Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaughd and Jack Pilgrim, coming to
(00:23):
you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios and beautiful today
is extremely beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Guys got a got a pretty good show. We got
the Big Dog coming on, we got the NBA Playoffs
going on. We had the NFL Draft this weekend and
bo we ain't talked a whole lot about Kentlan because
I don't go to Kenland because I don't understand horse
racing and I don't like crowds. But apparently that wrapped
up this weekend, so we're gonna talk about those things.
(00:57):
And we have baseball and softball on on at one
o'clock today and hold on, boat, and I need you
to explain this to me. Why does this say you
can listen to it on the UK Sports Network. Listen
to UK Sports Network and they both play at one
o'clock and a both friend lex to get there.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
We will split the broadcast because we will have UK
Baseball on six thirty WLAP, the home of Sunday Morning
Sports Talk, and then UK Softball will be on ninety
eight point five bull Icons. So if you have your
handy iHeartRadio app on your mobile device where you could
tune in onto six thirty WLAP and listen to Sunday
(01:32):
Morning Sports Talk. We don't promo that enough, do we
We do not? We need to do that, we don't.
You can also tune into Baseball on WLAP or switch
over and listen to UK Softball. By the way, speaking
of UK Baseball and softball, I have to give a huge,
huge shout out to Gavin Allen. He's one of our
part time producers board operators here. Not only did he
(01:54):
do our horse racing show on one of our other
stations yesterday morning at eight am, but he also did
the UK Baseball doubleheader yesterday with Darren Hendrick. That's not
easy to be here all day from seven thirty until
I think ten thirty. He got out of here last night.
I mean that just ate up his whole day and
(02:14):
his whole weekend. I've got to give a little shout
out and thank you to Gavin Allen for working hard yesterday.
Again not easy.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
That means he went fifteen hours. That's seeing another human being.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
No. I was in here doing UK Softball and the
first thing I did when I got here at four o'clock,
I looked at him and I said, do you need
a break?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
That doesn't both, That doesn't influence your job security, does it?
Because I like working with you, well, I appreciate de
young wooper snapper to come in here and work you
from out underneath this.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
But I need the backup, Billy and I need the backup.
We need the support. And Gavin Allen has been there
for the last year for us. And I was in
here doing UK Softball and I got finished, walked over
to the other studio and I looked at Gavin. I said,
go home, go home, I'll finish up UK Baseball And
he said, now there's only four more innings left. He said,
I can do it. I can make it. He was
a trooper yesterday. I really thought he was going to
(03:06):
go home, and I wanted them to. But you know,
being a board out, being a producer at a radio
station and you pull an all day shift like that,
it only makes you a better producer, makes you stronger
kudos to him.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
iHeart if you can get us some snacks in here,
not really for myself, because I would leave them alone.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
If Bow, if Bo, my guys are over here.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Pulling those those management hours, those hospital hours, then uh yeah,
get a couple of snacks in here so they can
have something when they go in the kitchen. I won't
touch them, I guarantee I will.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
I've heard that before. I won't. I won't.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
The Only reason I touched them because I thought they
were there for community purposes and I did not know it.
The one the one batch I did not know is yours,
but the community ones. I thought they're there for communal reasons,
and I communited them with them.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I'm still upset about the ice storm snacks back in
genuine I hold a grudge. I won't forget it.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Larry Vaught, how are things going this morning?
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Going well? Had a wonderful week.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
Been in Pidgeon Forwards this week, so we've got to
do a lot of neat things. Got to make my
annual visit to Dollywood. Saw the best show at Dollywood
I've ever seen in all the years I've been going.
Got to go to a Ray theater. Saw a wonderful
show there. Skyland Ranch got to go up. They've got
a new ride, Anthony. It's up on top of the
mountain to start with. Then they've got a poll it's
(04:27):
about one hundred and fifty feet in there, and it
lifts us swing up and spends you around, kind of
like you're on a Merry go round or something, and
you can put you up about five hundred feet above
the parkway.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
And myself and one.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
Of the people from the severe ViLTE Tourism were the
first two non park employees to get to ride it
this week, So that was kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
As they would say in Twinsburg Heights, Ohio, Larry Vaught,
Hell no, not doing it.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
I don't do road coasters.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
It's very smooth.
Speaker 6 (05:01):
So you just take the chair lift up to the
top of the mountain and you get off and you
walk down. You get on this they raised up another
one hundred hundred and fifty feet something like that. Then
you've got great view of the Smoky mountains in the
whole area down here.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
It's terrific.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
So it's like going up on a ski like a
ski lift kind of well.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
You go up on the you get do that to
get up to the top of the mountain right then
once you get off, then you get off that, then
you go and you ride. You get on this ride
that will officially open sometime later this week, and it's
a very calm, relaxing, very scenic view up there.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
What if so you guys tested out, what if some
of the boats they left, some boats out, or some
boats were loosing?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
So why the heck? W what you do that?
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Well?
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Why would you be the first one?
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Well it sounds it seemed like a really good opportunity.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Now, we both did kind of look at each other
when they told us we were going to be the
first non park employees. The thoughts that you just mentioned
did run briefly zip through our heads that well, maybe
this wasn't the best, but we were there, so we
went ahead and did it.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Jack Pilgrim, you do any thrill seeking? How is your weekend.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
Not as special as Larry Bock? Clearly? And I'm not
getting the invite to be one of the first to
ride that, right. I saw the video of it, Larry,
you crushed it, So yeah, nothing as spectacular as that.
I've really enjoyed being outside hanging out with little Man,
watching him run around and have the NFL Draft on
in the background. It was a very big weekend for
the Kentucky Wildcats too, coming off the board with Maxwell
(06:31):
Harrison and Deyon Walker going to my new England Patriots
rivals Buffalo Bills kind of have this weird feeling. Am
I supposed to hate them now? And do I have
to change allegiances? I don't know how this works, so
I'm sure we'll talk through that. But yeah, it's been
been a heck of a weekend.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, and little Billy kind of see two guys go
in the NFL Draft this year. I don't remember how
many it was last year. I think it was pretty
It was better last year than it was this year.
But so he's not as spoiled as he has been
with UK football, considering you know, the beating the Floridas
and those things. But uh, the two people being drafted
this year, one of them probably not so happily. The
(07:12):
other one was a lot of people. Was a surprise.
But I was told this all along. Maybe Billy is
he is? He is he keeping up with this? Are
you keeping notes that he understands, like what's reality and
what's not reality?
Speaker 7 (07:29):
We're keeping expectations low so we can be we can
be pleasant, pleasantly, pleasantly pleased whenever the time comes. But
now we're we're growing up in the UK football household
one way or the other, so we're going to enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
And Larry vaugh we're gonna do a lot of heavy
football talking on the first hour. We got some basketball
news as well. We'll get to that a little bit
later before before Jack leaves. But we do have the
big Dog coming on to confirm and disconfirm rumors and
whatnot and tell us, you know, kind of how things unfolded,
right eleven o'clock.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Yeah, Vince Sparrow will be on with us at eleven
o'clock to talk about the draft with Maxwell Harrison, Dion Walker,
maybe some free agent possibilities for other players. I know
that Eli Cox is headed to the Houston Texans, where
he'll be reunited with Zach Kinser as the offensive line coach.
So I'm sure Vin's going update this on some other
potential free agent possibilities for UK players.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
And uh, before we get into I guess the UK stuff,
And I know this ain't your cup of tea. You
don't mind stirring the pot. And that's fine with me
because I don't mind stearring the pot either. And on
this show we really relay just the facts or just
the news. But the shador Sanders going dropping out of
(08:52):
the top ten to the fourth round and even Dion
Walker got drafted before him.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
What do you take of? What is your take on
the should Sanders tha.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Don't and don't bow out with some mumbo jumbo like
give us a realistic thing? Do you think Dion's in
a way? Do you think he's not that good of
a quarterback? Do you think he's being blackball?
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Uh? What do you think about the Chaduer Sanders?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Uh? Well, I probably don't know. I probably don't know
enough to think.
Speaker 6 (09:21):
As I was telling you, I just don't ever remember
a player that it won two weeks ago was being
mentioned as potential one or two pick and you're still
sitting there on Saturday afternoon waiting to see.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
If he's even going to get drafted. And I don't
I mean I would always have thought in.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
The NFL they take judge just strictly based on talent,
that didn't matter who what kind of baggage you might
bring with you or not. We've seen a lot of
guys that had baggage drafted a lot higher. And it's
hard for me to believe that all of those draft
analysts are that far wrong with their with their expectations,
(09:59):
because that's what they do for a living. And most
of those guys, I mean, they don't always get it
exactly right, like maybe with will Levis, but who dropped
what to the second pick of the first round, But
they don't usually miss it that far.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
So I think there had to be some.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Things that we just don't know know about. I was
going to ask you, I don't buy the theory that
he's that he's one on one interview sessions with that
band with teams that he would have dropped from a
top five pick to a fourth rounder. And maybe maybe
I'm wrong, you'll tell me, tell me that, but I
just don't buy that part that the interviews could have
been that band to drop him that far.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
You misspoke and you said Will Levis dropped from the
first from the first, second pick in the first round.
You missed second pick in the second round.
Speaker 8 (10:41):
Yes, I was, yeah, uh yeah, yeah, no I I
And if you do believe that NFL, the NFL as
a business, because you do know that all entities, all
business entities, operate off money and revenue.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I have some from property in Scott County. I can
get you dirt cheap, Larry Vall, get it dirt cheap
for you over in Scott County. So just let me
know when we get off to you. I'll send you
the information that we can say that. But no, No,
the NFL as political as heck. The NFL, I believe.
I've told you my Tim Couch story when I ran
(11:19):
into a Brown's administrator and they kind of shook their
head and they were in Lexington and had.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
A lot of Browns gear on us. What are you
doing up?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
He said, you know where in Scoutland. And I was like, man,
that's messed up with you? I did to my boy.
And you may or may not remember the story, but
it he pretty much confirmed that they colluded against him,
and half the organization wanted him or was going to
work with him, but the powered people in the organization
did not want to put the pieces around him and
did not want to support him. And that's why Tim
(11:50):
wound up taking a whooping up in Cleveland.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
So I do remember you're talking about that before?
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Yes, I did Jack Pilgrim, what is your taking?
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I know you you more in the millennial reagion where
you guys have opinions. Do you have a you have
a take soft drong on what happened with a Chaudor
fall into the fourth round.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
Yeah, it was weird, man, because you know, you can't
make the argument that well, it was just teams that
you know, not a lot of teams needed quarterbacks this year,
and once they found their quarterbacks that there's weren't a
lot of spots for them. Well, you know, when you
see Dylan Gabriel going as early as he did, and
you know, Shuck and some of the other guys going
going as early as they did, it was like, okay,
(12:34):
well this is clearly personal. This is clearly you know,
to trying to make a point or trying to make
an example of him. And I just didn't think that's
you know, it was totally fair. But I kind of
had this like I don't know if it's even a conspiracy,
but just kind of this this thought in the back
of my mind of you know, we know Dion had
(12:54):
that slight conversation with with the Cowboys this past draft
cycle when I got rid of McCarthy and open the
door to you know, potentially Dion taking that job, and
you know, ended up not getting serious, but the whispers
were there that that was a possibility. Uh, Anthony, how
how likely is it that these teams saw you know,
(13:15):
the writing on the wall, the Giants especially or they
you know, those guys are sitting ducks right now waiting
for for them to get canned at the end of
this year when uh, you know, clearly Jackson Dart is
not the guy, and and and they end up get
getting fired. So how many front offices saw the writing
on the wall that Dion was going to you know,
(13:36):
kind of angle his way to you know, taking their job,
and partially you know, didn't didn't want to be part
of the uh you know, part part of the chaos
that was going to come with the next job cycle
of well, you know, Share is clearly the guy and uh,
you know Dion's angling to take take my job. How
much of that you can played a part of it?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
We had to get to a break, Jack Kimberman, that
is something that I've had to disc us is about.
So we can discuss that if you would like to
discuss the NFL draft anything, UK anything athletics, professional college
otherwise eight five nine to eight zero two two eight
seven eight five nine to eight zero cats. We will
be back after this. You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday
(14:17):
Morning Sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the Lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Fox. Stockyards Bank
has been your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four,
so head on over syb dot com for all your
banking and financial needs. Bo Robinson, I want to confirm
(14:53):
that there are snacks in the communal room, the community room.
The there's a little bit less now than there was
before we went into break, but there are snacks in there.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
So I heard the door open from the other studio
and then close, and then a couple of minutes later
I heard it open and close again, and then I
heard your voice. I knew what you were up to
back there. I didn't know what's in the fridge.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
I did leave some for you, though, thanks, So there
are some snacks in there, Jack Pilgrim, that was a
school of thought.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Like there's so many angles.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
And I know we want to talk more about the
UK guys than we are because I see a lot
of things going on in our Sunday Morning Sports Talk
thread about why Dion dropped.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
And I've been telling people.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Kind of why we went four and eight last year,
something about the leadership, something about the accountability, something about
the toughness some of these guys. And if I'm telling
you Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vauda, if I'm telling you
what I know about these guys, what I see on
the film, or I see just in person from.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Some of these guys, the NFL scouts see it.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
NFL scouts do not want to lose their job based
off of a early twenty something year old making decisions.
And in college, they can ask your teachers. They can
check your grades, they can check your you know, they
can check your class and see if you're going to class.
They can even go to your apartment and see if
you're in there. A lot of coaches may not do
that because that takes a lot of leg work, but
(16:25):
in the NFL, they don't do none of that. If
you don't show up to meet, and fine, if you
don't show up to practice, fine, if you don't show
up the weight lifting fined and you get fined a
couple of times, then you get cut, so you lose
your money. But if they invest in a lot of money,
then the head coach will lose his job because you
made a bad decision on picking somebody and you're not
(16:45):
probably not going to win if you don't have the
top tier athletes in the NFL, and all the NFL
players are top tier athletes. The ones that sustain are
the ones who study, understand the game, and don't make mistakes.
The less mistakes you make is how you get there.
Everybody's a top tier athlete when you're in the NFL
or just professional sports in general. The ones who make
the least mistakes are the ones who sustain. But you
(17:08):
are right, Jack Pilgrim. I do think you're right. I
do think any team that shul door would have went to,
especially the ones that are, you know, kind of like
the Giants as you said, and some of the other
teams that coaches are on the hot seat. As soon
as you mess up, they're gonna be waiting to slide.
Because Dion's been successful in Jackson State, Diwan was successful
at Colorado. As soon as you mess up, that is
(17:31):
the go to move, Like, let's just move Dion in here.
Like we got a Deon's in the background, let's just
move them in here. And I don't think really anybody
wants to coach looking over their shoulder knowing that well,
quote unquote, I'm doing air quotes. You don't see it,
but the franchise quarterback is on our roster, but we
(17:52):
can't win. Maybe it's because the morale, little locker room.
Maybe it's because of those things I just said, making
everybody buy into, come into workouts, coming to film study,
Uh guess all those things. So I do think there's
some too shouldure not going to certain teams because the
coaches were on the hot seat. And once you lose
three or four games, say you start the season two
(18:14):
and four knowing that it's really tough or even worse
zero and four or is zero and six, then that's
when the talk is going to start that, Uh well,
why not just move down in there? So Jack Pilgrim,
I do think you have a point about that. Have
you have you thought further into it or Is that
just something that's just a surface thought for you.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
Yeah, I mean I just kind of think that the
quarterback class was so weak that there had to be
some like, you know, is Dylan Gabriel that much better
than you know, even if your your most extreme take
on shadu as a talent, as a pure talent, the
difference between Shaduur and Tyler Shuck and Dylan Gabriel go
(18:58):
down the list of all those, you know, the grouping
of the guys that kind of got taken you know,
rounds two through five or whatever, like, the difference in
those like there had to have been something that made
the Giants want to trade up for Jackson Dart versus
just going you know, swinging for the fences with with
with Shador. Something had to be the difference. So I
(19:18):
was thinking, Okay, what what would be the difference? And
it's you know, beyond the I don't want to say arrogance,
but just the persona and the you know, the prime
time effect, you know, you do do you want to
bring that? But then it's like, okay, well it's New
York City, Like you want that kind of big personality
in New York. I don't know, something something had.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
We'll continue this conversation when we come back. You are
listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news
radio six thirty w l P.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w
l a P.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim man Larry Vaught. It's our
Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you by a
country boy Brewing ninety five and Bow and the crew
and Billy and them do not work nine to five.
(20:19):
They work nine to two whenever it is over.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
We actually work like six am until yeah, whenever, which
could be ten thirty at night, midnight, one am the
next morning.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
And that's is that the world of radio like we do.
We do whatever people listen to radio, Like when we
have storms, you got the storm trackers and those guys
Bailey and just constantly reporting going to the studios when
everybody else came making out of the house and you
just get the luxury of watching on TV or listening
(20:52):
to on radio on what's going on in the world
without any concerns.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
You gotta need a day. We need to make a
day for for radio broadcasters.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
There is like National disc Jockey Day's National Radio Day,
and nobody ever says Happy Radio Day to me or
National disc Jockey Day. You know why why Because I'm working.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
I'm gonna look it up. We're gonna find out it's.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Some sometime during the year. But I don't care. I
like doing this. I like being here with you, Larry
and Jack and Flavor of Love.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
On that day, we will restore the snack snack basket
in the community room.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
We will do that for you.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Of Bo Robinson, I want to snake snake steak dinner
from downstairs. If you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yeah, we can work that. We're gonna work it out.
I gotta look the date up. If anybody knows the date,
tweeted in to me or call in and tell us
what the National Radio Day. We're gonna take care of
Bow because everybody else is at home and they can
cook their own food. Bow and I don't get that opportunity.
So I'm gonna take care of both. We're gonna take
care of both. Larry Vaught, Max Harriston drafted first round
(22:02):
Buffalo Bills. I know there was scuttle, but that you know, man,
he could everything I've heard about him.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Great guy.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
He ran the fastest time at the combine hands obviously
with his interceptions before he got it injured. His interceptions
were up there, which that is one thing people, if
you're not really a football guy and you're a defensive player,
that linebackers are dbs who can turn the ball. It's
not just knocking the ball over covering your guy. If
(22:31):
you can get the ball back to the offense, if
your hands are good enough to catch the ball.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
That goes a long way, that makes you a whole
lot of money.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
And Max a lot of times when he had an
intercept opportunity to break the ball up or get an interception,
he typically got an interception, So I think that helped
him out. His combine did not hurt him at all.
Are you surprised that Max is going in the first round?
Speaker 5 (22:56):
And then I said, would you have a reason to
believe he wouldn't have?
Speaker 6 (23:00):
No, not After the time he ran into forty at
the combine, when he turned ever ahead, I think that
was there, which is if you remember a few months
back when we had Vince on with us.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
He talked about what that Max wanted.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
To go up there and do it the combine, and
then he thought he was going to be a first
round pick. And at that time I think Max was
probably Max was probably being projected as like a third
round pick and all. But I just love the story
because now you've got a guy I don't know we'll
see anything like this again, a four year guy that
came in and red shirted as a freshman and played
(23:36):
a little bit as a red shirt freshman. Because now
if that happens to you, you just transfer.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
You see a guy.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
Stay and develop like what he did. And so I
think he's a terrific story for how you. I hate
to say, he's kind of the throwback now how you
used to do it. I mean, I mean, good God,
it's hard to believe he could be considered, but that's
how it is. I want to hear Vince talk about that,
because he just don't get a change.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Now. I don't believe to.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Devellop we talked about we want coaches that develop the players,
but they're not going to stay. They don't play, So
I don't even I think you might as well st
away the red shirt ears, it seems to me. But
I love the Maxwell Harriston story. I love his reaction
at the draft.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
I love the families that supports him in the way
that he does. I just love his.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
Enthusiasm, the way he enjoys every day of life. And
I love that he is press conference up there or
he said that he told Josh Allen, if he picks
him off in practice, he's going to keep falling up,
becoming want to back, He's just going to keep run
over put it up to Troy. I mean, those are
the kind of things you just don't see from guys anymore.
It was really really fun and really happy for him.
(24:41):
And now he's going to make que about fourteen fifteen
million over the next three to four years, so that's
not too bad either.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
And before before I get to Jack, and the biggest
thing is and this is what I listen to now
because I can watch the players on the field and
see what they do.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
And I could also see players.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Playing time and see the body language because I know
what the next level is looking for. So like when
I do my podcast, when I talk to other people,
that's the kind of the things we look at. The
one thing that every person coach UH staff members love
Max Harrison. He deserves and everybody was hoping he would
go in the first round just because they say he deserves. Man,
(25:19):
he's a great guy. He's humble, he uh and the
way he speaks is confident. He's still humble because there
was a whole lot to be said about Dion and
Schador or whatever. But I know he says some things
that he's confident in himself in the interview process.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
But everybody around him say he's a great guy.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
He's respectful, he looks you in your eyes, he does
just just his communication with the people around him.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
I've heard nothing but great things on that aspect.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
And that's something that's being lost with the transfer a portal,
inn Il, because when you're making more money than your coaches,
you know, you tend to maybe not listen to him,
or you know, think that you got everything understood, and
then you got to you got the transfer a port
right behind you, where if I don't want to listen
to you, look, if you don't do what I tell
you all, if you don't do what I tell you
to do, I'll just go somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
So but I didn't hear any of those things about.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Max, and I just kind of want you to elaborate maybe,
and I'm you wouldn't say if you did, But everything
I heard was just opposite. So I don't have to
cover up anything that's ever been said about Max. It's
been nothing but praise for him.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
Yeah, and the way his teammates talked about anim when
he was out hurt last year and everything.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
I just think he's just.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
One of those guys that just did it the right way.
And you can't be anything but really really happy for him.
And I think he'll do terrific in the next level
because she said he's not afraid to work and do
what he's told, and I think that's something you just
can't teach and he's just got it.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
So really really happy for him.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Jack Pilgrim, did you know Max was going first round?
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (26:55):
Yeah, I mean when you run the speed that he
did and then have the uh, you know, infectious personality
and just being the star of the show in the
green room the first night man like that, It is
so easy to root for a guy like that, who,
you know, in everybody else's big moment, wanted to be
the you know, their ultimate hype man. Like when you're
(27:15):
the last person they see before going through that tunnel
going out to shake the commissioner's hand and you know,
grabbing their hat and the you know, their new jersey,
like you know, him being the last line of defense
who be like, hey, this is your this is your
time to shine.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
You've earned this.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Like that that is such a cool reward at to see.
So it just it felt like one of those deals
were like, you know, the football gods were going to
reward Maxwell Harriston. I mean we are We knew that
the intangibles and the stats and the you know what
he did at the combine and all that stuff, but
like it just felt like the good vibes of Night
one of the NFL Draft, we're going to reward uh
at Maxwell Harriston.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
We got to see that.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
And you know, like I said, he's with the Buffalo
Bills now suiting up with Dean Walker and h and
Ray Davis. That it's a pretty cool setup for him.
He's going to be a plug and play, you know,
probably day one starter for a Super Bowl contender.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I know, you a basketball guy, and when you get
enough UK basketball players on the team, then you become
foun I know you're a Celtics guy, but you know,
Celtics have been good before.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
You were born. They're good now.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
So but now that we have all these guys on
the Buffalo Bills, all right, can can you not?
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Can you? Can you pick two teams? Jack?
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Are you gonna You're a millennial, so you don't. You
don't have to be tied down to anything. You guys
can change your mind at any point in time.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
So, uh no, that's not how I operate where we
are AFC East rivals with the Buffalo Bills. So that's
that's what I was saying, is I will root for
those three individually while hoping the team success. Tanks and
the Patriots can somehow use Will Campbell and anchoring the
(28:53):
offensive line with Drake Drake May and uh you know,
seeing if we can get back to playoff contention. That
that's what I all I care about right now is
making sure we can beat the Buffalo Bills, not supporting them,
supporting them as a second team, because that sures that
can't happen.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Let's get to the big ass fans hotline and if
you would like to join it eight five nine to
eight zero two two eight seven eight five to nine
two eight zero cats. Let's get to the big ass
fans hot line, John Short, what do you got for us?
You're a great American before you say anti thing.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Though, Yeah, Gray Meagantinum, it's good.
Speaker 7 (29:30):
The Harris again drafted.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
It absolutely was he deserves.
Speaker 9 (29:34):
It, yes, and for the solid proper baseball. And we
won and only lost one. We're gonna be saf caline today.
We're gonna beat them.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
How many Biggins you got for us?
Speaker 9 (29:47):
By five vegans?
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Five bo five biggins? Doable in the rubber match. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
It seems like it's been pretty tight lately in these
rubber matches, so four and one one. It seems like
we're always doing this on Sunday too, That is true,
your rubber.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Matches on something, Yes, have we're doing it in softball
this weekend.
Speaker 9 (30:10):
And we won the lost we.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Lost on Friday. Or we lost the first game yesterday
and then won the second one.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
John.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
It was a big comeback. Played a lot of runs
in the second one.
Speaker 9 (30:23):
So we'll go in today to what time is that
game today?
Speaker 5 (30:27):
One o'clock? They're both at one o'clock here in lection two.
Speaker 9 (30:32):
OK. I know that the softwall game is one ready,
but be sure lay for the Basically, if form announced
who's goning, you can take you softball. No, yeah, I
know that he does agency scoreboard. But life say if
you take you one to softball and I even announced
and take a soft off four.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Hold on, John Short, hold you hold your bridges. It's
a senior day and it is on Radio Bowl and
this is one that that game will be on the
ball right.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Both at one o'clock ninety eight point five.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
It'll be on ninety eight point five, John Short. So
if you got two radios, put two earphnes to earbuzz
and both ears. I don't know if it's actually possible,
but you can listen to both of them in both
of your years.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
I go listen to both of them.
Speaker 9 (31:14):
I'm gonna pay attentions. I'll be ready.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
All right, We got it for you, John Short. We
appreciate your call. Thank you for the call.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
If you like to again, if you like to join
the show, cause we're about to hear the break and
we come back from break. Your call now, you be
on hold when we come back and we can get

Speaker 1 (31:43):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop for IT Radio Network on six thirty
w LAP.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
News six thirty WLP. I'm a white.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught. Larry Vaught over
in Palomar today. The w nineteen seventy four collective is busy.
They got doggies and pets over there in Palomar is
called the the Player Bowls.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Larry Vaux, am I correct at NJ's original? I say, shop.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Yeah, I think you are correct. And I got a
good group of your favorite gymnasts that are going to
be over there. A couple of football players going to
be with them today, and they've got a dog.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
For you, a Larrow's and Alex McLaughlin. Oh lord, there's
a whole bunch of gymnasts. Got Alissa Oregon, Isabella McNelly,
what is she still doing in town? The Landy Roe Reguez,
our people Chesney, Bennett, Ryan Noonan, Mackenzie Wilson. Those they've
(33:05):
been on here. Most of them have been on here
except for Isabella and Chesney and Noonon. Noonan hasn't been
on her. But they're over They're over in Palamar. I
don't even have a time or date for that though, Larry.
I mean today, Oh yeah, today from two to four.
They there too, four go over there adopted pet. They
have a chihuahua, And no they do not. I said
(33:29):
the ship Sue or Yorky, And.
Speaker 7 (33:32):
I think that they do not think that chihuahua would
fit me because they said the chihuahua is a diva?
Speaker 5 (33:38):
Has that? Have I ever come across you as a diva? Larry?
Speaker 4 (33:42):
I'm just I'm just reporting what they said.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
I think you know more than the people are reporting.
I don't know you to report fake news.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
No, I wouldn't consider you a diva, But I mean
maybe they just are so intimidated that when they're around you,
they just kind of think you are a diva.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
They just think you're like that.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
No. No, even in my playing days, I wasn't a diva.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
But you also know that the next week we will
have three of the gymnasts will be in studio with
us before they head home for a little bit of
a break. We'll have the three of the Super Sophomore
still Any Rodriguez, Sharon Lee and Creslyn Brose will be
on with us next week.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
And is odd that you you always say that because
my birthday is May the first, My birthday is always
derby weekend and one of us may not be in studio, Larry,
what I.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
Can talk to you off air. I may be in studio.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
I may be back by that time, but I do
plan on being out of town for my birthday and
the day after, the days after.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
Okay, well at least one of us will be there then.
Speaker 6 (34:50):
So if you go, enjoy your birthday, because you always
want to enjoy birthdays because it's much better to have birthdays.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
Than not not having them.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Absolutely, so yeah, head on over to Palamar. There's the
UK football, there's UK gymnasts, there's animals to be adopted.
Go and adopt animal. This is the time of year
where you can walk your pets, take them to the
dog parks and we always talk about uh that adopting dogs,
Larry fought. Are there other animals you can adopt?
Speaker 4 (35:22):
I think they usually do. I think you said I've.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Never heard anybody adopting the cat. I've never really heard
of people, and I'm certain is the thing.
Speaker 5 (35:29):
I just never heard of it.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Well, I think they did, and they probably a few
people listening that can send us a text or post
something to let us know that for sure.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
But I think I've heard them talk about that they
have cats usually.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
I've assume they do.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Uh, speaking of cats, Jack Pilgrim, Uh, Dion Walker who
has talked about being in the first half of the
draft first I mean first half of the first round,
not even first half of the draft, first half of
the first round.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Fail free fail ail fail, and Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
There's a lot of speculation I've alluded to some of
the reasons, not him in general, just some of the
players last year, why we had a four and eight season,
some of the commitments that were made. Were you surprised
that he fell to the fourth round or were you
surprised that Dion Walker did not get drafted in the
first round at tall.
Speaker 7 (36:23):
Yeah, it was kind of a weird one. I understand
both sides of it. You know, when you see just
an absolute mammoth, mammoth of a man, like like deon
you your first instinct is to just you know, bet
big on him and say, you know that that guy
is going to turn into you know, the next game
wrecker on the defensive defensive line. And then when you
(36:43):
watch the breakdowns and like you know, some of the
NFL guys talking about him, it's like, you know, but
just so many little kind of nitpicky things that really
separated you know, uh, kind of a boomer Bus type
type of kid, where you know, it's not just the body,
it's about the uh just kind of approach and the
mechanics and the technique and some of the things that
(37:06):
there's a chance that a guy being that big and
yet yes, he moves so well that you know, kind
of top heavy, and he doesn't use his weight to
you know, leveraging his weight to his advantage and things
like that where you could kind of start seeing the
you know, how how a guy of his caliber could
slip a little bit. So, uh, you know, I hope
he uses it as a motivation and you know, kind
(37:27):
of puts a chip on his shoulder. He as people
around him that clearly support him. And Buffalo Now with
Ray Davis and Maxwell Harriston so he kind of bring
the best out of him. You know, he's not going
to be out on an island by himself in the NFL.
As he kind of reaches toward that potential. So I'm
definitely rooting for him. I'm a little shocked that we
had to wait till day three for him. I kind
(37:47):
of thought that he would be in that late second,
early third, you know, for Friday pickups. But you know it,
once you get past that, it's all about fit, and
I think he's obviously found a huge, huge, huge fit
for for himself and with the Bill.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
I agree with you because in the first three rounds,
first for actually four rounds, Buffalo did address a whole
lot of defensive needs. We're gonna get defensive when we
take this break, and when we come back, we'll continue
this conversation.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
We'll be back after this. Ye you're listen to Stockyards
Bank Sunday morning sports talk on news radio six thirty
