The last Saturday would bind the ninety one thousand dollars
My Deer Stakes was won by borders Are, two phillys
from the first cop By Bowl Limb. Tucky borders Are
has started twice. He's won both times, one of My
Deer Stakes for two and three quarter lengths, and she's
the second stakes winner from the first cop By Bowl Limb,
having been preceded by Dana Lunch, winner of the one

(01:49):
hundred and fifty thousand dollars Texas for Tity. That's the stakes.
It's not restricted these open stakes anyway. Through last Sunday Bowl,
Limb ran second on the Freshman Silest to a stallion
that stood for twenty five thousand dollars. This year, bo
Liam Stud Feed is over airdri Stud six thousand dollars.

(02:11):
Live Folding is the only freshman tire with two stakes
winners this year off to a great start. Bo Liam
was bred by Stone Street Third Bed Holdings and was
described by Stone Streets John Monaghan as an absolute freak.
We should have listened to him, shouldn't we. He sprinted
six furlongs in eight and three in his very first

(02:32):
start and that was the fastest six phurlongs ever recorded
by a maiden in the history of Churchill Downs, and
that goes a long way back anyway. He won two
lounge races at Saratoga. In his next two starts turned
into Bier speed ratings of one hundred and six and
one hundred and seven, and what proved to be his
final start, he was second when the Akas takes at

(02:54):
Churchill Downs. They were in a mile to one thirty
three and four that day. Bow Liam could fly and
he's passing on his Briller speed O. Lim is by
Liam's map, winner of the Grade one Breeders Capt Dirk
Mile win of the Grade one Woodward. He earned a million,
three hundred and eighty five nine hundred and forty dollars
and one of one hundred and some eighteen Stax winners

(03:17):
by Cy's unbridled song. Lim's map twenty twenty five stud
feet was forty thousand dollars Love four. So you can
get to his leading uh uh sire freshman sire today
for a whole lot more than that. What you need
to do is just called Shannon or Kyle over at

(03:40):
airdri stud Here's a phone number over there. It's eight five,
nine eighty seven, three seventy three hundred.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Horse capital of the World. It's Horsetails with Ursul Ellis,
we'll talk about the horses, the people, and the history
of the thoroughbred industry.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Wait and secretary of that, what's.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
The flight to and alflets now live from Kentucky's Bluegrass region.
Here's Ursul.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Good morning everyone, And I don't know what to do.
And it's not raining around here anymore. I don't know
been raining today.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Michael, and we were just whispering about. I was telling
him about Ressi's daughter got an internship with NASA. Yeah,
isn't that cool?

Speaker 3 (04:39):
I mean, after a mother.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
That's so very nice, very nice. So it's not raining
as you were raining.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Michael Bowen is here. He has just showed up with
and he's carrying his Bible in his hands and hit it.

Speaker 6 (05:00):
Hallelujah, brother, hallelujah. Have I got it right here for
you today? And just put a little money in my
little bucket here and I'll take it down and make
sure it goes to.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
The right spot. Well, they one and a couple of
really good ones today. That are they having a coaching
club American.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Now next week.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
You're going.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
A week after.

Speaker 7 (05:21):
I'm going next week, next week, both of you going.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, hello, John and I.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
We're gonna Saratoga will never be the same. I guarantee it.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I guess maybe that's.

Speaker 7 (05:32):
Terrible, very very productive, and very profitable.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I hope.

Speaker 7 (05:36):
I'm sitting there, sitting on the porch Joe bowkins An's
Washington in I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I can.

Speaker 7 (05:43):
I can smell the flowers.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Now, there you go, going up together.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
Huh yeah, well, yeah, I'm gonna drive. I think he's
gonna play. He's smart, you know he's gonna do that.
But I'm gonna stop. I got to stop at my
sister's house in Connecticut, got to see her, and then
I'm getting together with the survivors of our high school
class of nineteen sixty four in Connecticut.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
How many are left?

Speaker 7 (06:09):
I have no idea. Probably two or three.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, mine class of sixty I don't you know they
still couple of them still get together.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:17):
Yeah, Well I didn't go to the I haven't been
to a reunion in forever. When when I got to
the point where I couldn't play softball anymore, I thought, well, what's.

Speaker 8 (06:26):
The point I can't right, you know it's not it's
going to get I say that a lot lately. I
say that I have a friend that's in assisted living,
although she's fine, yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:37):
And assistant living. Exactly right, exactly right.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Well, she said, it's real nice. She said, I'll drop
something on the floor and I'll just look at it
for a couple of days. They pick anything up.

Speaker 7 (06:53):
What's the hurry. Yeah, it's our motto, that's our model.
But isn't it a great day for racing? I mean
you just look around as Saradoga and of course the
great day at Mama te boil boy. I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
This is very exciting.

Speaker 7 (07:08):
You can kind of tell, right.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
It's gonna be a big day this day.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
This week, and this week. I'm gonna pick a winner
and a loser. Now I'm gonna pick a winner.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 7 (07:22):
There's a horse that's running at Woodbind woodbind today, I think,
so I gotta better check hold on a second, let
me consult the Bible here and see what's going on.
But yeah, Woodbine Woodbine Race six. This this well, no,
the Christophe Clement, the great horse trainer, passed away. Yeah,

(07:46):
at the age of fifty nine, and I really like
Christoph a lot. He gave us a wonderful horse named
lou Bash and is a big one. A lot of
races at Saratogan around And I told him one day ago,
I go, hey, hey, Christoph, how come all the horses
we get from you are grouchy and without missing a meadigo?

(08:09):
So that is because they're leaving the greatest trainer in
the world and they have to way with you.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
You.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
But anyway, his son is taking over the stable.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Good. I got a question about her. What son't he
married to the yond that does the.

Speaker 7 (08:24):
Color on Acasia Acacia, Yeah, formally Acacia Courtney now Acacia Komar.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
And she's been helping old friends forever Acasia. So it's
a really neat family.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
But she's very nice to look at it.

Speaker 7 (08:36):
Well, I think with the thing here, people don't care
that you like look at the blonde girls. That really
doesn't interest them.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
You know, I'll look. But I forgotten what.

Speaker 7 (08:47):
Well, good, exactly right. I thought that's why, that's why
Jackie's a blonde. Now I thought she was, you know,
she knew your preference, but I thought it was Yeah.
Actually I can't see either.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
It's a dull white.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
But to get to the point at hand, which is
the sixth race of would bind. Today, there's a horse
named Dance macab who's gonna be a big favorite. Don't
expect a price. You're not gonna make a ton of.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Mon like death.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Yes, Dance Macob, it's a five year old. She is
a five year old. Mayor and uh, Miguel Clemont can
read a condition book better than anybody I've ever seen.
And he read this condition book and said, boy, oh boy,
this is a this is a race named and this
is a race that was just written for this horse. Yeah,

(09:38):
it's a it's a it's a condition. It's a non winners,
A two light non winner is a two lifetime. And
this horse has been running in the Intercontinental, the Giants, Causeway,
the Caress, the Glen Cobe, the Music City, and one
the one, the Mademoiselle, one that here comes the Bride.

(10:00):
I only lost the Matron by a length. And this
ourself of eligible for this non winn is a two
life for claiming price of fifty thousand dollars mouth. He
found out that well, even though it's a it's an
optional claimer. You don't have to put a claiming price
on it. I say, non winter is a two lifetime.
If this horse doesn't win by ten lengths, it's unbelievable.

(10:23):
But he's bringing them all the way up to Canada
from Saratoga. So that number six, number six, number.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Six, Okay, great six and six. We'll watch for that.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
If you get three to five, it's you know, it's
a good it's a good bet.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yeah, how bad you in one? Chris Southswives, Irish Irish
girl Acacia.

Speaker 7 (10:46):
No, I don't. I don't know. I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Maybe I don't know where I got that.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Okay, sorry maybe.

Speaker 7 (10:52):
But anyway, she's really she's a she's a first of all,
she's a terrific person. She was a leader in Connecticut
in after care. She has a little farmer. She has
some of her horses with her. She and her mother
run it and do a really wonderful job. And then
she she used to she modeled hats for us when

(11:13):
we were when we were auctioning off the Derby hats
that Sally Simon was making out in Massachusetts, and uh,
and she did that for us. And she's always been
a big supporter of ours. And on top of everything else,
she's really brilliant when it comes to talking about these horses.
Wonderful and she's a very good interview after the after
the races, and she's done a tremendous job. So that's good.

(11:37):
So that said, Dance macob Dance maccobb is. We've had
a lot of have been really busy at the farm,
which has been terrific. What we uh. Mario Gutierrez jockey
brought his whole family to the farm to visit recently,

(11:59):
and he's famous for us because he rode All Have
Another to the Derby and won the He won the
Derby and the Preakness and All Have Another, so he
was all excited to see All Have Another. Yeah, and
Lava Man and all the other horses that we have there,
but mostly he was there to see All Have Another.
And he'll be coming back. And John's been working on

(12:21):
some really important things and some really good things for
all friends that I think he will probably like to
talk about next week. So that's good. It's been a
lot of fun. We're having a lot of fun at
the bar, dodging the year, dodging the storms, and all
the horses survived. They all look really.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Good, So yeah, let's see, and I were Outlas Sunday.

Speaker 7 (12:43):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, it's real funny. He major like carrots and peppermints,
and the other horse likes Missus pastures. Yeah, so I
got a left hand full of and a right handful of.
I can't remember his name. I don't know what they

(13:05):
call him, racketeer.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
Oh, he's a nice for us. He's been with us forever.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yeah, he's real sweet. But they both have their likes,
thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (13:16):
So, yeah, they all have their preferences. Boy, that Missus
Pascher's boy. I'll tell you there's not a horses on
the main farm that doesn't like the Missus pastures. Yeah.
I'm suber charmed. Because he only has four teeth. He
has to get the crumbs, so he gets Missus Pastor's
Sensus crumbs. And a representative from Missus Pastures came on

(13:36):
a tour last week and we had a really nice time.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Oh, I'll bet that is nice.

Speaker 7 (13:41):
Yeah, it was really nice. They're very interested in what
we're doing. Where she located, Colorado? Oh wow. You know,
nowadays it doesn't make a difference where you live. You
don't have to be anywhere near where you work, right.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Right, right exactly. It's amazing.

Speaker 7 (13:58):
Yeah, I'll be I'll be cutting out of this planet
just about the correct time I think. I think I'm
so far behind now, oh my god, I'll speak to
back up forever. And I still wouldn't close.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
I spent two hours trying to make a password, and
I can do it. And they even had somebody on
there let me help you.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
Well that's what they always say. That means exactly the opposite. Yes,
And so.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Finally I put I quit for now. Thank you got
out of there. It made me crazy.

Speaker 7 (14:35):
Yeah, less time I'm involved with. I have a hard
enough time with human intelligence. Artificial intelligences just.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Too much for me.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
Yeah, I can't get because artificial intelligence is not only
smarter than me obviously, but it's impossible to discuss anything
with them exactly because they already know all the answers.
It's like having a braddy little kid, you know, knows
all the answers.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, I don't think so, Okay, you gave us the winner.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
Okay, now we're gonna give it. Now we're gonna find
We're gonna find my We're gonna find my fabulous loser,
and I'm gonna find that work that's a saratoga.

Speaker 9 (15:15):
And or is it?

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Or is it it?

Speaker 5 (15:18):
Mom?

Speaker 7 (15:18):
See, I can't even remember what I can't even remember
what track it is.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
You know, if we ever they say we can't do
the show from the training center, we could go to
the Senior citizens and you know, they might show us
some yoga.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
I think I think the ursul Ellis Look yoga class
would be extremely popular in the assisted living. It would
be popular anywhere. That's a great idea for a fundraiser
at Old Friends, Bring your yoga bead. Ursula's gonna lead
a yoga class in the Josephine Abercrombie Events Center at
Old Friends. Yeah, singer Fads will play some music. Purcel's

(16:01):
gonna lead the class in yoga at.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
The Josephine Ebercrombie Comma. She has passed Colma, but that's okay.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
Yeah, Pursel's carrying out a fabulous tradition.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Am a race on super Child ever too? Okay?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
You see are you guessing.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
That?

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Well, there's a horse in there named Russy? Are you
s e?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Are you s he?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:29):
That's not Ruse.

Speaker 7 (16:33):
I don't know, it could very well be. I'm gonna
find this. I'm gonna find this other horse.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
How much time do you spend on the form?

Speaker 7 (16:43):
Probably too much?

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah, probably too much.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
But at least then I know how I lost too
much on the phone. She had twelve dollars. There's a
lot of dough.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Wow, good lord, I remember when they were a quarter.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, and that's something free.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
If you went to the one of the local bookies
in Lexington. Are they all gone? I don't know.

Speaker 7 (17:09):
Well, you know everything was a Drake hotel and it's
it's gone.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
It was right down Shore Street.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
There was one I wanted to go when I was little,
and there was one in Connington. I think it was
Ludlow Caddy corner from the police station, and it was
a saloon and you went in and then you went
back through some door and up some steps and it
was exactly like they show it in the movies. There

(17:40):
was a whole wall of chalkboard with these things like
charts on them and they had filled them in and
they would call it. I guess they called. Wonder how
they got the call as the race went, you know, Uh,
I wondered about that.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Yeah, they had of our service at that time. Oh okay, yeah,
they will called by the quarters and then a stretch call.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, finish. Yeah. I thought it was great.

Speaker 7 (18:13):
Well, I wish I wish I knew those days. I like,
get it going.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
You know.

Speaker 7 (18:19):
One of the reasons. You can bet on your phone,
you can bet on your computer, you can do all that.
You can have your account and all that business. But
you know, I really like going to the Red Mild
and Third Brack Club because I see people and you
kind of talk about the races and you discuss it
and there's a lot of fun. It's like, it's like
what one of the things that Drew mean it at
the first when I first started getting into this and

(18:41):
Suffolk Downs is you go meet the people and have
some fun and you know, it's a real social occasion.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
And it used to be a lot easier to bet
when all you were betting into was the Suffolk Downs pool.
Now you're betting into the artificial intelligence. You're betting into
all these huge pools now, and there's you know, it
used to be I I was, I was I was
offensive enough to think that I was smarter than some
of the people at Suffolk Downs and that who are
I was betting again, and and it was a little easier,

(19:14):
and now you're I'm betting against everybody's smart, a lot
smarter than me, and it's harder and harder. I find
like a horse and you think you should get five
to one, and all of a sudden it's two to five,
you know. But anyway, I've got I've got my h
My loser of the week is that is that Saratoga.
It's a mile and three eighths on the grass, and

(19:34):
I hope that it stays on the grass. Russey's going
to check on the weather up at Saratoga for us
and give us an update to see if they're going
to the main track only, but it stays on the grass.
Michael trombeta has a horse and it's a very interesting
uh a very interesting class drop. We're all twelve to

(19:56):
one on the morning line. Number three in the eighth race.
Okay went arris and trained by Michael Trevetta. Michael Trombetta
loves winning races, as Sarah Dogga a lot of people do.
But he really answered Saratoga and this horse ran a really,
really nice race last time and finished second, and I

(20:20):
think he's gonna close and he'll do better. And a
lot of the horses that that he's lost to are
are in this race, but he's been aiming for this race,
and that they kind of quasi hidden class drop this.
Last time he was in against horses that were non
winners of two other than and now he's dropping back

(20:41):
into non winners of one other than. And he ran
very competitively last time. One other than made and flaming
starters usually that's the condition.

Speaker 10 (20:54):
I didn't hear then, and he gets he gets Dylan Davis,
and Dylan Davis is starting.

Speaker 7 (21:04):
To really pick it up at Saratoga. And the other
thing is a lot of the top jockeys at Saratoga
are are going to be at Mamouth riding big horses,
and yeah, the big races at Mamouth, And so it's
going to give the opportunity for some of the other
writers to really step up. And I think Dylan Davis
is in a prime position at twelve to one. You know,

(21:27):
dime super you can play him second, third, fourth wherever
you want, but I think he's going to give a
good accounting of himself.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
How far is it from Saratoga to Mama, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (21:38):
I've never made it, but you know, Mama's right.

Speaker 11 (21:41):
Mama's is like it's.

Speaker 7 (21:44):
At the Ocean Oceanport, New Jersey. Okay, it's a depending
on traffic, five hours.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Oh okay.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
They played the coast to the coast there, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (21:54):
Right on it.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yeah, Oh well, good, that sounds like decent a of
watching TV.

Speaker 7 (22:03):
Yes, it's a big I think the post time for
the first race that at Mommouth is like noon.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Ah Asco goes off of a quarter to six.

Speaker 7 (22:15):
Good, good, good, that's just about just about an hour
before my bedtime, so I'll be able to stay awake
long enough.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Well, who do you like in the Halske?

Speaker 7 (22:25):
Well, I mean journalism is going to be a big favorite, obviously,
But the horse that I'm going to put underneath him,
I think Bob's horse has a shot. I think goal
Goal Oriented has a shot. The number eight horse, he's a.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
He.

Speaker 7 (22:47):
You know, he's only had three starts, but he ran.
He ran well against these sources.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
In the.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
In the in the pre in the Preakness. But you know,
so I think that race it gave him a lot
of experience. He's been setting bullets bullets like crazy out
at San Antonia, you know, fifty on July the eleventh,
he ran he did five furlongs first of fifty seven,

(23:14):
a bullet workout in fifty nine and one he did
first of fifty seven fifty eight the race the workout before,
so you know they're gonna he's very, very quick, and
I wouldn't be surprised that he put a lot of
pressure on on some of these other horses. But the
horse I'm going to play underneath is Burnham Square, who

(23:38):
ran really poorly in the Kentucky Derby, so everybody's kind
of discounting him, but that was a sloppy track, and
there's this horse has some excuses, and Ian Wilkes knows
where to put him. He won the Bluegrass Stakes. Brian
Hernandez is following the horse to Mormouth, and I think
Burnham Square is gonna maybe finish second or third behind either.

(23:59):
Go oriented it were journalists, you know, you can always
sound so confident when it's before the race, so self assured,
and then you go, what the heck? After the race,
you go, how did that happen? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Exactly, Well that's good, that's interesting stuff. But oh, I know,
did you find out if it's going to rain up
there today?

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Fast?

Speaker 7 (24:28):
Still? Fast?

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (24:29):
I hate it when they take it off the turf.
You know, it's just you know, you won't feel them
twelve down the three or four, I know, and all
I can think of when I see four coming out
of the gate as well. I guess they don't pay
back to fit, you know, they only otherwise i'd put
anything in there.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Yeah, yeah, it's hard.

Speaker 7 (24:52):
The only thing good about taking them off the turf
is you can really concentrate on some of the horses
that are then have entered as main track only horses.
And yeah, you can kind of focus on them a
little bit. So you know, it's gonna be a lot
of fun. There's a lot of great racing today. Got
a lot of people coming to the farm today to
visit the horses.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
How about the Briar Oh that was great. They did.
They have a bunch of kids from that.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Yeah, John's the new hit. You know. They have their
own TV network.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
They have their what their own.

Speaker 7 (25:24):
TV network twenty four hours a day, Briar TV. You're kidding,
Briar Fest. The Brier people have their own TV network.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
The model horses.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
Yeah no, that's what he just said. Yeah, no, no,
it's great. It's great because you too, it's often our
busiest day of the whole year, weekend of the whole
year when they're yeah, when it happens. And and John
was on the TV show. They had the TV show
there that it's got huge ratings among you know, did
Cognisente good Lord? And I used to think, oh, well,

(26:00):
it's just placid little horses and all that kinds of
But I don't think that anymore. I think it's they
do a lot of really really good things. And they're
very generous, you know, buying stuff in the gift shop
and everything and everything else. And and they liked the horses,
and yeah, they're totally a collectible thing.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Yeah. They had a huge tent at the horse park,
I mean enormous.

Speaker 7 (26:25):
Oh yeah, that's where they do the TV show. Would
they do it live on location from briar Fest.

Speaker 12 (26:31):
Many moons ago, there was another radio show off going
off to me and the guy was a really expert
and he got to talking about what I wanted to read.

Speaker 7 (26:43):
The buyers were, oh, my god, Yeah, that's pretty funny.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
That was funny. Yeah, that's funny.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
You are, well, they don't mess up their stalls.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
Yeah, really really, it's it's amazing and and the people
there were really really nice, and they had a good
time on the farm, and they got to feed some
of the Well, little Silver Charm was a little silver
I can't remember it. A long time ago. They made
a small briar horse out of one of our horses.
I can't remember who it was. It was gray, it

(27:13):
was a gray horse. It wasn't Silver Charm. It might
have been a little silver Charm. When on Tuesday visit
lets people are coming to the farm to do a
story on our cats, the cats of the Bluegrass. I
know they should. I'll mention that to them. I'll mention

(27:34):
that to them.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
That far down the list.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Yeah, we won't be dying aboard them anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
That's funny. Well, I saw somewhere popped up on my
phone somebody had a collection of briars. And it wasn't
every one of them. It was a section of them.

Speaker 7 (27:55):
Nobody's got every one of them.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Only twenty one hundred dollars sail for not an individual.
This must have been ten of them. I don't know,
but I'm thought.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Hand that she's got.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Ressie's sister has all of them. Mothers she retire.

Speaker 7 (28:17):
Don't give her a dress out. No, yeah, they it's
it's it's just an amazing it's an amazing thing.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:26):
I think that's just but anything that helps. There are
the old horses, and TV shines a nice light on
the horses, and I'm racing and I respect for these
great animals.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
It's a good thing.

Speaker 7 (28:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
Well, what's coming up new at Old Friends.

Speaker 7 (28:43):
Well, we're just busy all the time with the visitors.
I mean it's been great.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yeah, it's been really really great.

Speaker 7 (28:49):
And you know, John's working on some things.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
And then.

Speaker 7 (28:56):
My friend Steve, who who is in charge of production
of the Old Friend's magazine, as the Daily Racing Forum
puts out. Yes, you know, he came to the farm
and we went around with him and some of his friends,
and we're working on an arrangement with Daily Race from
We need some umbrellas for our tables, big umbrellas for

(29:18):
the picnic tables. Oh so I'm trying to get the
Racing for him to put their logo on a couple
of umbrellas.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Oh yeah, big umbrell it's like beach umbros. That would
be great.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
Yeah, yeah, I know, I should just go and get them.
I got hey, I got, I got all my growlers
are in the car empty.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
It won't be locked.

Speaker 7 (29:44):
On the way to the Red Mile. You know, the
country where they have downtown is on the way to
the Red Mile. And if I leave about fifteen minutes early,
I can get my still with some cliff jumper and
some half way home. Fabulous.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Now they're racing right now at the Red Mile.

Speaker 8 (30:02):
You all have no but I.

Speaker 7 (30:05):
Don't think so. But they had some test races, you know,
some qualification races a week ago. Maybe it's two weeks
ago anyway, and it was really interesting. There were somebody
told me there were twenty two races where these horses
have to qualify for certain things. Here was no betting
on them, but it's fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (30:26):
And oh, my new best friend at the Red Mile
is is Sambuie, the basketball player. He's the nicest guy.
Oh yeah, he's really really nice. And he's of course
he's famous because he was picked in the draft before
Michael Jordan.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Was it.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Yeah, he was far back. He was very fragile.

Speaker 7 (30:47):
He broke a lot of bones, he had.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Bought a lot of bones.

Speaker 7 (30:50):
Doing his career ruined his career. He's in the NBA
for ten years. Yeah, he's a big guy, seventh foot one.
But he broke his foot and he broke his ankle
and he did this. Yeah. But boy, oh boy, when
he was playing mostly for the Portland Trailblazers.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
Uh, he was really really good.

Speaker 7 (31:07):
It's just too bad he was so susceptible to injure it.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Oh that's too bad.

Speaker 7 (31:12):
Now who kept him out?

Speaker 2 (31:14):
What team was he on? Was the Cats? Was there
another real tow person, Sambooie and and that's it? Yeah, yeah,
the Twin Towers that's what it was. Thank you Red Yeah, because.

Speaker 7 (31:30):
It's a fabulous research department.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
He's wonderful. Yeah. So we of course did all the
radio show downtown, the daily radio show, and when somebody
like Sambouie or something would show up, Patrick would come.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
You know, he.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Get to shake their hEDS so nice. I mean, people
come over to him at the races at the Red
Mile and tell him, tell him I haven't seen you
in you know whatever, and he's so kind to them
and nice and conversational. Yeah, you know, he's very he's
very nice. I said, with you around, nobody comes over
talk to me anymore.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Was that joby? Yeah? Is that the one where they
slowed it down at the end.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
I don't want to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Russy didn't want to talk about it. Well, boy, we
sat down there in that studio and watched dress of
it to be okay and watch the rest of that game,
and joby, they were ahead, they were moving, they were beautiful,
and they were ahead. So he decided to slow it down.
And that was a kiss of death.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
I could never I can never understand why they still
do it. I still can't understand that you lose all that,
my mom. It just doesn't work that often. Everybody says, well,
we already won the game. Well yeah, the other team goes,
well maybe not, yeah, maybe not. I gotta catch up,
all right, I'm gonna go to I gotta go catch up.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
All right.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
We'll see you.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
I'm gonna go by some.

Speaker 7 (33:00):
Other races to beat you get some really good information
next week with John and if you want, me and
John will be on the porch of the Washington in
two weeks from today.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
That week, okay, good, thank you?

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Because well I can't recall ever writing a commercial featuring
the first time starting two year old, But here we
go July thirteenth, and would bind two out Hero two
year old quote by Warfront red in Kentucky by course
of third Bridge Broker's Maiden by twelve links in an
eighty four thousand dollars Maiden special. And here is a

(33:33):
quote from the official chart of the race two out
Hero seized control right from the outset under a snug hole,
dictated the pace unchallenged down the backside, open up at
will around the bend, continue to increase the margin down
the lane under only mile hand ride and was geared
down for the dominant win. So there comes another warfront.

(33:58):
There's always another warfront, but this one looks special. Warfront
is side going on one hundred and twenty stakes winners
from the number one sire. He is the number one
sire by lifetime percentage of stakes winners and graded stakes winners.
He's one of one hundred and ninety eight states winners
by Danzig and both Danzig and Warfront where they stood

(34:18):
their entire careers. Right Derrick Claven Farm Warfront was still
the Claven farm Man. He's been joined by his Grade
one winning son, Annapolis, whose first rows arrived this year.
Annapolis is a superb individual. You gotta go look at
this source appreciate him. Sore is fold Annapolis one graded
station was unbeaten as a two year old. He won

(34:40):
Grade one States at three. He won States again at four,
hearing the million five hundred and eighty one thousand, seven
hundred and seventy dollars and comes from a great female family.
His damn won graded States, Ren's second in the Kentucky
Oaks and earned over six hundred and five thousand. For
more on the Clavern statards, it's called Jacob West eighty
five nine nine seventy two three three over when the

(35:01):
website is Cleaverronfarm dot com. Well, of course, Clavering's over
in Bourbon County, and so is Indian Creek, and the
Clayward Agency is located over in Berberburan County. The clay
Warded and SE's right there on Main Street. And they've
been in business since nineteen thirty one, so they're by

(35:24):
my Russell Kay's school math that's about ninety four years ago.
And anyway, but they must have been doing something right
because they've been in a business. But well, they do.
What they do right is give you great service and
then they know what they're doing. They have a thorough
knowledge of the horse business. And those qualities are carried
on on today whatever your insurance, if it pertains to

(35:48):
the thirdbred. They professionals that the Clayward Dancy are in
a great position to supply the best coverage at the
best price available. You need to just call the Bruce
Asex or Shack. Perry bumped into Shack yesterday and old
at at Whills restaurant and look cat just came in. Yeah,

(36:14):
that's the other one anyway, UH getting getting back to Shack.
And they are in addition to the clave Ordin Agency
and they operate a course Indian Creek Farm, one of
the most successful farms in Kentucky when it comes to UH,
boarding horses and selling horses, and that's because they've got

(36:38):
great horsemen out there. Shacks are always ever done, has
worked with horses, and they know what they're doing. They
know how to take care of horses and they've raised, raised,
and boarded and sold many of the world's finest servers
down through the years. So if you want to have
them sell your horses for you or board your horses,

(36:58):
I recommend highly. So that's a Clayward agency in Parish, Kentucky,
and UH Indian Creek Farm, and the Indian Creek Farm
will go to the website, which is Indian Creek ky
dot com.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursua ellis.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
We've got a screen door here and there there's a
hole down at the bottom of it where it's pull.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
Which one is it.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
It's the the fancy one.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Oh, the Siamese is.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
A Siamese cat and he's peering out peering out the
door to Black Ones.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Oh, that's funny. And there was another tabby this morning. Yes,
we don't know who who works here in the office
during the week, but we bring a can of cat
food and if they stand out there and yell let me,
we give him another can of cat food.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
So yeah, so sweet look comes to Black One in
We're gonna be We're gonna it's gonna be a real
cat house here in a minute.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
I love it. I'm behind the door. I can't see him.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Oh God, I could gun all day without saying that. Well,
oh well, oh well, well the two big ones today,
of course, of the Haskell and the Coaching Club American Oaks.
It's been around a little bit longer because the Oaks.
It's probably the most important race other than the Kentucky

(38:31):
Oaks for three year old phillies. It's got a field
of six going today. Emercy is on the rail by
Niquist and Sweet Seraphine, the Quality Roads Scottish Lassie by McKenzie,
take chargement lady, but take charge of lady dry Powder
but gun Runner and on the outside of the Caribe Street.

(38:51):
Since so it's two of of them in there. Let's
see the Sweet Saraphine Scottish lastly, and we're both raised
on McCauley products. Another crown of ours. The Haskell's got
a field of eight. See what times the oats go off.
It goes off at five thirty eight and the Haskell

(39:12):
at five forty five, right right back to back Jackie
five thirty eight and five forty five with the two
big ones, I litle PD took what a look at me?
All that anyway, And the Haskell Journalism is going to
be the odds on favorite there because he's the son

(39:34):
of Colon and he's got the two tooth whole. Bracketbuster
is number one, while Crazy Night and his number three,
Burnham Square is number four, National Laws number five. Gostre
is number six. Kentucky out Loud is number seven and

(39:56):
gold Oriented is number eight. So those are the the
two biggies today. We'll get in some of these steaks
a little bit later on. I want to talk about
the coach of American Oaks, cause who uh horse with

(40:17):
the same name one or twice, not the same horse,
but the same name. We'll talk about it a little
bit later. Right now, we're gonna take care of coolmore.
We talk about Motown. He had a hell of a weekend.
Of course, Motown stands over to Ashford, Stun and each side.
The winners of stakes at Saratoga and Delaware last Thursday.

(40:40):
At Saratoga, the one hundred and fifty thousand dollar Rick
Violette Steaks who was won by Leon bluebrig by Ryl
Prude Holme and doctor Michael Gallavan. Sold at Saratoga for
a one hundred thousand dollars never had the money and
six career starts, Leon Blue has earned one hundred and
eighty four thousand, two hundred now. At Delaware, the one

(41:01):
hundred and twenty five thousand dollar ash In Beauty Stakes
one was won by mister Clay read by Piggy Costanzo
and sold for one hundred and thirty thousand at the
obis Mart Sale. Mister Clay is a good shipper, obviously,
and she's got a worldly talent. She's won eight steaks
at six different tracks, three of them are grated stakes,

(41:21):
and she's earned a million one hundred ninety seven thousand,
five hundred and forty two dollars. Other States winners from
his first three crops include Play the Music, a champion
female sprinter up in Canada, Key of Life, a graded
stakes winner at Keenan, Moustash another grade stakes winner at
Keenan Graded Stakes, Winter Classic, Motown Graded States winner, Accidental Hero, Maytown,

(41:44):
winner of the Pea Pat Stakes This the other Day
at elis Par. Seventeen stakes winners and thirty six stakes
horses in his first three cops. Fifteen percent of Motown's
runners have earned Black Type. So eating Black Type America
for your Motown one Grade two steaks in New York
as a two y old one Grade one steaks are
three on the grass. And he's my uncle Moe. Now

(42:08):
his fee has been five thousand dollars at the Ashford
stud I don't know see how they can. I don't
see how the didn't keep it at that. I mean
he's just sits for damn many runners and he's got
a great pedigree. He was a Greade one winner. Yeah.
But anyway, thing for you to do is call Ashford
stud to find out about that. Numbers eight seven three

(42:30):
eight eight five nine eight seven three seventy eighty eight
and the website is coolmore dot com. Doctor Bayer, doctor
Devien ron Walders ron Waldris has got a hearing. Yeah,
I understand him quite nice. Yeah, yeah, maybe okay. And

(42:57):
Jack here, you gotta do a quill in tax.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
Oh, good old quill in Tach. We were talking about
their new store yesterday. It's a treat to go in
that store. I mean it really is nice. The half
of it in front half is glassed into the back
half where you can watch them make all the stuff.

(43:21):
And I think if you order something maybe you want
a breast nameplate on it, you might talk them into
letting you. You don't get it fixed at the time.
And anyway, Oh, Quilling Leather Intact quality service leather goods
since nineteen eighty two. It's the nation's largest custom halter shop.

(43:46):
Twenty thousand plus halters a year ship worldwide. Quillent dot
com paris ninety seven oh two one five. Now they
don't make a paper catalog anymore. The bravest of the
cats is walked in. Now you're gonna to see where

(44:07):
we keep the cats food. Say, there's some cats old
about here in these barns, and they come and, uh
check it out and see what we're doing. Oh, now
the other one that's made of uh, they from the other.
Both of them are you know, inside now checking out everything.

(44:27):
Where's that cats?

Speaker 3 (44:28):
That one of them just went to the bathroom in there?

Speaker 2 (44:30):
No, that one, that one. So we're by the uh
went in the bathroom air conditioner, going to air conditions.
They're looking for the cans of cats.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
They're just there over behind me. Kitty kitty be out.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
And that's real funny.

Speaker 3 (44:45):
Oh, now here comes another one. We've got three cats in.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Oh, how funny. Oh that's one two. What's the third
one covering the other black?

Speaker 3 (44:55):
Yeah, yeah, he's gotting a little man on the totem boat.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
If you look at them and they eye contacted back up,
you don't like that, don't look at me. Who do
you think you are? Anyway? Quollan dot com. They don't
what you have to do is go to Quollin dot
com to see what they've got. They've got everything is
what they've got. But their halters are unreal. They have

(45:23):
every kind of halter. And when are the next sales?
They're coming up pretty quick, right, so they have they
make the best sales halters and shanks and stuff like
they've ever seen. They also have a really nice gifts
section and uh, we always got stuff out of there

(45:44):
for present. So call them up. Now, what time is
it right now? It's a quarter and nine night and
they open it nine today until three, and they always
have specials. So look them up. Quilling to UI l
Liam dot com in Paris nine eighty seven oh two

(46:08):

Speaker 3 (46:16):
No, they're still planning. I looked at it on the
screen door.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
Once you make eye contact, they moved.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
That's like they're all cat kind of wow. Yeah, if
you we'll get close to you while you're feeding them.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
Out there, don't they Yeah, they they're like cows.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
You go up and.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
Look at cow in the eye, they.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
Take off too.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
You don't want tom, They don't want to look at you.
They don't want you looking at them.

Speaker 3 (46:47):
So there's been a long time since I've looked at cow.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
And the eye that was one of our us red cows.

Speaker 3 (46:55):
We had a couple of milk cows when we lived
on Dixana Diner Shore. They call one of them Diner
Shore and the other one was I forget the name
of it, but it was another singer.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
One was of the Jersey and one were Gueranty and
they used to one of the kids that the Hutchins
family there. There were twelve of 'em. They split the
milk with us. Yeah, and I remember where they had.
They'd bring the milk up after they milk the cow, yeah,

(47:32):
and my mother would put them in a big crock. Yeah,
and it had cream on the top half an inch thick.
It looked like yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
Yeah. When when when I was sort of we got
milk delivered to.

Speaker 3 (47:49):
The door Diner Shore. I can't remember the name of
the other singer that was named I wake up in the.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Middle of night and tell you don't don't you do it? Wow.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
The last Saturday GoStream, the Azalea Stakes, was won by
Andrea three o fifths and the first cop by thousand words.
Thousand words stands at spend three Farm. Andrew was Brita

(49:32):
for more on the stands over spent three farm the
breeders farm called daz A Brown and Mark or Daniel
eight five nine two nine fours years zero thirty. Ticul
look at a website which is spendthriefarm dot com.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursul ellis
first arm and.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
Land specialists in a full time realtor. And he knows
because of his background and that he deals in two ideas,
the relator part and the farm land specialist part. He
knows his zoning and rags about land, state zoning and

(50:17):
local zoning and all that kind of stuff, because she
gets yourself in trouble if you go in and put
building up somewhere and somebody from somewhere comes along and
says take it down. So he's been a realtor for years,
Graduated from UK college business and at the same time

(50:38):
he's a licensed horse trainer in eleven states. Years of
experience with racehorses, deeple chasing, fox hunters, you.

Speaker 7 (50:49):
Name it, and.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
He really really well. You know, he's a volunteer at
the Paris Animal Welfare Society. You know that that's kind
of neat. Oh yeah, So anyway, he's turf Town Properties
in Lexington. And what I want to mention the thing
about buying a farm or whether it's just a cattle farm,

(51:15):
you know, with nothing ever really been done to it,
or it's an old horse farm or something you want
to go in the horse business. He's your guy because
he knows the questions to ask to figure out where
you put barns, where you store, hey, what you do
with all that kind of stuff and everything and that

(51:39):
kind of thing. There's one answer and every other guess
is wrong. Okay. For instance, are you going to breed? Okay?
The question is where are you going to put the
folling stalls? And people that don't know about that kind
of stuff, they don't go to the next step. Oh

(52:00):
falling stalls. You know, how many do you need? How
big are they? Where do they go? And now what
happens when you wean where do you first turn the
Marion Fort. There's tons of stuff that you have. You
don't know it until you've done it. And that's the truth.
So Hill Parker, he's he's the best, great.

Speaker 3 (52:22):
Guy to Yes, he is. He and his wife of
them rigging and been together in the real estate business
for a number of years now. And they do a
wonderful job for you because they know what the hell
they're doing. They work and they really work for you.
I mean they go the extra mile. And we've had
experience with that with him, and I recommend him, and

(52:45):
I wouldn't won't recommend any other real estate agents because
these people are not only they know what they're doing,
they do it the right way and they work walk
out extra mile for you. So that's here's how to
get in touch with him. I would go to the website,
which is Lexhorsefarms dot com and then you here's a

(53:08):
he'll cell number uh eight uh five nine six zero
eight eight zero thirty nine. That's Ellen Regan Parker lex
horse Farms dot com. All right, I would assume that

(53:32):
a man.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
Prine wald Rich oh Ers, oh.

Speaker 11 (53:38):
What about seven minutes?

Speaker 3 (53:40):
Hu he about seven, So you come about seven minutes,
missiy one to Well, that's right, he'll be right here
on time. Okay, Well we'll feel around and do something else.
For seven minutes.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
He was pointing out at something way point that these
yeah this a one oh cats it back that it's time.

Speaker 3 (54:08):
That time he has brought his shit's been the most
more than any of them. Yeah, coming and going in.
That's because the screen door is torn up down there,
and I guess they've probably tored us.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
No people did that reckon, Yeah, people always. It's amazing
people push on a screen when the wood part's right there. Okay,
it makes you cry.

Speaker 3 (54:33):
Oh, and take a look at a couple of steaks.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
That's a good idea that are coming on here.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
Pretty good, let's see. Uh of course, Uh, the big one,
the mam up is a Haskell. I talked about that
a little bit. They got the United Nations Stakes. It's
you know that. Uh, that was a I think it
originated in Atlantic City, the U the United Nations mistakes,

(55:01):
but it was open to horses around the world. And
when they first opened, I know that the Russians sent
a couple of horses. Really yeah, they ran like a
like the Russians do everything else. They screwed it up.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Yeah, oh well they were up the track, but yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
They're still running after all. These centers still running up
the track right, well anyway, but they've had some exciting
winnings and winters down through the wheel. Let's see who's
in it today. It's got a big field. Feel the twelve.

(55:43):
Let's see a horse name Corruption. That could have been
a Russian bread with a name like Corruption. He's got
the rails. Tony Point is number two to one hundreds
by Pioneer and now re restricting is Folding Great Britain.

(56:04):
And in his number three limited by liability by Kitten's
Joy getting joy of course. His top to North American
style is.

Speaker 11 (56:15):
And his.

Speaker 3 (56:17):
Top the leading turf showres for about five years, I believe,
but he is a good one. Grand Sonata by Mandala Medagliorro.
His number five boat No. In number six is a
nice horse, but the visierio stands over at drig stun

(56:39):
rebel red Folding Great Britain by the great race horse
Frankel starting over his number eight by Liam's Map. Number
nine is Major Dude by Boat Dire over Spencer Farm
number ten is get Smoking by gets Stormy, What a
nice stud or she was shot a lot of runners

(57:02):
gets Stormy. Lord Edward Stark is number eleven. He's had
enough business, sire. And Hush of a Storm by Creative
Cost is number nine. Let's see then they're running the
Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicapped Grade two goes over six thirteen

(57:26):
this afternoonistration number eleven. It's got a feel of eight
going in and there Scay is number one. It's a
really nice run of a practical joke. Practical joke as
over at Ashford stood in the Mischief leading Son had stood.

(57:47):
Then full Moon Madness in the Mischief is number two.
Then on three it's Damon's Mound by Gervin Gervin, a
very successful horse over Irdri stud Mullikin by Violence is
number four. Book Them Deno is about Bukado. There's number

(58:08):
five probably that's I don't know who's gonna yeah, that
horse will probably would be the favorite. Number six is
nash demanded dag Lameo and I'm not pronouncing that madaghlia Oro.
And number seven is a baby Yoda by Prospective and

(58:30):
Nakatomi is number eight by by Fire in line book
them demos. I think he won the Grade three True
North in his last race. The Shoe North was a
brilliant sprinter back in the in the nineteen forties. They

(58:52):
named the race after him. Uh scaley was He got
into a door in the Grade three Air Saturdays went
first fractions in twenty and four and forty three and four,
and that was one he could handle. There's not a
lot of speed in here, so he could have maybe

(59:15):
a better trip today. And they see they're running the
Molly Pitcher of Stakes at Mama today. It's to grade three.
It's got a field of nine candied by buck Pond Farm,
and here comes here comes my man rescuing me. Now, well,
look at those fancy fancies got on? Wow? Yeah? Did

(59:42):
you pick those? Bet or somebody? Did you? Mama? My wife?
Yes you got. I thought Mama would pick something like that.

Speaker 2 (59:50):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
Will do you golf at him? I don't think so.

Speaker 7 (59:55):
Now I got out of the short.

Speaker 2 (59:56):
So there's there.

Speaker 3 (59:57):
They're pale blue and they've got little Raceme. This is
all over them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Yeah, exactly, they're cute.

Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
Yeah, I'm not saying he's cute. All right, what are
we doing? Oh, I've got to do it. I mean
I've got to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
Oh hi, Betsy, it's nine o'clock. Daddy has still commercial
Yeah sets.

Speaker 7 (01:00:25):
Uh Airdrey Yeah, okay, I'm going to do that right now.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Okay, and then we're gonna get James Scully on.

Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
And he forgot his log.

Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
I did I forget my behind if it wasn't fastened on?

Speaker 9 (01:00:44):
Right?

Speaker 7 (01:00:45):
Did you have the air there is that air Drey?

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Yeah? I got to do an air Drey and then
we'll then we'll get to you and you can do
a bloodstock research and lovely people over there. The last
Saturday would bind. The ninety one thousand My Deer Stakes
was run by borders Are, two old folk in the
first crop by Bowleam, Britain, Kentucky. Borders Are had started

(01:01:10):
twice as one of both the My Deer Stakes by
two and three quarter lengths and she is the s
second stakes winner from the first crop. Uh Boleum have
been preceded by uh Lanelouch, one of the hundred and
fifty thousand detections for two days. That's the stakes that's
open states. It's not restricted through last Sunday. Boleum rank

(01:01:32):
second on the freshman side list there's the only sty
and that stood above him for twenty five thousand, and
of course Boleam stud feel over there. Every third is
six thousand, and he's the uh only freshman sire with
two stakes winners. But uh boleam is on Lim was

(01:01:52):
read by Stone Street Thirbit Holdings, and he was described
by Stone Streets John Monahan as an absolute free spending
six phaarlongs in UH one O eight and three in
his first start, the fastest six faarlongs recorded by Maiden
in the history of Churchill downs one two allowance races

(01:02:12):
in his next two starts, including turning in a buyer
three times of one hundred and six and one hundred
and seven, and what proved to be his final start,
he went a close second in the Akac stakes and
went amunt of one thirty three and four that day.
As a Churchill bo Liam he could fly and he's
passing on his brilliant speed. Bo Liam Is by liams Map,

(01:02:36):
winner of the Greade one Breeders cut during mile the
Great one Woodward and over one million, three hundred and
eighty five thousand, one of one hundred and eighteen stakes
winners by s. Sarah's unbridled song Now Liams math twenty
twenty five stud feet was forty thousand lives for more
on the stands of their disturnt It's called Shannon a
cow at eighty five nine eighty seven, three seventy.

Speaker 11 (01:03:03):
Yeah, Liams, Matt's getting some runners, that's for sure. He's
really had a good year as a sire and he's
got Burnham square in today's task. We'll so it's him
with the chance. I want to tell you all first
off about Bloodstock Research Information Services bristinet dot com. It's
your source of thurbred racing information. We have past performances

(01:03:26):

handicapping reports for all North American tracks, whether it's tip
sheets analysis, we have fair Odds reports and more. Also
have subscription plans for handicapped software, pedigree information and more.

(01:03:48):
Check out briston at dot com The Handicapper's Edge.

Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
All right, Damn, who do you like in what race today?

Speaker 11 (01:03:57):
They got to Haskell today. I'm gonna have Goscar. He's
gonna have to keep stepping up from the pre neuse.
But I do like Goskar, because I think he has
an upward profile. You know, we've seen these horses come
along and every once in a while to some three
year olds just aren't ready for the Derby and they're

(01:04:17):
behind them a ball in the sense early in the year.
But then they get real good over the summer and
into the fall can hold their own against the better
three year olds early in the year. It doesn't happen
every year. Last year the top three in the Breeders
Cup Classics Seria Leone, Fierce Since and Forever Young. They
were winning Derby preps and all of them were in
the derby itself. But this year there's a this Goskar.

(01:04:42):
There's actually a couple of these horses in there, once
for Bafford glorying it. The other one's Goscar. They weren't
ready for the Derby. Came along right around May and
jumped into the Triple Crown and the Preakdnuts, And I
really thought that Goskar, who broke his maiden the second
time out out in February at Goldstream, and then he

(01:05:02):
came back two months later and won the Lexington and Keenlan.
He ran really well visually in those two wins, but
they weren't fast performances. Well, he stepped up with the
fast race and the prenus and journalism ran him down.
I mean he was you know, he lost several lents
and had trouble in the stretch, so you got to
give journalism on the credit. But he was also much

(01:05:24):
more seasoned, had much more foundation, and was much more
of a finished product than Goscar was. So I think
he might. I think he may have another step forward
in him, and I like his tactico ability and I'm
gonna give him the edge and the prenuse. Journalism is
the horse the bead, and if he shows up with
his best and these horses like especially Oscar and Goal

(01:05:45):
worrying it, don't keep moving forward significantly, then yeah, he'll
probably win. He's gonna be odds on, but he definitely
has some other rivals go worrying it. It's been training
really well for Baffert. He won a mile on a
sixteenth allowance on every day and he had trouble in
the pretetness and still ran fourth. So he's in with
the chance. Burnham squares in with the chance as well.

(01:06:10):
He's coming off a good second in the matt Win
where there was no pace in there, and then Bracketbuster,
he's stepping up a little bit off of a win
in the peg Atsys and even uh Kentucky Outlaw's in
there with hid one of the long branch two backup Mamas.

Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
So good race, Yeah, good race.

Speaker 11 (01:06:32):
Mama's also has the Hat School is a million dollar race.
But Mama has five other steaks, four of them graded
on the undercard and those are worth like one point
eight million, and the and the graded race has got
pretty good fields. The matchmaker has a good group of horses.

(01:06:52):
Just the touch is in the Mamouth Cup.

Speaker 5 (01:06:55):
Uh the.

Speaker 11 (01:06:57):
The uh Molly Pitcher got dorth Vader who just won
the Ogden Phipps and some other nice phillies in there,
Phillies and mayors and then the United Nations. That's the
main that's the race before the Haskell. It's a big
turf RaSE at Mama Park and that got a good field.
I like limited liability in there for Shugmy Gayhee, the

(01:07:18):
four horse. He's got some good rivals and redistricting and
radio red, but I'm gonna give the edge the limited
liability and the United Nations. Saratoga has a trio of
graded states. They got the Caress at five and a
half furlongs on turf. They got the Grade one Coaching

(01:07:40):
Club American Oaks, and I really that's the second race
back from immersive cars in there off of a big
win in the Acorn. Got some others, but I like,
take Charge my Lady in there for Kenny McPeak. I
think she's really coming on right now. So I'm going
with take Charge my Lady and the Coaching Club American Oaks.
And then the their big race Saratoga is the Vanderbilt,

(01:08:02):
which is a big time. Ray's got a really good field.
It's pretty wide open. Uh, book them, Dano mullikin, Uh
you got uh Nakatomy's the defending champion there. Even Baby
Yoda I think is in with the shot for Bill Mott.

(01:08:23):
So that's that's a good race of Saratoga. And then
Delmar opened yesterday. They had ten races, big field, spot
turf races that are never really in jeopardy of going
off the turf like Saratoga, and uh, this is today.
They got the Wicker. That Wicker is a Miles Steaks.
I think it's race eight. I like Astronomer in there.

(01:08:46):
I do have a horse in the wicker astronomer and
then the other one is the same is the Delmar
is the Saint Clemente for three year old turf phillies.
But Delmar really starts going next weekend. They got the
San Diego. You'll have nicos in there and others and yeah,
so really I thought last weekend was pretty slow, but

(01:09:08):
a lot of good racing going on this weekend even
Oh yeah, yeah, I went to the Breeders Cup there
and I visited in twenty seventeen, and then I visited
two other times.

Speaker 7 (01:09:22):
During the summer.

Speaker 11 (01:09:25):
Yeah, it was like it's pretty cool.

Speaker 9 (01:09:28):
You can walk around on the first.

Speaker 11 (01:09:29):
Floor there and all along the walls and the grand stand.
They just had photos of del Mar of like the
history and you have like lots of photos of being crossby.
It was like instrumental and opening it. So you'll see
lots of photos of like Charles Howard and Sea Biscuits
trainer owner and trainer and Sea Biscuits. I mean he

(01:09:53):
raced there at Delmar. They got photos of it and
pictures and and then you know, you just get into
like a whole like slew of celebrity photos as well.

Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
You know, it was good. Last time I was there.
Shoemaker had the plug.

Speaker 11 (01:10:09):
Yeah, Shoemaker didn't ride there a lot because.

Speaker 7 (01:10:15):
They yeah, oh yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 11 (01:10:17):
They had a period like maybe in the sixties, you know,
after being as was passed or you know it was
maybe him passed when he was old and where it
sort of just like fell out of favor. Like horsemen did.
A lot of horsemen from up in the city weren't
Los Angeles, weren't sending horses in the racing there. Got

(01:10:40):
a little bit like and the other thing was all
these jockeys, Shoemaker and Picaan, all these guys they went
to Arlington, and so when Santa Anita closed in the summer,
they went to Arlington. Yeah, and raced a lot of
them did during del Mar and they might come in
and ride Stone makes a del Mar, maybe ride a

(01:11:02):
weekend here or there. But yeah, there's a guy like
Farrell Jones who's like won a bunch of riding titles
there and he's like never ridden a champion.

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
You know.

Speaker 7 (01:11:12):
It was like winning riding.

Speaker 11 (01:11:13):
Titles at Turflay or something. You know, you know, Russell
Bays at up and Upstate California where the racing just
wasn't that good there for I mean it it sort
of fell out of favor after the early years, and
then it really came back into favor, you know, and
now it's like the best thing going. I mean, they

(01:11:34):
got one hundred thousand dollar maiden races and big purses
and a great ship in your Wind program. So they
got a lot of horses that are coming in town
just to run at del Mar. And if you have
a turf horse, you could do worse. I think can
go there because you know, we saw it yesterday at Colonial.
They were off the turf yesterday at Colonial.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (01:11:57):
You know, you get a lot of rain, and he's
got nowadays, you know it. I mean I've been going
to Saratoga since like the eighties and you know, one
year up there didn't rain except on a couple of tuesdays.
This year yeah on Travers Travers weekend.

Speaker 9 (01:12:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:12:14):
But the yeah, but but now it rains every week,
every week. I mean, they don't ever go a week
without it. And it was like it was a it
was like, you know, it was a four week session
back in those days, so it wasn't like two months
like it is now almost. But they had Yeah, they

(01:12:35):
had no rain, they had no races off the turf.
Ran every turf race, and they had seventeen turf races
scheduled Friday, Saturday, and Sunday last weekend, and they ran
they scratched thirteen of them.

Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
So cloud seeding.

Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
It's rain right now. Is Mama's at Atlantic City? No,
where is it north of that? Well anyway, New Jersey's
getting a.

Speaker 11 (01:13:04):
Lot of rain, and I haven't seen the forecast.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
From there, but Saratoga is not.

Speaker 11 (01:13:12):
Yeah, Saratoga looks good today. There's chances there's a chance
to rain tomorrow in the afternoon.

Speaker 7 (01:13:18):
Yeah, but they had they had their best week.

Speaker 11 (01:13:22):
I can remember a long time where they haven't lost
any tour races. So I ran every race on the
turf so far. This week they're gonna be all on
the turf today. Tomorrow we'll see what happens. They could
be in jeopardy yep. And then next week we also
at the Jim Banni, which is Sovereignty is going to
be in there running Baiza. It's gonna ship in from

(01:13:45):
California and take him on.

Speaker 7 (01:13:47):
So it's like a walkover.

Speaker 11 (01:13:50):
At least he's got a quality rival next Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Yeah, no, I just wonder.

Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
It's a great day right down to it.

Speaker 11 (01:14:00):
And then the week after that's the Whitney, which will
be a real good race. Fierce Sens is aiming for that.
Why to borrow perhaps, I mean it's going to be
a good race Whitney.

Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
No, no, it's good because we'll Michael and yeah, there
could be three of you on.

Speaker 11 (01:14:23):
Both going up there for the Whitney.

Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:14:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
Week Why they pit week, right, why they pick.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Sales week?

Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
They go to the Travelers. You know they have.

Speaker 9 (01:14:36):
The sales up there.

Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
Well, that's true, so I think that might be the sales.

Speaker 11 (01:14:41):
Yeah, that'd be our border one of the weekend's quarter
of the weekend. Alrighty, well, it's good to see all.

Speaker 7 (01:14:49):
It's always have good rest.

Speaker 11 (01:14:50):
Of your weekend. Enjoy the racing today too.

Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
They start like at noon. One of them goes up
right after noon.

Speaker 11 (01:14:58):
Yeah yeah, yeah, really long. They got a lot of races,
and mom and I think Saratoga starts at twelve thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
That's it, twelve thirty. Somebody had said that before. We
thank you, James, that's fine, take care all right, thanks
for coming in.

Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
Tell your wife I loved your shore. How well, okay, well,
I can't recall every riding a commercial featuring the first
time starting two year old, but here we go July
thirteenth and would bind two Out Hero a two year
old quote by war Front Breton, Kentucky. By course of

(01:15:38):
third bread broke is maiden by twelve lengths and an
eighty four thousand dollars Maiden special. And listening to this
quote from the official charge of the race, two Out
Hero sees control right from the outset under a snug hole,
dictated the pace unchallenged, down the backside, opened up at
wheeled around the bend, continue to increase the margin down

(01:16:01):
the lane under only mile hand ride and was geared
down for the dominant win. So here comes another Warfront,
I mean, there's always another warfrond war Funderside going on
one hundred and twenty stakes winners, and he's the number
one side by lifetime percenting to the stakes winners and
graded stakes winners. He is one of one hundred and

(01:16:23):
ninety eight stakes winners by Danzig, and both Danzig and
Warfront still their entire careers. It's clevering farm. Warfront is
still a clevering going strong where he has been drain
by Grade one winning son Annapolis, whose first folds arrived
this year. Now, Annapolis is a you really need to
go out and take a look at him to appreciate him.

(01:16:44):
He's a super individual. When they tell me his first
fools are great. Annapolis was one graded station, was unbeaten
at two and one Grade one stakes, at three one
stakes again at four you earned a million five one
hundred and eighty one thousand dollars. Come from a great
female family. For instance, his damn won great Stakes, runs
second in the Kentucky Oaks and earned over six hundred

(01:17:06):
thousand dollars. For more on the Claven stands called Jacob
West eighty five nine nine eight seven two three three
oh and the website is clavernfarm dot com. Hope well
insureds our good friends.

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Absolutely. When we first moved to Bourbon County thirty plus
years ago, we checked around with friends. Of course they
knew quite an humber of people in Bourbon County, but
they're so kind of you know, what do you where
do you get your insurance and all that kind of stuff.

(01:17:43):
All said Hope. Well, so Ursa went over and had
a talk with Ted McClain and we've been doing business
ever since. They are absolutely satisfying. It's it's wonderful. And
they're an independent insurance agency. I think this is important.

(01:18:06):
There are insurance companies out there that spend a gazillion
dollars on ads and stuff and they're worldwide and all that.
When you get too big, you get too impersonal and
you're just a number. But not these people. They're an
independent insurance agency. They don't work for a big, mega

(01:18:29):
mega company. They work for you. So what they did
and what they do is they look around for and
carefully selected group of financially sound, reputable companies so they
get the best coverage at the best price, and they
can give you a no cost, no obligation review in

(01:18:52):
comparison of your insurance. So they're really super. The hope
Well company is in perished.

Speaker 7 (01:18:59):
They've been in business.

Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
It's nineteen fifty five, and that ought to tell you something.
I mean, if they weren't, they wouldn't be doing it right.
That's how you you really look a company that's been
forever and you know they're doing it right. So their
phone number, give them a call locally in Paris nine
eight seven two three four seven, nine eight seven, which

(01:19:22):
is about everybody two three four seven or better yet
stop by the offices a twenty Main Street in Paris. Uh,
they're in. There's never a we're not in now or
we're whatever a twenty main Street in Paris of a
great job for you.

Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
All right, Well, let's see. Let's take a look at
some of Kentucky bread winners from last weekend and in
some distance this week as far as that goes, so
let's tall. We will start on this and while we

(01:20:04):
doctor would come along pretty soon for pretty probably. But anyway,
the great one half a million dollar Gianna Steakes, Diana
Stakes and Saratoga went to excellent truth in Irishbred Philly
we got doctor. Oh okay, well I've got to tell
him something. I guess you saw, Doc that your stood

(01:20:28):
horse had two steaks winners over the weekend, well last Wednesday,
Wednesday Thursday.

Speaker 13 (01:20:36):
Yes, I saw that. I knew about one of them.
And then one of my one of my friends, had
sent me the ad about him. And I didn't know
about the first one. Knew about that Philly with him,
I didn't know about the other one.

Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
Well, let's see when one of them one in Delaware
and other where the other one win town. Let's see,
uh Saratoga.

Speaker 5 (01:21:06):
Oh that's a good yeah, two good ones versus Saratoga.

Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 5 (01:21:13):
Yeah, I didn't know that one was the Saratoga end,
So I would sure love to run at Saratoga someday
with somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
Well, this horse is you know, he's sorry seventeen six
winders now ye, fifteen percent of his runners of everned
black type, so they might if he even places and
wanted to move your may up.

Speaker 9 (01:21:43):
She you know, she's gotta.

Speaker 14 (01:21:46):
I told her the other day, I said, don't know
where your baby's doing, but he looked pretty good by
the time I saw him, so she probably doesn't want
to have another knowing her. I talked to this dude
yesterday because I am. I finally taught my first class
this year. They come back early because they leave after
Thanksgiving the first two years here, and uh, they're starting

(01:22:09):
to get anything together. So still during the sales as
close as I got, but they're looking at their test
schedule to go ahead, trying to get up there. So
they're they're already getting excited.

Speaker 9 (01:22:23):
And me too.

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Yeah, Well, what anything special going on at Mississippi State.

Speaker 9 (01:22:30):
Now, no, we've been pretty quiet. This is the time
of year we start seeing this summer past year associated asthma,
so we've been having that come in. It's just as
terrible disease because it's you know, the most severe heaves
type stuff you see, and you know it hits them
in the hottest part of the summer, because we've had

(01:22:52):
our hottest day of the year was this week and
and when of them came in that day, and so
we start seeing that all of our pneumonias live. So
we had a fold it was pretty sick, but it
went home and had a man had proved in their
chest and she went home. So what I was going
to talk about today is when I went to that
meeting in Ruble, I wanted to talk was about the

(01:23:15):
warmers and worms. And you know the big thing is
they're still no new d warmer that anybody has this coming.
So unfortunately we're kind of stuck with what we have
and the worms have gotten pretty good at figuring out
what we have. And it was good just to hear

(01:23:36):
somebody talk about it as an expert. But a couple
of the take homes were that them buddies all, which
you know, we've used that for years, that safeguard or
panic here, and it really has no effogency anymore against
a warm called the small strong Chile and that's the
most common worm they have that that worm are little

(01:24:00):
blood worms who has kind of people came with the seat,
I mean a little maybe an inch long and blood
red when they come out if you see one, which
isn't that often. But those worms migrate through the lining
of the large intestine. So when they do that, they
can cause damage. They can insist in the lining of
the colon for up to two years. So they'll sit

(01:24:21):
there and nobody knows what triggers them, but all of
a sudden they'll decide that, okay, it's time to wake
up and become an adult worm. And so when they
do that, the other damage that doesn't get again when
they come out, and so them bait has all expire,
been around the longest of the ones we used. Essentially
why it doesn't kill them anymore, and that's painker.

Speaker 5 (01:24:42):
POWERPA call them. It really doesn't work all that well
against them, So we almost have to throw that one
out if we're working on that worm, and the other
thing that's happened, and there's only been in Kentucky, but
there no well that's what that's what the experts said too,
that in Kentucky they've found on some farms that the

(01:25:03):
tape arms have gotten resistant to the tape arm drugs
that we use. That's in if you use quest plus
or you use Ivory making gold, it has a drug
called cosey quintal in it, which you know in small
animals that was a pretty standard drug to kill they
have forever to kill tapeworms. But the equine tape arms,

(01:25:27):
at least in Kentucky, has begun to show some resistance
to that, which is the pretty big news because we
didn't think that they were ill one that would they
would be too likely to do that. So they those
worms can cause and you don't see us very often,
but they can. They live in the in the iliam,

(01:25:48):
which is the far into the small intestine right where
it dumps in the large intestine, so they can affect
how that area moves and potentially cause uh feed impacts
and in there even somes that go get stuck inside
of itself in there that you know, I can't say
that I saw much of that Kentucky seems seeing that
more down here. But you know, tapeworms are starting to

(01:26:11):
get resistant, so I trying to go to drugs anymore.
And still the quest which is boxing decks and but
even that drug, they're begin to have some resistance too.
And one of the first things that that worms will
do when they start get resistant is the time from

(01:26:33):
you do you worm a horse and then how long
it takes those eggs to start being where you can
find them and the horses miner called the egg reappearance
period is when they start getting resistant, they will shorten
up just the worms can figure it out and reproduce faster.
And we've shortened that down from you know, about ninety

(01:26:53):
days and that drug first came out to now it's
down around six and eight weeks. So we have to
be really careful that the warmers we have at work.
And yeah, the only way really that we we have
to do that is de worm less. You know, if
you're going to kind of closed herd like me, you know,
I just do it twice a year, and in old friends,

(01:27:13):
we just do it twice a year. Or if you're
in a farm situation, Uh, you can get click when
they're on your on the horses, and to only produce
a low number of eggs, which we've decided that's two
hundred eggs per gram, and then they can measure that
all the local hospitals for you. Because they're under two hundred,
you don't need to deworm those horses. So what you

(01:27:36):
want to do is maintain we're a low number of worms.
They're still susceptible to the de warmers that you may use,
and probably and the best way to do that again,
just see what their eggs per gram count is. If
it's low, don't even deworm them. So for sure, we
don't want to do like we used to do, or
de wor them every two months or something different, because

(01:27:59):
a lot reformers don't work anymore and it promotes resistance.

Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
Well, I guess i'm working free because I take I
have a Mexican.

Speaker 9 (01:28:12):
Well you may have consistent it works.

Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
Yeah, don't don't be eating any specie.

Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
Yeah. Oh goodness. Okay, well all right, well this would
we got a roll, So I'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 9 (01:28:29):
All right, thank you, see you, says back.

Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Good one. Well, first crap two years by Modernists sold
for three hundred and ten thousand, three hundred thousand, two
hundred and tens out one hundred and thirty one hundred
and thirty, one hundred and twenty one hundred and ten
thousand and twenty twenty five. Now that's a terrific profit
because it stood for just five thousand fold. I say
has been because the way they're coming out running, I

(01:28:54):
don't know if we're going to be five thousand next year.
Maybe you just called Stuart fitz given today out of
Darby Dam seven first cop youngsters by Modernists have started

Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
All right, I want to talk about Sally Van's for
a few minutes. They've been in business, good lord, since
I was a kid. Whoop, And anyway, that's a long
time ago.

Speaker 3 (01:39:57):
Geez.

Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
Anyway, many of the greatest runners having to step on
a racetrack, I've been entrusted to their care. And I
was watching some sports I guess it was Panda or
something yesterday and I saw another famous horse get off
of sally Van. And that's pretty indicative when there's and

(01:40:21):
people from here ship to places like Saratoga and Mamoths
with all those big steaks and stuff. They ship in
a sally Van because it's obvious they're brigs and everything.
They're in tiptop shape. The single most important safety factor

(01:40:44):
is the person behind the wheel. They're drivers, and they're
very proud of their drivers at sally Van because they're twofer.
You get an experienced van driver and an experienced horseman,
and that's a winning combination. So think about that the
next time you ship your horse across the county or

(01:41:05):
the country. You know, I saw one ad one day
and it was justified getting off of sally Van, and
I think it was probably at Churchill. Anyway, it's there
you can trust them. So when you load your horse
into a Sally Van you can depend on the fact

(01:41:27):
person behind the whell was one of the best in
the business, and people at Sally Horse Vans wouldn't have
it any other way. That's why for more than half
a century Sally Vans two five to five ninety four
oh six the safest way to the Winter Circle.

Speaker 3 (01:41:47):
Alrighty well, I'm in the mood for a little Joe Palmer,
so I want to read me too. Yeah, I don't
often have time to do it, but district This is
written by Joe Palmer, who passed away at age forty eight.
I know it, yeah, back in the I think it
was in nineteen fifty. Anyway, mention has been made here

(01:42:10):
of a man who found founded a fortune and a
racing stable on a successful seventeen to one shot at
Latonia when his youth. This tale, equally well vouched far,
but minus names, is different. The hero owned a photo
finishing business and is somewhat out of the way spot
over in Jersey, and he used only two floors of

(01:42:32):
his three story building. Came to him a bookmaker who
thought the third floor would make an excellent spot for
a wireroom, and offered to rent it for a price.
Which would maintain the whole building. The photo finisher investigated,
found that the bookmaker paid his bills and was kind
to his family, and it was a deal. The two ultimate,

(01:42:53):
and they became quite chummy. The main business of the
wireroom was the supplying of infant to ten or twelve
horse rooms in the area. But the bookmaker, being of
fifty turn of mine, had a wire room of his own,
and he youngst did to take bets over the phone. Naturally,

(01:43:14):
the kid did some betting himself, putting markers into the
drawer in order to avoid the trouble of collecting his salary.
One day he came at the landlord with a proposition.
He had figured out a six horse robin to go
for sixty dollars, and he wanted his host to go
for half. Go away, he was so, I never bet

(01:43:35):
on a race horse in my life, but temptation is insidious.
There was, at the moment working on the firm's books,
an auditor from the photo Finisher's finisher knew to be
an amateur of the running horses. Go doesn't see what
this kid's got, suggested the man who has never bet
on a race horse, See if he knows what he's doing.

(01:43:58):
The order to climb the stairs and poured over the
past performances for a while, studying horses and a half
dozen tracks. Wouldn't give you a nickel for those horses.
Singly or collectively decided, what are you seeing them? Well,
I've been studying horses for a long time, said the clerk,
who was all of twenty, And all of these horses

(01:44:20):
just win without rhyme or reason. You can't see anything
in their last race, I the one before that, but
I think they're ready to win. You got a tip
on them or anything? No, no tips. I just think
they're any So report was duly made old hell, said
the phono finisher. I want to get rid of this kid.

(01:44:40):
I'll give him thirty dollars and forget it. The bookworker
came to a little came in a little later and
saw the slip and the till. He went back downstairs
to find the landlord. Look here, he said, how do
you think i'd drive a big automobile and own a
home and live. Hye, it's on two dollars and five
dollar bills. That's rucker has been on race horses. Now,

(01:45:01):
don't you go out and add yourself to them, I
want to rent the building, not on it. Now, here's
your thirty dollars back, and you you still got to
bet going no, said I hear it to bet they
won't kill me. Let it ride. He went back to
help the Auto two with the books. A little later
the news was brought that the first horse had won

(01:45:24):
at twenty eight eighty. The order team began to get
a little spotty. After second at one at a slightly
larger price, it was suspended all together. Now a six
horse round robin involved fifteen parlayds. We won't go into
the details, but you see the odds even if the
horses are solid favorites, and which they weren't. Man I

(01:45:47):
Knew got a simple three horse parley and to the
third horse twice in his life. First time the first
final horse was sunbowt once the world was leading money
with him. The second time it was Equipoet, one of
the greatest of all time. They both got beat. But
this six hours round rule and stood up all afternoon.

(01:46:08):
Windows kept coming in, and it proved that the twenty
eight to eighty number was the shortest price of the lot.
The pyramidic total goods so high that both the better
and both the betters got scared. With one horse to gold,
they telephoned the book marker to tell him how much
was riding. This was a kind hearted but not forward

(01:46:29):
looking step, because as a matter of protection, the book
bet pretty strongly on the horse himself and probably knocked
the price down a little. When the final winter was
in the auditor had to be taken off the books
again to figure that the whole take. The man who
had never bet on a razo said he would take
one thousand dollars for his share, though he was entitled

(01:46:51):
considerably more, and he stuck to it. The klerk took
all of his man who wouldn't chance his arm remark
the auditor, looking at the money, that's the most expensive
thousand dollars you ever made. Why so quietness climb? As
soon as you get used to that money, you begin
to wonder how long this has been going on? Was answered,

(01:47:13):
Then you'll be a horse player, not me. I'm through
right now. No more horses. This was in the summer.
The next window of the bookmaker was still doing business
in the third floor, log and driving a car with
a white wall tired. The kid was back up there
taking bets on the phone and putting his own slips

(01:47:35):
in the till to avoid collecting his salary. The Phone
of Furniture was spending the season in Florida. He wired
back three times for money. That's fun. Yeah, white Wall tired. Yeah, well,
we've got to talk a little bit about our friends.
At the third bed training, he said, well, I want

(01:47:55):
to mention something. You know, they're running the coach Travel
American Oaks today and did you know that Wistful won
it twice? No, how do you win an oak twice?
Because she did. She won in nineteen forty nineteen, uh seventeen,
and in nineteen forty nine. The first winner, the first

(01:48:21):
winner was Wistful to win. It was by star Shoot,
who stood wood Hamburg Chlacier, who was great sire as
far as that goes, and out of Americ name Whitfeld
was mirthful and Whitfold. She was also examba of a
pretty good horse named the Clown, who won the Latonia
Derby now the Latonia Derby. Back at that time it

(01:48:42):
was worth it was an important race. Yes, so it
was pretty good, but uh, the word first whistle was
not much of a well. She had five fours and
four winners, but no black type horses. The second wistful
was my Son Again and she was read by came
at Farmers and she won the Coaching Club American Oaks

(01:49:04):
in nineteen forty nine. And she's a little different stores.
She was out an easy last. It was the brood
Mary of the year because in addition to Whistle, she
follows a really sensational horse named a coal Town. Whistle
was my Son Again, which coal Town was a babull
lead and this he was one of the fastest horses.

(01:49:28):
I was so I saw him win the Bluegrass out here.
I thought he was gonna win the Derby. I was wrong.
But even the only reason he went second was because
he was in with an entry of citation and one
of the all time greats. But cold Town, my god
see equal the track record in the highly Air for
six furlongs and nine and three set a new track.

(01:49:48):
Crek Clan form Island and eighth in one forty nine
and one equal the world record highly Air for miland
eighth one forty seven and three equal the world record
a Ghost in Park from out on the Quarner one
fifty nine and four. I saw him do that, by
the way. Uh, the new track record oft Darlington and

(01:50:09):
Madlin and eighth and one forty eight and four and
a new set of new world record in Washington Park
in one thirty four and equal the track work I
got Hollywood Park two won six fourlongs in ninety one,
so so uh easy whistle the mayor was in addition

(01:50:30):
to the the was out an easy last, but blend
him an easy last also, of course, I was just
explained cold town. U. She was also the name of
Rosewood the bull Lea married one of black Hellen and
the Swania River and Amssy Island and produced three steaks winners,
one by bowl ruler, one by national, one was swap.

(01:50:51):
She produced h fanfare. They won a Derby trial and
uh theree which was first foe. Uh she just had
the one stakes. She was a thro champion three o'
philly by the way, and uh her first foe was

(01:51:11):
General Duke. And that's the horse I saw set a
world record at uh Gholstream Park. He did it in
the Florida Derby and he was that he was a
great that great crop of uh. Uh bowl ruler and
round table and uh the derby window General General Duke

(01:51:34):
and the goat the one the one to win the
derby after goot cave that horse. But anyway, I saw,
I saw General Duke. But when the Winter Florida Derby
and new world record time down there beat bowl Ruler
that day. And uh, unfortunately, although he was favorite for
the derby, when he came back up to Kentucky, he

(01:51:58):
turned out to be a wobbler.

Speaker 2 (01:52:00):
And uh is that right?

Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
Yeah, they had to put him down. U Uh, you know,
he's just yeah, you couldn't save 'em. They they've got
the treatment for that now that they can represent a
pretty good percentage to the And that's just what to
do with the nervous system for some reason, or know
that the the vats u you know, the vets now
is better than them the doctors around here. And yeah,

(01:52:27):
so but anyway, that was the story of uh a
wistful and let's see what else I've gotta do. We've
got to take care of our friends over right here
at the training center. And if you don't know where
the Thirdbor Training Center is, it's s You come out

(01:52:49):
to Paris Pike, you go past the country club there
and go over up about a mile it's right there
on the right, and it's got a great reputation is
a place to train horses because been a lot of
runners come out here, a lot of good trainers come
out of here, and uh s getting stalls. M unless

(01:53:13):
you're a regular out here, it's it might be a
little bit difficult to do that, but uh the thing
to do is to give 'em a call. If you
just got you know, a couple of horses you're looking
for saws for get a call together training center, call
eight five nine two nine three, eighteen fifty three and
ask that they've got any name. If they say no,

(01:53:35):
ask if they know that, uh, anybody that would sublieze
a couple of stalls to you. And they may know,
they may not, but uh you can always just walk
through the barns and and uh ask the people who
rent have the barns down there if they've got a
couple of saws they could subliez because they've still got

(01:53:56):
if the stalls are empty, they still have to pay
rent on it, right, so you can you can talk
to them and I'll tell you what if you just
got a couple of urlines or something like that, you
didn't get them started right out here, because they've got
everything you need to take it from bringing them here
to get him to the starting gate. They've got a

(01:54:21):
mile track, but the best thing is start them out
on the lower track, which is five ahs of a mile,
until they get going pretty good, and then you can
move them up where the action is. They've got a
starting gate, and they've got an excellent crew out here.
They've got an official clocker who does a whole lot

(01:54:41):
better job than I did when I was doing it.
I did it for ten years.

Speaker 2 (01:54:47):
Huh, and I got huh, I was helping. I didn't
realize I was helping such a mess. I thought we
did real well.

Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
Sorry I was being modest. Oh, anyway, it was. I
enjoyed the hell out of it. I started out while
I was still doing training and then good training, and uh,
just sit there and did the clock and learned a lot.
And I got to see a lot of nice houses.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
One thing I learned is how good that track actually is. Yeah,
cause so I don't know how many horses breezing during
that ten years, And I bet I didn't in the
whole time, didn't see four or five breakdowns. Yeah, you know,
it's it's a great track. They've also got uh grass
gallops out here if you wanted that. And the it's

(01:55:41):
a it's a atmosphere out here. It's quiet, horses do
well and you can graze them, you know. And uh,
the star rent Is is very reasonable, so give him
a call out here. Let me give it. It's two
nine three eighteen fifty three. So that's the Thurber Training
Center right here on the Paris Pick and I've been

(01:56:05):
giving the signal. It's time to sign off. So thanks
for listening and we'll talk to you next week. Happy train.
