Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ex president of the Sons of Ben Matt Gantastic ax
had Capo, Adam Booth, ex player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latou. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia Union. This is
exes in the U.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Welcome back, everybody, boy. It's been a happy, happy New Year,
hasn't it? Everyone here? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Who?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
There has been stuff going on in the Union verse,
So welcome back to episode number twenty six. In the
New Year. I've got Adam Booth and of course Union
legend Sebastian Latoo. Guys, how is how are your holidays?

Speaker 4 (00:40):
I was good, it was It was a nice time.
Good to see family, went back over to the old country,
saw the in laws, came back here, went to the
homestead down and Myrtle for New Year's so, you know,
tried to make sure that my wife traveled as much
as possible in her second trimester.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
So you know, so you onelike, the Union had a
good start to twenty twenty five.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I like to think so, I mean, you know, it's
all relative. I think, you know, sub.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
How about you? How are your holidays in New Year?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
It was good? You know o.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
You know, went to two friends to see family for
Christmas and came back and you know, enjoyed the the
Eagles run you know, in the in the football and
enjoys the court as well. I feel like he was
a pretty cool winter in the past couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Oh yeah, it's definitely been yep. So well, let's get
into it.

Speaker 6 (01:30):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
It's a new year and it is a brand new
Union there has been a lot going on in the
Union verse. I guess. First off, we have a new coach, yes,
Bradley Carnell from South Africa, Red Bull assistant Saint Louis
coach for a year and I guess a couple of
coffee after that some change sometime. I met Bradley at

(01:51):
the press conference. Seemed nice enough. Didn't really get to
talk to him too much. Sub I'm assuming you've talked
to the new coach a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
No, not, didn't meet him yet. I feel like, you know,
the news and everything happening. You know, the team went
to Marba, so I don't see anybody and I'm looking
forward yet two meet um for the first time and
see what he's all about.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, my first impression was actually pretty positive. He was
really open with the press. I thought, you know, believes
in his philosophy, which lines up parallel with Ernst's philosophy.
So we know what we're gonna get and they pretty
much told us what they were gonna do, and they're
doing it now. So Adam, your your initial impressions of

(02:36):
mister Bradley.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
You know, I looked at his resume and I think,
you know, you got a first off, he's a former defender,
just like Jim, so you got a defensive minded coach
coming from He's had World Cup experience. It's played a
couple of matches, not a lot, but he's played a
couple of matches for his country. You know, he's been
in MLS since twenty seventeen. You know, he was at
Red Bull for a while. He came over to Saint Louis.

(02:58):
You know, he was with the Cane Indian national team too.
So he's been in North America for pretty much his
entire man managerial career, like in the last couple and
it seems like he understands a lot of the football
over here, you know, And I mean, I'm this is
one of these things where it's similar to when Jim's hired,
you know, and Jim was hired in a situation where

(03:20):
he went from interim to head coach and after you know,
hackwarts firing. But a lot of people went into the
Jim curtain air being like, who's this guy, what's he
gonna bring to the table. This is definitely a wait
to see for me, but it's something for which it's
hard for me to go against Ernest just yet in
terms of his philosophy with coaching. So let's see what

(03:41):
this guy brings to the table.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, we just know it's gonna be red Bull style.
It's gonna be defense, it's gonna be pressing, it's gonna
be fast paced, it's gonna be frenetic, and it's gonna
be a lot of young legs.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
So if we're gonna say, I mean, like like you
said in Ernest, we still trust. But man, he is
shaking everything up that it's hard. Let's get into the
good things. At least center Back confirmed, Yes, I and
is signed on and I've heard nothing but great things,
especially about his acceleration. And then Jovann Lukak I believe

(04:14):
is the new defensive mid. I don't know if that's
been official official, but.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
It seems like from most of the sources I have
that a lot of the i's and t's have been
dotted and crossed there. So but you know, with anything,
it took them a couple of days to announce the
Muglenn departure, which will obviously get into that don't but
but it's it's you know, I think we can say
that he's gonna be coming in and a lot of
shake up yep.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
And they announced Neil Pierre. Yeah, Pathway to the pros
just signed. So I was teering from very high up
club sources that they think he will be a starter
sooner than later. Yeah, so that's what we're seeing. Sema,
what do you think about the three signings that we've
gotten so far.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
I love the I say the mix. You know, you
have one older lessness to show what he could do.
He needs some motivation to you know, play his best.
You have the younger, you know, Glavinovich, who is a
very good I think center back, but the same need
to prove himself and show what it's all about. And
you have Dil Pierre, who young, you know, who wants
to as well, you know, make his mark and be

(05:22):
one of the starters.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
So it's very healthy.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
I think we're going to see a lot of competition,
you know, this year, and it's I think it's it's
very healthy for the group to kind of like start
this one with Carne you know, doing the the mix
you know pretty much. But he started at the same place.
You know, there's not really a favorite or anything. And yeah,
I'm really excited to see, you know, what's going to
happen in the first couple of weeks and a couple

(05:45):
of games with the team.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah, and let's get into it. We know that there's
going to be at least one spot open for competition
because as we all know, Jack McGlenn was sold to
the Houston what are they.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
The Dynamo the DYNAMOFC.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
So Jack is gone for two point one million with
the chance of one point three million, Is that correct
at him?

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, so it's two point one million with a one
point three million dollar incentives clause based off of his
performance in Houston, as well as fifty percent sell on fee.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
Retaining.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
So if Houston sells him, the Union are supposed to
receive fifty percent of that cell, but.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
The percentage of that fifty percent goes to Red Bull
in New York City, So just so everybody knows, you're
probably looking at thirty percent.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
Yeah, which I mean, you know, after taxes.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I mean we'll get a little bit sebastian. Your thoughts
on getting rid of a talent like McGlenn.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
I mean, I feel like with everybody, I was a
little bit surprised to seem go. But in the same time,
when you look at what I was trying to do,
and you know, with a new coach, it's how to
know where Jack is going to play, you know, because
he's not very good defensively, and if he's playing one
of the white positions, you need somebody who is able
to press, you know, repeat the effort. And Jack is

(07:10):
more somebody who likes to be on the ball and
you know, have an amazing past, amazing shot, but he
doesn't really fit in what the Union is trying to do.
I think if they play the Diamonds this year, which
I think they will, so I think they had a
great offer from Houston, they took it and they're able
to know to cash on that, and it's yeah, I

(07:31):
mean it's a part of the game. I've been traded twice,
you know, and yeah. I mean, I'm sure Jack was
maybe be surprised, but I feel it was maybe better
for him to go somewhere and have all his talent
and you know, hopefully keep playing for the national team
because he has been doing great during the off season,
scoring a goal. And yeah, it's sad to him because

(07:54):
we saw him grow, you know, with the with the team.
But I think for the best of the squad, it's
better than maybe he's not because then he will really
put some difficulty to counter to know where he's going
to play. I remember at the end of the year
or last year, I was wondering why he was not
playing more number ten, you know, because I don't see
him being a defensive guy on the side, So it's

(08:17):
I think it's more a tactically no choice from the team.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
It's funny you mentioned you being traded, because that's kind
of how I felt when I heard the news about McGlenn. I,
you know, wanted to to kick the proverbial puppy like
I did when Sebastian was traded. And then, unlike your trade,
I thought about it and I go, they've been trying to
move him to Europe. The offers weren't coming in. He

(08:41):
doesn't really fit. And I used to tell friends that
are somewhat interested in the Union but don't know that much.
They're like, oh, what do you think of McGlenn. I go,
if he was and I'm doing like the one inch
with my fingers a little bit more athletic, he already
would have been in Europe. But he's not an athlete
that comes off the chart. He's not super fast, doesn't
play great defense. So yeah, I guess that's and I

(09:04):
think in Houston, the way they play possession base, he's
gonna show what he can do. I just hope we
don't play Houston.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
I think it's funny goes to Houston because he reminds
me had a lot to Brad Davis for the you know,
oh yeah, if you remember him, one of the best
artists I think in the league. Maybe he's the best notist.
But yeah, it's it's kind of the same time. I
feel like you're spinning to see him going to Houston.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, and he did such a good job with the
January camp for the US men's team. I mean, so
he was coming back and I go, man, I'm so
excited for Jack McGlenn with this twenty twenty five team.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
And then yeah, and I mean I think this is was.
I think when you're Errents and you see him score
that goal, you're just like, Okay, You're sorry, Like you're
now the GM of the Dallas Mavericks and you're making
phone calls like who wants some how do he cause?
I mean, look, I think one of these things was
and we talked about this years ago when we did
the other podcast. He was supposed to be and one

(10:00):
pretty much out of that entire group, to be the one,
the one, and he still has potential of being possibly
the most talented of the group, but there's definitely a
gap between him and the Aaronsons and really him and
the Sullivans. By the way, did you see we signed
two more Sullivans the other day?

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Yes? I did. Yeah, we got them from LFC Delco.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
There are two more Sullivans because there can't be enough
Sullivans of the system. But yeah, it I mean, I
really was a big fan of Jaquelin GLn. But similar
to Seba, I'm asking myself the question, where are you
putting him next year?

Speaker 6 (10:33):
If you're gonna run three up top wide?

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Maybe I find Jacquelin Glinn up top and just you know,
doing services and all that, but that's not what they're
gonna do. You really can't make them play defense that
hard because if he tries, he's just not that type
of player. So if he's not playing number ten and
you're gonna have Gazdak there for the foreseeable future, it
just doesn't seem like it's one of these things where
I can see why they try to fit Quinn Sullivan

(10:58):
into a lot of square pay and round holes, you know,
because sometimes like is he a ten, is he a striker?

Speaker 6 (11:04):
You know? Is he a wing? What are you trying
to do with that?

Speaker 4 (11:06):
But his versatility is he can get back on defense,
he can play multiple positions truly well and adapt to
those positions. Or I Mike McGlenn, I'm like, if I
can make you a ten or wing, and that's about it,
And I'm not even that sure about the wing, you know,
So as much talent is there and as much I
think people are gonna be upset that the cell on

(11:27):
or the cell was only two point one when a
lot of people are talking about four or five million
in his value. I think this is a good move
for the Union. I think it's a good move for
m Glenn honestly. And you know, with the turnover this
roster is obviously having, we're going back to defensive basics,
it seems like in a lot of ways, and I
think he needs someone who's gonna, if he's gonna play

(11:49):
out wide, play a little more, you know, Bucks to Bucks.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, the only thing I can really say about this
weird offseason. You know, we didn't get a big splash,
and we'll go through some of the names that other
teams have done, but I'm not going to give up
because I haven't seen anything. I mean, I'm going to
be intrigued for the first two months of this season
and watching it as carefully as I probably have god

(12:13):
since the twenty ten to twenty eleventh season. So it's
just going to be interesting how they play and what
they do. And I'm glad we have someone like Sebastiana
two that's on the ground and practice that can kind
of give us some more insights on how this is going.
And you know, so what do you think for your
your outlook this year for the season, Sabah.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
I mean, you know, they're pushing a lot of young
guys right now to kind of see what they can do.
You know, it's kind of very something different on than
he was. He's a bast couple of seasons. You're so
much more young guys going to pre season, especially with
Union two as well. So I feel like it, you know,
they just they'll try to give the chance to everybody.
I'm not trying to block, you know, anybody, and if

(12:57):
a young player is getting good, he's going to get minuted.
I feel like it's it's going to be much much
healthier type of.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Like fighting for your spots pretty much tradition. Yeah, and
you and you heard that a little bit.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
I was listening to Sullivan, you know, talking about he
has to still prove, you know, he can play, even
if he did a great season last year. But you know,
it's back to zero, so you know, everybody is fighting.
The young guys are hungry. Yes, maybe physically some of
them need to get better, but they are going to
get time to.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Work on the field and kind of feel the level.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
And I think you're going to see a lot of players,
you know, kind of starting for the team this year,
especially with all the games, and it's going to be
interesting to see when one guy is going to play well,
I think he's going to start at the starter, you know,
and it's not going to be like, oh, because let's
say Glassness was the starter for the team for five years,
or he's going to start. No, if Neil Pierre is

(13:57):
better and doing a great game and you know, we've
got to shout out on a win and you'll.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Be on my start again. It's it's how I feel
it's going to be.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
So it's healthy, and I feel everybody is motivated to
show what they can do, and especially meetings the play
off lat year, they want to get back to it.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah, and I've got one feeling, and please either one
of you shut me down if you think I'm completely
off the wall. But with McGlenn leaving, I think that
was the team saying we think Havevin's got thirty five
forty forty five minutes in them per game kind of thing.
I think it was just like, we're not going to
block this kid now, and we think Cavin's going to

(14:34):
be playing some of those minutes. I mean, what do
you think, Am I crazy at him? Or no?

Speaker 6 (14:39):
I mean, why wouldn't you play Cavan at this point?

Speaker 3 (14:42):
You know?

Speaker 4 (14:42):
I mean I'm not necessarily saying start him tomorrow and
you know, make him the savior of this You still
have to kind of like ease him into it. I
still think, no matter how much hype you put around him,
no matter how much confidence he puts in himself, you know,
this game can be cruel even to the most talented. So, oh,
I want to still ease him in. You know, I

(15:02):
still want to put him into the first team, get
him more minutes.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
I still want him playing for you too if we can't,
you know.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
But yeah, I also believe that at fifteen sixteen years old,
especially in Major League Soccer, I know this league has
come a long way, but why not you know, Miami
starts young guys. New York starts young guys. LA starts
young guys, So like, why don't you start young guys?
And you have still what is either one or one
A the best academy in Major League soccer.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
So these guys are good.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
You're producing good talent, Like people were talking about Pierre
for a while, Like, there's one of the things I
love about this fan base is how closely they follow
you two and the system.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Oh, they're like, look almost Phillies fans look at reading
Farm System.

Speaker 6 (15:49):
They're like reading. They're out and reading being scouts.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
And the thing about it is when you talk about
a guy like Pierre, when you talk about a guy
like Anderson and a lot of these guys they signed
last couple of years, anyone who's seen you too has
been like, these guys, these guys are ready for something.
You got to at least kick the tires on them.
And I think, you know, it's a catch twenty two

(16:11):
in this moment when you see clubs like Atlanta bring
back Miguel Amaron and you see oh yeah, basically you
see you guys come out. But then you see a
guy like Kubo say like okay, Chicherita, I'd be like,
I'm good, thank you.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
For your time.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
You know, I gotta get on. I'm going to Betts.
You know, I'm gonna get to my next step. Even
a club like Columbus.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
That had everything in the universe going for probably the
best RAN club on the continent, it's still not immune
to players being like, you know what, I can do
something else, or I can go someplace else, or I
want to go home. And I think when it comes
down to it, and I think this is something that
Earns and the team understands. You're going to need to
fall back on your homegrowns. You're gonna need to fall

(16:53):
back on your products. If you sign a bunch of players,
that's fine. But when Gareth Bale says I'm good, or
when you know Olivia Deru doesn't necessarily work out exactly
how you wanted them to coming in, then what you know.
And again it's frustrating because everyone wants to sign you know,
the next lots on. But here's here's the reality of

(17:15):
modern Major league soccer. If you want to compete.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Sebastian your thoughts on my hair brain theory that we're
going to see a lot more Kevin Sullivan.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I mean you will see him.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
I just don't know when you know, Like again, it
just depends on the ending of the team.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
How is he doing during the pre season. But it's
not just him.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
You know, I'm looking as a roster and there's so
many young guys who can really bring something. You have,
you know, like the end definite as a forward. You
have Vascuz, your TJ.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Only I think, what a great season with us into
last year.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
You have like mcanya, you have like Anil Pierre, you know,
or like half any low with so a little bit
like I think all those guys who can play, I
think Cavan can play too.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
But again, I think they're in a process with him.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
I think they're going to try to find the best
moment to give him more minutes and play. He might start,
you know, some games, but I don't think it will
be at the beginning of the season. He might be
more you know, there's the club. But again I'm just figurating,
you know, I don't know. Maybe it's been not the
first game. Who knows. It's it's really interesting to kind

(18:17):
of like start from zero, you know, this season with
the new coach, new staff, kind of a lot of
new player and young player coming from a familion too.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
So yeah, it's gonna be very exciting to see, you know, who.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Is healthy and who is playing at the high performance
because I think Canda is going to give a lot
of chances to the young guys, but.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
They need to take it.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
If they don't play well or they don't play at
the high stander, it's kind of like, Okay, you miss
your chance.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Maybe you would have another one, but not right away.
You know.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
I feel it's what's going to to be happening. But yeah,
I'm really excited to see all the what the young
guy can do. And you know, everybody of course talk
about Cavan because he has been you know, signed by
Men City and but for me, there's a lot of
other guys I think we can.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Okay, Adam first, Man City is a mid table club now,
So I don't know if we really want to be
sending it there need in Noddingham.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
For is the deal for the guy.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
But I was gonna say, you know, it's a place
where I believe Cavin Sullivan is going to definitely start
the US Open Cup.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yeah, and we're gonna get into that in a second.
Let me go into real quick the Union too. Ryan
Richter Ah, Yes, is the Union two's fourth head coach.
Have not heard anything where Marlin's going to go if
he's sticking with the organization at all or not. And
then there's two other big pieces of news. Cooper Sharp

(19:40):
Cooper Sharp is a sponsor. Did you see that, Sebastian,
your favorite cheese on a cheese steak, is now an
official cheese of the Union.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
I love that news. I definitely need to talk to them.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, I think we should get some cheese sent to
us at least so we can deal. Yeah, minimum minimum,
It is the best cheese for a cheese steak. No,
hands down, hands down, and then Adam, we're gonna break
them that you don't even know about. July fourth, Yes,
Philadelphia Union are playing Nashville. Okay, Philly Sports Trips is

(20:10):
running a trip to Nashville. Yes, do you know who
is going? You know? Well I might Okay one Sebastian Latoo.
The people get we are allowed to announce it. We
got special permission. The team hasn't even announced it. I
don't even know if they know yet because we haven't
talked to them. But Sebastian Latoo will be joining Philly

(20:31):
Sports Trips as the legend that he is, you know,
happy hour, rooftop, party, game, everything.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Sebastian, have you been to the bachelorette capital of the
United States before?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
I've been there, but I've never been downtown.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
I've been there when I play I worked for Apple,
but they put the hotel cruises the stadium, so it'll
be my first time in downtown.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah, July, how how.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Do they say whoa? In French? Because you're gonna hear
a lot of whoo when you're down there. Yeah, yeah,
lay wou lay woo.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
No, it's it's I love Nashville.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
It's it's a very fun little town and I'm happy
they got a soccer team.

Speaker 6 (21:13):
They're they're good fans.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
We were there Fourth of July weekend with Philly Sports
Trips right after COVID and let me tell you, Vince
did a great job. There was a rooftop deck party
for the fireworks. I think Nashville blows up the third
and most amount of pyrotechnics for Fourth of July. It's
just crazy and the stadium is great. So there will
be details. We'll share it with our socials. Philly Sports

(21:37):
Trips were just working out the deal, but the first
thing that happened was they were like, we need to
sign sebastioni La two to be the ambassador for this trip.
So if you want to see sub La two in
his natural environment with bachelorette parties and tractor rides, you
got to get to Nashville.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
It'd be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah. All right, guys, before we kind of get into
the regular news and MLS news, what changes do the
Union still have to make What do we need or
what do we want to see? I mean there's still
some pieces I think. I don't feel like we should
be done. But are we done? Maybe that's the.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Question I think you have to go. I want another
right back, Okay, I would look, I would like an upgrade.
I'm not against Nathan Herrel. I think he's really good.
I think he's going to be a great right back
movie for it. The other thing that shocks me is
why Kai is still here, like I would I know
there's been a lot of rumors, but like the fact

(22:33):
that he is still here to me is actually kind
of shocking. So that might delay some of the development,
you know with the with the wing backs, but it's
just for me, Like I would love to see it
upgraded right back.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
I'd love to see a starter push tie.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
For the second you know, striker position, or just outright
own it or just be a good backup. You know,
if this is now ty Berribo's time to put together
a fifteen goal campaign, and you know, good for him.
But I would like to just see some depth additions
that gave me more confidence about not playing major minutes

(23:10):
for al Janta Padoya and you know, not necessarily exposing
what would be what it sounds like is going to
be a very young bench too early. You and I
still would like to get some quality MLS journeymen, a
couple of veterans in here to you know, shore up
the rest of the ship. I think they have a

(23:31):
good squad, and I think with some more continuity. It
doesn't necessarily they're not they don't need to put too
many more you know, ducks in the pond, but it
would be really nice to just you know, get some
some depth and and put some money towards, you know,
just shuring up you know, all the.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Leaks, Sabah, what do you think, you know, what would
you like to see or what do you think they
still need to do.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
I mean you are going to be see if a
few move at the end of the preseason. But I personally,
I like the team how it is right now, you know.
I just like the mix, you know, I like the
mix with with all the players doing the old ones
the young ones. I we had so many players that
like Earn signed and we never really saw them. So

(24:19):
I think this year you're going to see everybody you know,
and Tyberryble just like an example of him, you know,
a year kind happy before we were able to see
him play more than three minutes, and he did what
he did last year.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
So I would like to see a lot of you.

Speaker 5 (24:33):
Know, players like that to take their opportunity and I'm
sure what they can do and hopefully become a starter
for this team. So I'm really like, yeah, excited to
just see what the young guys can do and see
if they're hungry and if they play the field stil
and you know, and especially if they mostly part of
them is like this team need to become together, you know,

(24:53):
they need they need to play with it for each other,
which we didn't really see a lot of that maybe
the past year or so, you know it was and
I think we have a great group. It's just to know,
is you know, then able to have everybody playing you
know together and know how impart everybody is.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Yeah, I think the only thing on my wish list
is and it could be there, I'm not sure, but
just somebody that is pushing gaz Dag. I would just
like to see somebody that's behind him that gives him
a little bit more sense of oh crap, I gotta
keep up my performance at the highest level. I think
that's the only thing I would like to see right now.
But we will see all right. In League news, Adam,

(25:36):
you want to go through this whole list, Atlanta United
brought back Migey ten million dollar transfer fee.

Speaker 6 (25:46):
Kind of embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yeah, I think they sold up for twelve and they
got him back for ten.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
I mean, is that good business?

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Well for I mean, you know, there's still two millionhead
and we're professional sports fans in the United States. The
Atlanta City sports fans went out to the airport to
greet him, and it was a good sized crowd to
greet him. Of course, now if that was a Braves
player or a Falcons, that would never have happened.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
What I've been told by my family in Atlanta, because
as a black man in.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
America, you always have a family in Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yeah, yeah, so they were told me, Yeah, that Atlanta
United thing is one hundred percent reel down there, and
they say half of it's because they have so many colleges,
there's so many transplants that they were like, we don't
have a team down here to root for. But when
the soccer team came, they're all up. We're down for this. So,
like if any team I expect fandom for other than
maybe like the Georgia Bulldogs or the rambling wreck of

(26:38):
Georgia Tech.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
Yeah, it's gonna be definitely Atlanta United.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah. And then they just backed it up. Emmanuel Leith
from Championside Middlesborough signed for twenty two million. That was
the transfer fee.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Yeah, so that's Atlanta.

Speaker 6 (26:54):
It's new money. Uh, new money.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Good news for US. Columbus lost. Shoot Joe so yeah,
he goes to Bedust wilfred Zaha, big move, Charlotte f C.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
What are they doing down there in the other Queens city?

Speaker 2 (27:10):
He'sos Fargo's to Seattle.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Yeah, good move for Seattle. Honestly, that was a great pickup.
I don't know what's going on in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Uh, San Jose gets Jose Martinez? Sure? Uh Seattle? Who
do they get from Paula Ariola from FC Dallas.

Speaker 6 (27:28):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Brandon Vasquez? Yeah, comes from Lega next to go to Austin.

Speaker 6 (27:34):
I mean that's just a lateral move at this Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Well it helps there.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
They're they're they're standing in the league, and I know,
I know what's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
A little bit more dangerous than they were last year,
that's for sure.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
I'm hoping after that collapse.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
And then the last thing that I heard and I
don't Sebastian, you had a lot to say about this,
and I think I was against it, but now I
think people are kind of getting me back to his
Them is considering a fall of spring calendar by the
twenty twenty sixth season. First it was after, but now

(28:07):
with the World Cup, they're thinking about implementing that. Let's
get Sebastian's thoughts on this again.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
How I was going to do it.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
I have no idea, but yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
I think they're going to take breaks in February maybe
when it's so cold, or they're actually going to schedule
it where you play in the South not in the North.
I'm not sure.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
Yeah, it's gonna be challenging, but now with the study
teams you know in the league could be happening.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
You know, there's much more nicer weather in a lot.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
Of town that we don't have to play in the
Philade December, January, February.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
So not playing Dallas in July.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yes, exactly.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
So Yeah, it's I'm sure they can do it, but
it's a lot of.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Like dates.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
But I feel like if they go to the like
normal schedule like in England and any other league in
the world, then all the nation norteen dates are the same,
so they don't have to play around that, which they did.
So it's yeah, it's interesting to see how they do it.
I'm sure they can, but it's gonna be probably challenging

(29:12):
for the year.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Also.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Yeah, and the coaching carousel, Adam, just to update everybody
what's going on. Bruce Arena is at San Jose Dallas
brought up their former MLS next Greg is in charge
of Chicago. Atlanta has Rodney Della New York City, Pascal Toronto,
Robin Frasier Vancouver white Caps Jasper seven Since and this

(29:37):
is New York City's six head coach in eleven seasons,
I kind of feel like that's the trend of MLS
soccer now. I don't think we're going to see a
Jim Curtin ten year tenure or Peter Vermese Kansas City
tenure anymore.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
Your thoughts, Adam, Well, to just gently go back real
quick for you with the conversation about the moving the
schedule from summertimes, this time real quick, do you want
to know how many cities in Europe would be at
the same longitudinal lines of mid to northern Canada just

(30:11):
out of a guess, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Nuenburg, Zurich, Milan, Lyon, Paris, Geneva,
all these, all of these, well, what I'm saying, all
of these cities, if you put them in our hemisphere,
would be in Canada.

Speaker 6 (30:30):
So for me, the cold thing doesn't really add up.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
When England, France, the leagues in Netherlands and everyone's been
playing outside in the winter for forever.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
A bunch of Vikings are used to that.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
Fine, we're we're descendants of Vikings. Half of Minnesota is
But like, the problem I have is you're gonna get
swallowed by the other North American sports.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
That's the biggest issue.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
You could beat in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
You could be college college football. The NFL, you're gonna
be with basketball. You're competing with hockey, You're competing with
like it's just even international soccer itself, you're competing with
That's the thing I worry about. Changing the calendar makes
sense in every conceivable sense, except for the fact that
this country has too many other options to give people

(31:16):
for your league.

Speaker 6 (31:17):
To stand out.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
The reason why it's good is because you're fighting a
sport that has one hundred and sixty two games. So
it's not a bad thing if you miss one Phillies
game to go to a Union game.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
So you mean you're not gonna wake up on a
Saturday and watch Chelsea roll into Palermo, go to Subaru
Park for the Union and then catch the Ohio State
Penn State game.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
No, I totally will. But I'm a sickoh Like, I'm
not the normal person. I'm not like and that's the
only thing I worry about. Like Columbus, for instance, if
I have to go head to head with Ohio State,
what like?

Speaker 6 (31:48):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
That to me just sounds like a death sentence for
a lot of these teams that are in these kind
of markets where.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
It's Columbus and Ohio State. Yeah, it's weird. It sucks.

Speaker 6 (31:59):
Look, I kept telling you Columbus was the city of Ohio.
I didn't understand.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Well, thanks for that, Adam p d about the latitude
and Launder two.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
I'm just saying I'm gonna I'm gonna go on this, Adam.
It's not true what you're saying. So just so you
know it's true about Yes, the competition, I'm scared about
that too, to play the same schedule. But what you
say about the same weather in Paris and in Buffalo, No,
not at all. Like freezing here like it was it
was minus fifteen celsius two weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Here in Paris.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
It's like minus to celsius Atlantok, fair night, but it's
so cold.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
It's so cool here.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
How long have you been here? You still don't to fahrenheit?

Speaker 6 (32:38):
My wife.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Zero? That's it?

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Look well, But what I'm ultimately saying is it's just
like I know that there's a difference in climate, and
Canada is obviously most colder, But like most of what
we're talking about here is, Yes, it's gonna be called
in Minnesota. Yes, it's going to be called in Seattle
for a couple of games. Yes, Vancouver, which isn't that inside?
Don't they play inside?

Speaker 2 (32:57):
They playing?

Speaker 6 (32:58):
Okay, don't for a couple of clubs, including the Union.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
Some of these games are going to be cold, but
it's not going to be colder than Stanford Bridge.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
You know.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
We we open up February twenty second, Yeah, well that
that's in Orlando. But March first will be colder than
any day in Stanford Bridge. I'll guarantee it's gonna be cool.

Speaker 6 (33:18):
Yeah yeah, but not the Midlands Stoke, yeah, okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Now Edinburgh, Sunny bourd myth.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
Right exactly exactly, all right, the last.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Thing we have and we can put a bow on this, guys.
Do you know what's back?

Speaker 1 (33:33):
What?

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (33:34):
The Open Cup? The US Open Cup. The Sebastian Latwo
US Open Cup is back and more MLS teams are
going to be participating, including your Philadelphia Union. Now, Adam Sebastian,
there was a lot of uproar about MLS, how they
treated US Open Cup, how the fans were in an

(33:56):
uproar and they should bring it back and the League's
Cup was a money ground because of all the uproar.
What do you think the first US Open Cup game
that the Union are in, no matter who they play,
what will the attendance be above or under twelve thousand,
eight eight thousand or eight people eight thousand, eight thousand,

(34:18):
eight thousand. What do you think, Sebastian? Are people going
to flock to the US Open Cup on a Wednesday
night in the summer.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
I don't think though, but maybe I'm wrong. I hope
I'm wrong.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
I hope I'm wrong too. I'm just being a cynic.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
But the thing is, the thing is, you know, with
the Open coming back, and what you talk about to
is there's no league.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Yep, no, thank god, which is is nice that there's
not as many tournaments and games for the Union or
for a lot of teams. I mean, some teams are
split in between champions and leagues Cup, but I think
they made a good compromise and I'm happy to see
the US Open Cup. I just want to see everybody

(35:00):
that was all up in arms. I want to see
that same passion filling the river end during the US
Open Cup because as much as I love hanging out
with Adam at a game with eight thousand people, I'd
like to see more people there.

Speaker 4 (35:11):
No, you know, And the thing about it is, and
I'm I'm sure Seba's focused on the game so he
doesn't notice. Man, we've played Open Cup finals with only
fourteen thousand people in.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
Super Up Park before. Yeah that was a final.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
That was a final, and it's to me and again,
I love the Open Cup. I go to all the
Open Cup games. I wear the Lamb mask anytime I
get an opportunity to it's It was the tournament that
pretty much reignited my love of the Union. Was their
success in the Open Cup during those lean years, was
the you know, flagging the cap of a lot of

(35:42):
us going to Open Cup finals and all that. That's
how I got some of my friends into the Union,
were those runs, those Open Cup runs. So I love
it to death, But I also know the reality of
this is you're not coming to see the Rochester Rhinos
or whomever is going to come into the town, or
the B squad of another MLS club.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
You should be coming to see your Philadelphia Union advance
in a tournament.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
But it's the thing about it is and we know
what this is, and and we've seen the evidence when
you bring in Club America, when you bling in any
team from Mexico, take place is sold out and the
Union fans are fighting, not physically fighting, but are in
competition with other fan bases. Anytime you bring in a
high quality club, you're going to make a lot of money.

(36:28):
If you're bringing in whatever the version of the Harrisburg
City Islanders PENNFC is still left. Even if they're still left.
That's not going to do it, and it's not going
to move the needle. And look, I know a lot
of people who protested for the Open Cup who are authentic,
who are real, who wanted their cup back, and they'll
be there with bells on. But a lot of these
people were just arguing just to argue about this and

(36:48):
was very obvious to me.

Speaker 6 (36:50):
And I'm just like, I want them to keep that energy.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
Because the Open Cup is something that's very magical and
very unique to soccer, and I don't think enough American
fans understand the glory of having a tournament within your season.
You know, they're trying it with the NBA right now
and it's getting mixed reviews. But I think as time
goes on, more and more people are going to appreciate
it because one it's more games. Two it has pressure,

(37:16):
but maybe not necessarily the same pressure as a regular
season game.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
And it's just it's just.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
A atmosphere that when I have my child, that's probably the
first type of Union game I would want to take
them to, mainly because it's not gonna be as crowd
the other one.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
I will say the Union do well in this year's
Cup and they make the finals, they better damn well
win because I do not want to be the Buffalo
Bills of the US Open Cup.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
Honestly, would be terrible.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
I don't think I could take that, would be Sebastian.
Your thoughts, we know, we know you love it because
you are the modern day leading scorer, but your thoughts
on the Open Cup.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
Yeah, I think it's it's great a competition in the US,
you know, against the US team.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
And I think it just bring you know more.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
When I played the Open Cup the first time, I
played for Seattle and we were in the USL. So
when we play a Meles team, you know, you want
to show that yeah we can beat them. So there's
no some pressure too to win this competition for mns.
But I think it's a great competition. I love the Cup.
You know, it's a different type of atmosphere. It's you know,

(38:28):
fun for the players. And yeah, it's and it's not
too too hard to win it. You know, if you
have like the home advantage, it's he helps, And it
was the case for US the two times went to
the final, but I didn't know it was just fourteen thousand.
The second final that's probably why we lost. We really

(38:48):
need like eighteen times everybody.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
You got to show up for these things.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Look, I mean it's a great competition. I like it.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, I love it. I love it. I can't I'm
looking forward to it.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
I just hope now there's a little challenge from me
to them. Yeah, you talk to talk, get out there.
You've never challenged the fans, never have challenge. This is
a new territory, territory for me. So yeah, so I am.
I'm looking forward to that. Well, guys, thanks for coming
back in twenty twenty five for episode number twenty six.
We're gonna keep rolling this year. We're gonna start bringing

(39:23):
on some guests. We're getting in our groove again, and
we're gonna get ready for February twenty second in Orlando,
and then March first, we have Cincinnati. So this season
is coming upon us. In fact, this Friday they're playing
in Clearwater against Cincinnati in a untelevised, unstreaming preseason game.
I wish we could see more preseason.

Speaker 4 (39:44):
You know, I always love the closed game just because
I'm just like, what are you hiding?

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Yeah, what is it?

Speaker 4 (39:49):
You don't want this on film. You just want Cincinnati
to see your formations, but no one else.

Speaker 6 (39:52):
All right, I see you.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Yeah, well everybody. Sebastian, thank you so much for playing
hurt today and making the pod.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah, thanks guys thinking about my voice.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
No, you're you're good. Adam, thank you very much and everyone.
Let's go birds, go birds, let.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Me hear you all, says he Now, let's go.
