The horse capital of the world. It's horsetails with ursul
ellis such come we'll talk about the horses, the feople,
and the history of the thoroughbred Industryway hold away, what's
the good I have? Like now live from Kentucky's Bluegrass region.
Here's parcel.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Here crug.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Okay, now, alrighty we couldn't hear it, but that's okay.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I'm missing Masked, one of my favorite horses. He had
had to put him down. People want you know, what
did it say? He was twenty seven years old. That's
that's old good enough there, you know, it was a
really nice horse. Uh I uh. Used to do a

(04:44):
lot of commercials on him, you know, but back when
he was still it stood. Yeah. He was a very
good sire. He wasn't a great sire, but he's a
very good sire. Yeah. And if Michael Bloone ever shows up,
I wanted to ask him about one. Uh he's shout
horse a green Mash one over a million dollars. And

(05:04):
if I'm not mistaken, green Mash was retired to friends.
That sounds to me he'd been all Yeah, they had
to put his leg back together. Yeah, and when they
were tired of him. He was when he got hurt. Yeah,
he was probably the best sprinter in the country. Yeah,

(05:27):
and you know he sided Let's see what else did
he sire? He sided Flotilla, who won the Breeders' Cup
Juvenile Phillips Turf over a million dollars, and he sided
Caravel one of the Breeders' Cup turf'sprint won thirteen stakes
from one point nine million. He decided misdirection Grade one

(05:51):
of Grade one Breeders Cup Turf Print twice one nine stakes,
sixth grade and over one point seven million. Lass Track
was a Great one winner ultimately Eagle of Grade one
winner Midship is a Grade one winner. Full masks A
Group one went over in France, Sailors Valentine one of
Great one steaks right out here at Kenan. The defense

(06:14):
won Great Group one Steaks in Hong Kong. And then
if Michael Blower ever gets there, want to ask him
about that green mask. But I'm pretty sure he was
retired over to old friends. Yeah. I used to do
their advertising. Judmont, Judmont, Yeah, I don't know anybody out
there now, but Arrogate died and then they retired missing

(06:43):
mass uh four years ago. I think something like that.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
So that we have a wine de cannon and four
wine glasses that say Judmont or some.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
First time start drink used to used to go to
their parties at King and you'd get something really nice
like that. It was a good party. Yeah. Yeah, I
don't know anybody out there now. Last time, you know,
when they when Arrogate died and they retired Missing Mass,

(07:23):
they picked up a couple of other stud horses and
a couple of years later like that. Yeah, and they, uh,
I guess they fired me because they called up out
there and they had an advertising manager that they hired,
so I was out. Yeah, well that's all right. I

(07:47):
don't know anybody after it now, I don't know. I
don't even know what you've got it stood after. Yeah,
that's what happened. Well I hate that, that's just it
was such a nice source. Yeah. Yeah, oh he was
one of my favorites. And anyway, I think a look
at that book. Okay.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Keenland Library Lecture Series. This is Wednesday, December tenth. It's
always at six thirty to eight thirty at the Keenland Library.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
This book by James C. Nicholson in conversation with historian
Catherine C. Mooney, Racing's Returned from the Brink, The Incredible
Comeback of Old Rosebud and American horse racing. This is
at the King Library. It's at the turn of the

(08:45):
twentieth century.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Racing was doing so well. A wave of anti gambling legislation, yeah,
set to destroy the industry until one extraordinary Brad guilding
the Miracle Horse helped steal it away from extinction.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Oh, that's funny. I didn't know.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
He was named for a brand of Bourburton produced by
his owner's family, Old Old rose Bud.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
How about that they had clothes racing down in New York.
That was about nineteen eleven, nineteen twelve, right in there. Yeah,
and then they came up on World War One. I
guess that was kind of a mess. I don't know. Well,
this was this was part of that. Yeah. Yeah, because
this goes back to nineteen thirteen. They had a series

(09:42):
of three things that happened. Old rose Blood was a
here comes my Michael. Old rose Blood was a favorite,
a poud favorite and everything. Yeah. And he wanted to
nineteen fourteen, a year before Donald Rayel had wanted and

(10:06):
he was a long shot ninety to one. Yeah, and uh,
and then regret one at nineteen fifteen. And those things
really put the race on the Man Well Old rose
Bud won at nineteen fourteen by eight links. How about that.
He was a local favorite. Yeah yeah. A jockey named

(10:28):
McCabe won him, and I knew his great grandchildren. Oh
that's funny. I went to school with him, Russell McCabe
and I forget the other one's name. Live over on
Old Frankfort, Old Paris Pike, right up in there. Oh yeah,
that's where they live. I wanted to ask you something, Michael.

(10:51):
I'm glad you showed up.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
We were talking about missing masts. Yeah, it's over there
to your right here.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Oh yeah, didn't you have a horse then? Green Mask
still do? It's still a long tail, still alive. Oh
my god, he's got that leg. And you know his
story right He put Brad Cox on the map for
at the Green Mask. He's one of my favorites, one
of the favorites of the visitors, too good. But he's

(11:22):
getting ready for the Breeders Cup several years ago and
he broke his leg. Yeah. He was the best brind
in the country at the time that he broke his leg. Yeah,
he's still the best sprinder on the farm. I mean,
you know, what the hell you had him in that
paddock by himself. Yeah, he does. He goes in at
night and then he comes out during the day and

(11:43):
he's right next door to Big Brown. Now, oh he's
between Big Brown and Birdstone. Wow, that's a nice guy.
I asked him if I could move in, and he said, no,
this is you don't have enough money to have a
spot here. Yeah, thrown for the upper class. All right,

(12:03):
he's amazing, you know he you know when we got him,
he'd just gotten over. He was in the middle of
getting over his operation. His owner was such a great
person that he decided that he was going to have
even though he was a galloon. And he broke his
leg and that's not usually a good prescription for these
these geldings. And he but he loved this force so

(12:24):
much that he decided to pay doctor Richardson a considerable
amount of money to reap to fix his leg. Really. Yeah,
So doctor Richardson is the same doctor that did all
the operating on Barbara. Oh yeah, so he operates on
him and he had he installed twenty three pins in

(12:47):
a metal plate. Oh yeah, exactly. We have copies of
the X rays in the office house. And they put
him put his leg completely back together, and then they
had to go back in and take out all the metal.
And doctor Richardson told me that if Barbara had the
same patience and the same personality as Green Mask, he'd

(13:11):
still be alive. In Sam, you can do it. Your
Green Mask knew what was going on, and you know, Okay,
this is what I gotta do, this is what I
gotta do. And now he bosses, He bosses me around,
He runs with the visitors, he runs with the visitors.
He does you know, hedge off the pass if you
got the missus pastors tilted head trick. Let's see when

(13:33):
Morocca came with the Sunday morning show, the Jamee poly
C'd be a Sunday Morning show to do a piece
on old friends a few years ago. He's the only
person that Green Mask ever bick. I guess he didn't
like one of his questions or something. I don't know.
Mo Rocca, the reporter on Oh Okay Show. Yeah, but

(13:56):
he's a he's a really cool horse, and he's really
really sack and he's to buy him fill and yeah,
and he still runs so good Panica. Yeah, he likes
to run around. He's like he doesn't want to have
any he doesn't want to have any roommates. But you know,
you know Birdstone next door. You know, Birdstone was always
a nervous wreck. I'll give me a hat, Jackie. Oh okay,

(14:22):
oh yeah. The sunshine is coming in and it's landing
right on earth. So how great is the spotlight is
here reflecting? Oh my bowl? But if I didn't have
my cap on, it could be he could be we
could be in a competition. Uh so Birdstone's next door.
So Burstone was always a little neurotic, and we know,

(14:45):
we could quite figure out why. He just never relaxed.
He'd run the fence and he'd sweat, and he'd rear
up and he'd squeal, and he'd just do odd things
and then he'd be good for about another half an hour,
and then he goes through the same cycle again. So
doctor Waldride said, one day, you know, I'll tell you.
He says, let's try this. We've always wanted to try this,

(15:06):
and doctor Byers wanted to try it to back in
the day. Is to put a gelding in with a
stallion and see what happens, because it can't be any worse.
And he's going to kill himself, just you know, he's
gonna have a psychotic breakdown or whatever he would call it.
And so we put this big old gelding named Photon
in there with a big, big chorus, and about thirty

(15:29):
seconds later everything stopped. And he's been good ever since.
He's gained weight. Great. Yes, he's nicer to people. I mean,
it was an unbelievable transformation and it was instantaneous. Wow,
they just want to come there. Yeah, like you Rsel,
thank you, Jackie. Do you think steady? Yeah, I just

(15:51):
think he's a little psychotic when you're not around well
something something.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
So anything new going on there and always always John
will tell you some of the details next week. He
has all the details. I don't know much, but it's
things are going really, really well. The visitors are coming good,
the regular tours and and the end of this month. Okay,

(16:18):
but if anybody wants a tour, it's ten dollars in
the credit voucher and I'll show them around. Oh, there
you go, a credit voucher for the simulcast. Oh that's fun.
Ten dollars a credit voucher.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
I wonder do you have like people come into town
for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah. Did they get many tourists from that? Yeah? Yeah,
and then around you know, a lot on the holidays,
people come in and you know, some of them are
really excited about seeing the worst, and others just can't
wait to get out of their house because they had
enough family. I'd say, this just too distinct groups. Oh
my god, I don't want to watch foot. Well, let's

(17:00):
go out and watch the grass grow with old friends. Yes. True.
We were talking yesterday about what time when you were
growing up did you all have Thanksgiving dinner? And we
all The only way I remembered it was it was
about one o'clock because then all my great uncle pole
around that TV and watched the football. Yeah we had

(17:22):
back then there were as many football games out of course,
and you know football games was started at one o'clock. Yeah,
we always program eleven o'clock. Yeah, programs. Yeah, yeah, I
just remember that. You know all they went in black
and white, in black and my episode was and't have fun. Yeah.
So we used to have a football game and alumni

(17:42):
football game at my high school, is that right? Yeah?
And we'd played football that day school for boy, it
was it could have been we played tackle football. With
no equipment. Oh you're kidding. Told was just before huh,

(18:06):
before you ate or after? Oh my god, that's funny.
Well I played I played football with this high school
with the clip, but it still got hurt. Yeah, we
got guys hurt too. Guy broke one guy broke his
collar ball, and one guy got a concussion. It was stupid.
I mean, you know I'm not. But again, you got

(18:29):
out of the house. Yeah, all right, I'm eating, I'm leaving. Yeah,
But anyway, there's lots to be thankful for. These visitors
have been just amazing lately. I mean, the people there
are so nice. I mean it's like a magnet for
really nice people. And like a couple of weeks ago,
on a really rainy day, who calls me up, But

(18:49):
Doug O'Neal calls me up. Yeah, a great trainer from California,
and he goes and he trained, I'll have another, and
Lava Man, Yeah, that's wonderful, And Lava Man escorted, I'll
have another to the starting gate when he won the derby.
Oh huh. Lava Man was the track pony. After he

(19:10):
retired his career, it's kind of like you were, so
he never quits he just keeps going, keep going. I
just keeping I got another. I'll do something else there.
I'm afraid to stop. I think he is still. So
Doug came and he was just thrilled to see these
two horses. He just and he couldn't believe it. They're

(19:31):
in the big padd eggs there and they're looking over
the fence at each other, and it was so great.
And then Mario Gutierrez, who rode I'll have another two
his Derby Victory, he came with his whole family to visit.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
Oh god.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
So it's really great when people call up and say
can I come over? And then Michael Ewing, who had
both gave us Bold and Bossy, she came to visit
with some friends of her. So have the celebrity guests
who want to see one or two particular horses, and
then we just have the people. It's thrilled to go
out there and see whatever horse they want to see
and treat them and missus pastures.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
That is so fun because you know they ride these horses,
they own these horses and everything every day with these
horses for years.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
And then they're gone. And it used to be you
didn't know anything about it you didn't want to know.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
You don't make money anymore. You're in trouble. Yeah, that
was nice of you to show crystals. Howard's mother around
over there, Oh, that was nice. She's nice, She's super nice.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
You know, she has a collection what do you call us,
big Western belts with a big thing on the front
their trophies.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yeah, from like the rodeo and stuff. Yeah, she uh
fair racist really yeah, and that's really something. Yeah, she
goes you know, boom.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
I've seen videos of her, you know, crystals brought over.
That's amazing, and that she had a wonderful time. I'm
gonna come out. She loves silver charms, of course. Yeah,
so I'm gonna come out and buy a a coffee
cup with you.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Got and he left with silver charm on it. Yeah,
I'm sure I got a couple in the house. I'll
just wash them. I've got a one of my treasured
possessions is a is a is a silver charm mug
that mister Lewis made with the triple crown on it,
assuming that he was gonna win the Belmont. And I

(21:37):
still have a triple crown Champion. I got a triple
Crown Champion and he lost the horse that beat him. Yeah,
that was really too bad. He was tough though. I'll
tell you what, he didn't leave anything on the table.
That he didn't leave anything on the table, and I
mean he was done when they when you know, he's

(21:58):
showing signs of being a little off, and Tony was
concerned about him, so we sent him over to the
Ruden Riddle and they just said, you know, he's got
you know, he's got this, he's got that, he's got.
He just went through his long list of everything that
he had, and he's you know, one of the things
doctor Byers told me was that, you know, these stallions

(22:18):
they don't show that they're vulnerable, and they have to
pretend even if they're in agony that everything's okay because
in the herd they lose their power position. So they
still do that. And he was really like that. I
mean he was he was eating you know, he's you know,
he's kind of just unbelievable. Yeah, it's uh, but it's interesting.

(22:44):
He was very smart. She said when she.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Went over to see him, he came right over and
they said, usually he didn't do that reminded me of
we've had a couple as they get.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
They know in there. Oh yeah, we had a teaser
that was just a snotty son of a gun, you know,
one of the.

Speaker 7 (23:11):
I'm gonna tease you right, must have been meets thousand times.
One day he was well, I don't blame him, pat
cup of the barn. He had a stall in the barn,
and he fussed and fussed and carried on and kicked
the gate with you know, front legs and come over here,

(23:31):
come on, and he knew, we knew something was wrong.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
He was afraid. He knew he was afraid. I think
they get afraid that the herd is gonna leave them.
And he wanted in the barn. He wanted in the barn, but.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
We couldn't put him in install dye in a stall.
What do you do tear a wall out?

Speaker 2 (23:50):
You know, I mean, that's so hard.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
And we gave him. We gave him something banna mean
or I can't you know, just whatever. We had stayed
down till pretty late, you know, and finally we came
on in and next morning he was laying there. He
knew they they're just afraid.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
That I had him for I don't know how many
years I released him, I think for five hundred dollars
for the season or something like that. Lee. I had
him leased, and the guy never picked him up after
the season was over. I just want help, you know.
I called him and told him. He says, I'm through

(24:31):
with him now, okay, we'll get him. He never did
come and get him. And then the following January he
called up and says, well, it's time to come up
with another five hundred dollars for the season. I said, fine,
I said, I got about an eight hundred dollars board
bill here for year. Will change. And the last the

(24:56):
last time heard heard him. I'm sure, but you know
he fight at me, bite the nurse him, but not Betsy.
Betsy could go in with a.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Rope shank and turn him out and go get him
and bring him in. He never he never did that
kind of thing. He knew who he could fight.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
We called him at East. Well that's because you were
trying to tell him what to do and she just
wanted to pat him. Yeah, let him around. Yeah, I've
got a picture of her bringing him in from that
paddock has hair. Oh are you talking about Tubby eight? Oh? Yeah,
well Tubby was another one yeah, I know. She just

(25:35):
that's she's cute. That's Freddy the cat.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
I like that cat.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, I do too. She's she needs the personal door man. However,
she goes over to the door and there she goes.
Right now, she's knocking on the fen and this is free.
She talked to you a time, he goes, the sons
in my eyes? Where's my hat? We got her. She
must be fifteen years old. How old they usually Diane

(26:02):
up there? Yeah, that's yeah Dan. He disappeared for about
five years really, yeah, and then all of a sudden
she showed up on our front out here on the patio. Yeah,
and she stayed with us ever since. She gets in
that laughs and stuff. Now she's the last of the
four that we rescued. That we just go to the town. Yeah,

(26:24):
there were barncats. She was supposed to be a barn cat.
Is now here she is. She's got a little box
in there far over there. Mostly goes outside. She's not
interested in being a barncat. She wants to she wants
to jail. Yeah. Yeah, I went up at four o'clocks
more and I could have cut her down through. That

(26:48):
was a little late for you. Wasn't it four o'clock
right in the morning. Yeah, that's that's her. We early.
I usually get up at five. Oh, there you go.
So you got a big Thanksgiving? This would be good,
I hope. So I'm making my list. I'm but I'm

(27:09):
Matt in Crystal. Now they hurting the boys.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
Yeah, they're coming great. They go back to Kansas for Christmas,
but they spend Thanksgiving with us, which is nicey nice.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
They're over over Sunday every Sunday. We're pretty much fresh
out of family, is it? And yes they could they
bring dinner? They won't let us. Yeah, dinner really well.
And then what do they do on Thursday?

Speaker 3 (27:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Matt is going to smoke a turkey that's delicious. Yeah,
we're gonna you Remember when you first got out to
where you are, Matt used to bring you truckloads of
hay y y Yeah I didn't vague. Remember that. This
is an amazing thing. So think of how far we've come.

(28:07):
Every every inch of our hay barns is stilled. Yes,
and John had this thing called the hay Raiser thing. Yeah,
you know how much money we raised to buy Hey,
I read it, but I forgot fifty three thousand dollars. Wonderful.
That's fun. It's unbelievable, it's unbelieve it's so great. It's really,

(28:30):
really so great. We figured out how much we used
to spend on Hey, I think it was four hundred dollars.
So we gave him a check for four hundred dollars
and then both of them die. Yeah, yeah, I know
who you got.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
I wanted to ask about you've got Dean Martini.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Oh yeah, it's really cool too, see yeah, because you know,
Deane was the cool king of cool. Yeah, so I
told I, you know, name dropping him, but I wrote
the Angie Dickinson told her that we had Dean Martini.
Now there's a horse ride named Sinatra that needs a home.
So no Sinatra, Yeah you're gonna he called us Sammy Davis.

(29:20):
There is a David. Oh yeah, he had a Sinatra
had a son that was in the horse he did.
Oh yeah, oh really yeah. He didn't make it saying
they had horses around here? Is that right? I forget
who you had him with, but it's been him twelve

(29:40):
years ago. I just love that old, that era of
So I'll tell you, did I ever tell you my
Frank Sinatra story. I hope, okay, now that we're we
don't have any racist big racists talk about it. So
Frank Sinatra's coming on tour and and I was working

(30:00):
at the Globe. My editors says, do you want to
Frank Sinatras here? But he's not doing any interviews, And
so the guys the music critic really didn't want to
go talk to anybody. If he wasn't gonna give the
hell with that, I don't care, And he said, but
Chivas Regal is paying, has paid Angie Dickinson to come
around and do interviews about that. Do you want to

(30:22):
go interview? Of course? So I get my pad and
my pencil and I get in the car and I
drive down to the hotel and there's a hotel in
the bar and everything, and of course she was married
to Bert Bacharach. As soon as she walks into the bar,
the piano player starts playing a Bert Bert backrack Medalie,
he's thrilled, and we sit around, we start talking and

(30:44):
at the end of the interview at a really nice time,
kind of hit it off because we knew some of
the same old people you know that were you know,
Richard Brooks and some of those old directors and actors
and stuff. So we're exchanging stories. I didn't she didn't
probably get it worded in edgeways, but nevertheless, so at
the end of she she's something too. She should have

(31:06):
done comedy. She's one of the funniest people I've ever met.
So she goes at the end of the interview, she goes, well,
have you ever seen Frank? I said no. She goes, well,
here she goes, I've seen a bunch of times. You
get here's here's the tickets, get your wife, go and
then but afterwards you have to come back and have
another drink. I said, okay, fine, so we go, and

(31:26):
Diane I go, and of course there's seats one in
one A, right next to the red carpet, and Frank's
up on the stage. And this is at the end
of his touring days, and he was having a He
got off to a little bit of a rocky start,
but by the time he hit his third or four song,
he was moving and he was doing great. And about
his sixth song was the Nightingale sang in Berkley Square,

(31:52):
and he looks down to sing it to Angie and
he sees Diane and me there and he did such
a double take, one of those two people going down there.
I'm trying to sing this song. Oh, it's pretty funny.
That's good. Of course. Then Andrew became a big friend
of old friends, and she came and stayed with us,
and she lets the little s charm. She's still with us. Yeah,

(32:13):
she's ninety. I want to say ninety four. Wow, mad,
I think Now.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
I lived in northern Kentucky and Newport BELvue, that home
God's country, and a lot of gambling and drinking going
on there.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
So of course she's the forsaken. That what the forsaken?
You let the forsaken out? Dean and Frank when I
was throw young, were up at Beverly Hills. Yeah. For God,
I didn't get to go, of course, but it was

(32:48):
it was a big deal. Yeah. They were great. Yeah.
I mean I still I subscribed to Serious Exam Radio
so I can listen to seriously Snatra, which is number
seventy's it's all Sinatra and like like minded songs and
uh and and Steve Bicks Radio show, which is really
good every day for three hours of those horse racing

(33:10):
so and he's on two oh seven. So that's why
I subscribed to Sirious and drive around in the car
and listen. Yeah, gotta listen to fright. That was great.
I've got to catch up. All right, I'm gonna go.
You have told us anything about anything. There's nothing in
here but Johanna says. The Grade two steaks winner of
a million, two hundred and ninety eight thousand by Nikis

(33:31):
out of Kukaki, a steak space for multiple stakes, produced
a boy. Congrats. Congrats are full brother to the very
successful South Flatter. Flatter stood his entire career at Claven Farm.
Johanna's one of the maiden special by nine Links is
the two year old at cent and they didn't go
in six fa longs and went to eight and two,
then went on to win eight steaks sixth graded and

(33:52):
rent them mile and one thirty three to take the
Grade one shoe make them out. We're in second and
the Grade one Breeders Cup mile being a listener length.
So he competed at the highest level, lived up to
his pedigree and that took some running. He's by Niquist,
one of the Kentucky Derby breeders Cup juvenal seven Grade
one winners, currently ranked tenth on the North American Solis

(34:14):
were thirteen twenty twenty five stakes, when it was ten
of them graded four, Grade one niquist by the late
Great Uncle Moe stands for one hundred and seventy five thousand.
Johannes enters. Oh Andrews stud for ten thousand dollars live fold.
But here's something you consider. If you breed two marriage

(34:35):
to him at ten thousand dollars east his first two
seasons stead they produced live folds each year. Pay the
fees due when you when you're old, and you own
a lifetime breeding right in the horse. So why not
just called Jacob West in eighty five nine nine eighty
seven two three three oh. He said those things were

(34:55):
going pretty fast, so you better call him. And Johannahs
is ready for your inspection, as is the new rival
mind Frame, a Grade one winner of over two million
dollars by constitution, who like Joehannas, are going to stand
his first season it stood next year. This fee is
fifty thousand for a life hold. Take a good look
at the website, which is Cleveandfarm dot com. Well, a

(35:21):
couple didn't be people in the horse business up here
in Bourbon County where we are right now. Clayward Agency
in Indian Creek during the horse business, you ought to
know them boat. They're both extremely well known well. The
clay Warded Agency was founded back in nineteen thirty one

(35:41):
and they've been we've been very successful, even though they
started that right during the middle of the depression. They
were successful because they gave great service and they have
a third knowledge of the horse business. And those qualities
are still carried on to day. And so whatever your
insurance is, if it detains the the third bed, best
thing you do is call my friend Zach Parish or

(36:04):
my friend Bruce A. Thinks. And the number over there
is nine Age seven, eighteen sixty one. The offices are
eleven on two Main Street in Paris. And also, of course,
the Indian Creek Farm is one of the most successful
farms here in central Kentucky and it's closely related with
the clave Ward Agency. Leave rays and boarded and sold

(36:27):
one of the world's finest third bridges right there at
the Indian Creek Farm. They do a great job of
prepping horses for sale. Oh, they got to take you
around borders. So anyway, the thing to do to get
in touch with them, and once again at Shack Perris
just school to their website which is Indian creekky dot com.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and urso ellis.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Are you going to the to the chapel chapel? Yes, yeah, Hey,
I want you to know.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
You got the University of Louisville jacking on since College
of Business.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Yeah, they give you the business. Huh. Well I went
and gave a talk and as a and then yeah,
I went and gave a talk and and they gave
me this. It's very comfortable and it's warm, and it's
got a little fleece in it. But on the daylight

(37:30):
today when it's not very cold and ices, the perfect thing.
Been a guy that worked for us is unfortunately passed
away that everybody loved named j R. Yea. And he
always dressed in Louisville stuff. I mean every single I mean,
if it wasn't red, he was not wearing it. Is
a god. I'd see him at the Brown Barrel occasionally

(37:52):
in there Terry b all Red all Red. So he
passed away, unfortunately and went to the wake and he's
laid out in an open casket and it's all dressed
up in all the Louisville stuff. Oh, i'd be a
frame words way I was going, I don't think. I

(38:13):
don't think the Good Lord would hold it again again. No, no, no, okay,
you know he might hold it against him just because
he was a football fan, not because there you go Cardinals. Okay,
you've got a brace for ursul. Oh yeah, well we'll
find one here. We've got to find find we got
I got one here kind of at Woodvine. It's just

(38:35):
it's a it's a Canadian. It's for Canadian breads. But
it's one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a little restricted
steak for two year old Phillies. And I think there's
a horse here named Sipping History. She's a two year old,
not a horse. Two year old Philly Who's who's sitting
on a big race. She's had already had six starts

(38:57):
and she's finished in the money five on it six times.
She's ten to one on the morning line. She's number
five in the tenth race, it would buy, and she's
ten to one on the morning line. And I think
I think she'll she doesn't win. She'll be part of it,
and I think she'll run pretty well, so we'll keep
our fingers scraashed. She's dropping. She lost last time, she
finished third at seven prolongs, but now she's dropping back

(39:21):
in similar company to go six prolongs and that was
the distance of her maiden victory. So I think she's
got a shot. Sipping History number five the tenth race.
It would buy the Shady Well Steaks Shady Whales Stakes. Yeah,
that's an old stakes up there. Yeah, I think I've
got that in here somewhere, and she obviously loves the synthetics.

(39:44):
She's four for five in the money on the synthetic. Yeah.
Here it is Shady Whales takes. What's her name? Her
name is Sipping History. She's number five, number five on
the next page. There we go, Forester. I'm attracted at
our horse to Jamie Beg who's the trainer. His father

(40:07):
was a He was a huge supporter of old friends.
Oh really, yeah, we got we got Victor Cooley from
him and Ben Burgh. And he used to come no
matter what the weather was like, he come and get
his horse and see his horses, and and he's very
generous in donations and he just loved those horses and

(40:28):
and and he loves old friends. So and that's his son.
I remember his son first came to the farm. He's
like eight years old. I was traded for. Yeah, why kitty,
So that's your own. Say, well, I'm going I'll let
her up. Come on, you can come with me. Want
to come home with me? We only have eight cats?

(40:49):
We need nine or can maybe fifteen. I don't know
what point does it do they come in and say,
you know you're under arrest. You know cats, but you
are the old cat lady. Yeah, I'm the assistant to Diane. Okay,
there we go. She's the crazy cat lady. I'm the

(41:14):
moderately moderately crazy. We never had cats when I grew
up because mother didn't care for him.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
But I love him.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
I just love him. I have a little orange cats
my favorite now, and he's just fabulous. Really. Yeah, I
don't I don't sometimes I don't know what they're telling me.
This is the only one we've ever had in the house. Yeah,
but you know, mooney and a dog aad and yeah,
and that was the murder. That was terrible. Yeah, that's

(41:44):
the hard part. But you know I was thinking about
this in terms of touch gold the other day. Now
you look on the paddock and he's not there anymore.
It's pretty sad and all that, but you know, it
makes you reawakens your sense that you know nothing's here forever,
so you better joy what you've got. Well, you've got horse,

(42:04):
and so I think I'm a little bit more. I
think I'm a little bit more considerate of the horses
when we lose somebody, Yeah, because really start to appreciating
even more than you already do. They know way more
than you think. Oh yeah, it's just summ real. One
of there is we get along is say no, they're
all smarter than me. It makes me happy. All right, Well,

(42:27):
John o'fill you in on all the details. But this
week's been fabulous for old friends. Good okay, well good
luck at the chapel. Thank you man, thanks for coming back.
Oh I didn't oh, I didn't tell you this. You're
going to get a kick out of this. I forgot
to brag. What I forgot to brag? Oh brag? So
the way the things that for Cleburn and then I

(42:50):
dropped them over there a good shop. Oh nice, Yeah,
Oh I'll bet yeah, I'll bet that's really really nice.
Thank them, Thank you, Thank everybody. There's a guy that's
gone around the country named Kenny. He's a photographer and
he's doing a fundraiser for the PDJS and he's got

(43:13):
a series of cards. He made a whole series of cards.
One hundred and twenty five, Yeah, one hundred and twenty
five cards in his cards. He's a lot of baseball
cards and he's got and he gets everybody to sign him.
So for some reason they must have needed a round
number or anything, they included me in this thing. So

(43:37):
Susie Pico and her husband John over to the red
I said, she goes, you have to sign all these cards.
So I'm thrilled. You know, this is so great. I've
always wanted this, you know. So I go, I go,
but I'm going to be over at the Red Miles,
so you can, you know, bring them over and I'll

(43:57):
do it, so I said, So she brings them because
that a red Mile, and you know, Johnny Olden's her husband,
and Johnny's always there and he's a great guy. So
so I'm signing with cards at the little table there
and this guy comes over. One of my friends comes
over there, just who do you think you are? Pete Rose.

(44:19):
The great thing is they're going to sell these sets
of cards for like over a thousand dollars, And yeah,
everybody is this guy went around here, you know, he
got the last things. Wayne Lucas ever signed with these
cards probably killed them. Yeah, but uh, what do you mean?

(44:40):
He sits there for a hundred cards and I'm waiting
to see who's gonna win the third. You know, it's
a little distracted, but I thought that was really nice.
It was as good indication that they think about aftercare.
Now it's not just you know, I'm telling you you
don't get baseball cards for those horses, You're missing a
big deal. I think the real reasion what the real reason,
because the picture that there is of silver charming to me,

(45:02):
and I think they just wanted to sneak silver Charman
of card what yeah, on pictures of what they pick.
They used the picture on the cart as a picture
of silver charming me. And I think the only reason
I got included was because they wanted that picture of
silver charment. I happened to be in it. Oh okay,
all right, well he's doing good. I'm good. I'm good.

(45:25):
Glad to hear it. I'll be out okay, good, all right,
can't wait to see you, see you soon. Have everybody right,
and thanks for coming by. I gotta share you. I'm
so far behind here and then we'll catch up. But
Sieri leone, when his first started as a two year
old in New York and then competed in thirteenth straight stakes,
all graded nine Grade one, was never out of the money.

(45:48):
He won the Great One Bringers Cup Class A Classic
as a three year old. He retired with earnings of
eight million, one hundred and ninety six thousand, two hundred dollars.
It was a horse to beat every time he walked
into the start and gave it. He always gave his best,
gaining the respect of the racing world. A lot was
expected of him. He sold for two million, three hundred
thousand dollars as a yearing when he lived up to expectations.

(46:11):
His pedigree impeccable. He's by champion gun runner who said
fees two hundred and fifty thousand. His damn is heavenly loved,
one of the grade one outs about his states of
Keenan and a daughter of Malibu Moon. His second damn
won two states of Keenan in addition to Heavenly Loved
To produced Grade two stations winner Forever Darling Forever Dialing.

(46:32):
The damn of Forever Young winner of this year is
Breeders' Cup Classic. His third damn also won Grade one stakes.
There's black type as far as I can see. I
don't think I've ever written about Sierra the Owe's equal
in confirmation, pedigree or racing class. Cier Leon has it all.
He is the standards first season stud next year at
after study, a form of a great reputation for the

(46:55):
relevant cars already for there are the likes of justifying money,
the practical joke, the most practical joke, most successful son
of in the mischief does the law. Many of the
young stays with great potential just called the farm in
eight five nine, eight seven, three seventy eighty eight. These
started five thousand dollars lafful and we'll find you the

(47:15):
right stay and at the right price for your mayor.
And see the website Goolmore dot com. Okay, say a
few words here about Quillen. I saw what we saw
Ralph the other day, didn't we?

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Yeah, we lils, Yeah, he's real proud of that store.
They've got it all decorated for Christmas and everything. People
stopped by and I told him it.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
Really looked super He he came in lils and the
head of him, yeah, he had a bad coal he did.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
It's right, yeah, yeah, but Quillen not that anybody around
here wouldn't know who that was. Quality service, leather good
Since nineteen eighty two, it's the nation's the largest custom
halter shop, twenty thousand halters.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
A year chipped worldwide quiling to U l l N dot.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
Comt Terrace nine eight seven oh two one five and
it's just it's amazing how much trouble they go to
to get it perfect. They have different color brown leathers,
they have black too, and you can get them stitched,

(48:25):
are not stitched, and the belts are gorgeous. They are
just stunning. And all the the metal on these things
is top class. It's uh, I don't know, some kind
of brass color.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
I don't know about that kind of stuff, but it's
just beautiful.

Speaker 4 (48:43):
And they can put creases in leather that looks really nice.
I don't know how they do that, but when you
get it, they are absolutely gorgeous. All the belts are
available at medium brown, bourbon brown, which is dark, or black.
They're just just stunning stuff. And when you go it's

(49:06):
downtown Paris driving he said they were mobs. They had
that big horse show at the horse park and all
those people. Whenever they have anything, people come in from
out of town. They just flock the clueings because you know,
you just can't.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
There's nowhere else. I mean, if you live in Cincinnati,
where you're going to go for tack, uh, you're not.
And it's getting close to Christmas. They've got a lot
of Christmas kind of oh I don't know, key chains
and all that. Everything they make is our English finished
bridle beult leather, even in the key tags. So get online.

(49:51):
It's quoting to U L l N dot com in
Paris ninety seven oh two one five.

Speaker 6 (50:02):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul Ellis.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
We're talking about that the book Racing's Returned from the Brink,
that the Keenan Labrary is given that lecture series with it.
James C. Nicholson and Catherine Mooney put that out and
it's Racing's Returned from the Brink, the incredible comeback of
Old Rosebud and American horse racing. Old Rosebud was he

(50:30):
won to Kentucky Derby. He followed, Let's see, I've got
it down there somewhere. I should know right off the
top of my head. But I'm being ninety six years
old and ninety four years old, I've forgotten.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
Was there a gap from the eighteen hundreds ever up until.

Speaker 2 (51:00):
They had cancer racing in New York up here and
the horses came up. Of course, Regret was the big one. Yeah,
it was after Rosebud. Yeah, but you know she I've

(51:20):
got her pedigree around here somewhere. Yeah, she she never
did you know? She was by broomstick out of a
Hamburg mayor. But she never produced anything? Is that right? No,
she did. She didn't produce any steaks winners. She produced
four winners. But she did produce three daughters that had

(51:41):
steaks winners. Isn't that odd? Yeah? Makes you wonder. One
of them was named Rufel by Saint Germans and she
was just a winner. Ruffle was. But she was the
dam of a really nice horse named First Fiddle, raised
back in the forties. That's a famous name, First Fiddle. Yeah,
Well he was a good, really good resource. You know,

(52:02):
if I remember him, they were a big deal. Oh
he wanted he wanted a pot full of the station
and everything, really and you know, so that was the
best thing that happened to Regret over there. Mister C. B.
Whitney had her, of course. But anyway, I've got to
old Rosebud was my uncle, by the way, and Regret

(52:24):
was by broomstick out of a Hamburg mayor. Can I
see that pedigree as John Madden? Oh gotcha? Broomstick was
by Ben Rush. I've got to catch up here for
the football, cause we've got to. I've got to go
right on and do a commercial here now a shred

(52:44):
thenar three Old folly By in the missives spinning the
mile and one thirty four and four went all the
way to win the Grade three three hundred found out
the Shulouki States at Churchill last last Thursday. She beat
the older Village in Marriage by two and the three
quarter lengths. She is the sixteenth twenty two, twenty six
States winner by North America's leading sire, five of them
Grade one winners. The Spencer's dallions are pretty much dominating

(53:08):
the sire list in twenty twenty six in the midst
is the number one SAR for the seventh year in
a row y'all Pond is the leading freshman. Sara Vicom
was the leading second crop sire and Omaha Beats the
leading third CP SAR. What about leading sires of the future, Well,
let's take a we kind of picked one out randomly.

(53:28):
The younger stayns at Spencer Farm came up with a
horse named National Treasure. His first floes will arrive next
year as a reminder. He won the Classic Grade one Prickness,
the Grade one Peggie's World Cup, Grade one Metropolitan, placed
in four the Grade one station including the British Cup
Jusual as a two year old and the Britest Cup

(53:48):
dir Male Buyos from Cody's Wish, on his way to
earning five million, five hundred and seventy eight thousand. That's
more than any other members of his first cup. In
fifteen stars, he competed Darch. He competed in thirteen Grade
one States eleventh Street at seven different tracks against the
best dirt horses in the world. National Treasures by the

(54:11):
top sire quality Road out of Treasure by Madadi Duoro
from a strong black eyed family. You know, they've got
a good collection of leading size and potential leading size.
Over which mentry farm. That's the Breeders farm. It's called
Dez mark o'brown or Daniel at eight five nine two nine,
four years ago thirty in the website is entrif farm

(54:32):
dot com.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
Okay, talk a few here about Hill Parker. Hill Parker's
that great guy. He in its life for both super people.
They he's a licensed full time realtor.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
He's a partner principal broker. There's a whole list of
all the broker things he's a part of. He's a
senior real estate shust done and un graduated from UK.
He's here's the other part that's interesting.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
He's a licensed horse trainer in eleven states. My go, now,
that's a lot of trailing. He has years and years
of experience with all kinds of horses, primarily I think
sport horse stuff, Thoroughbreds and those kind of depot chasers,

(55:29):
fox hunters, decade. He's a graduate a pony clubber and
that is like getting a PhD in rocket science. And say, anyway,
the reason I bring that up is if you are
interested in buying a farm.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
You want to go into horse business. You want to
make a larger farm than you've got, so on and
so forth. How you set it up depends on what
you're gonna do with it. Are you gonna board horses?
Are you going to train? Are you gonna break your yearlings?
Are you gonna leg up the two year olds? Are

(56:06):
you gonna Uh? Did I say bored?

Speaker 4 (56:08):
That's another thing because uh, you know another thing people
don't think about. It's a good idea to have one
small something somewhere for isolation.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
When you get horses ship in from somewhere, you put
them with other horses and anyway. So he talks about
the structures and access and utilities and on and on
and on that you don't know about. So he's got
the experience that you want. That's Hill Parker and his

(56:41):
lovely brad Rigging. They work together. The best way to
get in touch with him is well, let's go to
the website. It's Lexhorsefarms dot com. It's a great website.
And here let me give you a heels tail number.
They say eighty five to nine number six view eight
HUO three nine. And that's Hill and Wigan Parker, nicest

(57:01):

and they do a great job for you. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (57:11):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul Ellis.

Speaker 2 (57:17):
Okay, can I say something real quick, real quick? Broomstick,
this is looking at this East Sire equipoise for crying
out loud? Yeah, oh my god. And then mother Goose.
All the horses that are now Steaks horse, you know
well their name events are big Steaks. They just last week.

(57:40):
I think, I mean, Holy Cally, if I heard of them,
they're really something, because you know, I mean, I just
think that's that's just unbelievable. I looked at that and
for the Holy Mackerel and there's some kind of two
looking to that. It's fun. That looks stay got money?

(58:01):
Alrighty Gavin? Have you been able to get in tests
with James Scully? Okay, I'll proceed on and hope you
can get in touch with him. Let's see what was

(58:24):
I going to do here? Oh yeah, I've got to
do a commercial begin with. And there are now two
winners of the Kentucky Derby Standing over the Airdriss stud
Mage won it in twenty twenty three in his first
rows arrived this year mister Dan is to stand his
first season and studied. In twenty twenty six, mister Dan

Great Too Lucas Classic at Turchy Downs in his last start,
and when we tired he'd earned four million, eight hundred

He also won the Grade three Blame Stakes at Churchill

(59:08):

Sunset winner this year of the Great one Madison Stakes

if Grade one winner going to Vegas, they won nine
hundred and eighty nine thousand by my standards, is his

(59:51):
leading money winner. He's he earned two million, two hundred
ninety four thousand, four hundred and thirty dollars and he
signed thirty three stakes one was eighty eight steak sources.
Dan interstood for a field fifteen thousand dollars, stands and
nurses a lot of horse for the money. Kentucky Derby

think and I know that Uh virchill downs for right
now is their long stake today is on the turf,
that great three Commonwealth purf. It's a good right at

(01:00:58):
states on the turf. But yeah, this is the week
before Thanksgiving. Next week will be a huge weekend of
racing here at Kentucky. There's nine days races on Churchill's
closing weekend Thursday through Sunday, highlighted by the Grade two
Clark next Friday, and the Kentucky Jockey Club and Golden

(01:01:20):
Rod for two year olds on Saturday. And we've had
Tampa Bay Downs and fairgrounds open here in like recent weeks.
And once Churchill closes next Sunday, turf Way will open
and Oakland's getting ready to open. So it's sort of
a holiday's time right now. And some new tracks at

(01:01:41):
Winter tracks opening. But if you're gonna be betting the horse
races today, bristnet dot com is the place for you.
Bozok Research Information Services. We've got all the handicapping reports

past performances. We've got tons of racing horse racing information
britainet dot com. It's the Handicapper's edge.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Who do you like in the colinwellth herk today?

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
I like Keith the Srmo's horse to Coso, he's uh
he won the Great two Secretariat this summer. Jocoso did,
and he two starts back at Kentucky Downs, he struck
the lead at the top of stretchers up by a

(01:02:44):
couple ends and ran second and the jockey got off
him and swore that he lost focus and idled and
didn't Last time out in the Bryan station at Keelan
he ran third, and I thought that jockey tried to
be too cute and time to move right, and then
he had trouble and upper stretch and it didn't work out.
But Jacoso gets a rider switched Ben Curtis. I've been

(01:03:06):
on him as at the fair Grounds and Jose Ortiz
takes over today. So it's a really good field though.
You know, Flying Mohawk will make his first start since
the Derby, but he's one of his last two turfs.
Starts by seven and a half balance. Trouble Shooting's the
horse to be for rankfully he comes off back to
back stakes wins, including a Grade one, and I was

(01:03:30):
really excited.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
I think.

Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
This morning that they're still on the turf, so that's
pretty good because that's gonna be a good betting race.
I think I also have one other play for you
today if you'd like good in race number eight today.
It's a maiden special weight race at six and a
half for all honks for two year affilies and number seven.

(01:03:56):
Kalo's comment is the four to one third or fourth
choice in the morning on with Gave Saiez. But she's
coming back to a sprint for Brick Calhoun, and I
really like her chances. She's either gonna be on the
lead or up close to the lead. And speed played
really well yesterday and I think it should be a

(01:04:17):
pretty you know, I think she's except for a pretty
favorable trip. So I like number seven. Kayla's comment in
race eight today.

Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Yeah, James terrefully opens, You're pretty quick? Didn't then?

Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Awesome?

Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Oh yeah, and terfully opened. And they actually have a
just a holiday meet. It's like a four week session
where they run through December thirty first and taking away
like a train on a jockey title for that then
they start all over juniorly first. But yeah, it's uh,

(01:04:54):
their firsts are up again this year. It's gonna be
really good racing. It's rful and I think there's gonna
be more horses there and it's gonna get some good racing.
Uh it looks like.

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Yeah, that person an Earthyl.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
Pardon, I said, you've won some races at Turfy Park,
haven't you.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Oh yeah, we used to quite a few as a
matter of fact fact to somebody you called us. Uh
you you win races in the winter time, don't you
go up and freeze? Go up and freeze? But off. Yeah,

(01:05:41):
we we've always heard a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
Talking with you. I hope you and Jackie have a
and the and the everybody listening has a great Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. And uh, I'll talk to
you again here soon.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Okay, well listen, you have a great Thanksgiving to you
and your family, and uh, we really appreciate you coming
and calling and helping us out.

Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
All right, what's my pleasure? Urse will take care? Bye?

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Okay, thank you. I like James. He's a nice guy. Yeah, okay,
let's see for I think we better take care of
our folks over to Kentucky the Bad Owners and Breeders Association,
although there weren't too many stakes last week, but we'll

(01:06:29):
give it to you here now. Uh, let's see this.
This brought to you by the Kentucky Thedosi Breeding Association

from Paris, Kentucky. But he breeds a lot of Louisiana bread,
horses and doves extremely well down there. Had lunch with you.
When was that Tuesday, Jackie. We had lunch with him, Yes, yeah,

(01:08:43):
nice guy. He's got a farm not too far from here. Yeah,
really nice. We had a great time. Yeah. And he
breeds on the new on the uh Louisiana program down
there for so he got a lot of Louisiana bread.
This is one of them, uh mean rising inflation and

(01:09:07):

Now she's one of This is not her first steak source.
She's one one other steak vices, you know. But anyway,
that's good old you. He came in and sat down

of people came in. Number was Matt Matt Howard. Who

(01:09:53):
took Who took a day off? He took it. He
didn't take very of many of That's the first one
I've ever noticed. If you're a manager of a horse farm,
this is it, guys. You know, you're between breaking yearlings
and selling at the sales, and all of a sudden,
the next thing comes up is breeding season and folds

(01:10:17):
and stuff. You don't take off then, so you've got
about thirty days. He manages a war horse farm, horse farm. Yeah, yeah,
he's the boy.

Speaker 4 (01:10:27):
He's good too. He's been over here. I'm for having
supper or something.

Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
What we were doing.

Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
Man, he's got this watch and that watch goes off
and he a lot of talks with somebody and out
the dooros.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Yes, he's really really pursue. They come over for sun
and night dinner. They won't their family. Yeah, Matt and
Crystal and the boys, Gauge and Matt.

Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
We're the substitute grandparents. The real grandparents are in camp. Yeah,
so it's great, we love it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Yeah, their family boys are great.

Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
Yeah, really, Okay, it's interesting to see what kind of
stuff they do at school. A real tall, thin one
plays in the band.

Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
That's good.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
And the one that's a little stuck here bays football.
Oh Paul, and now he's playing wrestling.

Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
Yeah. And he's on the academic team too. Yeah, so
that's gay. Yeah, they're great kids. They're both real smart. Yeah.
All right, let's see some other state races today. Negotiating.
They're running the Juvenile Sprint. Steaks six and a half

(01:11:46):
furlongs a going for seventy five thousand, post goes off
with two forty seven under Chuck. Strategic reserved by money,
chemical Neolithic have by Charlatan fights down as a dam

The day they're running the Dame Dave's Friends Stakes at
law it's pretty good south Field. What's the name of
that stake, Dave's Friend d A v E Oh oh okay.

(01:12:31):
There's one hundred town dollar stakes for three and up
goes off at two fifty two. Nothing grated today, just
the one that I gave you earlier. The Commonwealth ters
oh yeah, the Commonwealth, yeah, and one other I think
at Churchill. And let's see the Native divers steaks out

(01:12:52):
at California. Yeah. Yeah, it's got a field of five
indispensable Westwood who is by Authentic over at Spencer Farm,
Nevada Beach is by Omaha over a Spencer Farm, Irish
ours is by Justify over at Ashford Stood and Plusoul

(01:13:16):
on the outside is by this started Humor. That's a
Native diver. And then they're running the Pebbles stakes tomorrow
at Acuador. It's got the field of nine fast market
correct Starship Pegasus it ain't two four and Great Britain,
Paradise City, Free Treasure, Love You Anyway, Peak Height and

(01:13:40):
on the outside with the Angels by Omaha Beach Omaha
Beach is the leading third crop sire Nations over Spencer Farm.
So that's the big one. That's tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
The Pebbles Native diver was a big deal in California.

Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
Yes he was. I'd like to look that up sometime.
Did he ever come this direction? I don't remember. I
was too young. I remember the name, and he really
was the deal. Okay, Oh, said, we're gonna try to
get in touch with doc last week. He sent me

(01:14:21):
a note last week he was in a conference. Yeah,
and he had sent me a note that if we
could call him extra early, he might, you know, But
I didn't get the note because I don't really check
my text message. Well, Gavin, you want to see if

(01:14:44):
you can get in touch with with doctor Walmer. You
got his number down there, haven't you. Okay, see, if
you didn't get him, we'll get him, get him on
the air, and meanwhile, we'll go ahead and do what

(01:15:06):
we're going to do. I think what we better do
is uh clever, Yeah, we've better do a Cleveland. Oh good, good.

Speaker 8 (01:15:21):
Morning, drive, Hey, good morning.

Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Real good? How are you doing?

Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
Oh good?

Speaker 8 (01:15:31):
I went over to Auburn for a visit this weekend.
So I'm on the outskirts of Auburn driving to Stark Vegas.

Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
You aware.

Speaker 8 (01:15:44):
I'm outside of Auburn. I went over to Alburn to
the VET schools this past week for a day or two.
So I'm driving back to Stark Vegas right now.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Oh, you're going to what You're going to a football
game or something at over?

Speaker 8 (01:16:00):
No, they're playing mercer. I decided I didn't want to
go to that, so uh, I'm going. Uh went to
the went to the Vet school and uh hung out
with the folks at the Vent school for a little bit,
and then uh, I'm driving back this morning, so I
gotta go through all the not scaloose. I hope I

(01:16:20):
don't have to endure seeing a bunch of Alabama fans
driving around for the fight.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Oh, buddy had Obama's kind of falling on a hard time.
So it was alban Kentucky, for God's sakes.

Speaker 8 (01:16:35):
At least at least it's both of us. It's easier
to take.

Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
If it's at.

Speaker 8 (01:16:40):
Doing well either, it's a little better. I did offer
to take that football coach John.

Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
What's going on in Mississippi State? Anything exciting?

Speaker 8 (01:16:52):
Well, a little bit everybody's probably heard they was the
last weekend at a barrel ray in Waco, Texas they
had herpes. And I don't and I should know, but
I don't if there was any horses dye or anything
in that and that outbreak, but those horses.

Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
And they have the outbreak.

Speaker 8 (01:17:18):
And we have a lot of barrel horse clients, and
so we've had some that were truly exposed that. That's
the thing we've been dealing with right now is you're
getting a lot of calls from people who are worried.
But you know that that disease, the equin herpes virus
that causes neurologic disease, and that's the same strains that

(01:17:40):
can cause abortion. You know, everybody gives the vaccines to
the marrors at five, seven, and nine months of pregnancy
to help prevent abortion. It's the same strain of the virus.
You know, they have to be exposed to a horse,
so you know, it's not going to be birds, mosquitoes,
any of that. So you have to be exposed to

(01:18:02):
a horse. Because that's been a lot of what people
have called us about, you know, worried if the horse
is truly exposed and at risk. But if they weren't
exposed to a horse it wasn't that that specific barrel
race or a horse that went to that race, and
then you know, they get exposed to that horse, you know,

(01:18:22):
and then then they don't have exposure because that they're
only getting going to get exposed to that virus from
nasal secretions from the horse that's infected on from the
mayor of the board, and from mayor of boards and
and from herpes virus. And then you know what, what
the thing happens is the other horses come up there
and you don't see the the abortion, you know, and

(01:18:44):
they cast sniff at it, and all they can get
it get infected, or those bears can get shedded in
their nasal secretions and all. That's the only way you
get infected. But you know, the thing about herpes, and
I always use this an example for other viruses, is
that virus can travel thirty two feet in the air.

(01:19:05):
So if you got a horse with herpes that's coughing,
then they can you know, three stalls, you figure, that's
basically three stalls each direction that they can cough. And
that virus it's pretty resistant in the environment, and you
can kill it with disaffectant's easy, but that virus, at
least in the environment can hang around for about three weeks,

(01:19:28):
so you know it's important, you know, if you have
those outbreaks, to disaffect as best you can, and you
know for sure if you have mayors of board, you know,
get that stuff out of the way as quick as
you can. You know, take it to diagnostic lab because
they're great at finding it, and make sure it's not herpes.

Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Because you know it.

Speaker 8 (01:19:50):
Especially that there logic form can be problems. You don't
really see the abortion kind of be a storm of cases,
but this their logic form, you sure can. And you
know that it used to be that we thought, well
it was true that the strain that caused their logic disease,

(01:20:13):
and well it's still true, but a little less true.
That virus has a mutation in it, and the horses
that get that virus, they get really high levels of virus.
But then they're finding about twenty twenty five percent of
the cases they're kind of what we call the wild
strain that doesn't have that mutation. So you know, if

(01:20:33):
you think it's there, it's just important to get the
horse tested or if you had, Like we're telling these
people that think their horses have been exposed, you know,
get a nasal swab, and also you can get blood
because the virus travels throughout the body in a specific
type of white blood cell, the liposite, the one that
makes antibodies. So you want to get both blood and

(01:20:56):
get both nasal swabs and try to test your horse
is and we'll do what's called the PCR test, which
looked through the DNA to the virus. So you know,
it's relatively straightforward to diagnose it and think you're risk.
You know, that's just thing to do. Be sure to
take temperatures twice a day because usually, but not always,
they're also spiked of fever.

Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
That's a mess. How where is it now?

Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
Is it still in Texas or are you all getting somewhere?

Speaker 8 (01:21:26):
It started in Waco and I talked to an event
friend of mine in Oklahoma. He's he's an in in Oklahoma,
and they had added a case literally just down the
road from him of a horse that had gone uh
that was at it. That horse was actually at that

(01:21:47):
Waco barrel raith. And then there's been we got a
call about one and I think, well, I know at
least got the call of one that was down south
of us somewhere, and that horse had been exposed to
a horse that had been awayco that what wasn't showing

(01:22:08):
any entire logic sign but it was running a fever.
So you know they're worried because you can use the
other bad thing about herpes virus is there are drugs.
You know, you ever at COVID, you can put you
on that anti viral as we do have an anti
viral drug that works against herpes virus. The one we

(01:22:32):
had before it didn't work that great or were really
horses didn't absorb it very well. But there's a Kevin
new version of that one. The horses absorbed better. And
when we checked the price because we ordered some in
because we just have so many barrel horse clients, it's
much much tooper it used to be. I mean it
used to be hundreds of dollars to treat them, but

(01:22:52):
I don't I think it was only ninety dollars a
day or something to treat them. Now we got the prize,
so you gotta start that early. And because herpes, I
haven't had the greatest luck with it, but I haven't
seen that many cases either, but it'll when that virus
gets going, it tends to affect the hind end of

(01:23:14):
the horse. So kind of the classic is they they
have bladder paralysis and their tail paralysis and the hind
ends really weak. Like the dogs sit, you know, like
sit on the hind end and they have a taxia
their gates and steadies. So you know, I committed aubury
one time. I had two of them. I had one

(01:23:34):
had them two sab one side beside, and the one
that was doing well, that was going to live, they
only got tired of treating. That made me put it down.
And then then the one that I knew wasn't going
to live, they they made me treat and it did
not do well at all. And so it's not a
it's it's not an easy disease to treat, and you

(01:23:56):
don't not always successful because you know there have been
you know turf way An outbreaks years ago. You know
you did pop up a racetrack.

Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
Well keep us informed, okay, oh yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:24:16):
Oh well it's always out there. The thing is, see
the diagnostic lab, uh, the UK diagnostics that lab there
looked years ago and you know the herpes virus goes.
You know, herpes is forever. As one of things tell is,
it goes into the where the nerves of the head
kind of tie into things called ganglion, which is just

(01:24:38):
kind of they all come together and they found and
I can't remember the number, but it was a decent
number of mayors. This is any dropsy, they can find
that virus in those trigenal ganglia with a big nerve
of the head goes and so it's sitting there and
you know until the horse. It's like people when you
get a fever blister, it's herpes virus coming back, just

(01:25:00):
kind of recordis and waking up. And so a decent
number of those marriors had herpes virus those ganglias. If
they get stressed or they get sick, do anything like that,
then that virus can kind of pop back up and
they can shed it. That's the other weird thing about herpes.
So can vaccinate it against it, but there's no labeled

(01:25:21):
virus or vaccine that prevents this will prevent herpes virus
abortion or neurologic disease. We can help produce the incident
of it reduced.

Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
We thank you for that all that information.

Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
My goodness, what's that.

Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
I said, take care of it down there, don't let
it come up people.

Speaker 8 (01:25:48):
We'll try to keep it south south. We won't let
it go further to see if we get if we can,
because you know, it's probably taking another week or two
to kind of see where it's all gonna go. But
that's the real thing. Horses come together and then horses leave,
and then it goes with them.

Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
Then.

Speaker 8 (01:26:07):
Yeah, that's that's why we gotta try to contain it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
Right. Okay, well listen, we've got to move along when
we're running behind on them of commercials. Thank you all right,
good to talk.

Speaker 8 (01:26:20):
To you, Hope.

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
Okay, Hope. So, but Johanna's has a grade two States,

ursall had a talk with Ted McClain and we've been
business with him ever since and we have been more
than satisfied. It's this is.

Speaker 4 (01:28:42):
The interesting part. It's an independent insurance agency. They don't
go kaboom and you're locked up in some international company
where you are really just a number.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
And that's the truth. Boo. They're well au, they're huge, so.

Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
They don't work for an insurance company. They work for you,
and when they do, they use a carefully selected group
of financially sound, reputable companies. So they shop around and
offer the best coverage at the best price. So for

Speaker 6 (01:33:36):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and urso ellis
all right, I'm going to.

Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Read a little Joe Palmer just for the hell of it.
Let's see, we've got time and it's a little bit
of time here, don't we. Well. After Arms second Race
and Hi, this is written by Joe Palmer. Back in
the forties, After Arms second Race, High Lah, there was
a great shaking of head. Looks like he's washed up,

(01:34:04):
was the consensus. He had shown no early speed, and
he had gained only gradually on indifferent horses to be
an undistinguished third. It was a sad showing for horse
which in nineteen forty six and nineteen forty seven could
blow down anything on four feet and a mile and
a quarrel. Jimmy Jones, who trains the old Center bu Leave,

(01:34:25):
was at the door of the press box. Will go
on with him, he said, but it's one hundred to one.
He'll never win another stake trace he underestimated the fourth
of State one member modestly turning his back for a moment,
Producer Wilson dollar bill and took ten hundred dollars worth
of this. Jimmy accepted the wage of it, then shut
up his book. Several other persons were searching him, sales

(01:34:47):
menacingly that exterminator of the winter stakes after he was
eight Jimmy asked. There was no immediate answer, but later
there was a look in the new records. On April
of twenty one, nineteen twenty three, the Grand Old Gilling
picked up one hundred and twenty nine pounds and beat
another Kentucky Derby winner, Paul Jones, a neck for the

(01:35:08):
Philadelphia Handicapped at Harvey de Gras, giving the contender twenty pounds.
He ran in two other races that year, each time
under one hundred and thirty two pounds, and was one
third one second, beating the nose. He was three races
in the following year at nine. He won three races
the following year at nine, but they were not stakes
and he was in with lightweights. Recently, Arm was out again.

(01:35:30):
This time he won brushing Away in inferior fuel easily
and running seven purlohs of one, twenty three and two.
Wasn't the stakes race either, but Arm seems to have
found at the early speed that he lacked. He gets
here that Jimmy made a bad bet, but Arm will
have to go ways to merit. Comparison with the angular,

(01:35:50):
big framed Chessant which keptured the horse payers of the
generation of Gold, the most weight carried Arm the most
weight armed carr He ever was one hundred and thirty
five pounds in the six furlong Fall Highway to Handicap
four years ago, and two North gave him five pounds
and beat him. He carried one hundred and thirty two

(01:36:11):
pounds four pounds, was beaten in all of them. He's
never won under. He never won under more than one
hundred and thirty Exterminator, which at the same age of
his career had raised ninety three times against sixty nine
for Arm picked up more than one hundred and thirty
pounds exactly thirty times, and he won sixteen of them.

(01:36:32):
His best weight carrying effort was in the Kentucky Handicap
of nineteen twenty two, when he won seven The year
the race was in at a mile and a half.
An Exterminator rugged one hundred and thirty eight pounds over
the course and won by length and a half from
five brand a four year old under one hundred and
nineteen He won them would bind Autumn Handicap under one

(01:36:54):
hundred and thirty seven pounds, and he won repeatedly under
one hundred and thirty five very Old Jockey Club handicapped
with nineteen twenty he carried one hundred and thirty four
pounds and won a two and a quarter miles. There
are some other points of indifference too. It has always
been doubted here that Arm would go more than a

(01:37:15):
mile and a quarter and this has been confirmed more
or less by default, since the stable has resolutely refused
to send him any further. A regular event used to
be exterminated as conquest as a two and a quarter
mile pemical club. He wanted one hundred and twenty one
pounds in nineteen nineteen hundred, one hundred and twenty six

(01:37:36):
in nineteen twenty, and again in nineteen twenty one. He
tried it again in nineteen twenty two, but his years
hadn't got to him, and he was third behind Captain Alcock,
which got twenty pounds and Paul Jarns, which got twenty seven.
The one thing Arm won't mud In the Pemical Special
of nineteen forty seven, he made one passive cosmic bomb

(01:37:58):
on the wet track and then began falling back, leaving
the task to fervent. Exterminator took his races as they
came hard, cold, wet and dry. Does he neither track
nor weight, no distance. On the other hand, again, an
old warrior probably never had the high order of speed
which Arm commanded at his best. He would be a

(01:38:19):
mistake to think Exterminator as a proddert. He won at
six feur longs as later at the seventh year, but
it is Naphalletica have warm warm up at the middle distances,
but it's staying at weight, carring and it accepting any going.
We haven't seen Exterminators like since, though the suject came
clod when Exterminator wasn't the invincible giant that he seems

(01:38:43):
as one looks back through the years. He was given
the heaviest task in the Independent's handicap at Antonio and
drew out a fourth nineteen twenty two when he was
assigned his heaviest burden one hundred and forty pounds to
carry for punishing mile and a half. This student of performance,
then an innocent of college agent, was sitting thoughtfully in

(01:39:06):
a hand both up on North Limestone Street and election
in Kentucky at the time, ridding the constitution of the
racing form I forget, which there was in the race
a horse named Firebrand, which like Exterminator, was the son
of the imported stay in McGee, and also like Exterminator,

(01:39:27):
was a big rawburn grittish stayre once Hart went out
to Exterminator and he was cushing one hundred and forty pounds,
but Firebrand had only one hundred and sixteen, including mcgarnoer
at the peak of his form. Five Brand on the
fourth or two lives a good enough hunch for anybody.
It was decided Exterminator and Arousing six Firebrand won handsomely

(01:39:49):
from devastation, and this department was for some four hours
the wealthiest juvenile in central Kentucky. Exterminator and fire Brown
are both gone. Now Jo was Antonia. Those are many,
but all of them were grand while they lasted. Hey, man,
that's wonderful. That's Joe Palmer. That is Joe Palmer is wonderful.

(01:40:13):
That is I've got an old bit of the extermin
over here. But I don't think I had time to
read that. I was planning on it, but we weren't
out of time. Let's see it. Amazing what what? Who's
a bit? Uh? Who's od bit? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:40:37):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (01:40:38):
I don't think I have time to read him. Oh
maybe next week, maybe next week. Yeah, well, that's too bad.
And I see some really good stuff in books around here. Yeah,
this is the American racehources in nineteen forty five. Let's
see here, Joe Palmer used to write a lot for

(01:41:00):
that right, yeah, he did most of them. Yeah, yeah,
Wow he passed away in nineteen fifty two or something
like that. What a shame. Ah, Well, let's do something

(01:41:23):
for our friends that we spend for fun. They're having
such a good year with the stads. A nice bunch too.
Shread the gnar? What shred the nar? G n r?
That's gnar? What's the first one? Shread? Well? What? Man?

(01:41:47):
Uh huh? What does that mean? I have no idea?

Speaker 4 (01:41:52):
Can you see a five dollars better standing there with it?

Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
Or two dollars better with his beer in his hand?
Sand Come on, shred the nor they picked it won't
picked a winner. If he did, they gotta be something.
Will shred the gnar? A three old Philly by in

(01:42:16):
the mischief finded them out in one thirty four and
four lit. All the Way to win the Grade three
three hundred thousand Shiluki states at Church of Dawns last Saturday,
defeating old Aphilia in marriage by widening two and three
quarter lengths. She is the sixteenth twenty twenty six stakes
winner by North America's leading sire. Five of them are

(01:42:38):
Grade one winners. The spensive Stallions are dominating the stylist
in nineteen twenty twenty sixth Inn Mischief is the number
one sire for the seventh year in a row. Joe
Pond is the leading freshman sire. Wacoma is the leading
second crop sire. Omaha Beach the leading third crop Sir,

(01:42:59):
What about eating size in the future. Just at random,
we check out the youngest stallions as spend thrift and
came up with National Treasure. I haven't done much on
National Treasure. This first Frozen Uh will arrive next year
as a reminder, and I needed reminding. He won the
Grade one Preakness, They won the Grade one Peckison's World Cup.

(01:43:23):
He won the Grade one Metropolitan. He placed in four
of the Grade one Station two in the Breeders Cup
Juvenal as a two year old, and the Breeders Cup
Dirt Mile by nose beat Cody's wish. Oh he lost
it by nose, the Breeders Cup Dirt Mouth by no
Cody's wish one that by nose. It was a hell
of a race. Yeah remember that. Yeah, they're gonna do

(01:43:47):
a movie. Yeah, anyway, Cody's wish And anyway, this horse
I'm talking about and went on to earn five million
five and saved eight thousand more than any other members
of his car in fifteen starts. He competed in thirteen

(01:44:07):
grade one states, eleventh straight at seven different tracks against
the best dirt horses in the world. National Treasure is
by the successful quality Road. He's out of Treasure by
Madali Dodo. It's a strong black tut family. They have
a great collection of leading sias and potential leading schizow

(01:44:28):
Spencer far All you need to do is is given

nine fours years zero thirty and take a look at
the website, which is Spencerfarm dot com.

Speaker 4 (01:44:43):
And let's talk a little bit about Sally Horsemans absolutely another.

Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
You know, we've got really nice sponsors. They're really reputaball
and they do a great job for people. It's just
in Sally Vans one of them all horses free of
charge for old old friends. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Several years
ago they had some tornado damage somewhere down in Kentucky, yeah,

(01:45:17):
three or four counties away. Yeah, and uh, horses were
running loose and everything down there, and yeah, we're looking
for things to feed them and Sally loaded up a
van full of hay and took it down that kind
of thing. Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 4 (01:45:34):
Yeah, Yeah, that's that's the way they are. They're really nice, man.

Speaker 2 (01:45:38):
That's a great family. That's a Prat family. Yeah. I said,
I'm known the coal for all time Pony club days. Yeah. Yeah,
when Nicole Nicole her, I get that. It was a
great grandfather. Our grandfather was HV. Prad. Yeah, and I

(01:46:00):
love that old man he was. He was. He was
a great friend of my of my dad's owned a
little bar out on Seventh Street. He called everybody John. Yeah,
dad was John. I was John. You would be John.
They work pretty good, you know everybody understood. Yeah, why yeah,

(01:46:24):
he was. He was a fun old man. We trained
that alerking up there. We've been taking she was about
hanging on the wall up behind me. Yeah, that's great there.
They're great people and they that has come right down
through their business dealings and stuff with Sally Horse fans.

Speaker 3 (01:46:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
I mean, they're wonderful people. So they've been in business.

Speaker 4 (01:46:50):
Gosh, I wonder if Patty was alive when they started. Anyway,
it's been in business about sixty years plus, and you
know they've ships some of the greatest runners ever to
step on a racetrack. And I saw a picture of
Justify getting off a Sally Van. I don't know if
it's to the Derby or what, but it was wonderful

(01:47:12):
to see that.

Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
Like I always said, did enough for Justify? It good
enough for you anyway.

Speaker 4 (01:47:20):
What they really really pay attention to is experienced drivers
that are experienced horsemen.

Speaker 2 (01:47:28):
That's what you have to have. You can't just have
somebody drive doesn't know shank.

Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
So they work on that.

Speaker 4 (01:47:35):
And of course their rigs are fantastic, they're beautiful, they're
in tiptop shape. They have a great big place out
there where they take care of them.

Speaker 2 (01:47:44):
There isn't anything that they about shipping horses that they
aren't first class about. And that's the truth. So folks
at Sally horse Fans wouldn't have it any other way.

Speaker 4 (01:47:58):
And that's why for more than half a century Sally
Horseman's two five, five ninety four of six the safest
ways in the Winter Circle.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
Yeah all right, but Peppy he ad he trained American
for my dad. Ye harrows Snowden, not Harrow Snowden. Harold
Jordan's Frank for you at yeah, you know, and uh,

(01:48:33):
he was by Bernborough who was out a little Christmas sleep. All.
He had mister Hudgens, who was a trainer at that time.
He didn't he didn't like anything out of that marriage.
So he's so we're seeing uh in spyder fence too

(01:48:55):
out in California, and the people didn't really want versin.
They wanted spider fence. He was by Bully, had a
mat of hair, and he made him take him as
he had had to buy booth. And anyway, he went
out the sine, went out there and became a champion sprinter.

(01:49:18):
He was by burn Boro, a little Christmas spot, I
said that, I think. And then he had a horse
named Resolved, of the four brothers.

Speaker 3 (01:49:27):
That won.

Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Seven or eight states states and then Alarican. Yeah, and
he had couldn't get Larry to Alarican. Even the gallic
on the track couldn't get him to the track. Yeah,
So he said, get rid of him. My dad liked him,
so he took him, took him down, turned him out

(01:49:50):
with some old workhorses down there, and left him out
there intil the snow was flying. They must have beat
the hell out of him because the Dad said, he
went out out the tablegate on that trail. He said,
that horse I tore down on to get the hell
out of it, gave him, gave him over to mister
Peter at and and mister Pier had got him to

(01:50:12):
the races, took him to river Downs up there, and
there was some people up there that we had a
betting coup going on. Yeah, put and then there was
a four year old maiden and the maidens a maiden special,
and he ran three quarters and nine and change on

(01:50:33):
took him up to up the high Thistle Downs in
Randall Park or up there, and run him on some
of the fifteen thousand dollars steaks that they would have
fifteen thousand dollars at that time. This was done in
the forties, you know, and the fifties. I guess it

(01:50:56):
was in the fifties. And anyway, he he won two
or three of those up there, and they brought him
back to Keenan in the fall, and uh put him
in an allowance race out there, and the favorite in
the race was a horse that belonged to Dixie and
and miss hodd and trained American one. And then they

(01:51:18):
put him. Not only that his friend of mine was
the blacksmith, came het and for miss Peter, I was
going back to the paddock to look at look at American,
you know, and he he here he comes pat Hillock
was his name, and he can fly out of out

(01:51:40):
of there and run over him and he rehearsal lids
like a license to steel. So American set a new
track record that day and going six and after flows
that stood for a long time, came right back and
one another one beating them really nice horses, you know.
Beat dog gun was four brothers foon son and uh

(01:52:05):
each solution. But anyway, everybody had a lot of fun
with it or wonderful. Well, hid see we're about what
time is it? Well, it's time to say something nice
about the Thirdbord Training Center. Of course, we were out
there many many years, more more capacities than one. We
trained horses out there for I don't know how long

(01:52:27):
we went. We went a lot of races up most
of them are turf way. Yeah, yeah, and uh, but anyway,
it was it's a great place to train your horses
out there. We had Barn fifteen out there, and nice
thing about it was acquired and you take your horse
out in grays. You know, horses are thrived out there,

(01:52:49):
and if you got a yearling or something getting rid
of a two year old that you want to get
him ready to run, you can take him out there
and get him ready, you know. Of course, they got
all the facilities. They got a five acrel mile track,
we got a one mile track. You got a starting gate,
they got a clocker, they got grass gallops. The facility

(01:53:11):
is absolutely one. Guy's got a swimming pool place back
behind it. Yeah, yeah, you want to do that. But
the stew rent is reasonable if you can get one.
Sometimes it's hard to get stalls in there, you know.
But but the best thing to do if you just

(01:53:34):
kept one or two horses, you know, is we get
try to find somebody wants to sub lease a couple
of stalls. When we had Barn fifteen, we used to
sub lease stalls. Yeah we did. Yeah. We had what
were those barnes, nine stalls on the side, eighteen stoll
bar yeah yeah, nice tack rooms yeah for crying out

(01:54:01):
yeah yeah, and nice feed rooms and then the other
end of the barn was a big place yeah and
shawl yeah. And they well you would do go in
and clean that gets stalls all clean and take it
outside to the muckpit and they clean those muckpits out

(01:54:21):
every day every morning. They were clean. Oh yeah, I
mean it was. It was clean as clean, you know.
It was good, very nice. And if you're lucky, they
have paddocks and you can lease paddocks, which we did. Yeah,
and take good care of their fences. Yeah, Gavin went,

(01:54:42):
it's samples to be at just play betrayals and then
it clues in and then thank you so much for
what you've done that for us today, Gavin, He's do
have a nice job. That's good. Yeah, he always does
a nice job. Infers from Georgetown from Georgetown. Yeah, yeah,

(01:55:06):
he assumed Georgetown. Georgetown is gotten prouded. Okay, alrighty, so
once once again, the number to call out there if
he once stalls is an eight five to nine number
of two nine three eighteen fifty three. You had your
law office out there for a while, that was my

(01:55:28):
law office number. Yeah, because I guess I just used
their number. I guess I did. I don't know. Yeah,
they went through the they had switched over out there. Yeah, yeah,
that's how they did it. Yeah, they realized Yeah, so
you had your office and until you bet you got
hurt your head to retire. Yeah. Absolutely, Yeah, there used

(01:55:52):
to be well, I guess there's still are we. I
had a lot of older women from the mountains who
would bring their husbands, you know, as they got an
into the UK to the medical center, one of the hospitals.
It always ran into trouble paying. And I had a
lot of those serp you know, of those clients and

(01:56:13):
we straightened them out so it didn't bankrupt them or
something you know. That did That was pretty good. And
then I did I did uh immigration when they obeyed
the wall. The law of immigration law was pretty good.
But at those days you had to obey the wall. Yeah,

(01:56:37):
so we'd go through and get people. Oh they had
to cross the water way across the river. They do, Yeah,
they just don't. Well they shut it down now, but
it was wide open. The border was wide over for
a long time. Yeah. But they when they'd come in,
they would do the right apput patient process. The whole

(01:57:01):
deal was get people a green card. And I you know,
I used to ask the guys, especially from Mexico, why
are you coming here? And they said drugs. That was
always the answer. It's just oh I think I hear.
Yeah they Royan Dale, Royan Dale is singing good guys.
Yeah all right, well, well we'll be on next week

(01:57:25):
about this time, and Gavin, thank you for everything down there,
and we'll talk to you all next week.

Speaker 3 (01:57:35):
Happy tell me me
