Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ex President of the Sons of Ben, Matt Gantastic, ex
head Capo Adam Booth, ex player and forever a Union
legend Sebastian Latou. These may be exes, but they're the
experts when it comes to the Philadelphia Union. This is
Exes in the U.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Welcome back everybody to episode number forty four of Exes
and the U. We've got a lot of stuff to
talk about in the universe again. I am former Something
then President mattcindaac joined with ex head Capo Adam Booth
and forever Union legend Sebastian Latoo. Guys, how's it going
so far? It's been been a world win of a week.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Too bad, it'd be great.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, well, let's let's get into it. So we we
had the Red Bull two zero. We're back baby, after
losing two games in a row, we are back in it.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
We got d in the of scores and then Bruno
So basically people that have songs about them from the
major motion pictures scored goals for us. Adam, So what
do you what did you think about the Red Bull game?

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Adam well, as a man who tries not to talk
about Bruno quite often in this household these days. You know,
I think that was a classic matchup against Red Bull.
You know, as much as this winning streak against Red
Bull has been very impressive, and it has been, I
think it's when you look at games individually, sometimes it's

(01:31):
a struggle and sometimes it takes a little bit more
effort than your average. And this is not as bad
as a Red Bull team as their record would indicate.
I think if anyone watched them play last night, they
would know that as well. So I think it was
a good win. I think it was great to get
Indiana on the scoreboard. I think it was great to
get Bruno on the scoreboard. And I think, you know,

(01:54):
to get the guys back, Nate and Quinn back into
the mix, you know, get the mojo back going. I
think one of the things that was difficult was that
stretch that was difficult for the Union, playing Nashville, playing
Columbus came when the team wasn't at one hundred percent
strength for multitude of reasons. It's not an excuse, but
it's more of a it's more of a thought towards

(02:18):
the fact that now we might be seeing something that
is more closer to the actual Union that we can
expect moving forward towards the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
And you know, it was a gritty It.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Was a gritty matchup and it was nice to see
another clean sheet against Red Bull for Andre.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
So you know, I enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
And not to mention, you know, Quinn and Nate back
in the mix, Nate made a big difference. Sema. You
called the game, what were.

Speaker 6 (02:46):
You thinking, Yeah, I think, you know, we kind of
wanted a reaction from the team, you know, after the
two straight loss in Columbus to Nashville, so as it
definitely did, you know things. The first that was was
very good, especially like the way they have been playing,
you know when they're successful, which is no pulling the ball,
high pressing winning you know from Cana press and created

(03:09):
the opportunity and of course being presidents at pieces, which
they have been going the past two games. But I
think the first I was very good New York. You know,
Premios did nothing I think to promoting on top and
you know Foster were like not really forced bed, We're
not doing a lot. And then you know, the second
half was pretty much controlling. You know, we maybe didn't

(03:29):
create as much, but we got to their role we
got to leave with the pin shit and it was,
you know, a good professional performance from the team coming
back you after two loss it's never easy. And yeah,
it was a nice too that the result of the
other team made the union back into the first place
and they took care of business.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
But yeah, I really enjoy you know, the.

Speaker 6 (03:50):
First half from them, you know, the fact that they
bring more energy into the game being back at home,
and yeah, he was a good win to get back
on track.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
And speaking of home win, I don't know if either
of you, because I was traveling, I didn't get to
see it. I saw it, you know, on the old iPad,
but pre game, Adam, I don't know. Did you see
the ice sculpture that got melted and smashed or anything
like that. Were you able to witness any of the
shenanigans of the Sons of been Lot.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
I was very thankful that the social media teams of
the Sons of Ben were able to give us a
bird's eye view of some of the shenanigans going on
in the lot. I was tending to some family matters
at the time, but I was watching and I caught
some glimpses of it, and look it's always a party

(04:39):
when Red Bull comes to town. So you know, ice
sculptures this time, burning a bull another time. You know,
you got to always keep it fresh, and I think
that's what the Union FO was doing this time around.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
And speaking of social media team, shout out to our
own Xander Jackson who was on site for that and
captured it. So if you haven't seen it, check out
some of the socials on exes in the EU and
you can see Xander interviewing some of the Suns of
Bend and Union Faithful. All right, guys, Montreal, it was
yesterday depending on what time this pod drops Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Wednesday, Yeah, yeah, yeah, you go.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
So, uh, Montreal came to Subaru Park and man was
that ugly. But you know what, good teams win ugly
Championship teams win the ugly games. So but we're getting
close to full strength. Only Ian and Bueno we're on
the injured list, so we're we're we're getting there. And
you know, Bibo was the scoring in the thirty eighth

(05:35):
minute and the stoppage time of the first half. I mean,
Joe Waterman had a beauty of an assist to Prince
and there was nothing Drey was going to do about that,
and then five minutes in kind of it, you know,
just got his first goal of the year, So congrats
Jerre was Dre so yeah, it was it was. It

(05:57):
was ugly, ugly, ugly, but it was a w Adam
Seba who wants to take first on their review of Montreal.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Seba, Yeah, I'll go first.

Speaker 6 (06:13):
I mean it was a yeah, not the prayers game,
but like you said, I think we got the three points.
You know, at the end, it's what made els quick
turn around, you knows, three days after the win against
the Red Bulls back at home.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
But you know, I ald about it in our radio call.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
It's you know, when you play a team with like Montreal,
you know, dead Last don't play for anything anymore and
we have not even at a half season. It's always
a tricky, you know game, you don't really know how
to approach it, even if you know that you need
to play hard and you need to, you know, bring
the energy. It's it's always like the mental you know,
from every player. I feel like it's it's not here

(06:49):
yet because you believe everything is going to go your way,
is going to be easy. But of course Montreal make it,
you know, hard and you have to kind of dig deep,
you know, don't get frustrated, play you know at your level.
And yeah, it's been a little bit you know at time,
especially yourself, like tough to watch because we are losing
the ball a bit quickly.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
We cannot really connect any passes.

Speaker 6 (07:12):
We barely have a you know, an opportunity on goal.
And on the first one we say second one of
Barrio because you've got a little back hill where Braza
was safe and pretty in the corner. But then you know,
out of knowing nothing, you know, Denly make a good
run and it is at the end to score his
fourteen goal. That's that's great, you know, like you said,
it's what the good team you know can win ugly game.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
And the Union did it again.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
If we talk about mentality and you know, next man up, whoever,
you know, play play hard.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
It's what it was about, you know against Montreal.

Speaker 6 (07:45):
And you know that's good that we got the three
points six you know, in one week at home and
now you know we can hopefully rest quickly and get
ready for Houston.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, Adam, your thoughts on the Montreal game.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Yeah, that was survive game. You know that was a
game where you're.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Just trying to, you know, make sure that the guys
are just you got to get through this gauntlet of
games where it's a Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday Saturday
in a way that you know, I don't know if
I remember a more congested calendar in recent MLS history.
I mean, for a lot of reasons, but I digress. Look,

(08:26):
I think another thing about it is with the team
like Montreal, it's assumed, just because of the record and
how they've been playing, that this is.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
A rollover game and you should dominate.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
And I'm not to say that you shouldn't, but I
definitely believe, you know, especially when you're a team that's
in the supporter shield position, teams are always going to
give you their best shot. What the best shot of
Montreal is This is a good question. I mean, is
that what we just saw is that their best shot?
Is that what their best team can put together? Maybe,

(08:56):
but you know, I think it's one of these situations
where you know, you get the points to get the
three points. Here, you see what a guy like Prince
of WUSO can do when you have a nine of
that caliber, not to say that Taiberribo is not great.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
He is, but you know there is.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
I would say a little bit of a talent discrepancy
between the two gentlemen. And look, Montreal put their eggs
in the basket of getting a solid nine ten and
you know it's worked out for them, but I mean
he's worked out for them offensively, but ultimately then they
have three wins on the season. So again it's you,
I'd rather see us have more of our cohesion from

(09:37):
our top three than have a juggernaut like him.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
But it shows you what the capability is.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
Of when you have a number nine who's prolific. He
can just turn in a game upside down out of nowhere.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
He cuts an impressive figure in person. Let me just
say that the man is a monster.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
He is a unit.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
I mean, he reminds me of a former Montreal striker
Didier Drogba, honestly, like maybe not in talent, but in
terms of size and like he might be big.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
He's huge. That's that's a huge.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
That's a Connor Casey's looking up at this guy like he.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Could have he could have gone w W if he
didn't want to play footy.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Don't threaten in with the good time. That might be
a second career.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Now, the only thing I wasn't pleased with Jacob and
Quinn both picked up yellow, so that's something to keep
an eye on for the next game. Uh and then
you know we'll get into Houston. But it is not
going to be comfortable down in Houston. Even Seba in
the who's going to be doing the radio for that,
He's going to be sweating in an air conditioned booth.
That's how hot Houston is right now? All right, Union News. Well,

(10:38):
the only thing I'd say is congratulations to Tie and
his wife who announced they are expecting their first child.
So hopefully that child will be attending the StEB Ashton
lettwo's summer soccer camp next year in wild Wood Crest.
But congrats to that and Adam, we got to talk
about it. Blue is the color Club get another the mighty,

(11:01):
mighty Chelsea defeat the enemy of all PSG. What did
you think about Chelsea? I mean that that Cole Palmer.
You must love that guy now.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
He was It was not the expectation I was hoping
for this the game. But that's okay, you know, it happens.

Speaker 6 (11:20):
You know, you kind of a piriis you know, really
a beating real Madrid and then you know, forming.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Up out against Chelsea. So it's what so curty is?
What about you never know? You never know? But so yeah,
I guess congress to Chelsea.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah, Adam, do you do you want to say anything
about your beloved Chelsea? I mean, you shed some tears enjoy.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
I was very I was actually legitimately happy because you know,
I know everyone has a mixed reaction to the Club
World Cup. And I'm not saying this is the Champions
League or this is the Europas or whatever, but I
will say that, you know, for Chelsea to win this
type of a trophy, especially playing the caliber teams that
they played on the way to get to the trophy,

(12:00):
you know, playing teams from all over the globe, and
being able to get.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Their new guys in here.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
I mean, I think joal Pedro is about to set all.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Of the EPL on fire if he keeps this pace up.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Like my word, it's one of these things where I
look at that and I say, it's a validating moment
for Chelsea, especially after the last couple of years have
been because look.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
There's been very few teams who have been discussed as
much as Chelsea, you know, in terms of their transfer markets,
in terms of how much they spend versus how much
it's actually equaled. Look, they had an okay season in
the Premier League, not a good one by their standards
by any reach, but they would say getting something like this,

(12:47):
getting a trophy like this is great for at least
just the morale of the club, the overall feeling it gets,
you know, the guys gelled a little bit more, I think,
you know, and look.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
I'm a fan of it. If people are not a
fan of it at school, but I was. I was
happy to see Chelsea, you know, win this title. I
would have been happy to see PSG win the title too,
because I'm you know, I am a fan of them
as well, but this was you know, blue is the color.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yeah, I was. I was not excited about Club World
Cup in the beginning, but then I got wrapped up
in it and it didn't hurt that Chelsea was doing
so well. But I didn't think they were gonna beat
PSG because PSG was beating the drums off of everybody,
So it was it was a pleasant surprise. While I
was sitting in San Diego watching it at a local
watering hole and then back at work on my laptop,

(13:36):
so it was it was a good way to pass,
uh pass some time. So that was great. And by
the way, last thing I checked, the trophy was on
Chelsea's team plane, not in Washington, d C. So I
don't know what's going on. I'm not even going to
get into that garbage.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Speaking of upcoming events, August second, Frankfurt's coming to town.
No clue who's playing for Frankfort, but I know Browhouse
Schmidt is the place you want a pre game, just
because they're gonna have a couple hundred Frankfurt fans. I
think they're gonna maybe come down to the Suns of
ben wattin party like a joint tailgate, so they're friendly
against Eintrach. Frankfurt is coming up soon. Should be a

(14:13):
good time. I'm looking forward to it. I don't know
if I can make it, but we'll say lead news
at Nashville beat Columbus. Since he comes back from their
Columbus beating to beat Miami mean that MLS is a
parody league. This East our Eastern Conference is going to
be a nail Bier at the end July twenty third, Austin, Texas,

(14:36):
MLS All Star. I care about that as much as
I care about the MLB All Star Game. But hey,
Schworbomb gets three Dingers and gets the MLB so MVP.
So I was happy about that, But I didn't watch it.
And that's about it for news. The only thing we
got to preview, you, guys, Houston Saturday, eight thirty hour time,

(14:56):
because Houston is not just behind us in everything else
in the world that they're behind an hour in uh
in time. Yeah, I'm taking a shot at Houston. It's fine.
First time. We're meeting up with mister Jack McGlenn. Guys,
who's got some previews? Adam, you want to you want
to lead off Houston, and then we get the man
that's gonna be there to call the game to tell
us about it.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Uh what I like from America's fourth largest city, mind
you you know Houston, actual place home of you know NASA. Anyway,
Uh yeah, Legitimately, this is going to be a match
where you have a team that is not playing well.
They have one i think two out of their last five,
but the other three are losses and they're off coming

(15:39):
off of back to back losses, but playing in Houston
in uh July sounds awful. I mean, I'm sure Seba
can speak on this more than anyone else, but that
just sounds like one of the worst case scenarios in
sports to me is to be playing anything in July
in Texas.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
But that's just me.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
But like I I think you know this is this
is a situation where you want to be able to
get the three points out of it. You want to
be able to start to put some distance in between
you and some of your competitors because if you look
at the schedule moving forward for the Union, I'm not
saying cupcake Ian, you know, because you got to take
every game one game at a time, and you know

(16:20):
you must make it where you have to respect your opponent.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Everyone knows this.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
We can use the word favorable.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Favorable sounds good because here's what you got coming down
the pipe after this. After Houston, You've got Colorado that
ends your July. Then you have a home matchup against Toronto,
which may or may not be a Hey, let's rest
the boys for the quarter final against Red Bull because
you have Red Bull that Wednesday. On the thirteenth, the
replacement for the Open Cup game, and then you have

(16:47):
Red Bull again, this time in New Jersey. On the sixteenth,
Chicago comes to town. And then probably the two toughest
games you have left of the season back to back,
a game in Cincinnati in a game at Vancouver. But
then you come home for New England, DC, NYCFC and Charlotte.
I'm not saying that that there's a couple of games

(17:09):
in there that are going to be tough, and you know,
playing Cincinnati on the road is going to be tough.
And I'm not sure where Vancouver is going to be
at that stage, but I think going across the country anytime,
all the way to the other end of Canada is
going to be a tough matchup anyway. But this is
a moment where the Union can start to see if
they can put some distance between them and their opponents,

(17:31):
well the rest of them, you know, figure out the
rest of their schedule.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Well one game at a time. So Sebah, what are
your thoughts, what are your scouting on on Houston? What
do you think? I mean, Houston's an eleventh place in
the West. I know we can't overlook them, but what
are we doing Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
I mean, you know, first, as a player, I always
hate it to go to Houston.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
It's not a place you like to play. It's not
a fun now stadium. I never really liked it.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
And then you play that in July, which is even
worse because it's so hard. So you made it's really
like mentor you know, how to like motivate yourself.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
First against the team with struggling.

Speaker 6 (18:10):
They just lost three zero at home against Vancouver, and
you know they need to have a reaction, so they're
going to try to bring you know, their best foot
for awhile and then try to you know, get a
result against the Union, who now is first, so you know,
against the kind of little target of every team playing
the Union saying that you know, we are playing the

(18:31):
best team right in MLS, so we want to beat
them so we can make our mark and get back
some confidence to finish the season. And then you know
you have like the story of Jack Magglin playing for
the first time, you know his team Bake.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
It's always special.

Speaker 6 (18:45):
And different on when you play your first team again
after you got traded. So you know, I on how
Jack Magan is going to to do in this game
and the fact that we know him, you know, let's
not you know, let him run the show and have
a great game.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
And yeah, and after.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
It's for me.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
So it's a it's a a game we should win,
you know, like having saying where Houston is they are
struggling the fact that we are first. But I'm not
sure it's gonna be a great game. It might be
ugly as well. But can we you know, pull it out?
Can we can we get a win? Can we fight
out again against the Houston team who you know, not

(19:22):
really at their basic season. But we we can do it,
I think. But it's going to take again, not just
eleven players, and we're gonna see probably some rotation in
the lineup, maybe you know, some early sub because I'm
telling you with the hit, it's gonna be over there,
it's gonna be it's gonna be a tough one. So yeah,
let's not get frustrated. Let's play our game. Let's just

(19:42):
you know, stay at elevens against eleven and if we
are up one man like we're in in Nashville, let's
let's play to win the game.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
You know.

Speaker 6 (19:50):
Let's let's bring you know, more energy moving forward and
try to score goals because we cannot just play for
the ties. I think, you know, it's a it's a
game we we could win, and they should go there
to get the w. I think it's what they are
going to think about when they start the game.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Yeah, this isn't one of those must wins, but so
we should win. I think the storyline. Yeah, you're looking
at the glendas here of a chip a one shoulder,
and for me, I'm very wary about having Quinn and
Jocko play a lot with a yellow card hanging. And
we've got these upcoming games, so you know, it's gonna
be interesting to see the lineup. And Bradley's got to
be smart with his subs because it is going to

(20:28):
be a furnace there no matter what time, you know,
So we're gonna see all right, guys, I think we
should get ready to wrap this up. I know this weekend, Sabah,
you've got the two soccer camp coming up, and while
we crest, everybody all ready for it.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
Yeah here we are. We have like you know, on
the twenty kids right now, which is fun. You know
we can have.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
More so always a late sign up welcome, but yeah,
I have an all week next week, and yeah, looking
forward to have fun every morning with all the kids
and playing some soccer, you know, making them progress. Send
the two I mean give one or two good tips
that I have as a or player in my career.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, so twenty first to the twenty fourth wobble, Chris.
So it's it's after this weekend, sorry, spoke and Adam.
Speaking of this weekend is today. The final home game
for the Hot Birds is Saturday.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
I mean, oh, it will be the Unfortunately, we lost
both of our matchups this weekend between Boston and New York,
so we have not qualified for the playoffs in twenty
twenty five. So our final game will be this weekend,
which will be fan appreciation as well as Delco Appreciation

(21:38):
Night at Aston and Newman University.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
So come on game Saturday at six o'clock.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
So okay, you know if you guys want to also
watch the Union on your phone, Yeah, come on out
have fun with us.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Well, no, you got two and a half hours. I
think you could do with doubleheader a little more or less. Yeah,
a little frisbee and then head to an establishment and
you can catch the Union where Seba we'll be calling
that with Dave Leno live on ninety seven five The
Fanatic and eventually Comcast Sportsnet or whatever they're calling that,
NBC Philadelphia. All right, guys, everyone, thanks so much for

(22:14):
joining us. This was episode forty four. We're getting into
the half centurymark quicker than we ever have. Appreciate everybody listening,
and we will see you at the next viewing party
in the next game. Thank you everyone,
