(00:48):
and tonight we're coming from Genesis threeGenesis chapter three. Now the serpent was
more crafty than any of the wildanimals the Lord had made. He said
(01:08):
to the woman, Did God reallysay you must not eat from the tree
in the garden. The woman saidto the serpent, we may eat fruit
from the trees in the garden. But God did say you must not eat
fruit from the tree that is inthe middle of the garden, and you
must not touch it, or youwill die. You will certainly not die,
(01:32):
the serpent said to the woman, for God knows that when you eat
from it, your eyes will beopened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil. When thewoman saw that the fruit in the
tree was good for food and pleasingto the eye, and also desirable for
gaining wisdom, she took some andate it. She also gave some to
(01:55):
her husband who was with her,and he ate it. Then the the
eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked.
So they sewed fig leaves together andmade coverings for themselves. Then the man
and his wife heard the sound ofthe Lord God as he was walking in
(02:15):
the garden in the cool of theday, and they hid from the Lord
God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord called to the man,
where are you? He answered,I heard you in the garden,
and I was afraid because I wasnaked, so I hid. And he
said, who told you that youwere naked? Have you eaten from the
(02:37):
tree that I commanded you not toeat from? The man said, the
woman you put here with me.She gave me some fruit from the tree
and I ate it. Then theLord God said to the woman, what
is this you have done? Thewoman said, the serpent deceived me and
I ate it. So the LordGod said to the serpent, because you
(02:59):
have done this, cursed are youabove all livestock and all wild animals.
You will crawl on your belly andyou will eat dust all the days of
your life. And I will putenmity between you and the woman, and
between your offspring and hers. Hewill crush your head and you will strike
his heel. To the woman,he said, I will make your pains
(03:23):
and child bearing very severe, withpainful labor. You will give birth to
children. Your desire will be foryour husband, and he will rule over
you. To Adam, he said, because you listen to your wife and
ate fruit from the tree which Icommanded you, you must not eat from
it. Cursed is the ground becauseof you, through painful toil, you
(03:47):
will eat food from it all thedays of your life. It will produce
thorns and thistles for you, andyou will eat the plants of the field
by the sweat of your brow. You will eat your food until you returned
to the ground, Since from ityou were taken. For dust you are,
and to dust you will return.Adam named his wife Eve because she
(04:12):
would become the mother of all theliving. The Lord God made garments of
skin for Adam and his wife andclothed them. And the Lord God said,
the man has now become like oneof us, knowing good and evil.
He must not be allowed to reachout his hand and take also from
the tree of life and eat andlive forever. So the Lord God banished
(04:35):
him from the Garden of Eden towork the ground from which he had been
taken. After he drove the manout, he placed on the east side
of the Garden of Eden cherubim anda flaming sword flashing back and forth to
guard the way to the Tree ofLife. Thank you for tuning in.
