Speaker 1 (00:27):
Who that? Everybody second? We ball three in a row.
Your New Orleans Saints are the hottest thing on the
market right now. And if you ain't excited, I don't
know what to tell you. Spencer Ralli didn't do it.
Dad Carr didn't do it. Trevor Sibbion didn't do it.
Tyler Shuck did da? What did he do?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Your New Orleans says So now.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Five games in the w column with three big ones
going back to back to back, and you might be
like red, why are you excited? You ain't going to
the playoffs? Baby?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Because they got good football?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Who that to you?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
God blessed, welcome in Hope.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
You are having an amazing time as Saints fans, because
how can you not be happy you had a quarterback
throw for their over three hundred yards. I'll be honest,
he should have had two tds. They caught him back Simpkins,
stop holding the damn guy. I know your backup quarterback.
I'm sorry, your backup guard number eighty seven quick So
he only got one tuddy. He clearly threw two beautiful tuddies.
(01:20):
So shout out Taysom Hill curly very mad at me?
Why I openly said the man's washed, and I still
honestly think maybe he's a little washed. But you know what,
he's so fresh and so clean and clean. In this
game with one hundred million, maybe seven billion yards, he
didn't have that.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Man, He had forty two rushing yards on twelve attempts.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
That's only a three and a half clips still threw
a tuddy footiful thirty eight yard deep to Chris Oliva.
So you had Todler Shuck coming through with a sixty
five or sick of police percentage three hundred yards and
a tuddy and that's again with a lot of pressure
up front. Three sacks today's game, but don't worry, we're
talking about sack here to been. Chris Lave though, ten receptions,
(02:04):
one hundred and forty eight yards. For those who've been
keeping track for you, boy, Chris Lave, especially for those
of us who've been calling him out for doing things that,
come on, dude, you gotta be better. Today was the
day where Chris Lave is better. And if y'all did
not know, Chris Lave just passed one thousand yards receiving
on the season this year, as well as eight receiving touchdowns.
(02:27):
Thanks today, both career highs, So being a big congratulations,
little big old handclap right there for my mamma, myth
my LEGI with eight tds, that's career high. That's that's actually. Look,
I know I talk about him being a flanker and everything.
Man that he's he's starting to be like, hey, lke
(02:47):
look at me. Maybe I can be number one too.
You know what, respected your New Orleans Saints score twenty
nine points, almost had over a thirty. You did have
a missed field goal, just one though, so I I
guess you can't complain too much if you come to
the summary side of things.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
For me, you'll see on your screen right here above
we had.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Field goal, field goal, field goal, field goal, field goal.
So he made a lot, right, He's allowed to chip
one here and there. He did make five field goals.
And don't get me wrong, this was not an absolute
fantastic game. It was again two of the teams who
were at the bottom of the league playing together. But
what's important is even with missed opportunities for example, a
(03:32):
miss field goal, for example, touchdown called back because of
a holding penanty, this shit had never happened a Lanta
Taylor dropping an easy walk in Tuddy. After all those
missed things, you still won twenty nine to six. And
I know a lot of people go rev you can't
get too excited. It's the New York Jets. You know what,
(03:52):
Absolutely I can get excited because you know when it matters,
when it doesn't matter. What do I mean by that?
What is the key driving factor that I've highlighted over
the course of the past six games for the New
Orleans Saints. It's the fact that the New Orleans Saints
played with grint and they play to win even though.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
They don't there's no playoffs to play for.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
And there's plenty of Saints fans out there kicking just
mad angry as could be because that draft status for
the New Orleans Saints just creeping up and up and up.
Don't be surprised they keep this going, the drafting outside
of the top ten. But at the same time, you're
seeing some intangibles that you want to see from a team.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Right.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
They did not start off great, had that fumble on
that first drive, you had two straight field goals. Those
were disappointments for me because in those two drives after
you combine for twenty total offensive plays like look is
up and down as this team has been, especially along
the offensive line. They were controlling the tempo of the
game throughout the entirety. Just missed opportunities, then you need
(04:52):
a turnover on downs, then you come back though fifteen
play drive, and then you have to settle for a
field goals.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
So again, it's just those things.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Is that even when things weren't going completely right, you
were stepping up. Yes, you're going against one of the
weaker teams in the league, but at the same time,
any given Sunday, you came into this game with one
more win than New York. So don't get too haughty tawdy.
But let's switch over to the defense real quick. For
some people that need some shoutouts. Another person who's heard
Rev saying, man, I love him, but he's washed Cameron Jordan.
(05:22):
Cameron Jordan has now moved it. And look, you don't
have many games left, but Cameron Jordan has put himself
in a position to be smelling, sneaking to and quite
possibly being a scary underdog to bring back double digit
sacks for people over the age of four hundred years old.
With today's performance two sacks, he now has eight and
a half sacks on the season.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
That's only one and a half needed to get to ten.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
And for any of you people who are complete degenerates
and do a law of that, you know, gambling and
betting man, that getting to that getting to two, well,
getting into ten needing less than two sacks, oh no,
that's pretty impressive, especially for a thirty six year old. Now,
he definitely still has some issues that you know, age
(06:09):
can't help you. You can tell that his containment speed
for on rollouts is it what it used to be.
But the twist game when they got him in on
that first sec was absolutely crispy and beautiful. He still
was able to be in the right position. And that's
something that he has just by experience that a lot
of other guys just don't. When you're in the league
fifteen years, you learn a thing or two and he's
(06:29):
in the right spot when he needs to be capitalized,
gets two sacks. Chase Young picks up one, Chris Rump
picks up one. Stallbird coming in as a blitzing second
level guy, picks up one.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Jonah Williams gets one.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Alonte Taylor doing what Alonte Taylor has gotten really well
known for New Orleans Saints coming out one of the
best defensive front seven games we've seen them have in
a long time. Yes, it's the New York Jets. Ladies, gentlemen,
I don't care. What I am seeing is winning football
from the New or Saints, and we just as I
said in the opening of this show, don't worry. If
(07:04):
you're in the chat, we will absolutely acknowledge what you're saying.
But I said at the beginning of this show, Derek
Carr didn't do this. Spencer Rattler didn't do this. Trevis
Simeon didn't do this. Taysom Hill didn't do this. This
team is pulling off win streaks. This team is pulling
off dominant victories. And even though this team didn't score thirty,
(07:28):
you have not seen this team perform this well until
going back all the way and I'm speaking statistically factual
to twenty twenty two, which wasn't even a great year.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Probably speaks more to.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
The fact that that's gosh, that's how we're having to
like describe good is going back to twenty twenty two.
But my point is it's been years since you've seen
this type of performance. Years, right, so to see this
level of consistency is good. It is definitely something to
be excited. Still, not gonna tell you all that Shuck
(08:02):
is everything, Like I'm not telling you got him fifteen
years he's gonna dominate. But I will tell you this,
what negative can you say about Shuck over the past
couple weeks. He's had a few different things. I will
say I am worried about him. From an injury perspective,
He's getting beat up a little bit right. You can
see today in the game plan, they clearly backed off
using so many of the players that were successful against
Carolina to protect Shuck. He got a couple of bangs
(08:24):
and bruises on his hip to date, but they persevered.
And my favorite thing of what we're seeing about the
late New Orleans Saints as in the later part of
this year is the grit and determination to overcome adversity.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Fumble that's a big downer.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Field goals, including miss field goals all in the second
in the first half, find a way to overcome. You
got into the game here. When you went into the third,
you were still in a good spot. It's rough to
be confident playing from a lead, but you took that
and you started to compile on it took advantage of
(08:59):
the quarterback on the other side, who, by the way,
only through for a buck eighty eight through an interception,
No tuddies, and you held the opposing run game twenty
carries on sixty four yards. So the New Orleans Saints
offense is not super great. You can tell that by
the offensive line being inefficient. The defense is not great,
but man, they played much better. But everybody played well,
(09:22):
and everybody played with grit and determination, and as cheesy
as it sounds, that gave you a New Orleans Saints
their fifth win of the season. Still plenty of things
that can improve, but what you're starting to see, in
my opinion, is the cream rise to the crop of
who is old in this roster right now that you
absolutely want to build with into next year. Right Having
(09:44):
a quarterback who throws you three hundred yards and leadsa's
offense is pretty big deal.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Right.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
The passing game came through with two tudies. I'm giving
a credit. The passing game came through with three tutdies today.
Sadly one of those got pulled back. Offensive line is
block on guys like Taysom. He'll basically be in the
primary running back today. But you still saw Estimate have
some nice plays. I still like that they're you know,
sprinkling in Mason Tipton. You see more creativity from the
(10:09):
offensive side, and you just feel like Keleb Moore is
looking at this offense and going, Okay, I think I'm
finding the guys I wanted.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
I'm finding the guys I wanted, right.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
And at the end of the day, it's easy to say, oh,
you just beat the worst team in the league. Sure,
but context is big. I get it if it's just
one game, because it is just one game. But if
we go back to Week ten Carolina Panthers, what's happened
since then? You've won four games and lost two in
the past six games. Your New Orleans Saints are four
(10:45):
and two, and as I said, it's been years since
you've been able to have something like that. And that's
all the changes we've seen. It's the coaching staff doing better,
fitting more into their system.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
The defense has stepped up. It's obviously the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
We cannot pretend that the quarterback change has not been
a massive factor. And the biggest thing is the thing
I highlighted about Tyler Shuck for a long time. Better
ball placement is so huge, and it's worth pointing out
that one of those games, that Mammy Dolphins game definitely
was winnable. It's only one of the past six games
where you went, man, the Saints don't deserve to win
(11:23):
this game, and that's a different team, and that's absolutely
worth getting excited about. Now.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
This was the last home game.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
We had in the year, so we're going on the
road to Tennessee and to Atlanta. No guarantees there. Where
you stand right now as a Saints fan has to
be a place of excitement. Four of your past six,
all of it coming since the quarterback change, which was
a huge question coming into this year, was anybody going
to show that they could be a quarterback? You took
the time to build him and build with and really
(11:51):
believe him. Well, if Tyler Shuck hasn't shown you that
for at least one more year, I don't know what
else he could do. Chase Young, I.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Have to say impressed with how.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Chase Young has showed up because Chase Young is another
guy who just he's still technically young. You know, he's
twenty six years old, chat twenty six, Yet he's never
really reached the numbers he's reaching now.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
You saw him have some of the success early on.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Remember one defensive Rookie of the Year, But with today
he got seventh, his seventh sack, he got a fumble recovery.
You're seeing him put up numbers that are literally equal
to the rookie year where he won that. But he's
done it in ten games, whereas the year that he
won that was fifteen games.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
So a guy who hasn't even been on the field
the entire.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Time this year is falling out and is still in
twenty six, meaning you've got a few more years where
you can rely on that guy. I love to shout
out defensive young guys like Sanker who man not only
with the interception, but just how much he's improved as
we've gone down the year, and how he is comfortable
in that that coverage drop. This is all just things
(12:57):
that is worth getting excited about and positive and believing
and build on this next year. And even though it's
that postgame excitement where obviously we can think a little
bit differently than we should, maybe be a little bit
less clear than we should be, it's hard to look
at this team and not go man, I could see
this team, the one we're watching right now, and yes,
(13:17):
it was just the Jets, but it was also just
the Panthers, and it was also just the Buccaneers. Right,
you win the games you have on your schedule, it's
easy to make the argument based on the things you're
seeing on this team right now this weekend, this team
could be a five hundred team next year. This team
actually has something that you can build with. This team
(13:37):
might actually have some pieces. And nobody who's a Saints fan, analyst, blogger, podcaster,
YouTube officionado, nobody felt or could have said that way.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Honestly, two months ago.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
If you were staring at this team like I was
in Week seven and Week eight, none of you thought,
just as I did, it that next year was a wow,
we actually have some pieces. It's starting to come together, right,
That's what streaks are. It's tough to win three games
in a row in the NFL is difficult, and there's
still a lot of work that needs to be done.
(14:13):
Let's not pretend there's not. There are flaws from this game.
What are some examples of the flaws? Well, again, we
are dealing with penalty problems. Thankful today was cleaner. But
key penalties, for example, the one that took the touchdown away, right,
that is absolutely still a problem. The kick coverages have
got to get better when it comes to special teams.
(14:33):
Kick coverages are allowing too much in terms of return.
Don't worry. I'm not just going to be sunshine and rainbows.
There are things that we can do to argue things
should be better. Absolutely. For example, you had a kick
return of forty two today, you had a kick return
of thirty four by the Jets. That is unacceptable, right,
you cannot have that. These are things that have got
(14:55):
to get better in terms of team stuff. Right. I
think the defense looked great, held them to thirteen percent
on third down, but you still allow them to convert
two of their fourth down attempts. Can't have it happen. Right,
Your offense went zero for three in the red zone.
That's a negative. Can't have it happen. So it's not
us saying that, Look, the safe are dominant. They're going
(15:15):
to just blow everybody out the water next year. But
at least we can see some of that cream that
at least we can see some of that crop rising
the top. We're ready for that.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Harvest. Yeah, cheesy, It's okay.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
It's the Reverend in me right that's getting excited about
Chuck has shown up to get excited about Tipton as
a X factor is exciting for next year. Chris Olave
is showing you why you keep chrysal Lave and you
trade Rashis sha Heat. No offense to Rashisha He by
the way, who have great respect for Shout to Rashi
sha Heat on that kickoff return they took for a
tuddy against Atlanta a couple weeks ago. But you're starting
(15:51):
to see the Lave that you wanted to see earlier
this year. And part of that change has come I
think with better coaching, but also better quarterback play, better
ball placement.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
There's not a lot of those hospital balls.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Going up in the air. Guys believe they're going to
get a good ball, and they believe that they're going
to get some yards after catch. Because if you track
the advanced analytics, the New Orleans Saints are getting more
yards after catch these past six games they've been getting
earlier in the year. You look at some of the
other big numbers for this year, you look at the
drop rates, the pressure rates. I think those are really
(16:25):
important things to take a look at. And you look
at Tyler Shuck. His drop pass raider dropped passer rating
right now is five point three percent coming into this game,
meaning he's actually had to deal with more drop passes
than Spencer Ratler did. And yet you have better yards
after the catch. And yet you're having a better quarterback rating.
And yet even though the New Orleans Saints are giving
(16:46):
up more pressure than when Spencer Ratler is a quarterback,
you're seeing the receiver group play better. And this is
after we lost val A, right so there's just so
many little things worth getting excited about right now. It's
beautiful and more importantly, it's fun. And we said that
last week. It's fun to be a Saints fan right now.
It's fun to watch what's being put together right whether
(17:08):
the Saints are doing some pretty familiar concepts that many
of you are useful, are used to the mess concepts,
the little triangle reads on the half field.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Or you're seeing new things, it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
I love seeing the Taysom Hill wrinkle because Taysom Hill
again actually had a career high in touches today. I
know this is crazy to think about but he had
four perceptions, he threw a touchdown, and he ran twelve times.
But it was that balance that opened up types of
plays we haven't seen this year, like Hill being able
to chuck it, but it being a play that was
(17:41):
completely broken. New York didn't see it coming right. And
it's fun to be able to enjoy stuff like that. Raheem,
great to see you this. Can we please improve the
short yardist situation over the last two weeks? I think
that is a completely fair and wonderful thing to bring up, Rahem.
We do need to talk about how can this team
get better. One way they've gotten better, let's do the
comp mint sandwich. One thing they've done way better is
(18:03):
long distance. It was almost a guarantee earlier this year.
If New Orleans got into like a second and fourteen,
a third and twelve thirty sixteen, it was barbecue chicken,
it was done. You were gonna punt. You're basically playing
field position. This team has gotten significantly better. When you
have longer yardist situations, they can get you that fourteen
(18:24):
yard pass, they can go over the top on you.
But you are right, they've got to get better in
short yard is I think a lot of that though,
is who are they running with and who their offensive
line is with. That's a big problem right now for
the Saints. Obviously you're on guard number five. You know,
Banks had a rough day to day. He's been a
pretty good left tackle, but he had a rough day
(18:44):
to day. You know, you're technically on your first you
kind of have two rookie tackles. You're on your second center,
and then that isn't Speaking of the running backs, the
running back position is so bad. And not that I'm
trying to insult any of the player. They're just lacking
Devin Neil, Alvin Kamara, et cetera. That's relying on Taysom Hill,
(19:05):
who is over thirty years old as your primary carrier.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
I think that's probably the biggest issue with leading to
the third and shorts being a problem. At said, it
still is a problem that's got to get better, and
I do hope the New Orleans Saints go after a
pretty nice running back in this upcoming draft. I would
like to put running back into that second third round.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I know some of y'all.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Might be shocked at that, but as much as I
love Ak Right, I do believe Ak has gotten long
in the tooth. I still think he'd be very effective.
I think he's long in the tooth. It needs to
be the secondary back at this point in his career
and still give you some of those big pop up plays.
It's not that I'm saying that I don't like Kendre Miller.
Kendre Miller's just not healthy, right. Kendra Miller cannot stay
on the field all year. That's not his fault. Sometimes
(19:47):
your body is just your body, right. So there's definitely
some things that we need to start looking at as
we get closer into January and stuff.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
We start looking at the draft.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Second third round running back is right up in my alley,
and I think that the way that Kellen Moore uses
his offense, especially you saw it in today. You see
Estimate getting those chances as a receiver three reception seventeen
yards a critical one in that first half as well,
to keep a drive going.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
He wants to use those.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
He wants to take advantage of those. So you'll give
that opportunity to that new player, to that young guy.
I think they really need that obviously offensive line, right,
I think they need to address offensive line both in
the draft and in free agency, and I also.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Got to throw out one more name. Man, Like I
really thought we were gonna be entering.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Into this offseason going well, we've got to get a
tight end. I know, give it a couple more games chat,
But Juwan Johnson has really changed and really started to
show up and show out with all.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Of these things that have been changing. Again, not everything's great.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
The offensive lineman you've been having going down, that's a problem,
but Jiwan has been balling.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I mean, Juwan went from looking like het to be
that guy. See, don't get mad at me. Okay. Juwan
went from looking.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Like beginning of the season Zion Williamson to end the
season Zion Williams and we go, oh man, when Zion's playing,
we good. The difference is hopefully the Zion one. Y'all
have stopped falling for that, because y'all know that's complete
bs Juwan. Hopefully it means it. Eight receptions on nine
targets for eighty nine yards over eleven on average, and
(21:24):
more importantly, very critical third downs. He's completing right, He's
completing important third downs. It's not just about scoring when
it comes to tight ends. It's being able to rely
on them to get you your first downs, and coming
into this game, Alba Kamara led you in with twenty
eight total first downs between running back and receiving. Well,
(21:47):
Chris Lave is your number one at the moment, but
Juwan Johnson is your second best. He has now passed
Alvin Kamara's totals for first downs created and that's been again.
The second half of the year has been a very
nice explosion from him. And if you want to talk
about where he's at, he is currently I think about
fifteen twenty yards away from seven hundred and fifty receiving
(22:11):
yards as a tight end this year, So we're talking.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
About him really improving.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Still would be okay with drafting a tight end, of course,
but you're starting to see him look like the guy
that you hoped would have showed up again at the
beginning of the year. And some of these things just
take the cast around you to evolve, change, get better
while playing together. I think you're starting to have that right,
starting to have that. And I also love what twit says,
they're Cam Jordan playing for that golden jacket. Cameron Jordan
(22:39):
is doing a fantastic job. I look I still and
I say this, I've said two things.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
I know some people get mad at me.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
I say some things. So you know what I've said
two things my context to caveat to what I'm about
to add. Number one, I believe my man, Cameron Jordan
is absolutely long in the tooth.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
He's passed his prime.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
He's to the point where I do not believe that
he should consistently be on the main.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Pass rush downs like third down.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
At the same time, let me add another thing he is.
I think he has earned the right to as long
as he is effective to a degree, he has the
right to be on this team as long as he
wants to. And with him now at eight sacks in
the season, eight and a half sacks on the season
counting half sacks, he earned him another year. That's what
(23:32):
I'm saying, Like, there are plenty of good reasons to believe.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Hey, maybe we don't really.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Rely on this guy, or we just know that he's
getting old. Well with today, he moved into sole ownership
of seventeenth place of the official sack count in the
NFL history. And if you're going by the unofficial sack count,
remember the unofficials where they went back and looked at
some of the sacks before sacks were a thing. They
(23:57):
watched the old games, said guys like, you know, well
Reggie Jackson had more, et cetera. Well, then he just
moved and tied with Claude Humphrey for twenty fourth. But
in terms of the official record, he is now the
sole owner of seventeenth place, and he is now two
and a half sacks away from tying. This is gonna
(24:17):
blow your mind, tying Lawrence Taylor. Yes, that LT. That's
how close he is in terms of sack numbers. He
just hit one hundred and thirty career sacks. After today,
Lawrence Taylor finished with one hundred and thirty two point five.
Now there are amazing sack owners who are out there.
You know that many of you have seen Bruce Smith,
(24:39):
you know, I remember watching Julius Pepper's growing up. Michael
Strahan and all those guys have more sacks than Lawrence
Taylor as well. But to have that same name, to
be in that same gravitass to be mentioned with LT. Who.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Anybody who's followed d Line at any.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Point your year has probably been taught about how ALT
is basically the Gail Sayers slash various Sanders, et cetera.
That's insane. And again, there are other great names out there.
Bruce Smith definitely is probably the best sacked artist to
ever touch football. I mean, the guy's nuts. Reggie White
(25:22):
another great name in history, but LT for me was
just one that just like always really really stood out
as just a great And when you start getting put
next to these conversations and putting in these names, how
can you not give him the gold jacket?
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Right?
Speaker 1 (25:40):
I know we got a little sidetracked from today where
we're talking about beating the New York Jets, but how
can you not get excited and how can you not
think about things like that? When Cameron Jordan, thirty six
years old, routing off two sacks brings it up to
eight and a half on the year, and now he's
two and a half away from being right there with
LT of the man the jacket. Do it now? You
(26:03):
can't do it soon enough, but you still have two
more games. And I also want to point out that
as far as Cameron Jordan does historically he's always loved
playing the Atlanta Falcons. Well, you got one of those
games and you got a rookie quarterback that is very athletic,
but maybe you can feast on an athletic quarterback who
I don't feel like has had a very good year
in Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Man, it's exciting. Eight and a half sacks? Shaw. Can
y'all believe that eight and a half sacks? Remember he had?
Speaker 1 (26:29):
I don't know if he still does, but I remember
I covered this when I was working for the Athletic.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
He had an NFL record streak from.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Twenty twelve to twenty twenty two, so eleven football years
of a minimum of seven and a half sacks. That
was a record, I remember correctly from when I was
doing my work with the Athletic. Now, obviously you've had
guys in timespans who've had more sacks, but specifically seven
and a half. He did it for twelve seasons in
a row, eleven seasons in a row, and now you've
got him back to those numbers. We've not seen him
(26:59):
put up those numbers since twenty twenty two. I mean,
what an achievement. And this isn't even to talk to
that last week we were saying to Tomorrio, Davis just
reached fifteen hundred tackles.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
It's absolutely crazy, incredible, incredible.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Anyway, anyway, back on topic, it was a great win
today and being able to see this team have passion
and believe in themselves. And I don't know if y'all
saw after the Taysom he'll touch down him and Kellen
more just embracing on the sidelines. Just seeing a team
that believes in each other and his fighting for each
(27:34):
other is exciting, man. And you see it in the
veterans like Tomorrio Davis, who, by the way, had eight
more tackles a day. Another TfL had him a pass deflection.
Sanker had two pds. Bullard at the line had a
great one on a critical third down, gets his big
mid up bats it down at.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
The line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Koul A McKinstry had a really good game. And you
look at the receivers on their team, only one got
over fifty yards fifty two on the dot. They just
they shut everything down and there's a lot of garbage
time play towards the end there where you look to
the end of the New York Jets possessions and they
just start getting a few different chunks. But after their
(28:11):
first three drives they did nothing right. The New Orleans
says defense made a punt four times in a row,
then forced to fumble, then picked them off, then turnover
on downs, and then finally just said, well, y all
just shut up and leave, get out of here, end
the game.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Great draft class this year, a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
It's excited to be a Saints fan, and it's good
to start seeing some of these guys that you can
build with, work with moving forward. And there's a lot
I said it earlier in the year that like kool
aid is on my list of don't touch him. I
think he's showing why Sanker one who's definitely got a
long term here. You know. I think Chase Young definitely
deserves more time here. Quincy Riley, if you're not calling
his name, it's usually a good thing.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Had a good day.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
If y'all did not notice, we're getting more and more
time of Danny Stutsman. You'll notice that he has more
snaps in today's game than Pee Warner, you know, so
start paying attention to that. Sadly, Brian Berse had to
leave with injury. But man, this is this is a
lot of fun football, y'all. I mean eight for seventeen,
forty seven percent on third down.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
I know it's the New York Jets, but I will
take that.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
I will take that.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
You look at averaging five point three yards of play,
I will take that, especially when you're holding.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Your opponent to three point one.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
New Orleans Saints did what they had to do to
win this game today, and the fact that they did
it in just such a dominant fashion eight sacks. I
don't care who the opponent is. The New Orleans Saints
showed you better be paying attention to them next year.
Do not sleep because this division ain't that good again.
I'm not trying to just overhype anything, but New Orleans
(29:41):
has five wins.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
The division leader, the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Has eight wins, and we beat them twice. This division
is takable next year. I'm starting too early. I'm gonna
getting a little bit too cocky. The film study of
the past month has been getting me really feeling some
type of way.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
But your division leader, you swept twice and you're only
three behind.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Had this resurgence happened just three weeks earlier, we could be.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Talking about them still having playoff potential.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
And if the NFC South fans, if you come listen
to the Hood that professional podcast. You must listen. You
must listen. Do not sleep on the New Orleans Saints
next year. If this team that we're seeing right now
shows up next year, you better be ready. Charles.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Great to see my friend. Welcome in. Thank you for
supporting the channel, says Tayston.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
With a dagger cam. A two sacks and only Smith
made the sixty one yarder. Been the cherry on top.
I wonder how active we'll be in free agency? Would
you draft or looked at your free agent for the
interior offensive line?
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Two years of McCoy being hurt is a bummer.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Number one. Thank for supporting the family. Thanks of supporting
Hood that Professional. Greatly appreciate you, Charles. I would say this,
I would absolutely be looking in both the draft and
free agency for the offensive line. Right. So, if we
pull up the game sheet for the New Orleans Saints
here and you look at who is actually playing offensive
line for them, right you look at the fact that
(31:04):
it's rookie Banks and then Radden's a career journeyman at
guard fortner just basically a career backup.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
I'm not trying to be meaned to what's happening at center.
Sherman right.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Rotation at the right Fuaga first time playing right tackle.
They need help and it's multiple positions, right, So absolutely,
I think you need to do that in both. I
think you can draft a good offensive lineman in the
third or fourth round if you fall in love with somebody,
maybe even the first. I know y'all don't want to
hear that. I'm just saying, you win this game with
the trenches. And if you don't believe me, watch today.
(31:39):
What do I mean by that, Well, you just dominated
the New York Jets. Well, part of that was the
fact that you got eight sacks. Part of that was
the fact that Taysom Hill was able to run. Well,
think of it this way, the New York Jets are, yes,
one of the worst teams in the NFL, So you
actually got to see your offensive line and defensive line
kind of have a closer look of what it would
look like if they were a good unit. What do
(32:01):
I mean, Well, if we know the Jets are not
one of the better teams in the league, that means
they're playing probably to what we would say is our
offensive line level right now. Right, So if you have
better talent now you can more imagine doing that against
better teams. That's why you invest in the lines all
the time free agency draft, try to do it every
year because to do the great things that you want
(32:24):
to do, it all starts in the trenches. It starts
with your offensive line, it starts with your defensive line.
You need to be able to have the game where
you pull out eight sacks, but it doesn't have to
be against the couple win team Jets. You need to
be able to do that against the Denver Broncos who
are leading the conference.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Right and to do that, you have to have elite.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
People who fit your positionals style and we have the
athletic ability to dominate. You got to have that on
both sides. So if they draft offensive line, I'm not
gonna be pissed. Now.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
I don't think you should draft to guard a center
in the first.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Round, but it's happened before and it's had success, so definitely,
I'm looking round two through round four though, for offensive line,
I think is just something they need. And I will
say this, of course I want Smith to make the
sixty one yarder, but he still made five field goals today,
five of them right of varying depths thirty five yard
or forty nine yarder, thirty six yard or fifty yarder,
(33:18):
and thirty nine yarder. Right, you got the guy who
was successful all the way into the fifties. It's just
that bomb. I still want him to make it, don't
get me wrong, but I hope we keep him around
for a couple of years and he continues to grow.
You would think that he can only get better, right
because he's not familiar with this. Like, I'm not saying
(33:39):
he can't play in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
He's obviously doing it.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
But the point I'm saying is Smith again is a
foreigner from another country, was not playing American.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Football transition over. The thought is he can get better.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
He is not a guy coming with four or five
years of collegiate experience and then four years of high
school experience.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Right.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
This guy's learning on the job. And if he can
be that good right now, well hopefully he can only
get better. That's another exciting thing. Right, Still think that
the punting position is something that low key needs to
get looked at. But that's obviously something that you do
on Day three if you're going to draft it at all,
or you do it free agency, So.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Mister Donsa says this team is now trending upwards.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
They'll resign a Lave and a Lante Taylor both quite possibly.
I'm not sold on needing to resign a Lante Taylor,
but I've always said this, don't just get rid of
a guy until you have a replacement ready.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
And do the Saints have that right now? Not quite, but.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Definitely think the New Orleans Saints are a lot of
fun and in a really good position. Hope y'all had
a great time today. I had a blast watching this game.
And yeah, I know for those who are going to
say in the comments it was the New York Jets.
But let me also spit one more fact to you.
You play Who's on your schedule? And one fact you
cannot deny. New Orleans Saints are four and two over
(35:02):
their past six. Damn it.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
That puts a smile on this ginger's face.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Who That God Blessed will catch you on the next
episode of Who That Professional podcast. I appreciate y'all so much.
