(00:00):
You were now listening to the podcastfor Geeks and the Stuff they Love,
where each week we'll talk about everythingfrom anime to movies, games and prop
collecting, but the people who createand love it. I'm Jeremy, I'm
Vince, I'm James, and Vinceis your geekis. It's been kind of
hard because to get together because AI think both you and I have been

(00:22):
sick off and on. Then Jamesis sick today. He might join at
some point, I don't know,And so there's that We've been traveling at
things. It'speaking in a sickness.So I did a live stream this last
week to fill in for our podcastbasically, or try to. And on
that day when the day finally came, because I advertised an advance for people

(00:44):
to be able to watch, andthen I had one hundred and two degree
temperature and like James, the stomachthing a bunch of stuff. I just
felt awful. I steal home fromwork. But then I'm like, I
gotta do this thing now. HitAnd my whole plan was too. I
was going to build something and thensee if people could guess what it was.

(01:07):
And so for that very reason, actually I have that that very build,
which I'll let play in the backgroundwhile we're while we're doing this,
so if people recognize this, let'ssee if men's can figure out what it
is too as it's going on.It will use it the full time of
our of our conversation. But atthe same time, if you can guess

(01:29):
what it is along the way, comment be with the first one to comment
in the comments section what you thinkit is? But any rate, But
yeah, I was so sick Ibroke out this. It's you know,
you have these kids that are it'snot lego, it's like megablock type of
blocks, you know, Chinese Chineseblocks and uh and they come in kids,

(01:49):
and I bought a couple of thembecause they were related to that.
I've got another one that I'm probablygonna do that have got actually right here
eventually of something I actually wanted up. I like a real one six skill
version of but the Iron Giant,No, I do have. I have
multiple of those though. Boy,that's the project I got to finish eventually.

(02:12):
But on the flip side. Butbut yeah, any rate, So
I try to make this thing andwhen you take it out, it has
separate bags and each bag is numberedand littered, so like if you were
putting this together once you assume thatthat means like you start with bag one
A and then you go to bagno. You're apparently just supposed to open

(02:32):
them all up. And then andthe laym out says, I'm trying to
do it. I'm trying to doit with bag one A and I'm sweating
because I had a fever. I'mtrying to carry on a conversation with people
that are you know, in thelive chat with me and uh and it
just I give up. Actually midthis this is live streams. What kind
of a horrible live stream? It'slike, yeah, I put together like

(02:54):
three pieces and I was like yeah, dot and then and it's also the
time just try to carry out aconversation with people that wasn't very pretty.
It was it was pretty bad.I don't know, but then what it
would have looked like if I ifI would have kept on building and stuff.
But I want to talk to youabout like I mean, because we

(03:15):
haven't talked since you guys went onthe on the trip. I went on
a couple of trips. I feellike I've talked about them more than I
want to because I do have. What I'm really spending all my time on
right now is editing my Philadelphia andthe and the New Vegas trips so they
can come out over the next coupleof weeks and first for Christmas and stuff.

(03:36):
Yeah, and and they are.I also like when I'm editing and
I actually feel excited about what I'mseeing and as I'm editing it, when
I when I'm entertained by it,two, that's usually good sign. And
so I'm really looking forward to thosecoming out. But but at the same
time, like you guys, andI don't know how much you want to
release either, because you do havesome video and and things, but I
mean like much anymore much? Okay, you know, as far as you

(04:01):
guys did a pub the pub crawlwell ended the world. I could kick.
I could kick that. So itwas a very hectic week. Privately,
there was a lot of stuff happeningand moving parts. It's so much
that I had people on the phonewhile I was sitting standing in the train

(04:23):
going from London Airport to like thisweird village change decided to to end up
with with a very shady station attendant. So so basically it was full of
police and we were going to geta sausage roll and Jays was just catchually

(04:45):
saying, hey, what's going on, and She's just I'm not telling I'm
not a snitch. They can dowhatever they want, but I'm not telling
you what's going on. So apparentlythis was one of the grittier areas of
London where like there was active drugdeals and like Blackpool or something. I
no, no, it did thisthis appairly worse. So we related,
we got the we got the worststation, so we did. We had

(05:06):
to sit outside wait for Adam toshow up. So I'll read write it
back. So initially, yeah,we got asked to do this prop story
in London and we yeah, wehad to plan the stuff. So we
we set up a small group,uh and you, James and I we
brainstormed about how we're going to approachthis and that I thought, well would

(05:26):
be altfhais. We had like someonenative having a driver, having people involved.
My my best friend Adams, thesoundboll sudden us out loud say something
again, Hello, hello, shootsnew Oh now now yeah now I think
we're good, okay, keep goingall right echo. Yeah. So so

(05:54):
my friend Adam yeah, I've knownhim for years. Uh and he lives
up north and Wigan. Uh.And since it was such a special opportunity
and he and I are big StarWars fans, I thought I might go
to him into being a designated driver. And he had to have an electrical
car and he was also a bitof a he has lots of He says,

(06:15):
there's some gear regarding camera as andequipment. But he was the one
who basically saved the whole shoot becauseI just brought to go pro. James
brought his phone and anim had liketripoles and like DSLR camera as, like
multiple cameras. Then we could usea setup and everything was really great,
great quality stuff, which was justappenstance, to be honest. But so

(06:39):
yeah, Adam, he contacted mesaid he was okay with it, but
he just had a child like tendays ago, so he had to consult
with his wife if it was okay, and his wife just said to go
out of the house, you desertit and you need to time off.
And also this is the one ina lifetime opportunity, so Adam, and
they say that, they say that, but stuff goes back. Well,

(07:02):
yeah, this was at least thiswas at least he once a lifetime experience
because well we we managed to gethim Airbnb in the middle between the airport
and the prop store and everything wasokay. But yeah, I went push,
came to shove. Uh just whatjust the this is me talking the

(07:25):
footage that we have together. Soit said the show Adams who got stuck
in Trustic for like six hours.Wow. There were three accidents on the
route from him up north to Londonand he basically went across country like from
the top to the bottom, justto visit prop store for us. So
he was late and James was reallyearly. So Jays left at five am

(07:47):
or something and then arrived at atseven or six am in England. Uh
so he was off from the airportdoing some fun stuff and he met some
people who drove him around, somerandom people who decided to drive him around
the countryside and went shooting and stufflike yeah shooting range. Yeah. Yeah.

(08:09):
So so I was there in Londonand just getting messages from from Adam
and he was stuck in traffic, but it's from James. Then he just
went off to some weird places inthe middle of nowhere and I just arrived
there with my with everything, soand I was in the middle of some
private stuff, some handling, somesome difficult stuff with work, with contracts,

(08:31):
negotiations and lawyers and all that kindof stuff. Although all this was
happening, So even at the airport, I was calling people. I was
in the bus, I was callingpeople in the shuttleers, calling people in
the train. I was calling peopleand having stuff done. So it's very
very stressful for me, and thenalso for the guys because they had like
delays and everything. And I thinkJames got apart from being so very early

(08:54):
and and all that gus, Imean, he got a better deal to
be at shoot range. So wehad to catch up with traffic. We
had to make sure that we would, you know, go verge all three
of us somewhere in the in theEnglish London countryside to excite to do to
use the the I don't even knowwhat the name is of the station,

(09:16):
but we used the train station toget there. So James was there was
just heading there. I got thereby drain and then Adam picked us up
with his car and then we droveto the air VnB to to have some
yeah, some respite because we woulddo the prop store on the second day,
which was initially we would do iton the day of arrival. But

(09:37):
thankfully, because of all the troublethat we had, it was good that
we did it on the second daybecause we had the whole We needed the
whole day to actually go there.Yeah, and so we spent a lot
of time yeah, commuting to work, talking destination. It was good fun.
So I haven't seen I hadn't seenAdam for ages like before COVID.

(10:00):
Uh. He get married during COVIDand we couldn't sit it because of all
the restrictions for example, so Ibrotching gifts for him, uh to to
to to celebrate that he got married, and also a gift for his newborn
child. Then. So yeah,me and James met up for the first
time in the face to face andit was wasn't awkward at all. We

(10:20):
just you know, we were justtalking like we are right now and just
having fun and discussing things and uhyeah, me, Adam and James really
clicked. It was like three friendswho just met. But yeah, just
no, yeah, yeah, notnothing nothing in between us that prevent us
from having fun and doing cool stuff. So us three much ket Tears,

(10:43):
who were very positively minded, sayingthat we're going to do a pub pro
because the airbnb happened to be inthe town where The World's End was shot,
like all the pubs that were inthe movie with signing peg and Nick
Frost is in thee Yeah, sothat they all those pubs were in there.

(11:05):
So we thought, all, we'regoing to go on the pop walk
crawl. We're going to do alleleven of them or something. But us
being very spry and useful Guyce andme every having a very very painful about
of gout in my in my inmy toe, Adam said well, I
want to drink while we're doing thepop crowl so we'll get Not'm going to

(11:26):
take the car, We'll just walkthere. It was a fifteen minute look
and I was just eavy and buffying. Yeah the right way, I guess.
I mean that is that is morein tune with the movie. Well
they had the car, Oh,I didn't remember that. I did just
walked in each place. Yeah.I tantually watched the watch the movie before

(11:46):
I went there so I could getcused from from did you see any aliens
or time warping? Stuff happening storywe did. Yeah, but that sort
of thing was we were halfway there, which just decided to get an uber
to one of the one of thepubs. And the funny thing is,

(12:07):
like in the movie the pucks wereall being bought up by a franchise,
so they all look to say realityback then when the movie was made,
it wasn't I believe. So weget there. It was bought by a
franchise, the same one. Itwas like the same food, same Oh
that's true with most pubs. It'sa it's the same same so food and

(12:28):
stuff. Yeah, same man, same beers, that kind of stuff.
So if you are if you arein one franchise, you only have these
kind of beers. Yeah, thankfully, yeah, most of them. So
we thought, okay, we're gonnado all of them. And we're like,
yeah, we have we have timeto spare everything, and we're gonna
do that. Basically, we enteredthere, we had our food, and
we were we were necker. Wefirst bub in first period. I was

(12:52):
already hipstic because I hadn't eaten thatmuch that day and I don't drink alcohol
normally. It was a celebratory beer, but I forgot that the pike is
like this big glass. Yeah, yeah, that's big. So I was
already getting a bit giddy and thenthey were like, yeah, I was
gonna go to the second pump andthey were like where is it? And
then it was like it's another fifteenminute walk. I don't know, we're

(13:15):
gonna I'll pay for the uber,I don't care if we want to go
there, and the're fine. Soit desserved there and that was the pubb
It actually looked like it was inthe movie. I think they shot some
some parts of it, and wedid some shots of the yeah, some
video shots and everything and outside. But after that, it was like ten
A at ten pm and we weretired because we were traveling all day.

(13:37):
And it basically went back to theAirbnb and just slept because we were so
tired. And the thing was thatwe I warned everybody, did I snore?
And all the guys were like, god, I know our store as
well, and it's okay, it'sfine. Now we were just snoring,
guys, That's okay. But thenext day it was like, Evince,
I didn't know that you could makethese bones shatter. So the left I

(14:07):
except pretty well, but the restof the yeah, yeah, yeah,
it was. It was a funairb me. I mean, we met,
we wet the owners, and wehad a We had a three bed
bedroom that we could just pop in, uh sleep. It was really cheap
also, so yeah, I meanit was excellent. Was in the middle,
so we would spend like, uh, it was our halfway points.

(14:28):
So if we were going to theairport, if we're going to prop store,
we had some sort of safe havenin between where we could just say
your rest store or upload stuff orwhatever for both for both days. So
the next day we went to propstore. It was really cool. We
had signed n the A for severalthings we did. Interesting didn't really read

(14:50):
it and we could, but thewhole thing was like like they don't want
to talk about so that you sawon the off side either of the stuff
he didn't pull or whether the whywhy would they have? I didn't read
it, but but I think mainlyit's about the location and you know what
what is there like basically, yeah, I mean we thought it was a

(15:13):
given that we're not supposed to talkwhatever whatever, and and and we also
didn't ask any any difficult questions orwhatever. So there's a lot of behind
the scenes footage that that I couldshare with you maybe, which is interesting
just for archyple's sake. That's youknow, leaving the camera on and chatting
while I was setting stuff up.Sure, but uh yeah, there were

(15:35):
some there were some fun things, like I think I can say, but
there are some props for example, that are really cool but not so cool
if you have been kind of unvoluntarilytaking custody of and there are not not
to do that, not the propsthat that you could easily move like they
had a they had a van outthere and that was used in the in

(15:56):
the music video of a band andit was really the cool van. But
yeah, they can't get rid ofit for the love of It's. It's
just it's it's the paper. Wise, it is difficult to get a car
out of England, right, It'sit's physically difficult to get it out of
there. Uh it's it's not thatpopular over over over band to get with

(16:18):
it because it was just like aclip like one off kind of thing.
But but they do have it.So it's like if you wanted you can,
you can take three because we reallydon't want that anymore. Everybody's morning
about it. I had to moveon that one. He could was interested,
but that kind of stuff. Verynice people, a lot more people

(16:45):
involved than I thought there would be. But yeah, they couldn't. Just
so everybody knows. I mean, originally the original day that we were going
to do it was the day thatyou guys were arriving. It was only
gonna be like an hour or twoon the second day when they they said,
well, why don't you come fromYeah, like wow, I mean

(17:07):
that's the majority of the morning. So yeah, that's great. Yeah,
and and and there there was thisYeah, I mean there is some footage
and some someone's double and I maybemay have you know, in the whole
bin of footage that we have, may have dropped the conversation or two,
but all the all the stuff thatwe discussed at least, Yeah, it
is visible in the in the videosspeaking it is what you figured that I

(17:30):
was going to ask you, whatis it. It's twenty five. It
is Johnny five. That's pretty good. Yeah, that's cool. But but
yeah, I mean the stuff thatwe saw and I don't know if it's
we could talk about it, butthere the fact I think we touched about
one million euros work of stuff thatday. Yeah, yeah, and and

(17:51):
and I mean yeah, you haveto wear the gloves of course to make
sure and there is you know, props that are taking into custine have to
be you have to be very gaffulwith uh and the people approached to do
due diligence, you know, makingsure everything's correct well for those of you
that can't see and stuff. Honestly, we're so we're not showing any of
the props right now, but uh, of course we've posted now three videos

(18:17):
of of the props. You guysgot to go and check out. My
favorite one was the part with theBatman col Uh, we're cute. There's
there's it's funny because now and thenI'll edit out like maybe awkward pause or
something that's funny sometimes to smooth itout and stuff. I do that with
my with my videos all the time. But what was funny about that one

(18:38):
is like there's this there's this smallpause where after you guys had spoken and
and you kind of just you kindof looked at both size and like it
came down. I'm just gonna touchit, yeah, real slow touch and
all the tough I know you guysplanted in the VADs. But on the
flip side, if I didn't knowthat, Oh well, it looks like
you just were like, yeah,I'm gonna just touch this. No,

(19:00):
that wasn't That wasn't plan at all. Oh what No, Like he didn't
given in permission to do that inevents, Oh yeah, okay, I'm
just gonna touch this. Yeah, yeah, that was hilarious. Hard No,
that was that wasn't planned at all. We did think about doing that

(19:22):
to to to kind of prank you, and we would fake fake a proper
before we would fight. Some dothat and after tell us that this is
from a movie, very very expensive, we would drop it and we just
keep dropping it and breaking. Jamesdropped the shield. Did he really do
that or no? No, no, no, we said we said we
dropped that in it. I don'tthink he did. But if it did,

(19:44):
I think the floor would suffer morethan a shield because that thing,
Yeah, it was it was prettyreal estate and it's it's it's basically the
prop you want to have because it'sit's heavy as the shield Captain America would
feel and it was like there wasmore than moving in and like like solid
stuff. There was a hero. All the minium is as yeah yeah,

(20:07):
yeah, yeah, but no,that was heavy. But but it wasn't
planned at all. I mean nothingwas planned. We didn't really discuss anything
before. It was very advocd verya great job, great job of interviewing.
The video is beautiful. Everything wasdone very well. It just happenstance.
I think I had to. Ihad to pay a lot of farmer
points because of all the stress andall the stuff happening around it. That

(20:32):
that the actual file products you know, got got blessed in a good way.
Yeah. But also the fact thatwe did we did discuss like okay,
maybe we can do this. Adamwas a real help because he had
to be. Is a real goodframing eye. He knew how to the
phrase stuff really well. Yeah, the one, I mean, we haven't

(20:56):
released a video on it yet,but I know so. One of the
props you guys saw was the Ironmanhelmet. And then when James recently put
in to buy the Iron Man,the homet you can there's a homet you
can buy right now that has thevoice commands you can say to it.

(21:17):
It opens up either the the faceopens up or when you say open the
suit I think it is. Thenthe back like opens and you can take
it off and stuff, and I'manxious to see his because I want to,
Oh, there he is. Thereis Johnny five. So Johnny five
was the was the thing I wasbuilding Johnny five from from a short circuit,

(21:40):
which has its its own kind ofhistory to it. These days,
people get all wrapped up and thatthere is a little thing. I think
we've been talked about on this podcastbefore about the fact, you know,
yeah, it's true the actor, but the guy that was supposedly Indian it
was not. But at the sametime yeah, but at the same time
it was. I wanted one ofthose. I still do. I wanted

(22:03):
Johnny five, a good size onelike the one that they had in the
second movie. At the very beginningof the second movie, they have all
these fives that were yeah, andthey were remote control and parently that was
all faked, which I didn't knowuntil until an Adam Savage thing that they
covered recently. But there is agroup that builds them. In fact that
you saw it too, didn't you. I think it was you that I
also noticed it where they they builda little minute about the same size of

(22:27):
these Johnny fives, including of eachof the other versions of you know,
seven and nine and stuff that lookedlike Larry Moan curly and stuff. But
yeah, I still want one ofthose so bad big. But at the
same time, is there any propsthere when you were there, if you
could have if you could have pickedone prop of everything you saw, including
stuff that you did, they getto actually talk about stuff that was just

(22:49):
in the background. Is there onething that you were really wanting, something
you would have taken? Uh,well, well, the the the the
Ethne Daniel's the script and Star warshing. Oh yeah, with the with Star
Killer and all the original loops andhad annotations in it too. Took that
money left deliberately left out instead. But then yeah, when we saw the

(23:10):
pictures there were irritations. Yeah, but the other one said like like the
little posts and everything in there. It was with more than everything, But
yeah, I know. I toldI asked them like, do you have
some unsellables like that you too smallor to to TVs to sell or not
worth it, and then basically saidwe sell everything. And the fun part

(23:33):
was also like if you go inthe warehouse, like sometimes there is a
uh it's difficult to figure out whetheror not it's a prop or if it's
something from the office, the actualoffice that they work in. It.
So there was this this I don'tknow which movie it was, but it
was in one of the cases behindus while we were in the shoot.
There was this very realistic looking sandwichthat is totally fake, made out of

(23:57):
foam and and very well made, and so left it on their desk and
everybody lost it because they thought, you know, the mist places or yeah,
people mistook it for lunch from ofsomeone and just didn't clotch over it
because it was just Allow's death. And and apparently I think I actually say
it because they told us as well. But apparently the coffee machine used in

(24:19):
the movie promes you it's just it'sactually become the office copee machine, because
that's awesome because it got misplaced forpeople thought it wasn't a coffee machine.
Could have just dded up. Itwas a proper initially, I believe.
So so that's fine. Now officiallyit's the coffee the office golf that's free.

(24:40):
That's free me. But yeah,I mean imagine like there was there
was there was some some tea cupsand a and a termos can there and
I'm like, if it's a propersjust right now, I don't know what
what is it? But is real? Or is the cake? Yeah?
Accedently they compared with like that. It's like is it real or isn't the
proper But I don't know. Ihave to check the that picked the redistry.

(25:02):
But they do edual stuff very well. But yeah, the stuff that
was there like it they have likesome service or some guy who makes custom
stance with dext on it. Andit is not a luxury because it's necessity
to actually figure out when when you'reselling something or whatever that you could tell
instantly, okay, this is thesuit from that movie worn by x y

(25:23):
Z because uh, there's an oldwarehouse full of those suits. Uh,
so they all begin to look alike. Yeah, and then the fun thing
it's seeing those props up close. You see how jaking these things are and
then how made for not HD theyare like for for g R T,
like the Tron helmet, they're officialThron helmet or original. There was just

(25:48):
some some I say, uh,syrofoam and someone just grabbed a sharpie and
was that hand throw on those lineson it, and in the movie it
looks like it was like Super Google'swas overexposed. Yeah, Dan has one,
I I gotta see. So hedid some close ups to some stuff
because he has the he has thehelmet, and he has the disc and

(26:10):
both of those looked yeah, reallybad. Yeah yeah, but then again,
I guess, I mean they youknow, they pitched up the you
know, the ambience and stuff tomake of them look glowy. So I
guess they just had to have theright form. But but yeah, well
even the harbordboard the guys looked at, I mean, the phone was starting
to come across part and stuff likethat. I mean, like these aren't
made to be long term props, you know, so most of them were.

(26:33):
And also only recently it's become invokesor decay to to to sell it
collecting. Uh yeah, and alsowhish we never touch touched up on.
But something you have to keep inmind, of course, because I have
bought something that that may or maynot that big great market. But like
the Ghostbuster's case, like the guysays, hey, I bought a ware

(26:53):
house full of stuff from Amazon, right, and apparently that what that warehouse
that's supposed to be cleared and andstuff had to be thrown away but was
sold instead, you know, andand with those props, like I do
know Prop Store because I think inone of the interviews with Adam Savage or
something that they did mention like wewant providence, we want to know where
it came from, we want toknow that. They told me that too.

(27:17):
Yeah yeah, Chris Tony that Imean, Harry Chuck, I mean
yeah, yeah. But but youknow, it was it was great.
It was great and was very surrealbecause because basically everything was was worth like
one year's worth of salary. Wellyour study, yeah yeah. And the
cool thing was I went, Ihad a very vichy vichy week then so

(27:38):
on well yeah, well so inthe middle of the week we went to
prop Store, and the weekend afterthat, I had to go to Brussels,
UH to sign up with Richetine Andersonmcguiver and h Marty's mom so to
say. And yes, it wasreally cool, but the very exhaustive.

(28:00):
But I actually got someone who wasmaking that's the other who was making replicas
of lightsabers and the Belt's lightsaber asa report. Oh really, And so
I went to the guy with thepicture from pop store and say, hey,
guy, I touched the actual prope, Yeah it can check yours and
I said, wow, this thisreally feels the same weight and looks the

(28:22):
same. Yours has more detail thanthe actual prop. And he was very
very happy to hear that it wasfutial. You can make it into like
a put a sheet in it,or oh yeah, so it actually lights
up and yeah, yeah, soit than the actual prop, and he
was They thought it was really cool. Gave me his business card. But
that was a very surreal experience tojust, you know, in the same

(28:42):
week, touch the prop and thentouch a very well yeah, same thing.
Well something something that kind of tiedus together at the same time as
well. You guys were in I'mtrying to think of if we get a
crossover. Was I in Vegas atthe same time you guys, Well,
same week you guys went same toprop store. I was in in Vegas.

(29:03):
And while I was in Vegas,so prop store and they're listing one
