Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening enjoyment John London as Johnny Deller for you.
Frank Meadows listening Newport, California was killed last night. How
long let's take you plane a couple, Lieutenant Suliman, Newport Police.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
When you get that, Johnny, yeah, trip yeah, try right now.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
I'd like to take a few minutes of your time
to pass on a thought which incidentally concerns time. According
to the Bible, to everything, there is a season and
a time to every purpose under the heaven. We all
agree on that, I'm sure, And we'll also agree that
the regulation of time also depends on the season.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
For example, did it ever occur to you who.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Decided where are four time zones in America should be?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Exactly?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Well, back maybe seventy five years ago, there were about
one hundred and fifty different time zones, which were set
up according to the whim of the local inhabitants. Most
of the time was called sun time, and there could
be fifteen minutes difference between the clocks of two towns
only ten miles apart. So to get rid of the confusion,
(01:23):
the Interstate Commerce Commission was established. It divided the United
States into four standard time zones, so that railroads, planes, buses.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
And the mail could run on schedule.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Of course, if the city wants to go on daylight
saving time during the summer, that's a decision which is
made locally. The standard time remains the same everywhere else,
but setting the nation's clocks isn't the only job of
the Interstate Commerce Commission, however. It also makes rules and
regulations for the various means of transportation which go from
(01:57):
one state to another. Sees that railroads, truck lines, barges
and boats operate safely, charge reasonable rates, and give good,
dependable service. It also protects trucks and bus drivers from
working such long hours that they might fall asleep while
they're driving. The Commission also demands that trains, engines, and machines.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Have safety and stop devices.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
It is in itself a safety device to assure every
one of us freedom from danger as we travel about
Our company. Expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dallner
(02:47):
to Home Office, Universal Bonding and Indemnity Company, Hartford Connecticuts.
The following is an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
The Barton Baker matterage.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
We got out of one one hundred and ninety five
dollars and eighty cents plane fair and incidentals from Hartford
to Los Angeles. I arrived at International Airport at eleven
the morning of the twenty six and rented a car there.
An hour later, I was pulling into Newport, a sea
town not far down the coast. At the police station,
I met Lieutenant Solomon and we discussed the case. Frank
(03:21):
Mental ran a boat chartering service.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Did you know him? Yeah, excuse me.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Open a window. Sure he has been hot the last
couple of days, like a cold drink or something. No, no, thanks, Well,
we got a report on the shots when we got there.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Frank was dead shot three times. He had a gun been.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Fired twice, obviously shot it out with somebody, and he
suspects his partner, Dave.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Geller, owned the boat with Charlie. What makes you think
Yeller did it?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
No, I don't know for sure, but he's missing, disappeared,
nothing else. It's the only thing we've got to go on.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Any reason why Geller would kill metals None we know.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I know David Well, I did Frank. They always seem
to get along. Never heard of any arguments. But you
know how those things are a couple of guys get
along fine for years, and then some little things. Yeah,
might be a woman, just a woman or some particular woman.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Frank has a wife in Geller. No he's not married.
What's Missus Meadows like? Well, you got to talk to
her anyway, don't you.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, then you can see for yourself.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I'd say she was a kind that might cause a lot.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Of trouble under the right circumstances. But that's only a
person's observation. You might not think so at all. He's
the address. Well, thanks, I'll let you know do that.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Ten minutes later, I was pulling up to a pleasant.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Little house to face the bay. Missus Meadows met me
at the front door. I don't generally make snap judgments,
but at first sight I was inclined to.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Go along with Lieutenant.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Missus Meadows was very attractive, tan blonde, and would have
been in morning, but I doubted it, even though her
tight bathing suit was black. I introduced myself and she
showed me into the living room.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Down it's to door. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
You have to forgive me. I've been getting some sun.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Oh, I don't mind.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I'd like to live in a bathing suit during the summer.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Surprised the beach isn't more crowded.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Heal from the insurance company.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
That's right, I was sent out to investigate your husband's death.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
I'll be glad to help any way I can.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I'd appreciate it. Come up with my husband insured for
don't you know?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
I have no idea and we had insurance.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
I never knew how.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Much twenty five thousand. That much should buy you a
lot of sun?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
When will I get it?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Well?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
In a case like this, a murder has to be
a complete investigation, and it's generally considered proper to bury
the deceased before issuing a check.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Uh. By the way, when is the funeral?
Speaker 3 (06:20):
It was this morning at eight o'clock.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
What do they do? Dump 'em off a surfboard.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
I don't think I like having a dollar.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Oh, I'm just being a little sadistic. I always get
that way when I see someone so broken up.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Would it be better if I stayed in the house
for a week and wore a black veal?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (06:38):
No, no, but uh, little emotions would seem more natural.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Would it help if I cried help?
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Who mister dollar? My husband's did anything? I might do
wouldn't bring him back If you don't approve, I'm.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Afraid that's just too bad.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Who do you think killed your husband?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
The police suspect this part.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Uh, it's it's possible Dave's missing.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Can you think of any reason why Day would kill
your husband? Mm.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
They didn't get along too well.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Lieutenant Solomon says, they got along just fire, and I
see they didn't.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I think I know more about it than Lieutenant Solomon.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Okay, suppose you tell me why they didn't get along.
They just didn't. They disagreed a.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Lot over anything specific, MM, not particularly the.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Boats wings in general. They'd known each other for years,
been partners for nearly ten Friendship's worth him Sometimes.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Before they left on the trip, they had an argument
about what Frank didn't tell me. Just came home and
said he'd had a fight with Dave.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
The next morning they left. Following morning.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
When they returned, Lieutenant Solomon called me and said, Frank, hat.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Didn't kill Where did they go down the coast after
Yellow two?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Who charted the boat? No One?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
They went alone?
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Missus Meadows. Yeah, up to hear from Dave. Get in
touch with the police will you was going on four
o'clock when I left Missus Meadows standing in the doorway
and her black bathing suit. I drove to a motel
on the bay and was shown to my room, where
(08:18):
I called Lieutenant Solomon.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I wanted to take a look at the boat.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
You find it a Colson's landing that jabe. Missus Meadows
says her husband and Geller went fishing for yellowtail.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, they catch any they did, they didn't bring them back.
No fish on the boat. Maybe they didn't really go fishing.
Is that any ideas? No, not a one, just to guess.
Trying to create a motive.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
What do you think of Missus Meadows? Oh, very attractive,
but not a good enough motive. I didn't say that.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
I was just trying to come up with a better one.
If you do, let me know.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
And for meeting Missus Meadows it won't be easy you
having her watch steam Geller tries a contactor, we'll.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Know about it. Hey, where's a good place to eat
you like seafood? Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
By the ton by the restaurant right next to your motel,
Rio Marina. Steam clams are great, Lieutenant, you have just
created a glut expenser gun item two six dollars and
fifty cents for a seafood dinner, while the bucket of
clams suggested. I drove to Carlson's Landing, where I located
(09:30):
the J Bell, meadows and Geller's trim little fishing boat.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
A full moon was.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Out over the Pacific, and the j Bell rocked.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Gently with the motion of the side.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
The landing was deserted, except for a big gray cat
that scurried onto one of the other boats as I
walked past. I stood looking at the j Bell for
a minute, listening to the sounds of the ocean. Then
I climbed aboard. The hatch leading below to the cabin
was unlocked, so I opened it, went down the short
ladder the moonlight it sifted into the starboard porthole. For
(10:03):
the rest of the cabin was in pitch darkness. I
fell around for some kind of life.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Stay right where you are, right, go move. I got
a gun. Okay, I can see you. If you move
a finger, I'll kit you. Okay, okay, I'm not moving. Well,
what happened? Do we stay here all night? No? I'm
better take a look at you. I don't want to
make a mistake. Yeah, I think that's a good IDEA.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Light switches right behind you to your left, but keep
facing me.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Just reach back. Thought you thought? So what banker sent you? Baker?
You're not a cop. I know the cops in town.
You must be Dave Giller. You know I'm Geller. Look,
my name is Dollar. I'm an insurance investigator. Sure, I'll
show your micro dentils.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Keep your hands at your side. I'm telling you the truth.
I work for the Universal Bonding and Indemnity. Your ex
apartment was insured with it.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Turn around, put your hands over your head. Look, I'm
telling you'll look. I'm not kidding, mister.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Okay, Now put them out in the front and lean
on the bulkhead.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
My wallet's on the inside left coat pocket.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Insurance investigators always carry guns.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Well, most of them take them off when they go
to bed. That's very funny. I'm glad you liked them.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
You'll find the permit for the gun in the wallet,
and the wallet is still in my end. You're satisfied,
turn around, but keep your hands up. You saw the identification.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Okay, sir, an.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Insurance investigator still doesn't help me. Just what kind of
help were you expecting?
Speaker 2 (11:41):
None. I mean, now I got to do something with you.
Can't let you go back to the police and tell
them you found me.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
They'll mard you sooner or later. They want you for
a murder. Yeah, I know, Why did you kill them?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I didn't. What are you hiding for? That's none of
your business? All right, now we're back to me. What happened.
We'll just have to stick around for sure. Hold it
about the matter.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Somebody's coming turn up, and you just stay where you
are and don't make a shock. Probably the police it
is you're gonna take me out of here. And for
a guy who's in a SHOT's right outside the folk Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
I thought that was too heavy for the right. Listen,
you can only say it once something happens to me.
Get to bring his garage.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Understand Berney's garage the coboard.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
What do I do with Bernie's garage? I don't know
why I'm trusting you, but I gotta trust Somebody.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Tell Bernie I sent you, ask him for the tool kick,
for the tool kid, and I didn't kill fight For god,
I'm going upside. He went up the ladder and out
on back, holding his gun in front of him.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
I thought about trying.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
To stop him, but he moved too fast to be
He had my gun sucking his belt.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
I was going up the.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Ladder when the shooting started, and being a practical man,
I stopped halfway up and duck. After a moment, I
looked up to the hatch and they're standing in the moonlight.
Was a tall, thin man dressed in a white suit.
He was holding a gun pointed right at my head. Well,
good evening, who got killed?
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Your friend?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Miss together?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
And now it looks like your mister.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Dollar, Johnny Dollar, how do you do?
Speaker 2 (13:33):
My name is Baker, Barton W. Baker.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Do you know many great men have attained the highest
office in our land? The presidency of the United States?
Can you guess the name of this man? He was
descended from an English family which landed in Plymouth in
sixteen twenty four, and was a native of Ohio. In
the late eighteen eighties, he was a newspaper editor in
that state, and as Senator in nineteen hundred, he opposed
(14:16):
federal control of food and fuel. As president, he supported
prohibition and back the Nineteenth Amendment, which gave women the
voting privilege. His administration also saw the establishment of the
national budget system. If you don't have his name by now,
here's another clue. During his presidency, the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Who was it? Warren G.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Harding, twenty ninth President of the United States. His life
is part of your American heritage. And now, with our
star John Lund, we bring you the second act of
your truly Johnny Dollar. The tall, thin man in the
(15:12):
white suit who called himself Baker and came down the
ladder into the cabin. He flipped down the lights again
and stood facing me, a half smile twisted on his lips.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
He said nothing.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
After a moment, another man appeared at the hatch.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
And called down to the white suit. He's dead. What'll
I deal with him? Thrown in the ocean.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Actually, I had no desire to kill mister Diller, but
you forced yourself, and he offered his cooperation. Will be
alive this minute.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Yeah, he's in the water.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
But those shots he should have bring somebody, I mean,
an expedite matters as quickly as possible, mister Dollar.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Where's the tool kit? The tool kit? Oh, come, mister Dollar.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
The shooting has forced me to a tight schedule. Know
what Killa did with the tools. Look I don't know
what you're talking about, Hank. Yes, now wait a minute.
As you can see, mister Dollar, I mean to have
the information one way or another.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Look.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yeah, at one moment, Haank, mister dollar, I was prepared
to offer the late mister Geller five thousand dollars for
the toolkit. I'll make you the same offer. It's a
good offer.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
But how can I give you something I don't know.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Anything about ten thousand. I don't know anything about a
tool kit.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
You've been with, mister Giller. Sure, I can't believe you
were discussing the weather. Hardly.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I'm an insurance investigator. I'm investigating Frank Mender's murder.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Can you prove it? Certainly?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
I I don't think wrong.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
My wallet is in Geller's pocket. I'm applying.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
I think killer sent for you and told you where
he hit the toolkit.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Look, I found Geller hiding on the boat. He pulled
a gun on me, and my time is too short.
And look I'm telling you it.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Oh, where is it?
Speaker 1 (17:02):
I don't know the cool kid, mister.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Dallah, I don't know anything about it.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Baker's handy man beat me until I was asleep, trying
to make me give up the information Gellier had passed on.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
A few minutes before he was killed.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
I don't know how long I was out. When I
came to, I could hear breakers. I was lying on
the beach, looking up at the Big Moon and feeling
my head dropped as though it was stuck on the
end of a drumstick. And I managed to sit up
and look around me. I had no idea where I was,
but a.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Long groove in the sand.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
That stretched away from me showed clearly that I'd been
dragged from.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
The street seven hundred feet behind me. I scumbled to.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
My feet, and that's when I saw walking along by
the water headed my way, her soft blonde hair blowing
and the casual breeze. She was barefoot and wearing white
shorts and a terry cloth shirt. I guess it was
a little cool for the black bathing, so she stopped
when she saw me.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Oh, good evening, Hello, mister taller.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
You you're beating?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, yeah, that happened sometimes.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
What are you doing out here?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Waking up? What are you doing?
Speaker 3 (18:25):
I'm just taking a walk here.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
On your face, it's all bruise. How far is your
house down the beach?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Got a mile.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
You think you could scare up some higher time.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, come on, Oh ste a little busy.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yep, I'll put your arm around Meat.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Saidy mm what I leaned on missus Meadows, but she
stared me to her house.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Oh, there smelled clean and fresh touch of perfume.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
In the house.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
She found the iyadroe and touched up the sword spots.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
So hurt. Oh, I'm sorry, I don't make it.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Nothing the world happened.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
You know a man named Baker, Baker no runs around
with a handy man named Hank.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Oh I never heard of him.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
I found Dave Geller tonight where on the J bell?
Speaker 3 (19:23):
On the J bell?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Why would he go there? Best price to hide, last
place the police would look.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Did he do that to you?
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Oh? No, Hank did it with Baker's blessings. But why well,
I don't know. I'm not sure. When I found Geller,
he was hiding on the J bell.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
He pulled a gun on me and Baker and Hank
showed up and it turned into a shooting match. Do
you know anything about some kind of a tool kit?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Tool kit?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I know it sounds silly, but Geller got killed for it.
I nearly took the same trip because of.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
A tool kid. I don't see what.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Before Gemma got killed, he told me to go to
Bernie's garage was on Maple Street. He told me to
tell Bernie that he sent me and to ask for
the tool kit.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
I still don't understand. What doing I fortant about a
tool kit?
Speaker 1 (20:14):
I don't know, but something is. Your husband was probably
killed for the same reason.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Go over to Bernie's garage and take a look at
this tool kit?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Do me a favor? Send me Call the tenant, Solomon,
and tell him where I've gone. Tell him to meet
me there.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
All right, Oh, I haven't got a car still down
at the landing.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Excuse mine. I'll get you the kid.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
I drove a car over to the garage on Maple Street,
poked it, and got out.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
The garage was open.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
And the sign over the door read twenty four hour service.
I went in and found a mechanic stretched out on
a bench.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Sound asleep? Hey, hey, come on, come on, wake up? Okay,
I'm up. No, don't wait, he is I'm really knocking
at all? Where can I find Bernie? You just woke
him up?
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Dave gotta tempt me over. Yeah, he said to pick
up the toolkit.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
He did. Hey, yeah he did. Now where's the toolkit?
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Now?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
I know Dave's hinted because I said he did something
so important about a toolkit. Hain't No, we're going Dave left.
You shouldn't be sure.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Don't give me no one kept him. Why can't you
take it over to court? Tell me Dave's hint you
you better have Jame palmy. You have a hard time
talking with his mouth full of water, which means he
was killed and dumped in the babe.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Now, Lieutenant Solomon will.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Be here in a few minutes, So we are out
that toolkit you wish cute? That's right fully, Frank, and
then the tool it? Huh, well, what's the matter?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
You cop?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
No, I'm not a cop, you know. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
I'm an insurance investigator. I'm investigating two murders, Frank Meadows
and Dave Geller, insurance investigators.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
That's kind of like a.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Copy everything, but the feet get any against you?
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Now, look, are you gonna get that toolgether? Do I have? Kay?
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Okay, go hip people up, I'll get it out. It
looks like somebody that kind of up with you.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, kind of. I got it, showed me a park apartment.
How come you show injuries seating a bunch of tools?
Do you see him?
Speaker 1 (22:43):
No box is blocked tight? There is. It's a plain
old to old kids.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Yeah, you got something? I can bust this? Oh no't
wait to go bar nothing.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Well we've been away for lutenant Charlemon.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
If you ain't gonna key, I got got me that
crowbar Okay, okay. If you can't my principles.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
He if he't want it, you just pick up the kids.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
He should have called he's dead. Remember who if you
know who killed him? A man named Baker.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yes, here's Ja Mar.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
They could, they could.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
They were very so I didn't cut him. It might
be kind of sad. Uh. I listened to lead and
looked in him. I couldn't have been more surprised, because
they're in.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
The boxes exactly what I didn't expect to find too.
About just the of 'em, all sizes, brand news. All
the toes were painted black, but on the handle of
a large run there was a small space that had
been scraped down to the metal. I picked the wrench
up and looked at it more closely. I got a
(24:08):
pocket knife and scraped some shavings from the metals.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
I stood up and held the shavings under.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
The light, and then I understood a whole lot of things.
The shavings were solid platinum.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Hey you got miss Shoe. We meet again, Miss the Dollar.
It was Barton w.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Baker, complete with white suit.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Gun and bodyguard.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
He looked at the platinum wrench I held in my hands, smiled, and.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Moved slowly across the room towards me. I couldn't help
the girl, and I mean, let me take.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Him back here, take the old man up in the garage,
thanking god him until I'm finnicked.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Form the dollar. Yes, well the dollar.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
You were lying to us, I thought.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
So that's why you let me live. So I lead
you here precisely. The tools are platinum, of.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Course, but you knew that Galla just told me where
to find him. I had no idea what they were where.
I'm afraid your curiosity will be short lived.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
I kind of thought that was the way it was.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
You killed Frank Meadows because he discovered the secret of
the tool. Yes, if he had simply picked me up
and landed me as he was paid the tool, I
take it you're an alien, mister Baker, correctly, would I
know your government, mister Baker, unless you happen to be death,
dumb and blind. Now, if you'll just proceed with me
back to the garage, one more question, Yes, how did
(25:40):
Dave Galla get hold of the kid? He and Meadows
were offered a large sum of money for kicking me
up on the other side of the border. I bought
the boat. Yeller grew suspicious of the kids, and knowing
that I could not possibly notify the authorities that it's set,
he forced me at gun point to go ashore and
leave the kid with him. Fortunately, I got to a
phone and notified our operatives lof Angeleer.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
They missed the boat, but it's up and killed medals,
but Yeller escaped.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Correct now, mister Dollar, I'm in a great hurry.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
But well, I missed another shooting. But sho did Baker?
For that matter.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
When Hank yelled, Baker turned just enough to give me
a chance to swing the heavy platinum wrench.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
What's it all about? Dollars?
Speaker 1 (26:22):
I thought you'd never get here, Lieutenant Missus Meadows Calton
had to get right over.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
You know something. I think you were her An apology Okay,
so she'll get an apology.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah, you tell me who the guy on the floor
is and who the guy was I had to kill
in the garage.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Here have a platinum wrench.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
O what Yeah, yeah, mister Baker is going to have
one very expensive headache. On the way over to my motel,
(27:03):
I explained the events to Solomon, who did a little
mumbling and shaking himself. Then, after a fresh shower and
a change of clothes, I went over to Missus Meadows
and expressed my most heart stele thanks. Expense acount Item
three one hundred and seventy six dollars and eighty five cents, hotel.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Bill and expenses for the next two days.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
While I hung around Newport resting up, I saw Missus
Meadows a few times before I left, but for some
reason I didn't get much of a hand. I spend
account Adams five and six, two hundred and twenty five
dollars car rental, plane fare and incidentals back to Hotford.
Spent to count total six hundred and four dollars and
fifteen cents. Oh yes, Barton Baker comes up for trial
(27:45):
on illegal entering, smuggling, and three counts of espionage.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
I hope he.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Enjoyed his stay in the USA. Here truly, Johnny Dollars
