In today’s digital age, it’s easy to let social media, comparisons, and material desires set the tone for our days. As Emily Massey notes in our daily prayer and devotion, we can operate with “self glasses”—seeing through lenses of envy and dissatisfaction instead of through the eyes of Christ.
But Scripture points us to a better way. Because we are raised with Christ, Paul tells us to seek heavenly things, not earthly. When we fix our minds on eternal truth, we begin to resist idols of envy, comparison, and worldly ambition.
This discipline doesn’t deny our earthly life. Rather, it reorders our spiritual vision. God becomes our anchor, not our circumstances. Our contentment shifts from what we see to who we belong to. And we learn to celebrate others’ blessings instead of resenting them.
Today's Bible Reading:
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
— Colossians 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Key Takeaways
Comparison and covetousness can become spiritual idols when we prioritize them over God.
Setting the mind on heavenly realities changes how we interpret earthly life.
Our identity in Christ frees us from needing external validation or accumulation.
A heavenly perspective shapes gratitude, humility, and love toward others.
Let’s Pray Together
Heavenly Father, help me to remove the “self glasses” and see life through Your lens. Cleanse my heart of comparison and envy. Fix my eyes on You and Your eternal promises. Teach me to celebrate others and rest in Your sufficiency. May my life reflect heaven’s values now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
