WNBR (Wednesday Night Bible Read) Podcast™ isn't a Bible study. It isn't an Bible exposition. It isn't an in-depth guide to understanding the Bible. It's not a teaching of the Bible. As Pastor Chuck Smith would say, “The best Bible teaching is not that which dazzles people with the profound intellect of their teacher, but that which puts its truth squarely in their hands.”https://WNBRpodcast.comSponsored by:PUFF GRAHAM - A Place For Christian Writers. https://PUFFGRAHAM.com

(00:50):
and tonight we're coming from Acts chaptereight. Acts Chapter eight is where we're
going to be reading from. AndSaul approved of their killing. On that
day, a great persecution broke outagainst the Church in Jerusalem, and all

(01:11):
except the apostles were scattered throughout Judeaand Samaria. Godly men buried Stephen and
mourned deeply for him, but Saulbegan to destroy the church. Going from
house to house, he dragged offboth men and women and put them in

(01:32):
prison. Those who had been scatteredpreached the Word wherever they went. Philip
went down to a city in Samariaand proclaimed the Messiah there. When the
crowds heard Philip and saw the signshe performed, they all paid close attention
to what he said, for withshrieks and impure spirits came out of many,

(01:55):
and many who were paralyzed or lamewere healed, so there was great
joy in that city. Now,for some time a man named Simon had
practiced sorcery in the city and amazedall the people of Samaria. He boasted
that he was someone great, andall the people, both high and low,

(02:17):
gave him their attention and exclaimed, this man is rightly called the great
Power of God. They followed himbecause he had amazed them for a long
time with his sorcery. But whenthey believed Philip as he proclaimed the good
news of the Kingdom of God andthe name of Jesus Christ, they were

(02:39):
baptized, both men and women.Simon himself believed and was baptized, and
he followed Philip everywhere, astonished bythe great signs and miracles he saw.
When the apostle apostles in Jerusalem heardthat Samaria had accepted the word of God,
they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed

(03:05):
for the new believers there that mightreceive, that they might receive the Holy
Spirit, because the Holy Spirit hadnot yet come on any of them,
they had simply been baptized in thename of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter
and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

(03:25):
When Simon saw that the spirit wasgiven at the laying on of the apostles'
hands, he offered them money andsaid, give me also this ability,
so that everyone whom I lay myhands on may receive the Holy Spirit.
Peter answered, may your money perishwith you because you thought you could buy

(03:49):
the gift of God with money. You have no part or shared this ministry
because your heart is not right beforeGod. Repent of this wickedness, and
pray to the Lord in the hopethat he may forgive you for having such
a thought in your heart, forI see that you are full of bitterness

(04:10):
and captive de sin. Then Simonanswered, pray to the Lord for me,
so that nothing you have said mayhappen to me. After they had
further proclaimed the word of the Lordand testified about Jesus, Peter and John
returned to Jerusalem, preaching the Gospelin many Samaritan towns. Now, an

(04:33):
angel of the Lord said to Philip, goes south to the road, the
desert road that goes down from Jerusalemto Gaza. So he started out,
and on his way he met anEthiopian eunuch an important official in charge of
all the treasury of the candidate, which means queen of the Ethiopians. This

(04:58):
man had gone to Jerusalem to wworship, and on his way home,
was sitting in his chariot reading theBible, the Book of Isaiah the Prophet.
The spirit told Philip go to thatchariot and stay near it. Then
Philip ran up to the chariot andheard the man reading Isaiah the Prophet.

(05:19):
Do you understand what you're reading?Philip asked, How can I? He
said, unless someone explains it tome. So he invited Philip to come
up and sit with him. Thisis the passage of scripture the eunuch was
reading. He was led like asheep to the slaughter, as a lamb

(05:41):
before its shear is silent, sohe did not open his mouth. In
his humiliation, he was deprived ofjustice. Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from theearth. The eunuch asked Philip,
tell me, please, who isthe prophet talking about himself or someone else?

(06:04):
Then Philip began with that very passageof scripture and told him the good
news about Jesus. As they traveledalong the road, they came to some
water, and the eunuch said, look, here is water. What can
stand in the way of my beingbeing baptized? And he gave the orders

(06:25):
to stop the chariot. Then bothPhilip and the eunuch went down on into
the water, and Philip baptized him. When they come up out of the
water, the spirit of the Lordsuddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch
did not see him again, butwent on his way rejoicing. Philip,
however, appeared in Uzitus and traveledabout preaching the gospel in all the towns

(06:51):
until he reached Caesareah. Thank youfor tuning in
