reviewed some of the All twenty two. We're gonna talk
to you about the offense defense. We do have some
Julian Blackman news that sadly looks like we might be
missing him for the remainder of the season. We'll talk
about what that fit in could be, and we'll cover
some of the snapcounts just a little bit for those here,
joined of course by Elias, who took the time to

watch some of that defensive tape and I watched some
of the offensive tape. And we're gonna give you our
two cents here so that you can be ready.

and he's gonna do it consistently, and I'm gonna talk
that into existence. He's gonna say, we have our guy

Welcome in, everybody. We're gonna start with the offensive tape.
I took the time to look, and let me tell
you about Spencer Ratli. I'm gonna youve the quick Spencer Rattler.
Spencer Rattler had in some aspects, the best game of
his NFL career, and I love that. And I actually
think the last drive is a great microcosm of where
I see Spencer Rattler at right now, the throat at
Juan Johnson that he does not come down with. I
(01:59):
know there have been some people in Saints media who said, look,
just a great play by you know, the Cardinals defense.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I personally am of the belief. I'm very old school.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
If it hits you in the hands, your job, especially
if you're paid well, is to catch it. But in
terms of the throw back shoulder throw at the seam,
I think is maybe his best throw as a starter.
Though the very next play, which tends to get forgotten
is the throw to chrysal Lave. He had Chris a
Lave wide open touchdown was available at the lower pylon.
(02:27):
He overthrows the shot, and I think the reason he
overthrows it is one issue that he is still not corrected.
In fact, Elias discussed this in his scouting when he
was doing Spencer Ratler's college tape. Rattler, like a lot
of young quarterbacks, has a problem with how far he'll
do his drops. So we've talked about this a lot
in offensive line play where you have three step drops,
(02:50):
five step drops, seven step drops as a quarterback, if
you're in shotgun, which he was in that final play
with chrisal Lave, well he is already a natural five
step drop because you're in shotgun. But if you look,
he goes from the twenty three yard line all the
way back to the twenty nine after the snap, So
keep mount after twenty three that is, with the five
step drop depth already, he drops back another six yards.

And what ends up happening is Banks.

At left tackle, wh I felt had a great game,
arguably maybe the best game of any rookie offensive linemen
in the NFL in Week one. If we won't have
that debate. We'll do that another episode. But he looked fantastic.
Problem is, when you drop back another six yards, you
ruin the arc and as a tackle, whether left or
right side, you're defending an arc generally only going to
be six seven ish yards, not ten yards deep, maybe
(03:40):
even up to eight right but you can't expect a
guy to defend that far deep. And it also ended
up playing to the disadvantage of Rattler because he actually
dropped so far back he missed his throwing lane. There
was an open throwing lane between the guard and the center.
Had he been upwards at about a seven step drop,
which would have been around the twenty five yard line,
he actually been able to more easily the chrysal lave
(04:00):
at that front pielone and maybe more easily have made
the throw.

But alas not. The case doesn't take away.

From him having a fantastic throw the play before, but
it also shows the growth that still has to happen
with Rattler.

I'm ask you this and I suggested it, or at
least touched on him Smid. It doesn't matter who the
quarterback is. You add about three inches of hepe, you
turn Olive into a six' to three receiver with about
an extra two inches of. Online does that make that
at least still an attempt at a ball there That

olive can.

GET i think you have a better chance of a
jump ball That Chris olave just doesn't give.

You get, to, Right and so it's, like, hey it
doesn't matter who the quarterback, is The saints need to
get a go to possession receiver with some size there
that can make up for those types of. Froze because
they're both young. Quarterbacks those the goals that are gonna

happen more often than. Not we've gotten used To Drew
brees level, accuracy, Right it's not gonna happen like that.
Anymore got to get some longer receivers there so they
have better opportunity to make plays on the ball and
make those young quarterbacks look. Better, typically teams do one
of two things when they have young. Quarterbacks they either

add a, young savvy veteran right that makes plays from
or they draft a young high stud pick to pair with.
Them but they always try to add a player that
should make the receiver's job a little bit. Easier i'm
not Seeing, olive And i'm not Seeing rashid make either
quarterbacks job easier in those.

SITUATIONS i, Agree and, WELL i don't know that this
is A Mickey loomis. Thing he's got to go out
and try to find that guy until, then as you've pointed,
out this is why you have three former quarterbacks on
this coaching staff because another element that pays plays into
how far you drop back is it actually affects your.
Timing whole point of three five seven step drops are,
(06:01):
timing and we know that it's something That rattler is
still improving. On, well if he's dropping that far, back
he's affecting timing of. Routes and this is also why
you used to See Drew brees maybe only drop back
in a shotgun two, steps but they did that little bounce.
Thing that's all a timing technique to make sure that
you stay.

That they see that and those are the type of
drills they have him working on in. Practice but not
to spend too much time On. Ratler if you have

It cesarese has regressed tremendously from last, year WHICH i
thought had gotten to an adequate. LEVEL i don't Think
ruiz has yet to show a good. Level but man
looked really rough, here and a couple of things that
he's doing in this game he wasn't doing last. Year
remember how Andres p used to always over extends right
now is almost exclusively two hand punching and overextending and

constantly having weight forward and getting.

Beaten how do you compensate for?

That you attack half man with one arm and you
don't over extend little things technique. Wise that was the
reason he came into THE nfl, Was, hey look he's
a guy that needs more, playstraight but his technique is. Great,
well now we've flipped roles where play. Strength he has
gotten a little bit, stronger but his technique seems to
be out the. Window and then it didn't help That,
fuaga for whatever, reason had a rough game. Here fuaga

also got beat and whiffed on multiple, plays which disrupted
some of the, run and even Though rattler had maybe
the best consistent pocket he had so far in his seven,
starts the pressures that did happen typically were coming from
that right side of the.

Right that's the level of bad That Caesar ruiz has
been in the preseason in week. One, now of COURSE
i want that to, change but if we're talking about
how can we, Win ruiz is a liability at the.
Moment that's WHAT i. Saw very rarely do you see
me agreeing With Pro Football focus when it comes to
great y'all know that me and them have had Some
it's a very cantankerous. Relationship but we all Saw ruiz

just consistently, whiffing not playing half, man overextending and whether
it was the run game or the past game being a.
Problem AND i do hope he fixes, that but that
that is the worst spot on the offensive line right.

Now and during the during the the the casting of the,
game the producers made point to mention, that you, know
the offensive line hadn't played together for the whole. SEASON
a lot of those guys didn't play during the preseason very.
Often i'm, like can't use that excuse For. Sear he
played as much as any other offensive lineman during the.

Preseason he should be well, Tuned.

LIKE i can get that To Like fuaga in his
second year move into a new, POSITION i can give
that to. Him But, ruiz who is what in his
fifth year at the same. Spot, Nah i'm not giving that.
Too he's especially with the type of issues he's having
because it's not like a timing thing where he's trying
to do an outside zone run and their timing is
a little bit off on their. Steps, no this is

just him getting beat one on. One it has nothing
to do With oh he needs to you, know have
better timing because he's used To Ryan ramscheck at right
Or Trevor. Penning, no it's just straight up he's losing right.
Now he's not playing as a high. Athlete remember that
was a big thing with him getting drafted was hey
may not be, strong but he's, quick he's great in.

to the defensive side of. Things Of Reezra, Dunds, banks
McCoy rattler were the only ones to do one hundred
percent of the. Snaps Alba kamara had seventy nine percent
of the, snaps which only frustrates me because the man
only had like thirteen. Touches Kendre miller had fifteen percent
of the. Snaps AND i will say, this if we're
going to play ak around, eighty which they've already hinted

they wanted to. Do give me a couple of split
back sets with both running backs on the, field BECAUSE
i Think kendre is showing that he's a threat that
you have to, respect even if he's not to the
degree Of Alba, kamara and right Now New orleans needs
every threat on the field they can. Have let's see
some of those split. Situations i'd love to see some creativeness.
There you only saw seven snaps From Devin. Neil for
those fans out, There Juwan johnson only missed one, snap

was on the field the entire time offense or, sorry
pass or run With SHAHEED. A, lave etcetera being both
at eighty five. Percent so in terms of snap, counts
you didn't see a lot of that sub packaging that
we have gotten.

see a lot of these comments on, Socials well there's no.
Separation yeah there, was there's JUST nfl. Separation people are

looking for like six seven yard big. Gaps, no there's
one two yard gaps three to six. Feet that's AN nfl,
window and we have a couple of those that need
to get. Hit, overall still saying the same. THING i
still Think Spencer roller had his best game as a.
STARTER i think that you did see some of the
things that you want to see improvement, on but it's
not like the Say swade receiver corp is not getting.
Open and in that same vein push the, Ball spencer push.

Think Kella moore should call more of here in the,

social media guys was well. Known he said that they
were playing a shell, Yep and he's, like you, know
if you don't know where the shell. Is just say
you don't know where the shell. Is could they still
have attacked down the field despite the Shell.

When you have multiple guys who run four, Threes, yeah
you can run over the top of a shell unless
you don't believe your guy can make the. Throw, now
the shell coverage is naturally going to push things underneath
because you have more guys lurking in, zone which, yeah completely.
Fair especially if we're talking about throwing into a cover
two shell or even a cover three. Shell you're going
to have guys who are already fifteen yards back waiting for.

It but that's why you have things like The dino,
step which is a double move to you, know lurt
coverage down and then get over the top of. Them
Bashisha heat does that very. Well he's very good at
running a dino. Step, large longer post routes with breaks
at seventeen yards fifteen. Yards there's things you can, do

right then you attack the hole which is middle of
the field right between those two, zones or you attack
the sidelines underneath those zones because they are unlikely to
make it all the way to the.

It you adjust to what is provided to. You shell
is not a magic way to prevent all. Passes if
that was the, case everybody would run a shell defense

subbing but that if you're going to do, that you
better have the right people in the field for the right.

Play and that means if you have a guaranteed pass,
rush then you Need Carl granderson definitely on the, field
you probably Want Cameron jordan, there and that's not taking
shots At, diggs just being. Honest rump And diggs have
a lesson successful chance of reaching the quarterback Than granderson
And jordan in a pure pass.

Situation not even Taking brazil as one of the defensive
tackles in that. Play it was the fact that you
had your back up to your backup outside edge, rushers
and you had two run stoppers as your interior pass.
Rushers it was a fail all the way. Across it
was a fail that you had zero proven pass rushers
on a play where you knew that you were expecting

awareness from the, coaches AND i discussed this IS i
don't like them sugaring the gaps with the linebackers because
the integrity of this. Defense if you read about The
staley The fangio, defense it's built on the players playing.
Forward it's built on them being able to come up

and make plays instead of playing in, reverse which is
a more passive play. Style so when you're sugaring the
gaps with the, linebackers but then you're not sending them
their playing backwards and what did you see a lot
of times in those sugar the middle of the field
still ended up being open because the linebackers are Not

they're not aware enough and coverage or As real put,
it it's supposed to be like a color flash is
meant to confuse the. Quarterback but What i'm seeing is
your linebackers also need to have a bit of a
feel for. That instead they're just spot dropping to an
area and the area is still being targeted regardless of

having the, color the flash or, Whatever it's still a targeted.
Area the second ISSUE i have with that Is Pete
marenner has how many interceptions in his? Career The Mario
david has been paying for almost two damn. Decades how
many interceptions he got his. Career that ain't something you
want them. Doing let them play. FORWARD i need the
integrity of that defense to be more. Consistent if it's
about having them play forward instead of dropping them seventy

percent of the time and then blitzing, thirty maybe you
should be reversing that and blitzing them seventy percent of
the time and then dropping them, thirty so you're putting
them in those predicaments less SO i need to see
the awareness from the coaches a little bit better on.
That and yet still biggest, thing eleven teams held their

opponents to twenty points or less On sunday or Between
thursday And. Monday BECAUSE i didn't see yesterday's game at
the time WHEN i figured out this stat These saints
were the only team that. Lost so as much AS
i want to say the defense should have, improved absolutely

the offense needs to play better because if, you as you,
mentioned if you hold a team to twenty, points more
often than, not you're gonna. Win the offense needs to
play a heck of a lot. Better but that does
kind of move us into the final aspect of some
of the plays that happened with the defense were the
safeties missing. Plays, Yea and then you go and you

Lose Julian blackman, here who injures the same exact shoulder
that he played through last year the team last, year
asking to play through. It he injures the exact same,
shoulder finds out when he gets, home and now what
do you. Do you've Got sanker back. There you got a.
Rookie But sanker plays more like a strong safety to,

Me you've Got Jordan howden back, there and he's your
elder statesman at the. Position he played free safety most
of the time during the preseason along With, sanker and
you have those. Options but real real thinks The saints
actually have a third.

BUT i will say, this if you really are dedicated to,
winning you have a guy he's.

Safety houston just come down and stick people for no.
Reason to, me there's some of the guys that play
on the field where they might see a pile, happening
but they're not gonna run towards the. Pole they'll they'll jog.
It you got some guys that come and they if
they see a pile and a person ain't going, down

they go on full speed to hit the. Pile to,
me that shows like an aggressiveness of. Nature that shows
LIKE i want to hit, somebody AND i see that
out Of, sanker AND i didn't always see that out
of other players on the. Game SO i had a
choice for, me it would Be sanker to come in
and play BECAUSE i DON'T i don't necessarily see that

level of play from.

Hout real, quick before we wrap, up question for, you
who Is sanker in that? Combo is He witner or
is He DeShawn goldson in that combo from that forty
Nine ers safety combo you were just. Referenced do you
like him more as the big hit or do you
actually trust him to roam and still provide a good.

Hit actually like his explosiveness in short. Areas saw a
couple of playsmen in preseason where he's pretty much covering two.
Routes he's standing in his spot to cover you, know his,
area and then he jumps forward and still makes a
play on a pass that comes. UNDERNEATH i do like

him more as a strong, safety like somebody that can
roam and maybe take away some of those short. Routes,
yeah and rather than just consistently playing deep. Out but
Again DeShawn goldson was. Listen it was fun to see
him come from his deep safety position from a run that,
was you, know in the middle of the field and
it's gotten maybe three or four yards and he comes

from fifteen yards back and plows into the pile to
deliver a. Blow you might say it was, unnecessary but to,

reviewed some of the All twenty two. We're gonna talk
to you about the offense defense. We do have some
Julian Blackman news that sadly looks like we might be
missing him for the remainder of the season. We'll talk
about what that fit in could be, and we'll cover
some of the snapcounts just a little bit for those here,
joined of course by Elias, who took the time to

watch some of that defensive tape and I watched some
of the offensive tape. And we're gonna give you our
two cents here so that you can be ready.

But at some point Rev was gonna actually call me Elias,
and he's gonna do it consistently, and I'm gonna talk
that into existence. He's gonna say, we have our guy
elliots because we don't. We don't go by lives anymore.

pott Okay, it hasn't been fifteen times. I'm exaggerating, but
I struggled to call my own children the right name.

Welcome in, everybody. We're gonna start with the offensive tape.
I took the time to look, and let me tell
you about Spencer Ratli. I'm gonna youve the quick Spencer Rattler.
Spencer Rattler had in some aspects, the best game of
his NFL career, and I love that. And I actually
think the last drive is a great microcosm of where
I see Spencer Rattler at right now, the throat at
Juan Johnson that he does not come down with. I
(01:59):
know there have been some people in Saints media who said, look,
just a great play by you know, the Cardinals defense.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I personally am of the belief. I'm very old school.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
If it hits you in the hands, your job, especially
if you're paid well, is to catch it. But in
terms of the throw back shoulder throw at the seam,
I think is maybe his best throw as a starter.
Though the very next play, which tends to get forgotten
is the throw to chrysal Lave. He had Chris a
Lave wide open touchdown was available at the lower pylon.
(02:27):
He overthrows the shot, and I think the reason he
overthrows it is one issue that he is still not corrected.
In fact, Elias discussed this in his scouting when he
was doing Spencer Ratler's college tape. Rattler, like a lot
of young quarterbacks, has a problem with how far he'll
do his drops. So we've talked about this a lot
in offensive line play where you have three step drops,
(02:50):
five step drops, seven step drops as a quarterback, if
you're in shotgun, which he was in that final play
with chrisal Lave, well he is already a natural five
step drop because you're in shotgun. But if you look,
he goes from the twenty three yard line all the
way back to the twenty nine after the snap, So
keep mount after twenty three that is, with the five
step drop depth already, he drops back another six yards.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And what ends up happening is Banks.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
At left tackle, wh I felt had a great game,
arguably maybe the best game of any rookie offensive linemen
in the NFL in Week one. If we won't have
that debate. We'll do that another episode. But he looked fantastic.
Problem is, when you drop back another six yards, you
ruin the arc and as a tackle, whether left or
right side, you're defending an arc generally only going to
be six seven ish yards, not ten yards deep, maybe
(03:40):
even up to eight right but you can't expect a
guy to defend that far deep. And it also ended
up playing to the disadvantage of Rattler because he actually
dropped so far back he missed his throwing lane. There
was an open throwing lane between the guard and the center.
Had he been upwards at about a seven step drop,
which would have been around the twenty five yard line,
he actually been able to more easily the chrysal lave
(04:00):
at that front pielone and maybe more easily have made
the throw.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
But alas not. The case doesn't take away.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
From him having a fantastic throw the play before, but
it also shows the growth that still has to happen
with Rattler.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I'm ask you this and I suggested it, or at
least touched on him Smid. It doesn't matter who the
quarterback is. You add about three inches of hepe, you
turn Olive into a six' to three receiver with about
an extra two inches of. Online does that make that
at least still an attempt at a ball there That
(04:35):
olive can.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
GET i think you have a better chance of a
jump ball That Chris olave just doesn't give.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
You get, to, Right and so it's, like, hey it
doesn't matter who the quarterback, is The saints need to
get a go to possession receiver with some size there
that can make up for those types of. Froze because
they're both young. Quarterbacks those the goals that are gonna
(05:01):
happen more often than. Not we've gotten used To Drew
brees level, accuracy, Right it's not gonna happen like that.
Anymore got to get some longer receivers there so they
have better opportunity to make plays on the ball and
make those young quarterbacks look. Better, typically teams do one
of two things when they have young. Quarterbacks they either
(05:22):
add a, young savvy veteran right that makes plays from
or they draft a young high stud pick to pair with.
Them but they always try to add a player that
should make the receiver's job a little bit. Easier i'm
not Seeing, olive And i'm not Seeing rashid make either
quarterbacks job easier in those.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
SITUATIONS i, Agree and, WELL i don't know that this
is A Mickey loomis. Thing he's got to go out
and try to find that guy until, then as you've pointed,
out this is why you have three former quarterbacks on
this coaching staff because another element that pays plays into
how far you drop back is it actually affects your.
Timing whole point of three five seven step drops are,
(06:01):
timing and we know that it's something That rattler is
still improving. On, well if he's dropping that far, back
he's affecting timing of. Routes and this is also why
you used to See Drew brees maybe only drop back
in a shotgun two, steps but they did that little bounce.
Thing that's all a timing technique to make sure that
you stay.

On call and on the. Roll and, AGAIN i hope.

That they see that and those are the type of
drills they have him working on in. Practice but not
to spend too much time On. Ratler if you have

It cesarese has regressed tremendously from last, year WHICH i
thought had gotten to an adequate. LEVEL i don't Think
ruiz has yet to show a good. Level but man
looked really rough, here and a couple of things that
he's doing in this game he wasn't doing last. Year
remember how Andres p used to always over extends right
now is almost exclusively two hand punching and overextending and

constantly having weight forward and getting.

Beaten how do you compensate for?

That you attack half man with one arm and you
don't over extend little things technique. Wise that was the
reason he came into THE nfl, Was, hey look he's
a guy that needs more, playstraight but his technique is. Great,
well now we've flipped roles where play. Strength he has
gotten a little bit, stronger but his technique seems to
be out the. Window and then it didn't help That,
fuaga for whatever, reason had a rough game. Here fuaga

also got beat and whiffed on multiple, plays which disrupted
some of the, run and even Though rattler had maybe
the best consistent pocket he had so far in his seven,
starts the pressures that did happen typically were coming from
that right side of the.

but you didn't really hate to say that about, season did.
You you wanted to get that out, there, like, LOOK
i mean playing, good it's got you gotta call it

been in the preseason in week. One, now of COURSE
i want that to, change but if we're talking about
how can we, Win ruiz is a liability at the.
Moment that's WHAT i. Saw very rarely do you see
me agreeing With Pro Football focus when it comes to
great y'all know that me and them have had Some
it's a very cantankerous. Relationship but we all Saw ruiz

just consistently, whiffing not playing half, man overextending and whether
it was the run game or the past game being a.
Problem AND i do hope he fixes, that but that
that is the worst spot on the offensive line right.

Now and during the during the the the casting of the,
game the producers made point to mention, that you, know
the offensive line hadn't played together for the whole. SEASON
a lot of those guys didn't play during the preseason very.
Often i'm, like can't use that excuse For. Sear he
played as much as any other offensive lineman during the.

Preseason he should be well, Tuned.

LIKE i can get that To Like fuaga in his
second year move into a new, POSITION i can give
that to. Him But, ruiz who is what in his
fifth year at the same. Spot, Nah i'm not giving that.
Too he's especially with the type of issues he's having
because it's not like a timing thing where he's trying
to do an outside zone run and their timing is
a little bit off on their. Steps, no this is

just him getting beat one on. One it has nothing
to do With oh he needs to you, know have
better timing because he's used To Ryan ramscheck at right
Or Trevor. Penning, no it's just straight up he's losing right.
Now he's not playing as a high. Athlete remember that
was a big thing with him getting drafted was hey
may not be, strong but he's, quick he's great in.

ignore in the right side of the, line which makes

to the defensive side of. Things Of Reezra, Dunds, banks
McCoy rattler were the only ones to do one hundred
percent of the. Snaps Alba kamara had seventy nine percent
of the, snaps which only frustrates me because the man
only had like thirteen. Touches Kendre miller had fifteen percent
of the. Snaps AND i will say, this if we're
going to play ak around, eighty which they've already hinted

they wanted to. Do give me a couple of split
back sets with both running backs on the, field BECAUSE
i Think kendre is showing that he's a threat that
you have to, respect even if he's not to the
degree Of Alba, kamara and right Now New orleans needs
every threat on the field they can. Have let's see
some of those split. Situations i'd love to see some creativeness.
There you only saw seven snaps From Devin. Neil for
those fans out, There Juwan johnson only missed one, snap

was on the field the entire time offense or, sorry
pass or run With SHAHEED. A, lave etcetera being both
at eighty five. Percent so in terms of snap, counts
you didn't see a lot of that sub packaging that
we have gotten.

the guys who were on the field better perform and perform.

FIELD i know one thing that people kept bringing, up you, know,

can't SAY i hate On rattler BECAUSE i just gave

stop pretending Like Shaheed lave don't get. Open LIKE i
see a lot of these comments on, Socials well there's no.
Separation yeah there, was there's JUST nfl. Separation people are

looking for like six seven yard big. Gaps, no there's
one two yard gaps three to six. Feet that's AN nfl,
window and we have a couple of those that need
to get. Hit, overall still saying the same. THING i
still Think Spencer roller had his best game as a.
STARTER i think that you did see some of the
things that you want to see improvement, on but it's
not like the Say swade receiver corp is not getting.
Open and in that same vein push the, Ball spencer push.

It when you do have those shot, plays WHICH i
Think Kella moore should call more of here in the,
future you gotta pull that, trigger do.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
It, webside just to, COUNTER i saw one of the
social media guys was well. Known he said that they
were playing a shell, Yep and he's, like you, know
if you don't know where the shell. Is just say
you don't know where the shell. Is could they still
have attacked down the field despite the Shell.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
When you have multiple guys who run four, Threes, yeah
you can run over the top of a shell unless
you don't believe your guy can make the. Throw, now
the shell coverage is naturally going to push things underneath
because you have more guys lurking in, zone which, yeah completely.
Fair especially if we're talking about throwing into a cover
two shell or even a cover three. Shell you're going
to have guys who are already fifteen yards back waiting for.
(13:02):
It but that's why you have things like The dino,
step which is a double move to you, know lurt
coverage down and then get over the top of. Them
Bashisha heat does that very. Well he's very good at
running a dino. Step, large longer post routes with breaks
at seventeen yards fifteen. Yards there's things you can, do
is my. Point and you have to stretch the. Field
you cannot have a four yard air average whether you're,

rattler shuck or drew brees and be.

Successful you got to be able to.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Do the words and not just to make this, clear
a shell is no excuse for the coverage not being.

Attacked, agreed you change what you attack there we. Go,
yeah that's just all you.

Do like for, example just for those, watching if they
have a covered two shell two high safety, zone all,
right then you attack the hole which is middle of
the field right between those two, zones or you attack
the sidelines underneath those zones because they are unlikely to
make it all the way to the.

Side that's just an. Example what you don't do is
you don't attack the. Seams that's.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
It you adjust to what is provided to. You shell
is not a magic way to prevent all. Passes if
that was the, case everybody would run a shell defense
and nobody would have success.

Passing you heard it. Here so if you had a
good argument that The saints didn't push down the, field
and you were told by A saints influencer that you
didn't know what a shell defense means and that that
shell defense meant that they shouldn't attack the, field are
it's an excuse for them not attacking the coverage and
pushing the. Ball you now know that it is not

an excuse and they should have attacked the.

Ball every defense has a week ways it doesn't matter
what defense you. Call you can call, quarters you can
call cover, two, match you can call, man it doesn't.

Weakness now it's up to the coach and the play
caller to adjust what they're. Doing because you can't run
four verticals against the same. Step you can only run
mills concepts against certain. Coverages you got to. Adjust but
that doesn't mean you forego throwing fifteen yards. Downfield you
find a play that.

Worked, now we're not gonna say that the names of
those cooking you talking, about to be, honest and and
you look if you if you, know you, know but
we don't like, Him so we ain't giving no props over.
Here we don't like. Him, Now i'm gonna go ahead
in transition to the defense Because i'm gonna keep this very,
concise all. Right number, one we were worried about the cornerback. Play,
(15:23):
SPECIFICALLY i was discussing the McKinstry. Play there were some
THINGS i didn't like that McKinstry. DID i thought he
played a little soft in the coverage on the tight.
End but the forty four yard, play WHEN i went
back and looked at, it mckinsrey started out in press. Coverage,
now if you're playing press coverage the way he, is
it's naturally going to put you into a trail. Position

you would not ask a player to play press unless
he's expected to have safety help over the. Top, now
there's two components as to what. Happened Number, One Julian
blackman bit on on a underneath route that would have
gone To trey, McBride and he took two steps forward
to take away that, route and then he suddenly realized

that the ball was going over his. Head, okay so
you have a misstep there from the. Safety but here
is something more detailed THAT i THAT i, saw AND
i need to put it on the. Coaches here they
came out in a two tight end set on the

fourth pass. Rusher we Saw plass played pass and didn't

put anybody on the field to rush the. Pass so
guess What Kyler murray had all day to make that.
Throw in the event that you have some pass rushes
on the field that can win someone on, ones it
probably makes sense For Julian blackman to undercut that route
because he doesn't have that much. Time SO i need
the coaches that have a little bit more awareness on
that play about who's going in what you're expecting because

you didn't give your secondary any help on that. Play,
yeah moving on to them with, that and MAYBE i
should give a pall so you can say something about
it BEFORE i.

Perceive but the only Thing i'll say real quick is
when we just talked about the offense not having a
lot of, subpackages exact opposite on. Defense in, fact you
had three defensive tackles all get around seventy percent of the.
Snaps AND i know we have different opinions maybe on
Like breze and how much they should get lots of,
subbing but that if you're going to do, that you
better have the right people in the field for the right.

Play and that means if you have a guaranteed pass,
rush then you Need Carl granderson definitely on the, field
you probably Want Cameron jordan, there and that's not taking
shots At, diggs just being. Honest rump And diggs have
a lesson successful chance of reaching the quarterback Than granderson
And jordan in a pure pass.

Situation not even Taking brazil as one of the defensive
tackles in that. Play it was the fact that you
had your back up to your backup outside edge, rushers
and you had two run stoppers as your interior pass.
Rushers it was a fail all the way. Across it
was a fail that you had zero proven pass rushers
on a play where you knew that you were expecting

Past so that's still. AWARENESS i talk about the second
awareness from the, coaches AND i discussed this IS i
don't like them sugaring the gaps with the linebackers because
the integrity of this. Defense if you read about The
staley The fangio, defense it's built on the players playing.
Forward it's built on them being able to come up
(18:46):
and make plays instead of playing in, reverse which is
a more passive play. Style so when you're sugaring the
gaps with the, linebackers but then you're not sending them
their playing backwards and what did you see a lot
of times in those sugar the middle of the field
still ended up being open because the linebackers are Not
(19:08):
they're not aware enough and coverage or As real put,
it it's supposed to be like a color flash is
meant to confuse the. Quarterback but What i'm seeing is
your linebackers also need to have a bit of a
feel for. That instead they're just spot dropping to an
area and the area is still being targeted regardless of
(19:28):
having the, color the flash or, Whatever it's still a targeted.
Area the second ISSUE i have with that Is Pete
marenner has how many interceptions in his? Career The Mario
david has been paying for almost two damn. Decades how
many interceptions he got his. Career that ain't something you
want them. Doing let them play. FORWARD i need the
integrity of that defense to be more. Consistent if it's
about having them play forward instead of dropping them seventy
(19:49):
percent of the time and then blitzing, thirty maybe you
should be reversing that and blitzing them seventy percent of
the time and then dropping them, thirty so you're putting
them in those predicaments less SO i need to see
the awareness from the coaches a little bit better on.
That and yet still biggest, thing eleven teams held their
(20:10):
opponents to twenty points or less On sunday or Between
thursday And. Monday BECAUSE i didn't see yesterday's game at
the time WHEN i figured out this stat These saints
were the only team that. Lost so as much AS
i want to say the defense should have, improved absolutely
(20:32):
the offense needs to play better because if, you as you,
mentioned if you hold a team to twenty, points more
often than, not you're gonna. Win the offense needs to
play a heck of a lot. Better but that does
kind of move us into the final aspect of some
of the plays that happened with the defense were the
safeties missing. Plays, Yea and then you go and you
(20:55):
Lose Julian blackman, here who injures the same exact shoulder
that he played through last year the team last, year
asking to play through. It he injures the exact same,
shoulder finds out when he gets, home and now what
do you. Do you've Got sanker back. There you got a.
Rookie But sanker plays more like a strong safety to,

Me you've Got Jordan howden back, there and he's your
elder statesman at the. Position he played free safety most
of the time during the preseason along With, sanker and
you have those. Options but real real thinks The saints
actually have a third.

Look i'm gonna say my third option is a. Stretch
BUT i will say, this if you really are dedicated to,
winning you have a guy he's.
