Speaker 1 (00:01):
Let's talk about Hitler.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
That'll make sense later.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
I'm immaculately conceived.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I don't know what to do.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
I swear I'm not stupid.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Take it or lead that. Sometimes you just want to
leave it.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I got to bar my mom's underwear and bar Winger underwear.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You just yeah, Misa lights the dar Jar beaks. I'm
not gonna edit it out.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I guess I got. It's pretty great to suck. Why
are you saying with a question mark clap bitch? All right,
three two.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
One, actually, and we're alive. I'm Anath and I'm Jessica,
and this is why you're yelling. Welcome back to another
F one Academy race to review. Would Oh my goodness,
it's been a pretty month forever, I think.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I think Alice Powell said eleven weeks and I was like,
oe lood. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
So today we are recapping round five at Circuit zan
Boor in the Netherlands. We'll kick things off with a
quick refresher about F one Academy, just kind of would
it is the race series in general, just just in
case you.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Don't know, eleven weeks. Yeah, I think we all need
a refresher.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, and then we'll talk about where things kind of
stood coming into the weekend. We'll do a quick little
like update on what happened with practices and qualifying both races,
and we'll we'll we have some other fun information for you.
It's a nice little weekend round up.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah weekend. It's not a review, it's it is. It's
a review, but also like I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Thinking of round up like Woodies round up from toy story.
Oh yeah, uh so, yeah, let's get into it. Okay, So,
for those who don't know, F one Academy is Formula
ones all women's series. It is designed to give young
female drivers an opportunity to show what they got. It
(01:48):
is the equivalent to like the F four racing series.
They're racing the same type of car and basically it's
an opportunity for these uh female drivers to get expe
in this type of car, show what they've got, learn
sort of how to behave and just the ins and
outs of being a driver as part of a team.
(02:10):
Because a lot of these female drivers are coming from
karting or they're coming from other types of series. So
for some of them, they have like no open wheel
racing experience at all.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, And I mean even to get experience in a
car at all is difficult. Like going to a Gogart track,
you can do that, it's not often you get to
just go, let me hop in an F four car
or my have three carm I have two cars. So
it's like they provide a lot of opportunities for them
to be able to just get experience in the car,
which is that in itself is so important.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, And it's not just the drivers either, it's the engineers,
it's the mechanics, it's the people running the behind the
scenes stuff. The focus is primarily giving women in motor sport,
not just the drivers, but across all areas the opportunity
to get experience and to learn and to kind of
get a foot in the door in a primarily heavily
(02:58):
male dominated field.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
So just a little bit of information about the cars
and the series itself. So the drivers all race the
same taught US F four.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Chassis.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
There's a bunch of other letters and numbers there.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
That I think that's just the most recent for chassis.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, and it's powered by an Autotechnica turbo engine on
Perrelli tires. It features a unique arrow package compared to
standard Formula for. It's got a modified front and rear wing.
It's designed as a specialized F four car. It's focused
mainly on driver development because the again, the purpose of
(03:37):
this series is not so much like throw the drivers
at each other and see how competitive they can be.
It's a little bit more like put the driver in
the car and let's help get them used to this
car and driving in this way. It is still competitive, Yeah,
it's still plenty competitive, and there's a lot if you
enjoy like wheel to wheel racing, especially and talking about
(04:01):
racecraft in particular, like that, that's where that part of
racing shines. I think in this.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Series it does for sure. I was actually just saying
that I was like, some of the best in the
closest wheel to wheel action I have seen has been
an F one academy. And another reason too, it's like
what they would call spec series. So since everything is
the same, it also keeps like cost really low. So
like they all they all they need to focus on
is the driver who's driving it, and racecraft and really
developing that. And they're not limited by you know, Gabrielle Bordolto,
(04:30):
who is a prodigy in Formula one, doing so well
in F two and F three. Well he's in at
Salber not able to necessarily show off those skills. But
so it's like ton of the opposite of that.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
So a little bit more information about just like the
teams and who's supporting them and how that all works.
So we've got six teams racing in F one Academy.
Each team has three drivers. The three teams are Premo Racing,
Campos Racing, MP Motorsport, road In Motorsport, Art Grand Prix,
and High Tech tgr UH and those are the those
same You may recognize some of those team names because
(05:03):
they also have teams in Formula two and Formula three,
And so all eighteen drivers in F one Academy are
backed by either a Formula one team or one of
the series official partners. We're talking like tom was it
Tommy Hill? Figure, We're talking who's the makeup one? Charlotte Tillbury?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Wow? Yeah, I was like weeks.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
We've got McLaren and you know Ferrari Alloa people.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Oh is it Puma Puma car? There was a Gatorade
one at one point that was a wildcard, the wild card.
This time was team viewer.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
So uh yeah, So the there is a wildcard driver
every round. So of the eighteen drivers, seventeen of them
are permanent for the season. They all retain their seats,
and then we have one wild card driver. That's part
of is it high Tech? High Tech's team has one
wildcard seat where it's a different driver in each round,
(06:01):
and a lot of times it's a local driver. Sometimes
it hasn't been, but more often than not, it's been
somebody from the country that the race is taking place in,
or that the races are taking place in. So I
say race is because F one Academy does two races,
So they typically do up to for each weekend, we'll
do up to two free practice sessions, and then they
(06:24):
will also have a qualifying and so the way that
they qualify there's one race where the top eight is
a reverse order for the grid, and then the second
race is just the regular qualifying order.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, so we do two races. Yeah again, it's yes, yeah, yeah.
Race one is the reverse grid typically unless we had
some weird stuff in Montreal where we had a make
up race, but yeah, race one is typically the reverse gers.
The top eight are reversed and then the Race two
is and also that the points are also different as well,
so like Race two is actually like full Formula one
points for the top ten, Race two it's like only
(06:59):
a few points, so it doesn't match the Formula one scale.
So since it has been eleven weeks since we have
covered F one Academy and we have seen our girls,
we're going to kind of remind everybody about where we
were before we even got to Zandvoort. So the championship
picture after Montreal, Dorian Pond led the standings with one
(07:23):
hundred and nine points. Chloe Chambers was second with eighty
nine points, so just twenty points behind her and Maya Vogue.
She was in third with seventy two points after a
tough Montreal weekend because she had so much like so
many mechanical failures that literally weren't her fault. There were
times she didn't even get to compete at all. It
just really hurt her. And another thing that was interesting
(07:44):
that weekend was Ella Lloyd. She sat right behind them
with sixty seven points after three consecutive P two finishes
in Canada, so she finished second every race, which was insane.
So going into Zandvoort for the team battles we have
of Prima Racing was still first, then Campos and MP
Motorsport right behind. So the biggest things to consider going
(08:07):
into Zandvort was it is, oh, sidebar before I get
into everything to consider something fun is Zanvort is the
only circuit that's been on the F one Academy calendar
all three seasons or all three years that it's been
alive since it's Genesis, which is good because I would
say Zandvort is a track that like it's hard.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Yes, challenging, it's got like everything.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah, it's it's very hard. We were doing it on
the simulator. It's rough and banks though, oh my gosh.
So they did some preseason testing at zand Vorp in
the middle of their break, so that was in July.
It gave the driver some valuable prep for the tricky circuit.
So like some of the rookies, you know, they may
(08:52):
not have experienced at Zandvorth, the any of our veteran
drivers who are in their second year, they would have
driven Zandwort before. But it's nice to kind of and
there's a track you might need some refreshers on it's
probably Zandvoord, so they did some testing. Alicia Poalmouski, she
is a driver that we have highlighted before. She dominated
the first day so and she is a rookie, so
(09:13):
I don't know that she's ever been to Zandwort before
in any of the lower divisions. I don't know if
she's competed in any four series that are there, but
she dominated the times in testing. And then Maya Woog,
who is Dutch so she should be very familiar with
this track. She ended up dominating in day two in testing.
So some of the storylines going into the weekend. We
have Maya Wig who is the home favorite. She double
(09:36):
podium there last year and her testing pace pretty much
suggested that she was going to do well this weekend,
which we will be getting into in just a few moments.
And we have Ella Lloyd riding the momentum from her
three podiums in Montreal, still chasing her first series win.
She's also a rookie. We have a lot of rookies.
Most out of our rookies are for were wild cards
(09:56):
last year, so that was pretty It's almost like you
have almost a one hundred percent shot if you are
a wild card driver in F one Academy. You will
get a seat next year. Alicia Palmouski, she established herself
as the rookie to watch consistently from testing. And then
we have Ariel Nobles. She is hoping to bounce back
after losing a podium chance in Canada. So going into
(10:17):
zanvort Ella, Lloyd established herself, turning our three way battle
for the championship into a potential four way battle with Dorion,
Chloe and Maya exciting, exciting Yeah. So now we will
get into our practice. We sare well.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
So practice one conditions we had a dry track so
the drivers got their sort of cleanest runs of the weekend.
In practice one, we had Palmouski finishing P one, Wigan
P two, Chambers rounded out the top three and there
was just a point zero zero five five of a second.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
With like five thousands of a second?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Is that we said it wrong one time and I'm like,
I'm afraid to say it again.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
That's a thousand, Okay, so the first one zero would
be a tenth, the second is one hundred and third
is a thousand.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Don't come for me, okay, Like listen here, I got you.
Listen here. It's been a minute since I had to
read numbers like this. Okay, So, uh there was just
a five.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
There was just five thousands of a second.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
There was just five thousandths of a second between Pamowski
and P one and Voogan P two. So like that's
very very we're talking like on top of you blinked,
you half of a fraction of apply blinked. You didn't
even blink, you didn't even.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
See him thought about it.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Yeah, So there was a red flag in practice one,
so the session did end early after that's a crash
at turn eight. Uh, so there were there was a
penalty given out. So Nicole Havda got a ten place
grid drop for both races one and two after overtaking
Drian Pond under red flag conditions. So that's no poining
(12:02):
on not good.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
As Alice Powell said, that's a no no.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
She is so funny. She the way she words things,
she goes that's a big no no. Like she talks
like about them like their children, and it's so funny. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I mean, and you know, mistakes are bound to happen
in this series, but it's one of those things where
it's like there's certain mistakes that can't happen. You cannot
have drivers ignoring or doing things wrong procedurally. You can't
have them doing things wrong during unsafe conditions when there's
red flags and yellow flags and like there's there's a
(12:38):
list of things that you just absolutely it's a no no,
and that's why no no. Yeah. So the biggest sort
of takeaway from F one is that Pamawski and Campo's
looked strong right at the gate, and Wig was matching
the pace at home and uh Chambers close bine, that's
my girl. Yeah. So our summary for practice to the
(12:59):
condition were wet, showery sessions with limited clean laps so
and zanvoort Is. Again we mentioned it's a very tough track.
It's one of those places you do not want rain,
you know.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
And though but the weather's so finicky there that you
almost there's always a chance and you kind of just
wake up and go, well, is it gonna rain? We'll
find out it might like it is what it is,
no matter what almost it seems.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
So our top three for FP two was Clothed Chambers,
Mayavog and Durian pond H So quick driver's note so
Piolski said she expected a close fought qualifying after her
practice pace and Nina Gateman was declared unfit to take
part in FP two by the Chief Medical Officer after
running in f you one.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Yeah, and they did not give any more details about that.
I do suspect that that could be referencing an injury
she got when she they did testing in Jetta earlier
in the year and she did get injured. I'm curious
as to whether or not that could be related. But yeah,
they didn't really give any more details on so she
did not take part in FP two.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yeah, So the biggest takeaway is that Chloy Chambers adapted
the best to the changing conditions with you know, showery
weather and stuff, and then Mayo Wig and Duram Palm
were right there to keep the fight close heading into qualifying.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
They ain't playing Chloe is just she's a beast. I
mean they all honestly, they all are in the top
three or just like there's even though some of those
rookies are really like giving them a run for their money.
But when when everything just kind of matches up for
those three in particular, it's it's insane.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
So let's have into qualifying. So The condition started off
damp from rain overnight, so the drivers began on wets
before switching to slicks as the track dried. So our
top three finishers were Mayo Vuog, Alicia Palmowski, and Ella Lloyd.
Mayo Vuog got a poll by just point zero three
(14:59):
nine seconds, very close margins. Alicia Paowski narrowly missed out
on getting that pole position. Uh but you know, still
up there. Still she's up there, still up there.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
And La Lloyd.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
This is the best qualifying of her rookie season, right
on pace with the leaders.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
She was not playing, Yeah, she was not playing. There
was multiple times well during some of the races we'll
get into I'm like, she don't care that that's Maya Vogue.
She's like, I don't care. I'm here putting up a fight. Yeah,
she is very aggressive.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
So some incidents in this session incidents and some red flags.
So red flag number one happened when Nicole HYVRDA locked
up into turn one, rear ended teammate Ava and agnostiat Is,
causing Ava to beat the car. That's I feel like,
as a driver, that's so embarrassing to beat your car
(15:52):
because I'm like, you just you're stuck there and like
you try to get out and then the car's just
like wheels turn in. You're just like I'm.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Stuck here, like what oh God, and you.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Gotta climb out and it's like do the ride of
shame on the back of the scooter.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Scooter of shame. Yeah, back to the garage.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
We had red flag number two when Aralian Nobles drove
wide ended up in the gravel and that ended her
qualifying session. Yeah, and so one of the sort of
things the drivers had to kind of like it was
tricky was that the track was drying as obviously as
the cars are going around getting their warm up laps
in and I was trying to start putting some times
(16:30):
on the board, the track that was damp from overnight
rain is drying up more and more, and so then
you're playing a guessing game of when to change the
tires over. It affects the way that you drive, what
parts of the track that you use. So basically, as
the condition started to improve, we had drivers like Leah
Block and Aralian Nobles were kind of among the first
to switch from the white harshes.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yeah, they were like I'm gonna I'm gonna gamble.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
It yep, going for it. So we did have penalties
again and qualifying lady.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
It was it was it was Harvard again. Oh.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Halberda was hinted at eight replaced Grid Jop for causing
a collision with her teammates, so combined with their FP
one penalty, she dropped to p sixteen for both reasons
Like girl like shoot yourself with.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
The own foot girl. That was rough.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, so some other kind of key results from qualifying.
Chloe Chambers just missed the top three, coming in P
four during Punk qualified P five So not her best
performance in qualifying.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
She's usually kind of up there. Yeah, uh, not the
best for her. Really used to seeing her and Chloe
in the top three.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
So that was I was like, hmm okay, so this
was a challenging track for her too, I guess.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Leah Block took P six, followed by Teena Housman in
P seven and Engagements took p eight after taking part
despite her earlier medical issue.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, so she was able to take part in qualifying,
so whatever they I think I did read where basically
she wasn't allowed to take part in FP two because
some other medical examiners had to clear her, so she
was cleared, so she took part in qualifying.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
And then we had our wild card entry for this round.
Esme Costerman came in p. Nine in qualifying and then
we have Emma Felbermeyer rounded out the top ten.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
And I think that's the best a wild card has
qualified this season so far. So good on her.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, So biggest takeaways from qualifying is that Maya Will
delivered under home pressure to get poll Alicia Pamowski showed
she's still a consistent front runner. We've got Lloyd confirmed
her rise as a genuine contender, and then we've got
such tight margins up front. The stage was set for
a tense race number one.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
It was tense. Okay, we will go ahead and talk
about the races themselves. So our Race one recap. This
is the reverse grid race. Again. This means that the
top eight are reversed, meaning Nita Gademan who qualified eighth,
she's now on pole, and Tina Houseman who was seventh,
(18:56):
she's second. Leah Block who was six is not third,
and so on and so forth. The top eight ninth
through eighteenth, they're the exact same as they actually qualified,
but that's they're trying to give some of the drivers
more of a chance to be upfront when you know,
otherwise it would be kind of like the season before
where Abby Polling was kind of just always up front.
(19:16):
Who was our championship winner last year.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
It's basically a way to just try to create some
sort of interest in having two different races.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Basically, so the conditions for race won. It was a
dry race with one safety car interruption, which we will
get into. So our podium we have Nina Gateman and
then Leah Block and Maya Wood. So Nina Gateman after
you know, being declared medically unfit to take part in
FP two. She is Dutch and it was her birthday,
(19:47):
her twenty second birthday, so she won on her birthday.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
She was like yeaally, stop at me, She said, huh uh,
not a day, not on my birthday.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Nope. And it was her first career victory, so it
was It was a very emotional podium. It was very cute,
very precious, and it was cool because we saw two
people who have not been on the podium. So Leah
Block also that was her career best finish in F
one Academy. She's in her second year so just to
see the excitement. I was like, oh, maybe it sounds
cride of like that's like girl. It was just fun
(20:15):
to see how giddy and excited they were. At one point,
Leah ran off the podium to chase Maya de Sprayer
with champagne, and Nina's just on the front by herself,
like they coming back, and they did, they came back.
It was just it was very cute. So we like
to highlight our biggest movers, give people their flowers. You know,
our first biggest mover is Aurelia Nobles. She gained eight positions,
(20:38):
and then we have Nicole Hafford to our little penalty getter,
she gained six positions let go. And then our third
biggest mover was Mayo Vogue which gained or she gained
five positions. So some of the key moments in this race,
so some of the front row drama. Tina Hauseman spun
out from P two on the opening lap, bringing out
(21:00):
the safety car, which is pretty devastating for her because
she was on P two or she was P two
and then it was over, so bless her heart and
our race leader Nina Gateman, she nailed the restart and
never looked back and controlled the pace the entire time.
She led every single lap. She was good. She was like,
ain't nobody getting ahead of me, It's not happening. So
(21:23):
for actually, at the very very start of the race,
she had a really good start. Leah Block start was
I would say, sort of average who was right behind her,
But then for a while they left them in the dust,
like it was just Leah was extremely close. Yeah, she
was gone. She was on Nina Gateman's butt and I
was like for a while, I was like, oh my goodness.
And so something about Leah Block as well. She is
(21:44):
a rally er. She has a history with rallying. Even
during the off season, she competed in a rally car
race or a competition I'm not honestly, I'm not quite sure,
but she finished on the podium in that. So it's
just some of these mixed conditions fit her very well,
just because she has a background in really driving under
mixed conditions. So back to some key moments. So the
(22:05):
title contenders, Chloe Chambers ran wide early while battling Dorion Pond,
dropping back, but then she ended up recovering to p five,
which was kind of a little bit of a messy move.
You could argue that Dorrion Pond didn't give her enough space,
but it was a racing it was deemed the racing incident.
M But you know, I'm not a stewart. I can't
(22:27):
make that call, even though I'm.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Like, I'm basically I'm basically a stewart.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Basically, Shane, I think she didn't have enough room.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
But that's okay.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
So, like we said, Dorion Pon finished just outside the
podium in P four, salvaging key points because she is
trying her best to keep that lee that she now
has in the points because Chloe and Maya they are
on her. They're coming, so we have Maya woog. She
climbed from p eight to P three, giving the home
crowd a podium to cheer four. So now we had
(22:59):
two Dutch drivers on the podium in race one, which
is fun. So I'm sure all the Dutch fans were
extremely happy.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
That's cool.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
So we did have a little bit of some.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Incident incidents all over the play.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
You can guarantee if you're watching a spec series there's
incidents all right. So the incident in race one was
between Alba Larsen and Chloe Chong, which ended up causing
Chloe to have to pit for a new front wing,
and she had a survey ten second penalty. They ain't playing, Susie,
and all them are not playing. They said, you did
what penalty? You can't go do it again.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
You gotta teach them.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
You ain't go. You go and learn today.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Susie said, you were not embarrassing me in us in
this whole series. When you get out of here by
making mistakes like.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
That, Nope, ain't happening. So some of the reactions from
race one from our podium finishers, we had Nina Gademan,
who said that she has been waiting for this for
a long time. We had been a very very emotional
win at home. And then we have Leap Blah, which
who called her p two the start of twenty twenty
five and a turning point in her season. So it's
(24:05):
very exciting to see two people you don't normally see
on the podium on the podium, kind of like when
we saw Alpine last year, both of them on the podium,
we were like, we are like, okay, all right, cool.
So our biggest takeaways from Race one, Gadman achieved a
breakthrough made in victory in front of her home fans,
Leah Block secured her first podium in her second year
(24:25):
with the series. Maya delivered at home with a strong
recovery drive because yeah, she mean she gained would we say,
five places, so very good on her. So at the
end of race one, the title fight is, you know,
getting a little more intense. We had two of our
championship contenders hit each other just a little bit, just
a little tiny bit, and then Maya getting the on
(24:46):
the podium, you know, trying to get as close as
she can todri On. Now we will get into our
Race two recap, which is our normal qualifying. So well,
what I mean by that is the grid is set
with how they actually qualified, and this is for full
Formula one points, so whoever wins gets twenty five points
(25:08):
and so on and so forth, exactly how Formula one is.
So conditions for race two, it was a dry race
with a clean start and we had no safety cars.
Go yes, and so our podium we had Maya Vogue,
Alisha Palmowski and Dorian Pond. Let's go yes. She got
up in there. So, like we said, Maya actually in
(25:31):
qualifying she got pole position and she that was hers.
She said, ain't nobody getting in my way? She and
she actually crossed the line seven point three seconds ahead
of everybody else. Wow, and yeah she had crazy They
really far ahead, so yeah, very far ahead. And the
reason Alisha Palmowski actually finished p two was because Ella
(25:51):
Lloyd got a penalty. And it was Alicia's first Grand
Pretty Sunday podium. So she's gotten the podium before in
like reverse grid races. This is her first podium on
a Sunday woo let go. And so our biggest movers
for race two we have Alba Larsen, who we have
talked about before. She gained five positions. We have Rafayela
(26:14):
Ferreira she gained three positions, and Chloe Chong who gained
two positions. So good on you, ladies. So some of
the key moments from race two. This was horrible. It
was devastating for me, Like honestly, zandfort for my faves,
the track does not love them. No, so Chloe Chambers
(26:36):
said for a mechanical issue before lights out and didn't
even start the race. She's on the grid ready to
go and she doesn't even get to start, and it
was completely and utterly devastating for me because I love her.
She's my fave. And then we have a false start
for Ella Lloyd, which she started P. Two, but then
after it was determined she had a false start, she
was given a five place grid penalty, which ended up
(26:58):
dropping her to P. Four, and then there was a
whole penalty mix up situation. So it was very confusing
on the grid because you know, Leah was her box
are behind Chloe Chambers, so on the formation lap she's
she doesn't know. I'm assuming no one her team may
not have been aware either that Chloe actually wasn't gonna
she couldn't move because the car was stuck like you
could see on Chloe's like steering wheel there. It was
(27:21):
stuck in some kind of mode that she wasn't able
to do anything. And so when Lee's about to follow everybody,
she actually gets very close to Chloe then kind of
has to like tightly go around her to do the
formation lap, and by the time they all come back around,
Chloe's car is gone. So Leah and it is a
weird situation. You don't I haven't really seen that a lot,
and we've been watching Formula one for like two years.
I've never really seen that happen.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I think there was. There's one time I remember seeing
it where like basically the car you have to lead
the grid box like empty, yes, And so it throws
you off because normally you're judging based on the car
in front of you and like where you're supposed to
be because you don't exactly see like the number the
spot you're supposed to be in.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
So well, i've seen that happen. I think when they
did the formation lap and somebody decided to go ahead
and pit. I think Charles did that on the formation lap.
He decided to go ahead and get new tires or something.
Maybe it wasn't Charles. Somebody did that. I just was like,
she just one second she was there and then she wasn't.
So Leah, you know, it's a learning curve. They pull
up and she pulls up in Chloe Chambers grid box
(28:22):
because it was right in front of her. She realizes
it and she backs up into her grid box. But
as she's like she's trying to do it as quick
as she can, the lights start to turn and it
was determined she was not at a full stop. When
she kind of got set back up, so she ended
up getting a ten second penalty, dropping her out of
the points.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Which is is that her fault or is that their
fault for not like making waiting for people to be
lined up in their correct grid box.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
No, that's her fault because by the time she was driving,
so mind you, when they first started, I could understand
her not realizing Chloe wasn't going to go and that's
why she got so close to her and then had
to go around her. Right by the time she's doing
that lap, they have team radios. Her team would have
told her. The thing is with F one Academy, it's
not like you can just go watch somebody's onboard. But
I would be under the assumption that her team would
(29:07):
have told her, hey, Chloe is gone, you know, and
to maybe be aware the grid box situation, or at
least I would imagine there has to be some sort
of communication. But even then you should know at the
end of the day, just because that person's not there
anymore does not mean you get to take their place.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
So no, but I mean more like, you know, somebody
at the back of the grid behind the cars has
to wave the green flag that says okay, we're ready
to get the race started, is there not somebody like
who determines when that because that person there's a certain
time when they get they're like, okay, we're ready to start,
and they can wave the green flag. They were not
(29:46):
ready to start because somebody was not in their proper groudbox.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
But that was only her fault at technically speaking, she
knows where she qualified. She knows that, Like, I mean,
I get being confused, but it's like, you knew you
weren't looking at the back of the other car earlier
you were.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
I'm not saying it's their fault that she was in
the wrong spot, but I'm like, would you if she's
in the middle of trying to get like get into
her correct place, Like to me, I'm like, there's something
procedurally wrong with that.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yeah, I mean I guess, I guess normally you would,
just I don't know. I don't know if there's a
certain time that you're supposed to like once everybody's lined
back up by the way, when the last car pulls up,
if they're supposed to be within a certain time period
you start the race. I don't know if that's a
rule or not. That would make more sense because I
feel like, you know, we've had it in the past
where they've had to redo a formation lab for some reason.
(30:34):
So I'm not sure, but.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
They redo the formation lab because they determined we're not
ready to start the race.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
She did get old by the time the light started,
she was in her grid box. She just wasn't at
a complete stop, so the car was moving. So it's
like it was a sort of message. It was sort
of a mix up empty. Yeah, it was. I was like,
oh man, we were alone. She's like, I got my
podium and I got a ten s like a penalty.
And so some of our strong drives her race too.
(31:02):
We have Nina Gademan fought to piece six and wild
card asme. Coostremann scored points in p seven and it
is the first wild card to do so this season.
She is also a Dutch driver, and we will be
talking about her in just a few moments. What is
up with these Dutch drivers, I told that's what I
was saying. I was like, they're born and bred to
race or something about these dut the dutchmen, the Dutch women, hm.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
The Dutch people, the Dutch people.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
So some of the reactions from race two, Maya Vuge
called it a huge bounce back after Montreal, cutting pins
championship lead just to twenty points. So, like we said,
Maya suffered a lot in Montreal. She had a lot
of mechanical failures and issues that were not her fault,
so she lost out on a lot of points that weekend.
So it was nice to see her on the podium
in both races and Imchia got pulled. She in race
(31:49):
two she was first, stayed first, I mean literally finished
seven seconds ahead, and everybody she was not playing. Alicia
Palmowski praised her team for the overnight improvements, and Jorian
Pond is satisfied to stay consistent despite not fighting for
the win. She's she's like, I don't know if I
want to say scampy or something, but she's scrappy. I
feel like doing on scrappy because she's so tiny. I mean,
(32:10):
if you've ever seen her before, she's very short. She's
a very tiny but like she ain't she ain't playing.
So some of the takeaways from race too. Maya delivered
in front of her home crowd with a dominant win
in maximum points. Pallmowski and Pond kept themselves in the
Championship mix. With Chambers having a DNS and Lloyd's penalty,
it made the title battle even more intense heading into Singapore.
(32:34):
It's a little rough out.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Here, so something fun we like to do each episode
for F one Academies, we like to highlight the wild
car driver and we will also highlight one of our
regular like permanent drivers. So for our wildcar driver highlight,
we're talking about Esme Costerman. We talked a little bit
about how she performed this weekend and just a reminder
(32:58):
that High Tech TG is the team that they have
the wildcard seat that changes every round or the driver
for that seat changes every round. So Esme Costerman is
a twenty year old Dutch driver. She became the first
woman to win in the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup Menelex,
second in Junior Cup and third overall. In twenty twenty three,
(33:20):
she participated in Supercar Challenge bmw M two Cup and
scored points in Indian F four. She was selected through
the FIA Girls on Track Rising Stars program and trained
through the KNAF Academy can AFF.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
I think I've heard people talk about that.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
And this was her F one Academy debut on home
soil racing for high Tech TGR and a special team
viewer car featuring the phases of over two hundred women
as a part of a visibility Drives Change campaign.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Yes, oh yeah, her car was covered in girls' faces. Okay, yeah,
and yeah that was pretty cool awesome.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
So, as we mentioned earlier, her performance in Zanfort was
really impressive or a wildcard driver and as a technically
like a rookie sort of performance. So in qualifying she
qualified P nine and race one she was sidelined to
the pitlane due to a formation lap issue, but recovered
to P twelve and then a race two she finished
in P seven and becoming the first wildcard two score
(34:16):
points this season.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Yeah, it's very impressive.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Yeah, Actually I do remember in race one they started
to the formation lap and her the radio message goes,
go to the pit lane. We'll explain later, and she's like, okay,
she just goes. But I mean, yeah, she had her
pretty she recovered really well, I mean because she would
have started eighteenth at that point and finished piece twelve.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yeah, and so her reaction to her Zandvort debut, she said,
it's such an honor to drive as the wild card
here at a home track. This weekend was the best
weekend I've had in my whole life. She spoke about
adapting to changing grit conditions and finding back through the field.
So the biggest sort of takeaways is that Esmey made
a memorial, memorable debut scoring championship points as a wildcard
(34:55):
on home soil. Her performance in visibility through with her drive,
and the special Livery highlighted every F one Academy stands
for a growth, opportunity and representation.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Yeah, it really did. Like her performance as a whole.
I mean the livery, you know, is highlighting women. She
is a wildcard driver, and then you know she adapted
really well. I mean she's she was the best wildcard
qualifier the whole season and then to score points. We're
gonna see her next year. Yeah she did.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
She did exactly what this series is intended to do,
which is give female drivers the opportunity to show what
they have. Yeah, and she did just that. And this
is just going to open the door for her this
one performance, because she delivered in it is going to
open the door for many more opportunities for her.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
At one hundred. I think we'll see her on the
grid and F one Academy next year. I would almost
guarantee it. So we will get into a little bit
of the standing's update. So the Drivers Championship after zanfor
we have our top five. We have Dorian Pond with
one hundred and twenty seven points, Mayo Vogue with one
hundred and seven points, Chloe Chambers with the ninety three points,
(36:00):
Ella Lloyd with eighty four, and Elisha Palmowski was seventy three.
So we have three veterans and two rookies, which is
very interesting. Alicia and Ella we've highlighted in our driver highlights.
The Team Championship we have Premo Racing with two hundred
and twenty four points, Campos Racing with one hundred and
seventy nine points, in MP Motorsport with one hundred and
fifty nine points, so there's still some chances here, but
(36:23):
we only have two more rounds in F one Academy,
so we'll see. And the biggest takeaways, you know, leaving
the weekend, Dorian Pond remains in control, but Mayo Voog
has rebounded and has closed the gap and kept the
fight alive. So you know, after a really devastating weekend
in Montreal eleven weeks ago. She's really bounced back to
being on the podium twice and really trying to get
(36:44):
that championship firelit. Chloe Chambers lost ground with her DNS,
which was so devastating because, like I've said, I and
I still think Chloe Chambers could win the championship. There's
plenty of opportunity. And it's so she's such a good qualifier.
She's kind of like a Max Firs staff in you
really don't want to see her in your rearview mirror.
She will find a way to overtake you. Like she
dis a great overtaker. She'll overtake on parts of the
(37:05):
track that aren't really conventional. She's just very, very talented.
She has a really really great racecraft. So I still
believe in her. She's got this. And while the Chloe
Chambers did have her DNS, we have Ella Lloyd and
Alicia Pelmouski who continue to apply pressure from just behind
go and don't forget about me. We're right here. Just
because we're in our first year, does it not mean
(37:26):
we're gonna relax and so Prema they have built a
strong cushion in the team's standings even though Campo's an
MP are still chasing them. It'll be interesting to see
how Singapore goes, and.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Just that's gonna be a rough one. Singapore is always
like super hot, really physically difficult for the F one drivers,
so I just can't even see. I don't operate well
in the heat or the humidity, so I would just
be like, Okay, this is the worst day.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
It's the worst day of my life.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Of my life. Especially in those freaking hot cars. They
get so hot driving around. All the heat from the
engine is just on you. So that's gonna be it's
gonna be rough.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Yeah, it's gonna be a little rough.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
So we can go into our driver spotlight, our another
driver spotlight. So every episode we highlight one of the
permanent drivers, one of the seventeen permanent drivers. So this
week's pilight is on Nina gade Men, who is racing
under Prima Racing and is supported by Alpine. So Nina
secured her first victory at her home race on her birthday,
(38:36):
just days after being declared medically unfit and forced to
miss FP two. She stayed composed, led every lap and
delivered and impressive bounce back. Yes she did so she
is a Dutch born driver. She is twenty two years
old and she began karting in twenty eighteen. She was
a finalist in the FIA Girls on Track Shootout at
Lamont and one gold in the Karting Slash Album Cup
(39:01):
at the twenty nineteen FIA Motorsporad Games. So before F
one Academy, she competed in the twenty twenty four British
F four Championship with four Tech Motorsport and earned a
rookie podium and finished the season eighteenth overall with twenty
eight points. She also raced in the Formula Winter Series
with high Tech TGR in early twenty twenty five. So
for her F one Academy career, she entered the series
(39:24):
in twenty twenty four as a wildcard entry at zanbort
So and she finished in the points, which is awesome.
And so for this year she graduated to a full
time seat with Premier Racing.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Yeah, which is what we were saying about. You know,
if you perform really well as a wildcard, then chances
are you're going to be a driver on the grid
next year, and that's exactly what happened to Nina, and.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
So her performance at Zandvort this year. She qualified P
eight at her home race, giving her poll in race one,
and in race one she delivered a flawless lights to
flag victory on her twenty second birthday and was her
maide An F one Academy win. She backed it up
up with a P six finis in race two, scoring
heavily across the weekend. So Nina's Zenbort weekend was a
(40:05):
sort of defining breakthrough for her, showing resilience and composure
under pressure and her wind not only marked a personal
milestone but also underlying the strength of Prema Racing and
Alpines development pipeline.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Yeah, it was really exciting. And then it was like
we had every podium at least you know F one
Academy and Formula one Dutch they are built different. Yep,
they are built different Dutch built different. Yes, like we
had Max first stap in n F one who No,
I don't know, you can never can out Max forstap In,
but you know the fact he was even on the
(40:37):
podium and was able to really hold everybody off is
pretty impressive considering that car is not great right now.
And then you know, having two I mean, you know,
in race two in F one Academy, it's having two
Dutch drivers and then just having Maya, which, fun fact,
Maya is like what the only win at this point
that Ferrari has, So she's the Ferrari backdriver, just saying
(41:01):
let's go by.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
It's oh for a Farati.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Now we will go ahead and look ahead into our
next EF one Academy race. It will be round six
at Singapore in October. It'll be October third through the fifth.
This will be EF one Academy second trip to the
Marina based circuit after making its debut there in two
thoyd and twenty four in its second season at the time.
(41:28):
So something we were saying earlier, Singapore is rough, it
is hot, it is a night race. It I mean,
it's hard on the F one drivers. I can just
imagine how it's going to be for the for our girls,
for fun Academy girls.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Well, because most of the F one drivers, as long
as they're not rookies, most of them have driven in
Singapore before, so they kind of understand the like they
understand and have experience driving in Singapore. Most of the
drivers do like conditioning to prepare for Singapore like they do.
They'll do sessions in like extra humid hot like like
(42:01):
if they're training in gyms, they do sessions in the
sauna like to kind of acclimatize their bodies to that
because it is rough, especially when you're used to like
racing around, like because they're doing it after like the
European leg where it's a little bit cooler, it's a
little bit drier. Yeah, so uh yeah, it's gonna be rough.
It's gonna be rough.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
So we can expect oh and I mean so the girls,
So our veteran drivers they would have experienced Singapore last year,
but our rookies, so we can expect a tough challenge,
a humid night race, unforgiving walls, and a technical layout
that punishes mistakes. So it's going to be a very
difficult yet rewarding weekend. So our championship watch. Driyan Pond
(42:40):
leads with one hundred and twenty seven points, but her
margin has shrunk, shrunk to just twenty points over Maya
who has one hundred and seven points. Chloe Chambers has
ninety three points and she needs to bounce back after
her dns and zanfort, so this will be a very
critical weekend for her. I mean, to be honest, she
really needs to get to podium finishes if she kind
of hopes to really battle for the win in Vegas
at the end of the year. And we have Ella
(43:02):
Lloyd and Alisha Palmouski who continue to close in both
showing podium level pace. I would I would go ahead
and bet they are gonna be the two next year
that are gonna be the title contenders. And so the
momentum right now it favors Maya after her dominant home win,
even though Pan relies on her consistency. You know, Maya
(43:23):
finding that footing, I mean, and like we said, all
her issues in Montreal were not really her fault. So
as long as that car can perform, she'll be fine.
As long as her card's good, I think, you know,
it kind of is probably gonna stress Dorian out, stress
Dorion out a little bit, because I don't think you
don't really want to see Maya or Chloe in your
(43:44):
rear view. So and Chambers heads to Singapore under the
most pressure though, you know, after having that DNS, she
really she's gonna have to work really hard, like we said,
and so yeah, Singapore is hot. Humid and unforgiving, and
we look forward to finding out who's going to handle
that pressure the best. Yeah, is it gonna be Maya Dorion,
(44:06):
Chloe Chambers, Ella Orly Shappalemowski. We don't really know. We'll
find maybe it'll be someone else, Yeah, but we'll find out.
And that being said, we do if you had not
already watched F one the Academy, It has been out
on Netflix since May. We have reviewed it. The episode
is not out. It will be out within a week's time.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
We make no promises.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Uh yeah, but look out for that. And if you
have not watched F one the Academy, you should. It
gives a really gives really good insight into behind the
scenes of the sport and what these girls really have
to go through, and it kind of not even just
the girls, it gives you a better understanding of the
Feeder series in general. So we'd highly recommend that. And
with that being said, we will talk at you in
October after Singapore by
Speaker 1 (45:00):
At
