Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ex president of the Sons of Ben Matt Kintastic X
Head Cappo, Adam Booth X player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latoo. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia Union. This is
Ex's in the U.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to X's in the U. Yes, Adam,
I check. This is episode number fifteen for you.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I like to be there.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Oh my guy, I appreciate that. And we are back
again with Adam Booth, Union legend Sebastian la two bringing
you everything from the unioniverse, and of course Leak's Cup.
That's all we're talking about now, Leak's Cup, Leagues Cup
Leagues Cup. Adam.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yes, I'm not going to start with you.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I think I'm going to start with mister Latou, who
was calling it on the radio Union versus Montreal.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Yes, I mean, you know those Canadian French. Now, I'm
just a French.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Get along with the Canadian French right now? Yeah? Of course, okay,
you're like allies and stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
The cousins.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
If you saw the Olympics, do you see the most
beautiful voice? No singing was the opening right, she's from Yea.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
So their beer drinking cousins over there and mystery south.

Speaker 6 (01:21):
But now, but for the game, I mean, a good
wins what we needed.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
It was not too crazy too like entertaining stadium was
pretty empty as well, so it was a kind of
a different type of atmosphere that we saw at thebo parks.
It's a long time. It looked like, you know, you
were thinking about the Open Cup. You know, I was
going to say, and I think we had more people
at the Open Cup.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
If you missed the Open Cup, you could have just
gone a League's Cup and you would have had the
same atmosphere.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
It was a carbon copy.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
But but yeah, but not to come back on the team.
I think it was great to see that we had
like a full squad for the first time, like gym
five so before you know, the seventy minutes.

Speaker 6 (02:01):
It was nice to see that.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
You know, is sty serious defensive and all the big
safe from Andrea in fair self. You know, keep the
game at zero zero and then you know kind of
barbub in the right place right time. Two goals again,
you know, like we are forgetting now about consa and
you know, go to the next run now, Cincinnati tomorrow night.

(02:23):
There's gonna be a tough one, but I think I
think they can. They can do it because they have
been playing goods, are being serious defensively, and they've been
still scoring goals.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
So it was not the most attractive okay or whatever.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
But sometimes you know, you need to be like that,
and that's what they did and is by me now
in a five games undefeated since kind of like the
way they came back at home with their first home
as well, so it's positive orfully they keep going with
the full strength.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, it's funny you mentioned that, not touch on it
real quick and then get Adam your thoughts on the game.
But you said with Pariba, it's what nine goals and
eleven matches. Yeah, and you just said, like, do we
now forget about Caronza because I haven't really thought about
Julians since Barribo has been on the scoring run and
even with Sam coming in, I'm like, well, we've got

(03:13):
just two spanking new forwards that.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
I mean, you've forgotten about the other guys.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
I think it was you know, Jim who was really
you know, holding on to that for a long time,
and but I think you know, yeah, creates to Baribu,
I don't think we give you enough. I you know,
you're sitting on the bench for one year, you don't
play when you get recruited, don't even get minutes, and.

Speaker 6 (03:34):
Finally you get your chance.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You score in Cincinnati was good, you know, to fels
good when we lost four three, you know, a couple
of months ago. But you know, from that you kind
of keep going and like you said, nine goals in
eleven game, it's it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah, it's crazy, Adam, your thoughts on the match.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
I mean, just to kind of you know, clean up
the last point for there for tie. I mean, it's
absolutely not to see this pace and obviously, I mean,
no one's gonna be able to keep this up, but
just to see how he's coming out of the gate
like this, you know, it's just a knack for finding
himself in the right space at the right time, which
is most as goal scoring, you know, as much as

(04:11):
it is power and as much as it is placement.
You know, sometimes it's just being in the right position
and understanding when the right pass is coming your way.
And he's you know, executed that as well as anybody
so far. So that's been great. I mean, look surgical game,
you know, top to finish. You know, it wasn't that
anything went in anyone's direction, but so hard you had

(04:33):
more of the opportunities, more of your shots got on goal.
Andre had less to do, which is obviously how you
want that to happen in any good case.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
And look, you got the W.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
You got the W, got the got the goal to
separate yourself, put the pressure on Montreal for most of
the match, and then you got the seiler you know
in the ninety ninety sixth the minute I believe it was,
and you know, put them to bed. And again ties
for him has been incredible, but let's also give credit
to he's been getting dimes send his way, like absolute

(05:07):
beautiful passes being sent his way. And look again, it's
no great wide receiver can succeed without at least a
mediocre quarterback. And it's one of those things where if
you ain't getting if he if a tie, is not
going to get this beautiful levels of service, maybe he's
not playing as well. So this is I think all
parts need to be kind of credited in this, uh,

(05:27):
this little surge.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
He does take advantage of those though where we've had
players in that position, would miss.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Like that, absolutely, No, you need guys even actually can
name some.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Of his former play No, would.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
They were all fantastic.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
What are you talking about the Olympians they come back.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
But and I was doing the Adam Booth since I
didn't get to see the game live. Yeah, I did
the two times time time walk through, but once in
a while I stopped just to listen to commentary. And
when McGlenn wasn't starting, Danny higgenbotham in front of the pod.
They were insinuating that a move to Europe was sooner
than later. And I'm like, dude, easy, I don't want

(06:10):
to hear that right now. I'm hoping for a next
transfer window, not this transfer window. So that's just more
to feed the rumor mill is they were saying that.
But McGlenn did get in, made an impact, Nate made
an impact, Sam made an impact. Everybody played. Like to
your point, no wide receiver can do anything without at

(06:33):
least a mediocre medium range quarterback. But that quarterback can't
do anything with an offensive line to protect them, of course,
and that's what I think we had, especially with the
defense and with Andre coming back.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Oh yeah, and I mean, look, there is this defense
is broken down into two ways it plays. If Jack
and Jakub can keep these guys in front of them,
if they can make sure that their bodies are in
between the man and the ball, or at least the
man and the goal, they're two of the best owner
backs in the league. If they're going to have to

(07:05):
do something that involves a dead sprint, sometimes they might
get beat. And sometimes that's where you know, the quicker
little forwards get us and counterattacks and things like that.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
But if they're allowed to play their game, which is always.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
Brought to them by having a strong midfield, you know,
and having good midfield play, and they've had great midfield
play from Munklin from it, but also Leon Flock. Let's
you know, let's give him his flowers. He's definitely been
a refreshing addition to this lineup since he's come back,
and the way that he plays soccer. We're never going

(07:40):
to put him in the headlines, you know, He's never
going to be the guy that we're going to think
about where we're like, you know, who's really stirring the
drink right now, But authentically, he is a decent part
of what's going on right now?

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Go back to original union union one point. Oh, Brian Carroll, Yeah,
similar did that a lot of the dirty things, but
was never going to get flowers unless you're Jeff Mitchell.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Well I had also got a restraining order, so that's
a whole different story. Yeah, So moving on. So, I mean, yeah,
a wins of wins of win Montreal. It's looking like
what we thought this team was going to look like
at the beginning of this year. So the only question,
well not no question is the sparse crowd really did

(08:23):
seem to affect the players off the field with their comments.
I mean, Jacob went on a long quote with JT
from Philly dot Com and you know they were they
were saying how they usually like to feed off of
the energy and that maybe it was an advantage from Montreal.
I just wanted to get your opinion because I just
kind of think, like, I know, you can feed off
the energy, but if it's quiet, an You're like, well,

(08:45):
I used to play in front of nobody when I
was a kid. Is is it any different or yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:49):
It is.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
I mean when you're at home, especially like for them,
it's been like six years, it's been pretty much packed,
you know, every game, it's more like game it was
kind of how he was against Montreal, So is definitely
shocking for them to be like what happened?

Speaker 2 (09:03):
You know?

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yeah, does everybody when the same time on Friday to
the show, you know, and nobody came to the game
or plan to knowing that there was a game at
the date, which probably happened.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
But the rain going to help, yeah for sure too. Yeah,
it was like the biggest storm adversary.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
But yeah, it definitely helped to have people behind you,
especially when you know that it's going to be hard
or you know, some moment the game there's always like
five ten minutes that like we saw the being of
the game, it was a bit more Montreal not getting
kind of the ball lose by the team a litt
bit at the midfield. But if you feel the crowd

(09:39):
or you know, especially when you make a play as
a defender, especially you make a play, you feel like,
oh yeah, like we have some clap everything.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
After a while.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
It's always of course when you score close, but you
will always get a reaction. But when there's more people
who are more knowledgeable about the game, you feel it too.

Speaker 6 (09:53):
So yeah, it's definitely differult well for sure.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
All right, people, when you heard it, you have to
show up for the next one. But the next one
is away, so you've got an excuse. We head to
Union Midwest. Yeah, yeah, Chester, Ohio for a game.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Against West West Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
West West West West west Chester, not west Chester.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
West West West again again why I said West West
Philadelphia before we get you know, directionally challenged.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
So uh, since he beats Santos lagunas and penalties, God,
we have to get that new penalty kick in. We're
gonna mention this at least once a pod a little.
The two penalties, like the overtime, We're gonna call it
a lot overtime, no penalties. Hockey, yeah, hockey play.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
So he drops on exactly.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
But so this is the second meet up between US
and Cincinnati. Yeah, And does the League's Cup right now
feel like just the MLS East?

Speaker 5 (10:58):
I think what we realized is the Eastern Conference of
Major League Soccer is far and away a better conference
right now in terms of talent than the Western Conference.
And we're just like nothing to take away from Los
Angeles and nothing to take away from their other Los
Angeles team.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
There is talent out west.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
But I think we can say unequivocally that the Western
Conference is not necessarily on the same par as the
Eastern Conference now, which is weird because in most other
sports as the exact opposite. But you know, I think
through the fire, through the flames, this is also something
that East Coast teams might be a little bit more
set up for. Maybe they deal with less of the

(11:38):
Mexican teams coming into their stadiums, even though you know,
ours got taken over. But that's for a multitude of
other reasons. I just think there's a there's a lot
of factors I can kind of go into this kind
of a tournament, and so far, so good, you know, so.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
You inquire again. Jonathan Tannelwold has a little article Union
and FC Cincinnati don't like each other. Why Well, apparently
games get a little chippy. But let's talk about this.
Is this the new rivalry for the Philadelphia Union A
while you always thought maybe it's Atlanta, but Atlanta fell off.
Red Bull says, we're not a rival. D C is
not good enough to be a rival. I don't know

(12:16):
about New York City. They're they're so focused on their
bridge and tunnel thing. Is Cincinnati the natural rival for
the Philadelphia Union, knowing the connections and the success in
the last what four and a half years for both squads,
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (12:32):
I never played INCINNTI.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yeah, that's fair. That's a new new rival.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
There might be, especially just because they are good. But
I feel like for me, it's it's DC all the
Red Bars. Yeah, if you are both good, you know,
but DC has been terrible in the past like ten years.
Red Bars have been better. It was good when we
will not and now we got good and the well not.
So I think as soon as there is maybe the
two teams, like when we saw the Red Bars, I

(12:58):
don't know, Fabians going in the extra time like this
was like you know, that was a type of game
like right aalry to you you like to see. But yeah,
it just you need both of the club to be
to be at that point that right now, So you know,
just being the one on top of Cincinnati, yes, because
we're plays them, we have connection with the ex coaches, exployers,
so yeah, think they stole.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Like our cook too. I don't know, even accountant.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
The tattoo artists that we don't hear about anymore. He's
also Yeah, no, so we have to protect Fang. Huh exactly.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
No, he's gone, he's he's on the he's on a
transfer list as we speak, no legit. I look, I
think if I think for us old heads who were like, yeah,
I know that all Bright's over there. I know that
Pat's over there. I know they took they've got ready
to come out of retirement. Sergio Santos is over there.
You know a lot of former Union players are over there.

(13:50):
I think that's flattering over there. Yeah, I'm I think
that's flattering. I think that, like the Union, you know,
this little stretch that we haven't been well aside, and
you know, I think, look, if you want to say
it's over, and if you want to say that time
has passed or we're still in the.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Middle of it, whatever, I don't know how everyone's.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
Emotions are about it, but ultimately we've still been more
or less the gold standard of the league in terms
of how a lot of teams want to run their
organization for probably the better part of five to six
years now. So look, I look at it the same
way I look at USA basketball, where I'm just like
everyone's your rival, because everyone's coming for your head, you know,

(14:30):
like for the most part, a lot of these people
are still coming for you as a standard, and a
lot of people still remember you being really good. So
beating the Union is a feather in the cap to
a lot of these organizations, like look, Red Bull fans
and all that they have, the we don't care about
the Union and all that, and that's fine.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
If they don't want extra rivals, that's fine.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
DC United. We've literally made their stadium our stadium. So
that's not a rivalry. You want to talk about NYCFC.
I think that might be the closest thing we had
because of the big how big our matches have been,
the a lot of natural visceralle between the two cities,
you know, and all that revolution. I think the Revs
have been something that's been close to it. But like

(15:10):
Cincinnati is a rivalry to a certain sect of maybe
the Union fan base.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
But the fans, and it's the newer coming new to Yeah.

Speaker 5 (15:20):
But frankly, in this moment, we were chasing them. We
got to be them. They're the supporter shield guys. They
are the people who are fighting for another one of
those you know, you were playing better soccer right now,
but we need to get to their level.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
But like when you say rivalry like it's it's English world. Yeah,
we said derby in like France when but derby usually
is because he plays the town close to you and
and it's a derby for the player, because of the player,
because of the fans. If you have lots of fans
coming to Suber Park and rocks the stadium, and when

(15:53):
your fans sucks, that passed you off, and that the
debbie and it just seems that he's a Union fans
go away. And usually it's like at the Red Border
right now. Why So for me it was the loudest
when I played. It's like when you see it and
you're like, Okay, your stadium is our stadium because.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
We beat you there.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
That's the rivalry to me as a player of thereby
rivalry to Cincinnati. We live too far away. You can understand,
like we have a big country. But like it's like
for Seattle, it's Portland. You know, it's important all the time.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Cincinnati and Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
But you know what I mean, it's it's the closest
they have. It's the closest you could be Vancouver as well. Yeah,
but thead but but it's yeah, it's it's distance to me,
like where I'm from. It's how you call the rivalry,
Like it doesn't matter if you are lastness standing and
you are first, is.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
Going to be a fight, you know.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
And look for me, it's it's like Penn State, you know,
they don't have anything that resembles a natural geographical rival. Well, yeah,
like you're not going to say Rutgers or Maryland even
though they just showed up. So they used to always
say Penn State unrivaled, And I'm like, look, the Union
don't have a rival, you know, if that's the case,
and they.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Don't have a geographical rival, because.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
If you're going to say that, DC and Red Bull
then want to hang out with us because they were
hanging out with each other for so long and the
Hudson River rivalry makes it so that, you know, that's
a natural thing and all of that. That's fine. I
don't need rivals. I'm I'm fine with my local darby
being us versus literally any team that comes to.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Super back in the old days of being prison of
sons of men. I'll tell you the front office of the.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Union oh, they want that, and New.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
England wanted to create some kind of manufactured rivalry, and
I go, it just doesn't work.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
They have no because they're geographically We're both geographically and
a no man's land. We need Baltimore to get a team,
and even then they would just go hang out with DC.
So it's like it's one of those things I'm like, look, yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
But for performance wise for the last couple of years,
the fact that you know, I went to Cincinnati last
year and came home with an L in the playoffs. Yeah,
so it's like I'm starting to dislike this team more
and more. Where DC, I don't dislike them anymore because
it's like you're beating up on JV. You should beat them.
And even while Red Bull's playing better this year, but

(18:11):
the last couple of years with Red Bull, I didn't
think much of them. That's why I thought maybe so
the rivals. Laf Si Sabashian, you said something pretty interesting
before we recording. So you have a good feeling about
this game.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Yeah, I mean, you know, you saw Cincinnati not struggling,
but you know they lost a few defenders. I think
that defends is not going to be as strong they
barely were able to beat Sano. Slaguna is not one
of the best team, you know in the Mexican League,
just one one and then Pik you know, I didn't
watch the entire game, but they should be able to
beat them. So I feel like, you know, the Union

(18:45):
the Wether be playing. You know, I think we are
probably very close to the same level in certainty or
maybe above. I'm not going to, you know, to say
that because we didn't win away game. We played home
in the entire time. But I feel with the confident
of the team, with I think the roster we have
now Andre back, you know, in a goal, all of
those little things. I just want to make sure you guys,

(19:05):
Dog is maybe okay to play, you know, because you
got like a little back injury against Montreal. But other
than that, even if he doesn't play, I'm still confident
we can play anybody. Like as a number ten, we
can be maggling, can be you know, Rafanello I think
did good when he came in. You know, just all
of those guys could could help. So I yeah, I'm
pretty confident and I'm positive to things that we could

(19:28):
get the win tomorrow and hopefully we get the next
round at Super Bark against probably Cruise as well again,
and that time, you know when I might need more
Union fans coming to the baw Bar because the Cruise
as well find out going to be right here.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
So, you know, feeling good about Mars alone. Huh, No, Adam,
your thoughts well in Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
I mean, look, I think.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
It's very interesting how poetically accurate a lot of our
predictions were about this team from a couple of weeks ago,
when we just said, hey, you know, it'd be crazy.
What if they just got healthy. You know, like, what
if they just got healthy. What if everyone came back
from their tournaments and they were not playing the Euros anymore,
and they weren't playing the Copa so they were in
the Olympics. And maybe we just got a little bit

(20:13):
of help, but I even like a lot of help,
just maybe.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Like a dude or two for some backup.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
And again, I'm not here to say this recent stretch
means everything is right in the world, everything is fixed,
and they're going to run into the playoffs and they're
the scariest team in the East. But I'm saying that
ultimately this is a different team than when we were
talking about two months ago, and I think there's a
confidence in them that didn't necessarily exist in them two

(20:38):
months ago. So and let's be honest, that group that
lost in Cincinnati, they kind of lost, they like not
to say a barely lost, not to say, hey, it
was like they lost.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
But at the same time, it was a game where
I'm like, the Union weren't out of it. Like the
Union went into Cincinnati, hobbled backup goalkeeper, you know, not
having their number eight, you know, figuring out their their
their striker situation, put three goals up in Cincinnati, almost
walked out with points if it wasn't for a last
second meltdown.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
So I'm like, yeah, I would.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Say you should feel that you can go into Cincinnati
and win. Short answer, long answer, you know, but short
answer to the long answer, you should go into Cincinnati
and you should feel like you can win.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
If you lose, I mean you lose.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
But I would say that you should not be afraid
of the Lions of f C Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
And I feel good because Cincinnati and the Union both
played on Friday, and they're both playing Tuesdays, so there's
no real advantage of an extra day's rest. And let's
face it, that flight from Philadelphia Cincinnati is nothing. It's
not like you're going changing time zones and anything. The
worst thing about that is you have to eat the
Cincinnati food.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
But yeah, and to rip on on your point, Adam,
I think is what you're alrighty is is a team.
It's so even if it's already mental for Cincinnati because
you know they are good, but they are like, okay,
now we're gonna put like we play their full squad
and they are getting more, you know, gonna being of
the season.

Speaker 6 (22:10):
So now they have a guy like Baribo. We don't
know a lot, but he's fucking hot.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
So it's kind of like all those mental things before
the game happened to Cincinnati, who is still good, but
they are like, let's say, a bit more scared or
not as confident as maybe they were before because before
we were the ones saying to the two about them,
or while they are on the road they are killing everybody.
You know, they were like a cost I was amazing,

(22:36):
but now since you know they're losing a few pieces
in the defense, males got everything, it's not the same.

Speaker 6 (22:40):
So I think having Andre it's huge as well.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Just just a mental aspect for the guys who play
against them, like okay, shit is back, you know. Yeah,
so it's it's definitely a little advantage. But in the
same time, the team the Union still be like hungry
as I'm not going to say, but f you know,
to like shoe again like they shoe against Charlotte. You know,

(23:05):
we lost Charlotte. They came back and they beat them.
We lost Montreal. They were like, hey, what's up? He was,
but we beat you even score against us. Can they
do that again against inside teams that they lost four three?
Instant etty but and say, hey, now we are going
to play and let's bring it, and you know we're
going to be more hungry than you are.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
And even like you said, there's new aspects to the Union,
new wrinkles that Pat Noonan doesn't know anything about really
except tape Chris Albright doesn't know about. So this is
probably the first time Pat Noonan is going to face
guys that he didn't physically coach when he was with
the Union. There's probably two or three players that he's like,
I got no idea how this guy practices, what his
habits are. Before he had the inside playbook. Now that's

(23:45):
slowly dissipating away, which could could take a lot away
of Pat Noton's It's like from water Boy, we might
have taken away that magic notebook from that guy.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
And and look, I think when it comes down to it,
it's a two way street. You know, they know about us,
but Jim knows about them. You know, Ivan, you know
your assistant coaches, you know their tactics. You know it's
to take from Ted Lasso. Ted Laso knew what Neate
was up to when he was coaching west Ham. He
knew what he was going to pull because he was
like I not only did we work together, I was

(24:17):
your boss.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
You know, I understand like I tutelaged this human.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
You know, likee Ted.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
It's a little it's a little fifty, it's a little
six and one half dozen in the other. But here's
the thing about it. And this is one of the
things I saw during the Olympics. One of the shooting
competitions ended up with a gold medal and a silver medal,
and it was a teacher and his student, and the
teacher won the gold and the student won the silver.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
I'm like, look, sometimes it happens that way. You know.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
Sometimes you're like, I still have a couple of tricks
that I didn't fully pull out of the bag for you.
And I think the first trick was getting Jim to
stop wearing the suits.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
I think once we.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
Got I'm just saying, once he stopped trying to dress
like the head coach, he was a suit the suits.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Look, all I'm saying is once he stopped trying to
address like the head coach of Athletico Madrid, he actually
started winning a lot of more matches. I've just looked
that the Nike dunks might be the Samson hair to
his power. You know, he might need, you know, something
nice and shiny and with a swoosh on it to
get you call.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Him bow wow. And that's those Jordan's that.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
First movie Like Mike, underrated basketball movie. Uh.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
Fun fact, my dad was in it. No, yeah, my
dad was an extra in Like Mike. Because they shot
that during an All Star weekend and when that was
two thousand and three or two thousand and four, when
Philadelphia hosted it. They shot it in the spectrum. Fun fact.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Take that, you know, that's that's our Adam p D
of the day.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Yes, there you go.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Have you ever seen like Mike with bow? Wow?

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Never?

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Goody, you missed nothing. All right, let's get into some
news the town hall. Adam, did you hear I've heard
it got moved.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Yeah. It was supposed to be on Tuesday, but we
play on Tuesday, so it's gonna be Wednesday. So if
you had a ticket, you got an email about it
to reschedule. I did here right before we stepped in
here that there were a couple of tickets because I
guess people didn't accept. So call your ticket rep tomorrow.
Maybe you can go on Wednesday. Adam, are you planning
on going?

Speaker 5 (26:14):
I have been invited to go, so I am. I'm
going to make an appearance tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
And what do we give you today in the studio?

Speaker 5 (26:21):
So I have a so I got one of the
newer iPhones recently for my job, so I do not
have the old school iPhone charge.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Where we got that. I don't want to be incriminated.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Look, no, it's okay.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
So more or less, I have a burner phone that
I'm using so that I can record with some of
my recording equipment that I have for my other jobs.
And we're going to get the best most thorough quotes
and content that we possibly can from this town hall meeting,
because only you guys deserve the best.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
So we need something from the ownership, maybe earnest. Yeah,
and then I need angry man on the street, that
guy that's standing outside that couldn't get it.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Oh God, can we get Arsenal fan TV.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
You want something like that. You need to get a
couple of these because I just want to see Sebastian's
face when we play this live.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
But it's mad blood.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
So if you cannot make it, we will bring some
of that flavor to you next week. We just have
to inform braces is gotta do a lot of editing. Sorry, Sean,
you gotta do a lot of editing.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
There's gonna be so many bleeps, so many bleeps.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
So it's official, Denley Jane Juckets he is an official signing.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
When last time.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
We were here, we we it was a rumor, but
he's he's official with the team. And we forgot to
mention that CJ only has been called up to sign
a homegowing contract. That was last week, but we neglect it.
So we've got some more quote unquote bullets in the
chamber to see how they all mesh in and go

(27:53):
from there. Now, rumor of the day, Adam, well, it
was rumor of last night. Yeah, and Adam kind of.
I was just starting to settle in, trying to get
some sleep, and Adam text me this. The MLS is
planning on starting a women's league of their own in
twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
Yeah, I mean so, Look, I'm as a former journalist myself,
I'm one to say we must vet all sources, and
I will say that the source that I have so far,
and I've sent this to people who I trust in
higher soccer circles so to hopefully confirm or deny this Oligan. Yeah,
I texted Alexis first. The page isn't found anymore, so

(28:39):
we're gonna start with that. But the original rumor was
that in twenty twenty seven, after the Women's World Cup,
which will be after the men's World Cup because they're
always the year after that, the MLS will be investing
in its own women's side league similar to the epl's
women's side, where all of MLS is teams or most

(29:01):
of MLS will have a Union women or a eight
MFC women and they will do this in lieu of
the NWSL, so they will not be absorbing the NWS cell.
They would be direct competition between the two things. Now
again I'm vetting it, and again as I've clicked on
the page to revet it, it looks like it gave

(29:23):
me the four oh four not found message. So maybe
too many people got aware of this blog post because
it came from what looks to be a Atlanta United
supporters page if you wi that supporters group page, but
definitely a blog in their favor exactly. Yeah, so definitely
with a slant of in the Atlanta United favorite.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Look, I would love it. It'd be really cool.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
It would be weird because they didn't really have any
indication that MLS team like they wanted to do something
like that. But look, if you're going to go all
in on soccer like you probably should be in the
next two day, three years, it would be a smart
move to make, you know, But I don't know, I
have to wait that long.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I think you can start it now, you know.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
I think I think women's sports, you know, for better
or for worse, or at a fever pitch right now.
And I say, if you're trying to strike while the
iron's hot, it's now you know, waiting three years might
not beat the same vibe.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Well, here's the question, is there enough women's talent to
support two women's professional leagues in the US, knowing that
there are other leagues in Europe.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
If the money is there, Well, I.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Would think if the money's there, that one league would
dominate the other.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
Well yeah, but I would say it's one of those
situations where Americans are not used to the idea of
multiple leagues at once because basically we don't even have
like a Serie B or a League two or something
like that, so we can't even comprehend that, let alone,
there'd be two two competing one A leagues. But I'm like, look,
ABA and the NBA used to try it for a while. Yeah,

(30:58):
you know there was there was dually. I mean, for
the most part, the American League of the National League.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
We're basically two.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Different baseball leagues that existed together for the better part
of one hundred years.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
I just don't want to see an NFL versus XFL.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
But you haven't.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
Now that's literally what you have now is you know,
the Rock and his buddies are still doing competing Spring
Football league, And look I don't know if it's going
to cannibalize it where we ultimately lose and both teams
go under.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
But I'm saying, like, if we have some healthy competition
for some women's.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
League, I know a lot of women athletes that wish
the WNBA had more competition domestically in the United States.
So that because I know a lot of them who've
been going abroad to play in other leagues in other
countries because they're paying better than our domestic league in
the US. Even though we're the defending Olympic and World
champions in women's basketball every year for the last one
hundred years.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
You know, we're gonna get to someone that has developed female.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Talent Jesus the French, not what.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
And your assistant coach, former Olympian Heathermets, has been trying
to get a team in Philadelphia. So I mean, you've
got a little bit of insight into this, Like.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
I mean, there's definitely lots of people who want to
have a women's team in Philadelphia. Then is there going
to be with if you have the union or are
they going to let's say open up maybe not now
but soon. You know some women you know, girls club,
but right now it's just academy of course. But it's
like you said, it's all about money. It's you know,

(32:28):
it can can you have the resource you know to
be able to pay for everything when you have a
women's team and everything, or even that's a category of
let's say you do you you know, because here you
have college too, and it's such a big thing. So
it's such a different modu the way that women will
come professional instead of playing for the best you know, school,

(32:52):
do they have to just choose and be like, Okay,
I'm going to go and go to the Union Academy
and be you know, like the best you eighteen and
when they are the best, okay, we sell you to
the La Angel or we sell you to it could
be this instead of having maybe a professional team to start.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
If it's how they want to make money and.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Be able to be the formation of all the best
women players in America. But it's yeah, it's just it's
it's all yeah about money.

Speaker 6 (33:24):
It could have, it could happened. It could happen a
lot of different ways.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
And if the number of works, then you're going to
see like a team of n w SL.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
We'll find a way to agree with m l.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
S and everybody's got the end will be happy, you know,
to a B a NBA emerging.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
Yeah, Jackie Muhon wasn't happy at the end of we
are but we we are far from that right now.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
We are and and a lot of this is I
heard the NWSL doesn't want Major League Soccer invest investing
or invading their league. No, so this is probably MLS
as well. Okay, if you don't want to be friends,
we go to the other route.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
No, I mean, it's it's you can see both sides
of the coin.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
You know, you can be like NWSL doesn't want it
to just be propped up by a men's league, basically
saying we can't stand on our own, we can only
survive with MLS.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
But I also see.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
MLS saying like, if you don't want to work with us,
we'll just do our own thing because we think we're capable.
It'll be really interesting to see anything come of this.
I look, I just want a team in Philly. I
just I would just like I.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Mean people, and uh, Heatherms is one of them, and
not trying to bring a woman team. It doesn't have
to be NWSL, but it's what they want. To start building.
And you know, Union right now doesn't have you know,
a woman category or side. But it's how they want to.
You know, they have so many big cities in America

(34:51):
we're not having you know, teams. But again it's it's money.
You know, people want to make money if they invest somewhere.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Speaking of money at them, Yes, sir, NWSL Transison, Yeah,
how much a million WNBA franchise fee? Guess how much?

Speaker 3 (35:07):
So what you're a million? What were you telling me
is Josh Harris could just buy both in a week easy.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, but no, they're both fifty million dollars buy ins
to own a franchise.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
I mean, first off, I'm happy that the evaluations at
high good for them, but at the same time, I'm like, yeah,
get look, just give me a team. Like look, I
was telling this to my friend the other day. I
saw ESPN Zone on on Twitter and I was just like,
you know what I knew we weren't favored as a
city is when we didn't get an ESPN Zone, Like
when I knew Philadelphia quest No, No, there's a lot

(35:37):
of things, and I'm like, all right, cool, but like
once philadelph when Baltimore got an.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
ESPN Zone over Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
I'm like, they have two teams, two and a half
teams the Ravens. I don't even think we're there yet.
And I'm like, okay, cool, well this is this is awkward, but.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
I get it all right.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Reminder, two days left for the transfer window. Transfer window
ends August fourteenth. I'm still wanting news from Rich. I'm
just saying I'm but I want news from Howie all
the time and everybody else in Dobrowski. So I'm just
a selfish sports fan. I'm in two more days left
of the transfer window.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
Rumor is it's Hernandez now from the French national team,
the left back of He's and except one.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
We're making stuff up on Wikipedia every three days, so
I might as well just let's just throw everything at
the window. Yah, Mel Yamel's coming over here. Nick Williams
is coming Nico Williams.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
Sorry when you said France, Sebastian Latwo's head popped up.
I do have some soccer news that relates to the
Philadelphia Union and France minority owner Kevin Durant is about
to become a new minority stakeholder, and Patty Sint.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
Jermaine oh Man.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
So this either means one of two things.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Either he's never going to pay attention to the Union
again forgot we even exist as a possibility of that, Yeah,
Or we are now a partner club, so I'm hold
the ladder of that where we're like a feeder for PSG.
We get the first round of like the first guy
that turns thirty four. Yeah, so let's go.

Speaker 5 (37:09):
When do we get the Jordan brand Union gear? Like,
can we talk to MLS about giving us like.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
They let us go? We're just some Jordan brand you
did here?

Speaker 5 (37:20):
Look as a fan of Palermo who just saw there
his team go all the way across all of Manchester
because they were trying to see Daddy man City.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
And you know, look, I'll be I'll be under the.

Speaker 5 (37:34):
PSG umbrella, even though let's be honest, up until like
a couple of years ago, they really weren't that well
random a club.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
But that's another conversation.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Anyway, you got that Kevin Durant money.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
Now what I what I love to the fact is
you can go to Paris, you can and the hopes
and dreams of their national basketball team and then by
part of their most profitable sports team.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I like that. I like that as that's the American dream.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
That's trolling the whole country worse than Joelle Embiidd.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Here's the thing, no one control.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
Like people talk about Joelle Embiid's trolling, but Kevin Durant
is slyly one of the greatest trolls in the history
of mankind. So that wouldn't that would just be you know,
icing on the cake. He's like, what do you mean,
I can buy a soccer team too while I'm here,
sign me up.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
Yeah. Thoughts on us being PSG of America, I.

Speaker 6 (38:19):
Mean, I love What are you dreaming right now? It's amazing, Like,
keep it up.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
We've got some lottery till in the park afterwards.

Speaker 5 (38:27):
It'll be really fun when they have us at the
Fifth Avenue PSG store revealing our jersey in New York.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
It's gonna be real fun.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
All right. The Olympics. I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
The Olympics are great.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
I wasn't happy for the men, and I think now
Sebastian can sympathize with us because Spain did beat France.
Uh but god five three, that was a game.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
It was but Spain was it'd be better. But yeah,
I mean France, you know what you can do. And
we took about the fans earlier in your show, like
when you have country behind you, it's it's just so
you got the same one you brought to Bach if
you have fans and maybe you're on the Defibruary, but
you never know.

Speaker 6 (39:05):
It's a but spin is good man. It's been a
you know, winning everything.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
I was singing the woman walking to win aswel but
luckily as a US took it.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
And took that right away from me. US women win
the first gold since twenty twelve.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Which is a weird time.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
It's like a weird drought considering they win so much,
but they never trailed at any point in the entire tournament.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
That's not a weird sentence.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Should Emma Hayes be the US men's national team coach.

Speaker 5 (39:35):
Low key, She might be the most important coaching signing
in the history of the US national soccer program.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
Yeah maybe, yep.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
I mean, I don't. I don't think that's weird. I
don't think that.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
I think she look I'm a Chelsea fan, little little
bit of a bias on what she's done at Chelsea
for over her years. But even if you're not a
Chelsea fan, but you're a fan of women's soccer, you
know this. This is the Dawn Staley, you know, the
Gino Ramiella. This is the dude. This is like, this
is the the queen of Queen.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
She's Becky Lunch. She's the man.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
She's she is, she is the man like Emma Hayes'
is is a coach that and look, you could see
this response because one of the things I saw this
team was like you had basically out of what out
of the other than your goalie, you had maybe two
people who had been there before.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
You had a.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Whole new controversy. Oh yeah, so and so didn't make
it so and so did it make it?

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Espresso came for you and came correct. Look, I loved
watching those ladies do what they do.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
I felt bad for.

Speaker 5 (40:39):
Marta, you know, that's a legend of the game, and
for her to get all the way again into another
gold medal round and just the fall short that being
her last professional move for her career. You know, what
she did to Brazilian soccer cannot even be you know, quantified.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Against Messi and the World Cup twenty twenty sixtion.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
I feel no.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
Look I if we end Messi's career, I would feel bad,
but he already won a World Cup, so I don't
feel as bad.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
It's gonna get your perspective something.

Speaker 5 (41:09):
No, And also as a France fan, he beat Frans,
so I don't feel less bad. So yeah, you know,
but it's one of those things where I'm like, look,
the US women doing what they're supposed to do in
women's soccer has been refreshing. You have a new crop,
a new group of ladies. They're ready to dominate, just
like their fore fathers and mothers before. And I'm excited.

(41:30):
Look they did the thing that they were supposed to do.
I'm excited for twenty twenty seven when they go for
another World Cup because who's stopping Trainee Rodman and the
Olympics are going to be in La too.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
So talk about a country being oh behind everybody, Okay, great.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
It's gonna be So did you see the handoff no ceremony?
Did you see seb did you see the closing ceremonies?
The handoff ceremonies was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Loved that.

Speaker 5 (41:55):
Loved the transition into snoop Dogg and like we had
we would robe headless. Marie Antoinette too, we had to
do Snoop Dogg and Doctor Dragon And a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Want to claim that Snoop Dogg was the unofficial champion
of the Olympics, but I have it was a fact. No,
I have somebody that I think won the Olympics by
not winning. Sebastian, your fellow countryman, a pole vaulter. Did
you see the French pole vaulter?

Speaker 6 (42:25):
I I didn't see, but I help people read told
me about it.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
He knocked the bar over with his junk. You know,
the whole Olympic village was like, where's this guy standing?
I mean, this guy won the Olympics without even witting.
I mean, like God basically said, you carry the pole,
you don't pull vault like.

Speaker 5 (42:41):
I've For me was look, there's are a lot of
viral moments in this in this Olympic shot man high
fives to Paris. They gave me a lot of memories,
a lot of off the field of competition.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
It was that was the vibe.

Speaker 5 (42:56):
But look, man, sometimes uh that not all the dimensions
help you in sports.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
Some of them, no of them knock you off.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
Oh he should have been a rower or something.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
I don't know, but waitlifter, waitlifter.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
Yeah, so all right, a couple of things. Sons have
been Fantasy Football League and Adam, I gotta ask you.
On Saturday, you went down to Suparu Park to see
the Bridge Brigade. Have their sons have been day Yes,
to watch Union two impressions. Let us let everybody know
what it was like and why they should go see
a YouTube game.

Speaker 5 (43:28):
Real quick shout out to the Bridge Bagade. They're fun.
That was a great time. It was great to see
the young kids. Saw Cavin Sullivan score a wonder goal,
you know, the wondrousists.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (43:39):
Sorry, he probably scored another one next game I go to.
But look, it was it was a fun atmosphere. If
you missed the Open Cup, you know, if you miss
like if you missed the intimacy of just us being
there as like a handful of people and it's like
your buddies that you know, and it's not like the
over pressure like I think one of the things that
like there was just a bunch of all the sons
have been bored was there and they were all just
hanging out and I think, you know, there's been a

(44:00):
lot of pressure and a lot of like talk and
discussion about them and everything going on, and I think
I was refreshing for them.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
So get back to.

Speaker 2 (44:08):
Loving the game again. Yeah, yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
It was.

Speaker 5 (44:11):
I actually said to one of my friends, I haven't
had this much fun in Super ruin a while because
it was just the pressure was off.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
You know, I just didn't.

Speaker 5 (44:18):
I didn't have the relief that I feel when we win.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
I had joy that we won.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
Maybe the Bridge Brigade will ask all of us to go,
not just you, you know.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
No, I wasn't even really asked. I just kind of
showed up.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
All right. Before we wrap this up, I do want
to do one more version of bench loner play. As
we all know, this is based on the children's game
f Mary Kill. So I've got three jacks for you guys. Okay,
all right, and again this is based on your opinion
of their value as a player, not at the position,
that kind of thing. Okay, So we're gonna start with

(44:52):
dot dot duh, Jack mcglennys one gentlemen, Jack Elliott or
Jack mc nick. What is that guy's name, Michael Nye,
Jack mac friend of the pod, Yeah, man, so that's
your three. Who wants to go first on bench? Loaner play.
I think I can predict.

Speaker 6 (45:11):
This bench loan or play.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Yeah, we did this like two weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
I loan mckenernie, I play Elliott, and I bench.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Okay, what Jack McNerney am I getting? Is it that
like two months stretcher he was.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
You're just getting that total human being, just the.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Whole package, the whole pack.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
Okay, because like that one time he went to the Copah,
that was that he was on fire.

Speaker 3 (45:40):
That was good.

Speaker 5 (45:42):
All right, Yeah you're getting I'm starting McGlenn bench and
Elliott and sending Jack to the Netherlands.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
I am right with you there, I'm sending that guy gone,
keeping Jackson as we can that that.

Speaker 3 (45:54):
Look, there's too many could passes from McGlenn to make
me bench him. I can't.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
Yeah, yeah, I'll bring a lead all the bench.

Speaker 6 (46:00):
You know, I understand.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
But uh, you win championship Wizen exactly, and that's why
since you join that things, the team has been good.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
So yeah, so words words of wisdom for you kids.
All right, everybody, that was episode number fifteen of X's
and the Youth, Thank you for joining us. Thank you
