Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Big bluein Sider Dick Gabriel on a
Friday edition, going into a huge weekend. You've got volleyball
tomorrow with the Final four on the line. Coming up Tonight,
we'll hear from Craig Skinner and the Wildcats, as well
as Hunter Mitchell, who covers UK volleyball for VB Adrenaline
and of course has a podcast with ukl American Leah Edmund.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
We're going to talk, of course.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Kentucky football. A little bit of news coming up this week.
Cutter Bowley is on the All the SEC freshman team
schedule has been released for will Stein. It's brutal, but
of course basketball at the top of the list today
because tomorrow the Wildcats take on the Indiana Hoosiers. And yes,
I know the volleyball team is looking at the final four.
I get that, but this could be a turning point
(00:42):
for Mark Pope's team.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Can they beat a good team?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
They've beaten bad teams, but can they beat a good
Indiana team coming off an absolute shell lacking of Penn State.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
But they've won other big games. They did lose to Louisville, but.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
They scored more than one hundred points four or five times.
This is a good IU team, and Mark Pope, who
played in this series, it's good that this rivalry series
is back, and he loves this game, he said, and
it will remind us tomorrow's game, he hopes, of old
school UK versus IU.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
What they're doing over there right now is actually awesome
because when you guys watch them play, you're gonna feel
very much like Bob Knight Indiana in the sense of
like they're playing with the unbelievable movement and motion and
with high IQ and so even that part of the
style of play that they're playing at right now is
pretty inspiring and it just harkens back to a great
(01:34):
tenure in Indiana basketball. And I love the game. I
have incredibly. I have such great memories of playing in
these games and I like it. I like it for us,
I like it for fans, I like it for Indiana.
I think it's a great game.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
As you know, Kentucky has played good teams, lost to
them all Louisville, North Carolina, Gonzaga. Pope says this IU
team will present different challenges in any team his ball
club has faced so far.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Bring two players together in every different conceivable way Okay,
So they are a huge slip team.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
They are a.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Huge like push screen team. They'll set incredibly violent physical screens.
You know, they'll bring a third player together and kind
of trick it up. They'll go text where it's a
you know, work in a text to a live ball
rescreen stuff. You know, they'll set screens underneath to kind
of slip with you. And you know, they's set a
(02:27):
lot of guard guard screens. And so they're bringing two
players together a lot to kind of manufacture some confusion.
They do it really, really well. So they're gonna test
everybody they play this year. They're gonna really test their
ability to communicate on the.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Fly, and that will be key for a Wildcat team
that is not good yet defensively, not nearly as good
as it needs to be, and it's got to get
better so it can score in transition. Not a great
shooting team, so they need to get points in transition.
Indiana does it really well. Kentucky's gonna need to slow
Indiana tomorrow, but also do it itself. It's gonna help
(03:03):
if and when Jade and Quaintens gets back. Mark Pope
talked about him a lot was really upbeat with the
latest progress report on the man. The Big Man are
transferred in from ASU and should be Kentucky's rim protector
at some point.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well, this is it now, this is it, Like we're
going to try and like you know, we're we're at
the stages where he's not a full practice guy yet,
but he's getting he's inching his way closer and closer
to it. Yesterday was the first time he actually crossed
half court with us, and it was in very limited reps.
It was controlled. We actually stopped the drills short of
(03:38):
where we normally go, but he actually did, you know,
the cross half court, which is which is another I mean,
he's had so many markers along the way, but that's
another big one. And he responded really well, and so
we're hoping that it's you know, we're now into the
like days and weeks more than we are the months,
which is exciting.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
And by the way, we're gonna talk Jack Gibbons coming
up to the bottom of the hour. He's been going
to practice, so we will get an update on Quainton's
and the entire team from Jack. Not to mention Mohammed Diabaatee,
who I don't know will play tomorrow. Boy.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
They could really use his physical presence.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
But we're a just gonna ask Jack about the cohesion
on this team. So much chatter out there about possible
chemistry problems. We had the players last night dismissing that,
but I want to hear what Jack has to say
about it as well. But the bottom line is Kentucky's
running out of opportunities to beat good teams help itself
(04:37):
when it comes down the road to the nca Tournament.
You got to win these quad one games, and as
Pope pointed out, they've had ample opportunity to do it
this year, they're not coming anywhere near to what they
did last year.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Last year we won more games in against top fifteen
ranked opponents than anybody has in the history college basketball,
right And this year we're zero to four against top
fifteen teams and we haven't started out the way we
want to. But I'm telling you guys, like we got
a lot, and like we got a lot in the hopper,
we just have to we just have to figure out
how to get it out on the playing court. And
(05:12):
that would be one space where the original plan was
kind of live. In that space, we haven't had a
chance to do that yet, but I would love to
get there, and I'd love to I'd love the experiment
on that for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
And again Jack Gibbons comes up at the bottom of
the hour. We'll get more insight from Jack on the team,
what he sees, what are you seeing in practice, what.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
He hopes to see in the game.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
And Jack played in so many great ukiu games. This
was Joe b versus Bob Knight and Mark Polk talked
about this the other night on his show and if
you haven't done it yet.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Google Bob Knight.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Joe Hall and Kyle Tucker, the former beat writer on
the UK Beat who for The Athletic, wrote this piece,
this profile about the Joe b Bob Knight relationship which
turned into kind of a feud, went from being fishing
buddies to enemies.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Just a fascinating story and a well written.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Piece by Kyle. But it adds a little flavor to
this story. Speaking of flavor, there's a little UK flavor
to the story. Down in North Carolina, Bill Belichick has
fired Freddie Kitchens, his offensive coordinator. North Carolina had one
of the worst offenses in the country. Freddy Kitchens was
(06:23):
the quarterback for Alabama in nineteen ninety seven when Kentucky
upset the Crimson time only went over Alabama for the
Wackcats tim Cops to Craig easton overtime. Freddie Kitchens did
throw two touchdown passes in that game, but that was
not a great Alabama team finished with a losing record,
but still one of the greatest moments in the history
of Kentucky football. The Kitchens today is without a job.
(06:47):
One other headline from Kentucky football Steven Soles in the
transfer portal. A linebacker. He's a good one. You hate
to see him go. Bud will Stein and his crew
are out there recruiting. They're going to try to find
another Steven Soules out there. Coming up, we're gonna talk
Kentucky volleyball. Bottom of they aver Jack Gibbings here on
the Big Movingsiders six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
It's a high level game against a high level team,
and so you know, it's big girl volleyball, and you've
got to execute, score, maybe score a point here and there,
and you know, just stay locked in the whole time
because it's gonna be a it's gonna be a.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Battle that's Craig Skinner following the Wildcats win over cal
Poly yesterday and looking ahead to tomorrow's action against the
Creighton Blue Jays. And look, when you're in the NCAA tournament,
there are draws and there are draws, but you're always
no matter where you are, you're gonna run into a
tough team. And that's what Kentucky has done. But that's
(07:41):
what it takes to get to the final four. I
can't say this is the toughest the lead eight matchup,
but Creighton is a really really good volleyball team, a
great program. It's just one of those pockets of volleyball
out there in Omaha where.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
They fill the house. They recruit incredibly well, and they
play so well.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I was talking to Kathy de Boor after the game,
my former after the Kentucky match, my former, a broadcast
partner and a former coach at Kentucky as well as
the head of the Coaches Association before she retired last year,
and she told me, she said, this Creighton team is
really really good, fully capable of beating Kentucky and plays
every facet of the game well, maybe not great in
(08:23):
one area, but good at everything. And In fact, Creighton's
coach Brian Rosen said the same thing looking ahead to
Saturday's matchup. And this was before he knew they were
playing Kentucky. It could have been the UK, could have
been cal Poly.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
He just likes his team.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
I think we are the best volleyball team in the country.
There might be teams that are more athletic, or more physical,
or any of those things. But we will out volleyball
people like we will out team people. And that's what
I want our team to go do on Saturday. And
again they keep talking about it. We're just happy to
continue to be together and continue to play. I love
(09:00):
this group of time and excited for more volleyball together.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
It's Brian rose and the head coach of Creighton, and
Ava Hudson was asked about his comments in the postgame,
and she just said, we're just looking forward to playing
again and seeing what we can do and showing people
what we have. Well, they got a chance to show
a lot of people what they had. A great crowd
showed up at Historic Memorial Coliseum on Thursday, wasn't entirely
(09:24):
a full house.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I don't know that I was expecting that.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
I wouldn't be surprised even with a basketball game, even
with the weather being what it is right now, I
wouldn't be surprised if they packed the house again the
way Kentucky fans did for the Tennessee match. That was
back when Craig Skinner jumped up on the desk and
shouted from the rooftops and then he went to the
top of Rupp Arena, went to the bottom of the pool.
At UK this week, he went up in a fighter
(09:48):
jet to plug volleyball. But the crowd was just tremendous,
and the players of course noticed that. And Eva Hudson,
the All American said, going in knew even with the
weird starting time three thirty on a Thursday. She said
she and her teammate's new they'd have a great.
Speaker 7 (10:06):
Crowd, absolutely amazing. Some people were like, do you think
we'll get a crowd, and our whole team was like, nah, Like,
we'll have a crowd because they show up every single time.
And it's so funny because we don't even know what
Craig's up to, and then we see the post and
he's in a plane, so we're about in the dark
as you all. But no, it's absolutely amazing. Being able
(10:27):
to play in front of them, and then being able
to play in front of them on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
So yeah, Hudson was one of three players who transferred
into Kentucky through the portal, along with Lizzie Carr and
Molly Breswitz. Carr and Hudson came from Purdue, Breduwitz came
from Marquette. They knew Eva Hudson was really really good.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
If not great.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
She was great at Purdue, and she's been even better
at Kentucky playing opposite not opposite technically, but alongside Brooklyn Delay.
But Lizzie Carr has been really better than advertised. She
was a good player perdue, but especially of late, she
has given Kentucky so much more I think than really
Greig Skinner might have anticipated. You knew she could block,
(11:10):
She's six or five with that long wingspan, but especially
against well, just yesterday against cal Poly she had eleven
kills in a sweep, an unexpected sweep of a really
good team.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
So Lizzie Carr has been terrific.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
And she talked about the fact that the Big Blue
Nation made an absolute difference that crowd showing up and
showing out yesterday.
Speaker 8 (11:33):
We obviously are got the second got to host the
second and third round, and so it's really cool to
be able to have BBN show out and make it
feel like a real home court advantage, because without them,
there wouldn't really be a huge difference in it being
here or someone else, beside some of the routine stuff
getting ready for pregame and so the whole entire crowd
being blue and being so loud is just what's such
(11:56):
a big benefit for us.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
That's Lizzie Carr talking about home court advantage, sleeping in
your own bed, your own routine. If you heard my
conversations with Cam Schitzock, who broadcast matches with me last
week in I SEC plus came on the show as
well and was part of that NCAA championship team back
in twenty twenty, She talked about just how valuable home
court advantage is, and of course you don't get to
(12:18):
see that now in nca tournaments with basketball, but clearly
it is when when you go on the road, it's
all for one, one for all, and that's great, but
playing out, there's nothing like playing at home, especially when
a crowd.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Can lift you up. Will that make a difference tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (12:34):
It could, Although Creighton, I think is good enough to
silence a crowd if it needs to when it can.
But when Kentucky is hitting on all cylinders as it
was yesterday, especially in that third set, they beat cal
Poly twenty five to seven, that's unheard of in the
NCAA tournament, you know what, That's almost like, I hate
(12:56):
to bring this up nineteen eighty four, when Kentucky went
three for three three, how.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Do you think Georgetown fans felt about that?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Everything went right for their team, wrong for the other team,
and they were loving it. UK fans were suffering, you know,
cal Poly's people were suffering through that.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
It just happened.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
But once the crowd got into it even more, it
just snowballed. So fans get a lot of credit for that.
And Cassie O'Brien, the freshman setter, said they could feel
the way the crowd got into it, especially in set
number three.
Speaker 9 (13:27):
I feel like even in that third set, it was
we kind of talked about it was like kind of
the loudest that we've heard in it. Just being a
Thursday at three point thirty, you wouldn't really expect that,
but it just shows how much, you know, BBN really
shows out for us and is there.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
That's Cassie O'Brien, who is the SEC Freshman of the Year.
Took over the job as the starting setter early in
the season and just got better and better.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
She's got a lot to.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Learn, of course, but yesterday she had thirty one assists
in a three set match, three kills, five swings. Setters
don't often get killed. She had three and five swings,
also five digs. Her defense really good and three total
blocks and if you don't know volleyball, that's.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
A big deal.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
So your setter giving you those kinds of numbers just phenomenal.
So and the Wildcats also got more help in the middle.
We talked about Lizzie Carr with eleven kills, eleven kills.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
One air, fifteen swings. She had six sixty seven.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Think of that as batting average, and you can see
just how crazy those stats are. Niva Hudson got her
nine kills, Brooklyn Delay got eight, modest numbers, but again
a three set match. But also in the middle, Kennedy
Washington had seven kills no errors on ten swings. So
between her and Lizzie Carr, that's eighteen kills and he
(14:47):
throwing Jordan Daily had three kills, Asia thig Pen had
a couple.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Just phenomenal. The way they played against the.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Cow Poly team that I thought certainly would take at
least one set off the Wildcats.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
I thought, maybe it goes five, and I thought, God forbid,
maybe Cap Pauly comes in and wins.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
But again, Kathy de Boor told me she was confident
going into that match because she felt like Kyle Paul
had some areas Kentucky could exploit, and it did, especially
with serving, and Kentucky served extremely well. We're gonna ask
Hunter Mitchell about why that's so vital.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
He'll get he'll explain it for you coming up in
our next hour.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
But Kentucky just played so well on top of its
game right now, and you add in the home court advantage,
you like their chances against Creighton, But that, along with
Nebraska and Louisville and Texas, is going to be among
the toughest matches of the year, and it comes at
a tough time in the Elite eight. But think about
(15:44):
what's on the line, another trip to the Final four.
It would be Kentucky's second in the last five years,
kind of five, five and a half and you factor
in all the calendar, how it was scrambled during COVID,
but just a great opportunity for the Wildcats. And it'll
be at historic Mamaio Coliseum on Saturday tomorrow night at
five o'clock. We'll come back and talk with Jack Gibbons.
(16:07):
We'll talk basketball about UK Indiana. I'm also going to
ask Jack about the notion that there are dissensions in
the ranks and that Mark Pope just kind of stands
around watching and needs to get angry more often. All
that stuff that we've heard in social media and on
the various platforms.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
We'll touch it all. We'll cover it all with Jack,
who played in some huge games against those Hoosiers.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
That's next, though mentioned Hunter Mitchell coming up a little
bit later on and Billy Rutler's NFL picks.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
That's all I had on six thirty WLAP Welcome back.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Joining us down our celebrity hotline is mister Jack Gibbons.
He will call the action tomorrow night as the Wildcats
take on the Indiana Hoosiers and as we speak, Jacks
and Ratt Although he has safely pulled over on his
way to Glasgow to talk to a group and sell
a few books. And by the way, Jack, Christmas coming up,
stocking stuffers a book might be a good gift, right, Absolutely,
(17:02):
that's the better, you know, And I love the fact
every time I talk to you about the book you used,
you sound surprised at how well it's still selling. But man,
that was that was a great moment in time for
Kentucky fans. And you've got a lot of new fans
who are learning about Kentucky basketball. What better way than
to read about Jack Gibbons, right, And I'm I'm half.
Speaker 10 (17:21):
Kiddy, yeah, no, no, no, but you're right about that.
I mean, I am shocked every day with how many
younger uh young people come up and and and know
who I am. And I guess with that, uh uh,
you know, with the Twitter machine and the Google machine
(17:42):
and all of that in the radio and the radio
of course, with all of that you have going on, man,
you can you can follow a guy, or if you're
not familiar, you can uh uh you can find out
so uh yeah, but still I'm amazed at how many
young people uh come up and uh know who I am.
It drives me, uh uh you know, it really really
(18:06):
is good to have that.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
I come over and chat with you when I can pregame,
uh and and I always have to respectfully wait my
turn because you are constantly signing and posing for photos.
And it's it's not all people of a certain age,
It's it's a lot of kids, right.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
I love that.
Speaker 10 (18:25):
I love that people still recognize me or want to
picture and all of that stuff. I mean, but just
between you and me, it's been a few days ago
since I played here, you know, so uh so to
be uh be asked to be a part of uh
of stuff, uh, it's I mean, it still just surprises me.
(18:49):
Uh and and very flattering. I'm very honored to to
uh still be uh a part of the big Blue Nation,
part of uh the scene here.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Folks need to know, Jack and I graduated the same year,
so I know exactly how many days it's been. Although
I was an academic red shirt, so oh yeah, I
should have been out the year prior, but quit school
for a little while.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
To make some money and then got back in it.
But well, let's let's.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Talk about this Kentucky team. And you were working with
me on the pro day broadcast and then we were
all excited about.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
It, and then the Jalen Low injury.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
And I know he's just one guy, but he is
really the only true point guard on that roster. Uh.
And I've talked to Sean Wood's a great deal about
of course he's biased toward point guards, but it's pretty
easy to see that they really the bass sticks often
too much on offense. I've heard you talk about that
with Tom. Let's get some more movement on offense. How
(19:45):
how optimistic are you all?
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Are you that they can work through this?
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Well?
Speaker 10 (19:51):
I'm very optimistic, Gabe. I mean, I'm to begin with,
I'm a glass to have full kind of guys. I
know my best to stay positive all the time. But
when I first looked at the pieces way back in
the summer, and then the expectation of having JQ joined
(20:14):
us at some point, I was really really exciting, excited
about what was to come. And I'm still that way
because the pieces are still there and Quaintin's is closer
and closer to coming back. So I'm still very optimistic.
But you know, you just need to have certain people healthy,
(20:39):
and you know, when you're facing great competition, and we've
seen some really good teams and at times three of
your top four maybe players are out, you're not going
to beat people.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
And I.
Speaker 10 (20:57):
Know that it's hard for for people to understand, but
I don't know for sure why that's hard for people
to understand, if you know what I mean. I mean, yeah,
you know we should be able, and that's a credit.
We've beaten all those teams we were supposed to be.
I mean, so I've seen enough in those games to
(21:20):
know that if we just get everybody back, and we're
very close, but if we just get everybody back, we
were going to be a really good team.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
And people need to understand that. Jack has been to
a lot of practices. Of course preseason I'm talking, and
when the entire team was together minus only Jaydan Quaintons,
there was a lot to look at. I got to
I was privileged enough to see them going into Pro
Day and that was a team as good as advertising.
Again remembering that the acquaintance was not there, but all
(21:52):
the other parts were there. We haven't seen that group
since the Blue White Game, have we?
Speaker 10 (21:58):
Well you haven't, but I have because I've seen it
in practice the last couple.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Of days, and the players, all the ones, all.
Speaker 10 (22:07):
The players, all of those we haven't seen them on
the floor. But uh, my point is the last couple
of days in practice, I've seen them all because j
JQ is out running and now he's doing full court
stuff and uh MO practice the last couple of days.
We should see him Saturday and then j Lo practice
(22:32):
is practicing, so he'll be available. So we haven't seen it,
but I have. You know, I've been blessed, been blessed
who have been in practice the last couple of days. Man,
And so I'm sitting over there watching them on the side,
I'm sitting over there, and you know, I'm I'm I'm
(22:54):
lifted up off the chair. I'm so excited. I'm lifted
up off the chair. My feet won't touch the grounds.
I'm ready to I mean, but they they have looked
to me, they've looked as good and practice, uh the
last couple of days. Uh then then they then they
have all year long because of the addition of j Q.
(23:17):
He's not gonna play, don't get me wrong, but it's
just great to see him going up and down the floor.
And then as far as MOA is concerned, as far
as uh j Lo is concerned, we may not see them.
They might be a game time decision. But the promise
of what to come, what is to come has been
great for me to see the last couple of days.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
But that means that they if they don't have them
going into this Indiana game, that's a good Indiana team.
I mean, this might be another tough pill to swallow
for the Wildcats.
Speaker 10 (23:49):
Oh it will, Yeah, it will. Without those guys, it'll
be tough. I I know that, you know we want
them back. We want those guys back as soon as possible.
We don't want them to the extent that they might
(24:09):
end up injured for a longer period of time. So
we always have to be concerned about that. And we're
running out of time with these at a conference big wins,
we were running out of time. But I think you're
going to see a team against Value, I really do gave.
I think we're going to see a team that is
(24:32):
nowhere close to what we saw down in Atlanta against Gonzagon.
I'm talking about in a positive way. I mean, this team,
you won't even you say, man, that's not even the
same team that we saw down in Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
And I'm hoping that.
Speaker 10 (24:53):
I'm hoping that's not the same team. We don't see
that team again for the next twenty years. But but
we're going to see a team that, if nothing else,
it's going to leave every else of energy that they
have on the floor, which in itself will make this
(25:13):
team a lot.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Better well, and that will make the Big Blue Nation
extremely happy. And one more follow up a question on this,
what has Mark Pope been like in practice because we
saw his temper come out in an NC Central game.
Speaker 10 (25:28):
Yes, you know, gab it. It's pretty interesting because when
you see that, and now understand that I am in practice,
right and I see that Mark Pope every day. Other
people don't, but I see that Mark Pope every day.
(25:48):
So as it happened the other day in practice against Central,
Markolin Central, and everybody that's to see it, oh that
he has that in and I'm already known that.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
It's what I'm saying.
Speaker 10 (26:06):
So his temperament has been just the same as it
was before that situation in the Central games. And it's
that way now because that's Mark and he is a
lot more like what you saw from him in that
(26:29):
game than what everybody's perception was. He's a lot more
like that, So just understand that it's coming out and
that too might be the reason why the last they
practice have been what they have been. So it's a positive.
Believe me, it's a positive.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Gotcha, you know, because I saw one fan on Twitter
fan air quote saying I'm tired of his nonchalant attitude.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
I'm like, wow, you've done and I'm not even a
practice every day. I know that's wrong.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
So we're talking to Jack Gibbons of the UK radio
network UK All America, and we'll come back with a
little more with Jack as he's on the road to
Glasgow for speaking engagement, but it's pulled over to safely
speak with us here on six thirty WLAP. Welcome back
with chatting with Jack Gibbons. Jack, we've talked looking into
rearview mirror a little bit. Let's look ahead to Indiana
and well, actually let's look in the rearview mirror at
(27:22):
your time at Kentucky, Indiana, Kentucky back then.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I mean, I think it's always great.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
But it was unbelievably special because there were times when
there was a game where you guys were both in
the top five. More than once you're in the top five,
you know you lost to him. Of course, in San
Diego there were great regular season games. What was it
like being a part of UK Indiana back then with
Joe b versus Bob Knight.
Speaker 10 (27:47):
Yeah, the UT game and the IU game were the
games that we most look forward to being a part
of because they were such big rivalries. Of course, we
didn't play Loiso back in that at that time. But
the Indiana series, Man, I mean, I remember. The thing
that is great about that is my worst game, one
(28:10):
of my worst games, and one of my best games
was and college was against Indiana. The worst was we
went up to Bloomington and they beat us twenty four
points and we almost had to fight our way out
of there. That was that was on the bad side.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
The day.
Speaker 10 (28:32):
On the good side was that game in in Dayton
later that year when they were number one in the country.
They were undefeated. We were some great basketball. We might
have been number three or something like that in the country,
but we were up there really high, and we played
each other in that game and they and we came
(28:54):
back and we beat them and went on to the
final four. So that was in those two games. But
that's the way it was all the time. Bobby Knight
and his antics, I mean, it was really neat.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Yeah, well I've got it up in front of me,
but yeah, you're right. In Bloomington, Jackie, were zero for three.
You played twelve minutes, you were scoreless. But in Dayton
and I was there, you played twenty nine minutes. Only
three other players played more. You were four of seven. Again,
no three pointers back then you had eight points, but
six rebounds and a.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Couple of assists. You had two assists in that game.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
So yeah, that was that was a good time to
have one of your better games against IU. And Kevin
Greevy was on this week and we replaced some of
his comments. He was on with Mark Pope, and I
had Jerry Hale on last night talking about that a
native of Indiana who chose Kentucky and of course you
were a son of Lexingon, so you're gonna pick Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Did Indiana did night try to recruit you at all?
Speaker 11 (29:53):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (29:53):
Yeah, they were there, But I had no no knowledge
you back in those or who they were, what they were.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
I didn't.
Speaker 10 (30:03):
I was busy playing at Bryan's station and trying to
make most of my high school career. So yeah, but
they did recruit me some.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Yeah, and Kentucky back then, of course, and we can
go down this road all night long. But it was
back in the day when players stuck around for four years.
So and and the big Nation still has its arms
around you and around guys from that era because they
get to know you, you know, they get to watch
(30:36):
you grow up before their very eyes. And games like
Indiana that that really helps with that process.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Doesn't it.
Speaker 10 (30:43):
Yeah, and that's magnified even more because I was fortunate
to stay home. I mean, I played high school ball here,
James Lee and I did, so yeah, they knew us
even from high school. But yeah, those kind of games, Uh,
you know, the fans forget those kind of games, and
uh and and parents and kids about their kids, tell
(31:07):
their kids and uh, uh you know it was it
was just the time when people knew us, got to
know us from the very beginning. Four years of playing
and following us every day whether we had games or not. Uh,
just just made it a different time. And uh it's
(31:28):
kind of endeared us to the fans for putting the
time in, for staying here, from being a part of
uh the basketball scene for four years, and uh, you
know a lot of a lot of good memories there.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Oh yeah, well, this Indiana team is eight and two,
coming off a blow out win over Penn State. But
prior to that, back to back losses at Minnesota Conference
game and then against Louisville at home, And as we
know now, Louisville's a pretty good ball club. What do
you expect tomorrow? What kind of game? And you know,
is it going to be a grinder? It's got to be,
(32:02):
I would think if Kentucky plays well.
Speaker 10 (32:05):
Right, yeah, yeah, I think it's going to be that
kind of game. I think they're gonna haven't been really physical,
but I think they're going to try to be as
physical with Kentucky as possible. They are a good defensive team.
They do a lot of things very well, but they
are they want to outscore you.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Do what I mean.
Speaker 10 (32:28):
They shoot a lot of threes, they're big or are
all shooting high percentage around the basket and facing up
with the short jumpers and that kind of stuff. So
Kentucky's going to have their work cut out for them.
Especially they must be good defensively. I think it will
(32:48):
obviously help a lot if someone other than oh Way
is scoring points when when the guys around him are
are making shots, it makes it easier for old Way
to do what he does. But he's got to be
the catalyst on defense. Man, he's got to get them
going defensively. He'll get his offensively, but he's got to
(33:10):
get them going defensively. And I'm looking forward to a
great game.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Well, Lamar Wilkerson at forty four against Penn State, he
had ten three pointers. This is the guy who transferred
in from Houston but was ten to fifteen from deep.
They cannot obviously let him get off. But Jack, they've scored.
To your point about offense in the end, he scored
more than one hundred points four times already, which means
they get out in transition and also hit the threes.
(33:36):
Kentucky said, trouble getting into transition. Some of that is because,
of course, Jalen Lowe. I think some of it too, Jack,
And again they missed modiabate. They're not as tough on
the boards, I think as they need to be. I
think a lot of times it looks like they're hanging back, like, well,
Malachi is going to get that.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
One and nobody else is helping. Does it look that
way to you?
Speaker 10 (33:56):
Yeah? The guards have to get back and be better rebounders.
And we got some guards. We have some who can
rebound basketball. You just have to make a point. I mean, Gabe, Look,
I mean defense is it takes energy, and at times
this team has not shown the energy that I know
(34:16):
they have, and you know, you just sometimes it just
comes down to wanting to and you just have to
want to rebound the basketball. I mean, that's what that
comes down to. That's why Dennis Rodman was one of
the best rebounders we've ever seen, because he just wanted to. Man,
and he wasn't the tallest, he wasn't the strongest by far.
(34:39):
But when you sometimes you just have to forget about
everything else and say, man, I'm going to get this one.
And every player on Kentucky's team has to have that mindset,
not just in the Indiana game, but for every game
the rest of the way. And I do think, Gabe,
I do think we'll see that kind of approach in
(35:00):
this game against Indiana.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
I'll let you go with this.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
There's been so much talk about the internet, chatter social
media about team chemistry, dissension, this and that. Look, if
your shots aren't going in the way they did in
Nashville against Gonzaga, everything's.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Gonna look dimmer and gloomier.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
I think that was a product of that, And I
do think that was a real anomaly of games. I mean,
this ball just wasn't going in the hole. They started
forcing shots, et cetera. But you travel with this team
at times, you live with this team, You're a practice
a lot. I got to think that, you know, I
would know as well as anybody if there is desension.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Again, I've only been there a little bit, but I
didn't see any of that.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Now, that was, of course preseason, but you're there almost
every day.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
What can you share?
Speaker 10 (35:49):
Well, I just wonder, you know, because I see some
of this stuff. And believe me, I don't have a
conversation with anybody nowadays where something about the team is
not brought up and they say this as if it's
a fact. And they say that as if it's a fact,
(36:10):
because I'm thinking, man, where in the world, how do
they Where does that come from? And I'm with these
guys every day. And the one thing I think that
has been as obvious as anything to me. We haven't
won all of them, we haven't played well in all
(36:30):
of them. But one thing that is the most clear
to me is these guys like each other, and I
can tell by body language and practice. I'm not in
the locker room, so I don't know what kind of
stuff is said in the locker room. But I've played
the game. I know there's been times, Gabe, when Rick
(36:52):
Roby has come up to me and he's grabbed me
by the by the jersey and got in my face
and said, Jack, you got to stop that guy, or
Jack drove me the ball. I'm open. I mean, Rick
Roby has done that, James Lee, and I've done it
to other guys. But man, that's practice. That's that's you know,
(37:17):
when when practice is over, shoot, I'm going out and
I might say to Rick, Rick, you grab my jersey, man,
so you gotta buy me a big mic. Come on, man,
you paid for it today. You know you grabbed me
by the jersey and we'll get a good laugh and
we still love each other. I mean, that's part of basketball.
I hope guys at times get in the fight. I
(37:39):
hope guys at times push each other and shove each other.
And I mean that's the only way to get good
because that's what's happening in the game.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Man.
Speaker 10 (37:49):
And but you still love each other. Man, You're still
eating together, going to movies together, everything else. But I
just I don't know where some of this stuff comes from.
I'm there and practice three times a week, and I
see games the other two nights and then so I
know these guys. I know them as well. I don't
(38:10):
know everything that happens. Yeah, but I've gotten to talk
to them enough to know when they're being genuine with me.
And I just don't see it. I don't know where
all this stuff is created. But these guys are good
with each other. Losing, Yeah, it make plans for everybody. Yeah,
no question about it.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Well there's no better place to leave it off with that, Jankie, Jack,
thank you so much for your time. Safe travels on
your way to Glasgow, and I don't see youmorrow night.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Have a great call.
Speaker 10 (38:40):
Thanks, Kate, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
I just love talking basketball with Jack Gibbons, and I
hope you enjoyed hearing it as well. And when we
come back, we'll talk more Kentucky volleyball and much a
way to return to Billy Rutley's.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Our NFL picks.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
Are coming up and I renumber two here on six
thirty wlapetat.
Speaker 12 (39:09):
Such pacts, taping anything to one.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Welcome back to the Big bluein Sider. We've talked a
lot of volleyball tonight.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
We will keep right on going with Hunter Mitchell of.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Volleyball Adrenaline dot com and his own podcast he does
with Lee Admin called it courtside with the Cats.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Wildcats, as we were saying.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Earlier, and everybody knows, yesterday knocked off the Cole Poly Mustangs,
and tomorrow they head to the Elite eight and take
on a really good Creton team. Hunter, let's start, Let's
go backwards. Let's start with that Kentucky match, because I
know you covered both. Tell me the truth now, did
(41:23):
you see a sweep at all? Because you and I
had talked about these teams and Kyle Poly's pretty good
was one of the Cinderella teams that pulled two upsets
and came in full of confidence.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Did you actually believe the Cats could sweep well?
Speaker 4 (41:38):
And they also play a lot of power fourteens this year.
Don't how many people know that? But like they took
Minnesota to four, they took Oklahoma to four, that obviously
took Kentucky to five. Into Memorial they pulled off the
two upsets in the first two rounds of the tournament,
and they also beat a Utah team that was ranked
when they played them. So they're not like an inexperienced
mid major that you know, Kentucky is their first, you know,
(41:58):
real competition all year. Like I knew that they were
going to come in and not be afraid of Kentucky,
and so, like they pull up those upsets because of
their serving and obviously when you play a team that
is really talented behind the service line, it's kind of
tough up because that's kind of the like bread and
butter of what volleyball is. If they have a hot
night from behind the line, it can kind of eradicate
any athleticism you have. So I thought a sweep would
(42:21):
be nice. I was kind of expecting maybe more for
just because of how well how Polly was playing. Certainly
did not expect any kind of you know, twenty five
to seven that win by Kentucky. So that was a surprise,
but a good one if you're a Kentucky fan.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
So anybody who was watching saw the young lady for
cal Polly kimlerver Sheer. She's the one folks who would
throw the ball about a mile up in the air
and then hit a rocket shot and somehow Kentucky's defenders
would not just receive it but make a good pass hunter.
I thought she might go on a little run here
(42:55):
and there, So did they, So did cal Polly.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Why did that not happen well?
Speaker 4 (43:01):
In large part because of Molly Brezwits and Molly Tuzzo.
I mean, the two of them were really anchoring the
pass and they have all year. But what made cow
Polly so good in the first two rounds against BYU
and USC was especially her behind the service line. Kraig
talked about it. She was going regularly on these six
h seven oz scoring runs just back there with that
top spin, and teams couldn't return it. And tonight, you know,
(43:23):
the first time she rotated back there, I was kind
of thinking, Okay, it's going to be a good indicator
of a is her serve going to be on right?
Because topspins can be really good, you can also have
knights where they're really bad. So it was in and
it was all it was great, and then how was
King's like, you're going to handle it? And Molly Tuzzo
promptly passed a literally perfect ball right on top of
Cathy's head that they immediately sided out with. So that
(43:44):
happened all night. I mean, she got two aces, but
they were the kind of aces that were like, hey,
sometimes you serve a ball that's so fast that it's
not physically inhumanly possible to return it. And that happened,
and I thought, you know, down there on the side
on the sideline, I heard them saying, hey, it happened
one point, let's go, like they were. They were not
worried about it. It wasn't like a, oh no, we're
going to get stuck like they were very much like,
(44:05):
it's not a big deal, get to the next one.
And they handled it every time. And even Kentucky tweeted
out a highlight of Eva Hudson getting this beautiful four
to four shot from left front to left front, but
it started with a perfect pass for Molly Brezowitz, and
that was kind of the same of the night. I
thought they did a phenomenal job of just keeping them
in system, especially when Bashir was back there with that serve.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Yeah, and I'm amazed because I read someplace where those
balls are coming at them upward to fifty miles an hour.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
You know, and I've seen players docked out of the way.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
I don't blame them, but to not I wouldn't get
the platform up, but a good pass that allows the setter.
And on that particular play by Eva Hudson, that was
almost textbook, wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
Yeah, it's what has allowed Kentucky to stay in system
all season. So, you know, for Malli to be able
to do that last night is really important. And I
think especially moving forward, you're playing a Creighton team that
is the fourth best serving team in the country in
terms of a so that's going to be important moving forward.
You've got to bring that exact same mentality not only
of getting the perfect path to Cassie, but if they
(45:08):
get an ace or if they get a tough serve
on you, it's got to be a next ball, get
the next one. Don't let one point turn into four.
That's how you lose matches, and the inst the tournament
is when you get tight and they serve one ace
and all of a sudden, one point suddenly snowballs near
down five, you know, late in the set. So if
they keep that same mentality, then they're going to be fine.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Well, we've talked before about how momentum in this sport
is really like no other. You know, the fortunes can
change just in one rotation. But that's why there are rotations.
You mentioned my Breduwitz and when when Craig Skinner accepted her,
you know, through the portal which he transferred, I can't imagine.
I know for a fact that he was looking for depth,
(45:50):
he was looking for this and that I can't imagine
though that he foresaw the kind of serving prowess she brought.
But the defense as well, she's tremendous on defense well, and.
Speaker 4 (46:01):
She we that's what when me and Leah talked to
her on the podcast, I didn't notice about her. I
wasn't thinking she's never defended the area of the court
that she is defending. She's always been a lebero, so
she's never had to defend right back and you don't realize,
but that's a very different area of the court you're defending,
and a lot different of a you're usually swinging against
or defending against right side to get the higher quality sets,
(46:23):
so you're not going to have as many opportunities to
take a ball because you're going to get a lot
more swings that are just perfect balls that go straight down,
so she's had to get used to defending them right back,
and that's just not something that's natural for her, but
for her when she told me that, I remember telling
Leah like, oh my goodness, if this is her first
year doing this and she's doing what she's doing, only
playing free rotations at a time, like that's phenomenal, And
(46:46):
I think it speaks to her work ethic, but also
just the kind of player she is, like she has
so much fun playing out there. You will never see
her not smiling. Every photo I've ever taken of that team,
she's always smile on like that. She's so grateful to
be playing for Kentucky. And you can tell whenever you
watch your play last night, same thing, Like, she just
has so much fun. She loves when you serve at
her because she gets the chance to say, hey, I
(47:08):
played for Kentucky and I can give you a perfect ball.
So I think that has been really cool to see
her growth. And she even mentioned on the podcast she said, yeah,
in the spring, I was playing and I looked at
Craig and I said, hey, I suck at this, And
it's just funny, Like how far she's grown, because she
most definitely does not. She has. She kept so many
plays going, but again gives so many opportunities to Eva
(47:28):
and Brooklyn, especially in transition to put the ball down.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Talking to Hunter Mitchell, who not only coaches volleyball but
covers Thewaucats for vv adrenaline dot com and as you mentioned,
his podcast with Leah Edmund, the UK All American who's
now off whether her pro career. Otherwise she'd be covering
the NCA tournament for ESPN. But you mentioned, we talked
about Bresuwitz to transfer, Lizzie Carr and Eva Hudson coming
(47:55):
in from Purdue.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
We'll talk about Eva.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
In a minute, but Lizzie Carr was I felt like
yesterday kind of the secret sauce. I use that a lot,
but I say that because you know about Brooklyn Delay,
you know about Eva hus and you're gonna get kills
anywhere between, you know, thirty and fifty from those tube and.
Speaker 2 (48:14):
Lizzie Carr just had her way, didn't she.
Speaker 4 (48:17):
Cal poly Well, honestly, Lizzie has been a relation all year,
Like I don't think anyone expected the kind of offensive
production that she's given them this year. Like I thought
she was going to come in and be kind of
the defensive middle, like, oh, she's going to get a
lot of blocks, but they won't set her very much.
You know, it's a high contact point. She was still acclimating,
which was at Purdue from when I was told like
she's kind of a raw talent. That's kind of the
(48:39):
thing I heard from behind the scenes about what she
could do, maybe a future product. There's nothing future product
about her, Like she is phenomenal. Eleven kills on fifteen
swings against cal Poly and really was terrible. I mean,
Cap Paula had no answer. She had such a high
reach that it's hard to defend her anyway. And I
think as Cassie has continued to get used to setting
her and the more their connection and that playment grows,
(49:02):
like she's just impossible to stop because she's so high
above the net. And then she's a terrific read blocker,
Like it doesn't matter if she's late because she's got
so much length, Like she can still get up there
and either slow a ball down or stuff block it.
And you saw that against cal Poly last night, Like
she just consistently just put so much pressure both offensively
and defensively, and that offense has been so important. It's really,
(49:24):
I think exploded over the last month. And I think
that's kind of why you've seen Kentucky pull off I
don't know, another gear or so to speak, in terms
of how good they are, because we all thought they
had plateaued in some way. It's like, man, they're really good.
Can they get any better? And the more Lizzy gets
going like it only opens it up more for Eva
and Brooklyn. So that's been huge for them.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
And I tread lightly when I talk about this, but.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
You can't help but.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
Compare the twenty twenty team, the championship team, and this one. Yeah, now,
because this one's kind.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Of earned that.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
And I kept saying that Maddie Skinner was kind of
the secret weapon for that team, because you know, our
sisters on one side and Alie Stellmler's on the other,
but nobody had any answers for Maddy. You are very few, right,
And now you've got ev O over here, you got
Brooklyn over there, one behind the back line, one on
the pin, and then Lizzie Carr totally different kind of
player than Maddie Skinner, but a real headache for the other.
Speaker 4 (50:19):
Team, right, Yeah, And it's almost impossible to win a
national championship six games in a row with only a
left side offense. And that's kind of been my biggest
question all year, is as great as Eva and Brooklyn are,
if they don't get production from the right or from
these middles, there's when you get to play great teams.
It doesn't matter how great your outsides are, you're probably
(50:39):
gonna run a roadblock. And so I think it's been
so important that they've started to get this production, not
only from Lizzy, but even from Kennedy or brook Bolto,
whoever it is that's that secondary middle. They're now giving
you six, seven, eight kills on you know, ten or
eleven swings. That has been just again, I think it's
been so important to open up the offense. And last
night against cal Poly, even the fact that Lizzie car
(51:00):
got so many sets, you didn't have to set Brooklyn
Eva very much, and that's going to be important when
you're playing again tomorrow, so you got to save their arms,
so to speak. So it's been so important as the
season has gone down and you played more of the
elite teams like the Texas and the FC tournament in
Tennessee twice and now he instill a tournament. The fact
that you've gotten to get more production from elsewhere, you
know you're what you're going to get from Brooklyn and Eva.
(51:20):
The fact that you're getting others to come along has
been so so huge for them.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
Talking to Hunter Mitchell, he covers UK volleyball for Vbadrenaline
dot com and has his own website. Right, I'm sorry,
did it, has his own podcast along with Leah Edmund,
the UK All American.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
We'll come back and talk.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
More volleyball on the other side of the break as
the Wildcats take ame at the Elite eight coming up tomorrow.
You're on six thirty WLAP Welcome back. We're talking but
Hunter Mitchell, he covers the volleyball cast for Vbadrenaline dot com.
Anchor's a podcast called court Side with.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
The Cats with Leah Edmund.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
And you use the word plateau And it's funny you
said that because sitting next.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
To Larry Vall, we talked volleyball all.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
Day yesterday and I admitted to Larry that I thought
the team this is quite the coincidence that I thought
the team is plateaued. And I said to myself a
while back.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
They're good.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
I don't know how much better they can get. Can
they get much better? But Lizzy Carr, we talked about her,
Asia Thigpen, brook Baltima, Kennedy Washington, Jordan Dale. I mean,
you got kids coming off the bench, kids in the
lineup still and yet finding ways to contribute when other
teams are ganging up on Brooklyn Delay and Eva Hudson, right.
Speaker 4 (52:34):
Even Trinity Ward who's coming all of a sudden from
behind the service line, and I mean against cal Poly
last night, she was she served the most on the team.
They scored the most points behind her service Like, even
what she has come in all of a sudden and
given them just in that little small serving sub role.
They really they've just gotten so much production from other places,
you know, Like I said, you know what you're going
(52:55):
to get from Brooklyn Eva. So it just becomes can
you find other ways to score behind the fetter or
in the middle, even Kathie if she can get offensive, like,
can you just find more ways to keep the block
honest and not let them cheat towards Brooklyn Eva because
they were doing that and the kind of the meat
of the schedule Kentucky was obviously still winning, they went
undefeated and sec played, but like you were seeing more
of those like four setters against for example, Auburn or
(53:17):
the five setter against Oklahoma, Like you were seeing some
more struggles. I think because Kentucky was starting to get
not one dimensional, but just a lot of their offense
coming so much from Brooklyn and Eva and not getting
enough consistency from other places. You just need one of them.
I mean, that's the thing about Brooklyn Eva. They're because
they're so good, you just need one more in each
(53:38):
match to come along and be efficient, and it's the
other two give you even like blad numbers, it's enough
to win because you're getting so much from Eva and Brooklyn.
So you're not asking Asia or Lizzie or Kennedy to
go off and get you sixteen kills in a three
said match. If they can give you eight all of
a sudden, that totally changes the way the block defends you.
And then Brooklyn and Eva can get you twenty on
(53:59):
a more efficient clip, So you're really not asking for
a huge number from these. That's the joy of having
two outside through as talented, and I think as Kentucky
has gone on the season, they've finally gotten that for
more and it's totally changed the way they've looked.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
Trinity Ward ad three aces, as you know. But speaking
of death, Kennedy Washington, Jordan Daily and Cassie O'Brien the
center had three kills along with three block totals, five
digs thirty one assists. But those three Washington, Dally O'Brien
among them, thirteen kills in twenty two swings, one error.
(54:36):
That's the biggest reason, I think, And of course Eva
Hudson in nine kills, zero errors. Lizzie had eleven kills,
one error. Kentucky hits four to nineteen for the match
and Owes a good cow Pally team to one fourteen. Now,
some of that skewed by that third set twenty five
to seven.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
Yeah, and Craig Skinner made that sound like it was,
you know, the Unicorn of NCA tournament sets, and in
a way it was.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
But it also illustrates just how well Kentucky is executing
as a team right now, which is pretty much what
you've been saying.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
Yeah, well, and when you have a player like Eva
Hudson on the team, you know, like we all kind
of knew, like when they went in this tournament, pretty
unlikely that she's gonna literally physically allow this team to
get upset in the dumb way, you know what I mean. Like,
if they're gonna lose, it's gonna because another team just
played really well. She's one of those players that like
isn't going to allow her team to come out flat
or not focused. That's just not the kind of player
she is. And so even though cal Poly presented a
(55:34):
unique challenge, I actually think the challenge they presented was
probably pretty a good kind of opener for what Creighton
might give them tomorrow. You know, you knew that they
were going to come in and take care of business,
at least from their side of the net. And as
long as they did that, you liked their chances against
cal Poly. And the more they've been, you know, continue
to add this depth going on, I really think it's
been incredibly important for them, and it's going to be
important tomorrow against Crayton because Creighton is really really good.
(55:57):
I don't know how much people watch volleyball around here
are out there in you know, Omaha, but like Creighton's
a very talented team.
Speaker 1 (56:04):
Oh yeah, yeah, I talked to Kathy de Boor, my
former broadcast partner after the match yesterday, and she said,
just what you said, Creighton can do everything well all
facets of the game. So yeah, I mean Kentucky is
going to have to get back to And it played
so well yesterday, but the way it was tested against Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma,
(56:26):
I mean, yeah, you're right, but I want to get
back to another element.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
And you talked about Trinity War, you talked.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
About Bretherwiz and they're serving and cal Poly's coach basically
for all the great things that these hitters have been
doing on the pins and on the net, she talked
about the serving of Kentucky that really triggered the problems
for cal Poly. And I got one of the players
you were there, to describe what the problem was like
(56:53):
for them, and they just said, placing the serve where
we didn't expect, or in different alleys or angles. And
you know, I don't know that she Kentucky serve any better?
Have you?
Speaker 13 (57:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (57:04):
Not really? I mean, and Craig talked about that about
that last night, like just about not so much. I mean,
obviously you want a quality serve in but more about
where are we putting the ball and or are being
strategic with whatere we're putting it right, Like he talks
a lot about he loves that line one to one serve.
So if you're not going to go well, that's like
the right back surf, so serving right back to right back.
And yeah, it just it's because of the pass where
(57:27):
it's coming from. It's a blind pass to your setter.
I mean the ball is coming over her head to
her hands. She's not able to turn on a look
at it. So just little stuff like that that can
give your defense even I don't know, maybe a three
percent better chance of being able to set the block
because your your center doesn't have an easy way to
see the ball coming at them. Like, little stuff like
that is what this team is really focused on, is
they've gone further into the season, and again I think
(57:49):
that goes back to that competitive maturity that I think
Eva has brought to this team of challenging herself but
also the entire coaching staff and all the players of
you know, how can we find little ways to get
ourselves one percent better on a match by match basis,
And that I think has been a big area of
improvement because early in the year they were a good
serving team, but they weren't by any means, Like you
didn't look at Kentucky and think like, oh, they're beating
(58:11):
you because of their serve It was because they were
just getting overpowered with Brooklyn and Eva. Now like in
matches like cal Poly, Like, I think that game was
really one and loss because Kentucky made them so uncomfortable
behind the service line. And when you're playing a team
like Creyighton tomorrow, who has Caro, Ryan Hart and Ava Martin,
who are both just drafted in the top ten of
the MLV, you're going to have to have more of
that to be the team that has talent like that.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Yeah, well that brings me to my last question.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
If you are trying to look ahead at how Creighton
will prepare, and again you're a coach still waiting to
coach at the college level, but what do you think
Creighton is going to do? What are they going to
try to do in here against the Wildcats? How will
they prepare?
Speaker 4 (58:54):
Well, if you're a Kentucky fan, I need to get
used to the name Ama Martin. She is one of
the best outsides in the country. She's on at a
Player of the Year watch list, she had the semifinal list,
Like she is a senior who has been playing this
way since she was a freshman. She's played six rotation
outsides for Creighton all four years. Is just a dynamic
pinhitter who reminds me Dick a lot of Brooklyn and
Eva in terms of you can give her a ball
(59:16):
that has no business being a killed because it's such
a bad set, and she'll no way to make it
a kill. Like those are the best kind of outsides
and they're the hardest ones to defend. The good news
that Liam mentioned on the podcast last night is that
Kentucky has had to defend two of those in practice
all year long, right, Like you're always having to defend
against if you're the back row, either Brooklyn or Eva
when you're scrimmaging in practice, so you're at least used
(59:38):
to that to a degree. But you're gonna be playing
against the Creighton team that has a lot of talent
and knows how to do that. And then a middle
of Kiera Reinhart, who was drafted eighth overall out of Creighton,
so a middle who also can put the ball down
as a senior has been playing for a long time
and has experience, So you're gonna have to serve tough,
not only to keep Ava off balance, but to try
and take Kiara out of the offense altogether, because, as
(59:58):
you know, if you served tough enough, the middle can't
even get set. So I think this one again is
going to come out of service pressure. Both Creighton's going
to try and serve Kentucky off the floor and the
Cats are going to try and do it back to him.
I think the game is going to be won and
lost from that part of the floor.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Well, the good news is that Kentucky has played teams
with multiple weapons already in Nebraska and Texas Ucla. Uh,
but UCLA didn't serve and receive nearly as well, right
as this Creighton team. Well, it's gonna be fun, it's
going to be interesting, and Hunter Mitchell will be there
to cover it for vb Adrenaline dot Com and his
(01:00:32):
podcast court Side with the Cats with Leah Edmond, and
you drop that on Mondays or Tuesdays.
Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
We actually dropped one today because we're previewings with the
Creighton Mats. So if you haven't subscribed biball A Drenaline
you can go check out the one we recorded last
night against cal Poly.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
Sounds good to me. Hey, thanks brother, We'll see you
at the coliseum, yes, sir, see guys.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Then up next, Billy Rutledge makes his NFL Picks on
six thirty WLAP Billy three two one, Welcome back to
the Big on Saturday. This Friday, we finally got another
Friday show for a while, we've been preempted by basketball,
but that means the much awaited Billy Rutledge NFL Picks
segment is back on the air. Mister Rutledge, we made
our picks with each other last week just for the record,
(01:01:15):
so we would have them in the overall numbers, and
we split. We were both three and three. We disagreed
on a couple of games. We each lost those or
won those. So not a bad week three and three,
but we need to We need to improve on that,
don't we. And but I I let me start off
by saying last night's Bucks Falcons game, I felt so
bad for you man. That was that had to be painful.
(01:01:36):
With the great cream Sickle uniforms.
Speaker 13 (01:01:40):
Yeah, we got to stop wearing those, Dick. I know
the record in those creamsicles is not good. But we've
got to pick some winners here because I've got to
rebound after that game. I mean they were up fourteen
with like eight minutes, and I mean Atlanta didn't even
get either of their two point conversions and had nineteen penalties.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
It was.
Speaker 13 (01:01:57):
It was a loss, unlike any of them.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Yeah, and by the way, al Michaels on the broadcast
liked the cream sickles. He got a run cut of
ice cream, popsicles or whatever. But here's what al Michaels
had to say.
Speaker 11 (01:02:08):
I haven't talked about these uniforms. You know, you got
to throw back uniform I love this. This is what
they're wearing tonight. These are the original popsicle cream uniforms
that they wore back in their first season. They wanted
it to be emblematic with Florida and the sunshine and
the oranges and the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
I love it me too, So al Michaels liked him, Billy.
But yeah, if you're losing in those unis, they got
to go. Although they I think among the throwbacks they
are the best uniforms. But oh yeah, yeah, let us
move on to Week fifteen. We're still gonna pick six games,
even though we always picked the Bucks in the Packers.
But the Bucks have already played. So let's start off
(01:02:48):
with the Bengals. They're at home, They've got the Ravens
coming in, and Joe Burrow lost the game last week.
He should have won with the Bengals lost it. But
Burrow has been really good at the Helm. But Lamar
Jackson and almost always plays well in Cincinnati, Billy Bengals
are getting two and a half at home.
Speaker 13 (01:03:06):
What do you say, Yeah, Baltimore seems broken right now.
And it's not because Lamar isn't healthy. I feel like
he's come back and looked good health wise, but just
making bad throws and bad decisions, and you know, they
don't hand the ball off Derreck Henry enough. It seems
like at times, you know, they lost to Pittsburgh in
a game that they really needed to win last week. Meanwhile,
Cincinnati man Joe Burrow and his comments, you know, kind
(01:03:29):
of being reflective this week really made a lot of headlines.
Jamar Chase was like, I thought that was Ai. I
didn't even think that was Joe Burrow actually saying that
I'm on Cincinnati here. You're right, they should have beat
the Bills on the road in the snow last week.
When Joe Burrow's at the Helm, it's just a different team.
And despite Baltimore not being too bad on defense in
(01:03:50):
this later half of the year, this in Cincinnati divisional
games are close, I'm going to go with the Bengals here.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
Well, I'm torn, my heart, says Bengals.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
But Lamar Jackson, and to your point, in his last
four games, one touchdown, four picks. But in Cincinnati, Billy,
he's four and oh his last four times, and he's
thrown fifteen touchdowns against one pick. Burrow will play well,
I feel, but I don't think the Bengals defense will
play well. Cincinnati's own five against the spread when it's
(01:04:23):
either a three point dog or a three point favorite,
it's two and a half. I'm going to play with
the book here. I'm gonna go analytics and I'm going
to take the Ravens. Big game for Kansas City at
home with the Chargers. Chiefs Billy are giving five and
a half. Chargers are getting five and a half granted
on the road. Tough place to play if you're a
(01:04:45):
Southern California team in Kansas City this time of year.
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
What do you think?
Speaker 13 (01:04:49):
Yeah, I think Kansas City bounced back on this one.
You know, the Chiefs are dead according to everybody, they
officially will not may win the division, which is the
first time in nine years, I believe. So everybody's down
on the Chiefs, but this is the NFL. I think
they'll have a bounce back game here, even as they
try to fight for a playoff spot, which seems unlikely.
The Chargers are an up and down team. They really are,
(01:05:11):
and they took advantage of beating another up and down
team in the Eagles last week twenty two to nineteen.
You know, Justin Herbert returning from that hand injury looks good,
but that is still a beat up defensive or offensive line.
I think Chris Jones could have a really big game
in this one. I think people, maybe the public would
go all in on Los Angeles here, I'm going the
other way. I'm going Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
You're laying five and a half. You're good with that?
Speaker 13 (01:05:35):
Yeah, No, I'm good with it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
I will push back again.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
Chargers have covered their last three point taken against the Eagles.
They're a mess, but Kansas City is one in six.
That's staggering. In one possession games this year. That's last
in the NFL, whereas last year they were eleven and zero,
and that much has been made of that. I think
Kansas City wins this game, but I think five and
a half is too much. Intriguing game in the East,
(01:06:02):
Buffalo at New England. This could be a good old
snow game. And this is Josh Allen against May, the
young QB for New England, which is at home. New
England is getting a point and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
What do you think.
Speaker 13 (01:06:16):
We've got clinching scenarios in this one, Dick? I think
if New England wins, they will win the AFC East,
which has been an incredible year for them, Mike Rabell
taking over, Drake May being an MVP candidate despite not
throwing for three hundred yards yet in a game this year.
So I'm really looking forward to this game. I mean,
let's see how good New England is. I mean, this
(01:06:36):
is how they match up versus Buffalo is really what
defines their season for me. What'd you say the line
was on this one?
Speaker 1 (01:06:41):
One and a half at home, New England's getting one
and a half.
Speaker 13 (01:06:45):
Yeah, okay, I think I'm gonna go New England here.
I think Josh Allen has played a lot better as
of late. You know that comeback victory versus Cincinnati. You
were pretty tough on Cincinnati's defense there and rightly so,
and that definitely allowed Josh Allen and the Bills to
come back up on the Steelers a week before. They've
really turned it around, even though they lost to the
(01:07:05):
Texans two weeks prior. But I am going to go
New England. This is in Foxborough. This seems like a
regime change. I think this is a very like a
you know, you kind of look at it as Josh
Allen and the Bills have an opportunity to step up
with in the city flailing. And it's a year where
New England dominates. And so give me the Patriots at home.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
And I'm torn on this because I do believe New
England has done a great job of beating up on
the have nots in the NFL. But that's what good
teams do. And we know Buffalo is playing much better. However,
past three divisional games, Buffalo owned three against the spread.
New England is three and oh in division. So I
(01:07:46):
will go with the numbers and I will go with
New England. I wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo kicks one
at the end to win it, and I hope it does,
but the numbers say New England, so I'm with you
on this one. The Panthers suddenly relevant in the NFL.
That's been a little kind of gradual against your hated
New Orleans Saints, who are at home. Billy are getting
two and a half. Carolina right now is kind of
(01:08:08):
an it team over the last month in the NFL.
I know you how much you hate the Saints. Is
that going to play up here?
Speaker 13 (01:08:17):
It is? I'm not going to take the Saints. Yeah,
I'm going Carolina here. Dave Kanalis should be praised for
the work that he's done with Bryce Young. I thought
Bryce played better at the end of the year last
year and then came out a little bit questionable to
start the year. But they've really found their footing, so
I do have to tip my cap to them, and
those Bucks Panthers games are going to be important at
(01:08:39):
the end of the year. I think Tampa is gonna
have to sweep those games now to win the division.
If Carolina does take care of business and beat the
teams like they should, like the Saints this week. You know,
I didn't hate what I saw out of Tyler Shock,
but it's almost like take it with a grain of
solid It was against Tampa back. Yes, you know that
Ben don't break defense allows for a lot of yards
(01:08:59):
to be but you know he also had two rushing touchdowns.
So I think the Saints have shown signs of life,
and they do get this one at home. But I
really like the rookie receiver that Carolina has. I really like,
you know, some like Brown on the defensive side, Derek
Brown from Auburn. He's really turned in the format. With
a few years, he's been a professional. Give me Carolina
(01:09:20):
on the road in this.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
One, Carolina laying two and a half on the road.
Tyler Shuck, believe it or not. If he wins this
game as a starter, that would give him three wins
as a rookie New Orleans QB. That would tie him
with Archie Manning for most.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Wins by rookie QB.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Wow for the Saints, but man Bryce young against New
Orleans last time they played his QBR, his quarterback rating
was fourteen point five, which is just abysmal. Now he's
got a decent QBR of late, but According to one
of the stats I read, comes primarily on third down
and even fourth, then first and second down. His QUB
(01:10:00):
not great, but it's not been against New Orleans, so
I do like the fact. I do think he'll be
better against the Saints. Now, the Panthers have lost Billy
eleven straight as outright favorites. That's the longest in the
Super Bowl era. But I think all things being equal,
I'm going with you on Carolina. I'm still mad that
(01:10:21):
they beat my Packers, but you got to tip your
cap to him on that one.
Speaker 13 (01:10:24):
This is going to be amats to that well, because
that is illuminating.
Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
All it does is confuse me sometimes though, although as
you you've known me for a long time, doesn't take
much to confuse me.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
In Seattle, where it's supposed to be raining, the Colts,
an indoor team, will be playing against the Seahawks, and
they're laying against those Indianapolis Rivers thirteen and a half, Billy,
Is that too much?
Speaker 10 (01:10:51):
Wow?
Speaker 13 (01:10:52):
It is. I was really prepared to pick Indy here,
but I can't pick thirteen and a half. I mean
Riley Leonard, Philip Rivers, Philip Rivers kids, whoever plays quarterback
in this one. Indianapolis is a good team. They're going
to show some resiliency here. I am worried about a
good Seattle defense at home playing against a team that
doesn't have a quarterback. But I am here to say
(01:11:14):
that Indy is going to keep that within at least
two touchdowns. Will they win the game? Probably not. And
it's been a kind of disaster. I mean, they went
all in, traded two first round picks for Sauce Gardner,
who got hurt maybe like two games later, and now
they don't even have a quarterback. So you know, I think,
like if Philip Rivers plays, I think there's a lot
of money to be made on some of his props.
(01:11:35):
I think it was like only around one hundred and
ten when it comes to passing yards, So just keep
an eye on that as we get closer to Sunday.
But call me crazy, I think I'm taking Indy here.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
I can't say you're crazy, because thirteen and a half
is a lot of points. But I'm going to take
Seattle because, for one thing, they don't have Sauce Gardner,
they don't have Travarious War, they don't have one of
their best d tackles.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
True, the last five games.
Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
They have given up twenty five points a game, Billy,
that's twenty sixth in the league. And again, it's gonna
be a rain game, so I don't know that there
will be.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
A lot of points, but I just.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
Think that's that's a crippled defense for Indy. Phillip rivers aside,
and now he's gonna be facing a Seattle defense which
is given up the second fewest points and it is
number two in QB pressures in the league. So there's
gonna be a lot on that Indianapolis o line. Maybe
a late touchdown Seattle covers. That may be too many points,
but I'm just gonna go with circumstance and i will
(01:12:34):
take Seattle. Finally, my beloved Packers are in Denver. Green
Bay is giving two and a half, So Denver is
a home dog in this one. The Broncos getting two
and a half from the Packers.
Speaker 13 (01:12:46):
Yeah, this is this is interesting because Denver is just
I have counted them out and they keep winning. Credit
to Sean Payton. Credit the bow Nicks, even though I
don't know how good of a quarterback he is. I'm
all in on green Bay on this one, Dick. I mean,
I'm gonna be a hater until the rest of the year.
I think you know Green Bay has lost to Cleveland
this year. That was pretty early on in the year.
(01:13:07):
Jordan Loves during Toyota than do you know these stats
stick toyotath On is from like mid November to the
first week of January, and over the past three years,
Jordan Love has thrown in the ballpark of thirty three
touchdowns and three interception during this window. So it is
toyotath On and the good on whoever marketed this stat
(01:13:29):
because it had to be a Toyota employee that's gotten
these numbers out. But I cannot bet against Jordan Love
during this time, and that green Bay defense seems to
be getting a little better too. You could say Chicago
could have tied it at the end they had a
man open, but got to give them credit for winning
that game. Anyway, give me green Bay on the road here.
Where are you at here, mister Packer.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Well, obviously, my heart, says Packer. I've been going with
numbers tonight. Denver is in the fourth quarter in terms
of points scored plus fifty and the point and differential,
So that's gonna put a lot of pressure on my Packers.
When it comes to defense, Denver is number one in
(01:14:08):
the league with fifty five sacks. That's number one by
eleven over its nearest competitor, three and one against the
spread of late as three and one gets the spread
as home dogs, and you know how much I like
home dogs. And here's the other one you talk about,
the O line. Denver has the numbers one, three, and
(01:14:32):
five defensive players in the league and quarterback hits. Okay,
but you have turned me around. There's going to be
pressure on the Packers O line, but you have turned
me around with the toyota than analytic, and I thank
you for that. So I will take the Packers lay
two and a half. We might win it, but there
could be a few goals in the air to decide it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
But I'm with you again on Jordan Love. I don't
know why, but you.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Know he has been money late in the year and
he is playing his best.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
Football right now.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
For a while there, I was wobbling when it came
to am I still on the Jordan Love hype train
or not? And I'm back on You'll be pleased to
know right now. But I think that could be the
best game of the day, although there are gonna be
the weather games in Seattle and New England and the
Ravens Bengals is always, So this is gonna be a
great weekend, isn't it.
Speaker 13 (01:15:22):
Yeah, Well, you know everybody's nobody's not a buy anymore. Yeah,
And you know next week we get Saturday games, so
you probably won't have as big of a stretch of
games or a slate of games like this again all year.
So let's enjoy another lazy Sunday before I let you go, give.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Me a prediction.
Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
And you may have already done this for forgive me
on your show if I haven't heard it on Kentucky Indiana.
Speaker 13 (01:15:44):
Oh yeah, you may not like this.
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Oh I think I know what you're gonna say.
Speaker 13 (01:15:49):
Yeah, I'm gonna take Indiana. I haven't seen a line yet,
but I just I've got to see Kentucky compete against
one of these better teams before I can pick them
to win. Now, North Carolina was a close game, but
that was North Carolina was out there without their starting
point guard. Kentucky just kind of allowed North Carolina to
stay in that game, stay in that game, stay in
that game until late, So I've really got to see
(01:16:11):
them take care of business against one of these better
teams before I can ever predict predict them to win.
But like Lamar Wilkerson hitting ten to three years in
the game before and them having one hundred points with
five minutes left against Penn State is just, I mean,
just seems like a recipe for disaster for a team
that doesn't have a stretch forward, that is not shooting
at the same rate as they were last year. And
you know, let's hope Modia Basee can play in this
(01:16:32):
game and bring a little physicality because they're going to
have to. Really I think, you know, showed some toughness
early on in this game if they're going to want
to stay in it.
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
I feel better about their chances having listened to Jack Gibbons,
who was on the show earlier, and Jack has been
at practice and assures me you will not see the
lethargic Wildcats that we saw in Nashville, all though, as
I've said all week, you know that to me was
just about frustration with shots not going in.
Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
And he also told me that the mark no anger we.
Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
Saw on the sidelines and the emotional display. Jack said
he sees that every day in practice, and Jack goes
to practice all the time, as you know. So I
feel better about what we will see from Kentucky tomorrow night.
But I think they're gonna be dogs in their own building.
They'll be underdogs I would think, or should be in
their own building. But yeah, we could go down to
(01:17:22):
the last four minutes after the last TV timeout, what happens.
I will be at volleyball. I hope to get over
to basketball. It's a great time to be a volleyball
fan and to be a person covering volleyball. So I
do appreciate your time, sir, and we will chat again
next week.
Speaker 13 (01:17:37):
Have a good weekend, Dick, and we will wrap.
Speaker 1 (01:17:39):
Things up on the other side of the break here
on six thirty WLAP Welcome back, final segment of our show.
Just a quick one here, time only to say thank
you to Jack Gibbons, to Billy Rutledge, and to Hunter Mitchell.
A big weekend coming up, basketball, volleyball, volleyball at five
o'clock on ESPN two. I will be there and we'll
try to go over to basketball for Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Indiana.
Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
Seven thirty will have that one for you right here
on six thirty WLAP and of course it's on TV
with Charles Barkley and Dick Ytal calling the action, sharing
the color commentary duties that ought to be entertaining.
Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
But keep your radio handy. I always do. But I
wanted to leave you with.
Speaker 1 (01:18:17):
An interesting story that popped up on the interweb. One
of my fellow sidelines reporters and I don't know this
guy who is the sidelines reporter for the Tennessee Titans
radio network and travels with the team, and of course
I travel with the UK football team, but he has
been suspended removed from team charter flights because he shared
(01:18:39):
a story on the air about something that quarterback cam
Ward said he overheard it on the team plane.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
The guy's name is will Bowling. He has since.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Apologized, but it brought to light the fact that this
is the way I treat it, and this is the
way he is expected to treat it. And he has
subsequently said he should have everything you encounter if you're
traveling with a team.
Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
At least. My philosophy isn't it should be is off
the record.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
I heard and seen a lot of things through the
years that are really interesting that I've never shared because
in that situation, you're giving you the opportunity and really
the privilege of traveling with the team, and ethically, everything
you encountered there should be off the record. If you
want to use it, you can go to somebody later
said do you mind if I say this?
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
He didn't do that, and you know what, he's off.
Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
The flights although he has, as I said, apologize, they're
good for him.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Lesson learned that's it. Good night from the garage and Lexington.
Speaker 10 (01:19:35):
I didn't think you had it in you.
Speaker 14 (01:19:38):
I'm your Huncleberra. Why Johnny Ringo looked like somebody just
walked over your grave.
Speaker 12 (01:20:00):
That's out such shot that tag tag anything, don't do anything,
(01:20:44):
do anything? Sat out such stacks from tape donating to
(01:21:36):
the
