(02:51):
head coach of the Southern Boon Inglell Eagles. There it is,
Brian ash coach.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Thanks for joining us, man, Hey, thanks for having me.
Brian appreciate it absolutely.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
And the gentleman that worked very closely with us with
the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association coach from Ray
Peck there it is. That's very more peculiar too, Dave Hicks. Dave,
thanks for joining us.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Buddy, thank thanks for having me on. It's pleasure to
be here.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
We're talking all state teams today, and you guys just
released the all state selections and I thought, what a
great opportunity to sit down and chat about these We're
missing mister Molder. He is working his tail off, he's
doing what he's doing with his prep baseball. He's going
(03:42):
to be out of town for a couple of weeks,
so we'll hopefully see him in a few weeks and
talk some baseball. But today, gentlemen, how hard is it?
First and foremost? We'll start here, Brian with you, because
it's the first time I was privy to this, I
saw that how hard is it to select these teams?
(04:03):
First and foremost?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Well, it's very difficult. It's kind of a three layered
part if you want to put it in that way one,
coaches have to be members of our association. So in
order for you to nominate a kid, you have to
be a member. Okay, so that's that's the first layer.
This year, I can tell you, I think I think
(04:28):
the record for memberships was a fifty five coaches. I
think this year we were up to six hundred and six,
which is obviously a good thing. So we're getting representation
not only from our coaches, but the idea is to
get representation throughout the state. So obviously the more coaches
you have that obviously you're you're going to have a
better mixed players that are actually nominating. So and you're
(04:51):
getting you know, regional selections, not just the candids.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well, let's get back to this. I know we'll come
back to coach Ash. We're having some trouble with the
feed here, but let's talk about the All Star event
as it is. And I know you're in charge of this, Brian,
how you doing there? Are you doing? Okay? Nope? Still
not yet. Let's we're looking at this as far as
(05:19):
how we put ourselves in a position to make this
event as as big and grandiose as possible. I think
that was such a fun day watching all these kids
play baseball, coming to get getting to know them. Where
are they going? You know what this experience is for him?
Their their four years of high school. It's kind of
(05:40):
that culmination, a little bit of celebration of that overall,
isn't it.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Oh exactly? Yeah, I mean this is everything we do
is the association is all about the kids and the
players and promoting the game of baseball. And you know
that is just like that's the final event for the
school year. And yeah, I mean we celebrate that, celebrate
those seniors that have put in four years of hard
(06:06):
work and get rewarded by by getting to go play
in that. And you know it was I tell you what,
I had so much fun Saturday. I was able to
actually get down there and sit in the dugout, you know,
a couple couple of games and talk to some of
these kids, and they were just so appreciative of the
(06:26):
opportunity to come do that, especially at the lower classes,
you know, and you know, we we played on college
campuses before, and but you know what, it doesn't make
any difference where you're playing as long as you've got
ninety feet and sixty feet six and you're playing with
the best players in the state. That's that's a big,
big time thing for them. I think some of them.
(06:49):
You know, I was watching the Class three four game
to day and Bou Carrier from Dexter, your interview with
him was was unbelievable. He's like, you know, he goes,
we thought we were pretty good, and we get out
here and see all this other talent and get a
chance to play with people we've never seen before and
teams we've never seen. So that's what it's all about,
getting exposed out there and letting them see what it's
(07:11):
all about.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Absolutely, And you know, you talk about Class three, you
had the kids from Loanjack. I love the fact that
Ethan Rogers, who's going to Wichita State.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It's getting some love, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
On the on the one side of things, showed up
played pitched Class five. Jordan Martin, I know he was
he was he didn't pitch. He's like, no, he says,
I'm I'm in this, but I wanted to come and
I wanted to just play baseball. And he swung the
(07:45):
bat and he was a big part of that that
win for Class five.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
Yeah, and he was in the running for MVP. They
had a tough decision on that classified MBP between him.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
And Haye Mona was.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and uh so yeah. And you know
and the Mosier kid from Lockwood Summit who absolutely with
a broken ankle, you know, when he was out there
tossing around and talking to guys and he just had
a good time with it. So in fact, he came
up to me, he said, Hey, I appreciate you giving
me an opportunity to come here. So I said, you know,
(08:23):
that's always always there.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
So I loved it. I love the fact that these kids,
and I think that's the way, you know, we were talking,
you know, as why some of these kids aren't showing up,
especially in the upper classes. I know, you're you've got
big time you on your mind and all that kind
of thing, but this is a celebration. You've worked four
(08:45):
years and you've worked hard to be part of this,
and there's a lot of I mean, I love the
fact Jordan Martin shows up just to have some fun
one last time, just to just to enjoy the moment,
which is what sport, what ease ball should be, right Dave.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
Right, Yeah, oh, agreed, agreed.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
And by the way, that classified MVP was Alex Alsop.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
That's right, Alex.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Also, I'm sorry, was a class one.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, class one. I know, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
My head still so from the last month, but yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Allsop was nails. Boy. He came out and pitched and
he's on his way and I you know, I we
we were talking before we started. You know, there's a
lot of kids that declined because, hey, my college coach
wanted me to go play here in my high school
or my uh you know, I'm gonna go play some Look,
(09:43):
and I know that you know, college coaches, you know,
I understand it's whatnot. But I think these college coaches
have to come to a place where, Look, I appreciate
the fact that you want to get the kids on campus,
and I know there's these things and whatnot, But why
don't we let these kids finish out their senior year.
Why don't we let them be celebrated for what they've
accomplished before it turns into a job, which you go
(10:06):
to this college campus. Man, it becomes a job. And
I know a lot of these kids want to get
on the campus and want to get acclimated whatnot. But
an extra day or two is not going to matter
that much, right, You know, I didn't you know, class five,
Class six. There was some kids that were there that
were fantastic as far as uh those things go. But
(10:29):
you know, you look at some of the top kids
that we didn't see that I thought would have been fantastic.
And I'm sure you put out invitations to these seniors.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
Correct, Yes, Ashton Nance from Blue Spring South was one.
Oh you know, let me go back through my original
class six lists here. I've got I've got like three
lists going here from at night. Thank goodness, I kept
them class six, uh you know over here, and yeah,
(11:13):
there was there was There was like thirty I want
to say, thirty two nominations for class six, which is
not enough. Now, I will say this. I know that
there are some coaches that will ask their kid, hey,
(11:33):
I'm want to I want to put you up for this.
Are you going to show up and play? And if
they if they say no, then the coach doesn't nominate it.
And that's why I appreciate that. But then you know,
there are there are some not many, that you know, well, yeah,
I'll be there, and then you know, things happen and
they end up turning it down. Tyler Wood was another
(11:54):
one from Lisamm at West Jackson, Gamble from NIXA, Colin
Kelly from NIXA, Uh, Drew Eckhoff from Borgia, Cayden Cloud
from NIXA, James Unwin from Slow Yeah, let's see uh,
(12:17):
Cooper Pumphrey from Ozark. He he is going to Missou
and he emailed me said he's been having a little
bit of an arm issue and he's a p O.
So he declined the last second.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
And I understand that. I understand that.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I all mean yeah, And I
want to give it.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
I want to give a shout out to this Daily guys,
Brodie Earl Beck, Evan Abbott showing up being part of
that team. Got a chance to talk to Brodie your
Earl Beck again. Uh, they're at the at the at
the game. We were interviewing him live on the show.
(12:58):
One of your guys, Keith Scribner shows up there. I
loved that we and you had guys throughout this whole
process that I thought was pretty cool that showed up
and giving them a lot of credit for coming out
and being part of that event. I think it was
a lot of fun and an enjoyable situation for most
(13:21):
of these.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Kids, Yes, yes, and I think you know, sometimes they
they you know, most of them go play at pretty
high level in the summertime, so they're traveling around seeing,
you know, some good talent. But when they see what's
in this state in one place, I mean, I think
(13:43):
it's a little bit on inspiring for some of them too, like,
oh my gosh, I'm here with the best players in
the state, and I'm going to go have a blast.
I'm gonna, you know, talk to these guys that that
I played against or have heard about.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
And I just like to get some of your thoughts
on this, Brian, the conversation that we're talking about here.
What's your thoughts on this with the starting with the
All Star Games, Yes, sir.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Yeah, I mean Dave was spot on. You know.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
I think if I recall, right, I think three out
of the last four years we've had the Gatorade Player
of the Year. I think it started with Carson Carson
mill Brandt, State Maguire. Now you've got Jordan Martin and
then you know, obviously Brody Earlebeck was our PBR Player
of the Year. So for those guys to show up,
I just think, you know, you hit it on the
(14:39):
head there, Brian, Like, those guys just wanted to go
play baseball. They've gotten so much attention, there's so much
pressure on these guys to win at a high level.
For them to come compete with guys that they've played
against throughout their four years of high school and even
prior to that, and you I think, you know, it
kind of brings it back to just that old school
(15:01):
yard kind of baseball. And I think and the root
of it all, like that's kind of what the Senior
All Star Game is about. Come have fun, everybody's gonna hit,
You're gonna be able to play multiple positiones, you know,
put on a nice little of those that come.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Out and watch.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Absolutely And I hope that as we continue to promote this,
we're going to get more attention to that, more opportunities.
And I love the fact that these Gatorade players are
PBR and I saw Brody got the PBR Player of
the Year. That's that, you know, Let's follow that up.
Let's get some of those talents out here, let's showcase
(15:35):
what Missouri talent is all about. And I think that's
the opportunity as well, getting all these kids, you know,
maybe even if you can, you know, if you play
a half an inning, get one at bat, and you
come and we can celebrate the fact of the accomplishments
of these kids and just what the the work that
(15:56):
they've put in to get where they're at. I think
that's to me, is is what this should be about.
That's my opinion.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Yeah it is. And you know in that Class six game,
I found this out after the fact that you know,
it's free substitution, so those guys can trade in and
out whenever. And one of the I don't even remember
who it was now, somebody came up the idea of, hey, outfielders,
you go play the infield and the infielders go play
the outfield for the last couple of innings, and they
(16:26):
did it, you know, and that that Deani Deanie's the
second basement from Truman. He made that throw to the
plate to nail that kid. And you know, those are
the things that they will remember from that game, is
doing things like that.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Absolutely, And I loved I loved the Chinese fire drill
from Class five in the last inning. That was hilarious.
After they made it out the whole they just switched.
Everybody just switched. I thought it was hilarious. It was fantastic.
Those are things you know, you haven't seen that since
(17:00):
you were like twelve, right, And it's just fun. It's
just a lot of fun. I want to come back
to this. We're going to we're gonna we're gonna talk
about the all state teams and whatnot. And I know
we had some trouble. Coach Ash was talking about the
layers that are involved here and this last layer that
(17:24):
you've been talking about, Coach Uh that that you know
puts a lot of emphasis here on these selections. Go
ahead and share with the folks, so.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
You know, you want as good a representation for out
the state. You don't want to you know, log jammed
with the Woolves and Bears, because yeah, there's really good players,
but there's good players across.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
So when when so you got.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
No and there are kids who are All state calbunds
that did not make make the team. And I want
to make preface that because there are great players out
there that didn't make it. But when you start deciphering
through all of the information that the coaches were deciphering,
you know, I think part of that is looking at
you know, strength to schedule, you know, have a lower
(18:23):
batting average than a kid, but maybe played a little
tougher of a schedule, so you're seeing better quality arms.
You know, that does take in consideration on that, but
it's difficult, and I think it's important when the coaches
show up, they're able to represent their region. Because coach
does not show up to the meeting dominated a kid.
(18:45):
There are only may be a couple of coaches in
there that can really speak on that young man, and
where the rest of us don't know the kid, we
haven't seen them play. We're just looking at stats. So
everything's very subjective and that is when you're dealing with subjectivity,
that's Coolah. So we do the best we can to
select all state team. Is it a thousand percent bomb
(19:09):
proof and correct?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
No, it's not.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
And I want to make sure that we understand that
because there's kids that didn't make All States that are
all State couner kids and they got it to select.
And I will say this, I could come class four.
There was probably close to fifty coaches in the room.
They were great because everybody was able to talk about
(19:35):
and that was nominated. There was not one kid that
did not get talked about and you know, in some
you know very thoroughness all the type of player they are.
So but once you for going back, you know you're
selecting x amount of pitch of infielders, outfielders, d H, utility,
and then you narrow down to the all state team
(19:56):
and you've got three teams first team, second team, honorable mentioned,
and a lot of times the conversation really get difficult
is you've got a lot of coaches I think the
kids should be the first teamers, the second teamer, and
narrow it down to who who's our top five infielders
(20:18):
state of Missouri. Are they all interchangeable first to second
to honorable mention?
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Probably, I mean they really are. You really get down
to it, so you know, to me, I really think
you make an All state team. Whether you're anable mentioned
our first team, at the end of the day, you're
an All State And that's really what we're trying to
accomplish is make sure we're recognizing those kids that are best.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Of the best.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Absolutely. You know, Dave, I thought you did a great
job here because we look at in class one from
the All state selections, Caden Monic second team pitcher, Gage
Kelly and second team Justin Gregory honorable mentioned John Ruble.
Those four pitchers were at the All Star Game.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
UH.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
In the UH catchers, we had Logan Moran from Lakeland,
first team All State, UH, Cayden uh I belt I
believe that, Senna Sentinich.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
Cinich yeah since Sinich, Yes, my.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Tongue quit working, and an honorable mention case and Gaston.
So yeah, everybody represented there from Lakeland, Bramer and Somersville.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
UH.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
We had three second team guys on the infield UH,
Grady Hirska, Andrew Doherty and Jordan Haley. Atlanta represented Wheatland.
Who was in the final four in Bramer High School outfield? Yeah,
Joe Heater, which is Joe Heater. Joe ought to be
a pitcher though, man with that last name.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Well then there was another kid. There was another kid
that I saw on the UH from New Heights and
maybe class to smoke Azelle. That's another great name, right, Yeah,
they can't make that lead growing to smoke Azelle. And
he was a catcher too, So I love that, man,
I love that.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
Yeah. Of the all staters I was looking last night,
fourteen all staters on that Class one team and twelve
of them were there.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Absolutely good, That's fantastic. I love seeing that there's some
first team all you know, Saint Elizabeth of course, the
state champs. Brian Well represented or ran right there as well,
Northland Christian Faith, Christian Well represented, some Wetland. These are
(22:39):
teams that I love, the Wellington Napoleon all throughout the state,
there was a lot. Here's one, Like I said, I
have never heard of Otterville, Missouri.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
That's just north of east of Sedalia. I think there's
about twelve people there.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Yeah, I mean, so I'm gonna give a shout out
to Brayden Eads the senior making that the all state
team Class one Otterville. Who were some of the guys
that stood out for you there?
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Brian Well in the Class one.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I can't I can't speak on all the other classes
because I'm running the all state meetings, so I didn't
get to watch any of the senior game, uh for
some of that stuff, But you know, the ones that
stick out in my mind, obviously because I'm Central Mury,
but obviously Elizabeth.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Over the last years, you know, I've seen.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Those kids play both Kime the boys obviously Gavin Williams
was the Class one Player of the Year. UH really
really stick out obviously Oran Power, but yeah, the same
e guys really stick out. Just type of ball players
they are. The community really embraces the baseball program and
(24:10):
all their sports and UH record and their their history
in the last six years that they're they're a team
that can really play against anybody. They were in the
Columbia Tournament playing against Class five six schools this year
and I don't know if they won a game, but
(24:30):
they were in some ball games. You know, we're playing
Willards and you know, the Stays of the world, which
they did play, and they were hung with them. I
mean that that just view that Uh some of these
small town UH players are really high level players. They're
just you know, they're at a smaller school. So those
(24:51):
just come to my mind, are off the bat because
they're they're a little bit more local than me. But
unfortunately I didn't get to watch a lot of Senior
All Star stuff because I was running those state meetings.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Saint Elizabeth Gavin Williams player of the Year. How does
that get selected, Dave?
Speaker 5 (25:12):
That would be a question for Brian Oh Okay.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
All right, all right, go ahead, Brian.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Yeah, yeah, So the Player of the Year. We started
doing this last year.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
We've always selected a Player of the Year negotiation and
we recognize her at our conference that we have in January,
and so last year we want to do a class
Player of the Year for each class, so six players
of the year, and then our sec board, which is
(25:45):
I'm a part of that, we select an overall nhs
BCA Player of the Year based on each one of
those kids that are nominated for their class. So that's
kind of how that works. But the coach ley you know,
you nominate like uh, ample class for us was Brennan
Boring from Carlson. We had six nominations the players, every
(26:10):
one of those coaches were there dominated kid and they
were all very nerving.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Uh uh.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Basically what we did is we just went on coaches
that were in attendance, which I said, like it was
probably closely and we we voted and they turned their
paper in and we just kind of tallied it up
and Brennan Goring uh by two votes, uh one our
Class four player of the Year. So every class did that.
(26:39):
You're ultimately trying to find the best player, you know,
typically the kid that is a bully type kid. I
would say, especially at the smaller schools, because they're probably
your best hitter, but then they're all of your best
picture as well.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
You see that at the smaller schools.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
You know, Brody Earl Beeck was player of the year
Assidix and he was a two way guy and just
the fhenals I don't have to shoot in front of
me pretty.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
County.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
On five, you mentioned Rogers on class three pass two again,
I off my head who won class too. Yeah, that's
kind of how it goes about kicking the player here.
So together in November and the board will actually compile
(27:34):
all the names well all you know obviously level of
competition and the things that provide. We'll pick an overall
player here will well uh that player uh Princeton January.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
So we're gonna go through this. We're gonna because so
class one, as we said, Saint Elizabeth Gavin William is
the player of the year. In class two, there's some
notables from the All Star Game that were there. Lucas
Cashman was the first team All Star All Stater pitcher
from Tipton Easton Fowler, which I really enjoyed watching him play.
(28:16):
Dave Senior from Chaffie the catcher, that young man. I mean,
you don't see too many catchers with this kind of
speed either. No, that's that's so. You know, Chris Gabbard
from Maysville, Will Crumpley from Marionville, Cooper Harvey who we've
seen with the Washington Post two eighteen out of West
(28:39):
Tran High School another he's listed as a catcher. And
then we have Wyatt Ducas. Wyatt Ducas from Crestridge, Dylan
Willis from Maysville, Jackson Burnie from Crocker all first team
in field along with Jase Walker from New Heights Christian Academy,
(29:02):
Honorable Minching, Vincent Dale, vint Or Vince as he goes
by Scotland County Senior. What was interesting is we were
live streaming the Premier Collegiate Developmental League for Brett Graves
at Carshield Field and this young man works with Brett Graves,
(29:25):
his pitching development whatnot, speaks very highly. This was a
very nice young man. Enjoyed speaking with him. I love
to see this because you see, here's this class two
kid who is, for one, a heck of a good
baseball player two, very articulate, really enjoyed the conversation, had
(29:49):
that head on straight, knew exactly where he was going,
what he was doing. And so it's really a tribute
to the overall scope of all classes. Small town but hey,
this kid, you never know, this is the kid that
may pop up on the radar all of a sudden.
You see one day on the mound or in the
outfield and you're like, hey, I saw that kid play
(30:11):
high school baseball.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Who knew?
Speaker 3 (30:14):
You know, it's a small town kids like in the
major leagues. Mason Morris Putnam County, Ike Dmouth and another
kid from Harrisburg that played very well. And yes he was, Yes,
he was uh player of the year for class two
out of Miller High School the state champions which sounds right,
(30:36):
Jace Wilkinson and uh so Miller got on a run
won the state title and Jace Wilkinson is the player
of the year Class three.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Again.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
If I can add something there for that that Jace Wilkinson.
He's only a sophomore too, so he's got two more
years too.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Oh did I mess that out stuff?
Speaker 5 (31:03):
No, it was just not mentioned. I just noticed it
was sophomore man that's Uh, Miller may make another run
next year.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Youthful. I was thinking of one of the kids playing
in the All Star Game. No, okay, cool, Yeah, just
a sophomore Class three dominating. Uh. There were some really
good baseball teams, of course, all the kids from Loan Jack,
Ethan Rogers, Clayton Laden at the top there. Pitching wise,
what I thought was was really outstanding, uh for the
(31:34):
All Star team Dave one two, three, four, five, six, seven,
all state arms on that roster, brock Boat right from Fairgrove,
Clayton Layden from Loan Jack who I thought Clayton Layden
pitched very well. The lefty, Uh, he's he's really good.
Gavin Reese from Liberty mountain View best. One of the
(31:58):
best UH logos in the state is killer Tucker Jones
out of South Callaway, Gavin Hubbard from Valley Park, and
Preston Rains from Stockton.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
That's a. That's a. That's a good pitching staff right there.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
How'd you like to take those seven guys and go
play all summer?
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Pick me?
Speaker 3 (32:19):
I'll take that right. Coach Josh is going, Can I
have some of that?
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Uh? Julie and Tebow West County kid down here south
of UH Saint Louis area. Really enjoyed talking with him.
Land and Dan User Lone Jack second team catchers. They're
playing ball UH Cannon Buckner from Licking, Hudson Dunlap West County,
(32:55):
Ethan Edwards South Callaway infield All Stars, Brett Nicholson from
Loan Jack, Eli Sitzer from Pembroke Hill, which they had
a really good season. They were a team that I
hadn't heard of before, but man, they were winning a
lot of baseball games. Coach.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
Yeah, they knocked off Loan Jack in the district championship.
So and by the way, Julian Tebow was the MVP
of that game of the Class three for Class three
as well.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
There you go Easton Hubbard from Stockton and of course
is coach Ash alluded to Ethan Rodgers, the senior from
Loan Jack was the player of the year Wichita State.
And we were talking about this earlier, Coach Ash. You know,
here's a young man had it to big time. You
I know it's not the SEC or whatnot, but which
(33:48):
DA State, it's Division one program. I think it's Conference USA.
He comes out, shows up at the All Star game,
throws an inning. He got started, he told the coach,
I want to start. Absolutely, let's do it. I have
a lot of respect for that kid, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
I mean, you know, regardless of what class he is,
he's one of the best players in the state. So
let's get that out right now, you know, for him,
you know, I think it was cool. You know, some
of those kids, you know, they have that competitive desire,
you know, they want to go out and you know,
he obviously is a high level pitcher. He probably wanted
to go out and have that last little high school,
(34:33):
little experience on the mound before real real form at
wichitall states so cool to see, you know. He they pitched.
He pitched against the Class four. I didn't get down
and there watch a little bit of that. I had
three players in it, so I kind of wanted to
watch that matchup. I was a little late getting there,
so I didn't see from what I heard from the
(34:55):
other playout there with Ethan. So and I've had an
opportunity to watch eth then down in Georgia at the
Future Games, the PBR Future Games, and and you're you know,
you're really going against the best of the best down there,
and he he excelled very well. I think this was
his sophomore year when he did this, so uh, I
(35:18):
I wasn't shocked at the kind of career in the
year he had because I knew, I knew what kind
of guy he was and player was so uh kudos
to him, and big shout out to Dustin Darby. He's
a good friend of at Loan Jack. He's done a
great job building that program. And again for kids like
that to show up the All Star Game, the Jordan
(35:39):
Martin's and girl becks and that made it.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
I think it.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Uh, it really puts a little a little bit more, uh,
I guess lying on our association and the good things
that we're actually doing.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
Absolutely, and and Ethan Rogers may not make it to
which daw State is.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
On the draft here, that is accurate. Yeah, that is accurate.
Speaker 5 (36:03):
And I was hearing somewhere between third and sixth round.
I think it was what he was And I was
listening to him in the dugout down here talking to
another coach, and he was talking about where all he's
got to go this week to throw for major league teams.
He's got to go to Chicago to throw for two
(36:25):
or three teams there and he's going to somewhere else
to throw for somebody else, going to somebody else's workout.
So which daw stave May I kid him? Which I'm
the Missouri state guy, so I'm okay with that.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
So Class four coach Asher's wheelhouse here riding. Ryan Souden
came in from Frederick Town. Pitcher really enjoyed watching him
play his first teamer Kate Baum for Moberley. Honorable mention
there on this on the second team Catchers Easton Wood
(37:02):
from Frederick Town came in just in case from Fulton
was there. We had Jackson Angle there from Moberly. Really
enjoy watching Jackson play. Jack Burley, Uh, that's head coach
at Warranton, Eric burley Son. He played at Dushene High School.
Landon Nolan from Savannah. Brendan Gearing was there and of
(37:27):
course the player of the year. And we've we've gotten
to know. I've watched Brandon Garring play since he was
a freshman on that team and watched him grow and whatnot.
That's one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet. Uh,
one of the one of the best kids. Just a
(37:48):
really interesting young man to talk to.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I felt.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
You know, it's one of the I don't I don't
root a lot I I other than for fort Zumwalt East.
Everybody knows that I try to stay back and just
leave things are, but it really hurt. I went to
the district game just to kind of cover it between
Dushin and St. Charles West, and that Duchene team was
(38:14):
really good. They won the game two to one. Jack
Burley had a home run, had another RBI was the
two runs that beat Saint Charles West, and Gering was
on the mound, pitched well, had a good day at
the plate, and he hit just an absolute rocket back
at the picture for Dushen who was just like caught
(38:40):
it and didn't know he caught it until he looked
in his glove kind of thing. And seeing him after
the game, I kind of hurt for him. That was
one of the ones that was just kind of like, wow,
that was tough for me. I was like, I had
to get myself together because a lot of those kids
from what Matt Box, Brady Hilker, Adam Kulk, I've watched
(39:02):
since their freshman year and it was it's a good
group of kids and I really enjoyed talking with them
quite a bit. So uh, congratulations to Brendan Gearing for
being the uh Player of the year here in the
Missouri in Missouri, so uh, kudos to that young man.
Got to keep an eye on him. And I see
an Ash here in the second team as a freshman
(39:24):
Southern Boon. You know, people say, oh, there, no man,
this young man his uh uh, there's a lot of
buzz about your your your son there. Coach. I know
it's hard to talk about it like that sometimes, keep
perspective and whatnot. But uh, he is that kind of player,
isn't he. I think he froze right now.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
He is, and the challenge him is to obviously maintain that. Yeah,
he's a good player, and I treat that whole this
whole situation. I treat any other of my players that
I So I've got to take the dad goggles off
and put the coaching goggles on. And I feel to
do that coaching him and anything that he gets. You know,
(40:11):
I hope people understand that's on his own accord. So, uh,
you're a great player. He'll continue to be good.
Speaker 5 (40:19):
And Uh.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
The good thing for me is I've gone for three
more years and we've got a really good young group
of talent here at Southern Boon, So I'm really for
what we have coming up. But yeah, all State and
then Brad I'm and a senior, the lone guy on
our twenty two state championship team. You know, he's a
(40:40):
second team utility. He had a tremendous for us offensively
and on the mound, and he's going to go to
State Fair and do great things. And you know, real
proud of represent then, like you mentioned Jackson Eagle and
Kye Home and Philly or sorry, oh I'm losing a
(41:03):
mink here, Millyton. You know, there's a lot lot of
mid Missouri talent. It's good to see those guys get
represented not only the Senior All Star Game, but also
on the All State teams.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Absolutely, Braydon Beckman looked really good. I enjoyed watching him play.
And a young man that's not going to be playing
at the next level, he's moving on playing basketball. I
believe it is a Jace Wren who Yeah, Dave, did
he not make a couple of plays?
Speaker 1 (41:32):
You know what I went.
Speaker 5 (41:33):
I saw I saw the second one in person, and
I thought that ball was down. Now I went back
and was watching that game last night and he made
one early going toward rights center, he made two diving
catches ash and I was like, somebody's like, how do
you get to that? And like, shoot, he plays out
there all the time. He used to it. He knows
(41:54):
how to read it.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
That that fact.
Speaker 5 (41:57):
I know, when I saw the list, I'm like, why
is he not on?
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Man?
Speaker 4 (42:03):
I can tell you Jays, Yeah, it's it's hard because
that he started from me this poor year. And uh, defensively,
I mean Odessa is a game that really rings out
that he made probably three plays there that Lee won
(42:24):
us the base name at Odessa. Uh, but he did
that all year long. He's always been as a player.
And Jason had a great year offensively too. You know,
he was kind of that borderline All state type player.
His numbers just the rest of the kids throughout the state. So,
you know, part of my job running the All State
(42:44):
meeting also perspective also as a coach with all the
others of the state. You know, as much as I
have every one of my players recognize their kids around
our area.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
That's not my job. My job is to try to
help guy give some.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
Infort Nation, which is there in the meeting and UH
really do a good job and do our due diligence
to select the kids that are most deserving. And you know,
when you're in this you have such this fond specialness
and you know of each but they just can't. I mean,
(43:21):
it's not how it works. But yeah, Jason is a
great player, Logan easily. Logan easily was an All State
player for for US the year before.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
And he too this year.
Speaker 4 (43:35):
Uh just was an allfer pitcher this year. He is
an All State player because he'll have that forever because
he was the year before. So you know, it's it's
a difficult process, and you know, I think all the
coaches in the state of Dessert realize that. And you know,
(43:56):
unfortunately you're gonna have kids that get left off the
All State team that in a in a in a
different year, may they do make it. But that's just
we try to do the best we can select that team.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
I want to give a shout out to the kids
from the Chillicothe Hornets who won the state championship in
Class four UH that are All State recognized. That is
Noah Ryan Hart, the junior, so he'll be back as
a second team All state pitcher.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
Then you had uh, Howie Donaho sophomore. There you go, uh,
first team in fielder. Uh from that squad. And then
we I'm looking here, I believe there's one more there.
It is Cody Wagers, first team senior pitcher. There you go.
(44:52):
I knew I was mismissing one. I scrolled down. So
shout out to Chillicothe State Championships. We're gonna move to
Class five. We didn't have as much representation here. I
love the fact that we had the pitchers, of course
we talked about in class five. Jordan Martin, Gabe Cevie,
Alex alsop Ethan Lipp was there, if I'm not mistaken, correct, yes,
(45:18):
and Carter Carter Hollingsworth. So you had five all state
pitchers at the All Star Games. So kudos to those
young guys. And look, here's a kid that I hope
some people get some look at. Now we'll see how
that moves through and whatnot. But Colin D. Silvester, the
(45:40):
senior from Warranton High School, watched him play this year.
This kid hit over five hundred on the season, played
defense out of his mind. Make him play after play
after play. He can pitch, he can throw, he can run,
and I think he hit a triple in the All
Star Game as well. I hope he gets some look
(46:06):
at the next level because this is a kid I
think they can really play baseball. Second team All State,
you know, and he's behind some guys first team. Brendan McLoughlin,
who shout out to Brendan McLoughlin is the player of
the Year for the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association
in Class five and well deserved. Had a fantastic run
(46:30):
at the state championships, both in the semifinal and the
state championship game. This man was, This young man was
a one man wrecking crew for Platte County, so kudos
to him. Dayton Dall from Platte County also first team
All State. Trey Joswakowski, who's going to UCM from Vianni
(46:54):
was there in that state champion final four. A. J.
Flam the junior from Saint Dominic who aj as a
junior broke the all time hits record at Saint Dominic
this year. We were there. I was there at that
(47:14):
game that was in the UH District championship against Fort
Zumwalt East, so all next year he's just going to
be adding to that total. So, uh, it's pretty impressive
to break that record in your junior year there at
Saint Dominic. So kudos to aj Flamm and then Braden
Jensen from Marshfield sophomore first team All State. Uh, there's
(47:38):
a lot of underclassmen on this Class five roster here
All state. Brian, I think it looks very good.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
For this group.
Speaker 4 (47:50):
Yeah, I mean they're such they're a really good younger
talent pool. You know, underclassmen make all state all classes.
So I think part of that is kids are playing
at a little bit maybe higher level earlier. They're starting
that earlier, which you know you can, you can. Did
(48:11):
you lose you there? Brian?
Speaker 3 (48:13):
Yeah, that's okay, man, we understand you're dealing with That's
all right, we're gonna get through it. We're having some fun.
Speaker 1 (48:20):
We're not.
Speaker 3 (48:21):
Here's another here's two kids at the top of this.
There's three sophomoores on the pitching Evan Magnuson from Platte
County just as sophomore. That kid was nails at the
state championship. Carter Martin sophomore from Warrington, and then Jason
bad Key from Marshfield, a sophomore. My goodness, Platt County
(48:44):
is gonna be tough for the next couple of years.
They got Bruke Brooks Hall Honorable mention pitcher from Black
County junior. My goodness, and Kent. I don't want to
leave out Levi Hilton, who was nails for Willard for
the last what four years? That young man had a
great career at Willard High School. Kudos to him. So
(49:08):
Class five, I'm I'm really impressive group here, and they
actually beat Class six, didn't they? Dave?
Speaker 5 (49:20):
Yes, they did that game. Oh that was a that
was the four to three game. I remember us talking
about that because it was one to one through like
five and I asked you, I said, how many hits
does Class six have? And I think they only had
five at that time? Yeah, yeah, And so that was
(49:41):
that was probably the best game of the day. There
were some plays in there where you're just like, oh,
he's not gonna score. Oh he is going to score.
Oh no he's not. He's out, the missing third base
almost running into third baseman, having to go back and
tag the left fielder's bottle and the ball and he
decides he's going to score any way and they throw
him out the plate. It was like, oh my, that
(50:03):
was that was a fun, fun uh game by the way,
and Alex Alsop from Saint Dominic was the MVP of
that game, you know, first team pitcher. And then another
player who was selected but could not make it was
Ahmad Muhammad from John Burroughs. He was going to be
(50:24):
out of town, but he was selected. So I'm going
to give him props because he made All State and
he he would have been there if he wasn't going
to be out of town. So yeah, you know, I'm
looking forward to these these juniors and sophomores. I'm looking
forward to seeing them next year in the Senior All
Star Game for sure, all the way through all these classes.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
So yeah, I'm going to give I'm going to give
a little bit to the Class six guys. I would
like to see you guys there. I mean, this is
a cool event, man. We didn't see as many of
the Class six guys there, of course, earlback, Evan abbam It.
I love the daily kids showing up. That was fantastic
(51:06):
we had, you know, and then it was a lot
of kids that you know, very very good baseball players.
Don't get me wrong, but I'd like to see you know, hey,
this is what this is about. Represent your school, represent
your state, and you know, and that's what I said earlier.
(51:28):
I think college coaches can wait a moment, give these
kids an opportunity to celebrate their high school career. I
understand it's important, don't get me wrong, I understand, but
you can hurt yourself stepping out of an elevator.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
Man.
Speaker 3 (51:45):
Come on, they're kids too, and sometimes they do stupid
things that you don't even.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
Know that they're doing.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
Next to the pool, somebody decides to do a cannonball
and hits the swimming board and or the diving board,
and I mean, it happens.
Speaker 5 (52:07):
You still have to go live.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
Yeah, you know. So that's my suggestion. I know it's tough,
and I know there's a lot of people out there
probably disagree with me. That's okay. I'm not worried about that.
Uh let's let's let's celebrate these kids. Let's get him
to the to the All Star Game and have some
fun and enjoy it. Celebrate them and move it down
(52:31):
the road, because hey, you get it once. I'd love
to see Alex Wheeler from Fort Somewalt West. I don't
know if he was there invite you know, I'm not
going to get into that and we'll leave it alone.
But uh, first team All State. Love that Alex Wheeler
had a fantastic season for Fort some Walt West. Uh
nails Camden Lowman Fort some Walt North. Here's another kid
(52:55):
that is on the draft radar. He was invited to
the MLB Combine. So that bodes well for you if
you're invited to the combine? Am I correct there, guys?
Speaker 5 (53:11):
I would think so, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, So I think Cam Lohman is going
to We're gonna probably see him in the MLB not
too much longer. Love to see that. Ashton Nance pitched
well for Blue Spring South. Shout out to Blue Spring
South state champions in Class six, taking down stately Jake Thomas,
(53:39):
second team All State pitcher there Brody Earlbeck, I know
got a utility because coach that's usually kind of that
thought process when he has such big time pitching numbers
and then he's also doing.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
It with the back correct, Yeah, that's correct. I mean
obviously he would be.
Speaker 4 (54:01):
The number of pitching wise, you know, arguably the best
in the state of Missouri. Obviously those debates, but what
he did plays field for and he did at.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
The two hole. Not only did have a great year
on the mound, he obviously a player, and.
Speaker 4 (54:23):
He's gonna go you know the route where I mean,
I assume it's gonna be on the mound. But uh,
he's certainly a high level of the defensive player as well.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
Absolutely, and he did say, you know, this was the
last time he was at the Alstra, I'm gonna get
my swings in. He's gonna be a p o at Iowa.
We talked to him a little bit, great conversation. Uh,
but you know, when you got a point to five
e r A and you're playing at the level of
competition miss Dalley plays at you can pitch.
Speaker 5 (54:57):
Yeah, we didn't. We played daily twice in our conference
and we didn't see him. We saw everybody but him.
He played defense and recked us offensively too, and made
some great plays at first base and then ended in
the outfield. So yeah, they didn't have to use him
against us.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
And not to mention brody Erbeck, as coach alluded to
earlier in the show, is the Missouri High School Baseball
Coaches Association Player of the Year for Class six. So
congratulations to Brody for another accolade. There, he deserves it.
Evan Abbott also from that Staily squad, well deserved first team.
(55:44):
Let's see, let's see, I'm looking for the Staily kids.
I think there was. Yeah, Eastern Felipe the catcher, first
team All State kind of shows you why they were
like what thirty three and four some ridiculous Kurt.
Speaker 5 (56:00):
Like yeah, and Xander Paul Honorable mintioned outfield down there
he's a junior.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
There you go, s Daily, Yep, there it is, so
h Ford Zumwalt West Carter Perry was an Honorable mentioned
uh utility along with Brendan Pyle. First team. A lot
of kids that play both ways. You're gonna you see those.
Tyler Wood, they're from Lee Summit West. Sebastian Norman, the
(56:29):
senior from Glendale. I think he's going to go on
and do some pretty good things. Charlie Wortham here's another
young man, big time bat for De Smet High School.
He's headed to Oh no, sorry, I uh where man
man man. That just popped out of my head because
I had somebody else Brian Gould from Class four from
(56:53):
m I c d S. He's headed to the Military
Academy at West Point, so I want to give him
a shout out. Brian Gould one of the nice young men.
Here's what I love about this character. And I want
to come back to this because last year when m
I c DS made made it to State, he was hurt.
He had his arm in, he hadn't the surgery, but
(57:16):
I thought was fantastic and this is what I loved
about it. He was in there in the dugout, talking, coaching, helping,
his attitude was fantastic. Got a chance to talk to
Brian about that. This young man didn't allow that to
be a detriment to him. You showed the leadership that's
(57:38):
probably why he's going to West Point. Showed that leadership
that's necessary for a team. And I have a lot
of respect for that young man. Big shout out to
Brian Gould. Good luck to you in your next endeavor
there at West Point. Buddy.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
Yes, well, we had the opportunity to play in my
CDs up in Saint Joe and he not only was
it obviously he was a talent. You knew that, but uh,
you know the way he even interacted throughout the game.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Mh like it you know, oh who And I will
say the.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
H I'm not letting that diabet this and the fact
of the matic you spoke about going to the West
Point like he does he like Captain America. I mean
he he is the guy that you know, he does
everything right. He looks like Captain America and he's he's
a strong young man and uh but he you know,
(58:53):
the way he interacted with our kids after the game,
like you know, you obviously heard about him, and our
players were kind of not you know, they're not at all,
but you know they can tell the talent and you know,
anytime you're around other talented kids, like think magnet towards
he's that kind of personality and he's gonna go on
and do great things. You know, his his career in
(59:17):
the Army and playing baseball and all that's obviously he's
got a bigger calling as well.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Absolutely, there's so many kids. We could talk probably forever
about all these kids. If you want to see the
All States selections, uh, mister Hicks, tell them where they
can go and get this.
Speaker 5 (59:38):
Go to mhs b c A dot net and they
go to rank I believe it's not rankings. There's a
tab on there where I think it's just it may
be all state and the academic Hall State is on
there as well as the uh yeah, the baseball side
(01:00:00):
of it as well. So and always this association is
promote the kids and they're not just on the field,
but any classroom as well.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
And don't do what I do because I'm I texted
coach Ash and I said, is it's not up? And
he says, yeah, it is. It's in player recognition. You
go to the all state teams and you have to
scroll down past the all state academic all state guys.
I never get past that. I'm thinking, well, where's that right?
(01:00:29):
Dang it, French. You gotta scroll down and then you'll
see the all state teams. I love that you guys
put the all the academic stuff first. It's the right
way to go. It's and then you go down to
the baseball stuff. You got to scroll down the page.

Brian also on that website. I'm not sure if they're
up yet or not, but the team pictures and the
MVP pictures not just from this past Saturday's All Star Games,
but from years past. I think they go back to
two thousand and ten, two thousand and nine somewhere in
their team pictures. So, and I think the rosters are
(01:01:19):
on there too as well. Now I don't know if
they have them uploaded dead, but they're going to.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
They are up. I'm looking at it right now. I
can see the All State pictures All Stars that was
from my think last year. No, that's this year there,
it is right there. Yep, So they're up. That's twenty
twenty five, you got yep. So the pictures are in place.
Dave just an FYI, oh good, thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
And I know, hey, that's not professional photography there because
you can see some of those guys are not exactly centered.
But I always told them, you know, big ugly guys
in the back and the short, good looking guys in
the front, so some of them were trying to hide.
They had fun with it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
It was a lot of fun. And the information is
there if you want to reach out to these guys. Hey,
if you're if you're a fan of high school baseball,
if you're a parent, whatnot? Where can they follow? You?

Oh gosh, let me look it up. Missouri m A,
m HS b C A And I'm not sure, Brian,
do we have a Facebook page? I know that's that's
(01:02:42):
probably more of a question for Eric Chick or social media.
Speaker 1 (01:02:47):
Yeah, it would probably be Brian Harmon.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
But yeah, there there is the Facebook page, and I
believe we have an Instagram page too.

(01:03:45):
this year I went to the clinic that you guys
held at Lady the Ozarks met a lot of the coaches.
It's where I was introduced to coach Hicks through Francis
hal head coach Tony Perkins, who Coach Perkins has been
a longtime contributor for youth. In fact, guys, you know what,
(01:04:06):
it was coach Perkins who we did our first, very
first high school coach interview. It was Coach Perkins out
at his field at France's Hall. He was very accommodating.
I've known Coach Perkins for quite some time. I got
a chance to his his twins, Justin Ryan played with
(01:04:27):
my son on a team I coached way back when
we were when they were nine years old together. And
I met him then and he's he's always been a
promoter of youth baseball, whether it's elementary, middle or high school.
And I appreciate that. And he's been instrumental and working
(01:04:47):
with us here at Youth Baseball Midwest. So coach Ash,
I met him. Gosh, it's been a few years ago now,
having a coach, Yeah, it has uh and he's been great.
Appreciate him coming on the show. And guys, I appreciate
you allowing us to use Baseball Midwest to be part
(01:05:09):
of this event what we were able to do, and
I hope we can continue this relationship into the future,
grow it, make it a big a big time piece
of what is good about high school baseball and to
look forward to it in the future.
Speaker 5 (01:05:31):
Well thanks for doing that and promoting our not just
our association, but the players. And I want to shout
out to coach Ash for hosting the Senior All Stars
for the last how many every years when we got
run out of a place for didn't get run out
but last minute, go Jash like come out of and
(01:05:51):
it's yours. I wanted as long as you can do it.
He does a fantastic job of hosting that he has
concession stands up with, you know, usually as a fundraiser
not just for his program but for other programs in
the school. So he loved coming there. Hopefully we can
continue to go there in the foreseeable future and hopefully
(01:06:15):
we continue with you mister French on coming broadcasting game.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
Spores absolutely coaching It was a tough one too, because
that rain on Saturday was brutal.
Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
Man, you know, that was what was.
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
That's my biggest fear always rain. Well it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
It wasn't so much because it really hampered the play
on the field or a thing like that. It's just
there's a lot of construction around the school and it
was pushing all that mud down there and it just
created so much, uh, you know, difficulties in that respect.
It just it was it was just. But once once
we got to to Saturday, it was beautiful. We played
(01:07:03):
baseball and I know it's not what you know, what's
what's that got through? Everything was good and it is
a great venue. Folks, if you have been to Ashlar,
Missouri at Southern Boone High School, it is a great venue. Coach,
we enjoyed a lot.
Speaker 5 (01:07:18):
And go eat at Woodies.
Speaker 4 (01:07:19):
Well say that we're actually this next summer we're actually
redoing there.
Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
We're looking at adding.
Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
Concessions and bathrooms and general experience with concrete and all
the gravel all of the sudden gets taken out.
Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
So it should be a better experience, uh, in the future.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
So but again I appreciate mhsp Sir, allow me to
to the post that and we'll continue to do it
as long as long as they want want me to
do it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
So I love it. Gentlemen. I appreciate you guys taking
the time out of your day to come on the show.
