of thoughts on the subs in the game itself. And
I'll tell you what, that Columbus crowd was not world beaters.
They're they're they're.

I could barely hear them. It wasn't sold out, It
wasn't the greatest environment. That's just you know, a Wednesday
leagues cut.

A lot of the stuff that gets lost in a
lot of the protests when they talked about like the
League's Cup and all this was, it wasn't just the
sons of that doing it. It was pretty much every
made group in Is was either thinking about or participating
in some form of protest against this competition. So when
you see that some of these supporter sections aren't as
full as they used to be, there might be actual
planning along that. And it also might be just a

midweek tournament that no one wants to you know actually,
or you know, or just kind of an out of
the blue.

Tournament that people don't want to engage in. You know,

Moral of the story is, I think There's two things
that are really.

One throughout the roster. I think you can compete with
Columbus if you went throughout most of the roster in
terms of like the core in the meat of your roster,
you can compete with Columbus. You can't compete with the
top of their roster right now. It's just there's there's
two guys. And if you want to put Darlington Nagby

in there, he has had his career in there and
he plays well. If you want to put that in
the conversation, those guys are two of the best we
have in this league right now, and they're difference makers.
And I think you know, you see the difference that
individuals of that caliber can make to a franchise. And
that's and that's the Honestygod indus truth about that. Right now,

Columbus might be the best team on the continent. And
it's a weird moment too, because if you look at
the Union right now, they're playing very well. They came
into that game off of a gutsy result, you know,
and then they go into this game without their number
one striker. Mind you, who's the guy who ends up
winning the Golden boot for the whole tournament. You go

into an environment like Columbus where I think Wilford Nancy
is lost twice in the last three calendar years and
any in major competition. You go into a situation where
this team just comes off of being declared the best
team on the continent. You know, this is as strong
of a Columbus team as you're you're possibly going to
see or ever have seen, period. So I don't feel

shame per se in this kind of a loss. I
think that you know, the gap that you have talent
in terms of you know, guys who can create, I
think that was exposed. And if there's a frustration point,
it's that you want to know, can I get a
guy that good? But at the same time, for the
bullets that you had in the chamber and for what
you were going up against, you know, that result doesn't

shock me, like I'm not over here being like the
Union blew it, you know, like, oh man, there was
a ton of opportunities and we just didn't do our job.

It was just authentically a moment where I'm like, man,
Columbus is really good.

so your your thoughts overall on the match and Columbus
and how we match up versus them, And.

I mean they are definitely above especially offensively. I feel like,
like you said, Adams have a lot of fantastic player
you know already proved. You know, there are above you
know average for a lot of them. But they just
you know, the connections offensively, you can see that what
they do, everybody knows exactly, you know, how they want
to attack or trying to find all this ball in

the middle when it's the offensive player who have it,
you know, and they follow you see the goal a
second goal of Rossie, you know, with a nice coup
of Ramires.

everybody defense.

been for those two games against them, it's a lot
of running for nothing. So everybody on the field knows
what is the game plan, how they want to play wide,
how they want to do like a three B two
on one.

The ball to the front three, especially Cultrue and they
go see, and the movement of the ball is like amazing.
It's very fun to watch them play because they move.
They defend hard as well, and it's very hard to stop.
But the only time we were able to do something

like leaving them some gap in the middle and to

a lot of energy for sure, But when we were
able to do it, I think we caused them some issue.

I don't think we play very well in that game,

We let's say, play well after we got to go
against and after that second half we came out flat.
Colorado took advantage of it and at the end of

in the last couple of years they've definitely put themselves
in a position to be within more respect. Signing a
guy like Zach Stephan puts you in that kind of conversation,

an international pedigree for that. UA would be a sellable asset.

third in MLS and spending right now. They spend fourteen
point nine million dollars on their first team roster. That's
all the players on the first team roster, including everyone

signed a.

Fourteen year old two, fourteen year old two.

Even we don't actually have his salary printed anywhere, but
that's into the numbers and all of that. Of those salaries,
Mikuel Uda is the thirty seventh highest player paid in MLS.
Kadzak is the forty third highest player, Yakup is the
eighty seventh highest player. Kai's the ninety eighth highest player.
Andre Blake is the one hundred and fourteenth highest player.

That was before the new payroll, I think.

Of course, but he was, but he was only making
nine hundred and nineteen million dollars or in one thousand
dollars a year, where Kai is making one million, Yakup's
making one point one, Godz is making one point seven,
and it has maken essentially two million in terms of salary.

I think Seba's head's going to blow up listening to
these salaries for some of these guys, considering what he's
done for the team.

Well, for instance, right now, ty Bar Taya Burribo is
making seven hundred and sixty thousand dollars, and up until
about five minutes ago, that would seem to be like
a complete bust.

True, So now it's a bargain.

Now it's a bargain, and you had at the time
Jose was making about six hundred and seven thousand dollars.
But he's off. He's going to be off the books.
The Columbus crew, the team that is ahead of you,
the gold standard, the team that everyone is looking at,
is twenty first in spending. They only spent fifteen point
two million dollars on their roster. Now granted they spent
Diego Rossi's making three point four million dollars a year,

right and Tutor Hernandez is making two point nine million
dollars a year. But after that, Darlington Nagby's making one
point five million dollars and no one else on their
roster is making a million dollars. So you actually have
more players in between their top in their middle than
they do your Your money is distributed in a way
that is much different than Columbus. Columbus is definitely a

top heavy, top heavy roster where you've distributed your money because,
especially since you've had people here for a long period
of time, you're rewarding Glasnez, You're rewarding Elliott, You're rewarding
Kai for service and all of that. So you're giving
them those contracts. These guys come off the books and
you have to replace that talent anyway. You're gonna have
about two million dollars at least to play with in

terms of salary before you talk about gam TAM and
everything else.

So it's interesting to look.

At where you're comparing yourself and spending wise. Obviously Miami
is on another level, but you're not that far away
from people that you're competing with with money wise.

This might be, and we're not in the off season yet,
but this might be the most looked at off season
in union history.

Absolutely, Yeah, definitely will be.

But what you have? What do you are missing?

If I jump in your point, how did Columbus build
their roster? Tell me two years ago half of them
used to play in MLS. Next who won the title? Yeah,
And so what I'm getting at is, you know, right
now two is doing pretty well for themselves. But you know,

with financi coming as a new coach, plays those guys
and they prove, you know themselves, they are good at
the lower level, but then they got a chance.

To play at the higher level in MLS and they
prove themselves as well.

So all the guys like Zawatski who the captain yesterday,
like half Stem. You have a Farsi who didn't play yesterday,
but another guy is the goalkeeper as in Shorty. You
have like the forward Russell Row yesterday like he has.

There's like three or four more guys Morris who used
to play in Columbus too, who now is a you
know transfer in England. All of those guys played in
the second team and now you know that makes their
way to the first team. And that's why, like you said,
the salary of those guys are not very high because
it's just been two years. They are playing, you know,
and they tend to prove themselves, but they're playing.

And they're doing well.

There's such a big roster for Columbus because there's so
much people who can play any position and they got confidence,
you know, to play and right now in a gym
doesn't play as much on the youngers, and every time
he's like, oh, yes, they are not ready or they
are you know, maybe not good enough right now. But
in the same time it's like are you going to

wait to be out of the playoffs to play them
or you want to help them, help you now and
try to make you, you know, run and qualify.

For the playoffs. So but like you said, it's the
Columbus Crew rose there.

It's a lot of higher paid player some of them,
but then it's a big mix. But because all the
guys who are still very young come from the second
team and from themselves, you know, in their own club
winning of course the title is their second team and
then for the first.

No, so you're basically trying to just recoup salary as
opposed to get money and transfer fees and all that.
But what we want to compare organizations, and we want
to talk about the Union spending. The Union are twenty
third in MLS and spending right now. They spend fourteen
point nine million dollars on their first team roster. That's
all the players on the first team roster, including everyone
(28:57):
signed a.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Fourteen year old two, fourteen year old two.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Even we don't actually have his salary printed anywhere, but
that's into the numbers and all of that. Of those salaries,
Mikuel Uda is the thirty seventh highest player paid in MLS.
Kadzak is the forty third highest player, Yakup is the
eighty seventh highest player. Kai's the ninety eighth highest player.
Andre Blake is the one hundred and fourteenth highest player.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
That was before the new payroll, I think.
Speaker 7 (29:23):
Of course, but he was, but he was only making
nine hundred and nineteen million dollars or in one thousand
dollars a year, where Kai is making one million, Yakup's
making one point one, Godz is making one point seven,
and it has maken essentially two million in terms of salary.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
I think Seba's head's going to blow up listening to
these salaries for some of these guys, considering what he's
done for the team.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
Well, for instance, right now, ty Bar Taya Burribo is
making seven hundred and sixty thousand dollars, and up until
about five minutes ago, that would seem to be like
a complete bust.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
True, So now it's a bargain.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Now it's a bargain, and you had at the time
Jose was making about six hundred and seven thousand dollars.
But he's off. He's going to be off the books.
The Columbus crew, the team that is ahead of you,
the gold standard, the team that everyone is looking at,
is twenty first in spending. They only spent fifteen point
two million dollars on their roster. Now granted they spent
Diego Rossi's making three point four million dollars a year,
(30:14):
right and Tutor Hernandez is making two point nine million
dollars a year. But after that, Darlington Nagby's making one
point five million dollars and no one else on their
roster is making a million dollars. So you actually have
more players in between their top in their middle than
they do your Your money is distributed in a way
that is much different than Columbus. Columbus is definitely a
(30:36):
top heavy, top heavy roster where you've distributed your money because,
especially since you've had people here for a long period
of time, you're rewarding Glasnez, You're rewarding Elliott, You're rewarding
Kai for service and all of that. So you're giving
them those contracts. These guys come off the books and
you have to replace that talent anyway. You're gonna have
about two million dollars at least to play with in
(30:57):
terms of salary before you talk about gam TAM and
everything else.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
So it's interesting to look.
Speaker 7 (31:02):
At where you're comparing yourself and spending wise. Obviously Miami
is on another level, but you're not that far away
from people that you're competing with with money wise.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
This might be, and we're not in the off season yet,
but this might be the most looked at off season
in union history.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Absolutely, Yeah, definitely will be.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
But what you have? What do you are missing?
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Adam too?
Speaker 6 (31:21):
If I jump in your point, how did Columbus build
their roster? Tell me two years ago half of them
used to play in MLS. Next who won the title? Yeah,
And so what I'm getting at is, you know, right
now two is doing pretty well for themselves. But you know,
(31:44):
with financi coming as a new coach, plays those guys
and they prove, you know themselves, they are good at
the lower level, but then they got a chance.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
To play at the higher level in MLS and they
prove themselves as well.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
So all the guys like Zawatski who the captain yesterday,
like half Stem. You have a Farsi who didn't play yesterday,
but another guy is the goalkeeper as in Shorty. You
have like the forward Russell Row yesterday like he has.
(32:17):
There's like three or four more guys Morris who used
to play in Columbus too, who now is a you
know transfer in England. All of those guys played in
the second team and now you know that makes their
way to the first team. And that's why, like you said,
the salary of those guys are not very high because
it's just been two years. They are playing, you know,
and they tend to prove themselves, but they're playing.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
And they're doing well.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
There's such a big roster for Columbus because there's so
much people who can play any position and they got confidence,
you know, to play and right now in a gym
doesn't play as much on the youngers, and every time
he's like, oh, yes, they are not ready or they
are you know, maybe not good enough right now. But
in the same time it's like are you going to
(33:02):
wait to be out of the playoffs to play them
or you want to help them, help you now and
try to make you, you know, run and qualify.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
For the playoffs. So but like you said, it's the
Columbus Crew rose there.
Speaker 6 (33:18):
It's a lot of higher paid player some of them,
but then it's a big mix. But because all the
guys who are still very young come from the second
team and from themselves, you know, in their own club
winning of course the title is their second team and
then for the first.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Yep, the one thing is the biggest difference between the
Crew and the EU.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
Like that, Ryan, I like that. That was good. That's good.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
The transfer feees transfer.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
They're paying now, they did pay They did sell their
best player for about ten million and they use that
money for those two other guys for transfer. So that's
that's the blueprint. That's what you're gonna have to see.
Is the front offices the union gonna do that. Do
we have the assets to sell?
Speaker 4 (34:01):
That's the first question, first question.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
And if you do, does it go into the team
as a whole, like the academy or infrastructure, or does
it go into finding one or two bigger names or
our unpolished gems or the Quransas of the world that Johns.
So we're gonna say we're gonna say. Now, we have
Labor Day weekend Paris in New Jersey. So Union traveled

to Red Bull for Saturday the thirty first, and then
we got a little bit of a break because September
fourteenth is Miami in Miami, so maybe we hopefully we
can go up to Red Bull, steal a game, steal
three points, and then get some get some rest, get
get nat a massage on the back so he can

be healthy and get down to see Messi and hopefully
his messed up ankles still.

Damian Lowe wanted to make more money and he wasn't
going to make more money with the Philadelphia Union, and

knows he can go to Saudi Arabia and make a
lot of money because he's already played in a Muslim
based country before.

He passionately argued plead it to la let me go.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
So that's been so the Union were kind of in
a hard place because you don't want to be the
team that doesn't let somebody go pursue a better opportunity.
But he did put us in a bad spot because
this offer didn't come until after our window was closed,
meaning we couldn't bring any more players in, but we
could still transfer guys out the fact that they got
two hundred grand thank you oil money. At least we

got something for you, yea, honestly, and everyone's like, well,
we had seven games.

No, he was on a yellow card accumulation, so he
only had six games left with the Union.

So as much as it sucks for us that Demian
Lowe isn't there to back up the guys, and I
like the guy, that's kind of behind the scenes why
he left.

He was going to get double the salary he was
making with the Union over in Saudi Arabia, and he
chose that and the Union were good corporate citizens and
let him go. They could have said no, but that
makes you, that doesn't make you an attractive.
