Speaker 3 (04:26):
Okay, Well, here we are because due to circumstances beyond
our ability to take care of we had no one
to take care of Betchy today, and that means we
had to stay home and take care of her.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, she's out there in the dining room on one
of those video players watching Harry Potter. It works for me.
I think I'll go out there with her. No, you're not,
you know, I wonder nobody's named the horse Harry Potter. Okay,
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
They may not have let them do it. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Oh that's true too. Yeah, there's Dwarf Vader instead of
Darth Vader and the Runner.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, I think I've got something to say from about him,
didn't I just say it? No, you just didn't.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I don't know, I think I did.

we have a stick out there that says seven. That's it. Yeah,
offences that moved in the front.
Speaker 3 (06:04):

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Oh they've got all kind of stakes going in New York. Yeah,
we'll have Normally we just watch uh Ellis Park and
those tracks, you know, Yeah, but we'll have to watch
the New York tracks. You have to go to a
different channel to get your New New York, right. I know,
(06:33):
I think there's running five Grade one steaks.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
You know, well I think so too.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
We've got some news over there, Jackie, what right there?
What is the jockey.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, oh what Ronnie Turcott, Yeah, yeah, Ronnie turkutt eighty
four good.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Sarah cause he was, of course Sarah Tago's writer, I
mean secretarious writer.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah. And riever Ridge.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yeah. Did you adde him too? I guess you did. Yeah.
He had been confined to a wheelchair and last year
he was the last few years of his life. It
was eighty four. Tells you how many I think he won?
Three thousand races? Tells you something up at the top.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Three thousand and thirty two. Yeah, it's a lot of races.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
That's off. We're good on a shortened career.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yes, yeah, we lived.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
They wrote a pretty good one that day, didn't he. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
And you know they're going to put up a mural
of speaking of Sunday silence on Main Street in Paris.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Now we got Secretariat, we got curling, and now we're
gonna have Sunday silence.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
And you know, I think it's the same woman painting
them all. I hope so, because she's good.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
It's very good, I think, And it's really good.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
If they all march.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yea Arthur and Sunday Silence, I wonder if he nay
I never did ask him, and I may have maybe
I did ask him and forgot to him and forgotten him.
But whether he named Sunday Silence after the song, remember
that Sunday and he wrote Sunday Something coming down? Yeah,
(08:23):
yeah he wrote that, did he? Yeah, recorded it. We
got it somewhere.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Oh yeah, to help us if they want us to
find it.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
There's because he was just inducted into the Hall of Fame.
I think I hear Michael coming. Michael, come in, bring
your own beard a folding chair anyway, secretary and over
(08:56):
that that day.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
That's really good piece of weren't there. Yeah, drive down
Main Street. You passed it on the left and you
can't miss it. It's huge.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Michael.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
There's Michael. How are you doing good?
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Oh? You got that's even brought his racing for him's day,
big day to day, big day to day all over
well with also our last horse. I know. I was sad. Yeah, yeah, friends,
this is Michael Browin from old friends. Oh, just came
(09:32):
back from feeding the cats. Got to feed the cats first.
Now I don't know a lot eighty nine.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah, we got one.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
In the office maybe, yeah, I guess that's yeah. I
let Prady in about five o'clock in Fader this morning.
And maybe we got a cat named Pradie Prady cat.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I wish some of ours were more fraidy.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
We got four at a time.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
She likes it outside, but she comes inside. Matter of fact,
I'm times she comes inside to using a litter box.
No ours do too.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, they go back out.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
Yeah, but that kind of sometimes think complaining.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
But if we don't clean it out.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Fast enough, that's still you're jail. Well kind of, no, no,
most mostly Diane does that. That's ben eat, not conduct,
you know exactly.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
She said, I got childish if I want to eat,
to clean it kind of kind of team up.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Well, she's date. You know, there's not much.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
To it, not too much. And then I have to
give some trauma. Is this is pastor's crumbs before I leave.
But he's doing good now. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. He
was losing weight a few months ago. He wasn't looking
so hot. Oh, it wasn't eating much, looked a little
it's hot. Yeah, that's part of it. But you know
he's old too, he's thirty one years old. You always
(10:58):
begin to worry, and I like for all of them,
you don't know, you know, it's like your horses. I mean,
it's just the one day they're just gone. So but anyway,
in the meantime, before he goes, before he says, before
you go, he says, look at it. You know what
he says to me, I'm gonna beat you at the wire.
(11:18):
We've got a picture of a silver charm and Jackie
hanging up and the will show it to you. Oh great,
him hanging over the fence.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
And yeah, it's kind of a trick photograph. I mean
it looks like he's being real friendly and hugging on
me and stuff. And once you don't see a little
lower below the.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Edge of the picture is I got a.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Thing pull of character.
Speaker 6 (11:42):
He's a smart guy.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I know what's going on. But Tay's beautiful day out.
I mean, look it's beautiful. Yeah. Nice. Are you going
to the chapel of the day? Yes, okay, I don't
like you missed a holy day of obligation. That's right, Traveridge.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Day is that I'm obligated.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
They're obligated.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I am obligated. Yeah, I'm not there.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
Unfortunately, lights to be sitting on the porch of Washington
today waiting to oooh out there in post times like
eleven o'clock it's Saratoga. It was the weather up there today.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Is it good? I think so, yeah, but I'm not
I'm not sure I will talk to Joe yet.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
But I think the weather that's bad is to the
east of the Central You saw that, I guess.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah. Ron Turkott passed away aged four years old. He
was the greatest guy. I mean, years and years ago.
I don't know how many years ago.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
It was thirty years ago maybe, yeah, whatever his book
came off.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
He I called up. I got in touch with some
people and I asked him if I could go and
interview Ron Turcott up in Canada, and so he agreed
and I went, and it was just amazing. He uh
you know by that time, you know, he couldn't he
had he needed a wheelchair all the time, but he
had They had outfitted this truck for him and he
(13:11):
uh and he drove it.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Oh, I didn't know that.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Yeah, I had an had a little platform that would
come out and pick him right up and put the wheelchair.
So that was the chair that he said when he drove,
of course, and he goes uh anyway, so he invited
invited Diana and I up there, and we went and
he said, meet me at the donut shop, Tim Horton's
donut Shop, which we did, and then we went over
(13:38):
to his house and sat in his house and he
talked to he and his wife and talking about his
life in his career.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
At that point, he he said, how come nobody asked
me about anything secretary exactly? And I said, Ron, most
people think the Secretary is the greatest their bread whoever lived,
and you got to bry him, and everybody wants to
know what that's like, and they want to know some
personal things and what your relationship is like the hors
(14:08):
and with Penny and everything like that. Yeah, I said,
it really drives Jean Crugey crazy too, because everybody only
asked him about Seattle Slew and Chugay's favorite horse was
Hoysted Fly like Toyst the Flag.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Well, you know that's what Penny Tweety said. Ursa went
out to interview her one time, and he didn't know
maybe mentioned Secretary at once, but he talked about the meadow,
He talked about all their other horses, and on and
on and on and she said she loved it. She said,
nobody ever asked me about that, and they had a
(14:44):
really nice interview.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, when Penny lived.
Speaker 6 (14:47):
In Lexington, beg yeah, we became friendly and every couple
of months we go out to eat and you know,
we see him and all that. Well, one afternoon she
calls me and she goes, Michael says, you throw a baseball.
I said, you know, Penny, that's like one of the
few things I can do.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Not really well, but I can do it.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
And she said, I said why. She said, well, they've
asked me to throw out the first pitch at the
Lexington Legends game and I don't know how to do it.
Can you come over here and show me? I said, yeah,
When do you want me to come up? She goes,
you know, a couple hour or two. I said, okay,
So off I go. I go over there, I think
in the living room of her house on Holiday Road
and h and I get on one end my glove
(15:34):
and my ball and she gets on the other end.
You know, I gave her the glove, that's right, I gave.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Her the club.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
And she's sitting she's standing in front of the sofa
and behind her in the sofa is this gigantic, almost
life sized painting of her mother. And she says, uh,
you better move over a little bit because I don't
if I if you missed the mall. I don't want
us to go through mother I saw. After a few
cursory lessons in how to toss a baseball around, she goes,
(16:06):
how long have I known you? I said, Petty, must
be three or four years since we moved here, but
you know, yeah, and she goes, I can trust you,
can't I? I said, ye, I'd like to think so.
So she says, I'm going to let you go upstairs.
She can go upstairs me. You have to promise me
one thing. I said, okay, what's that? She goes that
you won't take anything, you won't steal anything. I said, okay,
(16:29):
I'll resist the temptation.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Is that miss tweeting?
Speaker 6 (16:32):
Yeah? Yeah, I know, and she goes, okay. So I
go upstairs and it's unbelievable. Her second floor is like.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
All these strophies. I mean's mind bogged, and she's got
them all under blankets and this, that and the other.
Well I'm up there about fifteen minutes and I hear this.
I hear this voice coming from downstairs. What are you
doing up there? You're not stealing anything, are you?
Speaker 7 (16:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, yeah, I said. She goes, you're not.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Stealing anything, are you? I go no, No, I'm not
stealing anything.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
He goes, well, okay, I said, I'll be right down.
So about five minutes later I come down. Sheause, you
didn't steal anything, did you? I go, no, I didn't
steal anything.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
But I was tempted obviously, and she said, well, if
you were going to steal something, what would you have stolen?
And I said, well, I said, it's funny you should
say that, because the thing I really wanted up there
was the blanket that weaver Ridge got when when he
won the Massachusetts Handicaps. A nice blanket. Massachusetts Handicap, beaver
(17:38):
Ridge and Stepping Downs was my home track, and I fond.
I was fond for that, but I said there was
one big problem. She goes, what I go, I couldn't
stuff it in my pocket. I was a little baseball
lesson but Ron Turkout was so hospitable. He was so
nice to his fans, and especially later in life, when
(17:59):
he decided he was going to talk about secretariat and
Leonard Lusky and his family and everybody got together and
started secretariat dot com and and really brought secretariats memory
to the really to the forefront once again. And he
went to all kinds of events and signed all kinds
of photographs, and it was nice to his fans. And
(18:22):
he came here to the Secretariat Festival here in Paris,
and he just got around, and he came to Saratoga
every year. He didn't come this year obviously for obvious
reasons now, but he usually came to Saratoga for the
Hall of Fame inductions.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, he was. I didn't I didn't know that about
how they formed those things for Secretariat. I must belong
to a couple of them, because I'm forever in a
day getting stuff on my phone. Yeah that from Secretariat
something or another. And I don't read that part, but
(18:57):
I read the story and now write about a lot
of good stuff. Doesn't have to be about Secretariat. It's
just kind of an expanded into a racing.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Yeah it Well, Secretary still has more fans than any
of their horse ever. But now the Secretary still has
more fans than any other horse. I mean, if you
if we if we have something that's related to Secretariat. Uh. Oh,
I have to say this. I'll go to my grave
with this. I'm not going to sell it. But she
(19:29):
gave me the ball, penny penny, through the through the
first pitch out and then she gave me the ball
and she signed it a little horse on it. Oh cute.
So I told Diane the house catches on fire, don't worry,
I'll be back. I interviewed her over there when she
was living there. I interviewed her, Yeah, and that was
(19:50):
the year that they put the Secretariat statue up out
of the horse. Yeah. Sure, And so I thought I'll
go and I didn't talk to her much about Secretary
that I was talking about Secretary, right, So we got
to talking about some of the old horses, you know,
first landing and you know, horses like that that they had,
(20:14):
and she loved that. I'm sure she did. And at
the end of the interview and I had it, but
we've lost it and down at the radio station. Oh yeah,
at the interview we signed an off and she says,
that was fun, that was that is great. Yeah, somebody's
got to find that. Yeah. So anyway, yeah, I didn't
(20:39):
know we get Russy in the crack research team here
at Horse Healthy look into that matter, find it valuable.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Yeah, that was that was very good. Well is it
eight sixteen? Yeah? You want me to do go ahead
and do a clayver.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Oh well, about two weeks ago, on Saturday, August nine,
to be exact, we were talking about Fort Washington by
Warfront winning the grade one one million dollars Arlington million
States that colone you down. This week's featured Warfront States
winner is to our hero, a two year old coach
that won one hundred and eight thousand dollars soaring free
(21:21):
states that would bind last Saturday to become, by our account,
the one hundred and nineteenth states winner by Warfront two.
Our hero has started twice as won of both one
a maiden specially would bind by widening twelve links and
then sowing free by length and a half and one
fifteen and four for six and a half furlongs. Right,
(21:42):
A good time for a two year old. He's off
to a great start. I don't think it'll take him
long to pay his owners back, but two hundred and
forty thousand dollars he's sold far as a yearling at
Keenan they will take him awhile to catch up with
Fort Washington. However, for Washington there's won five states and
forty five in traction, earned a million three hundred and
fifty two thousand. World famous wharf once stands to Clayburn
(22:05):
Farm Woman Track and then performing his of Fort Washington
and two out Hero serve as a reminder that Claven
is also the home of Annapolis, a Grade one winner
and millionaire by Warfront. Annapolis was fast rent a mile
at team and then a record won thirty three and
four to win Grade one States, ran one mile and
one thirty two and four at Belmont Park. Won Grade
(22:28):
two stakes at Belmont. Is a two year old and
earned over a million eight hundred and sixty nine thousand.
He's by a great sire and his dam was a
runner two. She won Grade two stakes, runs checond in
the Grade one Kentucky Oaks and earned over six hundred
and five thousand. It's worth a trip to Clavern to
take a look at this horse. I mean its first
foes which drived this year also terrific, just like this
(22:50):
shire called Jacob West at eight five nine nine eighty
seven two three three old. Take her to get the
website Clavernfarm dot com. Well, you know, my good friends
over in the Creek had a terrific sails up at Saratog.
Well the New York Brids too good. They really had
a super sale up and they they they I'm not
(23:19):
surprised because their horses always look great that they got
great horsemen over the Indian Creek, and their horses are
turned out there when they walk in the sails ring,
you can almost spot one. It's the good God who
took care of this horse because he looks great, and
it's it's an Indian Creek and they have, uh, Indian Creek,
(23:41):
many major stakes when they both here and abroad first
saw the light of day over Indian Creek, and they
raised and boarded and sold many of the world's finest
their bridge and the Clayward Agencies ensured most of them.
And it's uh, they're a couple. Indian Creek and and
the Clayward Agency what found him back in nineteen thirty one,
(24:03):
a vintage year. By the way, Oh Lord, you.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Know that year he was born. God didn't take your hat.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
I know, I'm sorry if you take a pardon there,
God bless America. Here we go, Holy cow. I almost forgot. Boy.
If you want to know how old I am, if
you can count that high here, you know, well that
(24:31):
was the year I was born, twenty grand one of
Derby if you want to look it up. That year.
Great racing here, by the way, because they they were
very successful over the clay Ward Ages, because you know
they they gave great service and knowledge of the horse
busness we're talking about. One day I was talking about
(24:52):
sitting down with Shack Parishes over there, and we got
to talking about four Gold. You and I were talking
about him, and I made the comment Borgo was a
quippled and Shack said he sure was. They had I
guess they tried to say, I'm sure, you know, I
(25:13):
don't know if they were could In true he had
one good leg. He was an amazing horse when he
was at the horse park. The first time I ever
came to Kentucky was to see him and Bold Forbes
at the horse park. Isn't that right? Yeah? I forget
what hear. It was eighteen something. It was a while
(25:33):
he also was there. The fact they were celebrating his
ninetieth birthday.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Will you celebrate this?
Speaker 3 (25:41):
We celebrate it. It's a great friend of man Bred
both Forbes and Lee eat nice. Lee passed away several
years eating sales right, yeah it was yeah, yeah, well
you know Travis days today and they posted a wonderful
a video up on the old Friends at Cabin Cree website.
(26:02):
If you want to look at that with two Travers winners,
Thunder Rumble and Will's Way running against each other.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
In the snow.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
It's really it's going to be on the broadcast of
the race. I don't know it's on the website. It
offensive Cabin Creek. If those people had any imagination they were.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Gonna interrupt you guys a second time and finish this commercial.
Oh sorry, I never know. I never I know.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
He's so clever.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
He is clever. He gulls are right in. You wouldn't
even know it was an app, you.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Know, like like what was his name, Captain Kanga Root.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I think we're very good at that. I think we're
still interrupting you his ad.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Oh well go ahead.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Sorry, I'm sorry about that. Shack.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Let's start over, Shacked.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Get you double anyway, if you want to ensure your
horses at the fall of the ham to say, it
was just called the cleave Lord agency. It's over in Paris.
Can take it right there on Main Street eleven on
two Main Street in Paris. So two organizations, they're one
and the same area. That's Indian Creek Farm and the
(27:10):
clave ward they didn't see. Now you all can start
with wandering on again.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
Well, so it's Travers Day. I'm gonna say this. Old
Friends has had five Travers winners at the bar, and
we still have three. So we had thunder Rumble passed away.
Will's Way passed away, and the thunder Rumble had always
been up in New York, but Will's Way was originally
here in Kentucky, and we sent him up to New
(27:35):
York because he's said, not only a national here, he's
a local hero. And and he had a great time
up there at Old Friends of Cabin Creek.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Good. When you watch that video and you'll see him
racing Will's Way, you'll see how.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Much fun they had. That's fun. Yeah, he just showed
me that on his phone. But they're in adjoining paddocks
and there's down the road.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
And they're really racing against each other sponge. And then
at uh at our farm, we have.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Three Travers winners. We have Alpha, who was involved in
the only dead heat recorded dead heat and travers history.
It's named Golden Ticket. And if you come to the farm,
we actually have that on our big screen. You can
see and see the race. And we have the Day.
(28:26):
Oh yeah, the Day won the Travers and most most
people remember Birdstone's Belmont, but his his Travers was pretty
good too. He won, and Birdstone won the Travers. Good.
We got them all there if you want to come
see them. See if the people actually stuffed themselves into.
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Saratoga today where you can't move and you got to
d and fifty dollars for a beer and all that stuff,
and code of my house I sell him for four
fifty out of the garage. But anyway, they can come
to our farm. And the people up in Saratoga, no
matter what, they're only going to see one travers winner.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Today, that's right.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
But if they come to our farm, they'll be able
to see three at one time, being Carrous and missus
pashion books.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
All right, Well, I was gonna ask you, since we
don't have major to go see anymore, maybe Bessie and
I could come back and see a little silverto.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Yeah, little silver charm. Yeah, yeah, so today, yeah, romping. Yeah,
well not exactly romping, but at his age, you know,
I think he's about thirty eight. Oh, who's that, this
little silver Charm?
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Oh about thirty eight, I said, I can't. You know
that's he doesn't have anybody to see anymore.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
I don't know. Was the oldest serve that was a
live run here at this time? It was forty years
old and he just passed away about six six months
ago something like that. Yeah, I'm trying to remember his name.
Yeah he was. He wasn't in Kentucky, no, no, but
(30:05):
they they featured him in the Daily News, tell you
silver Charm, the oldest living Derby Winter, oldest living Preakness
winner thirty one thirty one, And about a few months
ago he wasn't looking so hot, you know, John and
doctor Waldridge and Antonio and Ruden Riddle all got together
(30:26):
and they developed a plan and yeah, and now he's
back to his old self again. He's regained probably sixty
seventy pounds. He's wow, he's jogging around again. And I
think the weather, of course you pointed out if the
weather's helping enormously. But he's on some program now. I'm
sure he's on drugs that he couldn't use when he
(30:48):
was racing. But anyway, maybe some of them, yeah, maybe funny,
But anyways, his eyes are bright and he's waiting for
the people that come visit him, and devouring is Missus
Pasture's crumbs, you know.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
So that's yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
I got a handful of Missus Pastures left.
Speaker 6 (31:10):
I'll bring him out in the bag. Not much, but
well you know, Missus Pasher sends us all our cookies
for free. Now, wow, huge bags of them and two
hundred and fifty pounds of crumbs. Well, I don't have
to shadow the good cookies anymore.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
And they'll do anything. Every horse on the farm likes them. Yeah,
everyone likes him. Yeah, and the ones that have that
are really really old, like my voice Summery Attraction. He's
really old and steeps are kind of gone, so he
has to have the crumbs too. He's thirty.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
Yeah, I claimed in My Mother's Day nineteen ninety nine
for thirty five hundred dollars at finger legs, and he's.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Still with me.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
She lives amazing, and that yeah it is now we
always go and that uh major was turned out with
a horse name I forget, but it was a long.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
I forgo. That's a great name for a horse. I forget.
Oh yeah, I forgot. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
But anyway, I thought, well, we got a couple left.
We'll go out and give him some and then you know,
maybe right over and.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
See yeah please, yeah, gates open, just come right up
top of the hill park where it's comfortable. And it's
good up there too, because we have the event center
of the Abercrombie Center opening there now in the restroom
scut of air conditioning and you can see the races
on the TV.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Now. Yeah wow, and.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
It's really really, it's really good in.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
The car because well, we were waiting for cooler weather
and then when we take the chair and get her out,
but the cooler weather came. But it's over, you know,
I mean major.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
It's beautifulest morning. I better take care of cool more here.
All right, I'm gonna go.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Oh no, I gotta go.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
It's eleven o'clock post time. My whole day is compressed now,
and I okay, you haven't given okay, Well, well, first
of all, the you know, the travers itself, doesn't I
don't know what's going to happen. I mean, obviously, sovereignties
are going to be a huge favor. It will probably
be one to five certainly. Yeah, Magnitude will probably get
(33:24):
the lead. And you know, he's a much better horse
than anything he's meeting in here. However, you know, it'll be,
it'll be. It'll be fun to watch and we can
applaud a nice, nice horse. And and I'm starting to
get excited for the Breeders Cup coming up too, because
that's going to be the Breeders Cup this year should
be really good at all these they all stabilities if
(33:46):
they all stay healthy. Now what channel is an orange
that good Pilly of Oh man, I'm I'm having a
senior moment. She goes today toto anna, yeah, yeah, well
my well, my long win.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
I hate it when I really really really wanted to win,
makes me a nervous wreck.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
I had a great article in the last Blood Ors
about him about her. She's amazing and he said and
he says that he said he can't mac Pete said
that she's been training world beater. Okay, you know he's
(34:38):
toying with the idea. If things keep going, I got
hell Runner against the boys in the in the Breeders
Cup Classic. Whoa yeah, yeah, that's it's gonna be really
interesting to see how things go leading up to the
last time. Well, if the boys was in the trapers
and she should have wanted to half a later she
(35:00):
had one Yeah, one more jump. I named a horse
that one time.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, you did one more jump, one more that's a
good name for it's a good name. And then he
had Wildcat Country. Got that off a license plate.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Yeah, boy, it was a good one. Did I tell
you that Brett Jones named a horse after one of
my stories? What I didn't tell you this? Well, I
know our audience out there and Radio Land is very
excited about this. Yes, So he called me a couple
of months ago and he said, Mike, I got to
tell you I named it. I named a Philly after
(35:39):
one of your stories.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
So I said, wow, that's interesting.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Well here's the story.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
So we were first going to come to Kentucky. I
went to Diane and I said, I want to move
to Kentucky. Her first reaction from our home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Arlington, Massachusetts,
that time I got she goes, wait a minut, she goes,
I've never even been And I said, well, you know
you like it. I think she'd actually been. Actually she'd
(36:08):
done a travel story coming down here and we travel section.
Yeah she yeah, she'd been here. But anyway, she's she goes, what.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Are we going to do?
Speaker 6 (36:20):
And I said, well, you know, the Thirdbred Retirement Foundation
has offered me this job and it'll be around the horses.
And if we don't like it, you know, our son
lives in Australia and our parents are dead, so you know,
we'll just come back and do whatever you want next time.
She says, let me think about it.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I said, okay.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
So about twenty minutes later she comes back. She goes,
you know, I decided I'll go with you. I said,
you did great. We'll have a great time.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
And she goes, but only under one condition.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
And I said, okay, what's that? And she says.
Speaker 6 (36:56):
That when I leave you, you won't come looking for me.
So that was that was the deal. So Brett, he
knew that story, and so he calls me. So the
name of the horse is don't come looking at Wonderful
and I and I and she's she's trained by Lindsay Schultz.
(37:17):
She's at Mammouth Park and there, you know, she had
one race. She's meant to go along and probably.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
On the grass. But she had a sprint race in
her first start and finished the solid second, came into
the few Nixon whatever, and how they're waiting for her
next start to come.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
So how old is she right now?
Speaker 3 (37:36):
I think she's two three?
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Oh, well, have to be young. She's a Cairo prince
and she's beautiful, that Lindsay Schultz. I ran into her
at Saratoga and she sent me pictures good. So I
asked her if she's going to run at Kayland.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
She says, well, I don't know. I don't want to
bring that horse all the way down to Kentucky in
front of all those people. I don't want to, you know,
Brett Jones horse, I don't want to lose. She goes,
he's only going to bring her down here a treked works.
But anyway, that's our that's our little uh naming of
the horse story. Yes, don't come looking.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Well, you didn't give us a winner?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Loser?
Speaker 6 (38:18):
Oh yeah, I got a loser here for sure. I
know I got a loser.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Where's the forego? I got to find the fore go?
He looked at me when he said that.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Oh no, I think there's so many competitive, competitive races today.
Look at the field.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Yeah, it's unbelievable. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got the personal
ensign in grade one. I mean, Bob Baffett has a
horse and the Jerkins that I really like. And he's
got I think he's got three in here. He's got
Midland Money, Barnes and Maddicott Rope Barnes.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Where has Barns Been'll be on your TV.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
This afternoon at post time for the Allen Hurrikins is
four twenty two. We left the latch teks.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
Yeah, but he's got this, this undefeated horse named Midland
Money who's eight to one on the morning line. I
can't believe this horse is going to be that price.
But his last court cut at Saratoga on August the seventeenth,
less than a week ago, just about a week ago.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Listen, a week ago, it.
Speaker 6 (39:29):
Was forty six and one breezing, first of one hundred
and six. I mean, that's that's serious traveling. And Joel
Rosario gets on. He's one of both his first two starts,
and he looks like it could be really, really tough.
We'll see, but he's eight to one on the morning
line of all of Bob's horses, and I think Barnes
(39:50):
has a shot. I think this is a wide open race,
so you're gonna get a price no matter what. It's
the Alan Jerkins Yeah seven prolongs.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
He got to know that and fairly will Yeah yeah,
still got the duel. Yeah, Alan.
Speaker 6 (40:09):
I never met him before, but I was in the
backside of Saratoga about ten years ago with my friend
Nick Newman, and I saw him sitting over there and
on a golf cart looking over at the horses when
they're working out. So I said, I got to go
over there and bother them. So I went over there
and I said, mister Jerkins, I'd like to introduce myself.
My name is Michael, I said, I got.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
I have a.
Speaker 6 (40:32):
Retirement home for old horses in Kentucky's as you do. Yeah,
So I said, this is our magazine. I gave him
one of the old friend's magazine. Oh got some nice
horses there, I said, yes, sir, certainly do. He goes, gee,
I got a couple of mirrors and I can't run
with the damn You got a home for them? I go, well,
I said, we're really filled up right now, but you know,
(40:54):
we'd be honored to have you know, have your horses
that are farm believe me.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
So he goes he.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
Said, what are you doing now? He says, I said,
We're just going to go over to the front side.
Now watch the races. He goes, well, come on, hop on,
and he gets and Alan Jerkins let us, put us
on his golf cart and drove us right to the
front gate. It's Saratoga and I thought.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
Wow, this is like Babe Ruth driving you the Yankee Stadium.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Yes, that's fun.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
But I'm glad they named this race after him. And
he's a he was a tremendous, tremendous human being. I
met Alan when I was working out at Keenland for
the daily racing for him, and he came walking in
my office and he introduced himself. I knew her. I
really knew who he was right away, you know, And
(41:41):
I said, I have my my name. He said, I know,
he said, I asked, but I want to ask you something.
I said, Okay, do you have a little man named
Duck at the door? And I says, I sure do.
I said, I bought her. I've got her right on
the PHARMACIP, can I go see her? And it turns
out that he had trained her and she's won a
little steak farm down at that tropical the old Tropical Park,
(42:07):
Oh my god. And anyway, and she wants and races
up in Canada farm it's so fort. And we went
after the farm and we were one hundred dollars away
and she was turned out with five of the mayors
out there, you know, and he said, actually is climbed
defense and went out and gave her some peppermints. Yeah.
(42:29):
He was quite a guy, you know. I didn't really
know him that well, but.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
He was very nice to me over the years and
very nice about this old horse.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
Yeah. All right, Now I'm gonna rollment and hope that
Midland money finishes in the money for people, and if
that doesn't work. In the eleventh race in the Ballerina,
Steve Asterson as the source with Junior Albarado named Zadios
six to one and Junior Albarado, who who wrote her
(42:59):
last time, did a really really good job.
Speaker 5 (43:01):
And it's just a.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Few traffic problems in the last race in the Caress
and moving up in the Ballerina, but I think has
a really good shot to finish in the money and
make the exacts a little bit better. I really think
Bob Baffert's horse in that race, Hope Road, who's three
to one in the morning line, is going to be
(43:23):
the favorite, but a very short price. I wouldn't think. Well,
that's a big day, can't wait, very exciting.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Well, tell the crowded. The red Man always said.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
Hey, I will I love that crowd. We have a
great time. It really is fun. It sounds like, I
don't know, it sounds like did they listen to you
on the show. Yes, yes, they're old enough to remember
who you are.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
What they're old?
Speaker 1 (44:01):
That old?
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Yeah, they're pretty old for them, they're pretty old, the
old timers. It's like then, you know, when somebody doesn't
show up for a couple of weeks, you really start
to worry. Yeah, oh yeah, so but anywhere we're over there.
Speaker 6 (44:15):
Until the last gun is fired. You yeah, a really
good time. Somebody hits you know. The good thing is
somebody hits a decent ticket. They come over, say you
want to be here?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
You know, it's like.
Speaker 6 (44:25):
You can't get that on the phone. Those bets on
the phone, that's a silly idea.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
It's great to see you. It's a beautiful day. The
farm looks beautiful. You guys.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Just looks great. Everything looks great. You got to see
Betsy go okay, and the missus pastures. You come to
the house, the crumbs and the Missus Patcher's cookies are.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
In the garage. If you run out or if you
need it.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
Hey, I've just got some left in a bag, so
I'll bring them out. And sometimes I stop at Kroger's.
They will sell carrots that have been uh you know,
shaved on the call it stuff can little silver armatos.
Speaker 6 (45:09):
Yeah, he can meet regular carrots to Oh we can't.
Oh yeah, he's got teeth. It's big silver Tronda cat
got four teeth.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
We'll go out.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
There to that Krogers and you walk and say, Michael's
been here. Look at the carrots and cuts and stuff.
Speaker 5 (45:26):
Is fun.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
I know my place.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Thanks for coming, Michael.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Great to see you.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Great to see you. John will be here next week.
It'll be good and he'll give you some really solid
information instead of me wandering around. All right.
Speaker 7 (45:43):
Hello.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Our last Saturday of me bound one hundred and eighth
down out like Hasha Glimpse Steaks was won by, of course,
good Corsia VELUSI, a two yr food by practical joke.
Corsilla Vlucia has started twice in one boat. She is
one of twenty twenty five stage horses, twelve stags horses
(46:06):
for of the Greatest States Unders, thirty state sources all
that this year. That's a lot of bright eye by
practical joke, and he has climbed the number seven on
the North American stylis. Paco Zok is in the Midsigs
leading Sun and Study, and he stands at Ashford Study.
Now is the time to make plans for next year.
And time let's take a look at a couple of
the young stallions over at Ashford Study. For instance, Serves Cornish,
(46:30):
who is a champion two year over here who won
a million two hundred and sixty three thousand. He's one
of the best sons of the top star quality road.
He's the quality of roads one hundred and fifty thousand.
His first foes a year orange watching them at the
sales and there's domestic problem. He's a great one winner
by the aforementioned practical joke, which is enough to recommend
(46:50):
him right there. His first folds will arrive this year.
Epicenter was a champion three old vis year. He earn
over a million two hundred and forty thouven. He's by
this time a young son of the great Giants Causeway.
Of course, you know John's Causeway students in ore career days,
Ford stud Epicenters, First fold of Earings, Golden Palace, First
Folds of Earlings. He's a Grade one winner over a million,
(47:12):
eight hundred and twenty five thousands by the late great
Ashford stud Uncle Moe get oldest of arlings this year.
They have a world renowned reputation at Ashford Studd for
developing leading sires. When three started as row as five
thousand lightfold. So give him a call eight five nine
eight seven three seventy eighty eight and take her to
(47:34):
get a website which is schoolmore dot com.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Okay, let me say a few words here about one
of Paris's fine organization, said schooling let their intact quality
service and other good since nineteen eighty two, the nation's
largest custom hank shop twenty thousand halters plus a year
(47:58):
ship worldwide Clellan dot com, Paris, Kentucky eight five nine
nine eight seven two one five nine eight seven oh
two one five. And you know I talk a lot
about their halkers. Of course, they're terrific. Anything to do
(48:19):
with leather and the horse business. They got you covered.
I mean, the stuff is just tremendous. So I thought
i'd look at the back of their old catalog. They
don't put out a paper capalg anymore because things change
so quickly. But it's a full service tack and leather
(48:40):
goods shop, and if it's an amazing thing, they can
fix everything. And everything they make is done in Paris.
You can go watch them as far as they goes.
The store is divided into front and back with a
glass wall between, and the glass wall is there because
(49:03):
that making leather goods is kind of noise. They got
those big fancy sewing machines and stuff. But I was
looking at the back of this. They make legal pad
holders with inside pockets brown, bourbon, brown and black. If
you put a name plate on their they got a
(49:27):
place for your business cards, and they have three sizes.
I mean that's pretty clever, and it's good looking. It
holds standard paper, you know, it's just really really nice.
And then they have check book covers of course, and
every color on earth. They have a dark red you know,
(49:50):
it says red green blue or pinka feet. The colors
are bright, they're beautiful, they're pretty color green and stuff
like that. And then there's some of the leathers if
you want, it's real smooth. Some of it's kind of granny.
So anyway, clipboards, appointment books, sleigh bells. You don't get
(50:13):
your sleigh bells out now or sing get ready for
you know what?
Speaker 3 (50:18):
So quilling t uy l.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
L I n dot com nine eight seven O two
one five.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and urso ellis.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Okay. We've got all kinds of steak fishes going today
the course. The biggest one is a traverse goes off
at six fourteen. That's not too bad. Now a little
little bit before bedtime, Yeah, little jacket, I usually sit
down in there, go to sleep and miss half over going.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
I know it's.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
Okay, Well this got they got a five horse field's
all it's going. Magnitude is on the rail. Uh. Bracketbuster
is number two by Vocoma over Spencer of Strategic Focus
is number three, but gun Runner sevenry who is the
best three all in the country is by in the
(51:20):
Mischief and the Hugul. He will be way the favorite.
You know, and and then McAfee is on the outside
five horse fields, I guess uh teventry probably probably I
can scare most of them off, you know, yeah in
the travers because so those off of six fourteen, which
is is a decent decent time, you know. But anyway, well,
(51:43):
from the nations leading sire in the midsief, leading second
crops sire the Opon leading uh first cop Shire excuse
me Opon leading second crops Let me start this again.
The nation's leading sire in the mischief leading for cops.
Are you open them? Leading second crop sire for Como
(52:03):
and leading third cropsire Omaha Beach stand to spencerf Farm,
the breeders farm. Let's take a look at several of
the youngest dadius at spensif Tsue leading sires. The Arabian
line is about Grade one winner and triple crown winner
in successful sire. Justify popped it from the good God.
He covered a full book of one hundred and seventy
eight mayors in his first crop. His first full arrived

stage of three and earned over three million dollars. He's
by the popular Violence. The Violence stands for thirty thousand
dollars out of the excellent Race Queen Carolina States win
of over four hundred thousand, seized by Blame. Forty's first
fools were rather sere and their outstanding More soon on
(53:32):

time to call Dais and Brian and Mark or Daniel.
That's Spencer they always inquired by breeding incentives. The numbers

website is Spenser farm dot com.
Speaker 2 (53:50):
Okay, one took my buddy Hickel Parker and of course
his wife Reagan. They're in the realtor business. They're both
good at it too. When you get a real good wheelchair,
you also have they have to be really really up
(54:13):
on zoning and land regulations, state and local and national.
Speaker 3 (54:22):
And you kind of.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Got, you know, around here, you've got a bunch of
small towns, and then you got Lexington it's obviously a
large town, and then you got Frankfort right down the road.
So one thing they have to do is they have
to absolutely keep up with those layers of regulations and
(54:45):
stuff that are going on. They have to know some
city council person will pop in somewhere and uh, you know,
proposed to do something, and they have to be ahead
of that kind of stuff. You wouldn't want to go
in and try to buy something and find out, well,
they said you can't keep horses here, Well, yes you can.
(55:08):
They've been doing it for a year. Yeah, but blah
blah blah. They have to go in and straighten that
stuff out because there's always somebody missing. Believe me, there's
always somebody nothing wants something. So And on the other side,
Hill's a horseman, He's a license sorts trainer in eleven states.
(55:32):
He's trained, he's shown, he's done it all, from fox
hunters to steeple chasers to flat racing. When Ursul was
one of his retirement jobs, he was the clcker at
the training center and Hill had come out and tied
(55:55):
two horses to his van and throw some pack on him.
And how he'd go work his own Yeah, crying. I
mean he'd be flyinging down to that finish line and
you'd see his right hand move over to his left
wrist and running.
Speaker 3 (56:15):
Get to that pole. Click.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
I mean, it was just it was super. He was
just amazing. So the reason I'm telling you all this
stuff is he's coming and going. He knows what questions
to ask. What are you going to do with the property?
Are you gonna stable breed, train right? What do you
want to do? All that kind of stuff is so important.
(56:38):
You know, you got to know where you're gonna put
your hay.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
Well, how do you get in touch with Hill Parkham?
I think the best thing to do to get in
touch with Hill and his lovely bride Riggan. He is
go to his website which is lex horse Farms dot com.

he does and how he goes about his chapel day
at the Red Miles. So I may slide up there
for a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Yeah, that'd be kind of fun. Yeah, go interrupt him

lost there? You go tell tell him we said to
go out there and check out and see if you
need some money. Yeah, there you go. I'll pick up

under these states. Uh, there's going to be run, That's
what I said. Of course we're going to talk about
the travers. We've talked about the personal answer, and those
are the two biggies. Alan Jerkins is a nice race.
(01:05:10):
It's a great one. Also, it's got a field of eight.
It's a saratogam. It goes off at four twenty two.
Pats Adams has got the rail. It's uh, that's an

the mission. Chance mcpatrick is number four by McKenzie. Number
(01:05:35):
five is verified by Authentic, who had another stakes winner yesterday.
By the way, we'll get to that authent case. He's
coming alive over at Spencer Farm. Well, of course he
was a chaperon. He had won the Breeders' Cup Classic,
he won the Kentucky Derby and now that they're running, yeah,
so that's good. Smoking Wicked is number six. That's bob
(01:05:59):

I've never heard of. That's alright, he's never heard of me.
Captain cook By practical joke over at Ashford stood and

He's a quality quality road. And let's see they're running
Navel the Ballerina, which is a great one and mystically one.
(01:06:42):
That by Motown. I think that horse might have gone

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
What's that one?
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
Who bred that thing? Anyway? William Butler and Hope Road
is number nine. That's the quality road of very good time.
So those are then they're running.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
The well of good names like that clever.
Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Yeah, you know that's they're running the four goal. What
a great race horse he was. He had at least
two good of sound legs. Yeah, it has been a
lot better because he didn't have but one. Yeah, but
he was a great raceourse. This is a five hundred
(01:08:14):
town dollar four year old up. How many were great
ones that got after the day boat Coop? Number one
is most Wanted. Number five is Bishop's Babe by the
Just Late Great Uncle Moe. Number three is Full Moon

(01:08:58):

really nice horse of old.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
These names keep popping in my head from forty years ago.
That's because there's not much ills up there. Oh my

you down if you're drinking enough of it. And doctor Sullivan,
(01:09:29):
who's number eleven. It's it's great races out there today.
Let me see, I guess i'd better catch up here
on a few things. And two weeks ago. That was
on Saturday, August nine, to be exactly, we're talking about
Fort Washington, who was about Warfront winning the Grade one
(01:09:51):
one million dollar Arlington Million States at Colonial Downs. This
week featured Warfronts States winner is to out here too,

of both one a maiden specially Woodbine by twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):

Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
That'll opened some eyes, wouldn't Yeah, And then he came
right back and won the Soaring Free Stakes, going six
and a half paarlarms and one fifteen and four, which
is pretty done good for two. He's off to a
great start. Man, I don't think it'll take him along
to payback the two hundred and forty thousand dollars he
so far as the early out of Keenan. It will
(01:10:45):
take him a while to catch up with Fort Washington. However,
Fort Washington has won five stakes at four different tracks
and earned over a million three hundred and fifty two thousand.
World famous warfronts stands at Clavern Farm and the performances
at Fort washing Rington and two out Hero remind us
that Clavern's is also the home of Annapolis, a Grade
(01:11:07):

He's by a great shire and his name was also
a runner. She won Grade two steaks, ran second in
the Kentucky Derby and earned over six hundred and five thousand.

horse which arrived this year. They're worth we're going to
add to They're terrific. Calk to Jacob West eighty five

wort Hope Well in insurance agency. When we moved to
Bourbon County, we looked around and tried to figure out
where we should buy our insurance and friends told us
about Hope Well. I mean, there wasn't much didn't have
to have much discussion because it was obvious that's where
(01:12:19):
you go. So Urso went to see Tim McLean and
Hope Well and we've been doing business with them ever
since and they we really are satisfied right there and
they get the job done. So and I'll tell you
what I thought was fascinating. You're an independent insurance agency.
(01:12:41):
Why is that fascinating? Well, because they don't have to
work with the home company. They don't have to charge
what you know, whatever it is that's up on the wall.
They are independent insurance agency. They use a carefully selected
(01:13:03):
group of financially sound, reputable companies, so they can look
around and pick what they think.
Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
Is best for you.
Speaker 7 (01:13:13):

no cost, no obligation review in comparison of your present insurance.

Really I saw the picture of it, what's gonna look like?
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
I really like it? Oh okay, hey, Motown had no
mistakes one us.
Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
I tell you, I watched that last night. You know,
I remember to watch that, and I watched it last night,
and I didn't bet enough on the horse. I bet
a little bit on it, but not enough.
Speaker 3 (01:20:34):
Yeah, he's a hell of a stead horse. You gotta
you gotta hear him by a nice, nice one, nice bunch.
Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
And they broke broke your horse. Yet Now we're gonna
wait until a fall, so he said, just running around with.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
His buddies up there. So I think once gets.
Speaker 5 (01:20:54):
To be a little cooler a little later in the
year ago.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Uh yeah, well that was.
Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
Been awful.
Speaker 7 (01:21:02):
Hot.
Speaker 3 (01:21:03):
Yeah, what's going on down in Missisippi.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
See, we had a run of pneumonia's. We also had
another sleeping sickness. It didn't come through the school, it
came through the diagnostic lab this week. That's I think
the horse.
Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
May have been from.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
The Alabama line is not very far from here, maybe
thirty miles, so this week I think, Okay, the horse
I think lived in Alabama, but it ended up coming
to our diagnostic I have another eastern eclinceps well milet
so yeah, don't that's two. That we've had to don't
forget to vaccinate your horses that they do for sleeping sickness.
(01:21:45):
But we've had a run of.
Speaker 11 (01:21:50):
Pneumonia's, which to me a little bit unusual, and it
can have been all ages. But one of the things
about pneumonian horses and and you know, people you'll ask
the question, and it's.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
An important one. But one nice thing about I guess
one of that, well guess the one not one of
a few good things about pneumonia and horses is if
it's a bacteria, which you know, they can get vital
pneumonias and things like.
Speaker 5 (01:22:20):
Glue or herbes or you know, they're they're.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
The two biggest one, but they get a bacterial pneumonia.
Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
It's once they.
Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
Get a bacteria in there, the bacteria is not infectious.
We're lucky in horses.
Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
You don't.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
Cattle are different, but and dogs, but and horses were
lucky that there's a bacteria or our bacteria that are
causing pneumonia. Those are not going to be infetious to
other horses. You know, viruses of course are.
Speaker 3 (01:22:49):
But if it's a bacteria, they're not going to transmit it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
Because the bacteria that we see are there, you know,
they're they're just Usually what happens is the the virus
comes through, and like in the case of blue virus,
clue virus will go through and effect and kill the
sills that line the lining of the of the airways,
you know, the wind pipes, and so when that happens,
(01:23:15):
the barrier's broken and then bacteria just come in there. Secondarily,
you know, there the bacteria are just kind of hanging
around and.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
They won't cause disease until there's.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
A break, and that's what happens. And most of the
time it's just the routine stuff that you can see,
say caused skin infections, all those that are Streptococcus bacteria,
but we can see a little bit of everything.
Speaker 5 (01:23:40):
We had one.
Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
This year that was looking back on it and talking
to people at Auburny and then they told.
Speaker 3 (01:23:49):
Me about it.
Speaker 5 (01:23:50):
We had one that had a really.
Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
Severe bacterial infection that they have been four or five cases.
Speaker 5 (01:23:55):
Reported and every one of those had died.
Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
This poor horse ended up dying and had h strangles
at the same time, and at the time I was
really worried that maybe it's an adult horse that maybe
the strangle somehow is you know along with that other
bacteria bacterium will cause them more trouble. But it was
(01:24:17):
a strain that I think, looking back at it was
a strain that really caused a lot of serious disease
even in people, could kill people.
Speaker 5 (01:24:24):
So that was a weird one that we had this year.
Speaker 1 (01:24:28):
So you know, got a big thing is you know
when their horses get get those get pneumonious, it's probably
starting as viral. And you know, sometimes you have not
much you can do for those viral infections, but try
to keep them. You give them banamine or be to
keep their fevers down and let them stay on feed.
(01:24:49):
And then you know, if they clear those then shouldn't
get any thoughts behind that. But they do, then that's
a sign that they've got a bacterial infection. Usually as
the I was kind of clear stuff and it was
a bacteria'll kind of get posts you know a little
bit of yellow color to it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Okay, that and pneumonia was bad news, especially the horses
and training.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
But we had one.
Speaker 5 (01:25:20):
Oh well, we had one, Yeah, we had one this
year or two. We had to do the economy where
we had the horse had fluid in the chest, you
had infection and the chest and I put the tube
in there, and I think we dreamed about three three
gallons of fluid off the horse chest. And she did
(01:25:41):
really well, and she kept fluid up by her like
right beside her heart on the right side.
Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
And.
Speaker 5 (01:25:52):
They just couldn't get rid of it. And so one
of the things you can do is do a throw economy,
which is doing surgery to make the whole them the
chest and drain the stuff out, because they'll kind of
make itself in access in there and so walls itself.
I'll see, you won't collapse alone. And so we ended
up having to doctor O'shette who came up that time
(01:26:16):
for me and had my surgery. She made a hole
on the horse's chest, you know, about the size of
your hand, you know, the length of your hands, and
we drained a bunch of this terrible fluid out of
that mare. And she's doing really well. Now the hole
is starting to heal up. And you know, the only
way for her that we could just get her right
(01:26:36):
was to do that door tied of me. And you know,
in the old days we used to take ribs out
of them to drain them, which you know, we can
still do that but we got to it there. We
just do these you know, going between the ribs and
just kind of cut a sweat in there and you
can flush all that stuff out. If somebody's got a
little hand, they go up in there and just kind
of pull pieces of dead lung out and just get
(01:26:58):
all the junk out and let them heel. So you know,
we've got a lot that we can do for them,
but you know, they can still be really tough, really expensive,
long long term cases, and we still lose them occasionally.
Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
Yeah, you're gonna be up there pretty quick, aren't you.
Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
Well week, it's the second week in September, so I
think September eleven. I think it's a Friday. It's that
week that we're coming. I've got starting to line it
all up with people. I've got to line up for
the vaccines, and.
Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
Students are all excited and they're starting to get good
stuff together.
Speaker 5 (01:27:40):
So not long.
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
Well, keep us posted.
Speaker 5 (01:27:47):
Oh well, and I'll make sure to go buy.
Speaker 3 (01:27:50):

Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
All right, I say, you know when I think I'll
do Jackie, but I think I'll read something from Joe Palmer,
don't you love? Joe Palmer was one of my favorite,
one of the best that he ever wrote. Is this one?
What the Ganest House Gang? Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
I love that story.
Speaker 3 (01:33:52):
Yeah, I'm going to read that. It's been a long
time since I've read this, so I don't fuel enjoy it,
but I will. Yeah, I am written by Joe Palmer,
who passed away at age forty nine years old. What
a waste back in I think. In nineteen fifty the
(01:34:13):
gas House Game, the records say that Jolly Roger earned
a million excuse me, one of one hundred and forty
three two hundred and forty dollars, which is woefully incomplete.
He was a great steeple chaser in an era of
great steeple chasers, and he won the Grand National at
Belmont under one hundred and sixty five pounds in nineteen
(01:34:35):
twenty seven one and again the next year nder one
hundred and sixty seven. He ran for Missus Payne Whitney,
which was a good thing for a horse, and after
he left the races in nineteen thirty he went back
to the paddocks of Green Tree Farm to grow gracefully.
Were the world's record for earnings by chaser. Missus Whitney
(01:34:56):
did not know it, but Jolly Rogers earnings days weren't
over a good Many tourists from our and Maine and
Kansas get the Green Tree every year, and of course
they want to see famous horses. There were some children
on a farm owned by some of the residents employees,
and they found this situation interesting. I want to see
(01:35:16):
Saint Germains. It asked a questionnaire, and if they founder
visitors new little enough, they'd offer a man of war
for that matter, eclipsed. Whatever the choice, one of the
ansters would run out and catch old Jolly Roger. It
was a very flashy horse with a blazed face and
four white stockings, and he could be held by a
child with a silk string. The act was always good
(01:35:39):
for a quarter of a half dollar, and Johnny Roger
was probably shown as much as any horse in Kentucky,
though never under his own name, presently to share his patents.
Came Cherry Pie, which was one of Missus Whitney's best
loved horses, and then twenty grand with his record for
the Derby, and there was Easter Hero finally to make
(01:36:01):
a four. The farm staff lamentedly addicted. The baseball broadcast
in the season call him the gas house game. You
won't recall Easter Hero because he raced over the fences
in England. He was good enough, but his same rests
largely on the way he played Mary Hall with the
field of the entry Grand National in nineteen twenty eight.
(01:36:25):
This was a notorious renewal in which forty two horses
started and only one hundred to one shot Tipperary ten
finished on damage. Although the American entry Billy Barton was
remattered after pecking the last jump and finished second, no
others finished it all largely the cause of Easter Hero.
He hit the canal turn fence but instead of going
(01:36:48):
over landed the straddle of it. Billy Barton too close
to turn out. Curk fence ditched the eastern Hero in
one prodigious leap then, but several others fell and more refused.
Easter Hero finally fell back off the fence into the
ditch on the near side, where he ran up and
down for a while, and nothing followed behind would attempt
(01:37:10):
to jump it. All. This cut the field to a
half a dozen or so, and entries of murdy offenses
took care of most of the few which had got over.
Twenty grand had won the derby in nineteen thirty one,
and track Worker time sweeping down the stretch with a
prodigious rush. He was later tried and stood, but proved
(01:37:31):
incurably sterile. There was an attempt to train him again
he ran in the first senter need a handicap in
nineteen thirty five, but this didn't work very well either,
so he was brought back to the farm and turned
out with the other pincers. It would be nice to think,
but these four old warriors remembered their days of glory
and the argument during the hot summer afternoon about whether
(01:37:54):
steep potation was honest. Though the changes all. They didn't,
but at least they had the big paddocks and the
tall grass, and their own company and long years of iodalysts.
As the years passed away, their reputations were largely forgotten.
There had always been plenty of horses better than Cherry
Pie worldway bout twenty Grand's Derby record with an even
(01:38:16):
more spectacular worsh many another horse came down at Aintree
to the detriment of the field behind him, but year
after year Roger hailed to them to his record. No
other steepultationer had ever earned so much as he. The
faster even than the race horses run to the white horse.
Cherry Pie was the first to go. He died in
(01:38:38):
nineteen forty seven at the age of twenty seven. In
February nineteen forty Eastern Hero rode to his last friends,
and then a month later, twenty Grand came to the
end of his days at the age of twenty. This
left Jolly Roger and aging twenty six, as the lonely survivor,
and all the years since he had left the fences,
(01:39:00):
his record had remained virtually the only money record except
top Flights, which had stood the big purchase of the
nineteen forty. Then on July two, Elqui's ten year old
veteran of a thousand fences shook off the field of
the Indian River Sequel Chase at Delaware Park and with
(01:39:20):
a purse of eighty eight hundred did a new steeple
chasing mark for earnings. On July the third, the gas
House Gang was disbanded. Jolly Roger died at Great Tree.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
That's a great story.
Speaker 3 (01:39:35):
Makes you want to cry.
Speaker 2 (01:39:36):
Oh, I know, I know, I know you could do
that to you. Yeah, one minute you laugh and the
what it re is and then the next minute brilliant rider. Yes,
absolutely knows which word goes where.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
Yeah. Well, the nation's leading sire in the mission leading
the first crop si yell Pond, leading second crop sire,
but Como. Leading third cops are Omaha Beach, Danny spencerf Farm,
the Breeder's Farm. Let's take a look at several of
the younger stallions at Spencery Farm. The future leading sires.

Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
Okay, Sally Horse fans that been in business forever, my goodness,
I mean forever during that time. It's almost history when
you go back and look at how long they've been
hauling horses and what horses they've hauled and all that
(01:42:24):
kind of stuff. I mean, many of the greatest runners
ever to step on a racetrack have been gotten there
with a Sally Van. I remember a picture of Justify
going to the God knows what he won his share. Ah,
people at sally Van learned a lot along the way.
It's it's obvious that their vehicles and equipment are in
(01:42:49):
tiptop shape. That's that's good, that's what you're supposed to do.
Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
But the other part is.
Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
Something that takes pretty much care. And know that the
single most important safety factor is the ability and experience.
Speaker 3 (01:43:08):
Of the person be behind the wheel.
Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
It has to be a horseman. Their experienced drivers and
experienced horsemen, and that's a winning combination. So think about
that next time you shop your horse across the county
or across the country. When you load your horse into
a sally Van, you can depend on the fact that
(01:43:31):
the person behind the wheel one of the best in
the business and it's good enough to justify it. Good
nuts for you. So folks at sally Van wouldn't have
it any other way. And that's five more than a
half a century sali Van's two five five nine four
(01:43:52):
oh six. They fit its way to the winner's circle.
Speaker 4 (01:44:00):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul Ellis.
Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
Okay, we got a few minutes there. So they're running
the Lake Placid States at why are they're running the
damn thing anyway? Well, anyway, it was in New York. Okay,
Well it's Sarahtogam and the one of the first Lake
(01:44:26):
Classid stakes was possible, possible mate by King's Bishop out
of execution, what the King's vision. Her name is possible mate,
and she's out of a marror named execution.
Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
That's interesting in it. That sounds like somebody's getting head
chopped off.
Speaker 3 (01:44:47):
Yes, but she's she's about a stadion named the Axe.
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Oh my gosh, that's a good name.
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Yeah. The Acts of Second Suitor. I remember the Axe.
He was did over him do at Hadley's Manchester Farm
do be. He was what a nice guy. He was
a funny guy. Yeah, you know, and uh he was
talking about the actiuses. Everybody made money with that store.
(01:45:18):
I bumped to him one time at the third Glub
of America. He had read Mistakes Winner down at Arkansas.
That was my horse I had never heard of. I
asked him, what in the world you're sending America to
that time? That's staying far. He's never done anything. Oh,
he says, I've burned him midnight all figured out that meeting.
(01:45:43):
And I said, well, boy, you sure did. I found
out lady. He bought America carrying that fool. He was
a funny guy. Yeah. Oh but other way he had
Manchester Farm went back behind Keenland back then. But anyway.
Uh execution was also the dam of Chinese Empress by Nagency.
(01:46:05):
The second that one stakes and was the dam of dream.
She herself was the dam of dream and forest execution
also the dam of ship proposal, while Blushing groom at
one stakes and primetime Valentine was another one, and she
was the granddame of primetime. Valentine was by a firm
(01:46:27):
and she want steaks. She was a grand grand dame
of a bunch of hold stakes winners anyway, and the
mayor herself possible mate. Her first foe was Ferry Garden
by Leifhard that won stakes one Grade two stakes. So
(01:46:48):
a couple of them, and then Possible Garden went on
and she produced a King's Mate by Chris s who
won stakes, and a O. L. Hayes by ap Andy
who won stakes. They say, you know, great, great pedigree,
but we're getting back to possible Meat, the man we're
(01:47:09):
talking about. And she had a hell of a record
as far as I do. See you want a bunch
of states, I see I got. She win the balling
springs of course, the situation race I was just talking
about placed in the whole bunch of She want the
sheep said Bay Handicap, New York Handicap, and a couple
of other state races bucom Oat and she was fast.
(01:47:34):
She went a mile and track record time. I won
thirty four and three at at Aquador and she earned
six hundred and seventy five ninety nine dollars. So she
was a little bit better than an empty stall. Wasn't
(01:47:57):
see that was possible, mate, another Philly. The second running
of the Lake George Stakes was won by a Philly
named Video Jenic uh by Calcassas by Narzinski, the second
out of the Great race Mare quill at a video
bay By TV commercial. Yeah that's pretty good name and
(01:48:19):
video bab By TV commercial. How much time I got here? Yeah,
it's got a little time, not much. But but this
mayor did what she have ahead. I don't think you've
had anything you have run me? You know. Well they
had a stakes producer, but but she herself was a
good race mayor. Uh. She won nine stakes, including a
(01:48:42):
Grade one station, earning me in one hundred and sixty
four thousand dollars. So Video Jenic was quite a good
race mare as far as I go. Now we better
say something about the training center, Jackie. I kind of
miss it. We're doing this show from home today.
Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
It's a great place to train.
Speaker 3 (01:48:59):
Yeah, and we didn't get to feed all the cats
out there that we you.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
Know, my gosh, yeah, we forgot about them, but they're upset.
Speaker 3 (01:49:08):
Oh, probably chasing mice. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Oh my gosh, I forgot about the cat.
Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
There's four or five now, yeah, I know there's there's.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
There's the one that's Siamese.
Speaker 3 (01:49:25):
Yeah, pretty cat, isn't he spread?
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
He's the real deal, very white.
Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
And there's an old fashioned tiger cat you know.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Yeahs black ones.
Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
There're two black ones that they fuss over each other.
And whoever where we do this out there is he
calls himself the cat dead. Yeah, and he's got all
kinds of feed out there, so we we take we
take feed out and Michael brings some feed sometimes.
Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
Yeah, Michael has brought in a big old bagsod.
Speaker 3 (01:49:59):
Yeah, but then we we see those catching it. Well. Anyway,
it's serve By Training Center. It's a great place to
train your horses. What it boils down to, you can
take a yearling out there and unbroken and start him
right there, because you know you've got you've got a stolen.
You got to turn that fattics. You can graze him. Yeah,
(01:50:19):
they got the five ac of mile track. Well you
can take them down. The green horses stay down there
and then when they get mature enough and trained enough
and they can move up to the mile track and move.
Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
You know, another thing you don't think about much is
you take a yearling out there that's been on the farm.
If you take them somewhere where there's all kind of
stuff going on racing and the da da make the nervous,
you go somewhere like the turning centers, it's like it's
got the attitude of a farm. Yeah, you know, nobody
(01:50:51):
gets excited. Just calm down and you'll learn, and it's
it's excellent, wonderful place for young horses.
Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
It's right there, of cause you don't know whether the
Kentucky where the training is right there on the parish road.
Just you go get off the interstate up there and
heads south and it's just about a mile down the
road on the left.
Speaker 2 (01:51:17):
Right, correct.
Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
Yeah, so anyway, that's where it is. The outskirts of
excuse me, but they got a mile track in a
five ace mile track. They got a starting gate, they
got an official clarker. There was a whole lot better
than when I was clocking. They got grass, gallops, excellent facilities,
(01:51:42):
quiet atmosphere. You know. It's the reasonable stall rates. It's
hard to get stalls there. Call them an ass. The
number out there is an eight five nine number two
nine three eighteen fifty three. Call out there and ask
about it, and uh, if they don't have anything available,
(01:52:04):
the best thing you can do is put on your
walking shoes and go from from barn to bar and ash.
If everybody's got a couple of stalls leaves, Yeah, and
maybe more from the not to fact. Matter of fact,
one a week or two ago somebody had had obviously
had some stalls to read. Yeah, you know, because they
(01:52:25):
got to pay the rent on them. Whether there's a
horse in there? And I sure, okay, how much time?
How much time we got down there? The uh bow?
How many? Four? Four minutes? The mercy I can I
can grab away for another four minutes? Oh well, let's
(01:52:49):
see what else can I talk about? I have another
horse to talk about? Uh, I guess not.
Speaker 2 (01:52:59):
Well, that's a nice state for the races. You can
talk about the weather because it's not hot and it's
not muggy. Oh day is a beautiful day and it's
going to be in the seventies for the rest of
the week.
Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
Let's see where these uh, when these races go What
time does the travers go off today?
Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
Oh it's late, it's like six something.
Speaker 3 (01:53:23):
James didn't pick seven. Try today. I think he's wrong.
Oh oh, he knows more about gambling than he forgot,
more about gambling than I know. I'm a worse handicapper.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Yeah. And he didn't pick it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
He didn't pick seventy, picked somebody else? Who did he pick? Bow?
In the travers? Bow? I guess bos busy. Anyway, it's
just a five horse field. Was seventry in there for Magnitude, Bracketbusters,
(01:54:01):
Strategic Focused, seventy and McAfee and it goes off at
six fourteen eastern daylight time. It's raised number thirteen. Good
gut em. They're gonna be raising forever thirteen. He picked Magnitude. Yeah, okay,
let's see Magnitude. It says he turned in huge races
(01:54:26):
in the Grade three, Grade two Version Star and the
Our Derby. He's also the obvious speed from the rail,
which makes him extra dangerous for him it's all about
class lack other has he got enough? I said that, Oh,
(01:54:48):
but that's that's the one. Uh well, James, I was
gonna say, he's an other lot better handycap and I
ever was, and it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:54:58):
Well he's got the kind of memory that they can
hang on, the nitpicky little things that you know, kind
of help you choose.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
The only time I I it's something I can brag about.
It was out in California when I was in the
service and I was up at San Francisco, and I
hit the bike down to Santa Anita to watch the
Santa Anita Derby down there, and I got there after
the first ration, picked six straight winners, sick straight. Got
(01:55:32):
down to the last horse, and I had a couple
of guys with him, and they were hovering over who's
gonna pick, Who's gonna pick? And I couldn't make up
my mind. The last minute, I picked on the horse.
And I'll never forget his name name the Driller. Oh,
and it so help me as I'm sitting here right now.
There was a three horse photo finish and the Driller
won by nose.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
Oh that's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
So I flew back.
Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
Drink in hand.
Speaker 3 (01:56:00):
Yeah, I don't think they served drinks on that short
flight of it. And then well you know that's you
just go up and down there?
Speaker 2 (01:56:08):
Flying is real?
Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
What different? Yeah, okay, there's no one who can play
out boat. Well well, oh, happy trails, so come on
ninety seconds so it wasn't play a long A longer
version with happy trails.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
