Speaker 2 (03:25):
Well, good morning everyone. Then we are ready telling me
Kentucky Training Center on the Parish Lessington Road, and Nicholson
has it's his turn.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
It works better if you use the microphone.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Wow, we're using this. We're using this.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
I forgot for God's sake.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Can I go home now? But I'm looking at you
just talking to one.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Oh well sorry microphone. Yeah, I hope that my work
was a cyclophone because a flight mix up, little technical difficulties.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So we're using this on Jackie's telephone. You know, you
know they don't have your ears things going you're hearing
it because sometimes they interfere with us.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I couldn't wear them with my phone. My hearing aids
connect with my phone. Really yeah, and if I've got
them on or they're anywhere close, nobody can hear the phone.
That me blah blahh okay, And that's so interesting.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I hate her hearing age. I don't know what the
hell goes on. I pulled in the garage before, and
you know, have the radio on. All of a sudden,
I've got her on telephone on the radio. I said,
what in the world is this? Yeah, that's interesting. Last
week ago, I had my old hearing aids. Yeah, they
(04:53):
can't spit out a bit. I had them for four years.
I've here have been five. You we know one of
they die anyway. Now I've got new ones. I went
out and Uncle Sam gave me another new.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well what a nice what a nice Uncle Sam?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Oh I think so?
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, so just had such a good time in Korea.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Well, Uncle Sam, appreciate your service. And uh, that's what
the doctor out there. Didn't say that, but he says,
I said. He says, you know these are free, and
I says, you know, I've spent about eight or ten
months in career winning these damn things. That's right, that's right.
You deserve both of them.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I think I got to tell you the funniest though,
why have you had them about a week or a
week and a half, right, And so we've got these
little charge up places that are sitting on the table,
mine and his. They both charged me. So I was
walking Patsy's head. I've lost my hearing, aids. I don't
know where they are. What am I going it do?
(05:58):
And he was looking at it thing. He had him
in his ears.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
So that was I couldn't see him. That's right, that's right.
And I'm sure our sol the light of the Jackie
telling that story.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, exactly, I love it. I saved those kind of things. Oh,
by the way, when you were here last week, you know,
we were talking about how nice. It looked down the
you know, old friends looked really nice. So Betsy and
I went out to c Major and then we drove
over to the other place for hunches shoulder right on
(06:32):
like every to the main place. Yeah, and I drove
up in there, and Betsy wanted to see little silver
charm and big silver charms. So we went around. You know,
she's got a wheelchair. We can't walk. So I drove
around the up and we were talking. All of a
sudden they were people looking at us. Funny, you know,
(06:55):
it's you know, and I said.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
Hi, it's Jackie here.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Fine, she said with a hecker you look on her face,
and she said, the tours coming this way. I said, oh,
I'm sorry, and I backed out started to go out.
There were one or two other people down there looking
waiting for me. I said, oh, and I mentioned your name,
and then everything was fine. I would apologize because you
(07:23):
had said and it does look wonderful, and but I
didn't think about anything other than going on.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Well, you're part of the family, so you're you're you're welcome.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Family want me or not?
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, well we want you.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Thank you, but I want They were losten. Nobody's going
to get in there without them seeing it.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Well, we we honestly do. We've got a great staff
and a great team of volunteers. But you know, they
have that sense of ownership, you know that. And I
told him, I said, you know, treat it like it's
you know, this as your own. But well I didn't have.
Speaker 7 (08:01):
To tell them.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
They do.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
They do that anyway. Yeah, but the tours have been great.
We had Deloitte, this big accounting firm, had their their
annual service day. Lawyers, yeah, lawyers and accountants and they
do everything. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, they do a little
bit of everything as a matter that well. So first
(08:22):
of all, they had their service day, and twenty or so,
maybe a couple dozen of these very you know, very polished,
high tech executives, you know, high tome and executives were
out there painting the fences and digging up the weeds
and gardening and planting flowers and having a great, great time.
(08:43):
And meanwhile, they learned a lot about horses.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
All.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
They learned a lot about racing, you know. These I
had this one lady, she had been she was a
new employee, new to Kentucky, and she had been the
chief of staff to the governor of Rhode Island. So
she was a you know, muckety muck and there she
was painting a fence, first offence she had ever painted
in her life. And I, you know, introduced myself, thanked her,
(09:10):
and she said, now who is this this horse? And
I said, well, his name is Silver Charm and oldest
can live in Kentucky every winter. And she just got
wide on, you know, and it was it's just fun.
And we probably have a lot of plaques of people
who have contributed over the years, and we put them
(09:32):
on the fences and over the years they got a
little you know, weathered, and so we polished.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Them and everything.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
It's just kind of it's kind of cool. Then also
this week, this has been a fun week. We have
the horse Shoeing School of Kentucky horse Shoeings, well Mitch
Taylor's group, the students who come out every few weeks
and trim all of the horses and that it is
so it's just great to watch because the instructors come
(09:59):
out with them and and you know, our most of
our horses aren't shod, they're you know, they're trim. But
but we've got a handful that have these new rough
well I don't know how new they are, but they're
new kind of to me that they are glue on
rubber type shoes, and man, it makes all the difference
(10:20):
in the world.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
You just don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Just getting a pair of shoes will make a horse.
These horses just look better and feel better. The two
leading examples of those are Little Silver Charm and Silver Charms,
Little Shoe Itty Bitty.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Itty bitty will bitty.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
And he and he's you.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Know, I think that horse, that little wels he's a
little Welsh pony. He's got to be one hundred years
old now, I mean he's nobody really knows. Michael got
him out of a out of a kill pin, right,
you know, before he moved to Kentucky, and he was
the little guy was old then. And but he, I
mean he looks he looks great, and he kind of
(11:00):
bounces around on his little booty shoes and.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Taking notice of that new stomach little bitty's shoes on them.
Is there school don in.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Shelbyville, Yeah, somewhere. I'm sixty four that area. And I
got to know Mitch, who I have great respect for
with that horse shoeing school, because we did every We
did everything we possibly could get that horse shooting school
at the horse Park, and we ran into one thing
after another where it couldn't be done. But we had
(11:31):
a very good relationship with him and they used to
do the same thing in the early days that the
horse park would bring the students out. And it's a
great education for the students. And I'll tell you these
instructors are are no nonsense and they they're instructing those
and I'm going to say kids are not all kids,
(11:53):
but instructing the students very closely. So he noticed this
horse has got this. He noticed that, you know, uh,
and and they keep a close eye on it. But
there's a you know, a bunch of students and they
and they go through the farm pretty quick and uh
then they'll go over to our Winding Oaks farm, then
(12:14):
to the ash and grow farm and into the Hillcrest
farm and by the end of the by the end
of all that, they have done two hundred and fifty horses.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
And the better they get.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yeah, So we've had just a big week the other
We've had a lot of fun this week with our
old old deer Deer Missus Pastures who who we love
and the Missus Pastor's cookie treats. As we've said, it's
the currency of old friends. It's what we trade, you know,
and it's it's like crack cocaine to those horses. They
(12:49):
love that Missus Pastors. Michael always said that you you know,
you wouldn't ever have to drug drug a horse.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
Just tell them.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Tell the horse's going to get Missus Pastors and hold,
you know, still run.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
But we did.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Our social media is really getting clever and fun. We
got We've got a few people on staff who really
know how to how to film things on their phone
and make them Well, this was the week that the
Missus Pastors truck came and they did a really fun
thing on all the horses. Remember remember the music Man
(13:22):
when the Wells Fargo wagon came in, Well, it was
kind of like the miss and my favorite movie. Yeah,
it's a great Robert Preston and that was you know,
every that's it. And how excited the people were when
the Wells Fargo wagon came to town. Well it's the
horses were just as excited that the Missus Pastor's truck
(13:42):
was coming was coming in and we're, you know, the
president of all Tech who to see the doctor Lyons
Mark lines and Missus Pastor's an all tech brand and
he said it is.
Speaker 7 (13:59):
Yeah, it is owned by Tech.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Oh, I didn't know that.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
And he you know, he's an international businessman. They got
offices in eighty countries around the world. And he gives
us like a state of the company address over the
airwaves every Wednesday, and he said, does He noted that
Michael Blowing of Old Friends mentioned Missus Pastures on the
(14:25):
Kentucky Derby social media platform, and he said, the three
mentions of Missus Pastures that Michael Blowing gave was worth
two hundred and fifty thousand dollars of advertising for our
Missus Pastures, you know. And I don't think not everybody
in al Tech even knew that Missus Pastures was, you know,
(14:45):
one of their companies. So we're going to do a
lot more with Missus Pastures. They come out with a
new flavor, banana flavored Missus Pastures, and I got we
got to like the early edition of the banana flavored
Missus Pastures, and so I took them out kind of
as a survey to the horses. And I'm telling you
(15:08):
this is the truth. The guildings loved them, and the
mayors loved them. The Stallions couldn't, couldn't they the older
the Stallions, the tough guys that nod in like those bananas.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
And it's funny.
Speaker 7 (15:25):
I'll have it both.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
I'll have another and Big Brown, who are both hearty
consumers of carrots and whatever treats they and and they're
kind of demanding their you know, I want you. You're
here to give me my treats, and I'm ready you
give me my treats.
Speaker 7 (15:41):
Well.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
As soon as I gave them the banana, both both
of them did the same thing. They chewed once, they
looked at me, and they spit them out. So that's
my report back to Missus Pastures that the you know, yeah,
the common whole, you know, the regular horses love it,
(16:02):
but the royalty, you know, they're they're too snobby.
Speaker 7 (16:05):
That like the leave.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Tractor Supply handsome, yes, yes, yes. And Bessie and I
on our way over forgot to go by and get
another bag. So we went on over to Tractor Supply
in Georgetown. Yeah, they had the regular in a small
bag and apple in the big bag. So we got
(16:31):
a big bag apple and then Sunday, we'll go to
the other place, because they really liked the potato.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
That sweet potato potato. Yeah, that was the other one
we tried and that did get that got universal acclaim
at Old Friends.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Bag of.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Pastures out of the car, y'all want a treat.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Well, it's funny that you mentioned that, because we our
tour guides will people say, well, what's in this, missus
pastors so and ever? It's molasses and oats and this,
you know everything in there is it's organic, and and
the tour guys would say, you know, you could eat
this yourself and be perfectly fine. Well, we had a
tour group this a week before last of a bunch
(17:16):
of guys who I think we're coming to Kentucky that
we're going to do, uh, I think the Bourbon distillery thing.
And they had been to the distillery before for the
free tasting and they and then I think they bought
some product and we were consuming it on the bus
fun and and and damn if they didn't start eating
the cookies. You know, boy said, we really didn't mean
(17:41):
for you to actually eat them, but I guess you could.
And they all were all were seemed to be fine,
so you know, but we're not We are not recommending
that you eat the Missus Pastors, but.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
You could you should.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Years ago went all ticks of a friend of ours
at Blackness, Fanny Fana Hand McGrath, and he said, you
don't realize who this guy is. He's a big deal.
He's got all kind of stuff going speed and that's a.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
M mccaulay's I'm mccaullege.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Yeah, I mean he's a big deal. And I sort
of put it, you know, in my head, and that
man he is a big deal. He's got something going
all the time and he improves stuff. But Missus Pastors
and all that.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
But they buy a lot of brands, you know. There
was the doctor Lyons, doctor Pierce Lynes, and sadly he
passed away in twenty I think twenty eighteen, and his son,
doctor Mark Lynes, is the International CEO. And I will
on a personal note doctor Lyons and Missus Lyones Deirdre
who's still very much with us. Thank god, we're dear
(18:55):
friends because we all got to know each other during
the World of Questioning game, and it was Pierce and Deirdre,
particularly Deirdre who introduced Janna and I engineered our eventual marriage,
so colonel like my brother. Well she claims to, but
(19:18):
she claims to. But but you know, since we're telling
the truth, that's really now.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
They bought Castleton.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
No, that was doctor Ryan, that was yeah, but doctor
both they're two irishmen, and doctor Pierce Lynes and Tony
Ryan were good friends, doctor doctors and two good, very
successful irishmen.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
And really, I mean really, it's amazing. We went to
a party out there and he had put in a
pub in the basement. Yeah, everybody went down because that
was fun. I mean, you know, pick step just like
a real pub.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Well built built that tower out there too, Yeah, that
I passed all the time. Yeah, and uh when I
went up there one time and there was a pub
up on the top, Oh was it really on top
of it? Yeah, that's yeah, And maybe that was just
for that night. But doctor Ryan was a colorful guy.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
He enjoyed life.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Yeah, he enjoyed life. And so far the farm that
you know, there was a wave of concern that they
were going to develop that and I don't think anything
ever came of it.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Now the signs are down and stuff. I guess that
showed up to Yeah, put the QT on that. Yeah,
that's a good thing.
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
So yeah, it's a beautiful place. And you all were
married in that church right by there, is that right?
Speaker 7 (20:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Her still grew up in that church. That's where I was.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Well, that's what and being, and that's the while you're
the good Christian man that you are.
Speaker 7 (21:07):
To this day.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Well I tried to be.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Yeah you know that church?
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Oh do you get easier?
Speaker 4 (21:13):
It's I noticed that that church, you know, wash has
been there forever and there was a and I think
I've mentioned this before, there was a skirmish in the
Civil War right there at the corner of h of
Newtown and Ironworks, and the Confederates hid behind that church.
(21:38):
And that you know that the building has been there
now burned once or right, but the Mount Horbe Church
has been in that same location. And the little the
ten year old little brother of the farm manager at
Castleton was the scout that went down Newtown to see
when the Federals were marching up, and then ran back
(21:58):
and said, here they come, and actually know they had
their skirmish. And later on the Federals came and got
that kid and put him in the Fair County jail. Yeah,
and then yeah, put in a stake. Yeah, yeah, yeah
we did.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
We got married in that church on Derby Day, didn't
we a day?
Speaker 2 (22:19):
It was on May seven?
Speaker 4 (22:21):
It was Yeah, what who was the Derby winner that year?
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I can't I didn't know, but I can't look it up.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Because, oh, eighty three. I think that's out of the
Saul who was eighty three nineteen eighty nineteen eighty three.
I think when when we were married.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I know what happened.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
You guys were supposed to know that. So neither one
of you know, so nobody's in trouble for not remember.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I looked, I couldn't remember, and she couldn't remember that
it was May seven?
Speaker 1 (22:58):
What hard spun was? Oh no, see yeah, And then
then I looked it up once and I went, oh yeah,
and immediately followed, well you were up a what's memorable
about that is you were looking really good in that
(23:19):
three hundred dollars suit. Right, Yeah, that's what he told me.
You know, I said he was going on and on
about paying three hundred dollars for a suit, and I said,
for crying out loud, you know, he said, well, I've
been married before, but I ain't never had a three
hundred dollars Sonny payload? Right there you go, and I
(23:45):
get to remember that.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Yep, Ellie Della who say, yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
There's an S in it. That's all I remember. Sonny say, Okay,
we'll try to remember that.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Okay, that's that's the way to remember your anniversary something
you've got some years. If I'm doing the math right,
like forty.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yeah, my goodness, I know he doesn't look gold enough
for that.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
No, oh, no, neither one of you do.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
So what did you say was going on today?
Speaker 7 (24:22):
Today?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
We got to I'm gonna have to bug out here
in about ten minutes or so. We have the very
wonderful people at Scott County Tourism, Lorie Saunders, who just
does an outstanding job. We are lucky in Scott County
to have somebody of that stature running our tourism and
tourism program. And they have travel writers come from time
(24:45):
to time, and you know, they write for travel magazines.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
And I'll watch you. I didn't understand, like you travel writers.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
Yeah, and you know they they write for magazines, but
in this day and age, it's blogs and podcasts and yeah,
and and then I know among the travel writers there
is uh golf golf writers that they're they're traveling the area.
So if you want to go, you know, if you're
(25:14):
if you want to go on a golf trip to Kentucky.
While you're there, you should go to Old Friends. It's
the kind of thing. And so I'm gonna going to
show them around. But we appreciate Scott County Tourism, you know,
promoting us. But we are the leading tourism attraction in
Scott County. Yeah, and one of one of the leading
in Kentucky. Well, I said, the way whiskey's going, I
(25:40):
don't know, but but it reminds me we do. We
got a wonderful news partnership with Limestone Distillery, which is
being constructed across the street from Old Friends. You've seen
you'll see the construction. And we have our silver Charm
bourbon our big brown bourbon.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
And now I'll have another bourbon and you can fight it.
You can buy it in a decanner, I mean you
can like a three three set, yeah, or individually, and so, uh,
you know that's gonna it's gonna be a really cool
place of a visitor center and the distillery and we're
gonna have some of our horses there just across the street.
(26:21):
And wonderful people Bobby Bobby Sturgeon and doctor Darren Dillo
and and uh and actually Tim Couch, the quarterback, UH
is a partner in that in that project too.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Unfortunate quarterback drafted by Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Bless his heart, Yeah, bless his heart. He's been half
as the career, running for his life. Yeah, he had
an offensive land in front of Uh. He spent a
lot of time, you're right, fleeing the defensive lineman. But uh,
but a good good guy and and and they're and
they're good people, and it's going to be a great
relationship with with old friends. We're gonna be in a
(27:00):
a couple of weeks, few weeks, we'll be selling that
bourbon in our gift shop. Really that quick yep, yeah,
oh that's certain introductive and yeah, oh yeah, we got
business here.
Speaker 2 (27:11):

million dollars. He had a oral of talent and the
pedigree to go with it. He's one of one hundred

maker win over a million, nine hundred and eighty five
thousand Silver State. Let folks know that he was something special.
Bring this maiden in his first start as a two
year old, but nine and three quarter lengths at Churchill Downs.
Then he went on to accomplish something that not many do,
(27:52):
win six in a row, the last four of them States.
The first was the win was the seventh eight win
at Keenan. Then he went to OR two one, but
nearly three. Moving to Oaklonne, he won one hundred and

the clay Ward his couple with Indian Creek Farm, a
beautiful farm where they've raised and board and sold men

And they do a great job getting your boarding new
horses and getting I'm ready for sales anything. And they
(30:02):
got great horsemen over there, and there's great they're great people.
Shack Parish is a good guy, one of the best.
And here's the best way to get in touch with
the movie with the Indian Creek. Its website is Indian
Creek kwytt dot com. So Indian Creek and the clay
Wood Agency two businesses you should know about in Paris, Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursa ellis all.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Right, we're back there, and we've got John Nicholson with us,
and somebody pulled in and put the blue car.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
There's a lot of activity. The sun's coming out and
I was raining earlier this morning, Yeah it was, but
the sun's coming out looks like it's going to be
a nice day in the seventies, so it's not going to.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Be oh yeah, yeah when a hack of a storm yesterday, Wow, yeah,
part of my road, our road got walked out, washed
out of it. I gotta get somewhere out there.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
Oh no, but yeah, gonna you can still get out
of the.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
House, obviously.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Yeah. It just I wanted to ask you about a
couple of things.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
They're not gonna be hard questions, are they anything? Okay,
you were I'm not gonna have to get my lawyer
or anything. Of course you would be my lawyer probably.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
So.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Pony Club. When did Pony Club come to the horse Park?
About when?
Speaker 2 (31:28):
That's a good.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Question, but it was in the nineties. I'm going to
say ninety five or six or eleven, pen didn't it?
Speaker 7 (31:39):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
When Bessie was in Pony Club, we went every summer
to the horse park, and I was just wondering if
it was at the end of the summer.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
They had they moved to the horse park when when
I was like the director of operations there, but they
have the offices with aa E p aa E P
then got their own building. Wanted to expand, or they expanded,
they didn't want to share anymore because they got so big,
(32:13):
and the pony clubs got their own building, and we,
you know, we had to That was always tough. We
had to get the state to approve all that and
and do all this. It was, you know, it's one
of those mortgage leases. It's not that you know, they
don't own the land, but they owned the building. The
state still owns the land. One of those kind of
least things. And then they had a very great headquarters there.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Because I was thinking, I bet they come to the
old friends.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Yeah, they do.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
And the other one I was going to ask you,
when is Brier.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Briar's coming up real soon? And because we were talking
about it, I don't I don't know the exact ding,
so we have to look that up. But we were
having our staff meeting this week and that was a topic.
We've had some Brier horses donated to us over the years,
and we said this year we're going to put them
out and for sale, because one of the busiest weeks
(33:09):
we have is our sure I mean that that thing
is a phenomenon, and I was, you know, part of
the originally came to the park in ninety two for
the first time, but it really exploded in the two
thousands where it became a you know, it's it's one
(33:31):
of Lexington's biggest hotel things.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I love that. That's great. Yeah, I just wanted to
check because you know, it's kind of a fun thing
and I know they flood o front.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
They just yeah, and we go out there and we've
got to like, we'll have a booth out there and
and like I said, we're gonna we're gonna.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Be wished to do T shirts and sell you could
sell thousands of T shirts little girls.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Well, that's a good idea. We need you on our marketing.
Marketing July eleven through the thirteenth, So we got a
couple more weeks of July eleven through the thirteenth.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Good. That's great.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
There. You know they do they do, you know, horse
shows and you know where they the little models are,
got their legs are and bodies are repositioned. It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Yeah, it's I was out there one time during what
watching what was going on. It was just.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
We've got a couple of horses but I can't remember.
We've got a couple of horses who have been Bryer horses,
and I suspected one of them is probably silver.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
John really yeah, but but I Bessie's got Man of
War of course, Well that's valuable.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
That's one of the is it. It's not still, but
it's probably not in the box anymore, right, I.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Don't remember she's got them all over though. Yeah, you know,
I meant lots. I don't remember. I know there are
one or two that are in a box.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
It's not as much like.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Man what I yeh, I know, but it's you know,
they love it. The kids love it.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Oh, yeah, that's been That's just somebody had a great idea.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Somebody had Yeah, many.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Moons of the Leather was way back. There was another
show on in another area. Or the guy was an expert.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Yeah he's gone and he's gone hotels.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Anyway, they got to talk when somebody mentioned the brier
and he says, oh, that's a wonderful breed. Yeah, I
never have forgotten that that was expert.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
Well it is a wonderful breed in its own way.
Speaker 7 (35:57):
Right.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Shoot, So what else is coming up at old friends
like picnics.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Or the Well, we I've talked about how the wonderful
Penoaks Foundation, UH in honor of missus Abercrombie, you know,
the longtime owner of penos is our partner in UH
taking our welcome center, which is already climate controlled and
(36:26):
very nice, and taking it to a different taking it
to a new and better and exciting level. It's going
to be a icon in the in the Bluegrass. But
we're in the in the midst of planning the new
version of that building, and you mentioned picnics and things
like that. We're going to be able to do more
of that kind of thing where people can like have
(36:49):
uh their lunch out there and stuff like that. You
can just sign up on it, you know, you sign
up on your tour and you also get you know,
have them you can just make a day of it. Yeah,
and doing all kinds of enhancements and and so there's
just a there's just a real feeling of optimism and
looking forward to the future and unbelievable. Yeah, it's it's exciting.
(37:12):
It's an exciting thing.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
I remember when Michael got here, little Silver Charm lived
in the backyard and he had a little run and
shed with a pin up of some there I'm not kidding,
and then he'd come up the patio steps in the back.
It wouldn't step and come up to the I think
they had French doors in that house. And he yeah,
(37:37):
like that with its folks. He wanted something.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
He still does.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Yeah, yes, it's if you say the word ginger snaps
out loud and I hope he's not listening, because yes,
he's having a fit.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
He goes right up to Michael's back door and gets
his ginger snaps in the living room right there.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
That's so funny.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
All our guests love Michael goes through that routine and
it's funny. Yeah, it's funny. Well, I better speaking of
the farm, I've better, I'm betterr head out and uh
had that direction and entertain our new guests today.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Okay, one quick, aren't you and Michael going to Saratoga
for summers?
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Yes, for the uh Whitney, We're going out there for
the whole whole week for both of us, which is yeah,
that's pretty dangerous and so it's but it's so exciting
to witness the celebrity of Michael blowing in the streets
of Saratogy. So it's like, yeah, it's like being with
Mick Jagger or somebody.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Oh that's yeah, I love it so well, thank you
for coming.
Speaker 6 (38:41):
Absolutely looking forward to it every week and we will
we will see you next.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
Week or Michael Well. One of us wonder.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
By the last soon is Sarah. Those are one hundred
and seventy five sound a sewer and soft States was

there catalog on quillan dot com is up to date.
They stop doing paper because things change so quickly, and
they have lots of sales, and you need to pay
(41:15):
attention because you can pick up some really really nice things.
And of course right now, oh my goodness, yearling sales
all over the place, so you've got to have new
yearling halters and all that good stuff. You can't be
caught with an old halter, and not only that, soon
(41:40):
another month or two would be heaven leaning. And you
want to make sure every fold you've got is properly
identified with a full halter with pedigree on it, or
a next trap with a pedigree on it. The same
thing for those boarding mayors, because you've just had those
(42:02):
a couple of months, so I want to make sure
they're all well dressed when they go home. And that's
what Quillen's famous for. We were in Quillan's new building
downtown Paris, oh gosh, I don't know, four or five
days ago and it is really nice. You need you
(42:23):
just for the heck of it. Stop in the front.
Half across the front is a showroom. It's got all
halters and you can buy a halter off the wall
already ready to go fix different colors and all that
stuff and stuff you want to pick up for a
(42:44):
kid for a birthday or something like that. That's all
out there. And then the back is all glassed in
and that's where they make everything. And you can watch them.
You can see what they're doing, and it's amazing because
of what they're doing's gorgeous. And I'm looking here passport
(43:06):
cover belts, fancy stuff. A business credit card holder. See,
I've got one of those and it holds credit cards
on both sides, well mostly not credit cards. I don't
have one credit card anyway. I got my I got
my Kroger's card in there. Let me think my drivers anyway.
(43:30):
Check it out. Go to quillan t U I L
L I N dot com. Give them a call in
Paris A five nine nine eight seven O two one five.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
Now back to Horsetails with ursua Ellis.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
Well, then I've learned a whole lot of them in
Grave Steakes today. Uh Let's see they one the deta
oak since the historic race goes back. I think you
first one I running back in nineteen thirty eight.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
That's not that said, you know, well, that's like yesterday,
been that long ago?
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Had it? Anyway, it's got a field of nine going
into the day. Nice field, Kingsy Queen's got the rail
like a late night call. Complexity, Jane, she's by complexity,
of course, very good. Sorrow Over at air dream stood
Margine's intention parents Lily, Oh, well I want first Parish

Kentucky of Paris, France. Well he's not important, she I
should say, Cassie are finally is in there? That's another
Ashwood air drewsts, dying up starts Sarah finally Din of
Sore and uh what in the littoral? What in the
(45:03):
elite real line? I don't know what the hell it is?
Then making sense either way?
Speaker 7 (45:10):
Does it?
Speaker 2 (45:11):
See they're running there at Mama Park, they're running a
savageur mile Salvatore, Salvatore, a great horse from the back,
and it's got a field of nine. Also an a
gravity by first Samuel I over at the Cleveland Farm trademark.
Another upstart at Airdrie tusking cy Sky by the very
(45:32):
good young Sybagno Russo Wi spends with Farm awfully cool
surface to the air of vitality. Nelson Avenue is and
in the mischief it's Spenser Farm, also Ruda Mendelssohn at
Ashwood stud and Bishop Spay is on the outside by
(45:55):
the late Uncle Mole. Well, let's catch up on some
commercials here, always get by, get behind you want.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Okay now, I want to look at this real quick
while you're doing that okay trip.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Last Saturday at Saratoga, the Grade one million dollar Metropolitan
Handicap was one by Raging Tarn, the first cops on
maximum mischief Radging Tarm has one four other stakes, three graded,
among them the Grade one Malibu, and he has earned
a million, seven hundred and ninety seven four hundred dollars.
(46:31):
He's one of six twenty twenty five stakes winners, three
of them graded by maximum mischief through last weekend. The
top four third cops. How that black cat get in here.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
Jackie blind, I just walked in Okay.
Speaker 2 (46:48):
He is one of the six twenty twenty five stakes,
one of the three of them greater by maximum mischiefs
through last weekend. The top fourth cops are the top
four third cops are much for Omaha beats Maximum Mischief,
Vina Russo and Mottoli. They all stand at spenfree Fall.
The same day, the Regent Tarrant won the Grade one

Great one Woody Stevens Patch Adams, and the winner of
the Grade one Belmont States seventry seven. Tree Is also
won the Kentucky Derby, the third coke By and the
Mischief to win North America's most coveted States authentic winner
the Kentucky Derby. In that same year. The Breedership Passic
is an Asian third cup. Second the Copsy unless aided
(47:31):
by Becoma his stable made at spends Throw Farm. And
did you notice that the first stakes for two year
old of twenty twenty five the astorya over which Saratoga
was won by sam cy w the filly from the
first crop by Jumphon, who stands at Spring Trip Fall.
She she wired the field to win as quote much
the best. Jumphon won six of her eight starts. Today
(47:55):
himself won Great one stakes. He's my uncle Hoe called
dais Brian Martha Daniel two nine pools thirty ask about
a late season deal. See the website at beintricfarm dot com.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
All right, now, I want to say if you works
at our Buddy Hill Parker, he is a license realtor,
big time. He is a principal broker. He's a member
of every association you ever heard of. Graduated from UK
Business College, College of Business. Now the other part is
(48:31):
he's a license source trainer in eleven states. Years of
experience with thoroughbreds. He's got land out here that in
the back of this place, so he trains off the
training center. He's done Steph wil j thing, fox Hunters
and all that good stuff at Ben Horses. He's a
(48:52):
graduate a pony club. And if you think that's nothing,
you're crazy. Most of the Olympics are a graduates. I
mean they are a pony clubs. When you go through
pony club, you don't miss you don't have a hunk
of something that you don't know about. That's most thorough
(49:15):
bunch of stuff I ever read in my life. Okay, Now,
what you get for that is if you're looking for
a farm, or you want to sell a farm, or
you want to develop one or buy one that's you
know already developed. You need heal because he knows the
questions to ask you go out and buy something that's
(49:38):
all funny and the lands not what really it should be,
or the buildings aren't much and tear them down and
build them over, that's terrible. He knows what questions like
what's the property for you're going to stable, breed, train, sell,
you know, forever and ever? Those are Those are important,
(50:00):
Like if you're going to breed, you have to have
several double stalls for folding that kind of stuff. And
you don't know that if you haven't done it. So
what about the structure? Check the barn or barns or
the stalls big enough, they sturdy enough enough space and
the hayloft don'tglect the worage space. And if you've got
(50:24):
a real place that you're going to put roads down,
that's real important because you don't want to waste time
and money and put him in the wrong place. Bill
knows what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Yeah, no, only that is a great guy and he's
a lovely Braden Regan works with him and they work
together very closely, and they're wonderful people. I've known them
for a long long time, and I've never met a
nicer pair of young people in my life than they.
I don't guess he's so young anymore. He's got a
(50:57):
kid in college.
Speaker 1 (50:59):
I think you just graduated from college. Yeah, I think so. Oh,
I could be wrong, because we're you know, I see
him occasionally. I'm tasting.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Yeah. I can't imagine that I know the kids that old.
But there you are. Should I tell you what the
to the to the nicest people they want to meet,
great to do business with them?
Speaker 1 (51:23):
Well, and not only that, he's real enthusiastic and he
doesn't dragged in and drag out, you know, and understands
what's going on. Let's do it. Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
Walk ex some mile for you. Absolutely you have.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
Yeah, that's very good.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
So the best thing to do try to get in
touch with him is with go to his website. I
tell you it's a good one. Lexhorsefarms dot com, Lex
horse Farms dot com. Let me give this he'll sell number.
It's eighty five nine, number zero eight, zero three and nine.
(51:58):
He'll and Reagan Parker nice people.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis.
Speaker 2 (52:08):
Okay, what do you walking.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
I just wanted to know what time it was. In
a nice quiet way. All I wanted to do was Okay, I've.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
Got about nine minutes till or stuff like eight minutes
till nine eight or nine minutes. So we're putting the
shape there because that's good because I've got a couple
of commercials to do when we get there. You want
to talk about that?
Speaker 4 (52:30):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (52:31):
Yeah, this is this another good thing? Uh, twenty five years.
This is Keenland Library Lecture series. Yeah, and this is
next Wednesday, Junior eighteen, six thirty eight thirty at the
Kentland Library. And since a friend of ours has been
(52:54):
running the Kentland Library, it's doing a great job. I'm
telling you. This is celebrating twenty five years an evening
with the Saratoga Special. What's interesting about this Saratoga Special.
(53:19):
It's a newspaper that they used to come up with
during the Saratoga Am I right about this? Or am
I just staying something crazy? Anyway, They're going to celebrate
the twenty fifth season of The Saratoga Special with Eclipse
Award winning turf writer Sean Clancy, Joe Clancy and Tim
(53:42):
tom Wall recreate, produced and created by the Clancy Brothers
st Publishing. Saratoga Special printed its first edition on the
opening two thousand and one Saratoga Racecourse. Meat been a
staple of upstate New York racing ever since, printed and
(54:07):
available all around the city and around the racetrack. So
that's uh, that's kind of a fun thing. Lots of stories,
lots of private lumni. TOUA puts the wards in a
place in the history of horse racing. So you want
to meet these guys much fun, you really, this is
(54:28):
one of those ones you really get to enjoy because
you talk to everybody's the cat's still in here. Well
if she comes in and out, Yeah, I'm gonna when
you get started on something kind of long. Do you
care if I feeder? No?
Speaker 7 (54:43):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (54:43):
For he is.
Speaker 7 (54:46):
It's yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
So anyway, this is Wednesday, the eighteen, six thirty eight,
thirty twenty bucks in the ticket, part of which goes
to the Keenland Library Foundations. Doors open at six o'clock
and after the program you get a reception with Joe
Clancy Sewn Clancy into Law. Give them a call at
(55:12):
go to Keenland dot com library or call Keenland two
five four thirty four twelve.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
Alrighty, I guess they're just running the forestation.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
Oh the reason I picked that up. You had said
the name of this horse, and I couldn't believe it.
The horse is named dinosaur.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
Dinosaur.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
Yeah, now is that supposed to be a dinosaur or
is that to be dinoshore?
Speaker 2 (55:41):
She was no dinosaur.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
No, but it's by summer front. So I don't know. Anyway,
when you said dinosaur, I thought I got to look
at that one. But I don't think I get it.
I don't think there's anything.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
I don't know either doesn't No. She was from Tennessee, Knoxville. Yeah,
ex cheerleader down there.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
I think she was a cheer Now I didn't know
that she had. I actually met somebody in her family.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
She was, Yeah, very popular, had her own TV show.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
Oh gosh, you know, she could sing in funny. She
had a great sense of humor. She was always One
time on her show, somebody dropped something, you know, it
was longed TV and it sounded like I don't know
it was. It was a big smash and she said, oh,
I dropped my ring, you know, and everybody fell apart.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
That was just funny. Yeah, she had good sense. Oh hey,
well they're not running and see they're running Delaware Oaks.
I'm gonna do something on the Delaware Oaks in the
next next time, next hour. But that's they've had some
really nice winners of that race. The other though, it's
(57:03):
not like I said nineteen thirty eight I think was
the first one runs. They're running the Sabatoe Mile that's
up at Mama Park. It's a Grade three hundred and
fifty thousand dollars. And let's see there's anti gravity in there.
By first Samuel over at Craven Farm, trademarkers by Upstart.
(57:24):
He stands over at Edred stud Vino Russell is design
number three, Tuscan Sky Vna Russo at Spencer Farm awfully
cool surface to air vitality by street Balls. Nelson Avenue
is by in the Mischief of course, some nation's leading
(57:46):
sire over at Spencer Farm six straight years. It's the
leading alsoin Ruda is number eight by Mendelssohn. That's in
the Mendelson is a half brother in the mischief. By
the way, good sire in his.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Own rights has some relation to Beholder too. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
all three. Other thing I don't know a lot of
bloodlines all of that.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
Station. Yeah, the Bishop's Bay is by the late Uncle Moe,
one of my all time favorite horses over there. And
let's see they're running the Eaton Town Steaks at Mama's
to day. Uh, it's got a field of seven. There's
(58:36):
a pretty good named horse number seven. It's whiskey decision
by in the mischief whisky decision.
Speaker 6 (58:46):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Theresn't of course in the basip with Spencer, there was
another thing there were Spencer. Lady Firefoot is by Temple
City was a very record see over there at Spencery
Farm too. Eaton Town Station is a grade three a
male park three olds enough phillis Amara's going to mile
of sixteenth. Others in there say Maggie Go was an
Argentine Bread five towns is bold in Great Britain. O
(59:14):
Zava has fold in Ireland, so you can tell that
it's it's a turf RaSE. It's one hundred and fifty
thousand three olds and up Philly in Americas, going on
miland sixteenth on the weeds. Uh, delightful Ava and Demaso
(59:35):
and I wants the well named Whiskey decision. But during
the sixth. It's Sarah Tiba. The Grade one five hundred
thousand dollars Ougden Fifth States was won by Dorton Vada
three old. She's about Gervin and she was a dominant
winner of the Ugland fifth. She won by four and
three quarter lengths. Dorton Vader has also one of the
(59:56):
great two Devona Dale States that ghost him the Sandpiper
States at Tampa Bay. The juven of Philly Sprint Stakes
at go Stream was second by head in the Grade
one Acorn of Belmont earned eight hundred and ninety three
two hundred and eighteen dollars. She's the second Grade one
winner from Gerbin full Stop. It's seeded by is this
(01:00:17):
my Man? Yeah Great, succeeded by phaser winners. The Grade
one started for three other graded states at Santa Nita
in six hundred and seventy two thousand dollars and James
Culling Sister Right Be Right Way to James all Right
and others from Gerbin's first crop fold in Florida include
(01:00:38):
Damon's Mouth Winter four stakes two graded, including the Grade
two Saratoga Special closed The Game Sugar won three stakes
two at Churchill, the other at Saratoga. Stunner is one
the tempted states in New York and was placed in
three more two grade including the Grade two Beaumont at Kingdon,
and the list just keeps ongoing. Gervin is standing his
(01:01:01):
third year in the Kentucky, having covered one hundred and
eighty one mayors in one hundred and thirty eight in
his first two. And remember that Gerby was a runner himself.
He won Greatest six and over a million, six hundred
and twenty four thousand. He's approving great one signs for
his twenty five thousand at drid from more on these
(01:01:22):
stands over Eddris diod called Shannon of coles At eight
five nine eight seven three senty to seventy and the
website is drew Stood dot com. James credit is approved
up and James's affiliated with Bloodstock Research Information Series Services.
Tell us something about him.
Speaker 6 (01:01:44):
Hey, good morning our sault jack heat Yeah, Bloodstock Research
Information Services, britnet dot com. It's a source of handicapping information.
We have expert and now it's says tip sheets, fair
odds reports, workout reports, past performances, data files for handicapping software,
(01:02:08):
pedigree information and more. Check out britainet dot com for all.
Speaker 7 (01:02:13):
Your handicapping information.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
All right, well, James running a couple of stakes up.
Speaker 6 (01:02:20):
Uh yeah, they got two stakes today at Churchill Downs.
One of them, the Monomoy Girl, features the return of
a two year old Philly champion, Immersive, who's unbeaten from
four starts for Brad Cox. We'll make our first start
since winning the Reader's Cup Juvenile Phillies today at Churchill Downs.
Speaker 7 (01:02:41):
She'll be a big favorite, and.
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
You know that's a division that.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
Could use her. I could use some good Phillies to
step up. You know, we saw the car when Alabama
last weekend good Year ran next to last, just completely
just didn't have a clunker. As the odds on favorite.
That was her first career loss. She remains the best
Vili in the division, but there's not a lot of
depth after you get passed. Good Cheer Lacara. Not a
(01:03:09):
lot of like a lot of depth to that three
year affiliate of divisions. So it's good to see Immersive
back today. The other steak is a the Trolley would
trolley Wood, which is a turf route and that's a
pretty good race. I'll tell you I like a horse
in that that's Trolley Would. It's the it's the Brendan
(01:03:34):
Walsh trained Verse Stappin. There's a horse that just ran
second into Louisville. To me, he's coming on. He's listed
at ten to one with the Tory, and I think
he's gonna set a good trip just off the speed
Verse stap and so I think he's got a chance
in that uh trolley Would at Churchill Downs today, Yeah,
(01:04:01):
it's the war Front. He's number nine and ras ten.
They said it was Kevin Kirsten k case at that
it was turf was in good shape this morning just
a little bit ago. Yeah. Yeah, I mean they got
rain yesterday in Louisville, but I think it passed through
and we're gonna have rain this morning and they.
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Didn't get it we had yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
Yes, it's the rain all day the But then we
also have two really good racing programs today also at
Mamma's Park and at Delaware Park. At Delaware Park we've
got the first running of the Delaware Derby, which actually
got a pretty decent field I thought field good field size,
(01:04:47):
and we also have the Grade three Delaware Oaks. Got
several other steaks as well. I'll give a pick in
the Delaware Oaks. I like number five Paris Lily. She
ran in that Black Eyed Susan last time for and Walsh,
and she set the pace and she just went ridiculously
fast and she really held in there well to be second.
I think she'll improve upon that effort and have a
(01:05:09):
better tempo today. Even if she's not setting the pace,
she'll be up there close and I don't think they'll
be going at a break breath and neck pace like
they were last time. That really sort of took a
toll on her late, even though she really tried hard
all the way to wire. So I like Paris Lily.
Speaker 7 (01:05:27):
I think she's.
Speaker 6 (01:05:28):
Improving and she'll win the Delaware Oaks. And then at
Mamat Park, their card has the Pegasus for three year
olds as well. They also have the Grade three Salvator
Mile on the main track, and you got a couple
of turf steaks, the Grade three Eaton Town.
Speaker 7 (01:05:44):
And another one.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
Chad Brown is sending some horses for those turf steaks.
They'll be all free formidable with a Salvator Miles headed
by Bishop's Bay, who's a big favorite for Brad Cox
in the Pegasus for three year olds Race number eight.
I like number five Racketbuster. I thought thinky Oliver brought her,
brought him back too fast after he ran a real
good second to Goskar and the Lexington, and he didn't
(01:06:08):
get the right trip on a muddy track at Keelan,
I mean at Churchill. No, no, this is Bracketbuster number
five and race eight. I was just saying, Bishop Space running.
He's a horse that beat in that race and he's
going to be awfully short odds and a formidable favor.
But a race eight, I like number five Bracketbuster. The
Pegasus Stakes at Mommut that worse. I think will rebound
(01:06:31):
from that allowance effort. I mean he went up against
the horse that ran in the Pretness for Baffer last time,
and like I said, didn't get the right trip at Churchill.
But now he's had some time to recuperate, has a
bunch of good works. I look for Bracketbuster number five
and race eight at mom at the run, well.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Very good. There's been some nice winners of the Delaware Oak.
Should I looked up some of them.
Speaker 6 (01:06:56):
Oh yeah, for sure, that's that's their big race. And
they just added Delaware Derby. You know, it's inaugural addition
to the mix, and it's not great because it's the
first running, but it's the race right before that. But yeah,
the Delaware Oaks, it's always a day of the Delaware Oaks.
They're going to run the Delaware Handicap. I think this
(01:07:16):
fall now. They used to run it in late July.
So this is a big weekend for Delaware. And you
know Delaware Park if you've never gone, and I encourage
anybody out there to try to check it out if
they're ever in the area because it's beautiful. It's got
one of the best paddocks. Oh yeah, it's got one
of the best paddocks of any race track in America.
Speaker 7 (01:07:38):
It's gorgeous. I mean just gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
I think you said that last year. Yeah, it may have,
and I looked for it, particularly on television, and you're right.
It was absolutely beautiful.
Speaker 7 (01:07:50):
Yeah. Oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:07:51):
It's all tree lined and plush, and I mean people,
people can go and hang out around the paddock and like,
you know, bring your family and have a pignank. I mean,
it's really nice out there and it's a good race.
And they got a bunch of steaks at both Delaware
and Mama today. So I thought those two trucks, uh,
you know, work spotlighting. I'll be paying attention to those races.
(01:08:13):
And yeah, we just we just did last week was
uh he really had I thought top class performances. You
also had like the weather to deal with, but it
was a big weekend at you know, for the Belmont Stakes.
I thought that, you know, among the performances that, I mean, obviously,
Sovereignty ran huge, you know, in the big race, and
(01:08:35):
he just showed he's the best three year old out there,
and he's just he's yeah, he's a serious contender for
the Breeders' Cup Classic. I mean, I know there's some
good older horses out there, and we'll see some of
them in the Stephen Foster in a couple of weeks
at Churchill, but yeah, he's really really good. And then
as far as the other races win, I thought, she
Feels Pretty was awesome winning that New York New York,
(01:08:57):
that Grade one race on Friday. She didn't really like
the surface, probably, but she's just so classy and good.
She really put on a show. And then on as
far as the sprinters go, I mean, ways and means
was awesome for the Phillies. I thought that ag Bullet
really nice turf sprint wins. She's a good tender for
the Turf Sprint this fall in California and she likes
(01:09:20):
del Mar and I thought that. I thought Raging Torrent
was awesome in the med Mile.
Speaker 7 (01:09:27):
I thought.
Speaker 6 (01:09:29):
Book them, Dano and Milliken both ran big time races
in the True North and Patch Adams, I mean, what
a first the stakes win for him. He powered Claire Wait,
He's a major three year old sprinter for Brad Cox.
I just thought, I think that the Breeders Cup Sprint
the last like five six maybe last decade. You know,
(01:09:51):
that race has had some good horses at times, but
it's had like very little debt, and they basically made
it like the last or next to last race on
the pro and nobody sort of cares about it because
it's just not real compelling. But this year could be
different where you could have a really good Breeders Cup
Sprint field. There's a lot of talented horses out there,
So I thought that was a good weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
For the you know that division, Well, you're going you're
going to watch it on TV.
Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
What's that all the racing today? Yeah, church Oh yeah,
I'm just gonna watch it at home. I'm gonna go
up there in two weeks for the Stephen Foster.
Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
Yeah, that's now two weeks.
Speaker 6 (01:10:31):
That's their last No, that's their last weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
And then they last weekend.
Speaker 7 (01:10:37):
Yeah, then they close on the Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Then they used to fight over the fourth of July.
Remember that.
Speaker 7 (01:10:44):
Yeah, not not anymore, not for a long time.
Speaker 6 (01:10:47):
Yeah, they've been Yeah, that was a long time ago,
and they really at one point say that again, Okay,
that's well yeah, no, but one year, like twenty five
years ago they both ran at the same time. Did
they remember that?
Speaker 1 (01:11:08):
Remember that?
Speaker 7 (01:11:09):
Now, that was a long time ago.
Speaker 6 (01:11:11):
I've been following Horse Shason for a long time. So
but yeah, very well the hook, yeah that could have
been the Earth nineties.
Speaker 7 (01:11:24):
But yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:11:24):
Otherwise, Yeah, this is a time of year where you're
gonna have some good racing for the end of the
month with Churchill closing and then July fourth and then
after that, you know, really looking forward to Saratoga and
Delmar open in mid July.
Speaker 1 (01:11:41):
So what do you think about the fair grounds problem?
Speaker 6 (01:11:46):
I mean, I you know, I knew that there was
some kind of issue going on. There with those machines.
But I didn't know any of the details, and I
just you know, I saw the news this week and yeah,
so that's unlike anybody else. I don't have any inside
knowledge or anything about that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
I know that's what them.
Speaker 6 (01:12:06):
No, Arlington was a little bit different. Arley didn didn't
already have machines like they do. Arlington couldn't get them,
and they couldn't get this or that, and they wanted
tax accessions and it was a much different legallyes like
type argument. And uh. But with the fairgrounds with Louisiana,
they're going to have another meeting, commission meeting coming.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Up, so they ought to buy it.
Speaker 6 (01:12:31):
Well it's not come to that yet. I mean, they're
like fighting over issues. So I don't know what the
deal is with it. But yeah, I mean, you know,
one thing about the down there in New Orleans is
that they have really good winter racing. You know, it's
one of the along with Tampa and Golf Stream. There
aren't any other tracks that have turf racing in the
winter east of the Mississippi, so you know they have.
(01:12:57):
It's it's a really fair track to horsemen to train
and race over at.
Speaker 7 (01:13:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:13:05):
I don't know what the composition is. It's below sea level, though, I.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Long comment it's been a lot of guys have been there. Yeah,
I spent the winner.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
Of Oh Lord, what what what?
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Who was it?
Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
AD fifty five?
Speaker 6 (01:13:28):
So you're down there. Yeah, well it's a different world
down there then.
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:13:32):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
We had an apartment right right behind the tractor.
Speaker 6 (01:13:38):
My my colleague of mine, Kelly Riley, who I work with. Her,
her mom was like the first female police sergeant, like
in uh New Orleans and uh her dad was a
police sergeant or I don't know what the captain or
it was in the police as well. But I was
(01:13:59):
tall her once she's passed on Claire. She was a
really great lady, tough lady. But she was telling me.
I was asking about oysters. You know, I've been in
Orleans a bunch of times for the race and Ghani
and the oysters that she was saying, Yeah, back when
I was working, I can remember we go these places.
They'd be a nickel and oyster.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Oh good, you know, now for a dozen it's.
Speaker 6 (01:14:22):
Like twenty bucks or whatever, twenty something this place in.
Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
New Orleans for breakfast. My mother they went down there
all the time. In the spring, they always went to
one restaurant.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
It was a real famous restaurant that I can't remember.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
I can't remember the name. I thought you might be. Yeah,
I loved it. I thought, well, wet going to New
Orleans to eat, you know. But they went to the fairground.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
That's the first time that doctor Bob Copla and a
kind of cloth face. He was right, who was practicing
down there that winter?
Speaker 7 (01:14:55):
How was he? We know, we know we did.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
We knew of each other and we both knew from
the same area, but we never spoke to each other.
Speaker 6 (01:15:04):
Yeah, yeah, I enjoyed that piece where it was you
and doctor Copeland and Arthur Hancock. All three of you
all had a association with Man of War, citation and secretariat.
So it was at cool, pretty cool piece. And doctor Copeland,
you know, prior to that, before he had his license,
(01:15:26):
you know, he was working at how you met, where
they were breaking horses like not only citation, but a
whole bunch of Hall of famers.
Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
He named his daughter Gail after the damn of il Gail.
Speaker 6 (01:15:42):
Yeah, oh yeah, that was a thing, you a citation.
He beat a bunch of Hall of famers you know,
before he got hurt at the end of his three
year old season, they.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Should never brought him back.
Speaker 6 (01:15:52):
Yeah, he won twenty one to twenty two starts. I
mean he was arguably, I mean there were people at
the time were saying he was the greatest of all
time and bringing him back as a year later just
like tarnished his legacy because he wasn't the same horse.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
I mean, did he missed his four year old season? Right?
Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:16:11):
Yeah, he missed the whole thing. I mean he's allegedly
bowed attended, which coming back from that was now some
people didn't say it wasn't a complete whatever. I mean,
that's like here or there. I mean, Azari had that
same issue in the nineties where she was sidelined for
more than a year and her former Asari that's Paull
of Famer and she was trained by Lord to Seru
(01:16:34):
and she sort of sa hinted that, hey, you can't
come back from that injury she had. But Lucas brought
her back and you know she won grave one races
and uh, the citation did as well. You know, those
horses were so good before their injury that they came
back and were still like top class horses. But you know,
(01:16:54):
I think, you know, there's no doubt about it that
like Nor and those other horses are.
Speaker 7 (01:16:58):
Beat citation, they wouldn't beat him in his part of
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
So you see where Lucas is going to stay in Kentucky?
Did you read that?
Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
I did not see that.
Speaker 7 (01:17:09):
Not go to Oakland in the winter.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Or Saratoga.
Speaker 6 (01:17:14):
Oh, not going to go to Saratoga, all right, yeah,
because I know he's in Oakland in the winter. He
loves it down there too, but uh yeah, he's uh hey,
you know it's I respect him. You know, I saw
my net Derby, you know, out there on the track.
Speaker 7 (01:17:31):
On horseback, and you got to give him a lot
of respect.
Speaker 6 (01:17:33):
Because you know he's had some like you know, health
situations where you had to feel well in some different issues,
and you know he fights it.
Speaker 7 (01:17:44):
And he's he's as tough as nails. Yeah, yeah, no, Yeah,
the coach.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
Seems to be a real nice guy. I've never other
than hello and that kind of stuff, I've never been.
Speaker 6 (01:17:56):
I think guys like Lucas, you know, back in his hey, hey,
like in the eighties and nineties, you know, he was
so good and he was you know, such a great trainer,
and you know, because of that, you know, he had
a little bit of like, you know, cockiness though, you know,
a little bit of you know whatever. But as he
(01:18:16):
got older and became like sort of a dean of
you know, horsemen and trainers, you know, basically, he became
a lot more you know, not that he wasn't friendly before,
but he just became a lot more approachable. And he's
always been a guy though, even in a heyday where
he's like looked at it where he thinks horsemen have
a responsibility to help other horsemen, And that's one of
(01:18:40):
the things he laments nowadays. Like he sees like he's
going along the backstretch and he sees some young horseman
out there struggling to get a horse.
Speaker 7 (01:18:48):
On a trailer.
Speaker 6 (01:18:49):
He stops and helps that guy and you know, shows
him how to get in that horse's head and calm
him down and put him on the trailer.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
And he's like, not an all.
Speaker 6 (01:18:59):
Horsemen do that. So he laments that for the newer
generation where it's just like, you know me, it's all
about me and not about a.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Lot of leading trainers came up under him too.
Speaker 6 (01:19:11):
Well, yeah, tone of them a bunch of Hall of famers.
I mean, will be in the Hall of Fame's in.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
The Hall of Fame, he says, I told him everything
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:19:21):
Yeah, Mike Maker is a former assistant of his. There's
like all these guys.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Out there that are going to stay at Churchill. Is
that the deal?
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
I guess he will wherever. I don't know where he is,
where they go from there.
Speaker 6 (01:19:36):
Of course he can sell ship horses though for those
Saratoga States, you know, he'll have two year olds, and
if there.
Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
Is down here Guysentuky downs coming up, he might want
to pieces.
Speaker 7 (01:19:47):
He doesn't run a lot of turf horses, though, he.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Guy.
Speaker 6 (01:19:53):
He might come uther with one or two. Yeah, but
I don't, you know, he's had some term forces.
Speaker 7 (01:20:00):
But you know, obviously gosh, she had one real good
one in and I forgot already.
Speaker 6 (01:20:08):
But he's, uh, you know, but two year old's you know,
he's big into the two year old race, and so
he'll have some maiden winners this this summer. And if
they they break their maiden in good fashion here either
at the end of Churchill or the you know, early
in Ellis, they're going to be shipping up there for
two year old stakes at Saratogain.
Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
And he and and doctor Cop and a great friends
you know. Oh yeah, they say have the same birthday.
Oh really yeah, Doctor's a lot over them.
Speaker 6 (01:20:42):
But anyway, yeah, it's uh, you know, I thought that
one of the great moments, like on the last weekend
at Saratoga, was they moved that uh they moved that
Manhattan from Saturday to Sunday, but they also moved there
from the end of mile at thirty sixteenth tillmw on
the enter to a mile and eighth on the outer.
And I thought cutting it back in distance really benefited
(01:21:05):
Deterministic and heard Integration, who got beat by like a
head and was fine and late. If it had been
a mileitary sixteenth he probably would have won. But the
fact is Theterministic that's his third straight on turf, his
third straight Stas wins, and it was Miguel Comant's first.
Speaker 7 (01:21:22):
Grade one win as a trainer.
Speaker 6 (01:21:24):
So I thought it was really cool, even though it
was back bed and was really hard for Integration. When
they hit the wire, Frank Miramanti said, you know, congratulations
to Miguel Comant, because you know it had only been
two weeks since Christoph Coleman had died and he was
only fifty nine, and you know, cancer basically just take
(01:21:47):
took him too soon. And you know, the track announcer,
he knew what they all that racing community up in
New York have been going through since then. So I
just thought that being a sentimentalis a softie again, you know, Subtis,
I love that moment after that rain on Sunday. So
I did think that was cool. And hey, it's always
(01:22:09):
a pleasure as of visiting with you all, and.
Speaker 2 (01:22:12):

Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
Too, my friend. Okay, thank you father for silver State
won Grade one states and nearly two million dollars. He
had a world of talent and they had a pettybe
to go with it. He's one of one hundred and
seven states winners. My heart's fun my son of the
great dancing Danzick. You know, it's had one hundred and
ninety eight states winners while spending his entire career at
(01:22:41):
Cleveland farm Home. Also a silver State. The damn of
Silver State Supreme one States placed in graded states. It
is about classic learner and tops our empire maker. He
won over me in nine hundred and eighty five seven
silver state, let folks that he was something special by
breaking his maid in his first started a two year
(01:23:01):
old by nine and three quarter lengths at Turchill Down.
Then went on to accomplish something to let many horses do.
He won sixth in a row the last four of
the states. The first win was the seventh eighth score
at Keenland. Then he went to Churchill Downs and won
by nearly three. Moving to Oaklahn, he won the one
(01:23:21):
hundred and fifty down dollars fifth season State, the five
hundred down dollar ASEX handicap, and a great two million
dollar Oaklawn Handicap. Then he traveled to New York to
win the Great one mentor Apartment six in a row
to state with a runner. He is also a superb
individual and his folds were the same first yearing sold
for two hundred and sixty thousand, two fifty two fifty
(01:23:43):
last year. That's a nice return on the fifteen thous dollars. Say,
if it's getting late in the season, but if you
have a Lake Poland Mayor or phillyp just off the track.
Give Jacob West a call eight five nine nine eight
seven two three to three old. Take a look at
the website, which is Clevelandfarms dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
Oh keat okay gets a few words about Hope Well Insurance.
When we moved to Bourbon County it was a long
time ago, I can't even remember. We checked around to
see who people went to for insurance. It's a small
town and the people that are good could get the business.
And then of course it's Hope Well. So we went
(01:24:27):
with them and they have We've been with them ever
since and they have been absolutely satisfying. I mean we've
had a couple of things about little things. We had
a tree that didn't really break much. I think it
messed with the brain something or another. It's anyway, it
(01:24:50):
blew over against the house. Got that fixed right away.
What else did we have? We had the time the
lines got struck by lightning. We the lights kept going
on and off, and that was weird. But he was
over there with the electric company. I mean they were
there that afternoon and they fixed it. So it was
(01:25:14):
February and it was cold, and they came over and
fixed it so we'd have heat. And some light in
a hot water heater and a stove. I was hoping
we wouldn't have a stove so we could eat out,
but that an't no, I'm kidding anyway, they're the best.
And I'll tell you something else. There's nothing like small
(01:25:36):
town attitude for a big time business. And that's what
they've got. They are not tied to a big international
worldwide insurance company with a bird or a lizard or something.
They what they do is they have a select, carefully
(01:26:00):
selected group of financially sound, reputable companies. Now that's important
because what they do is when they're going to write
your insurance, they go to different companies and they find
out which one's the best coverage, which one is the
best price, and so on, and what they'll do they'll
give you a new obligation review in comparison of your insurance.
(01:26:23):
So they've been in business since nineteen fifty five. They
got to be doing it right. Full time service agency.
And when you call them, you don't have to push
buttons and jump. You call them and they say, oh
well and Ted McClain, and there you are. I mean,
(01:26:43):
it doesn't get any better. And that is nine age
seven two three four seven, nine eight seven two thirty
four seven.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
All right, let's see where all right? Now, well it

That's three stakes wins at Saratoga all grater than one,
two three and the Grade one stakes for runners raised
on products for mccaully Feeds for a good weekend to
(01:34:39):
compete at the highest level. That's called doctor John lou
Emmy Porter Jenny Morris at A five nine eight seven,
three thirty three thirty three.
Speaker 1 (01:34:48):
Be sure to ask.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
About the free services available see the website at Mccauleyfeeds

and want to live in Broadway in McCauley Fees was
the first feed meal in the nation to produce products
exclusively for the horse. That's why we say at McCauley
Fees it's all about the horse. Alrighty, moving right alone,
(01:35:16):
Let's see what we're going to do right now. I
think I look at some of the winners of the
Delaware oaksan one of them was one of my all
time favorite Phillies, which I wrote about and that little
thing they called a book, Dark Mirage, and I'm going
(01:35:41):
to read that that's just very short. This is something
that I wrote Dark Mirage was a champion three OK
Philly of nineteen sixty eight, and the book remains opened
to just how good she was. She was bat by
Doual Healing, raised at his Manchester farm and sold for
six thousand dollars a earring to Lord Miller. She was
(01:36:04):
a very small, barely fifteen hands. Her Persian rode a
second was standing at studying Manchester Farm. And we're never
going to noduce how good he was. He was by
Persian Gulf, the son of Baron, and he raced in
England where he won that He bore a handicap in
the Great Yorkshire Handicap plus the Manchester Cup. He sat
(01:36:26):
several nice stakes when a Persian entry Darsham come to mind,
but he died the same year that his main claim
to fame, Doc Mirage was voted champion three year old Phillame.
It took Doc Mirage a while to get rolling, not
for lack of nut that, it was for a lack
of trying. She started seventeen times as a two year old,
(01:36:48):
winning two races, broke a maiden a fourth start taking
a maiden special in Saratoga, came back ten days later
to win an allowance race at the same track. Competed
in five states five different tracks, were the best efforts
coming in Golden Rod a Churchill, where she was fourth,
and she was a close fifth in the Guardiania Garden State.
(01:37:09):
Dark Mirage had the same connections as a three old.
She was on by Lord Miller and trained by E. W. King,
but she was a completely different villa. After running forth
in the first start of the year in an allowance
race at aquaduc sheialed off nine straight wind She won
a one mile allowance race at Aquaduct by nine lengths
(01:37:30):
on March two under Ron Turcott. On April three, she
won the Aqueducts Priory States by length with Angel Cordorobove.
For the balance of the season, a regular writer was
Emanuel E. Casm d In the Church of Down's Dark
Morage won the La trou N by three lengths from
the Talent at the Lady Track and the Daughter of
(01:37:52):
Important Sensitivo. Six days later, she won the Kentucky Oaks
by four and athletes, besting Miss Ribo. On May twenty three,
she won the Acorn States at Belmont, getting the mile
of one thirty four and four beating another Nail and
Lady Train to one by six. She won the Mother
Good States on June or tenth by ten lengths over
(01:38:15):
guest Room and Parita. Twelve days later she won the
Coaching Club of America hous by twelve over Guestroom and
Syrian c. Moving to New Jersey, dot Warn won the
Mamoth Opes by four from a singing rain on the
fourth of July. The last start of the season was
on July twenty seven in the Delaware Oaks. Actually it
(01:38:36):
was a better exhibition run. Between the seventh and eighth races,
she won by two lengths over three of the Phillies
that were competing for second money. There was no question
as to who was the champion three year old Philly
of nineteen sixty eight. Doc Maurras continued to win straight
streak where they first started four a win in the
(01:38:56):
Santa Maria anticap at satur Nita ten races in a
row or mark one. She went to the post for
the Santa Margarita under one hundred and thirty pounds with
Eddie Belmontea. The track was slopping rough at the start.
She duck out on the first turn and broke down
extended attempts to save her prove feudal. At one time
(01:39:18):
during her three year old season, rival trainer match first observed,
I'm not at all sure that that little Philly can't
beat them all, Doctor Favor Damascus, any of them at
a mile and a half scale of wags. But we
should remember about dark Morage. Well, she was the first
Philly to sweep the Acorn, the Mother Goose and the
Coaching Club American Oaks.
Speaker 5 (01:39:41):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
That was.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
That race was one of the first time. Let's see it.
I guess I better do a commercial here, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:39:50):
I forgot to say hi to bet see at nine o'clock, I, Betsy,
it's nine o'clock somewhere. Yeah, let's see new or Spenser
Dan Sally dance all right.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Last Saturday is Saratoga. The Grade one one million ele
Metropolitan Handicap was won by Raging Tarn, a coat from
the first Cup by Maxweum Mischief. Raiging Tarn has won
four other stakes, three graded, among them the Grade one
Malibu and a million, seven hundred and ninety seven thousand,
four hundred dollars. He is one of six twenty twenty
(01:40:27):
five stakes winners three of them graded stakes winners by
maximum mischief. Through last weekend, the top four third cop
sires were Omaha Beach, Maximum Mischief, n Russell and Matoli,
all standing at Spencery Farm. The same day that Raging
Tarn won the Grade one Metropolitan in the midst of Side,
the winner of the Grade one Woody Stevens Patch Adams,
(01:40:50):
and the winner of the Grade one Bilmont Stake Salventery.
Salventry has also won the Kentucky Derby and the third
coat in the Missive to win North America Most Coveted
States Authentic winner of the Kentucky Derby, and that same
year the Breeders' Cup Classic is a nation's third rank.
Second crops are a list headed by Bocomo his stable
(01:41:12):
made at Spencer Fall. And did you notice that the
first stakes for two yuls this year, the Astory at Saratoga,
was won by Samsey w Philly from the first crop
by your pawn who stands at Spencer Fall. See why
the field to win as much the best. The Alfon
won six of his eight starts, one great one state
(01:41:33):
and he's my uncle more godz Brian Mark or Daniel
and the five nine to nine four years old, thirty
take it. Ask about a late season deal and see
the website at Spencer Farm dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
All right, Sally Horseman Service has been in business, uh
huh sixty years and stuff. How many generations is that
out there, going all the way down to Nicole pebrat four.
I don't know a lot of them, five maybes. Yeah,
(01:42:08):
they as they've been around forever. Yeah, it's family. It
is a great family, and they do a great job.
They're really conscious of what they're doing, and they try
and all that good stuff. They're super and it's obvious
their vehicles and equipment are just is start looking. Everything
(01:42:32):
looks brand new. They have a what do you call
a big building or whatever it is out there they
where they check front to back on all that stuff
and you know, breaks and all that et cetera. Electric
and they just thought, you know what they're doing. So
(01:42:54):
what they've got is vehicles and equipment tiptop stuff. But
you like to say the single most important safety factor
is the ability and experience of the person behind the wheel.
They're really proud of their drivers at Sally Horsemans. They're
experienced drivers and experienced horsemen and that's what you need.
(01:43:16):
Think about that next time you ship your horse across
the county or country. When you load your horse into
a sally Van, you can depend on the fact that
the person behind the wheel is one of the best
in the business. And I got saw the picture Justified
and off of a sally Van at the race driving.
(01:43:38):
Now it's good enough for Justify, I reckon, good enough
for me. Folks at sally Van wouldn't have it any
other way. And that's why for more than half a century,
sali Van's been the safest way to the winter circle.
Speaker 3 (01:43:58):
Now back to the Bread Training Center and Ursa ellis.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):
All right. They're running into Delaware Oaks today. We already
talked about my favorite Oaks funny. But the first one
was run back in nineteen thirty eight, and it was
won by a feel named Handcuff. It was course for
for three rolls being and oaks it would be. And
(01:44:26):
Handcuffs was about which one, as you remember he was,
which one was a chickle and he was a great
rival of Gallon Fox. It was it was It was
which one in the Gallon Fox had looked up in
the in the travers and killed each other off from
(01:44:48):
Jim Dandy came on.
Speaker 7 (01:44:49):
And waned.
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Yeah. I think that might have been the last start
for which one mm hmm he was, but who the
brilliant racehorse? But he I think he broke down in
yeah yeah, but and with handcuffed for.
Speaker 5 (01:45:10):
She was.
Speaker 7 (01:45:12):
Had won.
Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Let's see what else did she wins?
Speaker 4 (01:45:16):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
She was a Champion three old Folly of the Year
and a two year olds show in the Wakefield States,
ran second in the Matron. At three she won the
Alabama and the New England Oaks, the Delaware Oaks and
the Acorn, and ran second in the Coach and Clever
American Oaks. And in four she ran third in the
Suburban and the Whitney. So she was taken on the
(01:45:39):
colts that year as a Brewer. First folds by Psychic
Bed placed in States Well, ran second in the Champagne
and third in the Washington Park for Tunity, which was
one of the big two year old races at that
time when Washington Park and Arlington Park were both running
up in Chicago and third fold was changed by Firethorn.
(01:46:08):
He won a Dixie handicap and the Merchants and Citizens
Handicap and Olympic Handicap. But she had a couple of
stakes when he was there, and she had set free
by hurl away. Not many of them are in black type,
but this one did and he went thirty Olympic handicap.
And but that race has been won by some really
(01:46:30):
top mayors and phillies in Mary now through the years
and vagancy gallery. At next move, Priminada wanted, if I'm
not mistaken, Permenada was was Spumse Gallant Bloom, the daughter
of the gallon Man. That was a race with King
(01:46:51):
Ranch was a champion three row Filliam nineteen sixty nine.
Desert Vixen wanted. He said, feet, it's a race has
been one by a bunch of really nice sources. Let's see,
I think I've got something to do here. This I
(01:47:12):
thought I did on No, I don't guess I did
one of these other stakes. Learning frillies around here is wanting,
but I don't have it right now, so we're going
to have to move right along again. They running a
(01:47:36):
couple of nice versions that we talked about earlier at
at Churchill today. Neither one of them are greatest States.
Is not a whole lot of greatest states, you know?
No matter more girl states up there was one by
let me see something else. I felt sure I had
(01:47:57):
something else. I thought I had Nasaphar Nasa far also
on the Delaware Oaks, and that was a she was
a ma mood. But she was a half sister of
the Handcuff and wan taking in a rose leave. And
she she was the one that was not much of
(01:48:19):
them product. She had a bad produce records far as
I go U and Handcuff. I was also the exam
of a half sister to best Tone by sky Raider.
Sky Raider was out of a top marri named top Flight.
(01:48:43):
The top Flight was Tanking two ye old Philly bi year,
I think in nineteen thirty one, and guy Raider was
out of her and he stood over here for mississip
CV Whitney and he want to experiment field experimental for
handicap Number one was the grand name of Chocolate Bow.
(01:49:08):
Tenais was Chocolate Bow was Beau Max was an unrased
stallion that stood down at King Ranch, and but Chocolate
Bowl was satin Gold. Was the Tuyard who was he
(01:49:31):
was purchased. I think he went to stood at I'm
pretty good two.
Speaker 7 (01:49:35):
Yard did.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
At most matter? Oh, okay, speak up I'm trying to
decipher some of this as we go along talking. But
Satin Gold was my tiyard that uh I previously went
to stood at the old Stallion Station and it was
(01:50:00):
purchased in the same year as Tommy Lee, which made
him a three year old. Tommy Lee was a three
year old in nineteen fifty nine won the Derby, one
of my all time favorite horses. And there's some nice
horses down through the field the pedigree there's doo Lee
(01:50:21):
by thirty one of Chevelin and third in the Preakness
Daily Dip was a Mam Mood and one of Myrtlewood
States Baby Prince and Ill Prince, one of the New
York Turf Riders Hurdle handicapped h and the Ruse d
Reagon Hurdle Handicap. And see what else is in that family.
(01:50:42):
It's Cortpole and marm Mould coach won the Washington Handicap,
in the Maryland Handicap loose Rock my son again who
Son again stood over came out of brittle marit him
one time, but he had slipped down to he could get.
Speaker 7 (01:50:58):
You a runner.
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
They weren't too sound. They stood four thousand dollars over it.
Speaker 7 (01:51:06):
Came in.
Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
And let's see there's changed by fires on. It's a
it's a really nice, nice pig. Anyway you look at it. Okay,
Well we'll get up close now to I want to
say something about the third word. Training center. Great place
to train a horse. Absolutely, a lot of winners come
(01:51:32):
out of here, always have. Of course, it's located very
it's right close to it's on the Paris Pike, just
a mile from the interstate. I guess, remember my baby
of a couple of miles. But anyway, it's it's easy
access to the interstate.
Speaker 1 (01:51:51):
Now the road's good to Yeah, interstates right down there.
I mean, they couldn't ask for better access.
Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
Yeah, it's a lot of a lot of good horses
have come out here. It's on the same side of
road as the lex Comfort Blood And they've got a
one mile you can bring a yearly in out here. Yeah,
break him here because they've got yeah grass places where
(01:52:19):
you can gallop. If we've got that five a mile
track down there, you take them down there to keep
out of the way to the horses that are doing
some serious training. When you when he's ready, he can
go up to the mile track. And they've got a
starting gate down there with the excellent starting crew. They've
got an official clocker here. Uh, you got a real
(01:52:41):
good annasins out theft.
Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
How that's funny. Oh, they doesn't have as much fun
as you did.
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
Well, I love it. You know you've got to meet
all kinds of different people down there. Most of them
stood up in front of you there. Yeah, have to
would you please move? We see the poles. Yeah, And
they said they've got a grass califulate and take your
(01:53:09):
babies out there and you can, you know, graze your
horse if you want to reasonable stall rents. The thing
of it is if it's bill, if it's full here,
the thing you do is call. First of all, let
me give you the phone number eight five nine, number
two nine three eighteen fifty three, and uh, ashmans they've
(01:53:34):
got in their stalls. If they don't available, the thing
to do is, I want to start walking through the large.
If you just got two or three horses, maybe that
you want to put sermon in training. A lot of
times somebody have two or three efty stalls like that
that they'll sub belief because they've got to pay rent
(01:53:56):
