Yeah, I just you know, it's the last thing I
knew need is to get see. I had a dermatologist

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Who's that?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Sean Washington? Oh, Seawan Cotts called me, Yeah, you know
and Uh, completely out of the blue, this is Sean Washington.
Why are you calling me? Said, Well, sitting there with
this guy and we got to talking about you, and
he didn't believe me when I said I knew.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
You, so.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know words to that effeith Anyway.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Well, Sean uh texted me last night he was going
to be here, but he's got some kind of something
came up and he's in New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Oh he is.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, you know, his tour business and his business takes
this a big going concern. Now it's a big deal.
So I don't know, no telling what he's doing in
New Jersey. Maybe we were not supposed to know. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Well, maybe he's got a girlfriend up there.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah. Yeah, it's like I said, were about we don't
want the files to get out about that. I hope
he was listening today, yeah, or I hope missus Washington
was not listening to you boys are going to get
us some trouble here. I know we're starting out. The
lawyers are probably already on their way.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
And let's not include the stuff that didn't make it
on the air prior.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Oh yeah, exactly. I hope. Well, the recorder wasn't on
when we were talking earlier. I was talking to the
people in Georgetown. I was down at Fava's and and uh,
Georgetown and and Sean Washington's name. I heard it. I
heard it. I was eavesdropping and somebody said Sean Washington,
(07:14):
and and the comment that they made or so was
that they took one of Shawn's tours and so we
hadn't stopped smiling. Sense. Yeah, that that that Sean can
just weave a story, whether it's totally accurate.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Or not is yeah, yeah, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
He makes he gets your your money's worth and then
and then some. And I'm so happy he's working. You know,
he working with us at old Friends.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Oh yeah, but you know, Seawan's great. You never know
what he's gonna show up, you know, so you got
with keeps us on our toes. But uh, you know
his he just makes his tours so lively, and you
know it's you know, he's flexible. You know, he'll be
(08:07):
everybody want to stop and get a drink somewhere, you know,
and you know, an adult drink somewhere, you know, and
it's well, we'll just do it. And and by the
end of the day, everybody's just happy and joined themselves
and everything else.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah. But I was titulard to call me d Yeah,
and I like for him to come in here because
he's very entertaining guy. He's been around forever.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, he he has in his family has been around it,
you know, I know he's and he's very close to
the Madden family. Uh and and has been for years.
It's that's how I met Sean was from Anita. Yeah,
and and I knew Preston and Anita. At the horse park,
(08:49):
Anita revived her derby party, those famous derby parties. You
know they ended out there at ham you know, the
old Hamburg farm. Yeah, and she wanted to revive it,
and she revived it at the horse Park. And she
came and said, would you would you you know, would
like to host the uh my derby parties. And I said,
(09:11):
that'd be a wonderful thing for the horse park, Miss Madden,
I would love that, but I need to I need
to say this now. You know, your parties were colorful
and had a lot of interesting things, you know, past midnight.
We can't have a lot of those things go on
at the horse park now that's it's a state owned institution.
(09:32):
Family orient and so forth and so on. And she said, honey,
I don't want you to worry about anything like that.
I know exactly what you mean, and you don't have
a thing to worry about. And the glorious tint was
set up and all the you know, the movie stars
were there, the glitz and the glamour, and I was
so proud and and Anita had promised me that there
(09:54):
would be no foolishness. And and I walked into the
men's room was handed a tow by a topless woman. No,
I think the statute of Limitations. And then uh, my
wife at the time came out and she'd gone into
the ladies room and the Chippendale male models were in there.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
No, I have questions, but I'll say them after we
get off.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Now, that's after after the thing. And then Preston, I
got to know him better when we had Ali Sheba.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
And that was and that was quite a day, you know.
It came from the Saudi Arabians. That was quite a story. Uh.
George President Bush in two thousand and eight, he was
not running for re election, and he took this international
tour and went to see the King of Saudi Arabia.
And Ali Sheba was had been at stud on his
(10:57):
farm and for whatever you call it farm in Saudi Arabia,
and he went to President Bush. He said, I want
to show you Alishiba, he said, and I'm going to
present him to you as a gift. And he President Bush.
Miss Bush said, well, we really, we can't take this horse.
(11:17):
What do we you know, we just can't do that.
And he said, well, I'll present them as a gift
to the American people. And he said, well that's that's great.
And he was kind of scratching and said, now what
do we do? And the king's one of the king's sons, therefore,
one of the princes of Saudi Arabia was standing there,
and he said, I know, we'll send them to that
(11:39):
place in Kentucky where they're doing the World of Questioning games.
And then the next thing, I got a call from
the State Department said the President would like to know
if you want that horse. And you know that took
me about a half a second to say say yes.
And then the boy then the quarantine that it was
(11:59):
a state department one day than the USDA the next
day working out the quarantine and getting from the king's
farm and and but we got Preston involved as the
welcoming committee, you know, as the breeder of Ali Shiva,
and that was really an exciting thing. And I remember
(12:20):
we all made our speeches and everything when he arrived
at the Hall of Champions at the horse park. And
but I remember mister Madden sent me his speech like
two or three times, do you like should I say this?
Should I not say this? And I thought, a great
man like Preston Madden's asking me my opinion about what
he should say. Mister Madden, you say any damn thing
(12:43):
you want to say, you know, But that was, you know,
that was I don't know what led me into that story,
but that well, yeah he did. Anyway, That's how I
met Sean is when I got to know the the bands.
I got to know Sean and Sean had started this tour,
(13:03):
this tourism business, this tour business, and we we thought,
wouldn't it be good to have tours of Kentucky horse
farms start at the horse park and end at the
horse park and include the horse park. And it was
a new idea, and uh boy, Sean and I made it.
Sean made it a success, and I was happy that
(13:26):
it made it was good for the horse park too,
and it made it made us look good, because Sean
makes everybody look good.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a lot of fun. He is.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
He is absolutely fun and and a very honestly all
teasing his side. He's a very very knowledgeable horseman.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Oh I'm sure you. Oh yeah, been around them all
his life, all his life.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
And and uh knows the history and the breeding of
all these horses, and and can tell a story about
all of them.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
So for anybody interested in booking Shall Washington and learning
more about his tours, Unique Horse Farm Tours Lexington dot
com is the website.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Good, that's it.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
See, And that's the other sign of how clever Sean is.
He just got a big, nice commercial and I don't
believe he's painted pennyful.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I'll send him a bill.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
I'll send him one to working out in trade.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Someone stop calling then coming back.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
But it's a really nice website. I'm looking at it
right now, and you can book the tour with him,
and there's from the way i'm looking at it, there's
different levels of tours that he can take you on
as well. So and I need to do that for myself, Yeah,
because it looks really fascinating, very detailed. And I know
Sean too, just from the show here. And you're right,
he can weave a story. Oh yeah, I can appreciate
(14:46):
a good storyteller.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah. Yeah, I think here's a different kind of story
he tells. If he's got a serious group of horse people.
He'll tell the story one way. But if he's got
the church ladies from des Moines, he's liable. It's you
know what, there is a last son of secretariat, you know.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
You never know we had one of those, as you know,
a sort of secretary. Yeah we did, We didn't. He
was there, confined in a barn down in a stall
down in Tennessee. He was like nineteen or twenty years old,
and uh, I forget which one of these organizations right
(15:28):
here call us and said would you have a place
for him? You know he's a stud. Oh really yeah?
And he said he'd been confining this stall down there
for sixteen years. I said, my god.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Who does something like that?
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I don't know. I think it was kind of a
shed kind of thing where he could but you know, yeah,
he couldn't run around. We had an empty paddock of
where we live, and we said, here, we'll try him
and we'll see. I know he's a study, or said
if he's vicious or something and we have to move on, yeah,
you come get him.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Yeah, but he wasn't so returned.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Boy, he was happy to get out. We had him
through it all one winter and up into the spring
and he died. Okay, yeah, he was about twenty two
years old.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Well, but she gave him a nice last year.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah, he had a good years last year. But he
he would look at the horses and two padded over
or something like that. You know, they had bred him
and everything. So really I can't remember his name.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Now, but well I'm thinking too. We had a son
of secretary at the horse park who was the splitting image,
had three socks the whole. Yeah, just looked exactly like him.
But you know, couldn't couldn't. We all could run faster
than he could. Uh, but he looked the part and
we would put him in the uh prey the breeds.
(16:58):
That's the third red representative. So he had a job
and he did he did good.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Uh, of course, what kind of you tell me secretary
was was not a great did not have great success
in the stud farm?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Is that he turned out to be a better brood
marriage Yeah. Uh he ranked pretty close to the top
when the broodmeris. Yeah, and he's had some stakes wind
and it was not a complete failure. But yeah, I mean,
hell I know this, you know.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Yeah, Yeah, he had a high bar. Yeah that was
said that's that's probably fair. You know, Big Brown is
uh you know, he was some comment was made about
his success as a stud, but he's turned out to
be a great brood mayor. Yeah, sire right now and
joined the success of Puka.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
The Mayor.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
We went out, we were invited by Resolute Racing. They
brought a contingent of people to go see Big Brown
and to thank him for Pokah And so we went over,
uh to see Pooka and to you know, bring greetings
from daddy and uh, boy, she's got a really impressive
(18:18):
little Philly which is both uh, I don't know. Oh
I'm about to say it, I don't know, and if
I do, I might have a rhyme. So I'm not.
I'm not going to. But you can see an Oaks winner. Yeah,
you know, three years from.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Now unless you had a Derby winter, she had door
knock uh and and authentic and authentic. Yeah. So a
Derby winner and a Belmont winner and a Belmont winner
and then uh and then the Baisa. Yeah, yeah, he's
knocking on the door too.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
He's not He's gonna do great things.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Uh. You know, he's a three year old this year, three.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Year old finished third in the Belmont. But we haven't
hard to last to him yet.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
No, he was pretty green.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
He was running to day in the Jim dany things.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Oh it was in the Jim Dandy today against sovereignty. Yes, okay, okay, huh,
well that's they have to get my watering out here,
get my wagering phone out.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Did a little research on Jim Dandy, you know. And
he had one of steaks at saratogas the two year old.
And then he was in in running against John on
Fox and which one and the and the Bluegrass steaks? No,
(19:44):
the travelers, I guess it was. And they got to
do a big duel everything and he slipped through on
the inside on a muddy track and one one by
eight langs. Nobody could believe it. Yeah it was. It
was one hundred to one.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
And that was the last stakes race he ever won.
He had one one one before as a two year old.
But he ended up running in Tijuana. I'll walk coffee
Auntie in Tijuana. That's where he ended up. Really yeah,
he was twelve years old and still running.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
And then just disappeared. Imagine they put him down or
whatever that.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
You know, Randy kIPS Gallop Fox.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Yeah, and which one? Oh wow?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
What what here was that about?
Speaker 2 (20:36):
It was in the Traverse. See, that would have been
in nineteen thirty three, I'm fair sure. Yeah, that's right. Yeah,
because thirty one was twenty grand and might have been
the next year, okay, might have been got a boxing year.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Well, you know, I never really knew where Jim Dandy
came from.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
So that's good that you didn't know that the states
after him that I didn't know whatever happened to whatever
happened to him or what was the note where he
ended up? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Wow? Well, speaking of New York racing, it's a big
New York week for us at old friends Michael and
I are heading up there for the Whitney and.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
I found out why I had to find out on
thro Daily News. Uh after care allowance during the Whitney
weekend and Tarrytoba yes uh.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
And the Third Bread Aftercare Alliance is you know, does
that race? And we all, all of us who are
part of the aftercare community, we all go up there
and support that that race, and we appreciate Nirah for
their support for aftercare, and we support our good friend
Stacy Clark who runs to the third Red after care Lawrence.
(22:03):
And but it's also it's the adduction week for the
Hall of Fame and then the Jockey Club roundtable. Is
this this upcoming week two?
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Arthur Hancock's going into the Hall of Fame this week.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Yeah, that's and that's wonderful. Yeah, yeah, what's so.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
He's a he's a great guy. I got to know
him pretty well.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Yeah. It's part of your Paris mafia there and you yeah,
the Lil's the gathering at Lil's and yeah, they got it.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Wrote I've got an eclipse lord for writing that article.
Writing Arthur and me and Copeland.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Yeah, and it's a formidable triumphant.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
But but in addition to us uh joining up there
and and then we'll stay for the sales after Monday,
Monday and Tuesday night. Uh. Commentator, the great, the great
New York Bread passed away sadly about about a month ago.
And remember that we have a farm, old friends has
(23:11):
the farm at Cabin Creek up there just outside of Saratoga.
Commentator was the anchor horse, or the ambassador, or the
spokes horse or the face of that farm for many
many years. So it was a sad day. But in
the midst of the sadness, we realized that we had
diversify the New York bread son of Bellamy Road. New
(23:39):
York raced Whitney winter, so forth and so on on
our farm here. And we'd said, would it wouldn't it
be nice if if we sent uh diversify back home?
And and really it's where he belongs to be celebrated
as a great champion and a great refereece been a
(24:00):
great ambassador for New York racing. And I tell you, Ursula,
they couldn't have been happier. I mean, it was joyous.
You know. Barbara Fossam on our staff, had this. It
was her idea in the midst of all the sadness
and commentator and we said, that's an inspired idea of Barbara,
and uh, we you know, you know how these things go.
(24:23):
We just make a phone call and said, would you know,
would you like to have let's let's you know, to
our New York friends, And everybody got so excited. The
next thing I know, I got newspaper reporters and everything
calling from Saratoga and calling from New York and I mean,
it's it's it's a joyous thing now compared to the
(24:44):
sadness of commentator. And I want to say another thing too.
You know, we we said, boy, would be nice to
get him up there. You know, he's a thirteen year old,
twelve year old gelding said if we could get him
up there about time for the whitney, and that'd be great.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, that would be great.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
And good Ol' Sally Vans, Oh the best. Oh they
I mean they just didn't even you don't even have
to ask, and they're they are sending him up and
made the arrangements, went out of their way and uh
no charge to to us, which is so meaningful to
old friends, you know. And uh he is a matter
(25:25):
of fact, might be he might be being loaded as
we speak. Yeah, he's leaving this morning, and you know,
it just couldn't be happier. So we're gonna they're gonna
have a big shn dig on Sunday night, the Sunday
after the whitney at the farm in Cabin Creek and
(25:45):
we're gonna have a big welcome for Diversify up there.
So it's a big week for us. We're excited about that.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
I better catch up on my commercials hadn't you're supposed
to pride me over there.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Well, you gather on such a role.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
I didn't want to Enterron Resty he hounds me.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
I know he does.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
He's aggressive like that.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Yeah, I got to take care of my friends with
Clayburn and so forth. Prince of Monico won the Grade
one delm Off Fortuity as a two year old. He
was the fastest two year old ever by the noted Spikestown,
a champion sprinter and a sy sires. In fact, Prince
of Monico is the only son of Spikestown to win
Grade one steaks as a two year old in Spikes Town.
(26:26):
In side one hundred and forty five stakes winners, Prince
of Monico won his first starters two. He won by
eight spind at six flong one O nine flat to
win the Grade three Best Fowle Stakes at del Mark
when the second start won by four and a quarter
lynx in stakes record time. Then he won the seventh
furlong Grade one delm Off for Tunity in one twenty

two starts as a three to old, both in Grade

In the Grade one Woodie Stevens came flying from six

Then in h Allen Jerkin Stakes he finished second by
nose again after a trouble trip and the game performers.
(27:09):
Prince of Monaco was a grand individual sold for nine
one hundred and fifty thousand dollars this year. Go take
a look at him over with Claviron Farm where he
has completed his first season has stood this year. Thank
you breeders. Also completing his first season stud was a
well named bright Future, a Grade one winner by the
great Sire Curley. It's called Jacob West at five nine
(27:32):
nine eighty seven two three three old. The website is
clavenfarm dot com. Coach Claven Farmers located over in Paris, Kentucky.
And so it was a Clayward Agency and Indian Creek
Farm and because they were one of the same same
people on them both. Clayward Agency was founded back in
(27:53):
nineteen thirty one by mister James clay Ward and he
was very successful because oh he gave great service and
he knew what he was doing. That's the kind of
quality is still carried on the day and whenever your
insurance needs, especially if it pertains as a third bed,
the professionals over there to clay ordered and see or
they can supply the best coverage at the birst price available.
(28:16):
Just called Shack Parish or Bruce Isaac number over there
is eight five number nine aged seven eighteen sixty one.
And also while there you might have been asked about well,
their office, let me tell you where their office is
Strytown on Main Street, eleven o two Main Street and Parish.
And of course that I've said, they're greatly affiliated with
the Indian Creek Farm, a beautiful farm, greatly a great
(28:40):
horseman out there. Shack Parish is easily runs that out
there and has for many years. And they sell a
lot of horses at auction. They bought a lot of
horses and they do a great job at both. So
I would recommend them, you know that, because they've been
ensured many of the final find a third dge of
(29:01):
the Claveward Agency and Indian Creek. They have raised stakes
winners work here in abroad. The first saw the light
of day right there. And the best way to get
in touch with them is might want to go to
the website which is Indian creekky dot Com. All the
(29:21):
phone number over there, it's an eight five nine number.
It's nine eight seven seven four four three. It's two
great organizations, Clayward Agency and Indian Creek Farm.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis just.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
A bat color up all right? Where were we?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Well, we were talking about what a great day it was,
or it's going to be this week that the Versifive
is going home to New York, and so we're losing
one here at the Farming Can, Kentucky, but we're gaining
one too. Flat lined Okay arrived this past week and
(30:08):
he got to go to Old Friends and retire because
he won the Old Friend Steakes Okay at Kentucky Downs
in twenty sixteen, which entitled him to retirement at Old
Friends Dream Chase Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
They still run that race though, ye yeah, yeah, but
it's a different location day, it's right.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
We uh Pimlico.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah yeah, And that was they're gonna close Pemical where
you're gonna move it?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Well, I guess you know that's a hell of a
good question. Uh, I guess we're gonna have to talk
to the people at Laurel because that's where they're going
to be racing the the Preakness. You know, it's on Preakness.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Day, New York. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Uh, they're they're pretty good to us. But it was fun.
Let my you know, my first year at Old Friends
and going to this race at Pimlico and this, you know,
my first go around at the Old Friends, the Old
Friend's race. The winner was a horse named uh Vessio
(31:16):
and it was it's like a fifteen to one shot
and I looked and it was owned by Nina Bonnie
and my dear friend was who was the chairman of
the board of the horse park for many years and
someone I worked with obviously closely at the horse park.
And her son Shelby was there and that what a
(31:39):
treat that was to present the trophy. And I mean
the I know, the beautiful farm they have in Virginia.
There's it's probably unlikely that Vessio needs to be retired
at at our place. But I got to get on
the phone with Nina and say, you won't believe this
where I am and who I'm with and what we're doing,
(31:59):
and that was so then that was Pimlico one year
ago this year for the Preakness that the Nina I
ran into Nina at the Preakness, where Vessio was running
in another race, uh that same day, not the old
Friends race, but he finished third in that race, and
so they were having having a big time. But anyway, Uh,
(32:24):
flat Line won the twenty sixteen and so he moved
to his new digs. I had old friends this week
and uh, you know he see he he raced thirty
six times, had thirty six starts one six times one
one just short of a half a million dollars. So
he's got he can hang his hat on a on
a good, good career. Yeah, and uh he's adjusting, you know,
(32:48):
we give we give him about a month of quarantine
and adjustment and then he'll be he'll be out on
the tours here pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Very good. Yeah, new face.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
It seems like a nice feeling.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Is the quarantine process, what's the timeline on that is
a little bit longer or how do you how do
you gauge that?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Yeah, it's for you know, keep in mind, for us,
the quarantine is not a formalized it's a you know,
it's our quarantine. Okay, and it asked, there's the factors
would be is you know, first of all, it's a stallion.
Stallions are going to be a longer period of time.
And so they they figure out they're not they're not working.
(33:30):
Now you know they can relax and.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
And it is funny you know that, Michael. Michael will
tell this all the time. You know, people say, well,
you're not going to be able to have stallions out
there now, You're just not. Uh, you can't have stallions
there with the public. You're gonna have big trouble if
you do that. And Michael, we are batting one hundred percent.
Every one of the stallions. They calm down and we
(33:59):
haven't had one that we couldn't couldn't have the the
public give carrots to and be friendly with. Sometimes it
takes two weeks, sometimes it takes two months. But but
they all calm down and come around. Yeah, and come around.
And some are a little you know, you don't want
to turn you don't want to turn your back on
it on like I'll have another because he'll remind you
(34:23):
he's there. But but he's not vicious or anything like that.
You just got to got to be aware but bo,
that's what It's generally a month or so, and for
our geltings, we just want to a week or two
just to make sure that they are not having any
issues or any acclimation. And of course what all their
(34:43):
vet work is we have We we require that all
their papers to be right and and that they've gone
through a vet vet check before they get there.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
What's the name of Big Brown?
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Sorry again, Big browns sire? Who was big round? How
which snow that?
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Oh? I got the horse mixed up with therese Ah,
there's a horse show I had out there where he
used to say. We were told to stay away from him,
and uh, which we did. We'd go out and feed
the two that we had out there, and he was
right across the paddock farmers, you know, and he he
ended up his rounder and let's feed them, and he's
(35:26):
nickered to us when uh, Jackie and Betsy finally ended
up feeding him peppermins boundary. Okay, well that wasn't boundary
with something else? Uh what's that?
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yeah, bar yeah, boundary.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
That's that's not a wrong horse. Yeah yeah, okay, so
let me catch up. I'm a I'm a behind on
him taking got coal more Now. The last Sunday in France,
the Group three pre Clothes Steakes was won by Rosa Savage,
but three old first in the first Cup I Champion
Maximum Security who stands at Ashford Stead, Brandon Island. Rosa
(36:05):
Savage is the second stakes winner fourth state horts from
the first cop by Maximum Security. In addition to a
score in the Group three Free Chloe Stakes, she has
placed in two other states, including another Group three the
other black type runner Maximum Securities first cop is our
instant Replay. He won the three hundred thousand dollars Texas
(36:26):
Derby at lone Star and two hundred thousand dollars bath
House Road States It stands Exotic but It's Down at
o'conne finished second in the one million dollar of Louisiana
Derby at the Fairgrounds, and he earned over four hundred
and eighty eight thousand. Maximum Promise is placed in a
pair of states at turf Way, including the Grade three
(36:47):
Jaff Ruby and Good Call has placed in one hundred
and forty five thousand dollars stakes at Oconn. All four
Maximum Security stakes horses have earned black types this year.
Undefeated at two Maximum Security, he was a champion three
o' colt, Champion of the World third A Rankers and
three one Great One Stakes at four and earned two million,
(37:07):
four hundred and thirty one thy nine hundred. He won
ten of his thirteen starts. If you remember, he was
disqualified from the Derby and just justifiably sold. But anyway,
but he finished first. Yep, he's still finished first anyway.
He's by winner of the Great One Breeders Cup, Judle
(37:29):
out of a Grandora of ap Indy and Maximum Security Study.
He has been five thousand dollars live four he signed runners.
So now would be a good time to call Ashford
stud at eight five, nine, eight seven, six seventy eighty
eight and it's never too early to planned for twenty
(37:51):
twenty six. Who The website is coumore dot com. I
got to talk about friends over at Quillen letherin Tack,
which is where old friends gets older helm, their halters
and everything over from Ralph quill Let Leather Intact. In fact,
(38:13):
I think they've got a don't they have a halter
named after Oh.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, they have their old old friends halter.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Yeah, yep, got a new store. Have you been in
his new stood?
Speaker 3 (38:27):
They got a new store. Oh yeah, I mean they
got the one down downtown, Yeah, downtown Paris, but they
made it very very nice.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Yeah. Well the old one used to it was further
up uh north, Okay.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
No, I've been. I know the new one and it's
something that where you can look in and see them, yeah,
see them, which is I think a great idea.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Oh yeah, well Ralph owns half of Paris.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Anyway. You know.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
A lot of those buildings down through there. They used
to have a bar where had some they made beer,
they brewed their own beer, brewing beer in it. Then
that wasn't for a long time. Finally sold it to
two ladies and maybe they drank themselves out of business
or something. But anyway, but Ralph is a great guy.
(39:23):
He is that.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
He's been very good to old friends.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
I'll save known him forever. He told me one time.
Maybe I shouldn't repeat, because he says, when I first
came around here, said I knew nothing about the horse business.
The only thing I knew was Keenland, Cravern and Ursula Ellis. Yeah.
I said, well, you put me in good company, but
(39:47):
I don't deserve to be there.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
I don't know. I'd say that's all you need to know, Well,
well we used.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
To back when we had horses. Of course, we get
all our equipment from out there, and god, I don't
know how many halters we took in there to repair,
you know, Oh yeah, yeah, because they were always breaking
their halters. We had a bunch of old guildings and stuff
out there, you know, and yeah, Tubby and then those
(40:13):
that bunch. Oh yeah, exactly it was. But anyway, it's
a great shop and I would recommend there. You know.
They they sell and ship out over twenty thousand halters
a year.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
And that's something world wide. I mean, that's they probably
there's probably nobody in the world with a better reputation
than Quilling.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
No, I can't. I can't give you the name of
another time. I'll tell you true.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
You don't need to know another one.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Okay, right there in Parish on Main Street. Can't can't
miss it. Give them phone number is eight five nine
nine eight seven zero two one five. Great people in there,
working and great quality. They even you sell my book
in there, I think it they finally so that oh
really anyway, Ralph Quinten, moving right alone. I'm talking to
(41:11):
John Nicholson here and did we talk about the new
horse that you got.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Yeah, flat flat line. Yeah, we were talking about flat
line and so we're we're really excited about that. And
and we wanted and you're right, we want to continue
these this race. So it brings good attention to us.
It brings good attention to aftercare and to you know,
the industry's commitment to take care of these horses from
(41:41):
foll to forever. Is I love I love the Uh
that's the that's the mantra. And so yeah, we want
to continue that. And uh, you're right, you know, I
hadn't thought of that. You know what it's it moved
to Pimlico and now Pimlico is out of action for
a couple of years. Uh. And by the way, we
(42:03):
got our friend fran Burns, who friend is a fixture
at Pimlico and she does the backside tours and every
and she's well known in the Maryland horse circles. She
purchased two of the grandstand seats of the now old
Pimlico that has been torn down and sent them to
(42:27):
us as a donation. So we've had and they arrived
and she had a beautiful cover made for them of
the of the Maryland Jockey Club and their their logo
and first of all, just a very nice gesture for
her to think of us, you know, and and so
(42:47):
we will. You know, we're starting to collect some pretty
serious nice artifacts and as we complete this, uh Josephine
Abercombie Barn, which is a beautiful climate control and facility
that we have now, but it's going to be enhanced
in the next year or so to something really really
really nice kind of a mini museum and video center
(43:11):
and welcome center. We'll find a place for that. And
I was telling our group we were having our weekly
gathering staff meeting, and I said, we need to start
thinking about some some really nice signage and interpretation of
the things that we have. We've got, you know, we've
got a lot of our horses trophies, uh, and and
(43:33):
people send us memorabilia of uh, you know, of all
the famous horses that have moved there. So we you know,
we need to interpret this and explain why that this
is just two old seats from somewhere. These are that
represent a significant part of the history of Thirdbread racing.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
Didn't Bobby's I.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
Was about to say that, right, Bobby Frankel left his
trophy collection there, Eclipse awards and everything else. Uh, and
so that that in and of itself is.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Pretty pretty significant, if I if I'd a call or right.
Speaker 7 (44:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
When he first met Bobby Frankel, he introduced himself and
told him what he was doing and everything, and Frankel said,
so that's yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
He was kind of a grup in the spirit of
non repeatable words on the radio. Yeah, Michael had not
a great opinion of him after their first encounter.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
Then he lived and but the guy did some research
and found out what Michael was doing exactly.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
And and well, couldn't have been more generous and and uh, boy,
Michael's that that's the story of old friends. Uh, and
the early days when when people just were somewhere between uh,
hostile and dismissive.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Of the idea of just having a bunch of I
thought I didn't think that would it would fly.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Yeah, Well, speaking of memorabilia, and what's going to happen
is you're going to get so much stuff. You're gonna
be like me and think what am I going to do?
And where am I going to put all this stuff?
Speaker 3 (45:14):
At? Right?
Speaker 4 (45:15):
And I'm you know this I'm a huge memorabilia collector
and talking about Preston madd and one of the most
unique pieces of memorabilia that I have. I have is
UK football varsity jacket Preston Maddens.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Yes, how in the world did you get that?
Speaker 4 (45:28):
I'll tell you off air, but I ended up with
it somehow, and every once in a while I try
it on just to see if it'll fit. And what
I've realized is now I'm six three, one hundred and
ninety five pounds. People were built different back then, even
football players were built different. Because I can't fit into it, yeah,
and it's still too small for me towhere. Not that
(45:50):
I would ever wear it in public or anything. I
don't want to do that, but I just always like
to kind of see can I fit into this, which
tells me if I've lost any weight or not. But
it's it's a fun piece of memorabilia to have, and
I like to share the story. Hey, this is Preston Madden.
Well he was Preston Madden. And then I tell my
friends about him and Anita and Hamburg Farms and the
derby parties. So now you've added to that story about
(46:12):
the derby parties at the horse party.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
See, that's the thing about objects, and objects are just
a bunch of objects until you interpret them. What they
what they symbolize. And that's what that's what we were
talking about.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
I have no clue what I'm gonna do with six
medal seats for a memorial coliseum and a wooden seat,
but I have them in my living room right now.
Speaker 2 (46:34):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (46:34):
That's I have no clue what I'm gonna do with them.
Nobody's allowed to fit in them, but they're in my
living room.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
That's that's right. But but they make for a good story, yes,
And the story is a big story, you know, and
a long story.
Speaker 2 (46:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
And Michael's collected so much stuff. Some of it I
don't even you know, I don't what are we going
to do with this? Some of it's really meaningful, I mean,
you know, and it needs not to be in the basement,
you know, it needs to be out where people because
it's because bo You're right, what happens is it stimulates stories.
(47:09):
You know. It's yeah, it's an object, but you you know,
for example, these two seats at Pimlico, Well, we've had
five Preakness winners at Old Friends. So we're going to
put these chairs out. Here's Pimlico, which was you know,
the track for all these years and it was torn
down and Ma rebuilt now into this big palace. But
(47:29):
Old Friends has five winners of the Preak Mistakes that
have lived on the farm and that's no small thing,
you know, And and so that gives us a chance
to talk about it's a great connection. It's a great connection,
absolutely is.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
I thought where the Dormans came down yesterday Old Friends.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Boy, wasn't that special Cody the family of Cody, of
Cody's wish? Oh yeah, uh you know if it's such
a touching story, and the the statue to uh Cody's wish,
and it's going to be a beautiful Joscelyn Russell sculptor
and it's going to go to the horse Park, which
(48:11):
is which is wonderfully appropriate. And I'm, you know, my
obviously I have a tremendous fondness for the horse Park
and I appreciate the great job Lee Carter does there.
But it's appropriate that it's that it's there. But the
Dormans have been to Old Friends a couple of times
now and have really grown fond of it, and we
consider them good good friends of the farm and good
(48:34):
friends of aftercare, and uh, what a wonderful story that
is for for racing. And and I'm maybe I shouldn't
say this. I don't think it's a total secret, but there, uh,
there'll be a movie. There's gonna be a movie on
the whole story of Cody's wish. And I suspect that's
going to go down as one of the great movies
(48:56):
of thoroughbred racing.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
You know, we would think of and from what I.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Was listening to, it's going to be done right at
the highest level, so to be up there with Sea
Biscuit and Secretariat and all the you know, the great
thoroughbred race movies.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
I'll get an update from mister Dormant every once in
a while, and it just makes my day when he
checks in with me and let me know what's happening
or where he's going, or what's going on in the
honor of Cody. And that makes my day when I
get a little text from him.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
Yeah. Yeah, So good good family, good people to know
you have been good friends to them and good supporters
of the of the cause that that that boy's memory
is going to go on for generations relations hens.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
The statue been unveiled in the horse park. What's the
other statue has not been unveiled yet.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
The model has been taken around as you know as publicity, okay,
and the base of the whole statue, the gentleman named
Bob Fulmer has been is and he is an expert
in and rock walls and historic construction, and he is
(50:05):
on the board of directors of Old Friends, and it's
a key part of our operation. And uh, I love
it that he's involved with. The thing's absoluble.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Well, let me see, let me catch up here, take
care of my friends over Spencery Farm. They got all
these young studs over there dominating the freshman Silius. The
second year of Silius, the third year of Salas and
last Sunday in Saratoga was going to honorable Mistakes was
won by Alina's Forte, appily from the first cup by Motoli.
(50:38):
That same day Booth, also from the first cup by Mottoli,
was second by Nose and one hundred and fifty seven
dollars Jeff Hall Memorial. In the other part, Alena's Forte
is also one of the Galway States at Saratoga, and
the ruth was as aquied of and over five hundred
and twenty six thousand, and she was a two hundred
and fifty thousand dollars graduate of the phase. He dipped
in July. Sale booth sold for two hundred and twenty
(51:01):
six seventh. The Obi smart seale has won five States
three graded noverer eight hundred and ninety two thousand Motoli
ranks below his stablemate Omaha Beach and Maximum Mischief and
just above stablemate vein Usso on the third crop sire list,
and he's the leading sire graded States winners with four
(51:22):
On the other sire list, The nations leading freshman sire
Yopon Standard spens Ree Farm, the nations leading second cop
sire thea Coma, and third rank second crop sire Authentic
Standard Spensrie Farm. Nations leading sire of two year olds,
Yopon is number one outranking all sires as far as
(51:44):
that goes on the two year old silist, and the
nation's leading sire, of course, is in the Mischief with
a seven million dollar lead over the second rank sire.
He is also the leading sire of twenty twenty five
States winners with fifteen steaks horsers forty fourth. Greatest States
winners with ten Grade one stakes ones were three. You
(52:05):
name it in the mischief is number one. If you
want a stakes winner in your stable, look at the
stag and it's Spencer Farm, the Breeders Farm. Now's the
time to start looking. Just give a call to days
around them all. Car Daniel at eight five nine two
nine four years old, thirty in the website has been
through farm dot com. I want to say something about
(52:25):
my friend Hill Parker. You know he'll, don't you. Oh yeah,
I guess every I know everybody house l Yeah, have
you met him?
Speaker 5 (52:32):
I have not?
Speaker 2 (52:33):
You have?
Speaker 3 (52:33):
I am not.
Speaker 4 (52:34):
I need to come down to Paris and have one
of these celebrity lunches with you.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
Well, as far as I'm concerned, he's a celebrity. I
mean he's done US many favors and everything, and his
wife rigging.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
And he's a true horseman.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
That mean he is in addition to being the real
estate business, he's the hell of a horseman. Yeah right,
he You know he used to ride steeple chambers. Yeah,
you've got to be a bit nutty to do that.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
But he's got that gene.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
Yes, Yeah, train training his own horses out here in
one races.
Speaker 3 (53:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
And I think he bought three or four acres back
here that he's training horses for a cross country so yeah,
and you know which he used to ride that too.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Looking on, there's so many equestrian uh, equestrian sport farms,
sport horse farms now and uh, you know that's a
just in the last generation. That's a new new thing
here and there's nobody who knows more about that than
than Hill Parker.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Well, he's he's a great horseman and a hell of relator.
I'll tell you that. Of course, he's got a lot
of help for frigging. Uh. He's a member of Coase
the Elections and Bluegrass Association realators and Kentucky Association relatives
and Washington d C Associations and relatives, you name it.
He's got all the statistics going far. Uh. Graduated from
(53:58):
U K and Uh. He's had experience with the ven
horses and jumpers and steeple chasing and fox hunters and
gassage horses, you name him. He was a great level
a pony clubber, which is where most of our Olympic
riders come from too. I used to watch him out.
He'd be breathing the horse, you know, when he'd come
(54:18):
down to the wire.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
And he look at his watch, so he said he
did his own timing.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Yeah, man bring his van out here. And he was sad,
helly ground time. You know, he was dropping shank down there.
To get out there and put the tack on him,
you know, and take him all out and ride him
come back.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
Add is a true horseman.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
He's a true horseband and a hell of a nice guy.
I recommend him.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
Well.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
The best way to get in touch with Hill, I'll
give you a cell number. It's an eighty five nine number,
election number six year oh eight eight zero three nine
and uh uh his website he is uh lexhorsefarms dot com.
Great website. Go take a look at it. Tell them
(55:03):
we goes by you see where he sold something. Jackie
kind of keeps up with him. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah,
and she usually does. He's a commercial as a matter
of fact. Anyway, he'll you're putting up with me today,
and I recommend you highly. And the way if you
get in touch with him is lex horse Farms dot com.
(55:25):
Let's see where I am. We're at.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis.
Speaker 2 (55:35):
That a man will be in here today.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
Oh, I hope.
Speaker 4 (55:43):
So it's gonna be a long hour with you and me.
I mean, we know James is good for at least
thirty minutes and probably more.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Well, he's gotta he's got to let us know the winners, right,
what are we gonna do?
Speaker 6 (55:57):
Right?
Speaker 4 (55:57):
Plus the Jim Dandy state. So that's why I have
a yellow pad in front of me.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
So I hope he comes in because he's fun to
listen to.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
He's amazing. And for the times that I used to
listen before I was coming back here, I figured that
he had a computer like a laptop in front of him,
spilling out all this the stuff from memory. Oh yeah,
I've watched it. It's it's amazing. He is a savant.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
Yeah, he just comes in, doesn't have any notes, doesn't
have a computer, and just sits there and rattles off
this stuff and it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Well, I'm lucky to remember my name.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
Well, Bristnett is lucky to have him. But that's probably
a good symbol of what Bristnett's Britain at Bristnett does
for you, you know, you get all that information. Maybe
it's just maybe it's just him. Maybe he's their secret weapon.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
I don't know, but he's awful good and what he does. Yeah,
and you know what, Jack and I got hacked, Uh,
a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
I remember that.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
You remember that? And Uh I had lost my pass
word to g the bristnet and everything you know now
and so but we had a young lady h I
can't remember her name now, but she was very good,
come in and put straighten out of computer. Yeah, and
(57:28):
she got on a phone with Bristnet and worked all
that out and everything, you know. And the next day
I got a call from Bristnet and said, d uh
are you okay? Now? Is everything working on?
Speaker 3 (57:41):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (57:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (57:43):
Said, well, you just don't have that. Those kind of
things happened anymore where people bothered to give you a
call and check on you.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
We never been hacked before.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
Sounds terrible. I've never been hacked. Uh.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
It was a mess.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Yeah, I com from the way you described it, nobody
wanna be hacked.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
Yeah, we were. We had no computer for like four days.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Yeah, you know, we we've gotten to a point where
we can't get along, or at least at least we
think we can.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
Well, I can't do a radio show that's out with
brus ned.
Speaker 3 (58:15):
Yeah. No, that's that's a scary feeling.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
No, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
Yeah, uh pointed to ask you about make emotion. I
saw sadly, make emotion have to be euthanized. Do you
want to take a few minutes to talk about make emotion?
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Well, you know it was so so you know, it's
always sad when you when you lose them, and that's
you know, it's a decision that you know, we we
now own these horses. They're signed over to us when
when they come here. But what we make a point
(58:50):
to do is to stay in touch with the connections
and so, uh, make make emotional wonderful, very big fan
favorite on the on the Farm. And but uh, you
know we had there was an e PM history there
and so we knew what we had to We knew
what we had to do. Uh. And you know another
(59:14):
friend of this show is Brian Waldridge and so we
you know, consulted with Brian Brian on that whole situation
as we as we do usually as you know, are
so they tell you. These horses will tell you when
they're when it's when it's it's time. In this particular situation, uh,
you know, we had there was a history there that
(59:36):
we knew was not going to get better. And when
you're a geriatric home to two horses of that age,
you know that's something that that uh, you know, it's
gonna happen. Yeah, you know, it's gonna just gonna it's
gonna happen from time to time.
Speaker 4 (59:52):
And I imagine the guests that come in the fans
of the horses at old Friends, they now they've developed
that connection with reports once they've seen Pat and fed Carrott's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
Oh they do, and they ask about them. And you know,
we have this program where you can you can be
a part owner, you know, Uh, you get a certificate
in the picture and all that. And you'd be surprised
at the amount of those certificates I sign every week,
dozens of them. And people just want to have that
(01:00:23):
feeling that they're helping that horse and they've got you know,
they've got that that I appreciate.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
You're taking those two boys who have ours, you know.
Of course one of them pass to leave.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Yeah, well, they're they're special members of the family for sure.
And I think, uh, the new the new Paddock mates
working out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Really yeah, well, oh yeah, he's he comes up the
buddies now the Jackie and Betsy go out every Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
Antonio and and in this case Marissa h at that farm.
They've got a they've got a sixth sense about knowing
who gets along with who. And uh, they you know,
there's always an alpha, but they work. When it works,
it works, they work it out. And uh, Red Night
(01:01:10):
and channel Maker, that's those two are are famous at
at Dream Chase and uh, channel Maker had to have
some surgical work done and James and so Red Night
and he were reunited after about a month, and that
was they were never so happy to see each other.
So well, James Scully is here, So we're all about
(01:01:32):
to get smarter. That's a good way to put it. Yeah,
And I hope I've got a little Richard.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
That's a better way to put it. You don't make
us a little Richard, James, and I appreciate you coming
into helping me out always always, And hello to Betsy
and helloa Jackie, and we'll.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
Look forward you to now we'll be in Saratoga next week,
Michael and I, so maybe we could arrange a phone call.
We'll work on that porch of a great Washington in
in Saratoga, the birthplace of old friends.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
Right, all right, that's outstanding. I'll follow up with thank
you so good James coming in.
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
You're gonna see a good race.
Speaker 5 (01:02:13):
A lady name hoping not to get two hot names
a week. I saw the temperature gowing off at least
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
Oh, it's good hellas here and it's not hellas up
there trying to have fun on Saratoga. Okay, a body
good to see you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
Hello, James, Hey are so hey?
Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
Knowing?
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
Hey boy, James, thank.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
You, thank you for coming in. Need all help IM
get I'm so low in today.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
I hear you. Well, I hope Jackie's okay.
Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Oh yeah, it's Jackie's fine. It's the lady who stays
with Betsy.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
Oh needed and she had to stay for it games sick.
Yeah you got sick and they had to leave.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
And it's underassemable.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Well here we are bigger his life and life is.
Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
So good again like in a big I let you
read those ads, but tell yeah, I got some good
racing going on today.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Okay, good, all right. Last Saturday, del Mar the Grade
two two hundred found dollars San Clemente was one by
thought Process, three Old Philly By Collected Bread by Burton
cy Jones founder Eddri stood and raised on Eddri stud
which also happens to be the home collected thought Process.
The high weight in the field of nine, has also
(01:03:23):
won of the Great three Surfer Girls States at Santa Nita,
the del Mar Juvenal's Stakes at del Mark five of
her seven starts and three hundred and forty four found
two hundred dollars. With the three cops, we will complete
a full season collected at Sire seventeen stakes winners, among
them seven graded stakes winners. Tax has won Grade two stakes,
(01:03:43):
is also second in the Grade two latrollin this year
and has earned over Mayeon one hundred and twenty nine thousand.
Conclude has won graded states and over five hundred and
seventy thousand. TEENI has one graded states in New York
and Lemon Muffin won graded states, said Oaklawn Harman Calpolks,
who the graded win at Santa a Nita run second
(01:04:04):
in the Grade one breeders Goub Julil turf Man City
won greaded stakes at Woodbine. Others have won stakes at Churchill,
Down to Go from at Delaware, Santa Nita, Woodbine, wherever
there has to run. Collected won seven stakes, five grades,
including the Grade one Pacific Classic. Earned over two million,
nine hundred and seventy five thousand dollars. He's one of
(01:04:25):
ninety one stakes ones of my City Zip from the
fam mister Postapector sideline as well stands at Drew Stood
and from are on the herdress dance called Shannon o'Kyle
eight five nine, eight seven, three seventy two seventy. When
you go to the upcoming sales, watch for those collected
drillings see the website of the Understood dot com.
Speaker 5 (01:04:45):
Yeah, I thought Process was the real impressive. She figured
to be an overwhelming favor what she was, and then
she laid over that field on paper and then she
went out and crushed them. And I'll tell you there's
a couple really good three year old ter Phillies. One
on the East coast, Nitrogen who's undefeated this year for
Mark Cassie, and then thought Process on the West Coast
(01:05:10):
is really coming on now Nitrogen is gonna run in
Alabama on dirt. But the thing about those two is
we can very well see them square off at some
point a swall or as older horses because unlikely journalism
and sovereignty. You know, there's no pressure really to retire
(01:05:30):
with these phillies after their three year old season, So
it's good for racing fans. Ironman Cal is another one
of those horses you mentioned, and he just exited a
a second in the ocean side, but he had a
really tough trip. It definitely can improve upon that effort.
So he's backhead in the right direction. And we've got
(01:05:52):
some good racing going on this weekend. If you're looking
for any kind of handicapping assistance for Sarah, Toga del
Mar would bind any track in North America. Plus, we
got information on international racing and harness info as well.
Brisnet dot com Let's stock research information services is the plates.
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
We've got great tip sheets.
Speaker 5 (01:06:17):
We've got a analysis especially the big meets, other kinds
of fair odds reports, clocker reports. Our past performances are terrific.
Have data files or software, pedigree, information speak, class pace
numbers and more. Bristnet dot com it's a handicapper's edge
(01:06:40):
and like I said, we do we have got the
Jim Dandy today. We saw really terrific rates from journalism
last Saturday in the Haskell, he didn't break well or
didn't get out of gate well and didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Look comfortable going into the first turn. It was way
off the.
Speaker 5 (01:06:58):
Pace and the million dour Haskell. He certainly brought out
a big crowd and the fact that you know, it
didn't rain all day it was awesome. I thought watching
him from home that the crowd and turnout at moment.
But yeah, and then he had to swing widest of
all into the stretch and I thought both the runner
up Goskar and third place a goal oriented or still
(01:07:22):
relatively lightly raised three year old ran huge and he
just went and got him and it was a real
cutsy Win.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
I didn't think it was going good there.
Speaker 5 (01:07:31):
Yeah, I mean it was like the Prenus. You know,
he did not have the best of the trips. I
mean the Pretnus he got just crushed and it was
a big log jam. But this was more of his
own making where he just wasn't himself in a sense,
and it looked like he wasn't handling the track, but
I thought he got a hold of it on the
back side. Like I said, he had to swing widest
(01:07:52):
of all and then he closed the game gallantly. Thing
what journalism is he can go to the Travers is
Saratoga on August twenty third, possibly faced Sovereignty. Who will
run today or run in the Pacific class like a
week later in the Pacific Classics at Delmar where he's base.
(01:08:14):
That's where the Breeders' Cup class it's gonna be this fall.
That's where a lot of people think he'll go. But
we'll see what happens today with Soveregty. I mean, Cleberty
still has to win today. The Jim Dandy is a
prep for the Travers, which Bill Motts never won. And
you know he had never finished first in the Derby either,
and Sovereignty lost. You know, ran a really good second
(01:08:36):
in the Florida Derby and then improved upon it big time.
I'm not saying that's gonna happen, but baiz As I
think his main threat, Moplex is in there, speed Horse
coming off a win Ohio Derby, and then hill Road
and sam Man are the rest of the field. But
really sovereignty. It's basically if you go watched the replays
(01:09:01):
of the Derby and Belmont, it's hard to envision in losing.
But it's important to remember that these are three year
olds and they were all basically just chronologically three within
the last like four five six months, and they're still improving.
Some of them are, some of them aren't. And we'll
(01:09:23):
see finding out exactly the other races that are pretty good,
and the late George is a really I thought comparative
grade three terse steak classic ques of favor. But I
think Chad Brown has two real good chances. I like
his outside Philly play with Fire, the ten these other
Philly lavender disasters in with the Chance, and I really
(01:09:49):
there's rates number seven. They've got a couple of meeting
special eight races today, but this one for two year olds.
This one's for Phillies. Really, I think a good field.
I like number uh. I like number seven Tommy Joe
four to one with John velaskas Todd Pletcher into Mischief
her damn mother mother won first out or sold about
(01:10:10):
six and a half and then won a juvenile steak
by open lens so bred to be precocious working really
well and she'll she'll probably be around four to one.
The other main special eight race is the second that's
has colts in it, and uh, it's pretty intriguing because
this soldier and diplomat and army mule cole for a
(01:10:31):
cost quarter of a million Steve Asmus and trains it.
He's got a bullet work or he's got a real
sharp work over the main track. And he's eight to
five and looks real formidable. But I like this cock
course the sixth further Ado. They'll both be short prices.
The sixth further Ado he's a gun runner colt and
(01:10:52):
uh his work tab is looks really good on paper.
And then you know, I heard some reports where you know,
Coxious as an even cud of loose hit. So I'm
intrigued to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
That race too.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
Today at Saratoga Race seven, this is a time these
two year olds really start getting cranked up out at
del Mar I'll mention the that the features of being Crosby.
But the San Diego Handicap kicks off the stakes action
and it's the first race back at two turns for
Nyos in like like a year and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
He's only run once.
Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
To two turns and it was in a short field
and of one mile Sham and he's sort of just
laid over this group. But now he's trying to show
that he's a Breeders Cup Classic contender, so it's a
big test. I don't think he's facing the toughest field.
He'll still stretch out to a mile on the quarter
next time and they'll be a much more challenging event
(01:11:50):
if he runs well today. But it'll be good to
see him because he's a really talented horse for Bob Baffer,
the great one being Crosby. It didn't get the biggest,
the strongest field race ten. I like number one Crazy Mason.
I loved his winning the Carter two back. He's a
late runner. Del Mar's speed favor and typically, but that
(01:12:15):
race is loaded with lots and lots of quality speed
and he's going to get the right setup. I believe
he accepts a third in the True North to book him.
Dano and Milliken, and both those horses I think would
win this or he's they're much better company, and I
think Crazy Crazy Mason the one horse is going to
(01:12:35):
win the Bing Crosby at del Mar today.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
My Benno the cold Front.
Speaker 5 (01:12:40):
Yeah, another cold front, and he is a gray four
year old son. He's trained by Greg Sacho Christopher Elliott,
who just lost the bug, but he's won some races
at Saratoga. He was even involved in a spell and
bounced right back from it. He's, uh, he's going out
there to ride him. So's he's you know, he's an
(01:13:02):
up and coming jockey. His dad, Stewart Elliott, was Smarty
Jones's writers. So the the the last rates at del
mar is an entry level allowance number one. Souchette souchet,
I guess it's soouchet pardon my friends.
Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
Eighth to one on morning line.
Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
I don't know if he'll be that For John Sadler,
I really like him. In the finaleum I built some
multi race bets around him and got a couple of
steaks Grade three events at Woodbind. I don't know those
in front of me, but I glanced at him there.
They got a pretty decent card.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Up there, or so.
Speaker 5 (01:13:41):
I'm sure you're a big fan of Toronto.
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
I've never been up there.
Speaker 5 (01:13:47):
Yeah, I haven't been there since they built a casino,
but I went before that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
I went to the Breeders Cup.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
There in the Colon and the Trillium.
Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
Yeah, Colleen and the Trillium like Kaylin or Greatness I
think is in one of those series. Yeah, so I'm
excited to see her run today at Woodbine And yeah,
that's got some got the Glen Falls tomorrow, the Eddie Reid.
But we got some big races also. But of course
(01:14:16):
we've got the Jim Dandy Day today and then next
Saturday it's gonna be the Grade one Whitney. I don't
think that mind frame is gonna come back in that,
but I mean he could is. He's either gonna run
in that or he's just gonna sit on him for
four weeks pear since he's in there white a barrio others.
It's gonna be a really good race. I'm excited to
(01:14:38):
see that, the Whitney and and yeah and and yeah,
that's well. The other one though, is the four Star
Dave that's coming up. That might be the Saturday after that.
But Johannes ran a head second in the Breeders Cup mile.
He's coming back for it for in that race or
(01:15:00):
Shress and excited to see him get back on the
turf this year. They got a real good race today
in Europe the King George the sixth and Queen Elizabeth
Group one race and only got five horses, but four
of them including Rebel Romance, who's gonna be like the
third choice and as a two time Breeders Cup winner
(01:15:20):
and comes off a good winning the Hardwook at Royal Ascot.
That's a really good, like long distance race this morning
at like eleven ten and then on later. I think
I don't know what day this week it is, maybe Wednesday.
A Field of Gold is running or Fields of Gold
Field of Gold is running in the one mile Sussex Stakes.
(01:15:44):
And he could be the best smiler in the in
the world. He's stepping up the face older horses, but
first time no so excited to see that race overseas.
So we got some good overseas racing as well this week, Richie.
Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
To hel you keep up.
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
With Yeah, well, I.
Speaker 5 (01:16:01):
Mean, I'm you know, that's sort.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
Of my job. Yeah, I understand.
Speaker 5 (01:16:05):
Yeah, uh so, yeah, thanks to our so for having
me on.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Well, I really appreciate you coming in. Oh I'm not.
Speaker 5 (01:16:13):
Gonna be here next week, I'm all Put'm on vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
So are you?
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Yeah? Oh, my so we'll see you again in two weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
I'll take restly some pics. Okay, you know, maybe even Friday,
if I remember.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
And shout out to forget.
Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
We're going to see a journalism sovereignty rivalry down the road.
Speaker 5 (01:16:35):
We're definitely gonna see then the Breeders Cup Classic barring,
you know, I mean, if they say healthy, that's what
I never said coming. The problem with the journalism is
is that Sovereignty wins the Jim Dandy and the Traverse
and then say they run one two, but it's journalism
sovereignty and the Breeders Cut Classic.
Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
You know, he could have gone and running him and
the and and.
Speaker 5 (01:16:57):
He doesn't run in the Travers, say charge runs in
the Pacific class he I think the voters might still
give the award to sovereignty because I mean, the Derby
and the Belmont are going to carry weights. And the
fact is that he was undefeated, you know, you know
since of the Derby except for that race.
Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
It's just hard for it to me.
Speaker 5 (01:17:22):
If soberty wins today, if they want to go after
a three year old championship, which they might, they're pretty
much sportsman's It seems like I mean, they were. They
didn't have to run on the Pretnus, and they ran
Journalism and the Preakness, and they after the Belmont, after
he had run in all three legs, they sort of
indicated they may wait till the Travers are Pacific Classic
and then they just come back and run into has School.
(01:17:44):
So if the horse is doing good, they may just say, heck,
let's ship him cross and plus he's traveled so much.
But they may go for it because it's that's sort
of the Eclipse Award. If he beats him in the
Travers Journalism, that's a big f But if he was
to do so, he have a chance for all the
hardware and the Breeders Cup Classic. That's no guarantee, especially
(01:18:06):
if they ran second and third of journalism was better
than Sovereignty and the Breeder's Cup Classic, he might still
be all to edge him if he beat him in
the Traverse.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
But I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:18:14):
It's it's all hypothetical. But the smart money bo is
on Journalism staying in the Pacific, staying home for the
Pacific Classic, and the next time that sovereignty and journalism
will meet will be the Breeders Cup Classic at Del
Mar in early November.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
All right, jeez, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
Thank you. You're welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Appreciate you coming in old for him.
Speaker 5 (01:18:38):
All right, it's good to see you all.
Speaker 3 (01:18:39):
Take careeah, I'll see you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Thanks James, all right, thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
I have great vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
All right. Well, Prince of Monaco won a great one
dom all for two years of two you. It was
the fastest too, ever by the noted Spikes Town and
a champions sprinter, and in fact Prince of Monaco is
the only only son of Spikestown to win a Grade
one stakes as a two year old, and Spikes down
Side one hundred and forty five six hundred Pennsylvanico won
(01:19:08):
his first started two one by eight, spending six parlongs
one on nine flat to win the Grade three Best
Foul Stakes at del Mar, and his second start one
by four and a quarter length and stakes record time.
Then he won the seventh furlong Grade one Delmo for
twity seven eight to one twenty two and three one
going away. He made but two starts as a three old,
(01:19:30):
both in Grade one stations at Saratoga Bunch and Pence
back in the Grade one Woodie Stevens. He came from
flying from sixteen links out of it to finish second
by half length. Then in h Allen Jerkin Stakes he
finished second by nose again after a trouble trip game performance.
Pennsylv Monica is a grand individual. He sold for nine

hundred and fifty thousand dollars as a year in That'll tell
you something. Go take a look at him at Cleveron
Farm where he completed their successful first season stud this year.
Thank you Breaders. Also completing his first season that stud
is the well named bright future Grade one winner by
the Greek Curling We'll be hearing more about him soon.
(01:20:14):
Just called Jacob West eight five nine nine eight seven
two three three particular look at the website which is
Clavenfarm dot com. Well when when Jackie and I moved
to Bourbon County, gosh, this until long ago, I guess
about forty years ago. We checked around to seeing where
(01:20:34):
we should do our insurance take up insurance needs. Wanted
to do business locally in the name it kept popping
up was Hope Well Company. So we had a talk
with with Ted McLean and the Hope Will Company and
we've been doing business with him ever since. And I'm
very glad that we did that. The Hopeful Company is
(01:20:56):
believe me, has kept us more than satisfied. They're independent
insurance agency. They don't work for an insurance company. They
work for you, and then they use a carefully selected
group of financially sound, reputable companies, and they offer the
best coverage at the most competitive price. Great people to
(01:21:18):
do business with. And I'll tell you what Hopeful Company
is prepared to provide you with a no cost, no
obligation review and comparison of your insurance. I was talking
to somebody about that just the other day and told
them to call Hope. Well, I hope they did. That's course,
the company was founded back in nineteen fifty five. It's
(01:21:39):
a full service insurance agency. Just give them a call
eight five nine nine eight seven two three four five
And Betty had to stop by the officer at the
eight twenty Main Street right there in Paris, Kentucky. And
they'll do a great job for you. They have for
us in the years now. And we depend on a
whole lot for our insurance. Everything we have to ensure
(01:22:02):
is is insurable. It was with them, all right, Well,
we've got Brian Wallbridge on the phone with me now
from down to Mississippi State, And Brian, how are you
this morning?
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 6 (01:22:17):
How about you?
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Well, I'm here by myself, so uh other than my
man here that carrying the load over here keeping me straight.
Speaker 4 (01:22:32):
But uh, Brian, I'm not much help over here.
Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Start talking and I will listen. How is that all right? No,
that sounds good.
Speaker 6 (01:22:49):
We had a pretty interesting tumor that doctor Shay you
came up last year and I couldn't come up because
of my surgery. Took out of a cold yesterday. The
I didn't get to hear the whole story on it,
but I think he came in for retained testical of
being a crypto kid, and she went to take the
(01:23:10):
retained testicle out and he ended up having a tumor
called a teratoma, which yeah, I know other uh well,
mayors usually get those new other other colts to get them,
but I can't remember ever seeing one and anything that
wasn't the marror.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
But the reason that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:30):
Teratoma is so unusual and so usually affects the older,
so it sasn't you know you would find and you're
just doing your texts on the mass they really don't
have any effects of it other than that cancer. So
it continues to grow. But when you take those tero
(01:23:51):
thomas out, their definition is there a tumor that's made
up of three different tissues. So they can be like
they can even have hair in them, they can have teeth,
they can have all kinds of crazy things on them
because they are you know, three different tissues of the
body make up those those different those masses, and so
(01:24:13):
took it out, and you know, some of those things
get really big. I've seen some biggest NFL football is
taken out sometimes, and so they're they're on the list
for mayors that that have a strange overa. It won't
it won't affect how they cycle or anything, but those
those things can get really big. That we're coming out
(01:24:35):
of breeding season. But I think all this stuffs pretty interesting.
That the most common i mean cancer of the over
isn't very common, but the most common one that gets
one's called a granulos athika cell timber, and those will
affect them. They they almost always if they have a
Grandsaika cell timber, they'll have one really big ovary or
(01:24:55):
a large ovary that has the cancer and then it
makes a horror on that shuts down the other ovaries.
The other ovary will be the size of a walnut.
They're teeny tiny because they're shut downs that hormone that
they make. And those when you ultra sound them, they'll
almost like soap bubbles because what their follicles is really
(01:25:16):
that what that that that kind of cancer made, so
it looks like over it's got a whole bunch of
follicles on it. And some of those can be huge.
I can remember they took one of a horse at
Albert one time, the size of the watermelon. You know,
those those tumors will keep going. But those mayors, they
will show signs and almost always they don't come in
to eat. Occasionally you'll hear about about mayors having some
(01:25:42):
stadion light behavior because they those tumors can make the testosterone.
But those are are the most common. And then you
know other things making ovaries being large is when the
mayor ovulates, there'll be some there there's bleeding where her
follicle was, and sometimes they can get a hematoma and
(01:26:05):
just you know, the where the follicle was will fill
up with blood and and when she ovulates, she even
hasking things in that follicle that kind of helped the
blood to not clock, because if you've got some blood
clotting there, potentially her egg you get stuck in the
follicle and wouldn't go anywhere, so that can potentiate it. So, uh,
(01:26:25):
you know, I'm mad if you haven't met with a
big overarya and you cat didn't know where she was
in her cycle before, necessarily, then a heemotoma would be
on the list and they could get pretty big and
look pretty weird sometimes and then probably the one that
I see, you know that it would be a problem
in Kentucky because thank everybody, she sees enough over ease
(01:26:48):
uh to be pretty comfortable with it. But when when
mayors are coming in in the spring, you know, as
the days get longer, they can get follicles and then
may not ovulate those follicles, and then they might grow
another follicle, and sometimes those overs can just look weird.
They can kind of look like an early granulosis cell timber,
(01:27:10):
that one we're talking about that makes them not be
in heat. But those manors will still cycle because they're
just they're just early and they're ovaries and their reproductive
hormones just haven't turned on yet because it's early in
the season. Because one thing is easy to forget, it's
here in the northern hemisphere, prime cyclicity or where every
(01:27:36):
marriage should be cycling naturally doesn't occur until June fifteenth.
So we're we're really pushing some of these marriage you
know that we're trying to get pregnant early in the
year with lights and all. That's why you use lights,
you eternalmond.
Speaker 7 (01:27:50):
But but as far as Mother nature goes, is not
the June fifteenth or there in their peak, you know,
where everybody should be obviuols waiting ready to go old face.
Speaker 6 (01:28:03):
Yeah, so a little bit on ovarian tumors, but it was.
It's pretty interesting because I, like you, you can see
those tumors, those those terratmas cut open, and you know,
it's crazy. I mean, they have like little form, They
have formed teeth and mom and hair that really grows sometimes.
(01:28:24):
I didn't I wasn't there when they took this one out,
so I don't know what was in it. But they
could be a pretty strange looking thing when they're cut open.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Oh but well, I just do not little.
Speaker 6 (01:28:41):
Probably could have been.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
How's your cold? Doing he's doing well.
Speaker 6 (01:28:48):
I got a picture of him the other day and
he's been out in the sun allot because he looks
like a buckskin now, but he looks like he's drown
quite a bit. So I can't wait to go up
there and see him. I probably won't even recognize him
when I see him again. Well, I didn't recognize him
last time I saw him.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Well, if the grass is awful good this year, yes, sir,
that's one.
Speaker 6 (01:29:12):
Of the reasons I sent him up there. The grass
I have here is not going to be like Kentucky grass.
So he needs to be up there eating that good grass.
And you know he's in a that's probably a twenty
acre paddock with with his buddies to get get a
good exercise.
Speaker 2 (01:29:30):
Yeah, well, he needs to be you know, good upper
and playing and fight with his uh with company to that.
But that's good for good for him.
Speaker 6 (01:29:40):
Yes, sir, there are him and the mini I'm not
sure horse Farley. They're big buddies. But you know he
needs to be up there run with his thoroughbred friends.
Speaker 2 (01:29:50):
Yeah. Yeah, when you're coming up.
Speaker 6 (01:29:54):
I'm still September. The students there, they're test schedules kind
of a man. That's because they're taking all there used
to taking like five different classes at a time. So
I've got to ask them. They were gonna tell me
or send me some possible dates, and I think they
forgot to do it. So I gotta track them down
(01:30:15):
and start planning that because really not too far from
being and where it's a month away.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
You're right, all right, my friend. Well we'll talk to
you next week, all right, see you letter we last

look at this. Last Sunday at Saratoga, the Great two

another sire list, the nations leading freshman's sire Yopon stands

(01:40:21):
The's ranks number one. This is a nation's leading saze
Yeah ranks is all sires, and the nation's leading sire,
of course, is in the mission. He's got a seven
million dollar lead over the second ranked horse. I think
he's going to breeze in. He is also the leading
sire of twenty twenty five stakes winners with fifteen. Stakes
(01:40:43):
officiers were forty four. Greatest stakes winners were ten. Grade
one stakes winners are three. So you name it and
miss mission in the minsief is number one. You want
a states winner and your stable look to the statue
over Spencefuret Farm, the Breeders Farm. Now's the time to
start looking. By the way. This give was called the
Days or Brown Tomorrow or Daniel eight five nine, nine,
(01:41:06):
four years old thirty in the website is spendthriftfarm dot com.
We were talking about uh with Charles John Nicholson earlier,
about Sally Van and how a nicey been to everybody
had old friends that said, sat Sally Van service anytime
(01:41:27):
they need. Well. For instance, we had reached the point
where those two old horses we had needed to be moved.
Speaker 6 (01:41:36):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
I'd gotten too damn old to be taking care of horses.
Anybody with a cane shouldn't be taking care of horses anyway.
So I called Michael Blowing and said, Michael, can can
you got room for these two old horses over it
had old friends and he said, bring them on. So
I called Sally and it wasn't no time that they
(01:42:03):
showed up and they sent a big van in for
these two old horses. They were used to that trailer
that we had, but they walked right in. We're kind
of surprised they walked right in and the way they went,
and we never got a bill for it. That's the
kind of people that they are over at sally Van Service.
(01:42:24):
They've been in vendors for a long time and you know,
during that time they've taken curse ye runners, some of
the greatest runners of all time have been entrusted to
them and say, it's pretty obvious that their vehicles and equipment,
you know, are in great condition. To see. The most
important factor when to get right down to it, is
(01:42:46):
the ability and experience of the person behind the wheel.
And they're real proud of their drivers over at sally
Van Service. Their experienced driver and experienced horsemen, and that's
a winning combination. Why don't you think of out that
the next time you ship your horse. I don't care
if it's across the country, across the county. When you
load your horse into a sally Van, you can depend
(01:43:09):
on the fact that the person behind it was one
of the best in the business. Great outfit. Love them
sally Van Service. We wouldn't have it, by the way,
and we would never call anybody else, and that's why.
But one of the reasons is that there there's the
safest way to the Winter's Circle. Let's see quite a
(01:43:31):
few minutes here they are running the Mammoth Oaks and
that was started a long time ago. It's an old race.
But I was looking down at some of the winners
of that. I think maybe Room First Flight and Greece
(01:43:52):
and Queen the Evening Out and missed them on Levy
Firm Policy, Lamb Chop, Dark Mirage, Bloom, Desert Viction. They
all won that race. But one I'm really particularly interested
in winning that race. I pulled a pedigree on her
just for the hell of it. And there's a Philly
(01:44:14):
named Dorothy Brown and she won it in nineteen forty six,
and she's got one of those pedigrees that I put
it familiar with. As a matter of fact, she is
by Brown King not too familiar with him. Out of
(01:44:35):
Dorothy b by Diavolo and visits Joe W. Brown bred
Dorothy Brown. And I don't know if you remember this
place and night it's all subdivision now, but it's right
on the corner of Brin Station Road, and the bypass
(01:45:00):
was where Miss Brown's farm was. It was on it
would be on the the south corner, the northeast corner
would be and anyway, it was a big white house
up on the hill. And she bred us into a
lot of nice horses, and one of them was with
(01:45:24):
Dorothy Brown out of Dorothy B. Dorothy B was by
the envelope. She was also the damn incidentally of Brownie.
I don't know if you remember Brownie or not, but
a few were around a few years back. The triple
(01:45:45):
dead heat the Carder handicap between Boss With and Brownie
and wait a bit in that order from real out.
They carried one hundred and twenty seven thousand, one hundred
and twenty seven pound on a hundred fifteen one hundred
and eighteen and it had a triple dead heat. And
I believe that's the only time I've ever had a
(01:46:06):
triple dead heat, especially in the major race like the
Carter handicap, and Brownie was but cohort and he also
won the Wilson and the Bay Shore and the Princeton
handicaps and the Camden handicapped. For a very nice resource
that was Brownie and Doctor Brown was also the damn
(01:46:26):
of Dorothy B. Junior, who was a damn of Tunacious.
But Chaladan Chaladan stood at the hat on a Russell K.
Pike over there, and he used to when miss our
Drymond had that place. Now it's our own. Well, there
(01:46:47):
was a there's a training center there there anyway, But
she was a damn Dorothor B Junior was a damn
of Tunacious who went twenty wins and Gigannick who won
twenty one wins. They pretty much dominated racing down at
the fairgrounds. And it was said this is a fedigree
(01:47:12):
also of some pretty good horses, you know. Dorothy Brown
herself was the damn of Bobby Briccado, son of Nachez,
that won twenty one stakes. And he was this big
time sprinter down at the fairgrounds, one over a half
million dollars. And this was back in the early fifties,
(01:47:33):
you know. But he was a big tim sprinter down
in the fairgrounds. Although he did stand out and go
up and win the Carter Handicap in New York and
the Pomona Candicap, but then they sent him out to
California and one of the great stay in racers out
there was the San Juan Capistrano at Roiland three quarters
(01:47:54):
and damn if he didn't lead all the way to
win that. He also won the Saturday Edy Handicap Tampa
handicapped twice on the Pomona San Marcos San Pasqual. I
mean he was a hell of a racer and uh,
but anyway, see Bobby Riccardo was out of Dorothy Brown,
(01:48:15):
and so also was jet Journey by Jet Pilot nineteen
forty seven Kentucky Derby winner that stood over on h
for missus at a main Change Farm wanted as a
matter of fact, that race for main Change Farm.
Speaker 3 (01:48:34):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
It was, it's a wonderful pedigree and it's.
Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
That was. Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
And I remember quite a bit of those horses in there,
which James was here earlier, was talking about a lot
of these stakes they're going to run today. I better
talk about a little bit something about the Thurborg Training
center out here. We've got a bunch of mixed breed
cats out here that we fed this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:49:04):
And they were waiting on us. Wit that was the
welcoming committee for us.
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
I know there's another one that's like a Persian kind
of cat that he didn't show up as I haven't
seen that one he's been here.
Speaker 3 (01:49:15):
Okay, Uh, this is.
Speaker 2 (01:49:17):
The first morning he's missed. I hope he's all right.
Maybe somebody's took him home.
Speaker 4 (01:49:21):
He was almost like they knew you had some food
for him.
Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
Yeah, they waiting. How they know it's Saturday morning. For
the rest, we've got.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Some kind of internal clock.
Speaker 2 (01:49:31):
That the guy behind us is, uh follow that stays here,
you know during the week. He keeps cat food up here,
you know, so he he feeds them.
Speaker 4 (01:49:48):
Well, he has set high expectations for the cats.
Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
I guess, so, yeah, and the cats are looking for him.
He's got a lot of cat food stashed up here. Okay, yeah,
I use the one I brought well, and Michael usually
brings it some out. But let all those Kansas stuff
over there.
Speaker 4 (01:50:06):
Well, the good thing is don't keep the mice away.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
Well, they don't have much shot around here. No they don't.
Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
They don't, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:50:16):
That's it. But that's here at the training center, and
we were training the cats out here. Got a bunch
of black ones this morning. We've got three black ones
and a tiger. When it looks like he's an old
kind of beat up kind of guy. Yeah, the old
Tiger Cat Training Center. If people don't know where it is,
it's on the election in Paris Road. It's uh. When
(01:50:41):
you're coming out of election, you go back to the
country club, going to come down a couple of miles
and it's right there. And it's a great place to
train your horse. As a matter of fact, if you
got you want to break you earlier out here and
get them started, you can do it because they've got
all the facilities for everything. It's we got, of course,
(01:51:06):
the two tracks once a mile track one five eight.
You use the smaller track down in the center, which
for the babies to keep them awaiting. The horses are
running up the track. We weren't ever ready to move
up and move them up. The tracks are great. I
know I used. I did the clocking down here for
(01:51:27):
ten years, and I bet you I I wouldn't see
the horse pull up bad. Maybe once a year, maybe
twice a year on the track. And there horses probably
shouldn't have been out here in the first place. But uh,
it's the tracks are really good. To take good care
of them. They got the mile track and the five
(01:51:47):
aches a mile track kind of start the gate while
you can train your horses and starting the gate. They
got an official clocker who does a much better job
than I did when I was out here. But I
loved it. I I couldn't blue they were paying me
to come out here and look at horses, you know,
So it was I've I. I stayed for ten years
(01:52:08):
as the cocker out here. Finally my hearing started to
go and I had to had to give it up
and go scoot to you wave.
Speaker 4 (01:52:19):
It's been busy out here this morning, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
It was. It usually is, you know, although this time
of day, in this heat, they're usually off the tracks
by now. They send out down there, but people are
still around here. They got to grass gallop gallops out here.
You can take them out in the backyard. Wonderful facilities,
and one of the best things is the atmosphere. It's
(01:52:44):
real quiet. Horses do well here. You can graze your
horse and stall rents were reasonable, and I would call
out here and ask if if she just got one
or two stalls you know that you need. I would
call out here and ask. The number out here is
eighty five nine two nine three, eighteen fifty three and
(01:53:07):
see if they've got anything. If they don't have anything,
I would suggest that you get in your car and
drive in. They'll let you drive in. And there's nobody
on the gates down there or anything. And started walk
going from barn to barn and ask people forgot anybody
that's got a couple of stalls to sub lease, because
(01:53:30):
you have to pay for lease on the stall, whether
it's a horse in it or not. You know, stall rent,
let's stall rent. It's very very reasonable. I forget exactly
what it was. I was right here in this barn
up about where we are now. I was like the one,
the last horse I had out here, Tubby. Well, I
(01:53:51):
was gonna say Tubby, Yeah, Tubby. And I bought Tubby
for a dollar and he won me a one jack
and I a Junip Cup.
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
Then when did you purchase Toppy? You know?
Speaker 2 (01:54:06):
Oh god, he was like a two year old when
we got him, gave him, bought him for a dollar,
and they were gonna get him to me. But my wife,
being a lawyer, she said, uh, when his horse wins
the British Cup, we don't want to claim an him,
you know. So at the Washington here and there, Yeah,
(01:54:30):
I'm gonna have to keep my car going in the
car if you want to go.
Speaker 3 (01:54:34):
I don't make for great reading.
Speaker 2 (01:54:37):
Anyway. But it's like I said, they got grass gallops
at her a glopant gallop in and there's a quiet atmosphere,
and you didn't raise yours reasonable rents And it's just
a great place at a great people, great management. Here
it team at the third training Center on the Paris back.
Speaker 4 (01:54:59):
How much have we got?
Speaker 3 (01:55:01):
Two minutes?
Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
Got two minutes?
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
So can I ask you a question here while we've
got a couple of minutes?
Speaker 2 (01:55:06):
Yeah, please do.
Speaker 4 (01:55:08):
What do you think about the Kentucky Oaks being moved
to primetime eight o'clock? That was announced earlier this week Primetime?
What eight o'clock new start time for the Kentucky Oaks
in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (01:55:20):
Yeah, it's dark.
Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
They're gonna move it to eight o'clock on NBC.
Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
Well, that's first shared in May. They've been to turn
the damn lights on.
Speaker 4 (01:55:30):
Yeah, well they're not moving to Derby, just the Oaks.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
Just the Oaks. Well the light I guess, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:55:37):
They got lights. So they think they can increase the
viewership and get it to one million or so, well,
let me say they can increase it by one million viewers.
So I think back in May it was eighteen million viewers,
so they look to increase those numbers. Yeah, but the
(01:55:57):
restaurants are having to fit over in Louisville right now, Yes,
because of the new start time.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
I don't worry about anybody.
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
I don't either.
Speaker 4 (01:56:07):
I'm just kind of presenting the arguments there that there's
two sides of it. NBC and Churchill downs moved it
to eight and the restaurants and how that's going to
affect all the derby parties and things like that on
Friday night. So it's kind of an interesting argument.
Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
Yeah, you said, Doobi Potage You mean oot.
Speaker 4 (01:56:24):
Oaks parties, Derby. I don't get invited to any of them,
so it doesn't matter to me. I'll be at home.
So we got about thirty seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Okay, Well, I want to thank everybody for tuning in.
I'm sorry that jacket couldn't make it today, but it's
was one of those things.
Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
Yeah, we made it, we made it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:45):
Thank you, Bola, really appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (01:56:46):
I'll enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:48):
And heaving down at the radio station. We'll talk to
you Guys. Next week
Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
Five
