WNBR (Wednesday Night Bible Read) Podcast™ isn't a Bible study. It isn't an Bible exposition. It isn't an in-depth guide to understanding the Bible. It's not a teaching of the Bible.

As Pastor Chuck Smith would say, “The best Bible teaching is not that which dazzles people with the profound intellect of their teacher, but that which puts its truth squarely in their hands.”

Bible Reads. Grab your Bible andget ready, because we're about to get
started. And tonight we're coming fromJoshua six. The Book of Joshua six

(00:57):
is where we're going to be readingfrom now. The gates of Jericho were
securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came
in. Then the Lord said toJoshua, see, I have delivered Jericho

(01:18):
into your hands, along with itsking and its fighting men. March around
the city once with all the armedmen. Do this for six days.
Have seven priests carry trumpets of ramshorns in front of the ark. On
the seventh day, march around thecity seven times, with the priests blowing

(01:41):
the trumpets. When you hear themsound a long blast on the trumpets,
have the whole army give a loudshout. Then the wall of the city
will collapse and the army will goup. Everyone straight in. So Joshua,
son of None called the priest andsaid to them, take up the

(02:02):
ark of the Covenant of the Lord, and have seven priests carry trumpets in
front of it. And he orderedthe army advance, march around the city
with an armed guard, going aheadof the Ark of the Lord. When
Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests, carrying the seven trumpets

(02:23):
before the Lord, went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the Ark of
the Lord's Covenant followed them. Thearmed guard marched ahead of the priest,
who blew the trumpets, and therear guard followed the ark. All this
time the trumpets were sounding, butJoshua had commanded the army do not give

(02:47):
a war cry, do not raiseyour voices, do not say a word
until the day I tell you toshout, then shout. So he had
the Ark of the Lord carried aroundthe city, circling it once. Then
the army returned to camp and spentthe night there. Joshua got up early

(03:07):
the next morning, and the priesttook up the Ark of the Lord.
The seventh priests, carrying the seventrumpets, went forward, marching before the
Ark of the Lord and blowing thetrumpets. The armed men went ahead of
them, and the rear guard followedthe ark of the Lord while the trumpets
kept sounding. So on the secondday they marched around the city once and

(03:31):
returned to camp. They did thisfor six days. On the seventh day
they got up at daybreak and marchedaround the city seven times in the same
manner, except that on that daythey circled the city seven times the seventh
time around. When the priest soundedthe trumpets blast, Joshua commanded the army

(03:54):
shout, For the Lord has givenyou the city. The city and all
that is in it are to bedevoted to the Lord. Only Rahab,
the prostitute, and all those withher in her house, shall be spared
because she hid the spies we sent. But keep away from devoted things,

(04:17):
so that you will not bring aboutyour own destruction by taking any of them.
Otherwise you will make the camp ofIsrael liable to destruction and bring trouble
on it. All the silver andgold in the articles of bronze and iron
are sacred to the Lord and mustgo into his treasury. So the trumpets

(04:40):
sounded, the army shouted, andat the sound of the trumpet, when
the men gave a loud shout. The wall collapsed, so everyone charged straight
in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord
and destroyed with the sword every livingthing in it, men and women,
young and old, cattle, sheepand donkeys. Joshua said to the two

(05:06):
men who had spied out the land, go into the prostitute's house and bring
her out and all who belonged toher, in accordance with your oath to
her. So the young men whohad done the spine went in and brought
out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters, and all

(05:28):
who belonged to her. They broughtout her entire family and put them in
a place outside the camp of Israel. Then they burned the whole city and
everything in it. But they putsilver and gold in the articles of bronze,
and iron into the treasury of thelord's house. But Joshua spared Rahab,

(05:49):
the prostitute, with her family andall who belonged to her, because
she hid the men Joshua had sentas spies to Jericho, and she lives
among the Israelites to this day.At that time, Joshua pronounced this solemn
oath cursed before the Lord is theone who undertakes to rebuild this city,

(06:12):
Jericho, at the cost of hisfirstborn son, he will lay its foundations,
at the cost of his youngest,he will set up its gates.
So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
