There you go.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
Yeah, so grace yourselves looking forward to it. I feel
like I have entered the holy of holies here Ursul
and Jackie South. That's wonderful memorabilia and these pictures and
and uh, I've heard the stories of your grandfather and Major,
and uh, I got to just see a picture of him.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
He saw Major. He was on Major. My grandfather was
a Civil War veteran. And and he had a horse.
And he had a horse Colonel.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
That's how you do that.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
So he was the colonel and the horse was Major. Yeah,
he had ranked the horse.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Looking at the looking at the picture, looks like he
just came off the battlefield at Gettysburger somewhere.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah. And that was saying, is that picture the one
that was on the postcard?
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, I don't know if I've got any of those.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
You could go in there.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
His back's big sacks of him as a post guard. Yeah,
and he's on there and on the front Dan still
Major and views the scene of carnage. And there's a
picture of a battle in the back ben.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yeah, right up and the other side of the courthouse.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
He was quite a character, you know. He was. I
don't know if he was. I know he never drove
a car. But he died in nineteen He was ninety
two years old when he died in nineteen ninety one,
nineteen thirty one, nineteen thirty one. Excuse me, yeah, year
I was born.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Did he preach at the Mountain horb That's.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Where I met my dad?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Oh right, yeah, that was his son.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Nothing no, nothing out horror And there was a little
church on the Belmont farm and dad was working for
Bellmart Belmont Farm out on the Georgetown Pipe. I've got
a picture of my dad putting a halter on man
of war when he was young. Yea, the horse not dead.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
But I was going to say that that picture of
man of war and your dad, that's a young man
of war. Yeah he was, and he put the first
halt on him. But he looked like a Weiening in
that and he was big at that time. But I
don't think he.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Was a Weenland because if you look real close, I
think we were in of the the mayor standing in
the legs or hind legs standing there. I'd have to
go check out myself. Yeah. Anyway, but he put the
first holt on it when it was full and my
(07:18):
mother's father was preaching at the little chapel right there,
and that's where my dad met my mother.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Okay, so your dad married the daughter of a preacher.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah, which was a surprising knowing dad. Yes, that side
didn't take with you exactly either, did it. He was
born in nine, eighteen ninety two. My dad. He played
on a high school team for Lexington High School and
(07:57):
he was an all state fullback. And they've won every
game but won the last game they won't played. They
played a team the Swimmings, was a University of Kentucky
team funny and they got beat sixteen or nothing. Okay, Yeah, anyway,
(08:19):
he always to refer he always referred to him as
those dirty bastards. Yeah. Then he went in the service.
I've got a picture right out of him serving. He
went in the service for in the cavalry.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
He's about one of those one of.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Those your father said in World War one? Yeah, world
War one, Yeah, my goodness. Yeah, he enlisted and they
put him on a ship going to France and he
said that I was so sick over there sea sick.
(08:55):
I said I was afraid I was going to die.
And he said, the second half of the trip. I
was afraid. I wasn't, So he came back to me
boks and his helmet back. You know. Yeah, many years later,
I was around that time. I had a little twenty
two rifle and I set that helmet down there with
(09:17):
a twenty two short and put a hole in it.
You can put an egg in, you know. He just
looked at it and took his head.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
So how did he get his interest in starb red horses?
Did that come from your grandfather?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
How did your dad get into the horse business working
for August Belmont? Okay, meantime, he started out. He was
very young when he started working for August Belmont over.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
There on Georgetown Park where that the Man of War
all right, historic marker is.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, it was market right about where that the little
Tampa was, Okay, right across from that school done? Was
it lower deal?
Speaker 5 (10:02):
Oh, I know what you're talking about? Not far from
rows and Gems, Yeah, the bar and grills. I know,
we're I don't know what that is.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
That's terrible.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Alice. What's her name that we just trained for? Every
time you ask about if she knew? Oh well about
how far is that from the liquor.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Barn I have a hard time.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
With that anyway. She was, she was, okay, all.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Right, anyway, that's the history of my life. I might
as well sign off.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Not yet, you're not gone yet.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
You know. They had a birthday party from my friend Bob.
They had les and I had gone to a dermatologist
and yeah, yeah, that's what those are. Far They had
a top the way on me, so I didn't go.
He turned ninety nine on the first of the month.
Doctor Copeland. Yeah, Bob Copland, you know on K E. T.
(11:10):
They showed it was Monday night five days ago.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
They showed that documentary on thoroughbred racing that they did
about fifteen years ago. They show that about every yeah,
once once a year something, and it's so much fun
because most everybody in it, with a few exceptions, are
still with us. It's Arthur Hancock is a front and
(11:35):
center in that. But then doctor Copeland's in there and
he is explaining to people what they're looking for in breathing.
He's at the sales and the you know, yeah, I'm
out of my death but but you really get a
sense of what an articulate man he is as far
(11:59):
as explaining to the uninitiated, what are we looking.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
For here, you know?
Speaker 5 (12:03):
And why this is? You know, what happens when, you know,
the airways open up, and how they're supposed to and
what happens when they don't, and why it's important. And
he was I said, that's doctor Copeland. And I'd missed it.
The first time i'd seen that, or the other times
i've seen.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
That, I've never seen it.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Oh you really looked that up on your phone or something.
It was on you know, they show it. It was
a big deal when it first came out fifteen years ago,
and now it comes on every once in a while.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Ted Bassett's in it.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Yeah, and uh oh John, you know John Veet, and
he's telling stories about Admiral Marquis and uh he was
a very young trainer and he told the story he
went to Calumet where they wanted to talk to him
about training, and he got there, he said up. First
of all, limousine picked him up at the airport across
(13:02):
the way, brought him over there. The butler took his
suitcase and he had the first dress for cocktails and
then had to redress for dinner. And he said the
butler he got back to his room, and he said,
the butler said, so, I noticed that your man forgot
to pack your pajamas and your slippers. He said, so
(13:25):
I've taken the liberty of giving you some pajamas and
he and John said said, well, I'll certainly speak to
my man about that.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
That's pat.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
And I haven't is he still don't think so? Yeah,
I think so. I believe he is.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
But he was a great, great storyteller. And uh, you
know talking about Mary Jane Walls on there too, and
she's also you know the that was still you know,
the great families that were taking care of the the industry,
and you know they financed a lot of these tracks themselves.
(14:07):
And there's a school of thought now that we have
enough wealthy owners that our problems with you know, some
of our racetracks and the purse structures.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
And all that.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
Can you know, you think you can't high Leah make
it are not highly but Santa Anita, can you know
the trying to untangle all the things in Florida with
the tracks that you know, perhaps they uh conglomeration of
owners to go ahead and buy these tracks and operate
(14:42):
them the best they can, but with the understanding they
might not make a profit, but they allow the rest
of the industry to flourish.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Sounds like the ones that are buying ten events at racehorses.
What does that call my racehorse dot Com? My racehorse
dot could be mind track dot com.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
Ooh, Jackie, you're on something here, my racetrack dot com. Yeah,
we could, you know, we could start them.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
We went in for free.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
Yeah well, I mean we could be on the ground
floor of that deal.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Well, but but I love my racehorse dot Com. By
the way, they've been great supporters of old friends. And
we're going to do.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
A lot, a lot with Hell you what, it's coming
up to Christmas and they make great presents.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
A couple of years ago I bought We bought one
from Patrick and one from uh esther his wife, and
one of them I can't remember. They're not saying which
one is which uh is learning how to be a jumper,
and the other one has just worked by hurt. It
(15:52):
was off he's going to run again. So he's a
foo sage, you think it says? I think I can't remember,
you know, it was. It's a lot of fun. Yeah.
One Patrick had won his first start, and I think
the purse was it was a mission in the mission,
(16:13):
if I think he had something like the other one.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Was by that horse that when the Bellemont's take. It
wasn't a long time after, Uh can't. I can't remember
the horse's name now, but it didn't much make much.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Patrick the worst one. Maybe his share was thirty two thousand.
Patrick said, see, mine would be thirty two dollars and
I want it now.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Well, i'll tell you when I saw the whole group.
Uh well, when seized the gray one, the preatmusfore, that
was something. And of course mister Lucas that was his
last great triumph.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
And my good William Finite I was. I was there
for eight and it's a picture of him in the
winter circle. He's way in the back.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Yeah, it was a he said he'd never seen a
winter circle like that. But everybody's coming up and boy,
that group partied and they were so excited.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
And then that I saw them, I went to the
Pegasus at.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
Golf Stream and they had a big tent, uh, not
far from the finish line, and they were eating and
drinking and having the best time. Michael Barons is the
CEO of that outfit, and he was it's his kind
of brain child. He knew for a long time. And
I saw him in there just shaking hands and everything,
(17:37):
and I told him, I said, Michael, you have really
come up, and you've come up cost.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
Absolutely, as many people involved as possible, And that's what
we're trying to do with old friends. You know, people
come in there and not and they haven't always been
involved or known all this, and we're introducing. It's why
we show the videos to for them to understand that
this is these horses are a big deal, that we're
there and very very well known in the country and
(18:04):
and they people get excited. So I'd love to be
a part of this, but of course they say, well,
I don't have millions and millions. It's so that you
don't have to, you don't have to just to enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Yeah, that's fun, and that's uh, that's a great idea.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Yes, And so we're gonna we're gonna promote it and
then they're gonna make a contribution back to us, which
is which I think is pretty good, pretty good on
their part.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
So it's the new who's a trainer that's got one up?
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Now, you know, I don't know, you know, they they
do it with a little bit of everybody. I think
Baffort is, uh, you know, don't.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
I saw one the other day and I thought, wow,
you know that's a deeal. I think pletcher is. They
do big deal trainers and people wouldn't recognize.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Right right, and they don't. And it's not just one.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yeah, the whole bunch pretty neat. Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
But it was fun with Miss Lucas having him the season.
There's glad a guy.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
I went to his memorial service and that was that
was very it was, you know, upbeat in the celebration,
very moving. His grandson, uh west son and then grand
and then grandson gave his grandson gave a wonderful ulogy.
But I didn't I knew, but I didn't appreciate that
(19:25):
that like Bob Beffert, he came from the quarter horse world.
Oh yeah yeah, And I mean I knew he did.
But then, uh, you coached basketball and get well in
the in the you know a q h A and
in my horse park days, I had a lot. I
would always go to the a q h A convention
and we we recruited a lot of a q h
(19:46):
A competitions. That's a great organization there, the big they're
the biggest horse organization in the world as far as
a registree and and all that. And he was he
was recognized as they're one of their you know, great
pillars recently, I mean, and he he stayed in touch
(20:06):
with that, with that whole group.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
There a whole a whole bunch of outstanding trainers. Now
that came up under Lucas. That's right, as Lucas is.
I told them everything they know, so that I didn't
teach them everything that I know.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
But that was three or four hundred people at Churchill
for for that.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
That's it's just wonderful.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Yeah, and uh, that's right there. He coached coached basketball,
and uh, I think he kind of thought he could
have if with it. He'd been he was buying and
selling horses at the same time, and they were just horses,
and then they started buying some trotters and everything. He
(20:58):
quarter horses, excuse me, quarter horses. And then he finally
realized that there was more money with the bridge and
there was quarter horses, and you know, Baffort coach started
he started with quarter horses.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Also, we had.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
A quarter horse at the horse Park sargeipt Tepper feature
and uh he had won, you know, won a fair
amount of money in the quarter horse world. And that
was the first time I met Bob Baffort. Was when
we had to put put the horse down. Uh, and
he you know, it was an old horse, and so
we just sent the you know, the word out and
(21:33):
and uh, Bob showed up for the funeral service for
that horse.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Is that right? And we had a quarter horse that
used to be the exhibit out of the horse park.
But I was appreciated you, I'm sure. Yeah, in the
bridge barn.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Yeah, yeah, that's the why that bride and he was
one hundred years old and when she rode him.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Yeah. Uh he was a cribber. He was a louder quibber.
Oh yeah he was.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
No, he was a very good cripper. It was good
at it.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
Mike Michael Blowing loves cribbers.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
He loves cribb Yeah, yeah, he said, he said.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Everybody else just can't stand to me. He said, I
think they're smart. I like cribbers.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
They standing there and grab a fance gocause that los
to some kind of endorphans or something that's kind of
like smoking. I don't know if it's smoking cigarettes or
smoking something. It's a habit. Yeah, that they quit smoking,
they could quit cribb and that's what always Look at
the horse that major.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Was turned out with when he left us, so that was.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
All your yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Uh, but he was a want to be cribber. Yeah.
He goes stand next to the new fans part and
he'd take his upper teeth and push, but he never
got to the grunt push a couple to or three times.
Well that's nothing to this, I'll bet you he was
(23:05):
turned out of the Kerbert sometimes.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
Ye, I'll trying to find the water fall about it.
But it's like, uh, smoking marijuana and not in haaling,
like you know what the Clinton he said, I didn't inhale.
Speaker 1 (23:19):

Speaker 5 (27:02):
As usual or so. This morning we're having the Sister
City's delegation from Tahara, Japan coming out to visit us
up in northern Japan. Yes, yes, and it's an agricultural
community with a Toyota Motor manufacturing plant, so kind of
(27:25):
a mirror city of Georgetown. So Mayor Jenkins is bringing
them them out. So we're looking forward to seeing them because,
as you know, we have there's an old friends in
Japan that is affiliated with us because they, you know,
they wanted to emulate what we do here and asked
(27:49):
if we could, if they could borrow our name many
years ago. When I came aboard a year and a
half ago, I loved their logo, and so we made
a kind of a deal. Let's you know, you keep
you keep our name, but can we use this logo. Yeah,
it's nice and it just lends itself to a parel
and all that. That's those things are important for catchlo
(28:11):
that yeah, yeah, the zoom. Yeah, she's certainly he's not
not shy. It's no that, you know. So we're excited
about that. Yesterday, our Soul we had PBS, the Public
Book Broadcasting System out and they have a show that
(28:33):
does festivals, the festivals all over the country. Well they're
here to do what was always called the Festival the Horse,
they now called the best of the bluegrass, and so
they came out and they're going to do a segment
on PBS about old friends, and so that was fun
and exciting. We were busy yesterday and have been. Every
(28:59):
one of our tours were booked. Michael had a couple
of special tours. I had uh a tour this week.
We had the Kentucky Horseshoeting School out to tram all
the horses at all all four of our Scott County farms.
And that's always fun too, because when you have the
tours and you have these students under the tutelage of
(29:22):
their instructors working on these horses, well that's kind of
fun to be able to explain to people, you know
the importance of good hoof care. You know, we and
we know that no no no horse, you know, no
no foot, no horse. So uh that that was happening
all week, and you know, the the out pouring of
(29:47):
fentiment for Little Silver Charm, and of course when I
was with you all last week, we had just had
to to put down Little Silver Charm that night, that
previous night and the this week, I mean, the flowers
have come in. People have said very very nice things
and sent cards, and the local paper pot have lived
(30:11):
with a story. Is that our ambassador, not just old
friends ambassador, but the ambassador for the community. Yeah, uh,
had had left us. And they had a cartoon, you know,
a dignified cartoon with little silver charm with a like
(30:34):
a garland of roses around him saying the People's champion,
which was so which was so nice. But I think
it was, you know, kind of a source of comfort
to everybody on the farm because you know, we missed
the little you know, we missed the little guy, and
certainly for Michael and Diane. You know, he's been part
(30:54):
of their family for twenty five years. You know, you
all know the story Michael said, made that little horse
from from the killed him. And next thing, you know,
in Boston here he has got a miniature horse, and
so you know, what are you gonna do? So he
comes to Midway and it's this guy is marching up
(31:15):
and down the steps, up and down the sidewalks everywhere.
None of them like Major and your grandfather, I guess,
but and and generally people like to do it. There
was some malecontent and Midway who didn't like the idea
of a horse going up and down the streets and
said that there was some city ordinance and he was
(31:37):
going to invoke this city ordinance and.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
He was not going to have it.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
And all this well, there there became a campaign within
Midway led led by not only Michael, but really the
charge was led by Penny Sheennery, and they went door
to door with a petition to so we you sign
this petition on behalf of this little horse who will
just all he wants to do is just be part
(32:00):
of the community. And we're going to take it to
the city council, and the city council and a big
crowd and the whole thing amended the ordinance to allow
little Silver Charms to We used.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
To go down there line and we had a nice
restaurant down there in Midway, and then they had to bill,
they had to bar closing. Yeah, anyway, we went down
We went down to that all the time, and they
made me an honorary citizen of the honorary honor. I said,
(32:38):
that's fine, I don't have fake taxes. That's when I
think Bojar did you know done bo Yes, yeah, yeah,
that was when he was I guess he was the mayor.
He was the mayor for a long time, used to
play football, not now. Uh.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
And I just met the mayor recently in the It
seems like a super nice guy. And his name's escaped
to me right now, but a really nice nice guy.
Mid waste of just a cool community like Paris. They
like Georgetown, yet all got their own characterstown. Georgetown's have
gloom into. Georgetown is prospering. And I'm going to go
(33:18):
to the after we greet our friends from Tahara, Japan,
our sister city, I'm going to go over to the festival. Uh,
you know, the festival the Horse which they are now
renaming to be Best of the Bluegrass. It's happening in Georgetown,
and so the streets are closed off and there and
there's great you know great.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Now Yeah, oh, I didn't realize that.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
I'm not sure I'm going to park.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
I'm gonna have to figure that out. They have designated
parking and the Japanese is going on that.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Oh yeah, that's there in town for that. And then,
by the way, speaking of our Japanese friends, on Tuesday
this week, uh, the president of j r A, the
JAPP and He's racing association, who I expect is here
for the sales uh, he and his contingent are coming
over to old friends and.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Mark yes, doing it during the sales because they're going
to come. Yes, that is so smart, see.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
You know, and they were. He was at Arthur's Arthur
Hancock's induction to the Hall of Fame. They came and
gave us special their own special presentation to Arthur for
really for Sunday Silence, because that was the beginning of
a lot of this American American studs going over there,
(34:38):
and to their credit, they said, you have you made
a significant contribution to the quality of Thorobred racing in Japan.
Sunday Silence over there moment. Good for them for recognizing
that and paying tribute to Arthur Hancock for that.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
That's nice.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
So they're going to be they're going to be at
the farm. I mean, Michael and I just looked about
four point thirty yesterday. We had been running around, you know,
with people bumping into each other all day. It was
every you know people there kind of organized bedroom everywhere,
and about four point thirty we just let a you know,
(35:16):
a big sigh out, So what a day and just laughed,
yeah about you know what we've gotten in what Michael started,
and what I've gotten into.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
I know, it's amazing. The first there was nothing and
now this, I mean, that's it. Well every seting I
think about that mine.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
What was the name of that mayor that he took
in the first rescue and nobody left the mayor at
it to phasey tip and say you just left her
there because there was no bids and they took off
and just lifting in a stove.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
It was a market try, that's all. I'm not thinking
of the right horse. I'm trying to think of the
no mo Country was a big flashy chest and she's yeah,
that's not it, that's not I'm trying to think that
her name suited when it happened to her, Michael text
text me, oh is that right?
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Yeah, I forget Michael's probably sending them.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Yeah, hopefully he'll send it. Send the text of piece.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Uh there narrow escape, narrow Escape year. So that'said.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
I was trying because the reason I said market trees
because he wears these belts with his original horses all
around and out, like I was looking for that know.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
What one a good race horse? Yeah, and big chestnut horse. Yeah,
I remember him and uh but narrow Escape was there. Yeah, words, yeah, shocked, shock,
I am too for I forget a lot of things.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
William Well, in those early early days, he's not many
people thought that this idea was going to make it.
And that's when I when I arnt of them.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, me too.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
When I was first I met Michael at the Haula
champions Uh you know, we were looking at both Forbes
and Forego was there and John Henry was there, and
he told me, he goes, you know, the Boston Globe
and all this, and he said, I he goes. I'm
amazed at how these people love these horses just like
(37:27):
I did in Luck would love to visit them. So
I'm going to start my own farm and over in
Midway and I'm going to have these these old horses
and people are going to come see him too. And
I said, well, I am all for you. I'm out.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
With the foundation or yeah, Bred Retirement Founder Foundation.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
That's when you first started coming on the show. Yeah. God,
that was back two thousand, two thousand and two.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
It was real interesting. How for something like that to
make it, there has to be one Michael, Yeah, not.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
I I'm not sure anybody and it was could have
done that now.
Speaker 5 (38:10):
Because it flies in the face of logic.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Yeah, as Barry Jones over. Yeah, it's like good luck.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
They're scribbling a picture of a mouth.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
Yeah, and it takes a vision and someone who's who's
immune to being told no, it doesn't mean, you know,
it doesn't matter. And every day I'm very close to it,
and I do not understand to this day how it works.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
But it did. I'm going to have to interrupt you, man.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
It was perseverance.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
It's time to pay the bills here. The three hundred
started that off, right, I'm wrong right there. The one
hundred and thirty five thousand a Saranac stakes, when left
on September one at Saratoga, was won by Stars and Strides,
three old Coote by American Pharaoh. Then on Thursday at
(39:08):
Kentucky Downs, Pharaoh's Wine, a four year old Philly by
American Pharaoh won the five hundred thousand dollar Mint one
Dreamer Stakes. Stars and Strides bred by Pillars holding was
sold for four hundred and seventy four thousand at Keenan
September seve He's won three of his four stars, all
at Saratoga. Then on Thursday at Kentucky Downs. Pharaoh's Wine,
(39:30):
a four year old Philly by American Pharaoh, by Purcella
Racing Frank ale Shoot, Frank al Jones and Nancy DeLong,
won the five hundred thousand dollar Mint Won Dreamer Stakes.
Pharaoh's Wine has placed in three other stakes, two at
Keenan and earned eight hundred and forty seven four hundred
and seventy five dollars. American Pharaoh has shoed eight Grade
(39:53):
one stakes winners. He has consistently ranked among the nation's
leading stars. He's right there again this year. In fact,
he is one one of six Ashwood Stads ranked among
the top twenty on the North American stylists. Nor other
Stern farm can match then Ashwind Stern's the other triple
crown winner justified. He's also having a good year. He's
decived fourteen to twenty twenty five stakes winners, twenty two
(40:16):
States soldiers, four granted station runers, two of them Grade
one stakeshoinners, and if you admire in the Mischief, his
most successful son at stud Practical Joke and his half
brother Mendelssohn, both stand at Ashford Stun and both the
ranked among the top twenty on the North American stylist
Pasco Joke has twelve twenty twenty five stakes runners, four
(40:37):
graded thirty during black type. Mendelssohn has seven twenty twenty
five stakes runners twenty that have won a placed in stakes.
But they have a splendid selection of proven sires and
futures and the leading size at the Ashford stood so
give him a call at eight five nine, eight seven,
three seventy eighty eight and the whips has coolmore dot com.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Now don't want to mention a few things about our
friend Ralph Queen. Ralph Queen has a fantastic chump whatever
he does. And you were talking about Michael, and you
don't know anybody except you know that kind of energy
and stuff Ralph's cueing. He's just he's just about transformed
downtown Paris. It looks beautiful he did, but you know,
(41:22):
he owned some buildings and he woved what.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
You know, if they tore him all down and it
looked like Burlin in the World War.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
Oh okay, Well, it's just that he's one of those
guys that get stuff done, and his that kind of
enthusiasm is really really need turned clueing leather and tack
into best tax shop. I guess I can't think of anything.
I think so too.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
They do a lot of business overseas.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
Oh, they do tons in Japan, and that's what I
was thinking about it. Oh yeah, okay. I used to
sometimes they'd have Japanese racing on in the morning. You know. Yeah,
they said, what ooh, that's quilling ooh, it's really really
good stuff. Well, they ship more than twenty thousand dollarsars
a year, so you know, some of them have to
(42:18):
drop in on Japan. But anyway, it's quillant Ui L
L I N dot com Paris nine eight seven two
one five. And they're on main Street. Now. Last week
you all gave me a lecture on where they were
on mainStreet. So all I'm gonna say is drive down
(42:39):
Main Street and look on the right side. You'll see
it to great, big, nice building and everything.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
You said it was a cos from all of them lives.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Well it is, but it's down further.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Down further on the left there on the right. Here
we're going again. We're going.
Speaker 5 (42:57):
I'm not going, We'll starting up all this stuff again.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Gonna be big trouble.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
Yeah, there's gonna be picture. But anyway, just for fun.
You know, that's a stop on the tourist buses too,
because it's so fascinating. And all their leather is English
bridle leather. It's beautiful stuff. And we've got turnout halters
down in the barn that must be twenty years old.
They're still fine, you know, and they clean up and turnout.
(43:24):
It's what they were made for. And they're just they
don't die.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
They just well, we ran out of horses before we
ran out of getn't at the truth. Yeah, that's amazing
that anyway.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Ran out of horses before we ran out of tack.
That's the truth.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
This is the first time in my lifetime of mature lifetime,
that I've haven't owned the horse.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Well, the sales are the sales are going on. Make
it bed.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
Now. You can't lead it moneymore when and get to us.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Shouldn't be around a horse.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
No, that's that, you know. That was one thing about uh,
a loose and a gin. When we got him, he
was head shy. Somebody had bunked him a couple of
times on the head. But he was better at it,
but still at his advanced stage. If you moved your
right arm too quick. It wouldn't back up, But he said,
(44:26):
and look at you. Funny, you know, because they never
get over that.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Horse anyway.
Speaker 5 (44:32):
Yeah, we've got a few like that. It's interesting. Every
every one of those horses had something.
Speaker 3 (44:38):
Yeah. Yeah, we pulled a horse from up in Cynthiana
one time that you know. We brought him home and
when you walk in the stall, he put his head
in the corner and his eyes and shook, waiting to
be beaten.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
No what he was waiting for. Yeah, it was put
a curb bit in their mouth. And you've broken from that, Yeah,
that's what it was. Who haven't We should have known
because when we went down to look at him, they
already had him tacked up and everything.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Yeah, that's a different way.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
They have this vicious looking curve that using it.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
You know, I think they beating too. That's why he
ducked his rear end down waiting to be hit. Well,
but he got over it.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
You had to work how many hours I don't know,
but he must sweep, take a nice chaffle bit and put.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Uh some sweet glasses or something, and he got so
he loved us after a while, and he figured it
out and what he was going to hurt him and
we found a good home for him and he wound
up a pony cover.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
Oh yeah, that was that was terrific. He was a
great guy. So anyway, that's kind of well. See there
I am talking about Quilling and then I started talking
about Okay, anyway, he listen Quilling q U I L
L I N dot com in teris nine eighty seven
oh two one five.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
All right, now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and
Ursa ellis.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
You know I spent some time in Japan. I was
over there. Oh that's what you were.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
You were with the they sent the United States government
paid for your trip over there, didn't Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
They sent me to move over there to learn Morse code.
And it was in Sasobo, which is down on the
southern end of Japan. I got down there and I
couldn't speak when I got in, went off and catch
find whereas was. I found a map and it was
(46:57):
I was, you know, up in your cups goog which
was up midway up and I said, and it's down
at the bottom. I said, oh lord. So I found
the station, you know, train station there, and I'd go
up to and I'd say accessible, I sold. You know.
(47:19):
We were riding down through there and there's train and
all of a sudden, everybody was sitting there and everybody
in the train car started putting the windows up. I said,
what the hell is this? You know one? And so
I put mine up too, thanks Nis. We went into
a tunnel there and there's all this smoke coming back out.
(47:40):
Uh so, well that Elkhorn Creek. Do you still know
your Morse code? Oh? Yeah, really?
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Oh yeah, he remembers that he can do it.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
I go into the offices and you know, like you
know how you go into a dock or something, you know,
and you're sitting there eating for the doctor, and I
look at all the signs like I can look at
you know blue all you said, it just comes naturally. Yeah. Wow.
What did they tell you to do? Is? Is your
years sound? You hit a key? Yeah, and it's a
(48:16):
it's a it's a knack. And I had the knack.
I came out of there. They sent a letter back
to the ship and said, I've been the most outstanding
student that ever had in to that school. And it
was just a knack. And it has nothing to do
with intelligence and all can't have anything to do with
(48:39):
with communicating with bookies. I think I'll tell you, what
is it you think I would be able to do
something like call a race right like? And I couldn't
call it a race save Now that's a knack too,
that is to have that kind of memory that that
is that's ancients every race. I couldn't do that.
Speaker 5 (49:02):
For as I've witnessed at a couple of times that
Kinglan being up there, I couldn't.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
It's fascinating. I could sit down there and put those
earphones on and sit there in the heaven like there's
a cup of coffee. Drink a cup of coffee, and
I call every Every ship has a call sign. And
if they call my call sign, you know, they didn't
even wake me up and immediately go to listening. You
(49:32):
don't stop the coffin coffee and the cold. The best
thing ever happened that I had a big kick out
of this. Didn't like it. Captain of the ship anyway,
we were we were outside of the Yakushka and it
was really rough and he's wanted to send him, well
we're into the base in there. That it was really
(49:55):
rough out there, you know, And he recommended people stay
out and it's calm down a little bit. So he
sent me, told me to send this letter, this message that,
and I couldn't get you, cous good, to save my life.
I was sitting there, sitting there, and way in the background,
(50:17):
I can hear somebody say him, send him, send you
a message, you know, they send you a king and
then ky and I said, not it, I and send
this message out. So I sent it. I said, I
wonder where When I looked it up and went to normal, Alaska,
they called in. Did you get that message out to you? Sir? Lord?
Speaker 5 (50:42):
Jeez uh, Well, I'm going to have to speaking of again,
of Japan. I'm gonna have to go and greet our
Japanese guests. I need to get back to the farm.
But again, it's what a trip pleasure for me, a
privilege to be in my Holy Holy the Holy is here.
Speaker 3 (51:01):
But all need you say hello in Japan Japanese.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
I don't know good now for tillion hours goodbye. I
know I know sushi and Bond's eye, and I've forgotten
all that. I haven't forgot the code, but I.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
Forgot you jump out of the plane.
Speaker 5 (51:20):
Yeah something, Yeah, be careful I'll say that. Well, I'm
the point now and the next next few minutes I'm
blowing up on my Japanese.
Speaker 3 (51:30):
Thanks for coming, thanks for coming back down.
Speaker 1 (51:33):
Okay, you say, but in the midst of Sada. The
winters are two stakes last Saturday and then added a
third on the Labor Day. Two of them are Grade
one steaks. Tommy Joe ran On must been through it
from is undefeated. She won the Great Ones Anyway at
Saratoga about six and a half flanks on Saturday. That
same day, Citizen Bull when they shared Belief stakes at
(51:54):
del Mark. Citisan Bull won the Great One breeders Cut
Juvenile Stakes last year, and he's already earned a million,
five hundred and fifty six thousand dollars. Then on Labor Day,
Ted Nafi won the Grade one Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga,
carrying a spenser of silks. He won by eight and
a half lengths. Like Tom and Joe, he is undefeated
(52:16):
in the MISSIPHII CYA eighteen States winners this year thirteen
Grade five, Grade one. He's number one in every category
you can think of. The number one second cop Sire,
but Coma also stands at Spendthrier Wacoma has eleven twenty
twenty five stakes winners fourth grade, including praying win on
the last Saturday of the grade. Three prior states at Saratoga.
(52:37):
And while we're added the number one ranked first cop
sire Yophon, he stands at Spencer Farm, as does the
number one ranked third crops are Omaha beat. To sum
it up, the nation's leading sire, leading first copsire, leading
seven cops, fire and leading third crops are all standard
Spencerer Farm, Good breeders Farm. Seems to me that if
(52:59):
you're looking for stakes winner, look first to yearlings by
Spencer's Day and at the sales are book Americ to
a Spencer's stay in for twenty twenty six. It's called
bed Mark or Brown or Daniel eight five, nine, four
years old thirty and they will help you find the
right stay in at the right price and be sure
(53:20):
to ask you about breeding incentives. And the website is
Spensive Farms dot com.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Okay, say a few words about our friend Hill Parker.
Hill Parker is such a nice guy for crying out loud.
He is a real estate broker and of all things
in this area, he is a force farm specialist. He
(53:47):
has done it. He's had farms. He has all the credentials,
of course of a realtor, which means you know the zoning,
you know the specs, you know the regulation as you
know the state and the local and when they're going
to get together and have their meetings kind of stuff.
He does all that stuff. That's great. On the other hand,
(54:10):
he's a licensed horse trainer in eleven stakes, years of
experience with racehorses and steeplechase horses and event and all
that stuff. So when you're going to build a farm
for horses, it's a specific set of knowledge that you
(54:35):
have to have because everything changes if you go from
raising bruden mayors and for sales and raising horses to
train and all that kind of stuff. It all changes
when you change what your idea is and you have
(54:56):
to know all that stuff. And he wants to know
your long term plans and where you're going to put
the You don't want to put the hay a couple
of miles down the road. You want the hay close
to where you're going to use it, and all that
kind of stuff. It's all I just it's very specific
and there's no guessing. You guess you wind up making
(55:19):
a mess out of that. So so work with an
experienced age gante. You want somebody for sure specializes in
horse related properties, and that's our buddy Hill Parker, and
he's got more energy that I can keep up with.
(55:41):
Tell you truth.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
Well, the best way to get in touch with Hill
actually is I go to his website, which is Lexhorsefarms
dot com. Great website, and let me give you a
cell number. It's an eighty five to nine number, of course,
six zog three nine. That's Hill and Regan Parker. Wonderful
(56:04):
people recommend them highly and you know, the nicest people
you'd ever want to meet. It's worth to call him,
just talk to him. So anyway, Hill and Reagan Parker
at lex Horsfarms dot com.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursa ellis.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
All right, but we're doing the show from here in
in Bourbon County and our little farm up here right now,
and Bo come up for a minute. I want to
talk to you. Yeah, well, good morning to you, my friend.
(56:48):
It goes down at the studio. Talk to James Scully
yesterday and he's going to call in and do one
or two things every week because we're going to be
doing the show here. Uh, probably more often than not. Anyway,
he will either call up and call in and do it,
(57:14):
do you know lives, which which I hope he'd do,
or he will call and give you some winners.
Speaker 6 (57:22):
Anyway, So well, I do have some winners from James.
He just texted a man to me.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
Oh okay, well, then let me let me do this
commercial and I get back to you and then you
can give us those winners. I hope we can get
him to come in. I love for him to come in,
but you know, he's uh, he's he's busy and uh
he's Jackie's over here making faces at my Farmay. I
(57:48):
was supposed to be hiding something. I guess I don't know.
But anyway, I want to get to the top of
the hour. Here. We're there he is. Now. We got
a couple of minutest it anyway, but we might as
well go ahead and do it. I'll go ahead and
do the Airdrie and then I'll get back to you. Okay.
Speaker 6 (58:11):
That sounds good Earthyle Okay.
Speaker 1 (58:15):
Well. DRIs Studd was the second leading breeder of stakes winners,
second only to Godolphin. In twenty twenty three, twenty twenty
four and twenty twenty five. They know how to raise
runners at Edris stud That said, they've consigned two yearings

Sale see them in Barn twelve. Hip number thirty nine

Speaker 6 (01:00:57):
I've taken notes because the Kentucky Lottery has it's not
been working out for me those past week, so I'm

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
Give them money back. Okay, well, thank you so much.
Of course. Uh. James is with Bloodstock Research Information Services,
and it's a great organization, you know. Uh. Matter of fact,
you you can pick up your Kentucky Handicap or sheet,
(01:01:25):
which is a very interesting thing, and you pick it
up right out of the Red Mouth or go to
bristnet dot com b R I, S N e T
dot com and they'll have it for you. Of course.
You know. The thing is if you you can get
unlimited access to handicap handicap in there. You know, past performances,
(01:01:48):
pedigree were all data like that, and it's very inexpensive
as far as that goes. The best thing I think
they put out is a produce record only they give
the pedigrees of every mayor that's folded around and and
all their folds and everything. You can go to that
and it's inexpensive. And it's a great reference. Uh too.
(01:02:13):
So once again, if you go into the red Mole,
you can get you can tuck your handicap of sheet
is available right now at or you can go to
bristnett b R I s n e T dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
Where did they get all that money? My gosh?
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Oh for gambling?
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Well, I know what you're saying, but let's see, I've

our friends over a Toba and give you the stakes.
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
Look at that stack of steaks.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
I know the stakes from last week well as the

Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Yeah, they are brought.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
To tip off the old block. Yeah, the Grade one
three that found out of hopeful stakes went to Ted
and Knaffi. Jackie, you want to tell him a story
about Ted Knaffi. Oh yeah, that's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
This is so cute. Ned Toffee works at Spencer. He's
one of the managers.
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
He is the manager.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
He is the manager. Okay. And somebody sent in or
there was a typing error instead of Ned Toffee. It
came back Ted and Offfe. So everybody got a big
charge out of that. Start was hilarious. And they named
that horse.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
I have to think.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Before I say it Ted and Offfy.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
And what could he win up there? Everybody was there?
He went there too, and the horse one.
Speaker 1 (01:13:04):
Was in the winter circle. He loved it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
Yeah, it's just amazing. You try to set something up
like that and it ever works. But it did that well.
Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
They bought his horse. I didn't breed it, you know,
they bought him.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
He isn't in the mischief. And uh, pretty good. He
won like a good thing. And he went by eating
a half LANs and the Grade one hopeful steakes three
hundred thound dollar pot so then bread by Aaron and
Marie Jones.
Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
Yeah, we I got a uh message from our friend
Texas Terry. Yeah when when he won and she put
he's the real thing. Eight and a half flanks who.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Remember our listeners down and the Longhorned state the Grade
one three hundred down I spin Away at Saratoga. We
went to Tommy Joe and that's another in the mission and
this one was bread by Spend three farm and carries
his spend through silk so and she won about five
(01:14:14):
and a half lengths. So she that was two Grade
one two year olds in the same the same day,
now one day apart. Wow, and that's something that count
for stud horses. He'd been that's me if he if
he and he's going to top the sulist this U
(01:14:35):
this year, it'll be seven years in a row with you,
right number one.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):

Yeah, okay, Tommy Joe. And let's see the Grade one
one million dollar Pacific Classic winner was Fierceness our City
of Life read by her Polish stables at Kentucky downs
the UH Grade two two million dollar min Kentucky Turf Sprint.
(01:15:06):
That must be the Fons from Mint something. It's a
Kentucky turf sprint and Bear River won that bear river
led from post to post ran three quarters a mile
of one O seven and three, and that was he
missed the stakes record with a track record by just
(01:15:29):
one one fifth of a second. I should say course records.
Of course, everything's on the grass down there. And he
was by that good son of the goat Daddy that
stands out a Darby Day named flame Away, grand looking
horse too, and he was built by dream Field's Don
Brady and Brendan Burke. And flame Away has been a
(01:15:56):
real nice popular stood at at at Darby Dan. All right,
let's see. The Grade two del Mar mile was one
by formingable man by City of Light read by Town
and Country Horse Farms. The Grade two two million dollars
(01:16:16):

Koma who had spend three farm read by Jeff Kerber
out of a Mary name Pray for Leslie. I just
wanted to do it, but praying was by three old
Phillips one hundred and thirty five thousand dollars Saranac steaks
at to them. I went to Stars and Strides. That's
(01:17:04):
that's an American Pharaoh. One of my favorite horses, Triple
Ground went about four pillars Holdings went out to see
American fhearuh remember Jackie you went, we went together. Yeah,
so I'm just uh right. When they retired him, his
Triple Ground winner, of course. Yeah, and he he was
(01:17:25):
such a best thing about him with the attitude he
didn't give him. He didn't care about anything, to do
anything he wanted to. Yeah, we walked in and they
were cleaning him off and had this big blower on him.
Remember that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
Yeah, he would stand there asleep, felt.
Speaker 1 (01:17:43):
Good, but felt gun. Yeah that puts me to sleep too.
But anyway, but he he was really well mannered horse,
you know. Was Yeah. Then we went down to see
alcohol and they said, don't get too close to him. Yeah,
I don't come on check out though I hated that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
I hate that too. I hate it when I'm very
successful or everybody knows his name and all that good stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
Ye uh. The Sarenac at Saratoga went to Stars and
Strides by American Federals and four pillars holdies. We just
said that, didn't one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars
shared relief steaks. And then I went to Citizens bull
By and the Mischief, Beverie Robin and Lawana Lowe one
(01:18:35):
hundred thousand dollars Romsan steaks at Mama Park, Tiber Slugger
on that by Cairo Prince very nice stood or stands
over at Drew stud and this one bred by Frankfurt
Park Farm, the five hundred thousand dollars one Dreamer stake

down at Yeah, Georgetown too.
Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
Is that right? I just well, I could have been Georgetown,
a big car dealers.
Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
I think you're right. I think it was Frankly one
hundred thousand dollars Kentucky Juvenile Philly States as Kentucky Down merangue.
Is that the way he said it? Pronounce said m
E r I n g u E.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
Merangue is that it's like a merangue on the pup.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
That's stuff on a top of yeah know the stuff.
You'll like it. Oh yeah, I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Except years ago in an old movie, an old friends
stare movie, they did the merengue, which was a dance
the South American chit choo. What child?
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
I didn't know much about that. Well merangue anyway, Uh,
it's pretty well named. It's the Philly about frosted there
you are.
Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
Yeah, aha, this is a good thing.
Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
I don't know how the people have bred this horse.
The farm name is is I don't know. I don't
understand it. It's m E s I n g W Farm.
Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
I got a feeling that.
Speaker 1 (01:20:45):
W should have been so it would be Messing Farm
E s I n g Farm, Messing Farm. It's Kentucky
bring and I don't know those people. But the better
runner hunter found out a red bank stakes at Mama Park. Uh,
because you know when that by Twirling Candy fled by
(01:21:08):
Gage Hill Stables, ALLC and W s will ferish. And
what I'd better do right now is pale Bill, I
can find my commercials they're the derbris debris of ah.
(01:21:28):
I'm putting all this on top of them, and I
shouldn't be doing that. I'll find it in there, folks.
Speaker 3 (01:21:39):
In there, you're coming up on it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:42):
I suspend through the cool bar. I'll find where we go.
Speaker 3 (01:21:52):
Crayman Farm, Okay, I almost got out of my chair.
Speaker 1 (01:21:57):
Well, I don't do that to you now. Claven Farm,
in the last twenty years has raised forty two Grade
one winners, one hundred and thirty three Great in States
winners and States winner's too many to count, but keep
that mind. When you see a year in consigned to
your keen in September Savings by Feburn walking to the
sales ring, Betiette. Look them up in Barn one. It's
(01:22:20):
place to start. Then go to Barn six, where you
will find yearlings by Warfront and the Constitution. A couple
of them by not this time. There's a tapping and
there's a hard spun all out of Book one Mayors
and Claven's Book two consignment was also solid with the
youngsters by such size as Curling and Good Magic, and
(01:22:41):
in the midsis from Quality Road and Uncle Old flight
Line Dimension a few Let me feat Craven Farmers produced
one hundred and thirty three Greatest Stakes winners forty two
Grade one stakes winners. Among the latter group, you will
find the young Annapolis, a multiple Grade one by the
remark of his successful Clevern sy war from an Appolis

and they're also good looking. There also is the Cleven
Mayor Blame Claban Bread Blame win on the Breeders Cup
Classic and one of the Eclipse Award. He's a sire

and the website of course, is claiming farm dot com.
Alrighty Hope, Well that's right, Jackie Hope.
Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
Well, well our friends evert Hope well farm hopefull farm.
I'm all right, I'll be fine. Okay. We had a
little accident. Well fake it. Some old lady hit me anyway,
(01:24:35):
I said, some old lady and.
Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
Some other old lady.
Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Parish was sitting right behind me, and he said, some
old lady. Very funny. Okay, anyway, Oh, it wasn't it
wasn't uh any kind of stress on us. They took
care of it. It was great. I mean, they just
called him up, you know, they said, well, I see it,
(01:25:04):
told me what to ask the cop, you know, and
all that, and that was it. And they have been
like that. We haven't had all that many. I think.
One of the most interesting ones we had part of
bad weather one February a couple of years ago, and
(01:25:25):
we lost our electric. And what happened is we got
struck by lightning. But it it sizzled the wires, as
I understand it, and they came down that afternoon. He
brought Limbo Electric with him and they hooked it up
so like we could have heat, you know, refrigerator, and
(01:25:49):
that kind of stuff, and even hooked up the stove
so I could cook. I could have done without that.
But they're super people. You call them up and you
don't have to press buttons. They're an independent insurance agency.
They're a small town insurance agency. The thing is is,
(01:26:13):
what's so clever about it is they're not tied to
some mega monster worldwide insurance company. What they can do.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
What they do is they shop around when they use
a carefully selected group of financially sound, reputable companies, so
they give you the best coverage at the best price,
and they will provide you with a no cost, no
obligation review in comparison of your insurance. So hopeful company.
(01:26:49):
It's been in business since nineteen fifty five, so they
have to be doing it right or they wouldn't be
in business that long. Anyway, it's a full service insurance
they're there. It's a local number. Ninety eight seven two
three four seven. That's ninety eight seven two three four seven.
Are stopped by the offices eight twenty. They're real nice
(01:27:11):
offices too, Yeah, yeah, eight twenty Main Street in Paris.
They're great people and they'll do a good job for you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:21):
Yeah, they are. They are good. That they're taking care
of us right now is right as as.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
A matter of fact, some one little detail God overlooked
by us and that's okay. They're gonna fix it. Yeah,
super super people.
Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Oh right, let's get back to these states from last week.
There's got a few more here, Mama Park. The sapling
is one hundred out of states for two year olds
and the winner one more few food food? What if
r eu d freud One more freud the tunnel list
(01:28:05):
out of Freudy and finish whatever verd bred in Kentucky
by Larry hoes Hey won't look at it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:16):
Okay, that's the kind of interesting. One more freud by
out of Freudian finish. I don't know what a Freudian finishes,
the ed, the ego and the super ego. Maybe he's
got something to do with that. That's fraud.
Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
Here you go. There're one million dollars Kentucky Down's juvenal
Sprint Jimmy's Red Storm by Twirling Candy read by Saint
uh Elias Stables, another Kentucky Downs. Just when thee million
dollars Kentucky Down's juvenile Philly Steaks went to well, I'll
(01:28:57):
give you that. That's a Frosty mom, same horse both times.
The Albuquerque I know they it's really excited about this,
the Budweiser special and Albuquerque as bender one that how
(01:29:18):
about that by curling bread by Clavern Farm huh seven
year old building mhm. And we've got one foreign one also,
and this is also involved Clavern and the Grand Prix
d Douville Group. Two steaks run over there on the
(01:29:41):
thirtieth won by Saballian French bed guilding. He's four year old,
is by blame. The coach stands over there, and he
was bred and is owned by the Aga Khan.
Speaker 3 (01:29:56):
It's bread by the Aga Khan. Yeah I did, no,
he was still alive.
Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
Well, there's a list of them, you know that. Oh
this is not the one that married Rita. He works.
Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
Oh I was gonna say, he must be long gone.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
God.
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
So well, yeah, she was. She was quite our girl.
Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
He was quite spectacular. Yes, she was more ways than one,
I understand. Oh, but we won't go into that. Let's
see they got it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
You're the one that's interested in girls.
Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
I don't care. I'm just interested in But I've forgotten
why let's see good boy, okay, all right, well let's
look at Darby Dan.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
Good people over there, Stuart Fitzgibbings over there, you're dealing
with me. Another young man over there too, Jake, Jake. Yeah.
I think she's Stewish getting lazy.
Speaker 3 (01:30:56):

all about the horse. They do a great job over there.
(01:35:32):
We used to use that, Jackie, what we used to
use their feeds all? And how long did we use
their feeds? Mccaulleye as unless we've had horses. Now, let's
see what else we got them. I got it. A
couple of more commercials.
Speaker 3 (01:35:52):
Here to do mansript and sate.
Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
Yeah, and then the training center run and let me

of them that that are not ingraded.
Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
Wow, they must be running for a mere million?
Speaker 1 (01:36:24):
Uh two million?
Speaker 3 (01:36:27):
Good night nurse. If they throw the money around, I'll
tell you, I like, stand down there, stand around.

You just wanted me to say it again. You read
it right there, all.
Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
Right there, Oh, the potent embrace partnership.
Speaker 1 (01:37:55):
You wanted to say it again.
Speaker 3 (01:37:58):
We're getting into the fun part of.

what time we were gone? Yeah, I guess I'd better
do it if I can find it. There we go,
(01:39:00):
and I got something I want to read too. In
the midst of side the winners of two stakes last Saturday,
and then added a third on Labor Day, two of
them Grade one Tom and Joe bren Omble spendfift Farms
Undefeated See won the Great One Spent Away at Saratoga,
won by six and a half links I was on Saturday.
That same day, Citizen Bull won the Shery Belize States

at del Mar. This is the Goual Course won the
Great one Breeders Club Juvenile Stakes last year. He had
already earned over a million, five hundred and fifty six thousand.
Then on Labor Day, Ted Nuffi won the Grade one
Hopeful States at Saratoga, carrying the Spencer of Silks. He
won by eight and a half lengths. Like Tommy Joe,
he's undefeated. In the Mischief is the sub of eighteen

to ask about breeding incentives. The website is spensive farm

Speaker 3 (01:40:56):
I'll say a few words about my friends out at
fally Vans. You know, we've known that family forever. I
mean I knew Nicole Pa right way back in the
Pony Club days, and you knew her great grandfather.
Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:41:14):
They've been in business for O, my god, a hundred years,
I guess I don't know, somewhere around there. Anyway, during
that time, any of the greatest runners ever to step
on a racetrack that been entrusted to their care, and
that would include Justify. I saw a picture of Justify unloading.
(01:41:38):
I think it was at Churchill. I can't remember, but huh,
he was there. And always think, hey, if it's good
enough for Justify, it's good enough for your pony, you
know what I mean. You got anything that's better than Justify?
Your kidding yourself. So anyway, they've learned a lot obviously,
(01:42:00):
and vehicles and equipment are in tiptop shape. They have
a great what would you call a garage or whatever
they're where they take care of everything and park everything
at all always looks gorgeous. It's beautiful. And they used
to they used to service your rig. I don't know either.
(01:42:22):
It's ninety two five five, ninety four oh six. You
can call them and see because now the time because
here comes cold weather and that's when you have to
get your you know, tires and break.
Speaker 1 (01:42:34):
Got it a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:42:36):
So the other thing is they're really extremely proud of
their drivers at Sally Horse Fans. They're experienced drivers and
experienced horsemen. That's what you have to have. That's the
winning combination, and it's not necessity. So think about that
the next time you ship your horse crossing county or
(01:42:59):
the country. When you load into a Sally horse van,
you can depend on the fact the person behind the
wheel is one of the best in the business. They
wouldn't have it any other way. And that's why, for
more than more than half a century, more than almost
three quarters of a century, Sally Vans nine five five
(01:43:21):
nine four oh six nine five five ninety four oh six,
Dally horse Vans is a Staaten's way to the winter circle.
Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
Alright, well, I got something I want to read that
Joe Palmer wrote. Joe Palmer died at the age of forty,
but he's forty seven years old. Forty eight years old.
Speaker 3 (01:43:43):
I don't know how sad.
Speaker 1 (01:43:44):
Yeah, back about nineteen fifty now, this is called sam
Hildere's beard. If you wanted a set of horseshoes, pancs
are that Tiffany's wouldn't be the first place you tried.
But that was the votes which Pierre lower Lodge used
and it worked. I can't give you the exact date
(01:44:05):
of this, but lower Loidde's career on the turf extended
from eighteen seventy three to nineteen oh one. It was,
at any rate in the time when the aluminum would
take for granted now was a new wonder medal, extremely
expensive because no mass production of it had been managed.
It occurred to lower lodd that if a lighter model
(01:44:28):
metal could be substituted for the iron or steel shoes
in the news, a horse ought to run faster. So
he just dropped into Tiffany's and had him sit made
and the first one's ever the lower lot of horses
murdered everybody, but then they'd been doing that before. On
one early occasion, when lower Light offered to run parole
(01:44:50):
against ten Broke for twenty five thousand side at Saratoga,
he was offered to run a two year old at
six furlongs, a three to zero at a mile and
three quarters, a four year old at two and a
quarter mile, and a five year old of three miles
against Western horses of the same ages. It's all for means,
he remark that I'm willing to run in my stable
(01:45:13):
against the pick of the entire West. A man selling
aluminum shoes once offered me a set of figures which
may interest you. An aluminum saves about an ounce and
a half on each shoe six ounces all around tail.
A horse lifts his feet folve inches off the ground
with each stride at twenty five feet to a stride
(01:45:37):
man who walk through them in at twenty eight feet.
A horse takes about two hundred and ten strides in
a mile. If you put a pencil to work on this,
it comes out that an iron shod horse does eighty
foot eight foot pounds more work in a mile than
one side with aluminum. With a decrease in the price
(01:45:59):
of aluminum, Tiffany's went out of the horseshoe business, and
at the prices of Blacksmith's are changing for new shoes
charging for new shoes, maybe they should go back. The
lower allied base was ran Cocher's farm in New Jersey.
Later this passed to hear Harry Sinclair, for whom Sam
Hilleth trained zev and Gray Legg and Purchase and Madplay
(01:46:21):
and others. Setting was then a record for stable learnings
for a year. Hilbert had been a famous trainer before this,
so famous in fact, that when he started betting on
one of his own horses. The bookmakers often dive from
board of one down to three to five. A situation
(01:46:42):
like this course is intolerable. So Hildreth looked around for
a beard, a man with whom he had no obstensible
the connection to to do his betting farm. So he
found a man who came to his house at night
and got bedding instructions. Next day they'd be Hildruth horse running,
(01:47:03):
and there was Hildruth not reading a dime till the
bookmaker's stayed bowl and got whipped. This went on for
a year and a half before some anybody figured it out.
In his autobiography, The Spell of the Turf Hill laid
particular stress on the scrupulous honesty of his beard. Man
(01:47:24):
sat in cases where it would have been so easy
to chisel off one hundred here, a hundred there. I
guess the man was honest after his lights. He was
Frank James, brother of the famous outlaw, and not an
exure outlaw in his own rife. After James had surrendered
and been jailed and pardon he worked as a sheet
writer for bookmakers at many of the smaller tracts. This
(01:47:48):
is the next best thing to Robin trains and entails
less risk. Once he was working in a small Midwestern
tract when a hur can hit the place. The grandstand
wasn't too so anyway, and pieces of it were flying
about here and there, and branches of trees and general
debris were plumbing around, making the area highly unhealthy. James
(01:48:10):
happened to be walking through the interview when the trouble started,
and he threw himself into a sinkhole that was there
and watched timbers and things sail overhead. A few minutes later,
a groom tumbled himself down into the same hole with
the same idea. He took a look at his fellow
refugee and then started calling back up the top. Come
(01:48:33):
back here, you idiot, James Yellow Lame, you'll get your
brains knocked out. The room hesitated and then resumed his climb.
Mister Frankie said, if the Lord wants anybody on his racetack,
you're it not good. That was then, Uh. Joe Palmer
at his best writing about something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:48:55):
No fool and has some great stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:48:59):
Yeah. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:49:00):
I had friends in a small town in southeastern Kentucky
who were Howard's and the James Boys were Howard's mother
was a Howard. Once you're a Howard, you're a Howard.
Only you say hard, you're a hard. Anyway, anybody's saying
(01:49:21):
thing about James Boys being you know, crooks and outlaws
and stuff, they don't not. They did not. They were not.
They were Calvary for the South. You know. I thought
that was pretty precious.
Speaker 1 (01:49:37):
Our best friends are named Howard. We never asked them
if they were related.
Speaker 3 (01:49:41):
But I don't know. They're Howard's everywhere now, Oh, I
we we are. Our friends are Madden, Crystal, Kansas Howard's.
Speaker 1 (01:49:51):
I don't know a lot of them went to I
think they rubbed some banks out there or trains, is
that right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:49:59):
Every time I drive past that house out there, old
Frankfort Pike and the road between the sales in Midway, Yeah,
there's that sign and they some Howards lived out there.
It's interesting, interesting history.
Speaker 1 (01:50:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:50:17):
So what time is it? Do we have a few minutes?
A minute or two?
Speaker 1 (01:50:22):
Well, we got to do something. Abserve Training Center. Yeah,
it's a.
Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
Great place to train, it's the best.
Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
It's well, yeah, of course we were out there. Yeah,
they were so good leaving trains and winters Man.
Speaker 3 (01:50:37):
Just think of what somebody knew what they were doing. Yeah,
now they were always super nice, super helpful, you name it. It's
even laid out well.
Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
Oh yeah, you know the great location too, it's right there,
closet of the interstate and yeah, as you going to the
little well, if you're going to up the Cincinnati, yeah, anywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
Yeah, it's the easiest actually, I guess as far as
race tracks around here, it's the best centrally located as
you can get.
Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
And the track itself surface has always been superb. We've
got great track people. After the gentleman who's taken care
of Keenland's tracks took care of it.
Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
Yeah, yeah, hey, they don't know their business. Yeah, they're
always quick to fix things too. We never had any
trouble with that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:39):
No, it's you can take a year then out there
unbroken earline startermen start to finish, Yeah you can. You know,
first time I've ever had any attack on them until
it's coming out of a starting gate, because they've got
everything you need there. They've got that that five inch
of a mile track, which is uh excellent track to
(01:52:02):
get one started on. This it's it's it's what we
call the lower track out there, and you take the
babies down there until they're ready to be surrounded by
horses that are breezing and everything, and you move them
up to them out track up above. And of course
(01:52:24):
they've got everything you need there, you know, not only
that you can graze them out there. It's it's a
quiet atmosphere. Yeah, and it's it's the rates of reasonable,
always reasonable. It's hard to find stalls there. The best
thing you do if you just got too a couple
of horses, you know, or something like that, uh, is
(01:52:47):
to call and find out if it's somebody. You can
find somebody that wants to sub lease some stalls and
just go to Borne to On and ask, you know,
because they have to play rent on an empty soul
the same as they do a full one. So they
and we used to sub lease stalls. That's where grove
(01:53:11):
at continues to be. Carter Thornton people like that. Yeah,
I love Carter something else, Yeah he was, so that
that's it's they got to start and gage the air course.
They've got an official clocker and a good one. They've
got a grass gallop back there. That's a it's a
(01:53:32):
it's a great place to gallop your horses, and it's
it's you know, it's the facility is just as good
as you as you can find, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
Yeah, that's great. Before we sign off, I want to
mention that Anne and Craig Boone have been friends forever
and in fact, Anne used to ride.
Speaker 1 (01:53:59):
For us very good too.
Speaker 3 (01:54:01):
Yeah, she would bring her little girl out there, put
the kidnap stall. Now, it was great. But we want
to send out our sincere condolences on the passing of
their son, Connor. I can't think of anything worse than
(01:54:22):
losing a child. Connor was young and just doing beautifully
and he liked to work on cars and he was
underneath the car when the jet malfunctioned or broke or something.
And anyway, we want to tell you we love you.
You're in our prayers and just just can't imagine anything
(01:54:47):
we're doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
So, yeah, that's too bad. But she could ride too, and.
Speaker 3 (01:54:53):
She could ride, she could do all kinds of stuff.
She's really a smart girl.
Speaker 1 (01:54:56):
So she got a business.
Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
Yeah, she's a massage therapist out on Richmond Road. And
you know, she knows what she's doing. She's done it forever. Yeah,
So anyway, I wanted to mention that.
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Okay, well, like I say, the training center here is
a wonderful place to train, and Jackie, we may be
doing the show here for a while. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:55:32):
Yeah we love the training center.
Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
Yeah, we love the training center. But things happen during
your lives sometimes and you have to adjust.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
Yeah, well we'll go back and forth.
Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
That'll be fine. Yeah, that's right. As old as I am.
I don't mind doing it from home.
Speaker 3 (01:55:53):
Yeah, well, we get to see a lot of people
we know and stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:55:57):
I think John liked because he was a closer drive
for him. I wish that James lives Scully lived closer
to us where he could get to us. He's terrific
on the air James's Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Yeah, he's so smart. He sits there and raddles that
stuff off. It's astonished.
Speaker 1 (01:56:19):
He's with bloodstock researchers.
Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
Yeah that's a great outfit.
Speaker 1 (01:56:23):
Oh they really are. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:56:25):
I couldn't do anything without them, I'll tell.
Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
You, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
I remember when all this computer stuff first started.
Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
Me too. I used to have to use look at
the things in the ration for him.
Speaker 3 (01:56:40):
Yeah, isn't that amazing?
Speaker 1 (01:56:42):
Back when the oration form was cheap. Thank god, Oh
my god.
Speaker 3 (01:56:47):
Yeah, what is it now?
Speaker 1 (01:56:50):
I'll stay to ask you. I remember when it was
a quarter Yeah, there you go, and you had more
than one track, and you.
Speaker 3 (01:56:58):
Used to have Patrick's out and racing forms.
Speaker 1 (01:57:02):
Yeah, and these charts, you know, they used to Racing
form would put a binder on him in a month
and they had them. That's they've got them at the
Keenan Library.
Speaker 3 (01:57:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:57:14):
Now that's the only place you can get them. And
that's in that's a format like the old fashioned ones.
This was bloodstock research.
Speaker 3 (01:57:23):
Yeah, isn't that great? Kept that because that's.
Speaker 1 (01:57:27):
I'm looking one right here right now, this thing, Yeah,
Jackie clip gold Cup got.
Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
More information crammed into that and you can imagine. Yeah,
that's that's a good thing.
Speaker 1 (01:57:40):
Yeah. How much time I have left down there? Everybody? Bo? Hello?
Speaker 3 (01:57:49):
Oh oh.
Speaker 1 (01:57:54):
Is it Bo? Catherin?
Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
It was Bo's walk.
Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
How much time do we have? When do we have
to play it out? We've got about the two.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
My answer maybe back at the train.
Speaker 1 (01:58:14):
Yeah, but well on the they just yet. I think
we got about two about two or three minutes, you
know they please what crankspun?
Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Dad?
Speaker 1 (01:58:28):
What was job?
Speaker 3 (01:58:30):
Yeah? That farm it.
Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
Was very good app got to you. Yeah, yeah, I'm
still going for it, even with higher stroke risks from
atrial Fiber
