. It's been months

(02:20):
in the making by a twenty four member advisory committee
to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. This week, Joint Committee for
Review of Administrative Rules Chair Representative Adam Naylan was not
happy that no lawmakers were involved.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I feel a little bit like you didn't even try here.
You didn't even try to do legislation. You're choosing a
rule and then telling us this is we can't even
work with you guys, this is what we got to do.
And I find that a little bit insult.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Don Millis is a Republican appointee to the commission. No
slight was intended, sure, but you know, if there's a fault,
I suppose for not making an overchurch with legislators, it
would be me. The committee can't approve, suspend or modify
the rule package. Represent Coerative Scott Kruge is working on
legislation to implement the rule changes, along with penalties for

(03:04):
local election officials. A portion of Racine Street in downtown
Minasha is closed to traffic. Crews are installing new storm
sewers Underraccene between Ninth and Third Streets. Traffic is being
detoured using Tago Street. The project should wrap up by
the end of October. Those already in the Fox Cities
for the NFL Draft can get a little taste of
the Mile of Music Tonight. Song Walk will see bands

(03:26):
perform at six venues around Appleton. Mile of Music founder
Dave Williams Hope's visitors gain an appreciation for the local
music scene.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
But I have something on Wednesday night that those folks
have a chance to go to as well as our
local community, a chance for our local community to kind
of celebrate in a small way, the fact that the
draft is going to be such a big thing up
in Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
You could find the line of four Songwalk on the
Mile of Music website.
