Speaker 3 (03:42):
And Live. We are right here at the Thorb Training Center.
Beautiful day to day and the nice dock is here.
John Nicholson is back from Saratoga.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Beautiful day this morning. It was beautiful Saratoga as well.
It was the weather very similar. I think what we
have gets a day and a half later.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
So it was it was beautiful. Good.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Tell me about the Whitney.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
The whole week was was really special. Whitney Week in
Saratoga is special. That it's uh. They did the Jockey
Club round Table, which is the uh, you know, the
way the Jockey Club says things. They they don't say,
we were going to talk about all the stuff in racing.
(04:26):
They say, it's the Jockey Club round Table, a discussion
of the matters pertaining to racing. So okay, well that's
the way the Jockey Club would say it. And that
was really fascinating. They had all kinds of speakers and
then the new president of the Jockey Club, Everett Dobson,
gave his state of the State of the Union address
(04:49):
and outlined you know, his thoughts about things, his goals
and where we are and where we should be and
so forth. And that was really that whole thing was interesting.
I don't know. NBC has that political guy with he
rolls up his sleeves and he gives all the pole
numbers and all that, and who's going to win the election,
Steve Karnaki, and he is a race fan big time
(05:14):
and he's now doing that. He recreates all that for
when NBC covers the Triple Crown races and covers the
Breeders Cup, he goes, you know, this wars and interestingly enough,
he grew up in Boston and went to Suffolk Downs,
which he referred to as suffering and that's where our
(05:36):
own Michael Blowing cut his equine teeth as well. But
he was really entertaining. Then they had this young man,
Griffin Johnson, who is who is the big chatter around.
He's the influencer, the twenty five year old influencer. He's
got fourteen million followers and he is the one that
(05:58):
is credited, many say, for the great ratings that Kentucky
Derby got this year because he's a They did a
smart thing. West Point, the West Point Ownership Group gave
God Well, I'm sure he bought into Sandman and then
all the other horses in their racing stable Man. He's
got a piece and so he does a daily here's
(06:20):
how the horses are doing here, and he does it
live from the backside. And he's got fourteen million young
people excited about racing.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
And he didn't have any background in racing or anything.
It's just got it. He just fell in love with him,
as we many people do. And he's so he spoke
of a very poised young man. Clearly, when you're twenty
five and you're good looking and you're rich, you know,
you're you're poised.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
You know.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
I'd be poised to that. Yeah. I don't have any
experience in any.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Of those either, but he does.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
And but he gave a good talk on how to
make racing attractive to a new generation. And he struck
the right chord in my book, because what he said
was we've got to make it about the horse. And
it's hell Aluja, that's exactly right, and about every horse
(07:18):
has a different personality, every horse especial. They have good
days and bad days, and you know, and they you know,
they give their best most of the time and if
they don't, there's a reason and all that stuff. And
so he was really really excellent too. And there was
when mister Dobson gave his final remarks. I was very
(07:41):
pleased that he spent a considerable amount of time about
speaking about aftercare good and he said, what I think,
Michael and I've been saying is that the industry deserves
credit that they're finally talking about it, and that after
cares and capital letters now and it's a is a
part of the industry. Now, we got to fund it
(08:04):
and uh. He quoted the head of the International Aftercare Group,
a veterinarian from Australia UH named Everett Forbes, who gave
a very eloquent speech in Lexington at Old Friends this
year where he said the same thing. He said, now
(08:25):
the industry has got through all of its transactions kind
of make sure that a carve out is made for aftercare,
not a not a checkbox for a charity, but every
transaction needs to be setting money aside for the care
of these horses afterwards. We're a long way from getting there,
but at least the first step to getting there is
(08:46):
people talking about it. So that was good. Then another fun,
exciting event for all of us was the induction into
the Hall of Fame. And for uh, Michael and I
and for the two of you, I think we were delighted.
Our friend Arthur Hancock. That was Oh boy, that was
(09:09):
a tearful Yes, he was and gave a wonderful speech.
He had his old family there, Uh, and it was
a touch. It very emotional and everybody, everybody was thrilled
to see him get in. And you know, they did
the you know the introduction where they do a video
(09:31):
and and you know, to see the pictures of his
grandfather and his father, him and Seth and Dell and
the whole thing. It was just very you know, we're
just the Hancock family is just special. And that was
that was really good. And then our friend Alfred Knuckles
was there to accept the induction of the Catalon, the
(09:58):
horse in the fifties. I confess didn't know a lot
about the Capitol.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
I knew a little. I can tell you a little
bit about him.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Yeah, well, you it was a champion sprinter, That's that's it.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
It was never beaten by a horse. That carried more
weight than him doing his entire life really never Yeah,
and he had a peculiar way. He had injured a
foot doing something when he was a fold and he
had a peculiar way of moving. He would throw one leg. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
They were talking about that. They were talking about cities.
The strangest movement horse.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yeah. Yeah, but he did it in a hurry.
Speaker 6 (10:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah. They bread two two champions sprinters down there White Skies.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
They bred him too at Hirstland. Yeah right, And well
that was really and we were really happy for for
Alfred and the Knuckles family to you know, be able
to have a light shone on what they've done over
the years. Were going to Saratoga is always special. And
I've been able in the last couple of years with
(11:05):
his old friends to be a part of the wonderful
world of Anne's Washington Inn and boy to get on
the porch in the morning with with coffee and everybody
getting ready to go to the races and going back
and forth of who's going to win, and who won
yesterday and and what's the what's the latest, And they
(11:26):
delivered the the racing form and the programs up to
the porch like it when the you know, before the
sun comes up, so everybody's peeling through it. Michael Blowing
is holding holding court. Ye and uh, you know the
Boacan family has has had that for the you know,
the better part of the last century. That that Washington Inn.
(11:51):
And Joseph, very clever, Joseph that the owner along. I
guess the family has always owned it. Joe's the owner.
Now he did something that they did something very clever.
Their Their mother's name was Anne, and she was a
delightful lady by all accounts, and very very gracious and
hospitable and special to a lot of people. It was
(12:13):
the Washington n Joe put it to be the to
be Anne's Washington in because a it puts it first
in the listing of the hotels you go to. And
I said, ah, that's pretty pretty smart. But it's a
special atmosphere and it's well, it's wonderful and it's a
special family. And and Janna, you know, my bride went
(12:37):
up with me and she just it's not stopped talking
about how what a special occasion that is. And so
we went to you know, the Whitney was good racing
and a good day and I think a good good outcome.
The crowds were phenomenal and encouraging. It reminded me of
(12:58):
the Belmont, the Belmont at Saratoga this year and last year.
When you have these, you know, more more people than
really Saratoga could handle, but they did. They got it
in and the Whitney day was a lot like that.
It was seated, you know, c to see and of
course everything about that little village is is special.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
What's the population of Saratoga? You know, it's like, would
you compare it?
Speaker 5 (13:30):
We got our crack put the crack research team on that.
I mean, does it remind you of like I think
it's a It's it's smaller. It's like a cross between
Georgetown and Midway maybe, except it's got I mean, it's
got some modern bank buildings and all that. But Janna
and I just strolled through the streets. Yeah, uh, you know,
(13:51):
and it's one big main downtown.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
But but it's it's just dripping with with history. You know,
a lot of small town Vanderbilt's Whitneys and uh, Belmont
and Belmont, that's right, don't going, you know. And starting
with Morrissey, the boxer who was a little bit had
a colorful background. And that's that started the whole the
(14:20):
whole thing dominated by a track that's just a couple
of blocks off the downtown. That's great, super and you
know the National Racing Museum, Brian Bouier and all those
that team up there. Twenty twenty eight thousand. Well that's getown. Yeah,
that's Georgetown.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Yeah, Georgetown.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
There's well more, way more than that in Scott County. Goodness,
you can't. You can't get a place to live there.
And they're building more and more and more nice apartments
and more and more and more nice housing and still
can't keep up with it.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
So now a lot's going to Harrisburg. You heard about it.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
You've heard about Are they going there?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Now?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
iPhone? I what is it?
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Apple?
Speaker 6 (15:12):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (15:12):
Apple?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Apple is moving every bit of its glass production for
the phones, for the computers, whatever to Harrisburg. Wow, Yeah,
they're you know Corning is down there.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
I thought Corning was in for sales. No, it's in Harrisburg.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
It's in Harrisburg. I've still got three or four old
Corning dishes I've had for thirty or forty years. But
they're taking all of it, all the wherever there's glass
in your phone or your computer. It's coming out of Harrodsburg.
It's put millions and millions and millions of dollars. It's
(15:52):
a big deal. So Harrisburg ought to be the next Georgetown.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
You know.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
Well, you know, Georgetown's continuing to go to grow. It's
been the fastest growing county for ten years. Yeah, and
maybe Harrisburg will be down then Elizabethtown with the battery
factories going in there, and it's gonna make a big
move too, Is that right?
Speaker 3 (16:10):
I missed the battery Remember when it was so small
you could get up enough people to get a crap
game ex exactly.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
And the only thing it had was.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
College Yeah right, that was college town.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Yeah's that interesting.
Speaker 6 (16:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
They used to have their annual fight with Transylvania.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Oh yeah, that was it.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Center Center College. No, no, no, no, uh Georgetown, oh
George Georgetown College.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Oh that's okay, you're talking about Georgetown, not Harrisburg. Georgetown's
changed in my lifetime, all with the Lord, all with
the Toyota plant, all the time.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
The Bengals used to come down Hull.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
Some of kings down there, and I remember that.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, that was a.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Great move by Georgetown College. Because the Bengals built that,
built the field, built the stadium, and built the dormitories
and they would use them for a month and then
the rest of the year it was used by Georgetown College.
Great deal. I love deals like that.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
That was smart, you know, I was thinking you were
talking about the industry and the money and stuff from
the foling and the farms is where it starts. Now,
what's interesting about that is I think it saves the land.
(17:40):
Oh sure, the farms saved the land. And then you
go through foling and sales and racing and everything, and
all that is making money, you hope, yes. And then
when you get to the end and the horses retired,
there's no money, right, And that's the section of it
that I mean. It still helps with the land, but
(18:02):
that's where well, all that hot income.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Well, what's the first you know, what's the first transaction?
It's a stud fee, yes, and so if if you
and this is gonna take front up from the top down,
you know it's gonna uh and our industry doesn't do
that very well. It's you know, it doesn't take orders
from people very well. We're all divided into states in
our own little areas but you know it starts with
(18:29):
a stud fee. Uh, then you go to the sales,
to the sales ring. So if you had a little
carve out of a of a one percent of stud fee,
one percent of the sales ring, one percent of every
entry fee into a race, uh that and one percent
(18:52):
of the purse coming back, you could finance aftercare for
the entire every registered thoroughbread that comes out of the
jockey club. Oh and the registration I've missed that point.
When you register a horse for the jockey club, so
the jockey club can declare that it is a third bread.
(19:14):
And so that's a lot of It sounds very simple,
but it would take the cooperation of a lot of people,
and it would take a little bit of giving up
just a touch, given up a little bit of what
you have, and it would take organization and cooperation. But
it could be done, and it makes sure.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
And you know though each state hands like the KDF
fund and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Of incentive funds.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, you get a buff career there from those. That's
another one.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
There's the transactions within our industry are such and are
numerous enough that aftercare could could be done without having
to do what we have to do, which is ask
people for money and just out of their generosity. And
people are wonderful and the hearts, the hearts are right,
(20:07):
The people's hearts are right. We just got to get organized.
We've got to get their heads where their hearts are.
And if we do that, then then I think we can.
We can never have to worry about the well being
of a foal who hits the ground. We know from
that from fold to forever, that horse is going to
be looked after. And we also have I want to
(20:29):
make sure I mentioned that Diversify Great New York bread
Bellamy Road Gelding has moved from our farm here in
Kentucky to Hillcrest to Cabin Creek in New York the
old friends there because we felt like that that farm,
(20:53):
our farm up there celebrates New York breads. Commentator, the
great Commentator was kind of their silver charm there, kind
of lead Spokesrce and sadly, at the age of twenty five,
he passed away a few weeks ago, and Barbara Fosson
on our team had an inspired idea that diversify is here.
(21:16):
But but he's a New York bread he won. Heck,
he won the commentator stakes. He won the Whitney and
he's a great New York bread Bellamy Road. Let's send
him up there. And so while everybody at Cabin Creek,
at our farm there was sad about Commentator, they were
absolutely ecstatic that Diversified arrived. And so I was glad
(21:40):
that I was able to go up there, and Michael
and I were up there just a little bit after Diversify.
The age he was folded twelve. So what is he thirteen? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
middle aged, still.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
In the Yeah, that's a great idea.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Yeah, they were very very happy. I got to go
to a big fundraiser for Cabin Creek and old friends
up there, and it's it's the New York people are
supporting that farm so well, our old buddy Jack Noblan,
Funny Side Jack, you know from Funny Side and right
so I could sackle, I can't pronounce it. There's stables
(22:20):
up there. Yeah, yes, that's it. I knew you could.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
That group our big supporters among a lot of people
up there, and they've got a beautiful, beautiful farm just
about ten minutes outside of Saratoga, and it's it's doing great.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
That's good.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
That is really good.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
I was gonna ask you something and I.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Forgot what it was exactly who Now see, he was
the Indian lady that's traveled with with.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Lewis and Clark.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Yeah, show showed them the way, Yeah, Sol showed them
Like did she marry Clark?
Speaker 3 (22:58):
No, I don't.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
I don't think she ever did. Okay, that's right, that's right.
But she got a lot of nice write ups in
the history books.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
We've got a book about that that was I can't
remember what it was the name of it, but I
think it's Lewis and Clark.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Well, oh, I know all that leads to Jack Nolan
being a good supporter of Cavin Creek in New York
and having a great horse and funny side.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
So how many have you got up there now?
Speaker 5 (23:30):
I think twenty five? And it's a forty acre farm.
It's beautifully laid out in this valley and that's what
they can that's what they have. They've got that many
paddocks that you know that, yeah, running sheds. It's all
so we couldn't have shipped diversified there until someone left
us and it was commentator. Yeah, so that was that's
(23:52):
how that how that happened. But Joe Anne and Mark Pepper.
Joanne is in charge up there, but Mark her has
been built it, I mean built it nail by nail,
board by board.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
And they do their tours like you have to check.
They got their own website, but they do it like
two days a week for like three hours. They do
their tours. And can they get a nice business especially
during Saratoga.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
During Yeah, I think having a horse that won the
Whitney right down the road from the Whitney is thoughly in.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
That's right, Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
It was an article but read somewhere that they wrote
about the horse that's turned out with with major. Yeah,
and he was a pretty good little race horse. Yeah,
they didn't mention that major he was a little bit
better than impistrollably one one hundred and sixty eight thousand.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
You know, well we need to write that up and
won you and julib Cupper two.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
What you're looking at a couple of two old campaigners
that did well. Yeah, yeah, up in the same paddock
fussing over who gets what.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Sakaised to wasn't bred by claverand but he was raised on.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Lucien and he.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
He was raised on claveran. Weal, he was just a hell.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
How'd you come by him?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Somebody called us and said there was an old class
horse down in the river downs they were gonna put down.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
It was.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
I forgot her name. You know who? She is, a
gorgeous blonde girl, runs farms around here and stuff.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I can't remember her name.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Now that's awful.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
That's a beautiful girl.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Yuh.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Anyway she calls it, somebody needs to take to do
something about that. So well, we got a trailer and
we went up and we looked at him, and he
was a gorgeous stok. He doesn't nearly look his aide
and uh we brought him home and nursed him back.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
And he was in the stall forever he has. His
ankle looked like a grapefruit. Yeah, it was amen.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
But he raced again for you guys. No he didn't.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
No, No, we were we'll take him and take care
of him.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
They don't have cow ask me about see she keeps
up with him. Oh okay, you know he put he's
old for ninety thousand a year in a serratoy long
time ago.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
So that made it one.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Hundred and sixty six thousand dollars. You know you like
to run a mile or long a girl and on
the grass. One in New York, one in.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Florida, and you know, tough, but was a turf front predominantly.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
And I always say when somebody calls up and they
say something like we got something, you know, we don't
want him to go on to kill her trus No, no,
I try to go out. When did you come and
look at him and say, well, I was, we'll hitch
up the trailer. You know, we're coming home with it. Yeah,
because we didn't.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
He was turned down out with tackle eligible eligible forever.
But that the tackle eligible did run for you though, right, yeah,
you're right. That's how I was getting them.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
We got it? What did we get from a gold
a silver jewel?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Oh yeah?
Speaker 1 (27:14):
And a wind picture with your brother in it? I
still got to bring and then.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
We got naked there Okay, hard time getting him in there,
get in here?
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Come on. Well the chat that was when the crowd
was chanting ursul.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
So a bunch of guys. I guess they knew me
or something and they been on it because I yeah,
And he paid sixty three dollars to win that.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Day, and I would shout your name.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Too, went the Winter Circle. We heard the chain in
the background earth So it was fun day.
Speaker 5 (27:53):

Speaker 5 (29:09):
Everybody was drinning and laughing about that and thrilled at
the horse want.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Yeah. We talked about it on a showing because somebody
had sent out a thing from Spendthrift that Ned Toffee
ned short for Edward was going to go up, and
they talked about how it was a typing air or
something and they just named it that, and we talked
(29:35):
about her. So we got a friend down at Fort
Worth that listens to the show, Texas Terry, Texas Terry
thought that was a good idea, and she bet on him.
She said, thanks for the tip or something like that.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Well, that's what we're here for, is to make people money.
Speaker 3 (29:52):

All right, We're back to Jackie and don Nicholson over
here and he's just back from Saratoga.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Let me ask you a question.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Did you did you all go out to.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Dinner a lot and all that?
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Oh? We did.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
We had a wonderful week without the dinner every every
every night. And then we by the way, we after
all the festivities were over, we went to uh to
Sack to Sagamore out an hour what an hour north
Sagamore Hill where Teddy Roosevelt raised his kids. We didn't
(34:15):
get over there. They didn't have they didn't offer tours.
But the Sagamore Resort on Lake George, it's beautiful. Spent
two days just to kind of decompress there. But no,
we we we have some favorites. Michael of course holds
like I say, he holds court wherever he goes up
up there. But Bama MIA's Italian which is very close
(34:38):
to Ann's Washington Inn. Delicious food. Giuseppe is the owner
of that. I don't know Giuseppe's last name.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
He was kind enough to give us a bottle of
wine to thank us for coming, and it was it's
it's full. But somehow we are always able to get
a table. I just say, you know, uh, and they
say what's your name, and I say it's blowing And
somehow the I always get the uh uh.
Speaker 6 (35:10):
You know.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
But you know what the at the Hall of Fame
or the at the Jockey Club thing, you know, mentioning
Airdrie stud It's just a good feeling when you when
you have good young you know, young people about our standards.
But but Brett Jones, chip off the old blow, chip
(35:30):
off the old block. Brett Brett was up there. He's
super uh nice guy. He wrote a nice piece in
in our UH magazine about McCracken that he and he
of course he and his dad were very very good
to two old friends, especially when Michael was getting started. Uh.
(35:51):
Governor Jones was was one of the early ones when
that when people were very very skeptical. Then you know,
you see the the you know, the young people who
are taking care of our business now like like we're
at and doing such a great job and doing it
very honorably and in the great spirit of his of
(36:12):
his dad, like you said. But then got to visit
with Tracy Farmer, Oh no kidding, And there was something
kind of serendipitous about that because he had commentator and
we were saying goodbye to commentator and and uh and
I had a chance to visit with mister Farmer who's
still quite active and doing and buying and selling and
(36:34):
all that it appears, and he was front and center
at the Jockey Club round table. Good so yeah, Jackie
the whole I think we're still a glow from the
whole the whole week. Uh. Went to a place right
off the track that was called Panels p E N
(36:55):
N E L l S. That was really great food
and know it and it's almost walking distance from the
from the track and once again very close to Anne's
Washington in and Michael and Janna and our wonderful board
member Bob Fulmer from Maine. We're having dinner and we uh,
Jane Lyon from Summer Wind Farm came in. We had
(37:20):
that's it. Yeah, another person has been very good to us. Yeah. Uh,
and had a chance to see her and visit with
her as well. And that's the great thing about being
up there. It's like being at home. It's like that
everybody's it's like going to camp with everybody and everybody's
everybody's there and you get a chance to to renew
(37:41):
acquaintances and to visit with people that you that you
know in that kind of setting, which is really great.
It's just really great.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
I think Michael's going back to the travers, is he?
Speaker 7 (37:53):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (37:54):
I think so, yeah, next weekend at the weekend, I
think it is it the twenty I got into my
head to twenty fourth.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Okay, two weeks.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
Yeah, so he's said, I don't think I'm gonna be
able to go back.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
But in the Indian Greeks show, the flightline Philly for
a million one yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
Oh and the sales were the sales were really robust,
threw the doors off. Yeah, and that was really uh,
really encouraging. Carrie carry Coffin, who's on our board, he's
you know, four star sales. They had I think a
two point seven million uh colts in there, and the
(38:35):
sales topper was four point one million. I'm trying to
think who that who that was? But they had I know,
in the first night they had nine that were over
a million dollars, which was hadn't been done before. And
then the next night was even bigger, a gross of
over one hundred million for two nights. That's a lot
of good horse flays run.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I'll be interested to see how the the fly lines
do next year when they're two year old. Yeah, that's yeah.
Well she didn't raise it too huh, but my god,
he was he was unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Yeah, might have been one of the old time goods.
He just didn't make enough charge to qualify, right.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
Right, right, But I think you're I think you're right.
I think twenty forty sixty years from now that'll were
talking about flight line. Uh, and you know you were
speaking about Mage and dor Knock and uh, we went
out a guess it's been like three weeks ago to
visit Pookah over at Resolute Racing.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
She's been in this year and what now she's.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Got a Philly.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Oh didn't get back, right, she did?
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Not, right, that's right?
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Uh but this little Philly looks like and I'm not
sure who who's who she's by, but uh, well I
probably knew at the time, but I can't remember. But
you could just tell that's an Oaks winter just waiting
to happen.
Speaker 6 (40:01):
But she was.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
If you want to go two stays, yes.
Speaker 6 (40:06):
And.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
You know she's a big brown and so we, uh,
we kind of feel like we're part of the family
over there with big Brown is awfully proud. Big Brown
didn't get hasn't received a lot of acclaim as a
as a sire, except as a good brutal map sire.
(40:29):
And that's true. Yeah, So it's all it's all exciting,
and it was fun. And and what mister Stewart's doing
over there at Resolute Racing there in Midway, he's just adding,
he's adding a lot of land, and it is beautiful.
And he has set aside a whole portion of the
(40:50):
farm for retiring his horses, so that they it's on
it's on the road between. It's midway row between, like
you're heading to frank Like you're in Midway and you
you go to Frankfort like yeah, like you're going to
frank Yeah, Frankfort Road would be.
Speaker 6 (41:07):
The right way.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Okay, I seldom go out that way.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
I go a lot to go in the street of
her Silt. But well, if you're heading, if you're driving
getting off the Interstate going by Midway to Frankfurt, and
the farm is on both sides of the road.
Speaker 6 (41:24):
Oh, and he's and he's adding what's the name of that.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Farm, Resolute Racing, Resolute.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Yeah. He is a wonder vision of any relation to
Mickey Steward, I.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
Don't I don't know. He's you know, he's got an
interesting story. I want to where Jamestown. He was born
in Jamestown, Kentucky. He worked on the line at Toyota,
was got an exceptional brain and got into management soon
(41:57):
and got this. Uh it's like a savant. Now owns
two hundred companies worldwide and has uh is giving back
to racing them and uh, I think he's going to
be among the most significant players in the business for
the years years to come. And uh and it's it's
(42:20):
been good to aftercare, well good. And he was born
where I believe Jamestown, Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
James to Stewarts, I know, of course Ireland and any
other one ones in England. So I don't really know any.
Speaker 3 (42:35):

mcgey Mickey Stewart's son.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
Oh yeah, right, he forgot it, Lindsay.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Lindsay, Yeah, Mickey owned that farm. There's still a barn
and two sitting there right on your lift if you're
going in in the Paris pipe, but right on the left.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Before you get to uh see a barn.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
Uh yeah, yeah, here's a barn sitting up there and there.
I don't know if there's any horses there and there.
I don't know. He had a nice horse that stood
down there.
Speaker 5 (43:14):
He was an English bred.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
Pop a foe away. What's his name? Yeah, yeah, but
he didn't make it a study here. But he was
a really nice printer over in England. I think he
I don't think he was ever beaten. Huh uh, well,

Yeah, it's the nicest people in his lovely bride rgging
do you know her? No?
Speaker 5 (55:08):
I do not know. I do not know her, but
but everybody says that she's she's very nice.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Super she does a lot of charity.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
She's very pretty too.
Speaker 5 (55:17):
Ah, I'm not does not shock me.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
She's a stunner.
Speaker 6 (55:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
Yeah, they came over to one of I had a
birthday party for me at homework for some reason, I
don't know why, but they were there. And anyway, that's
why I said homewood, No, I said at home.
Speaker 5 (55:35):
Oh you know, you know one of the things we
never named the farm.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
A little farm, Ursul said, Bank said, let him name it.
But you know we got post Time at inc. It's yeah,
name for the corporation.
Speaker 5 (55:57):
Well they got that copywriter and trademarks is a good law.
Speaker 1 (56:01):
Oh I got it in Frankfurt.
Speaker 5 (56:03):
Yeah that's a good Oh, that's a good man. Let me.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Get it.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
You'll go ahead. You're interrupted in my commercial. Oh again,
And anyway, they're Hill is a superior horseman, has been
all his life, still is. And I tell you what.
He's had years of experiences with the ben horses and
jumpers and steep pachasers and fox hunters and dussage horses.
(56:31):
And he used to I had to steep pa chase
a little bit. So he's got a little bit on
the nutty side. But maybe that's what makes him such
a good good guy. And ah and a great really
hurt Yeah. Here, here's how you get in touch with him.
Let me give you something number that's a good way
to get in touch with it. It's eighty five nine
number six year eight eighty thirty nine. Go to the
(56:53):
website which is Lexhorsefarms dot com. Great people, Ill and Parker.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Good. Yeah, I'm hoping that Thames will show up or
show just got over I guess, you know, take a.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Nice girl.
Speaker 3 (57:23):
I believe he just pulled in that game. And how
much fun are you having with your new job?
Speaker 6 (57:31):
Two years now?
Speaker 5 (57:34):
It has not been resty. It's not been quite two years.
It's been about uh seventeen months. And I and I
tell people this all the time. I don't think I've
ever had any more fun. Yeah, and it's a challenging job.
I mean, you know that there's a lot of it's
old friends has grown. You know, we've got five farms
(57:54):
to worry about, three hundred thoroughbreds to take care of.
But it is just so much fun and the people
are are that you encounter are just so so wonderful. Obviously,
working with Michael Blowing every day is unlike anything that's describable.
(58:16):
But I'm thoroughly enjoying it. And it's always good when
you know you're you're doing you're doing something that's worthy
and this is an important cause and uh, that's what
it is. It's a cause and we're making progress and
we're doing good things. So I'm having a blast. I'm
enjoying it thoroughly.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
You know when you think about it, Michael going out
on his zone doing this and look at what it's
involved to He's done a great thing. I mean, nobody
else did it.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
You got to dream the dream. Yeah, and it's.
Speaker 3 (58:53):
Good timing facility in the world.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
But it put retirement on the map. It did, it
put it put after did the national discussion of a
great industry.
Speaker 5 (59:05):
That's right, and and that's what we'll continue to do.
And I'm having funks. I get to be on on
horsetails every other week, so that that in and of itself, you.
Speaker 3 (59:17):
Know, night you overcome our inadequacy.
Speaker 5 (59:24):
Or what. It's always fun. I want to hear these
winners and uh, James is gonna make us get some
good coin in our pocket today?
Speaker 3 (59:34):
Yeah, I don't. I don't know, come visiting here St.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
John Well if Michael goes to the trailors are you
coming in sure?
Speaker 5 (59:43):
Okay, sure you're coming to say James.
Speaker 7 (59:46):
Yeah, I'm gonna come out there and visit you on
a Monday, them off on Sundays and Mondays.
Speaker 3 (59:51):
And I've been trying to get out there and because.
Speaker 5 (59:54):
I haven't been out there in a while. Oh man,
I'll give you the presidential tour will be great, right well.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Mags one the one we all want. He won the
Kentucky Derby. He won with a powerful of late charge,
coming from thirteen links out of it to win going away,
posting a one zero five speed figure that was the
fastest of any derby in the past fifteen years. Right
there in the Kentucky Derby, he finished his three year
old season as the leading three year old. Money went
(01:00:22):
up by being right there again in the Great One
Florida Derby, the Green one Preakness and Greade one High School.
He earned two million, five hundred and seven four hundred
and fifty dollars. Now Mage competed at the highest level,
living up to his pedigree, one of the best in
the books My Sire's Good Magic. The champion two year
old of his year, Grade one winner again at three,
earned over to Mellion nine hundred and forty five thousand
(01:00:45):
dollars and a son of the Great Curly Good Magic's
fee was a well deserved one hundred and twenty five
thousand dollars this year. The damn of Mage is a
great producer Pookah, a stakes winner of over two hundred
ninety nine thousand Grade two place major is full brother
is Donna, one of the classic Great one Belmont Sax,
the Great one Haskell, Grade two Fount of Youth, the
(01:01:06):
Grade two Remison. Now nearly as much as money as
Mage three hundred and forty seven and seven well tried
again three hundred and forty two for three million, four
hundred and twenty seven thousand, two hundred and seventy five dollars.
Get into all those figures. Now I get thrown. Then
the Herspooker's current three year old Beza, who has placed
(01:01:27):
in the Kentucky Derby, the Belmont and the Great one Sanity,
the Derby, and the Grade two Jim Dandy and earned
over nine hundred and forty eight thousand. Mage has it all.
He's a Kentucky Derby winner. He's a full brother that
has that won of Belmont and a half brother that's
knocking on the door and its rated as one of
the best three olders of this year. Plus he's a
gorgeous individual and he stands at one of the nation's
(01:01:49):
most successful farmers. Aired re stubbed. One of the signs
that aired stood called Shannon makaal at eight five nine,
eight seventy three, seventy two seventy and see the website
that airdry stud dot com. Now we're going to say
a little bit something about one of my great organizations
and one of my favorite ones, brisone dot com. You
(01:02:10):
got James Gully here to do it, Dame.
Speaker 7 (01:02:13):
And Hi Betsy real quick, Oh hey, thank you Earth
so Hi Jackie uh and I Betsy. The if you have,
if you're playing the if you're betting horses today, are
looking to handicap or get any pigs of selections, go
to bristnet dot com booth Sock Research Information Services. We
(01:02:33):
have all the tip sheets and now it'sis handicap reports.
We have like Fair Odds Reports, Cocker Reports after we
think our pps are the best out there, and have
the data plans for if you have handicapped subscription or
data files if you have a handicap software and much
(01:02:54):
much more brisnet dot com. It's a handicappers edge and
we got a fortieth I guess it's I think it's
the fortieth or running of the Army two million today
or maybe forty first, but it is at Colonel Downs
now for the third consecutive year. It's a Grade one.
(01:03:16):
Steak has Integration's going to be the favorite in it.
He ran second and last year's Million Into Nations Pride
and also has Mistake Dan, last year's Kentucky Derby winner.
He's switching to the turf the first time. You guys know,
the last Triple Crown race winner to win a Grade
(01:03:37):
one race on turf.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Really Secretariat.
Speaker 7 (01:03:42):
No, I mean he definitely did. It was war Well
he won the Premints of twenty nineteen and then won
the Great One Makers Mark Yeah the following year for
Mark Cassie, And so that's what missing Dan. He's got
some turf pedigree, but he still has to switch Surpass.
You know, it could work out like it had it
(01:04:03):
did for Warbell and other good horses.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
Kenny mcge he's gonna try.
Speaker 7 (01:04:08):
Yeah, yeah, he's gonna try. And uh but we'll see,
you know, I'm I'm I'm betting the race, so I'm
gonna try to beat him in there. But I'll definitely
be happy if he wins, because I thought it was
great to see him come back and for him and
win that Blamed stakes this year at Churchill and he
actually it's not a bad effort. I mean, mine frame
is undefeated this year and look and beat Sierra Leone
(01:04:30):
winning the Stephen Foster, So that was a tough race
last out at Churchill. They also have the Great two
Beverly d. The horse in there is the favorite in
there is be your Best. She exit took convincing winning
the Grade one gamely at Santa Anita in May. But
there's definitely some rivals in there and some speed signed
on and she's a front runner. And then they have
(01:04:53):
the Great two Secretary at stakes for three year olds
that ed and the strongest edition of that dream on.
It's a probable favorite and the horse to beat off
of a win in the pen mile, and then you
have four supporting steaks. I think the undercard is really good.
Vetable really a good undercard. I like a horse and
(01:05:14):
race number seven, Cartgirl Sam. That's my pick of the day.
It's the Andy Gas Steaks for Philly Samyers sprinting on
the turf and number eight Cartgirl Sam six to one
on the morning line with Hobby or Castelano. I think
she's poised for a big effort. At Saratoga today, they
got the Grade one Sword Dancer that's highlighted by far Bridge.
(01:05:38):
But there's a pair of good Dolphin runners for Charlie
Appleby Shipping in there, including Nation's Pride and won last
year's million. But his stablemate Lot Canvas something has a chance.
And then they run the Saratoga Oaks. I think that's
a Grade two a couple of races earlier, and that
looks a little top heavy to me. You got undefeated
(01:05:58):
Laurlin in there for Grand Motion, who's coming off a
win in the Pen Oaks, and Opulent Restraint is a
second choice on the morning line for Chad Brown, and
I think one of those two will probably win a
short odds. So that's uh, those are the big races.
You also got the yellow Ribbon good Phillya Mayor turf
(01:06:19):
Steak at del Mar today, and you know, I think
Delmar might have another steak in the you know, what
bind might have a steak race ol Ellis too. Ellis
has a couple of steak races, but really the big
card is tomorrow at Ellis. They got five steaks, they
got the Ellis Park Derby and some other good sakes.
(01:06:41):
You know, I was, I was glad. I mean, I
know he's going to be the favorite in Ellis Park
Derby tomorrow. But Admiral Dennis, I think that Constitution Colt
is going to be good in the future. He's a
three year old for Brad Cox and off of that
win in the Delaware Derby. You know, he tried him
in the Bluegrass and some big races earlier this year,
and he isn't up up the par but he uh,
(01:07:04):
he's coming on now. And he could have run him
in the Traverse where he would have once again probably
been over his head. And it said he's going this
Ellis Park Derby. So I like that movie. He's kind
of three year old that could come on this fall.
I think, uh, del Delmar Admiral Dennis in the Delmar Derby,
and God, I keep saying del Mar, Admiral de Admiral
(01:07:26):
Dennis in the Ellis Park Derby tomorrow. That highlights five
stakes at Ellis Park, some good races.
Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
Easy for you to say, let me ask you a questions. Yes,
you get the clockers same.
Speaker 7 (01:07:40):
Day, same day. Yeah, they used to go with that
that morning. You know the cocker Okay, cocker.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Here, rides all the stuff down, takes it over to
the office. I guess what they they either they get
it out, Yeah, they send it to you guys.
Speaker 7 (01:08:00):
Yeah, they're probably posting itself. I mean they have like
some kind of access to some kind of intra menu
or something and they just basically load it and then
it basically goes through the process of anything does okay,
because we're constantly updating PPS and results and everything on
the website, and there's you know, but there's you know
(01:08:22):
that that kind of stuff is how how they do it?
I don't know for sure. And there's various clockers, you know.
We have.
Speaker 5 (01:08:30):
We have.
Speaker 7 (01:08:32):
Bruno that works for Bruno and and he's out there
clocking every morning himself, but he had some other people
that work for him, so he has works at different
circuits and and then we also have for del mar
in Southern California Racing, Andy Harrington's cocker handicamper Report I
(01:08:54):
forget what it's called Cocker report, and that's pretty good. Uh,
he's not picking them one, two, three, four like Bruno is.
He's rating, but you're seeing every work that he sees
or his team sees, and they're giving it a grade
like A to F. So it's pretty rare CNA or
N a minus. But you see him every once in
a while, and b pluses are really good. And I
(01:09:16):
think you know those handicapping things, they can have value.
Horses can be coming on at the cheapest claiming level
and can be flashing that in the morning, so they
can't have value in any race, but they're obviously have
more importance than these races that are made and races
so lots of first time starters because you're getting a
lot of those at this time of year with two
(01:09:37):
year olds. At Saratoga Del mar Ellis Park last week
we saw a two year old called but Taine by
Tis the Law for Bob Baffert. It was real impressive winning.
Kidding me peek had a horse at one of going
a mile that's gonna be good because this second start
(01:10:00):
he had run second the dazzled di' aro who was
real impressive and unfortunately broke down in a workout. But
and then even at Saratoga you had this horse ted
Knaffi by into mischief I believe, yeah, yeah, exactly, and
he was impressive. He ran faster than Ewing did, who
(01:10:22):
won the Saratoga Special a couple of races later. But Ewing,
you know, he's still classwise, would probably crush any made
winner right now because he would. He beat Abliteration and
he had to run to beat him in Obliteration was
real good for Asthmas and Ewing is now two for two,
probably the best two year old out there based on
that Saratoga Special win. But all of it can change,
(01:10:45):
it can be all real fluid. He's by Nick Scoe.
Nick Sco is off to fast start at stud has
a bunch of winners, including Ewing, who's just brilliant so
far for Mark Cassey. And you know I saw good
peace on him recently. Where it'd be good to see
(01:11:05):
a horse like Nixco be a successful sire because he's
a good outcross with he doesn't have any prominent sires
in his immediate He's by Painter and he doesn't have
like any of these big time sires right now. In
his immediate bloodline, so you get a little bit, like
I said, of you can mix up those bloodlines and
(01:11:28):
if he's a good sire, he's a good sire. It
doesn't matter what his bloodlines are. Yeah, your Pond's a
leading freshman sire. But you know, you know the old horses,
well maybe, but I mean I'm a little bit dubious
of his ability to throw, like you know Trible, you know,
(01:11:48):
Triple Crown race horses. You know, I look at these
other runner horses out there, like Maxfield and uh gosh,
there's a bunch of them that are coming along, you know,
see uh what Charlatan And there's a bunch of them
there coming along with their first runners this year. That
to me, I got more interest in. But I'm not
(01:12:10):
surprised to see you upon. He's really fast and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
You know, maybe his runners will be really.
Speaker 7 (01:12:15):
Good mental distance sources and if they have the right
dam they'll they'll go as far as they need to go.
So uh, you know, I don't want to be critical
of them, but you're getting a lot of speed seemingly.
Speaker 5 (01:12:29):
Yesterday, No where was it at Steraratota. It was a
big special I think it Flewid was.
Speaker 7 (01:12:36):
Flying oh yeah, oh oh yeah, they closed up the
rail with uh yeah with uh who was on that
horse Castlelano. Yeah, that one horse it got like it
came rolling in the stretch. Of course I saw that
that was a maiden race. Uh, that was crazy. And
angled him to the rail and then he shot like,
(01:12:56):
you know, like he was shot out of a cannon
as uh.
Speaker 5 (01:13:01):
I forget, I forget, but.
Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
I forget. Go ahead.
Speaker 7 (01:13:10):
Well he was like twenty five to one or maybe
thirty to one. So yeah, but I remember that race.
Speaker 5 (01:13:17):
Well I was watching that race. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:13:20):
So and even today, you got some good maiden races
even I think that at Colonial and Saratoga and Delmar,
all those tracks. I haven't really looked at Elis's card
that close today. I look primarily just at the stakes.
But the following weekend, next Saturday, we're gonna have the
Alabama at Saratoga, which is promising to be a really
(01:13:40):
good race. You're gonna get good cheer, you're gonna get
Nitrogen's going to the dirt. You're gonna get her her
stable mate who just won the acorn. That Cassie Philly
won the acorn. She was in the Oaks and Scottish
(01:14:01):
lassie who just romped in the Coaching Club American Oaks
is going to be in there possibly this click it
for Ala Alabama next Saturday, so I'm excited to see it.
It's gonna be a big time three year old Philly race.
And I'm of the belief that the Breeders' Cup Disstaff
is pretty you know, you got to repeat and obviously,
but once you get past her, there's not a lot
(01:14:22):
of depth in the Phillia Mayor division. So these three
year ol Phillies could potentially play a role in that
racist fall. It's it's like even with the Classic, the
Breeders' Cup Classic, we saw Sierra Leone win here, you know,
the Whitney recently. But you know, I'm a little bit
dubious if he can be consistent enough to win the Classic.
(01:14:44):
They went forty four and change at one oh nine
and change and last year's Classic, and to me, that's
the atypical running of it. They're typically a much more
moderate pace or you know, manageable pace, and and he's
he's only won two of his last eight start. I
see Sovereignty as the clear horse to be right now
(01:15:04):
in the Reader's Cup Classic, and I wouldn't be surprised
if journalism or by ASA played a role, or even
a horse like Niceos in California, who's going to the
Pacific Classic. He played a role because these horses on
the East Coast. We'll see how mind Frame does in
the Jockey Cup Gold Cup. He could be the best
of them all if he can get the mile and
a quarter distance in there, because he's the only one
(01:15:26):
that's shown any consistency this year. He's three for three
for Pletcher and comes off a really good win. The
real question with him is ten furlongs.
Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
He's going to Clayburn.
Speaker 7 (01:15:40):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, listen, I'm a big fan of his.
I thought his win. He ran a huge race in
the Churchill Downs Sprint at seven furlongs to win off
the bench have that race.
Speaker 5 (01:15:52):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:15:52):
I wasn't on him, but I was saying, you know,
on the air at Churchill after it, I was like,
that's one of the best stretcher is You'll see. I
mean my hair was standing up on my arm and
it was really thrilling. There were five horses in there
with the Chance and Nisos and Milliken dead heated for second,
and mind Frame beat him by head or neck, and
then the other two right there banishing and oh and
(01:16:14):
book them Dano, who's come back to be the best
sprinter in America. So went back to back the True
North and the Vanderbilt. So yeah, that was a great race.
And then mind frame, he comes off a real big
race and non furlongs. The problem is fierceness is there.
You know, he could win the Reader's Cup Classic, but
(01:16:35):
he just hasn't run back to his race in Ali
Sheiba now losing two in a row. Why Debario looked
great winning the Pegasus World Cup earlier this year, but
he's been sort of flat. I mean they're not running poorly,
they're just not running what, you know, their best races
to me. You know, even in that Whitney, you know
it's Highland Falls is challenging for the the win and
(01:16:57):
Deep Stretch that's who Sierra Leone runs by and arm
runs third. So all the other big names there's none
in the mix in Deep Stretch. So I'm a little
dubious of the older horse ses. They could definitely get
it together because it's still a talented bunch, but Sovereignty
is the best older hor I mean it's the best
Breeders Cup Classic contender out there right now in my eyes.
Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Yeah, he's the over cold no doubt about that already.
Speaker 7 (01:17:23):
Well, it's good to see you all. I'll be back
next Saturday. I won't be here on travers. I'll text
her as some pics in two weeks, but i'll be
back next Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
Okay, looking forward to it already. Thank you so much. James.
It's James Cully from Bloodstuck Research Information Services and let's
see where are we now? Uh yeah, I'm looking for cleban.
Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
I wanted to ask him when Ursa was clocking.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
Buy me a clebron in there.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
When Ursa was calking. If it came up real misty
in the morning, you couldn't see the other side of
the track. They call it working off.
Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
The shout and off the yell, off the yell.
Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
Yeah, and see you could put a little ask risk
down there because the rider would go yeah and ursul
push button.
Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
You have to factor in the speed of sound.
Speaker 1 (01:18:24):
Yeah, the fact and seeing I thought you put a
little aster in there about how you came up with
that hour.
Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
We used to send those things in and they would
get them to the Jockey Club and whatever they said
about a Yeah, we used to have it used to
be awful on occasions. I remember that one day that
you and I were working out here. We had I
(01:18:55):
think it was like one hundred and seventeen works and
one morning we.
Speaker 1 (01:19:00):
Were both using about four stop watch it in front
of us. One two to four.
Speaker 3 (01:19:05):
We did it. It was yeah, we got it done.
When it was all over, Jim Pentagraphs were standing having
to be standing behind us. Yeah, and we got we
we kind of relaxed just a second like that. And yeah,
I heard him say that was ugly.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
But I'll never forget working out of the off the pole.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Oh yeah, shout off the pole. Yeah, that's when you
could tell.
Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
From the gate because he gave many noise.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
They had a little run from the gate.
Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
Maybe it's about twenty yards there, you know, so the
little leg is needless to say it. These works works
were not the most act in the world.
Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
When Ursul first started, I was up there for some
reason by myself, and somebody from the Racing Commission came up.
You're the claw, said Lord, now my husband is doing
the clockt well, does he bet? I said, well, truthfully, no,
Well I never heard of one that didn't bet, I said, well,
(01:20:24):
you're looking at him.
Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
That was okay, we'll blame it's desire. Grade one winners
Wet Paint, Marley's Freedom, Maydal, Singer, Fault Abscan. Two of
them won't classics. Wet Paint won the Grade one Coaching
Club of American Oaks at Saratoga, and Singer the Grade
one French Oaks. Here is sied fifty two stage runners.
(01:20:47):
Listen to this. Thirteen percent of his folds now we're
talking about folds not starter have earned black type. So
we have a great chance of black type in your marriage.
Produce record. We blame and runners. They level route of
ground and competed at a high level. Wet Paint earned
over million, two hundred and eighty three thousand, Nay down
over a million, Sanger Fout, March Maroon, blamed officiating and
(01:21:12):
mis bad behavior each earned over half a million dollars.
And here's a bonus. Flames daughters are becoming collector's items.
The recent Grade one Switzerland is out of a blame marriage.
So is Forte so was one more time both Grade
one winners. Already this year his daughters have produced thirty
three stakes winners. According to a study published by Thirdbord
(01:21:32):
Daily News, Blame is the top ten sire amongst science
with at least one hundred starters by percent of the
stakes winners. Blame one on the Cliff Sword one who
covered in Grade one Breeders' Cup Classic, Grade one Whitney
Stakes Grade one Stephen Foster and he earned four million,
three hundred and sixty eight seven. He has proven to
be a great source of stamina. Great Bud Claybron farmy
(01:21:54):
stands at Clavernd Farm for more than the Clayburn statius
called Jacob west at eight five nine nine eight seven
two three three old. The website is samanfarm dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Okay if you works here about our friends A claims
in Paris. They have the Hope Well Insurance agency and
we've been oh we've been in Bourban County thirty something years,
so we've been with them thirty something years. Absolutely the best.
(01:22:28):
It's real interesting when you talk to them because the
way they've set it up, it's it's very it's very
helpful for them and it's extremely helpful for a client.
They're an independent insurance agency. They don't work for a
big mega insurance company, and you know what that means.
(01:22:50):
That means you're a number and you can press thirty
seven numbers for whatever country you're in or whatever, which
means when you're with a big insurance company, you're a number.
So that's not what we're dealing with here. What they
do is it's very clever. They use a carefully selected
(01:23:14):
group of financially sound, reputable companies so they can pick
around and see who you match up with, and a
result of that they can offer the same. They will
give you a comparison of your old insurance with what
they find for you the new insurance, so that means
(01:23:37):
they can give you a no cost, no obligation review
in comparison of what you got now. There Hope well Company.
It's very good, it's very clever. The Hope Weld Company
in Paris established in nineteen fifty five, which is another
indication if they're doing it right, because they're still in
business so they're full service insurance agency. Give him a
(01:24:01):
call ninety eight seven two three four seven. That's eighty
five eight seven two three four seven that are yet.
Stop by the office there at eight twenty Main Street
in Paris and they will just work with you. They're
great people and they'll do a great job for you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursa ellis.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
All right, Well, we've got our good friend.
Speaker 6 (01:24:35):
Doctor Friday Barton Waldridge. Yeah, Brian Waldridge had on the phone, and.
Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
I won't I won't mention any.
Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
Names, Brian, but I'm a mutual friend of ours and
a little bit older than I am. Had a little
health scare earlier in the week and had a minor
heart attack. But he's he's home and recovering. Put one
stand in and uh he went in that night and
(01:25:07):
then put.
Speaker 6 (01:25:09):
The stand in in the morning and he went home.
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
I excuse him of taking.
Speaker 6 (01:25:14):
The bit in his teeth and running off. So but anyway,
he's okay.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
That's as all as they could keep him still. If
I had to, yes, go ahead. Well, I said, it's
probably as long as they can keep him still, if
I had to, yes.
Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's he's standing still. If I've talked
for him every day since got.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Back, well i'll give I'll give it. I'll give him
a call then, because that reminds me.
Speaker 7 (01:25:44):
I need to do that.
Speaker 6 (01:25:45):
You got do it?
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
Read?
Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
I would love it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
Yeah, all right, I'll do it. I'll do it.
Speaker 6 (01:25:52):
That I mentioned it over the air, I won't, I won't.
All right, Well, what's going on down in Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
State, Well there's still something in Kentucky if folks are interested.
Somebody sent me a video last night of that you
know that horse that was Rabbit in Kentucky. It was
at doctor justin Murray's place, which I think is up
in Danville's where the horse ended up being hospitalized.
Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
But I think it was.
Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
Channel eighteen had videos of that horse, that Rabbit's horse,
and showed his behavior. They said he was chewing on
the stall to the point that broke his teeth off.
And that's what I'm seeing in a lama. We had
a lama in the teaching herd at Auburn that came
up rabbit and she couldn't spit, which you know lamas
(01:26:47):
get mad, they won't fit. But she would charge the
front of the stall. Somehow our caretakers got her to
the stall, I did, and she would charge you and
bounce off the stall as she'd come off her deal.
Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
They don't do like cows.
Speaker 2 (01:27:01):
I have mood teeth, but she'd broken off her teeth.
Speaker 6 (01:27:04):
Charges.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
So if anybody's interested. I think I just googled it
last night, but you could get the Channel eighteen rabbit
horse and then there's videos of it of that horse
and it's abnormal behavior, so that's really.
Speaker 7 (01:27:19):
Cool for him.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
I want to see what they do. Usually in in
you know, real roommates, horses, grass eating animals. Usually you
get got out the dumb rabies, you know, where they're
just not very responsive. In the press, it's a little
unusual to have them be aggressive, but this one fairly
is pretty aggressive. So anyway, for interest, it's worth looking
(01:27:41):
at if everybody wanted to do that. But I'm working
on them retained placenta and we got a little fold
little Arabian fole this week, and Mayor's got some retained placenta.
It's almost all out of her. But you know, if
anybody's ever had to deal with that, you know, sometimes
they can take a day or two, and I've had
to up to five days. But this the spot that
(01:28:03):
that marriage usually retain their percenta is at the non
pregnant horn, So you know, when you're mar foles, it's
always important to lay that placenta out has more or
less like a big U on each side of the
u the two horns of her uterus, and then at
the bottom it's well called the body and the eater
(01:28:23):
is kind of why shaped, uh, And so you lay
that out and you can look and see one side
of it that you is, is bigger than the other,
and the big side is where the fole was. And
then on the smaller side you know, called the non
pregnant horn. And when you want to look at the
end of those horns, and to me it looks just
like a tomb sock. And if you look at the
(01:28:46):
far end of that smaller horn, a non pregnant horn,
you want to make sure it goes there's there's a
little cup like a tomb sock there, and well you
want to do that for both sides and make sure
that there's no retained placenta, so that that's really important.
Everybody contucky is great about that. But sometimes the foling season,
you know, you get because I've done it, you know,
you get busy and you kind of don't look at
(01:29:09):
those percentas maybe as quick as you should, you know,
get everything else downe and go back and look at them.
But it's really important to lay that placenta out. You know,
turn it inside out to the smooth side of the
placenta is where the foal is. But the other side,
the kind of rough, velvety side, that's the side that
goes to the uterus. And so you also want to
(01:29:30):
look at that because you know, if there's infection, yeah
it'll be sons. You won't see that velvety look to
it because that those because it's disrupted. And what happens
with horse percenta if you look at it in the microscope,
it's literally like velcrow. That placenta, you know, just attaches
itself into the uterus, and that's it's a little harder
(01:29:51):
to get them out because you get you're essentially breaking
down a velcrow. Cows are remnants there. It's kind of
leading area, which means it's like little but there's attaches
in different spots. But in horses, you're breaking down velcrow.
So I've got to go after that horn today and
try to get out. I got a piece of it
out yesterday, and I sawthing other piece of it yesterday
(01:30:12):
afternoon flushing her. But I want to see that non
pregnant horn come out in my hand today and I
can send her home.
Speaker 3 (01:30:20):
Okay, good, that's cold going.
Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
He's doing well. I haven't seen any pictures of him.
You probably saw that Motown set old set. I think
it's a three year old set of a world record
at Ellis Park yesterday going five and a half six
and a half. So I want that, so I hope
(01:30:46):
he'll have some of that speed.
Speaker 6 (01:30:49):
Yeah, I missed it.
Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
I gotta watch the way. I got two texts about
it last night, two different people sent me a text
of the story. And I gotta go find that race
of watching.
Speaker 3 (01:31:02):
They're gonna raise that horses stud figure sooner or later,
they're gonna have be forced to, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
I mean, he's had some good ones this year, so hopefully,
hopefully they'll all keep doing good for everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
Well, he's had a bunch of them too good. You know,
it's more than one. He's got a he's thirteen five.
I don't know how many stakes winners. He has now
grated stakes winners too.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
He's under there. But lady with the picture of Rocky,
the lady that helped raise him when he was hurt,
that they had him in their board here and start, well,
they're they're taking a vacation to Kentucky just so she
go up and see him, so I thought that was
(01:31:49):
kind of cool.
Speaker 6 (01:31:49):
They're gonna go.
Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
And stay and oh Bardstown per day, and then they're
gonna go to I guess Midway and stay Midway several
days to see Kentucky and I totally he'll go out
to the sale. So she's really attached to him. She
gave you the name Rocky, so she's making a special
trip for some of her friends to go see him.
Speaker 3 (01:32:13):
Well, good, Well, let us know about that when you talk.
After you talk to it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Yeah, I'll send you a picture. I'll send you his
latest pictures. I don't think I showed since his latest ones.
Speaker 6 (01:32:24):
You see what you think?
Speaker 3 (01:32:26):
Okay, all right, my friend will I'm going to roll
along as good. You're talking to you, and you you're
talking about all right, see you later.

Tali Van Sally Van Service has been in business for
good lords. It's funny this paper started out thirty forty
fifty sixty years ago and now it's longer. During that time,
many of the greatest runners ever to step in a
racetrack has been entrusted to their care and they've learned
(01:44:36):
a lot of a long way. And it's obvious their
vehicles and equipment are in tip top shape. But the
most single, most important safety factor is the ability and
experience of the guy behind the wheel. They're very proud
of their van drivers. That's Sali horse fans. They're experienced drivers,
(01:44:58):
experienced horsemen. Whether when you take yours hort, excuse me,
that's a winning combination. So think about that the next
time you take your horse somewhere across the county or
across the country. When you load into a Sally Van,
(01:45:18):
you can depend on the fact that the person behind
the wheel is one of the best in the business.
Folks at sally Van wouldn't have any other way. That's
why more than half a century Sally Horse fans at
Local number two five to five nine four o six
the safest way of the winner's circle.
Speaker 4 (01:45:44):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and urso ellis, I.
Speaker 3 (01:45:48):
Won't take a little break here and do something for
calling feeds. Not mcaull. It feeds for Joe Palmer and
read something got our Carrol, Eddy, our Carrol, he wrote
back in the forties. So here we go. There's no
(01:46:09):
limit to what a press agent will do for publicity.
Last Saturday, for instance, the New York publisher got out
of budding Arthur and put him on a horse in
Jamaica before fifty two thousand spectators. Our afore, of course,
to that distinguished literary rival, George E. R. Carroll, who
went along with the gag and turned up in the
(01:46:31):
winter circle inclosure with a lot of white. That was
pure advertising for the fourth coming his forthcoming book, I
Ride the End. You wouldn't suspect Master Edward, who, being
a classicist at least I have never heard anyone at
Jamaica lean over the rail and yeah, what are you
doing with that horse? You stupid classics? But he is
(01:46:52):
held to the classical tradition, as will be shown, all men,
wrote an earlier Italian autobiographer Benefuto Celini, who have done
anything of merit, of which verrely has a semblance of mery.
If so they are a man of truth and good
to refute, should write the tale of their life with
(01:47:12):
her own hand. Yet it were best that they should
not set out so fine an enterprise until they have
passed their fortieth year. Eddie or Carroll has released his
autobiography in his thirty fifth year, But it was not
the first time he had made a wrong count. As
he relates in his book, he once pulled up blue
(01:47:33):
hills in the Pimlical Cup handicapped in nineteen forty nine,
when there was still one complete circuit of the feminical
restract to be completed. But he has done some things
of merit. Celini cast a bronze Medusa and hammered out
veryous salt dishes and art armities. He did not write
any derby wines at all, whereas Master Kenny has had
(01:47:57):
no fewer than five celeni, he did not hold scrupulously
to his intention. I had begun to write this life
of myself, of my own hand, but I reflected that
I was losing too much time. So falling in with
the son of Michele de Gore, a land of about
fourteen years and weekly, I set him to write for me,
(01:48:19):
he confessed, sure enough. On the table title page of
I Ride the Wind, there is a note as told
of Jack O'Hara. Mister O'Hara is slightly over fourteen years
old and could hardly be referred to as weekly. No matter,
Master Edward followed the Celini tradition, he followed it in
(01:48:39):
another way, too, for he will find much to discredit
his set down. He has he had missed, sometimes found
an alien saddle call clutched in his hand. He has
occasionally found another jockey's leg firmly locked in his home,
and he's used as whip for purposes not authorized by
the rooms for racing. But his justification is simple, and
(01:49:02):
I think sam if a jock showed the slightest trace
of cowardness, it would get awfully rough out there. If
you were competing with men who were aware of their
own particular all sons were fading, and they were scented
of moving into their places, they would leave. They fought
to and you fought them back. If Ourkara spent some
(01:49:23):
of his early years trying to put his contemporaries into
the infield. His most determined effort was made on the
Since on Darcy in the nineteen forty two Calvin, he
has spent his flat of years putting him in the middle.
Once on Pabot in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, he
had Basil James making the pace with Stymy with a
(01:49:46):
full mile ago, which bewildered Stymy so much that he
was beaten five lengths. But the great example was the
Manhattan Handicap of nineteen forty four the turf Riders. The
turf Riders charged me with it ran largely into Manhattan. Anyways,
it was not merely grand, it was magnificent. Since Devil
(01:50:07):
Driver was the only one on the four horse field
with any speed, it was obvious he would make the pace.
Since bowling Brake was bowling Broke was the stretch runner
of the four, it was obvious that neither of the
other two should burn themselves out. Chasing Devil Driver. You
could have run a race on paper the night before
Our Carol, with an assist from John Gaber. Devil drivers
(01:50:30):
trainer did just rout that. Alix Barth went to the
turn in front with Pharol Zoo felt looking on both
sides to see why the heck somebody didn't pass him.
Bowling Broke, for the first time in his life, was
slugging along against the bit trying to run. Caribou was
lumbering a long puzzled but pleased to find a field
(01:50:50):
he could stay up with Our Carol, and Devil Driver won't,
galloping along happily at a pace almost any horse could
hold indefinitely. The first quarter was run in twenty six
and four, which was bad enough. The second was running
twenty eight and four. Horsemen speak of slow races as
(01:51:10):
