Speaker 1 (00:21):
Coming out the bye week home game.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm just mark it's a w just because we better
be Atlanta is at home.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Is at home, it's after the bye week. But let's
also do this fairwise. Do you believe Atlanta got better
in the offseason?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Let me look, let me look at that depth.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
What they basically did is they put a lot of
new young guys on defense. Right, They've already got a
great running back combo. I mean, I love the running
back combo. They have a solid offensive line, right, they
have allid the receiving group, especially if you're including.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Kyle Pitts there.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Kyle Pitts is just really can he stay healthy? Defense
is more of, Hey, what's Jalen Walker going to look like?
What's James Pierce going to look like? What's Xavier Watt's
going to look like? You know, it's a j Terrell
still got enough here as he's getting to the second part.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Of his career.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And what's Raheem Morris going to be able to run
ken Raheem Morris overcome you know, years of essentially being
seen as a mediocre guy. But I mean, I think
that they're a stout team. I don't necessarily say and
they're a good team, but.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
They invested. They invested a lot in Edge, mostly because
they needed to. And yet and you know, they did
a good job with doing it in the draft, and
you know, kind of getting Lenard Floyd. They're kind of
you know, deep route. And yet sometimes I feel like

(01:58):
edge is so overrated when those guys don't affect plays
in the run game. It's to me, I feel like,
sometimes it's a position where you know, a guy can
play fifty snaps and if he gets one sack a
game and does that for seventeen games in seventeen sacks,
but then if you go game by game, you're like,
already got one sack, and then you look at the

(02:19):
other forty eight players or whatever, and there's no impact
being made outside.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Of The Saints were willing to let Trey Henderson go.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Listen, and people didn't like that. I said that about like,
I completely understand why the Bengals are unwilling to pay
Trey Henderson elite pass rusher elite, but he does not
affect the game in its totality. Outside of that, he's
never had over fifty tackles in the seas. I don't

(02:50):
think he's even had over forty tackles, and if he did,
it's maybe only been once. He is not a all
around defensive player, despite being an elite edge.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Rusher, and so I hope people know we are not
talking bad about him. And the guy had thirty six
QB hits last year. But he's a very one dimensional player.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
It's it's only one side to one facet. And I
prefer my if I'm gonna spend high high dollars on
a defensive player, I want him to affect multiple facets
of the game.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Mate, so good, I'm gonna pick a singular season of
a Hall of Famer here. But Randy Moss was always
Randy Moss, right, But Randy Moss also cared a lot
less when he was with the Raiders. The only things
that you saw him do there was a few huge
home run balls. Now when he went to New England,
everything he became that well rounded guy again. But for

(03:43):
whatever reasons, there's a lot of context in that. When
he was with the Raiders, he was very med right,
and he had a he just did one thing, run deep,
catch football scorer. That's about all he did. That's kind
of what Tray Henderson is. He's very one dimensional. He
is not a good inn on line of scrimmage to
contain the run. He's not a consistent three down guy.

(04:04):
And I'm saying this about an All Pro Pro Bowl player.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Who I would love to still be in New Orleans Like.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
I don't take that as a negative, but I get
why you don't make him the highest paid player at
his position. Right the seventeen and a half sacks he's
gotten both last year and the year before, did that.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Help them take down Kansas City?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
The answer is no, and it hasn't. No, it hasn't. Listen,
I'm still gonna sell a W here. The reason I'm
gonna say a w here because, at least for me,
this is a big test of the two biggest issues.
At least one of the biggest issues you had last years.
You couldn't stop the run. This new defensive scheme, the
way they play it, it's supposed to make it easier
to stop the run while still keeping a good amount

(04:46):
of players in coverage based on the the alignment that
they run. If there's a game that's gonna test can
you stop the run like you think you You know
you're building yourself to be able to stop the run.
It's going to be this one. And then on the
flip side, I'm looking at it. Can the falcon stop
the run? And I see a lot of I see

(05:09):
some impressive pieces in place to maybe help rush the passer,
but I don't see a lot of depth on the
defensive line as far as like if you're gonna have
David on your mouth at his age, still playing like
a lot of snaps. You've got Morgan Fox, Contavir Street.
There you have who was there last year's pick but

(05:31):
wasn't elite talent by standard. It's can they stop the run?
And it's head home. I'm still gonna take this as
a W. I'm gonna say they they figure out how
to stop the run a little bit better. Poenix is
you know, he's he hasn't proven yet. Can he, you know,
put a game on his on his shoulders and win
it if you can take Behind out of it, Tyler

(05:52):
out of it, keep them out of it, and keep
the ball in poenix hands. Even if he does beat you,
at least you give yourself a chance. And that with
playing home, W, I'm gonna take a W. I'll go
on the limpit.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
This is always this is exactly one of those games
that I always say, hey, our quarterback wins this one,
because I don't know about our quarterback yet. It's too
close for me, so I'm giving it an L. But
I'm okay with your logic.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Like moving on to the next one.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Miami Dolphins again, other teams that I feel like, if
I have to pick a team that's regressing, it's Miami.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Think this is a winnable game. I'm not saying we're
gonna win, but I think it's winnable. What do you think.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I'm gonna take the win? I look at my line
of scrimmage. This is a line of scrimmage game. We
can beat them on both sides of line of scrimmage.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
That's like Miami's defense.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
They lost Armstead and I'm speaking more about the officers
line for Miami. That's aig. They lost Armstead and that
was a big piece when he when he came in,
that was a big part of them signing. They lose Armstead,
and I think Cheetah is regressing as a receiver a
little bit. I love the quarterback there. His ability to

(07:04):
throw an anticipation a lot of the plays that that
offense makes it. It makes because Toua has an ability
to anticipate throws. I like that especially versus I defense.
I secondary in particular that we don't know what we're
getting to this point. If you can add in a sciente.
Samuel at some point, wonderful. If you don't, it is
a questionable secondary. And so I can see them putting

(07:26):
pressure on us there, But line of scrimmage wise, I
think we can beat them on the line of scrimmage
and give two us some problem.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
I like it, Okay, I mean Tyreek Hill agree, he's
thirty one. I mean he just came off a season
no thousand yards, only six CDs, lis amounts his rookie year.
And this is just the sad truth of the game.
You get older, you're not what you once were. He's
no longer a cheetah, right, He's just not I think
he's still probably like a leopard, like he's real.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
He's good. Wow.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
No longer at cheatah. Right, He's just not that guy anymore,
is what it is. I still don't necessarily know if
we can win. Here's what makes us a win for me?
If their defense can't get to whoever our quarterback is
last year, Miami only had thirty five sacks the entire team.

(08:15):
That's less the New Orleans and everybody who watched the
Saints said that our offensive arms, sorry, our defensive output
was trash in terms of pressures everything, they only had
thirty five. The only change really is Kenneth Grant coming
in a rookie, rookie out of Michigan. Do you think
that he's going to pump that number up above forty?
I don't really know, not to Mitch. You have two

(08:38):
uti two free agent pickups who are probably going to
end up starting at safety, like both their safeties are
different this year.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
And then you've got Jalen Ramsey, who again talking about guys,
yeah may not be on a team. Yeah, may not
be on a team.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
And even if he is, is like what thirty three now,
So they're another team that I can see is at
the point where they're regressing more than their going on
the upside of things. And hey, look what happens when
you have to sign big contracts. You got like a
real small two three year window. If you don't capitalize there,
you're never gonna capitalize. I think it's a winnable game

(09:11):
because it's an away game. I'm gonna ride it as
an l Let's be honest. I think young teams play
better at home than they play on the road. I
still think it's a winnable game, though, I don't think
this is an insurmountable game where we get blown out
forty two to seventeen.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
So what's still on this I'm gonna go. I'm gonna
go a win. I can see two wins coming out
of the Bay. Well then after now we now we
Tampa Bay and now.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
You're in Tampa, and this is by now you should
know who Tampa is, like is Tampa for real?

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Is Tampa?

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Because we're what we're talking about about. We twelve, now
we're thirteen. You probably can see if Tampa's already won
the division by now, because by my record, I've got
the Saints at five and eight, right, your record, I
think you've got.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Them at six and seven now, right, you keep it
tracking it So either way, we're not leading the division.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Even if we are potentially in contention, Tampa at this
point could have locked it, assuming they don't lose out
their last two months. If Tampa at this point is
similar to our record, this is a very winnable game.
If Tampa at this point is something like ten and three,
nine and four.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
They're gonna win easy. Bridge bends on how Tampa comes out.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
You know. Interestingly, put here's a funny thing. I recall
Baker Mayfield having this thing where he'd have a good season,
then a regression. Good season, then a regression. I wonder
if this is the year you get a little bit
of a regression from Mayfield because a lot of the success.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
He had forty touchdowns last year, like it's he's the
first time he ever did that. He only threw like
twenty something, and then last year throws forty. You're right,
I don't see him throwing forty touchdowns again.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Did he not lose his didn't he lose his OC?

Speaker 3 (11:07):
So his OC this year is let me double check
it because I don't want to uh give an incorrect
Their OC this year is.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I feel like last year he went to Jacksonville. So
for me, I see a regression in their ability to
put up points this year. Defensively, I mean it's a
defensive head coach. You would expect them to at least
either get better or at least stay baseline where they are,
but expecting to see an offensive regression I think is

(11:42):
probably solid logic here, specifically towards the quarterback position in Baker,
is he working with the same guy working with a
different guy? Do they mesh if you if we've come
that close to splitting with him, the record over the
last eight games is you know, five and three, you're
looking at a split this year. You gave him October's

(12:04):
win out oct You gave him a win in October, So.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Well, then you come home Carolina. I'll be honest, I
don't believe in Carolina. I believe the Saints could still
lose more games they win and sweep Carolina.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
I think you we shouldn't have lost to Carolina last year.
She's widening this out and got fired. You should you
should be able to beat Carolina soundly here at home.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Next up New York Jets, and I'm gonna be honest,
I honestly don't know.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
You don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I don't know because New York Jets are so freaking
new man.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Everybody's new. And I'll be honest.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
I love Aaron Glenn like I want to believe in
Aaron Glenn. I think Steve Wilks is a solid number two.
Chris Banjo By the way, yes, that Chris Banjo is
their special teams coordinator.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Shout out Chris Banjo.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
At the amount of Sean Payton Tree that's made it
out into the NFL in only like three or four
years is insane.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
But I think Justin Fields has.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Always needed somebody to really tailor around him and build
around him.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Could he look interesting?

Speaker 3 (13:21):
I don't know, but I will tell you I like
what they've been trying to do, rebuild. I love that
they're not doing the stupid Aaron Rodgers experiment anymore.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
I think I see them the same way I see
New Orleans. They added a lot of young talent. They
added a brand new coaching staff that I love the
names of, but you have no idea if it's going
to work. That's how I see the Jets. I see
them just the same way I see New Orleans. I
like the coaching staff. I like some of the moves
they're making to try to find their guy. Would I

(13:53):
like them to have you know, Chuck and Rattler over
Justin Fields? Maybe, But look the same thing about Justin
In Fields and say about other guys. You know, yeah,
he's bounced around and yeah, he's disappointed, but the talent
is undeniable in justin fields, right, Like he's a first round,
eleventh overall pick for a reason. And I want to

(14:15):
be clear, even though I don't think he's a great player,
when he was with Chicago, he was never a bad player.
And I know that's gonna make a lot of people
mad in Chicago. But not a single season as a
full time starter we played the whole season, did he
throw more interceptions and touchdowns?

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Right? His career quarterback rating is eighty four.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
That's not phenomenal, but that's solid, right, And I think
that he's a guy that can make plays sometimes it
Jakes had changed the scenery, and well, who we talked
about previously is a great example that Gino Smith needed
to change the scenery and somebody to believe in him,
and it worked, right. Chicago basically just tried to run

(14:57):
justin fields as a quarterback playing in college still and
it never really worked. And he still finished ninth in
MVP voting back in twenty twenty two, if you remember.
So that's how I see New York. New York is
the same thing New Orleans is trying to do. I
like the coaching staff they put together, they very well
might be a team that is in a similar pathway

(15:18):
to us, meaning it's a winner, a win or a
loss either way, I.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Think our staff is better at this point. I'm looking
at you know, he tabbed the he tabbed Detroit's what
was he passing game coordinative to come over with him?
And kind of the question is can he recreate the
Ben Johnson magic? And we've seen, you know, a lot
of a lot of times when guys go on to

(15:46):
run their own scheme, specifically offensively, a lot of times
they don't have the success that you would expect them
to have. And he's looking to duplicate what he had.
And I think the problem with what Dan Campbell did
with Detroit and that staff was very very unique. It

(16:09):
was a staff that was littered with former players as coaches,
and it was meant to be gritty, right you try.
He wanted to He wants to duplicate that, and you
see Ben Johnson doing the exact same thing, wanting to
duplicate that. But can you duplicate that? And what are

(16:29):
the odds that you can? I see how he wants
to build it, but sometimes those things are very unique
in that it's like lightning in the bottle. You catch
it and it happens, but thinking it's just that easy
to do it, and you like it's a specific formula.
I think that's a formula that worked for Dan Campbell.

(16:49):
I don't know if that formula is gonna work consistently.
And so I'm looking at their offensive play caller versus
our former head coach on defense, and then I'm looking
at the defensive play call of versus killing Moore on offense.
I give the edge to US coaching staff wise, and
it would say this at home.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
I agree because obviously I'd rather have kill him more
than Tanner extra. However, Tanner was also the co offensive
coordinator for the San Diego Chargers back in twenty eleven
twenty twelve, back when Philip Rivers was still there. They
did quite well. So it's not his first stint, is
what I'm saying. And he's got a little bit of
a history of success, just not high end success, like

(17:33):
not elite success.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
So yeah, I think he's a maybe.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
It's it's enough for me to think and look man,
for you poor Jets fans who might happen to stumble
across this I'd hate to have to y'all to live
in purgatory forever.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Do I think the Saints can win this game.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Absolutely, But I am saying every year a team gets better,
every year a team gets worse. Don't sleep on the
New York Jets.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
I can agree with that, all right, Still taking it
as a win.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Sure, well, if you are right by the way, that
moves us to eight and eight, And we've got the
Tennessee Titans and the Atlanta Falcons left and Tennessee if
somebody believes in them, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
I didn't meet any of.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Them in Nashville when I was there.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
And the Falcons, I'm always going to pick us against
the Falcons because I hate them. So by that logic,
I've just said, we're going ten and six right into
the bank.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Get your checks ready, about to make a lot of money.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
But Tennessee Titans, what do you think when you look
at their depth chart, when you look at what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Another team that is just covered in new starters.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Yeah, I don't let me. Let me look through this.
I'm gonna at this point, you're probably gonna see Rickey
quarterback versus rickyd quarterback. Right, most of the yes, most likely.
And at that point I'm looking at you know, it's
cam war you got Tony Pollitt, You've got trey Lin Burt.
That offensive line should be put together a lot better

(19:04):
than it was last year. They moved Jason.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Detroit.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
That's on yep, yep. They have petern Sky over the
left guard. The defenses though lost some pieces now to
and Dre Sweat played well as rookie Jeffers Simmons is
still there. Draymond Jones that linebacker, nothing scares me. Kind
of on the second level. Secondary that say that's in

(19:33):
their stadium, rookie quarterback, who's that? Who's their coach? Who's
the Brian Callahan offensive minded? Can we score? Can we
score more points than them? The answer to that for
me at this point when I look at you know

(19:55):
what they have, potentially, I think we can score more points.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Than because Brian Callahan he was the OC for Sincy
basically all of Joe Burrow's career. And even though I
like cam Ward, cam Ward's not Joe Burrow, and I'm
very curious how he adapts to cam Ward. We'll see
how it goes. I will say this about Tennessee so far,
though they were definitely worse than US as evidenced by

(20:21):
their and I don't think that they can get that
much better in one year. I think that's a process.
So I think the Saints can win this game. I
really do. And like I said, I'm not going to
pick us to lose to Atlanta because I hate them.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
So yeah, well nine.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Eight.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
So here's the question, can nine and eight when you
the division? And I think nine and eight.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I think it can.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I think still even for those who've made it through
these like I feel like we've gone more in depth
than a lot of others have about the schedule. And
it's in May, so it's way too early. I really
want to reemphasize that it's too early. But man, nine
wins is a lot for me on this team, Like.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
It's not for me. That's that's what's interesting. Like I said,
last year's team, to me, outside of those injuries, we're
not as bad as watching the team get you know,
down to its second string quarterback, it's fourth running back,
it's sixth receiver. You know. I h the team wasn't

(21:37):
as bad as the record. Yes you are what your
record says you, but as far as like production, wise,
if you don't have the number of injuries last year,
you're looking at this being like a borderline nine win
team just as like a baseline last year, better health,
improved offensive line, improved offensive staff. Can you score more

(22:01):
points that? I think the biggest thing is the difference
is can you score more points? This year? We thought that, Hey,
Dennis Allen is there. That's a baked in top you know,
five to ten defense, baked in automatically. Can you get
up to like twenty one points twenty two points per game?
We finished last year I think right under twenty one points,

(22:22):
but then the defense regressed just enough that that wasn't
enough on top of the injuries that you had. So
now you're counting on a new scheme. You're probably gonna
play more zone. Maybe you get more turned because more
eyes are on the ball. To me, baseline, this is

(22:43):
a team like flat if they go you know, no injuries.
This is a team that could win seven games to me,
no injuries and that And listen, that was a team
last year that had Rattler, that went zero wins with Ratler,
but also was the same team that took the Washington
to Cahuba Hots all the way to the final player

(23:04):
two point version. So this isn't This team isn't void
of talent. This isn't a team that was void of talent. Again,
maybe the coaching staff didn't get the most out of it,
but it was a top heavy team. It suffered a
lot of injuries. They didn't have a middle class. They
added a middle class. They were still that good EPA
defensively and offensively with Rattler at quarterbacks. So if Ratler

(23:28):
only takes a significant step, or if Shuck can beat
out Rattler, you at least borderline looking at the same
team as last year, but maybe slightly better. Anyway, then
all you're just relying on is can you get some
injury love? So to me, nine and eight seems like
a good spot for what I would predict just from
a seven wins flat. Can they get to nine to ten?

(23:50):
I think so? But can nine and eight win a division?
I think this is a very winnable division.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Well that's I still think think our division is the
worst in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
So it is.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
That means it's why it's.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
The voting, because remember the owners meeting is coming up,
and they're voting on whether winning the division should even matter.
So well, I have to have another episode where we
talk about that when they're done.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
With the voting.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Yeah, so, because at that point, if you're just going
to say when the division doesn't matter, we'll now we
shouldn't have to play those teams all the time. And
for those who can't tell, I'm vehemently against. I think
division plays should matter. I think playing those teams should.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Matter, but that it does still matter, it just doesn't
get you the playoffs seating. You still need to win
your division. That your road to the playoffs is still
through your division. That doesn't change. It's just that the
seating changes to where it's not the division winner, it's

(24:58):
whoever wants to playoff start, it's whoever had the best record,
which so it really only changes the start of the playoffs,
not how you get too.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
It's true, but I think it takes a lot of
the value away from it.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Like, uh, that's just me, and maybe I'm too much
more traditionalist here, but I think division titles should matter,
and I think division titles should have an extra weight
to them.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
That's just me.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
But again, well we'll talk about that when that actually
comes around.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Because they know it's gonna be a good conversation to have.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
So yeah, So nine and eight new staff, I mean
that would be considered a I mean, it's a winning season.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
I think.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
I think if this team goes nine and eight, after
dealing with Dennis Allen, they're going to have a parade
for Kellen Moore. Then you don't have to make the playoffs.
If they go nine and eight, Kellen Moore is getting
a parade.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
It's a winning season. It'd be the first winning season
in the last three four years. So I mean that
that would be considered a success. And considering you know,
you're thinking that you're going to have Derek Carr's quarterback
to start the season, You're maybe looking at this being
a little bit more stable if Kellen Moore can make
magic like that in his first year, when the things

(26:13):
don't have a ton of money to spend, they didn't,
you know, make any big moves in the draft. They
kind of just sat patient and waited. It was always
going to be a two for me to rebuild this
team in Kellen Moore's likeness. It was always going to
be a two year process. I think I talked about
it before when I said when Sean Payton first came
in his first year, he added almost thirty five new

(26:36):
players to the team, so he was able to kind
of remake it through the draft, trades and free agency
as far as acquiring players. Not able to quite do that.
Probably would have to do half of that kelling Moore's
first year. So probably like fifteen sixteen new players this year,
maybe fifteen sixteen new players next year. But if you

(26:57):
can do that and he's able to carry over from
and kind of pick up where the other staff may
have dropped the ball and to carry it and not
have it fully in his image, I mean, that's that's
a big That's kind of a nice thing going in
for a first year a head coach who you kind
of weren't sure about. That would be a success for me.
Now if they make the playoffs even bigger and but

(27:22):
I think they can just because of the division. It's
can Kellen Moore get this quarterback situation? And we talked
about it at the beginning. I think he can. He's
the talker right now is the veteran quarterback situation. But
I pointed out that not only did he develop Dak
Prescott in Dallas, but the following year Dak Prescott's backup

(27:44):
was Cooper Rush, who was his first year and so
there was no veteran quarterback. He pretty much developed Cooper
Rush and he developed Dak Prescott Dak Prescott, and so
I don't think there needs to be a rush to
a veteran quarterback unless Chuck our Rattler show that they
are new developing properly. But again, four former quarterbacks in

(28:05):
the room, quarterback friendly scheme, a quarterback friendly head coach,
I think it'll be almost I think it's almost suspect
to think that they won't develop properly. So if you
can get whoever it needs to be out on the
field and you can kind of figure that out as
early and then tailor the scheme. I do have confidence
in Kellen Moore's ability to navigate an offense, especially if

(28:28):
he has the offensive line to do it. So what
do you check this out? The trade? The trade talk
