Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White,
along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim, coming to you
from Clark's Main Street Market studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Clark Clark's Pumpy Shop Return refreshed, Andy Fee. This is
game week, guys, it is game week. Talking seasons over now.
(00:28):
We're going to hear those those paths clinking. And if
it were back in the nineteen hundreds, you would smell
the grass, the freshly cut grass, and it would football
and electricity would be in the air. But since we
have artificial turf, it's just gonna be electricity in the air,
so you won't be able to fill the grass. Larry Vault,
you want to smell the grass?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
What if you go at to a few high school games?
You can still smell the grass.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yes, and high school football happened.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yesterday this it is Friday and Saturday, well.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Kind of started. They took the belts off, a lot.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Of teams did so. I got to see a couple
of games this weekend. And nice to be back at US.
I guess probably for this time of years, good to
weather as it could have been.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, because is it black moon or something like that?
Boat the temperature dropped because like on Wednesday or Tuesday,
it was hot, like just the walk was hot, any
movement was just hot when you went outside. But on
Thursday it cooled down a little bit. In Friday it
cool down load.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Yeah, and it's supposed to cool down quite a bit
this way too, like upper forties as the low overnight.
So football season weather. It's here, but I am still
in a pumpkin spice free zone.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Wait a minute, hold on, you changed, No, I'm saying,
is it not black moon coming up? I don't know,
Larry Vos black moon coming up? I know, Jack Coober,
do you know about black moon? Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
I mean if it was a black moon, wouldn't it
be an eclipse? So I don't think that's happening noon
as the strawberry moon. So it might be the beaver
moon you're thinking about. And it's all based on like
Native Americans and how they use the moon to navigate
the seasons.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
You're not too far off base, Okay, I just didn't
Maybe I didn't get the color of the moon or
the flavor of the moon. Maybe that's the problem. Larry Vaught,
how are you doing this morning. I'm glad to have
you in studio. There's always a pleasure to have you.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, well, thank you. It's it's been an interesting week,
some ups and downs for me. This would have been
my mom's birthday week, so it made it a little
bit more difficult and challenging. But got to see some
high school football which was fun, gonna go get to
watch my grandson play the day which is always fun.
And then did a five k over the in Versilles yesterday,
(02:41):
the Triple Crack that had almost five hundred people, so
that was fun. It was a really nice, cool morning
there on one of the horse farms. Got to see
a lot of the thoroughbreds that were out ripping up
and down the fence line with us going a little
bit faster than me, but it was a good overall,
been a good week.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
So you're in a marathon five k five just three
miles and then you get to watch where's he, where's
your son plan or grands home plane at today?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
They're they're at Ryle, They're they're at home throw up
and up at Rile or hosting today.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
So oh I'm gonna see if I can jump over
and see him. But I've been up and down this
road all weekend. I don't know if I'm gonna do
that again.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, I understand you. You put a few miles in.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
It sounds like absolutely, Jack Pilgrim, what's going on with
you this weekend?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
So thus far?
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Oh Betty, it was just the absolute besketing to watch
week zero yesterday, a little chaotic, you know, not necessarily
the highest profile matchups, you know, number one versus number three,
like we're gonna get next weekend, and you know the
excitement surrounding college game day and all that stuff. But buddy,
you you just the emotion and big old, ugly grin
(03:57):
on my face when ESPN started rolling at New and
we get you know, the guinness is flowing and doublin
with Kansas State, Iowa State getting things rolling. We get
Dan Mullen's debut, and at UNLV we get WKU getting
a big dub and just you know, a Hawaii kicker
that learn how to kick on YouTube hitting a game
(04:18):
winner for Hawaii against Stanford and their season opener. Just
so much fun chaos to get college football started. It's
a nice little appetizer ahead of the entre next weekend,
and I am all the way forward to you.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
It was a very, very.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Fun weekend with it's kind of sad no football today,
no preseason, no high school, no college. So today is
just going to be just kind of hunkering down waiting
for the other game week festivities.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Starting tomorrow we drive up to Row.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You can watch eighth grade middle school football this afternoon.
You absolutely can, so we can find you a game.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Jack, I will say this, there are some big games
going on next week, and I think t Exis Ohio
State is probably gonna be what everybody's gonna be tuning into.
But Toledo is also playing Kentucky, Jack Pilgrim.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
I heard.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
I'm excited about that one.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Is it gonna be exciting as exciting for you as
the Texas and Ohio State game. I'm gona see what
kind of fan you are. Because one of these people,
one of us three on these airwaves, thought this morning
that Anthony White would say that Kentucky would win nine games.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I'm not a fool. I haven't said that.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
And you know, at one point I figured we were
scrapped to win five.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Oh, You've come a long way. You keep going up each.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Week well, no, I know.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
I mean after the end of last season and you know,
the departure of Big Dog, departure of a lot of players.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Then we bring new players in and I was with you.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
I didn't think I thought we would struggle to meet
five hundred. But that's still what foreign whatever if we
repeat what we did last year, but five and something.
But I found like two or three more games. I
think I've convinced myself, but I'm not nine. But that's
why I'm asking Jack now, no, not eight, No, If things,
(06:13):
if everything comes together, if our offensive line is what
we wanted to be, not what we expected to be
or anticipate, if what we wanted to be, if we
can keep Zach or cut her upright and.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Move the change, I could definitely see if we can.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
But I'm saying even without even without that, I can
find six, possibly seven. But Jack Pilgrim, that's why I
asked you to you. Is the Ohio State Texas game
gonna be big? Because after Ohio State and Texas game,
Ohio State goes back to the Big ten, Texas coming
back to the SEC and then they after playing the season,
(06:50):
but Kentucky were either gonna gain our fan base or
lose our fan base off of that game. And now
when we're talking about the same Toledo that lost to
Ohio that we that we took behind the woodshit last year,
but and with the senior quarterback. But we're not going
to discuss any of that. Uh, we're gonna have hard
(07:10):
time beating Toledo at home. As with the what the
folks are saying that, I'm not going to do this
show like I did the last two shows, where I
try to convince people that Kentucky can go five hundred
or will go five hundred because Kentucky University of Kentucky
doesn't pay me. But I do want to know where
your interest is gonna be next week to see what
kind of fan you are.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Jack.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
I mean, both games will be overlapping ones at noon,
ones at twelve forty five, and my TV will be
on Kentucky Toledo, So that should tell you everything that
you need to know. And just and just so I
can you know, share my wonderful expertise the following morning
on this beautiful radio show, hopefully celebrating a big win
(07:52):
and all of the highs of Zach Calzada going for
eight hundred yards and seven touchdowns and just you know,
go go down the list of of all the things
that we're all hoping and dreaming could happen in the debut.
So yes, I will absolutely be watching. I might bring
out a second TV just to have uh the you know,
Texas Ohio State on and just kind of keep up.
You know, it's a lead Corso's final day and you
(08:14):
know that's why they're they're there, you know, honoring him
on top of the festivities of the season opener for
them as well. So I will absolutely be tuning into
that for just kind of what it means for the sport.
But my personal rooting interest will absolutely be on Kentucky
tileda And.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Did you honestly mean hopefully? Will we be talking about
a win? Was that a hopefully or you just you know,
I think you've been hanging around Larry Vaut too much.
Larry var always he doesn't speak in definitives when you're reporting,
just because you don't want to unless you have an
inside scoop and you feel like maybe sports are fixed
(08:52):
like I have in the past, but you're saying hopefully,
and that is really starting to irritate me as well.
We get the game day, any part of our fan
base that thinks that we could possibly lose to Toledo.
I'm not saying there's not a possibility, but there should
be no way. And if we do, then me and
(09:12):
bow are taking the wheels off the bandwagon, the doors.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Everything, were scrapping the bandwagon.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
I say hopefully because if I say, oh man, I
can't wait to absolutely take Taledo behind behind the barn
and you know, shoot them, like if we talking to
those types of absolutes and definitives, then I'm the one
that gets cut and clipped after the show, and by
Toledo fans, all twelve of them, or whatever that fan base,
(09:41):
or you know, Louisville, all the other rival fan bases
that want to kick down, kick us while we're down.
It's gonna be my voice that's saying I can't even
believe Taleda decided to show up for this game. No
you you you just kind of you don't want to
paint yourself into a corner. You want to be able
to have some type of out just in case. Yes,
I am expecting Kentucky to win. I'm actually expecting Kentucky
(10:04):
to win rather handily.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
I think Kentucky's going to come.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
In prepared and with an edge and ready to kind
of shut up some of the naysayers. And I think
we'll then have to worry about later on in the
season and as the grind of SEC football hits. But
I think Kentucky's going to go out and make a
statement next week. But I'm not going to guarantee that
because I'm also not dumb. So there's a nice little
happy medium where I'm comfortable saying, hopefully Kentucky takes care
(10:30):
of business the way I expect them to.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Is that better? Yeah? I like that. I do like that.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
But between you sounds a little Larry vawdish, because you know,
you do a lot of work with KSR and you
guys make bold predictions, just bold statements, and that sounds
a little bit more Larry Vawdish with your hopefully will
win just being a constant professional. But that right there,
I will buy that in Larry Vaught. There's eighty eight
(10:56):
percent chance that Kentucky's gonna beat Toledo if you look
at the betting people to betting odds or whatever. But
the whole idea what Jack just said, and you are
not really optimistic about this season.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
You got us going maybe fourign eight again. But are
you worried about this Toledo game?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
I told you I'm not optimistic or pessimistic. I'm in
the waiting let's see category. I don't feel like I
know enough to be one or the other. But no,
I think Kentucky beat Toledo. I think Mark Stoops over
the course of his career, his teams have usually played
their best A lot of times when their backs kind
of against the wall, they felt disrespected. I would think
going into this game, they should probably feel disrespected that
(11:35):
the upset pick of the week is Toledo over Kentucky.
Betting lines dropped almost in half on Kentucky versus Toledo,
so I would think that they probably feel a little disrespected.
And that seems to be when Mark's teams usually play really,
really well. So I think they will be Toledo.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
We are touchdown and some changed favorites over Toledo, but.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
After opening is almost a two touchdown favorite.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
That's fine because Mark Stoops keeps changing the lineup. We
don't know if Seth is healthy. We don't know Zach
or Cutter's gonna be the quarterback who there's there's a
lot of things.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
That's fine.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
So I may I may make me some money this week.
I may go make a little money. Okay, I can't
make a little money or I can't say that on air.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
No I could say, I know you could do it.
I'm just saying you can. Also anytime you wage your
little money, you can also.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Oh no not.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
I might not win a whole lot just because Kentucky's
like you said, but I would just double whatever it
is or put something up.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
If you would like to join.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
The show eight five nine two eight zero two two
eight seven eight five nine to eight zero cats, let
us know what you think is gonna happen this weekend.
What game you will be focused on. We're gonna talk
about a little bit of high school football. There was
some activity at one of the high school football games
that was very very concerning.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Very concerning.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yes, and we'll have Molly and Maley on at eleven
o'clock talk a little UK volleyballolleyball team. Yes, sir, Yes, indeed,
when we come back, we'll continue to show. You'll listen
to Stockyards Bank Sunday one in Sports Talk on News
Radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 7 (13:08):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk presented by
the Lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim. Stockyards Banking
is your trusted partner. It has been your trusted partner
since nineteen hundred and four, So head on over to
syb dot com for all your banking and financial needs.
And Larry Vaught. Before we went to break, we were
talking a little bit about some high school football. Some
(13:41):
teams struggled, some teams did well, and is always going
to be that way, but you know, we always have
favorites or people we root for, we pull for. But
up in Mayfield, Kentucky, there was some and I don't
know for certain what exactly happened as far as it
(14:04):
was not inside the stadium, but there was a gunshots
heard outside of that and and it is it is
because you know, my moms came to all my games
when I was in high school, most of my games
in college.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
That it is concerning when you hear that and you
don't know where it's coming from.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
But watching the videos of you know, the gun shots
and the players just after in the middle, well, the
guy had already been tackled and everybody just starts scattering
is extremely is extremely scary. And I don't know what
football is coming to. But if that was a community
activity and not involved in the game, which I'm hoping
that I'm almost certain is not involved in the game,
(14:45):
or in the parking lot, it was just maybe closely
in the community.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
I think it was in the parking in one of
the parking lot or parking area near there. Yes, So
I mean I just I just close enough that you
could hear the shots in the stadium without any problem.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Yeah, because that said playing a game and just all
the atmosphere and noise around the atmosphere, I don't think
you would be aware of anything like that because you're
so focused on the game. But like you said, if
you hear it that clearly and vividly, the way those
guys jumped up and just ran off the field was concerning,
extremely concerning, And.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
The way the fans ran off the field, and it
was it was very very alarming to see that something
you did never want to, never want to see. And
I know that had to take fly one person to
Nashville for the gut shot and all like that's I'll
have you more details than AB had a friend that
was there and said it was unreal.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Is there anything I don't know?
Speaker 8 (15:37):
Like?
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And I do want to offer an.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Apology for two weeks ago when I spoke about the
tempers flaring in Kentucky high school football. Two weeks ago,
there were fights and scrimmages or whatever. And I, because
of the outlet I got the information from, I thought
it was in Lexton. It was not in Lexington, it
was in Jack's hometown. It was Louisville. But there was
a whole lot of there was several fights.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
There's two different ones.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Yeah, So I just wanted to clear that up that
I don't want to put a black eye on Lexton
football because originally, because I got it from a Lexton outlet,
I thought it was in Lexton.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Now there's two different ones across other place across they
but not in Lexidon. One one had a team close
to Lexident, right, right, So.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Jack Pilgrim, did you see the Mayfield video of the
players reacting to gunshots?
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Man, And it's just the worst, you know, it's that's
supposed to be, you know, a sacred time for families
and friends, and you know, it's Friday night lights, it's
the time for you know, everybody to gather and you
know just kind of disconnect from the world and not
have to worry about things like that. So it's just yeah,
it's it sucks, man, Like, we just gotta we got
(16:53):
to be better and hopefully everybody impacted and you know,
affected by that, hopefully you know that things things work
out for them and they can make speedy recoveries. But
it's not no place for that, and you know anywhere,
but especially you know, Friday night, you know, opening weekend
(17:13):
of football. Football in Kentucky just shameful, really really sad.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
So before we move on to talking a little bit
more about Kentucky football, Uh, if you are raising or
coaching a young athlete in any sport, teach them, teach
them sportsmanship, teach them how to just be respectful of
the game. A lot of things are changed with n
(17:40):
I l uh. Like I said two weeks ago, you know,
guys are fighting, and I don't mind fighting because the
grit of the game, you know, you get you know,
you might get a little bit testy or whatever. But
you know, when you're around kids, there's there's just some rules.
Even if it's a street life when you're there's rules
to the streets. When you're around kids and older people,
(18:01):
there's certain things you just don't do. But it absolutely
has no place around I think sporting events like now,
you go on YouTube at any point in time, you
can pull up a professional game and you can see
grown ups with adult beverages or without a doubt, adult
beverages fighting in the stands, just a bunch of them
just wailing. So maybe kids found that on YouTube or whatever.
(18:24):
But if you are a parent or you're a coach,
try to instill in these youngsters that that is not
the way to handle business. So let's, you know, keep
the integrity of the game intact. I know, nil and
transfer a portal and even in high school you could
transfer if you want to. Now, yeah, but the safety
of people just want to go support their loved ones
or just want to enjoy the because if I was
(18:46):
to go watch your grandson, I would just be there
just for the support your grandson and the love of
the sport. And you have to worry about even if
a fight breaks. If a fight breaks out around me,
who's to say I'm not gonna get hit or hurt
or especially the gunfire. But let's let's uh instill the
integrity of the games.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Words of wisdom.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
So if you would like to join the show, we're
gonna from here on we're going to talk a little
bit about the UK football. Well do we think it's
gonna happen against Toledo?
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
And the week after that, because Larry and Jack are
being convinced them. We turned them around a little bit.
Jack's a little bit more convinced than Larry.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Not said I clicked that Kentucky to win.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
No, I'm talking about Toledo game.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
That's what I'm saying. I expected them to win.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
We're going to talk about that, but we're also going
to get to the point where we have old miss
after Yeah, and oh, Lane Kiffin's he's gonna come here.
He's gonna so Mark Stewt has to prove hisself at home.
But next week against Lane Kiffin, we have to be
worried about that as well, just because Lane Kiffin's gonna
(19:53):
be mad because we beat him last week or last
year or so. So that's where the conversation is gonna go.
We'll contin this conversation after this year. Listening to Stockyards This.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by the
lead Troop Barde Radio Network on six thirty WLAPS Bank.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news Radio six thirty WLP
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White, DeLong,
Glary Vault, and Jack Pilgrim.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Jack Pilgrim's here doing this hour.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you by Country
Boy Brewing. Game Week. High school football is off to
a good start, healthy start. Kentucky football is ready. Chip
train Them's coming to town. Guy was on our roster
last year is on the opposing roster this year. So
we finally get to see what he could do. That's
(20:52):
gonna be interesting.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Well, hope we don't get to see what he can do.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Well, I mean, you don't.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Want to run it for one hundred and forty yards.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I wouldn't as long as long as we win, because
if our evaluation was that bad last year, then there's
an issue. Right, So if he comes in a rush
for one hundred and forty you don't if a running
back rush is for.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
One hundred and forty.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
You don't just win. If we get on there rush
for one hundred and forty and they throw full one fifty,
that's not really a win, right.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
No, But I mean I wouldn't want to see him
go one hundred and forty. Maybe maybe I'm wrong, but I.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Just I wouldn't either, know, I agree with you, I wouldn't.
But that also shows that he didn't get opportunity here
and we're, oh, we missed out on that. Maybe, but
if he comes here and we we swallowing up, which
which we're probably gonna do, I can't see us giving
up one hundred yards in the first contry with.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
What you and with what you have told me and Jack, Yeah,
we can't. We can't even thinking about Chip having any success.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
What you remember what I told you last year defense,
nobody's scoring two touchdowns on you and the first except
for South Carolina, no.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
One really did.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
That's what I'm saying. So if you want Jack and
Out to believe, you can't be now telling us how
much Chip might run for it to be okay.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
No, I just want to see what he really can do.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
I want to see if we really undervalue if we
under evaluated him last year or he was just injured
and didn't get an opportunity to show. So I'm like
I said, if he I'm a sportsman. At the end
of the day, Larry, I want to watch a good game.
If you rush for one hundred and forty and loses.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I want to see David Gusta tackling five times for loss.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Now he may you can still have one hundred and
forty yards and still get tackled in the backfield several times.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Okay, I don't know, you're sounding like a little bit
of a hater, Anthea.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
That's what I'm thinking too, Jack, I hal what Harold?
Speaker 3 (22:36):
What he's flipped? Jack? How many?
Speaker 1 (22:39):
How many reshing yards does Chip Chainman has as a
UK running back? And how many do I have? Why
would I would I have to hate on him for
come on, come on, let's do it. If you want
to do it.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
I'm just I'm just throwing throwing back at you what
you're throwing out.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
I'm just I'm just making sure we're all on the
same page, that's all.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
And to be honest with you, Jack, I do the
animosity I have towards some of last year's roster was
the way I feel, and I don't know this for
a fact, that the money was distributed, and I think
that's what caused dissension between our team and I think
Chip train them had a nice chunk of money that
(23:19):
could have been making some other players happy that would
have continued hopefully to participate and stay engaged. That is
my concern. My concern is a running back is not
with him. My concern was that I think we may
have compensated him pretty well and it costs us. I
(23:40):
ain't gonna say him himself. I mean just all the
people we compensated. I'm not sure if we got to
return on investments. So that's kind of where my if
it sounds like hate or something, that if Chip was all,
if it was worth it, then I would look back
and be like, Okay, I see that's why we paid him.
Even if he rush one hundred and fifty against us,
If he rushed for thirty or forty yards against US
and we and we just keep him, we ground him,
(24:05):
then I'll be like, well, last year was a wash
because even if he had participated with us, it would
have it would not have come out in our favor.
Does that make sense to you, Jack, Yeah, it makes.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Sense, And I'm I am not a like.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
I don't think it needs to be personal with Chip,
And you know, it was an injury circumstance. And what
happens if he has a full healthy fall camp, and
maybe he does, the return on investment is there for
Kentucky football and he does prove his worth by being
on the field and scoring touchdowns and maybe changing the
trajectory of the season where you know, Demi Sumo Karingbay
(24:43):
can be kind of the third down kind of complimentary
back instead of the you know, workhorse, ground and pound guy.
I could just you know, the so much changed by
Chip being an absolute zero.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
So you know, it's just a circumstance thing.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
But I also, you know, wonder about the evaluation and
you know, the big dog wanting to you know, a
win and another feather in his cap that you know,
to suggests that he had an eye for talent that
just was not there. And yeah, I wish him the best,
But as as Larry said, I hope David Gesta takes him,
you know, in the backfield seven eight times and he
(25:21):
rushes for negative seventy four yards.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
I'll take that. I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
You know what else I'll take Larry Vutt is a
call from Alvin. Let's get to the big ass fans
hotline and see what Alvin has to say. Alvin, good morning,
what do you got for us?
Speaker 3 (25:36):
My man?
Speaker 6 (25:37):
Good morning, guys. How y'all doing today? I wanted to
sort of solicit you all's opinion to see if the
twenty fifteen Super Bowl, if it made sense for Pete
Curl and the offensive coordinator to try to pass or
slat to win that Super Bowl, which was then accepted
(25:59):
by Malcolm Butler. There's a debate about that. I was
going back and forth, and it had to do with
if they ran Marshawn Lynch and he got tackled they
on had they wouldn't have had a time out, the
clock would expired. But my thought was is that when
(26:20):
Russell Wilson went into shotgun that he told the defense
that he was going to pass and it had to
be quick and hot, which allowed Butler to jump the
route and accept the ball. And secondly, I thought that
if the play came in from the bench to Russell
Wilson that he could audible out of that play and
(26:40):
took the burden of running Marshall Lynch and a lot
of people fellows forget that Chris Matthews, who came from
Kentucky had a monster game. So if you're going to
throw the ball, Whitney, throw the ball to a six'
five Frame Chris mathews maybe in the back of the
end zone to try to win the. GAME i just
(27:02):
thought that that slant call was ill, advised a play
THAT i wouldn't have. Ran If i'm going to lose the,
Game i'm gonna lose on the legs Of Marshall. Lynch
and that particular play FRACTURED uh the somewhat the fan
base that. Team the comments coming from the team players
(27:23):
that left her so much out Of monster came Against
pete Curll and And Russell. Wilson SO i just wanted
to get all the opinion on that because of the
debate that's going on back and forth and several guys
that thought that the play calling the slat PASS uh
was it was was a great.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
CALL i appreciate the, Call alvin. Uh Jack, PILGRIM i
know you probably have great opinion on The deal. ALBUM
i on two. Sides, ONE i don't really mind the.
CALL i definitely think you should have went To Marshawn.
Lynch maybe that's the running back that feels like you
(28:01):
probably should have ran. It AND i think you Know,
marshawn that drive had had a lot of. Success the
play That Malcolm butler made on the play is probably
one of the best plays on a unless he's watched
a lot of film and he had pre, snap if
he had pre snap information that that was likely going
to be the. PLAY i have never seen anyone and
(28:22):
that's short of a distance in that part of the. Field,
now you, know in open field it may, happen but
in open field you don't have a lot OF i
mean in the red, zone you don't have a lot
of yardage behind, you so you can't look for them
to do a double move because the end zone is
the back of the end zone is right, there so
it's pretty much gonna be a five to ten yard.
Route But i've never seen anyone jump a route that
(28:47):
quickly and that under those, Circumstances because if it was
a double, move then he would have been. Beat if
he would have did a return where he does a
slint Then carol and go back out to the outside
he would have been, beat so he had had some
premonition that that was going to. Happen SO i think
it was more of a great. Play everybody questions the
(29:07):
call because it didn't go In seattle's, favor But Jack,
PILGRIM i.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Don't really question a.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
CALL i do think they should have went To, marshawn
BUT i just think no matter, what just the play
That butler made was. Tremendous so even if it was
the right, call he just made a better.
Speaker 5 (29:26):
Play, OH i think it was a great. CALL i
wouldn't have changed a single thing about the. PLAY i
Think Russell wilson made a great. THROW i think it
was a great offensive play call. THERE i Think Pete
carroll nailed. It AND i thank them for the rest
of my life for giving me one of the fondest
(29:47):
memories of my entire football. Existence so, NO i am
a big. FAN i have no gripes whatsoever about. It and,
YES i have watched that play ten thousand times in my,
life And i'll probably watched it another ten thousand from from.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Here but, yes that that.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
Play actually they saw it run several times in the
past and knew that they had that one in their,
arsenal and that was going to be you know that you,
know uh kind of crossing, pattern quick, slant that that
was going to be something you, know they hadn't run
it yet in the, game and they were going to
(30:23):
throw it out there at some, point kind of just
a hunch that, hey if they're not gonna be they
need they need a yard and a. Half this is
a perfect opportunity for them to throw it out. There
we have no choice but to you, know kind of
go all in because you're you're, Right, ANTHONY a double
move games over and you, know so He Malcolm butler
(30:45):
had to make that absolute gut instinct play on the
ball in real time in a matter of an you,
know millisecond and made the right. Call so they they
had practiced that in you, know, camp lead up to
the game and practice behind the.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Scenes they've run it over and over and over.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Again and apparently the real story is That Malcolm butler
got absolutely torched on that exact play a dozen times
and they thought for sure that if it had gotten
run With malcolm in that, play.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
He would have gotten.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Beat and they were hoping that they wouldn't do, it
And malcolm makes it for the very first time to
win The Super. Bowl so just an absolutely crazy turn
of events that kind of Made Malcolm.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Butler now a legendary figure In Super bowl. History so thank,
You Pete.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Carroll larry waught you not a new weekly On Patriots.
Fan you got an opinion On alvin's.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Question coachat thought, himself just give the Battle land should be.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Done there you. Go, see you're a.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Man that's my own heart went in doubt to give
it to the running, Back throw it to, him hand
it to.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Him, whatever you give it to your best.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Player let's get back to the biggest fans hotline and
see What larry has to.
Speaker 3 (31:57):

now they have. Recruiters thank you for the, Call.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Larry we do have to have to break AND i
will SAY i think From Mark stoops, standpoint and maybe
inside of the locker, room AND i think outside of
A kentucky fan, Base i'm not. Sure and this has
been going on for. Years maybe it's more like The
larry's of the, world who feels as if we got
to be able to recruit in. STATE a lot of
people in THE sec don't feel like we should be
(34:51):
recruiting in. State most of the people thought we. Had
we do have to get To quizzinberries and some of
those guys who can. Do AND i think that's Where
stoops And Brad white And Bush, hampden those guys are
bringing the guys in who fits your. System BUT i
don't think it's a big deal if we can still
recruit in. STATE i Thought Big dog probably did a
better job of Recruiting ohio and some of the perimeters
(35:13):
than it was being to. Say we'll continue this conversation
after this, break, Though, listen we'll be. Back you're listening

the coaches. Say AND i made the comment and war
seas pretty pretty uh pretty confident in HIS d. Line
(36:54):
endon is pumping up the old line AND i see
a little different. Stoops SO i got a little optimist
and this thing is gonna get corrected a little. Bit
and if we don't stuff our toe gets To, Leo
i'll call to Or, oh because correct me If i'm. Wrong,
oh this is bringing in about the same amount of
turnover as we are with a new quarterback as, well
