Speaker 1 (00:01):
Let's talk about Hitler.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
That'll make sense later.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
I'm immaculately conceived.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I don't know what to do.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
I swear I'm not stupid take it or lead that.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Sometimes you just want to leave it.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I got to bar my mom's underwear.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
I'm bar winger underwear.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You just yeahsas the jar jar beaks. I'm not gonna
edit it out. No, I don't know, like I th
I got. It's pretty great suck. Why are you saying
with a question mark clap bitch?
Speaker 3 (00:25):
All right?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Three?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Two?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
What actually?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
And we're live. I'm Anna and I'm Jessica. This is
very yelling.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Welcome back, finally to another F one Academy race review.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's been a whole freaking month.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I know about the break before that was like months. Yeah,
it was like weeks and weeks, but it still felt
like a minute though. Yeah, it felt like a lifetime.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
I've forgotten everything I ever thought knew about f an Academy,
So it's a good thing. At the top of every episode,
we do a refresher to remind you and ourselves about
what the series is and how it works and how
it functions and what the race weekend looks like.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
So we're gonna do that refresher.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
We're gonna give you like a little before the weekend update.
We're'll talk about what happened on the weekend and all
the jazz.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah. We called it a round up last time. Ooh
a round up. Yeah, we're going to do it, and
you were like, what is round up? He's round up story?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
We should do an intro like that. We should find
music fun Academy round up. That's funny, right, is it?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Maybe our decision making is questionable at this point all
the time. Yeah, we're gonna get into our F one
Academy refresher to remind us all what the series is,
what it's all about, why it exists in the first place.
So F one Academy is a formula series. It is
(01:53):
equivalent to like the F four level of driving. They
are like more localized regional F four series around the world,
and this is the equivalent of that.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
But it is all women.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
It is all women on a I guess it was
a international stage.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, it is all female drivers.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
It is primarily women on or it's at least women
focused on the for engineers mechanics, like the whole top
to bottom, it's primarily focused on women, but all the
drivers are definitely women.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Definitely for sure, for sure, And.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
So basically the reason the series exists is because we're
trying to give female motor females in motorsport another pathway
to make it up to the higher levels of driving.
So it's just basically another way for them to get exposure,
to get experience behind the wheel, to get experience on
these tracks around the world, get experience working within a
(02:47):
team BA and for some of these women it's the
first time they're in a single seater series. Some of
these women have just like carding experience and then jump
into here. Some of them have like very little driving
experience before they get into this series. But I mean, hey,
that's what it's about. It's about getting some experience. Yeah,
I mean more times can't say the word experience.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I don't know, they're getting a little more selective, but yeah,
I mean it's primarily just they I think before we're
we'll talk about this rookie test they did a little bit,
but before you know, they're going to like karting tracks
or they're going to like Formula four stuff. That is,
you know, just trying to find people to pull in
because they are a little selective because they're trying to
take like the best of What they think is who
is going to be the most valuable person that's going
(03:29):
to absorb all this information, like who is like worth
the time which might sound a little rude, but it
is what it does.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I mean, you can't be wasting this is you can't
be wasting Susie Wolf's time.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
No, these are precious resources.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
We don't know how long the series is going to
be around for because there have been female only formula
series before.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, a w series.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, but it is extinct now, and so you know,
hopefully F one Academy lasts for a long time. But like,
these are very precious resources. We don't know how long
it's gonna last. We need to make sure that we're like,
we need to make sure that we're all like hand
selecting and picking the best of the best women because
we need them to absorb everything that they can to
(04:11):
then hopefully go on and eventually I want to see
a lady on the F one grid.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, that's the ultimate goal. Yeah, it's the ultimate goal.
I mean Susie Wolf put it best, and she said
something in the F one the Academy series. She said,
we want to be a movement, not a moment, and
I'm like, yep, I agree so about the cars because
I know you care and want to know I care
(04:37):
and want to know everyone uses the same car in
F one Academy. It's a spec series, so they're all
on a pretty level playing field when it comes to
the machinery that they're actually using.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
It is a.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Tautus F four T four two one chassis. It's a
lot of letters numbers. It's powered by an Audio Technica
turbo engine on Parly tires. And these F one Academy
cars are a little bit different from the F four
cars in that they feature a unique arrow package which
has modified front and rear wings compared to like a
(05:11):
standard Formula four car.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Oh, and so the reason that they it's aspect series
is because they're really trying to focus on driver development. Yeah,
the series, like the F F one, is about drive.
The driver should basically be developed by the time they
get to F one, more or less supposed to be
supposed to be. Give me Antonelli different story. No, I'm
just saying he's a striking.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
He's a baby.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
But they should be more or less developed by the
time they get to F one, and then it's more
about like the machinery, the technology the cars themselves.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Well, because it's like F one is like the pinnacle
of motorsport for like your driver, and like that's like
what can I possibly do to a car to make
it go fast, like the technicol as fast as possible?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, but yeah, so this series is not about the
technical side of it. It is purely about driver development
again going back to that experience. We want the drivers
to get driving these cars on these tracks within the teams.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah. Plus that's also a way easier thing to do.
Like whenever F one, you underestimate how much money it
takes to run a single F one team. There's a
lot of employees to pay for so when you have
a Spec series, the cost of it is way lower.
That's another reason. Like with F two and F three
the cars are very like Also they're Spec series, so you're.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Not spending the money to develop the car.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
But you also don't have the budget. Like you do
not have the money, and so it's a lot like
you said, it's focused on like racecraft, developing those like
skills that then you can then take to like larger
motor sports.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
So we'll talk about the teams or mind everybody. There
are six teams. Each team has three drivers on the
grid and they're supported by various different sponsors, but also
some of them are supported by some of the F
one teams, so like Mercedes sponsors are driver, McLaren sponsors
a driver, Yeah, Racing Bulls or.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, all the F one teams, every single F one
team sponsor, there's a driver. Anyone who's not sponsored by
a Formula one team is sponsored by one of their
major like F one Academy's major sponsors, but they're all
under the teams that you've probably seen before in Formula
the two and Formula three. I'm like Premline Campos.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yeah, and then some of the other major sponsors you
might be familiar with, like Gatorade, Tommy Hillfiger, Charlotte Tillbury,
those kind of teams.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
So of the eighteen drivers on the grid, seventeen of
them are permanent, full time drivers for the season for
F one Academy.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So that eighteenth.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Seat is on the high Tech TGR team and it
is a wildcard seat. So basically every round of the
Fun Academy season, they pull in somebody to fill that
wog card seat. So a lot of times they'll pick
somebody who's more local to where the track is. It
hasn't always been the case, but it often is. So
(07:52):
if they're driving in what was one of the places
when they were driving in Canada? I think it was
like a Canadian driver, Yeah, yeah, for instance, or like
the one of the where were they at when they
were in they were in the desert somewhere?
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Was it Saudi Arabia?
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, they were Saudi Arabia.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
They it was a.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Saudi Arabian driver that they pulled to fill that wild
card seat. So this is in the wild card seat
is a way to give just one extra lady an
opportunity to see what she can do behind the wheel.
And then oftentimes we've seen that the wild card drivers
from the previous season will get a full time seat
(08:31):
the next season, and part of that is because that
these teams have been able to see what the girls
can do in these in the actual car itself and
not just seeing them like on a carding track or something.
So the race weekend format, they have up to two
free practice sessions uh and then they will do a
qualifying session and then they do two races. One of
(08:52):
the races is a reverse grid order for the top
eight qualifiers, so and then the other the second race
is a just regular one through eighteen qualifying. That's how
you start on the grid, and so for the reverse grid,
it'll be so like say, if you qualified first for
(09:13):
the reverse grid, you would start eighth yep.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
And it's just like that just for the top eight.
Everyone else starts where they qualified.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Before we get into going over Singapore or going into
the weekend. F one Academy did something different. They did
this the first time they've done this, and they did
what they've called a rookie test. So what it was
was because going into Singapore, it's a street circuit, and
you can't like test or practice at the street circuit
because oftentimes to the Fun Academy they will like when
(09:40):
we were going to Zandvort, the girls actually went and
tested at Zandvort before the event for the.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Race weekend, for the race weekend. So we cannot do
that with street circuits because they're temporary circuits. They are
put up for the race and then taken down after.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
So instead they actually tested at CIRCUITO de Navara which
is in Spain and along that, so along with that
the normal EFN Academy girls testing there and you know,
just getting some more experience behind the wheel. They also
did what they've now called a rookie test. So what
is this rookie test. It is a two day program
(10:16):
that gives eighteen invited drivers equal machinery and opportunity to
showcase why they deserve to have a full time seat
in the twenty twenty six Atlantic Academy season. And so
what did it actually do and how did it run?
So on the first day, the rookies were embedded with
teams during official testing. So basically, while the official testing
of Ethlenic Academy girls were going on, these eighteen invited
(10:38):
drivers were then embedded with these teams where they got
to take part in briefings, engineering sessions, plus research led
physical and cognitive assessments by official partner more than equal
to profile, strength, endurance and cognition. So they also had
the EFLEN Academy girls who were currently on the grid
take part in this as well. And essentially what they
did is they were like building profile about like their
(11:01):
cognitive abilities, their strengths, like where they were in their career,
and it sounds like they're trying to build profiles that
they can then later apply to new drivers, Like how okay,
like this is for profile A. This is the best
plan we've seen, Like this is like the plan we've
laid out for that and you fit this of the
you know, just trying to like streamline the process of
(11:22):
how can we help female drivers. So on day two
they had six hours of testing and it was like
two three hour sessions and basically, you know, they're in
the same car and they have three sets of Prelli
tires and to manage across the entire day and that's
a long time. It doesn't sound like it's a long time,
but that is a long time the drive race car.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, I mean just the one three hour session is
a lot.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Yeah. So who qualified to take part in this test.
It was drivers who haven't raced in any F one
Academy weekends, which actually excluded any wild car drivers. So
I was a little surprised by that. But if you
have taken part, like if you've been on the grid
for F one Academy, if you've been a wild car driver,
you could not take part in this. You were not invited.
(12:08):
But when you think about it, I guess you, when
you're a wildcard driver, you have an entire weekend of
experience and of combat time, you're.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Embedded with the team. It's the same, it's the same
sort of experience that these others.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Exactly like experience wise, you're not missing out on. If anything,
they might be missing out on some profiles. But honestly,
with inviting eighteen drivers then also having your current driver,
there's a lot of drivers to put profiles with. So,
like we said, if the people who qualified, they could
not have participated in an F one Academy weekend and
they had to hold the appropriate FIA International Circuit license,
(12:42):
which is a b C or D or a national
license with proof of competence. So basically something saying like
I know how to drive this, I can do something
with a car, I can drive it. And so the
overall messages like why does it matter? Why did they
start doing this? I think that the reason they really
started to do this is because they really wants something
that a tool to actually help them decide who should
(13:05):
we pick, like to actually have data, something like more
data driven rather than like yeah they're good, you know
you have like you know, like we said, they're but
in these profiles social.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Statistical information, so like you're compiling a database basically of
all sorts of information about each individual driver, like not
just like height and weight and cognitive ability, but also
like how they performed in other series they've driven in,
how are they performing over this weekend?
Speaker 1 (13:33):
You see where their strength and strengths and weaknesses are.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
And then if over a period of time you collect
that data and then you continue to track each girls
like how they perform throughout F one academy seasons or
like further down in their careers. So it could be
to where you know, you're collecting this data for ten
years and we can show you, hey, this particular woman
started here ten years later, this is what she's achieved
(13:57):
and where she's ended up, and we can show you
like the success and like, not all these drivers are
going to be successful. Not every single one of them
is going to go on and continue to race in
motorsport or continue to achieve at high levels in motorsport.
So if you can identify some like common like something
(14:19):
of like statistical significance across the people who have been successful,
then that gives you at least a starting point and
a reference point for selecting future drivers to give opportunities
to because they can say, okay, hey, well you have
characteristics that match these other one of these other a
profile by exactly, you have data that matches one of
(14:41):
these types of protes files that we can track and
see have gone to be successful, so that means you
may be a really good fit.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
But yeah, So essentially they are just trying to have
a more data driven way into who they're going to
be choosing to go on to the next year. So
it sounds to me that they'll probably do this test
at the end end of the year trying to decide
who they're going to take for the next season. And
like you said, it's going to be a tool that
they use in the future to really just start harnessing
in and zeroing in only those decisions. So before we
(15:14):
go into Singapore, we were going, let's recap where we
stood after zandwork. So the championship picture basically at this
time it was still Dorion Pon, Maya Vog and Chloe Chambers.
They were still leading the way in the championship with
Ella Lloyd, Alisha Pelmouski and Nina Gateman. Technically at this
time they were mathematically in the mix for the championship.
(15:36):
But the bigger picture there is they're in their own
little rookie battle to decide who's the top dog, who's
the top rookie here, And you know how we love
a rookie report and we love talking about our rookies.
One of the biggest storylines going into the weekend was
how Dorion Pon had a twenty point lead over Maya
Vogue and mathematically it was cap she was capable essentially
(15:58):
of winning the championship this weekend in Singapore. If she
hit all the right Yeah, she hit every single thing perfect. Technically,
she would have had a forty point lead and there's
only thirty nine points available in Las Vegas, so mathematically
she would have been champion. So that was a storyline
going into it. A lot of people asked her about it,
and she just was playing it cool and she would
(16:20):
just like, it's one thing at a time, don't get
ahead of ourselves. Maya was going into Singapore after having
a lot of success in the round before in Zandvort,
she is doing her best to keep the title fight alive.
She suffered a lot in Montreal where she had a
lot of mechanical failure, so she's kind of just been
playing catch up for like months. At this point after Zandwort,
she is back in the championship contention for sure, and
(16:42):
then going into Singapore, she is hungry, while Chloe Chambers
unfortunately hungry not hungary, Yeah, hungry, not hungary. But Chloe
Chambers was going into Singapore really really really needing to score,
like win everything at this point because after her DNS
(17:02):
in zanfor which was pretty devastating. I mean, she now
like she went from being in that title fight to
like barely being in the title fight going into Singapore.
The team battles Premo Racing. They led the standings over
Campos an MP Motorsport. Prima also had the chance to
secure the team championship if they could score eighty seven
points by the end of the weekend in Singapore, so
(17:25):
they also have the chance. So we've got Dorian Pond
and Prima. We're going for it. Where they're trying they
could almost secure it. Some things to consider. Going into
the weekend with only a single forty minute practice session,
Singapore left little margin for air on its nineteen corner layout,
rookies faced an even tougher challenge because there's no prior
(17:46):
testing here. They've never driven this track before. This will
be the very first time they've done it, unless they've
done something on a simulator. But again, there's still no
on track experience here. Now, the person who was really
like thrown for is Megan Bruce and you've probably never
heard of her before. Well if you watched it this weekend,
you would have heard of her. But she had to
(18:07):
step in for an injured Ava and Agnostiats to make
her series debut because Ava has a foot fracture and
so she got So Megan gets called on Monday, Hey,
we need you in Singapore. You want to be there?
And then Tuesday she's there. So poor girl had like
no time to prepare at all.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
And Singapore is rough because it's so hot and humid.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, so some information about Megan. She is currently in
GB four and she did. She also took part in
the rookie test that they had, so that was another
reason that they called her. So she had to just
show up and show out.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
They were like, hey, we know you.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Hey, you did. So she finished in the top four
in each session at the rookie test, So they were
really impressed with her. And the biggest takeaway going into
the weekend is limited running and the switch to nighttime
qualifying put adaptability under the spotlight because basically the practice
session was in the daytime, the qualifying session is at night.
And you might think, why does that matter. It's because
(19:11):
of track temperatures. Everything changes, so you're going from.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Super hot to a lot cooler.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yeah, so really it's like you're practicing for to it's
different conditions.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
It doesn't really do much for the qualifying because anything
you learn on the daytime track is kind of like
not super helpful when it comes to the tires and
managing the tires and driving on them.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
At night exactly kind of don't do Jack, No, I
mean I think the race was during the daytime. Well
they had two races, but still so it left you know,
the rookies at a very clear disadvantage compared to the
experienced front runners, who you know, they have race at
this track before and they have at least some experience here.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Let's talk about practice. There was only one practice session
this weekend. It's about forty long and it was a
dry track, so that was good.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Yeah, and it was during the daytime, uh huh, which
was kind of not great for qualifying later, but yeah,
you do what you can.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
You know, they also are working around the other series
that are racing on the track, because it ain't just them, no,
So our top three finishers in practice were Dorian Pond
and P one, Maya vug in P two, and Alicia
Palmowski in P three. Chloe Chambers came in P four,
keeping yourself kind of up in the times. Ella Lloyd
(20:31):
was in P five. Our wild card debut. Lisa bill
Billard was at P six, and there was some early
drama for Rafaela Ferrera whose engine let go on the
installation lap like the first lap. Oh okay, ending her session,
I was like installation, what are we installing?
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:50):
That yeah, that was pretty horrible for her because she
she got like no practice and it was pretty pretty devastating.
So but Lisa was super impressive, Like we said, she's
a wild card and like even though it's just practice,
but it's getting P six, it's still pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
So yeah, now let's talk about qualifying. Yeah, it was
hot and human, which Singapore is expected.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
It just is.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
It was a night session.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Under the lights it looked cool, yeah, and so the
grip on the track was improving as the session went on,
as a lot of times it does.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Oh yeah. Every time they were going across that track,
it's like new fastest, new fastest, new fast because you're.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Warming in the tie up the tires, you're laying down
more rubber and the track will be drying up if
there's any like humidity like absorbed into it or sitting
on top, and it will kind of dry up. Our
top three finishers and qualifying were Maya Voog and p
one during pond PTU and Chloe Chambers in P three.
We did have a red flag. El Lloyd brought it
out after clipping the wall, which ended her early charge.
(21:53):
Uh And there was some traffic that proved costly for
a couple drivers on their final laps, including Alicia Palmowski
and is it Arian.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Nobles Ariello Nobles are we yella hot Dog?
Speaker 1 (22:03):
I was close.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
There were no penalties, which is kind of surprising, pretty
shocking because I honestly, I fully expected to see a
lot of people on the wall there.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
I feel like there were a lot of penalties. The
last round was it Xandford or the one before there
was another rich like four hundred penalties out the penalties penalties.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Oh no, it was Nicole Havda got like one hundred penalty.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Yeah, I like, who was that? I remember somebody was wow.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
I remember it was Nicole Havada because I was like,
ah girl. So some other key results from qualifying. We
had el Lloyd recovered for P four, showing strong pace
despite her incident.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
You don't play man. That girl is like the rookie feel.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I feel like she clipped that wall and said keep
it going.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
She said no. George Russell ended up setting a great
qualifying lap after he hit the wall. I'm gonna keep going,
you know.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
It just has to knock some sense into you. Yeah,
clip the wall and you're like, okay, shit, let me
get by together.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Sorry, okay. And then our wild cut entry.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Lisa Billiard impressed with P five, the best qualifying result
for a walk card this season. Yeah, and Alicia Palmoonski
finished Pete six with Housman engagement close behind. So the
biggest takeaways from qualifying were obviously Maya Vog and P
one kind of keeping that momentum rolling. And then we
had Chloe Chambers and during Palm finishing right behind her.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
They like own that ass uh, and.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Then Ricky oh Lloyd kind of proving that she's still
fighting up there. So I remember she she was the
one that uh one hundred podiums.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Yeah, she's been.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Doing really well this season, really well, really impressive. And
then yeah, the wild card entry getting P five qualifying
that just like ride on the pace, right on the
money out the gate is like nuts. It's like, Okay,
she'll definitely remember her name, Lisa Billard. She'll be around
next year for sure.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Well, we will talk about race one and again, this
is the reverse grid race. And as a reminder, like
we said, the top eight qualifiers are then reversed on
the grid, so if you qualified eighth, you were first.
If your first, your eighth. So the conditions for this,
it was a dry night race with two safety car interruptions,
so we'll talk about those safety cards in a minute.
Our podium, let me tell you, I was so excited
(24:10):
about this. It was Leah Block and yes I love Leah.
It was Maya Vug and then Chloe Chambers. So we
had us say us say two USA drivers, two American
drivers on the podium, let's go for Leah, I am too.
I just she has been She is a driver that
(24:32):
does not have a lot of single seater experience. She
her background is rallying, and so she struggled a lot
because she's just like she was so natural at rally
that her transition to single seater was a little more
difficult that she anticipated, even though she kind of showed
promise really early on. It just she's had incidents that
weren't her fault, and so it was just nice to
(24:53):
see that she got her first podium last race in Zanfort,
and I'll see her actually win a race was super
exciting to say. Some of the key moments from race one,
there was a start delay. The race was pushed back
due to a barrier repair at turn twelve and thirteen.
I guess there was an incident with one of the
other racing series so they had to take the time
to repair that, so there was a delay. Lap one
(25:14):
was crazy, So we had Leah blog, you know, she
had poll and we had Ariel Nobles right behind her
and going into turn one, Noble is Nobles is immediately
challenging Leah. They both end up going off track, they
both go wide, but it was kind of Lea didn't
really have a choice because like, if she didn't, she
(25:35):
was gonna hit her. So she kind of didn't have
a choice but to follow Ariol where she went. Then
when they rejoined the track, Leah was up front and
she kept it from there there was put her foot
in it. Yeah, she was like, uh, this is a mine.
Another incident on lap one, unfortunately we had Nicole Hobda.
She hit the wall, triggering safety car number one bless it.
(25:57):
So around lap four to six, Chloe Chamber starts to
attack felt Emma felba Meyer for p three but locked
up and which allowed Mayo Vogue through. So she then
passes Nobles for p two. So, like we said, Maya,
she qualified first, which means she's starting eighth. By lap
six she's second. Ferrari can't tell her. She can't tell
(26:22):
her nothing. She's Dutch. They're built different. Telling you these
Dutch drivers are built different. So unfortunately Alicia Palmowski around
lap nine she just had an incident where her car
just took itself out into the barrier. It was really
weird because it wasn't you didn't really see her make
(26:42):
any obvious mistake. I guess she took too much curb
and it looks like that car just throws itself into
the wall. It's ayat it just like literally, yeah, it
just eated itself in there, which is why we got
safety car number two. So the restarts, this was first
like the first time Lee has really been leading, and
she nailed the restart Son she nailed them.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Locke yeah, locket as Mandy says, she's five, she says
clock it yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Also on the restar, we had some battles between Chloe
Chambers and Ariol Nobles side by side so which ended
up leading Chloe to taking P.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Three.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
My girl, my other girl, they're all my girls, other girl.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Who's the main chick for YAO, who's the main chick?
Speaker 2 (27:27):
So the penalties, who's the side chicks? I don't. I mean,
I'm always rooting for Leah Block, but I'm always voted.
I'm always rooting for Chloe Chambers. I've all I've been
rooting for Chloe Chambers since the start.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
It you.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
So for penalties. Ella Lloyd who finished P four on track,
but she dropped down to P seven because she did
get a five second penalty, and Alba Larson was also
handled a ten second penalty for contact with Billard. So
back to our title contenders for race two, Maya woogs
run to p two close the gap in the standings
(28:07):
like that was extremely crucial for her and it's really
interesting to see too, because the reason we have this
reverse grid race is so not only does it give
you know, some of the maybe the midfield pack more
of a chance for some wins, but it's also really
good experience for the front runners to know what it's
like to have to go through the pack. So really
it's like you could look at it either way. So
(28:28):
Maya does continue and continues and continues to prove herself.
Chloe Chambers returned to the podium after her Zandvortz setback,
which was really exciting, and then Dorian Pond recovered points
after a difficult midpack battle, finishing just outside the top three.
So some of the reactions obviously, Leah Block was stoked,
super excited. She said, it feels amazing to win here
(28:48):
in Singapore with two safety cars and so much pressure.
I'm so proud of this moment. If she should be,
I mean, she nailed it, and she'd just be super
proud of herself. So the biggest takeaway is Leo Block
took her first ever F one Academy win with a
composed drive under the lights, so dramatic of Singapore. Mayo
(29:08):
Vugg's recovery to Pete two kept her in the championship hunt,
and Chloe Chambers added another podium to her season, while
Ario Nobles delivered her best yet result with p four.
We will now move on to Race two. A lot
more dramatic, son, a lot more dramatic or daughter? Hmm,
(29:32):
you said a lot more dramatic son? Oh or daughter?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Child?
Speaker 2 (29:38):
A man, a woman?
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Okay, moving on.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
So the conditions for this race, it started off with
a dry track, but they were like, ooh, them are
some clothes in the distance, so they were really watching
the weather. And then the rain did in fact come
and it was what the fat.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Down awake man, James Hillary Duff is coming out.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
That's awes I saw that.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
No, this is not sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yes, I trained anyway. So, like we said, the conditions,
it was dried, then it wasn't. Man So there were
some but that being said, there were some to the story.
That's it. It didn't rain, It wasn't raining. And then
it was. That's pretty much all that happened, whether weather
happens crazy no. So there was some mixed tire calls
and it actually was an extremely dramatic last lap. So
(30:30):
our podium. Maya Vogue took the win. She passes Dorian
Pondell on the last lap.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
It's crazy side I love it, dramatic, ooh finish.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
It's actually on Singapore, a track you cannot overtake on easily.
It was dramatic. It had all the flare we love. See.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
If you need a reason to watch F one Academy.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
I mean, if nothing else, you'll see some overtakes, dude,
I promise you will see race side by side, racing
tire to tire. So Dorion pond took second place, followed
by Ella Lloyd, who took p three, just adding another
podium to her belt.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Got girl.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
She she's gonna be one of the championship contenders next
year because she was a rookie. Let me tell you
heard Alicia Palmowski. It's gonna be crazy look out.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
So some of the key moments in race two. So
in lap one, Dorion Pon got the launch and took
the lead into turn one as Voge struggled to cover
off the inside. So you know, at the very start
Dorion said thank you next and didn't look too great
at first. So in some of the early laps we
had Ella Lloyd once again. Ella and Chloe. We Chambers
(31:41):
just keep finding each other.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Are they bff?
Speaker 2 (31:44):
That'd be great if they were, I don't know. And
eventually it was a three way fight because then Mfelpemeyer
three wide trying to figure out who's gonna go get
P three. They weren't playing and Chloe especially this week
and was driving extremely aggressive, sometimes maybe a little over ambitious.
She locked up quite a few times in both races
really because you know, she's trying so hard to recast.
(32:06):
I mean, she really looked like this was gonna this
could be her championship, and then having that setback in
Zandvoord is just it's really hard to recover when you
get no points. You know, it's one thing to okay,
to make up a few, but to get none while
your title contenders are getting like twenty five points because
they were full Formula one points in that race.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
And there are so few races in the season, yes,
every single result matters.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
That much so Chloe wasn't playing it was nuts.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
She put her foot in it.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Yeah, and then unfortunately on lap four Leah Block clipped
the barrier and dropped to the rear of the race.
But you know that's okay because she won race one.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
You know, we'll take it.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
And it happens at Singapore and it was a crazy race.
So with six laps to go, that's when the rain
goes hi, how are you? And it just shows up
and it gets super intense, and so pau Mouse he
gambled on wet while the leader stayed on slicks. So
it was a really big decision because you're like, okay,
I have a few but.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
It's only a couple of laps. But but how but
you never are you gonna be on the slicks?
Speaker 2 (33:11):
And how so are you gonna have to take it?
Are you gonna stop it now? Like the pit stops
take forever. It's not like in a F one where
they're like two seconds two and a half seconds long.
So it was rough. That being said, though, Nicole Hover
Haverda unfortunately while the rain was happening, she ended up wrecking,
which caused a safety car, which then neutralized the field
(33:32):
for a late sprint, so I mean, this is all
happening with six laps to go, so really the last
lap is the last racing lap. They had six.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Laps to go.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Here's some more rain.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Boom, huh, let's do a pit stop for new tires.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Boom, like don don don, and then you know the
and then a crash boom, and you're like, what the hell,
what's going on? So Mayo Voog and Dorean Pond both
chose to not pit, so they were on their slicks
and they're like, this is what I'm doing. Hold on,
for dear life, do you this is the The radio
messages were very funny. At one point I heard they
were like box box. I think it was Hadrian. They're
like boxbox. She's like, literally, no, too late, and I'm
(34:08):
gonna doing that too late. Anyway, it was too late
so she couldn't have acculate, So that was some of it.
Was very funny. We're doing that she does know now.
The craziest thing, I'm like, that's so dramatic. It's the
last lap of the race. That's like the end. That's
when the safety car went in, so it's basically just
on the last lap.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
It's a whole a last lap sprint.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Yup and remember Maya Vug, she had Poul She started
on the grid first and then Dorian Pond got the
better of her and took it over, and then at
the last lap Maya said I'm taking that back and
in a very dramatic fashion, passes her and just maintains
it to the line. And I'm like, dang man, that
(34:48):
was some like racing though crazy, that was insane. I
actually was shocked. I was like, wow, is everyone had
me putting out these clips? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (34:59):
I followed them Instagram, but I never see their posts
in my feed, and I'm just like, I need to
see more racing highlight clips because that's the kind of
stuff when you see cool shit like that three wide
in the turn or like you know, taking over on
the lap, like going for the move late on last
lap and taking it like that's the kind of stuff
that you're like.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
Yeah, I eat that up and I lock it, love it.
Love that so exactly, it's a new tick.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
It's like fuck So for our title contenders, Mayo Vug
cut further into Pond's lead, keeping the championship alive into
the final round.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Let's go I love it down to the last three
sound to the y're eat that up.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Thrian Pond banked vital points but saw her margin reduce
so again, going into Singapore, she had a twenty point lead.
She did not anymore. It was down to I believe
it's eight or nine points. Chloe Chambers stayed in touch
with another top four finish, so she's adding more. But
at this point in time, I would not expect the
(36:04):
title fight is the title fight, man, it's Dorion and
Maya Crazy. The biggest takeaways, Like we said, Maya Vogue
proved her resilience with a bold last lap move that
kept her title bid alive. Dorrion PN showed race long
control but was denied at the last moment, while Ella
Lloyd continued to underline her growth with another podium. This
also changes who our top three are it. For the
(36:28):
longest time, it was Dorion Pon, Maya Vogue and Chloee Chambers.
It is now Dorian Pon, Mayo Vogue and Ella Lloyd
Crazy damn Ella Ella jo did that? She did that
clocket whatever that is. I'm not doing I can't do that,
I'm whatever.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
So every episode we like to highlight the wild Car
driver and learn a little bit more about her and
kind of her driving history and stuff like.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
So we'll talk a little bit about Lisa Billard.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
So she, like we mentioned earlier, joined the Fun Academy
this round for the wald Card entry for high Tech
g High Tech tg R. Let's go mess me up
every time high Tech TGR. So this Waldcott entry was
supported by Gatorade.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yes, the car looks super cool. It's like orange and
just looks like it looks like a racing car. Just
love it. Which I know you're like, what does that mean? Well, honestly,
I love simple livery, so look it up. Yeah, I'm like,
I can't stand when a livery has four hundred damn
stickers on it or four hundred sponsors. And I know
sponsors are important. I'm just saying I love a simple livery,
that's all.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
So a little bit of her background. She is sixteen
years old. She's the youngest Waldcar driver in FN Academy history.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Get a girl.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Yeah, she's the first female winner of the French Junior
Karting Championship wow, and is a member of the Alpine
Racer program.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah. Oh yeah, that's right, because I think est Oconn
has supported her publicly before. Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Yeah, he was. I think they're like at the races
and stuff.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
YEA was like watching because they have like I guess
they share roots of where they like grown up and
like carded and stuff. So he's familiar with her and
he's talked about her.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
So she impressed at the twenty twenty five F one
Academy Rookie Test that we talked about earlier and with
having the second fastest overall time among the rookies that
were testing, and she entered Singapore with backing from Gatorade
featuring a special sixtieth anniversary livery Yeah you said. We
said that she's got shares roots with Sabon o'conn who
(38:39):
drives for hass and F one, and they share roots
in Norman Dy carding.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
That was cool. I love seeing the F one drivers
out there, Like I saw Lewis Hamilton there after race too,
and he's like standing with Suzie Wwol for Ferrari and
I'm like, I just love to see them out there. Yeah,
it's fun.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
I like when the guys support the the girl drivers.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Yeah. I've seen Kimmi out there before too, so it's
pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
So just recapping Lisa's performance in Singapore and qualifying, she
finished P five, which is the best result for a
wild card entry so far this season. In Race one
she battled inside the top five but finished P eight,
and Race two she fought through the raid and a
late safety car, finishing just outside the points in P eleven.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
So overall a pretty strong performance for her for sure.
I mean in finishing P eight she got points any point.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
So, I mean the biggest takeaway again is just like
her performance really underlines and highlights the purpose of eth
What Academy in trying to shine a spotlight on young
female driving talent and give them some experience and just
see what they can do when they're given the opportunity.
And I mean she I think delivered on the opportunity
(39:51):
she was given. So yeah, I wouldn't I wouldn't be
shocked to see her next year.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
So we will do our standings update. It's basically know
where are we now that Singapore is over with? So
the top five in the drivers Championship we have Dorion Pon,
Mayo vug Ella, Lloyd, Chloe Chambers and Alicia Palmowski And
again so that the gap that was twenty points going
into the weekend is now nine points. Razy ray ooh crazy.
(40:26):
So the team championship at this point, Prima Racing is
more than likely like that, it's gonna be theirs. Now
the battle to watch will be between MP Motorsport and
Campos Racing who MP Motorsport has two hundred and eight
points and Campos has one hundred and eighty seven, So
there's still some wiggle room there to see what we
can do and like I like we I just said
(40:49):
the biggest takeaway here is that the title fight going
into Las Vegas, it's in dramatic fashion, down to the wire.
It's going to be between Dorion Pon in Mayovogue with
just nine points between them. Ella Lloyd has really proven
herself to be that rookie, that girl to be watching
out for, so it'll be excited to see how she
(41:11):
fares in Las Vegas and to see how she might
battle with her fellow rookie Licia Pelmowski and even Nina
Gateman who's also a rookie who has really proven herself
to us this season. And that's pretty much what we
get to look forward to in a few weeks.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
You know how they do, like the the Motorsport awards,
like and they give like Rookie of the Year is
one of the awards that they give.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Out or do they do F one Academy ones.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
I was trying to I was.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Starting to look that out because I'm like, for Rookie
of the Year, everyone's like talking about Isaac Isaac Cadjar
from Formula one, and I'm like, our F one Academy.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
Rookie is eligible for that award?
Speaker 2 (41:49):
I mean probably not if F two and F three aren't.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
Yeah, but I don't know.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
I don't know either. I don't know enough about that.
We'll find out before Vegas. I know.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
I was just curious because I'm like, let's put a
girl up in contention. My girl Ella, I love not
playing nom M. She's doing great, she is doing really good.
So now we're going to spotlight one of our permanent
seat drivers. We do a different driver every episode, and
(42:18):
so this time we're gonna be talking about Leah Block. Yes,
your girl, Leo Block. Did you pick her because she
won her first races? He did?
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Okay, I did, and I did.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
I did, I did and I did.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
I just did. So Leah Block races for Art Grand
Prix and is supported by Williams. She had back to
back milestones with her first career podium in the last
round and then her first F one Academy win here
in Singapore. Get a Girl, Get a Girl. She had
controlled restarts and race pays through two safety cars and
held off late pressure from title contenders in this round.
(42:55):
So just some background info about Leah Block. She comes
from like racing royalty, almost like she's got the pedigree girl.
So she is American and she's in her second one
Academy season. She is the daughter of the late Ken Block,
who was a renowned rally driver and Hoonigan co founder.
(43:17):
He is very well known. Oh my god throughout the
motorsport community.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Like it's insane, Like, and when that accident happened, it's
like the racing world for a moment, everyone stopped. Yeah,
it was insane. When I went to California and we
went to this like car museum, there's an entire section
of just Ken Block stuff, I mean literally all his cars,
all this stuff. It's crazy. So like, yeah, she Leah
(43:43):
comes from, like you said, like rally royalty, and she's
got a deep rally slash rally cross background. She's known
for car control, adaptability and comfort on low grip services.
Prior to joining FWN Academy, she began karting at age eleven,
then can in rally extremely and rally cross and made
(44:03):
history as the youngest ever American Rally Association champion in
the open two deputy class. Yes, and not only did
she win that that was not like a girl's only thing.
So she went into this there are guys there, boys there,
whatever they ages are, and like she won it. And
I think from what I remember hearing of she won
almost every single event. Like she just was very naturally
(44:27):
gets she's like maximur staff and growing up but for rally, yeah,
growing up with a dad like that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
So her F one Academy career in twenty twenty four,
that was her rookie season, there's a little learning curve.
She showed some like flashes of speed, including two p
four finishes at Marina Bay, while adapting from her off
road rally driving to single seaters. And so this year
in twenty twenty five, there was a change in consistency
(44:58):
and race execution leading to that led to her first
podium and then eventually first win this round.
Speaker 1 (45:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
So, I mean girl put in the work, she put
in the effort and really took like developed yeah, and
really just there was like a steep just kind of
like who is this newly a block?
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Oh? Yeah. She was one of the storylines in F
one b Academy, the Netflix series, and you know, you
really get to see her struggle with being so gifted
and just naturally just naturally gives it. It's like second
nature to her when it comes to rally and then
like what skills do I take from rally? What can
I apply to single seater racing? And so she just
(45:34):
had like a learning curve that showed like really like
natural born skills. And so it's nice to see that
she's in her last season in F one Academy, you
can see the actual progression. So it's nice to be
able to see like, Okay, maybe she didn't have the
best first season she wanted, but she's definitely had a
way better season in her in her second season. So
(45:54):
it'd be exciting to see where she goes after this.
I wonder if she'll continue with single seaters.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
Will we shall see?
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Yeah, So, looking ahead our next round of F one
Academy is going to be in Las Vegas. It's going
to be November twentieth through the twenty second, and it
will be night racing under the neon. Very dramatics Vegas
(46:21):
as a.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yeah, it is a street circuit, and we know how
you feel about she hates a street circuit.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
I don't mind Vegas the streets. I think it'll be
fun this they'll be fun to watch. Yeah, and I
mean I remember I have good memories of Vegas last
year because they want they get all the drain covers secured,
Carlos science up. Yeah, we don't have the debut year.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
Yeah, oh I.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Remember that any Sorry. So this is actually f one
Academy's first visit to Las Vegas, so they've never been
here before, so you know, really excited to it's going
to be so and it fits. It's such a dramatic season.
It is down to just a few points between Maya
and Dorian, So like what place to better finish in
(47:03):
dramatic fashion than Las Vegas. So something to expect. It's
gonna be tough. So we we have long straights into
heavy breaking and cool night temperatures that make tire warm
up tricky. So there's gonna be a lot of low
grip and then street circuit bumps are always fun. You
have the cars hopping over the curbs. So and if
for those who don't know, even though I think we've
(47:26):
talked about it, there is no DRS in F one Academy,
So it's gonna be you got to get that slipstream
and you got to hit your breaking zones and it
will be interesting. But also because this is the first
time if one Academy has been here, which means even
our veterans don't have that knowledge that they normally do
(47:46):
going the tracks that rookies haven't been to. So everyone's
gonna be on some like on that equal playing field essentially. So,
like we've talked about multiple times throughout this episode, the
championship watch will be between Dorian Pond and Mayo Vogue.
Pond has one hundred and fifty one points, Mayo book
has one hundred and forty two, a nine point difference.
It's going to be cinema. It better be.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
All this hype, it better better be.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
And we also look forward to watching Ella Lloyd, the
rookie who continues to rise, and we'll just see what
happens and that pretty much wraps it up. I Oh, right,
who am I gonna put my money on? Let's put
our money on people? Oh, who's gonna get it?
Speaker 1 (48:29):
God?
Speaker 2 (48:29):
It could go either way. I'm going with Maya. It
could go. I mean the momentum, I just feel like,
I don't they could be either one of them.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Dorion's got that dog he does, but they both do.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Dude, It's like, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I mean, it's it's Vegas. You gotta bet, you gotta
put money on somebody. Okay, I'm going Dorion.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
I'm gonna go Maya. Okay, I'm gonna go with the Dutch.
That feels like a say bed But I don't, I
don't know. I'm scared. Yeah. That pretty much wraps up
our weekend roundup of F one Academy at Singapore. If
you have not already watched F one The Academy, it
is out on Netflix. It has been since May. We
(49:10):
have reviewed it. It is not out yet. Pretty sure
last time I said it would be out. But I'm
not known to be a truth teller.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
I feel like you should never ever promise no.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
