Speaker 1 (00:22):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the Lee Troop Borde Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vauden's studio and Jack Pilgrim coming
from We're coming to you from Clark's Main Street Market
Studios and beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky. We're talking to UK
football first game August thirtieth, right around the corner. But

(00:54):
and I've never seen either one of you there. But
the Big Blue Bash is August twenty ninth, that Friday
night before the game. It is at the Easter Seals
on Richmond Road next basically right next to where John
Caliperry's house used to be his old house, So nineteen
hundred Richmond Road. Come on out support the Cats. It

(01:15):
is a huge time. Mark Stoop shows up, some of
the coaches will show up. There's a lot of former
players that are there. Myself will be there. Not that's
I don't think that's an attraction for you to come.
But there's good, great food, absolute great food, music, entertainment.
I kind of work with the Jim Bean people and

(01:38):
they do a football. There's a hole that you throw
the football through, so you stand back, you throw the hole.
You can you pay for I think it's twenty bucks
the ball? Well, actually I might cut you a deal
if you show up Larry Jack, I might cut you
a deal or how much. But the money goes to
the Easter Seals, so it goes to a great cost.
But that is one of the bigger funner things that

(02:02):
people like to do, and it usually keeps me there
late that night, although we got to have a game
at twelve forty five the next day. I'll stick around
if people wants to keep donate money and throw the football.
But the big Boog Bash is at the Easter Seals
on Richmond Road on the twenty ninth, starts to six
point thirty. So Erry Vuch you want to get over there,

(02:24):
you can contact me. I can get you in contact
with my people and we can see if if we can.
I ain't. I don't know. I can't really get you
a discount, but I can bring you on mind. But
here's the thing, this is why I'm bringing this up.
If you are a former player and you would like
to attend on behalf of support of Mark stoops in
our Kentucky Wildcats. Hit me up on social media at

(02:46):
yit a d O t WHI te Facebook, Instagram. I
only do a whole lot of TikTok Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
X and yeah, hit me up, let me know you
would like to attend this. Also in our face book
group where we all of the former players kind of congregate.
On our Facebook group, you can drop the line in there.

(03:06):
I think Susan Lax has put the put a link
in there that if you were interested in joining. But
it is a great time for the former players. I
love seeing all the former players. Are the fans and
the boosters and the donors love seeing the former players there.
So you guys all show up or do you just
hit me up and I can get you in contact
with the people that could get you entrance to the

(03:30):
Big Blue Bash on Friday night. It'll be a great time.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
But you talked about this last year. What's that I said?
You talked about it last year? How great of a
time you had at the bash? I remember you came
in you were just kind of buzzing about it and
telling me I need.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
To go buzz. Buzz is probably a word that you
probably will use maybe the Big Blue Maybe maybe the
Blues Brothers can big Blue Big Blue Blues Brothers can
show up. I'll pass it along to them. We'll see.
But if you got it defensive to get them, if
you got to get but if they have to get

(04:06):
warmed up for the game the next day, because the
next is at twelve forty five, So it's going to
be a short turnaround. If you do stay as late
as I stay and help clean up and do all
the other things that they do over there, it might
be tough on the Blues Brothers both.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, they primarily work at night, so it could be
a tough turnaround for them.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Okay, I just wanted to make sure, uh Jack Pilgrim,
no chance and you showing up right because you live
everybody or very fortunately I don't know which one. I
have our family fantasy football draft that night, so I
will not be making it.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Last year I made. I made the wrong decision for that.
I was out of town and had to do the
whole thing for my phone away from everybody. Missed out
on all the you know, you order pizza, you have
the nachos and appetizers and all that fun stuff, and
you know get to celebrate that slide. I didn't get
to do that last year, so I promise that I

(05:06):
would not miss it this time around, So I'll have
to catch him next year.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Well, after the Big Blue Bash, there's gonna be a
football game in twelve forty five. And we discussed all
day today, Jack Pilgrim, what do you have to see?
Because apparently we all three believe that we're going to
start the season off one in zero. I believe we're
gonna start the season off two and zero. Larry's not
convinced yet, and he has to see what's going to
happen on the thirty. I don't know if you feel
the same way. What would you have to see on

(05:33):
Saturday to make you feel as if you know what
this season is going to This season's going to be exciting.
We're back. What would you have to see Saturday.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
To see Kentucky control the line of scrimmage? I want
to see the Big Blue Wall be the Big Blue
Wall again, instead of the put together with paper mache
with holes in every every couple of feet, like just
whatever that was last year. In the last couple of years,
I want a sturdy group that you can be proud

(06:09):
of that controls the line of scrimmage. I'm not saying
that they have to run for four hundred yards and
just absolutely, you know, just destroy Toledo. But there is
something to be said about re establishing the culture that
has been lost, and that starts up front. I think
they have the guys to do it, and you know,
i'd like to see Obviously it depends on how the

(06:29):
running backs look and health wise, and you know we've
been talking about that three or four spot. If it's Patterson,
you know, step stepping up or will Cox, how that's
working out. But you know, it seems like number one
number two are pretty solidified at this point with you know,
the incoming transfer. So I want to see them control
the line of scrimmage leading to a strong run game

(06:51):
and then you know, just have kalz Outa be a
game manager.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Just win the game.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
You know, he didn't have to go nuclear, but you know,
if he could throw for two hundred and twenty five
yards and a couple of touchdowns to you know, some
new past catchers and show some of that early chemistry
with some of the new faces that are in there.
I just love to see a stable, consistent product that
honestly just the fan base can be proud of, because
I was just not very proud of last year's group.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
And Larry Vaughan, I agree with Jack Pilgrim a whole lot.
I do think that the new montage now is run
the damn ball. So no, that's what I mean, don't
throw it if last year, what do we throw? That's
always been the screens. No, But last year on second
and ten we throw a screen. We run a jet sweep.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
No.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I mean when we say run the ball, I don't
mean east and west. This is sec You got to
get downhill when you can. My whole point is I
think they mean run the ball on meaningful with purpose.
Last year, I think we called a lot of uncharacteristic things.
And I've been telling you this for years, like you
you want you, and I know Bush Hampden is always
had his window dressing the same. Everything looks the same.

(08:03):
You don't know if it's gonna be a run. You
don't know if it's gonna be play action. You don't
know if it's gonna be just a drop back pass
because of the window dressing. But last year there'd be
no reason we would running a screen a tunnel screen
or a jet sweep. On ten you need eight to
ten yards, you run a screen or not. If it's
Craig Yves, I can see you running the screen. I

(08:24):
don't know about that, but pretty well. But my point is,
I think his thing now is running the ball. Let's
get now, as I told you, let's get the ball
to second and four. I mean second and six, baby,
hopefully second and five, because if you're gonna jump people
in front of Jamari and Wilcox and he's averaging six yards,
we better be looking at second and five every time.

(08:45):
If he's gonna get you six yards every carrier right, preaching, preaching,
So how do you feel about that the new Does
that make you a little bit more confidence in the
season that Mark SUTs saying, Yo, look, we're just gonna
run the ball, and you said he said that before.
The problem was I think we had to make sure
other people got touches, so we would call plays out

(09:05):
of uncharacteristic just to get the ball in other people's sayings, Yeah,
what is that? Only thing?

Speaker 5 (09:09):
I wonder why do you have fourteen receivers on the
team and not ancounting tight ends? Because I don't know
I I mean, so, I'm just curious about that too,
to see how it all plays out. But I'm like you,
I think it's going to be a heavy run unless
they can't. I think the plan is going to be
heavy run.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
But what if you're saying, why we have fourteen receivers?
What if? And I thought we discussed this with Bush
last year. I don't think Bush ever had the opportunity
to do it. He really wants to run tempo. He
wants to run not so much Lane Kiffin Well, Lane
Kiffer runs the ball a lot too as well. It's
just tempo the way they run it. So if you
got four receivers on the field, you gouts, everybody spread out.

(09:50):
You can't have backers and safeties in the box. I
think that's what Bush really wants to do. You think
that's what Stupids wants to do. I'm telling you, I
think it to the point now. It's to the point
now where Stoops has to take the reins off of
his offensive coordinators and let them do what they do best.
If I'm if I'm an offensive coordinator and you got
your and you just looking over my shoulder on my playbook,

(10:12):
or you rip you don't rip twenty some pages out
pages out of my playbook and you expect me to
be successful. I'm not gonna take the beating from the
public and the media. I'm not taking a beating from
them when you're handcuffing me. But now now I think stoops,
let's realize that I as a head coach, I think
you got to be responsible. But I do think he's
gonna give Bush some autonomy to do whatever it is

(10:35):
he has to do. Well. Well, let's hope. So we
will see. We will see, you know what, else we'll see.
We'll see what's going on on the big ass Fans
hotline and see what John Short has to say. Good morning,
John Short, what do you got for us?

Speaker 6 (10:48):
Good morning everybody, your great Americans? Before the football game.
I'm very sure we play soccer today. I'm for sure
you can't play soccer today.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
We do play soccer. Hold on, hold on, gonna be
a win, right John, yep?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
I who we play.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Women's soccer plays Detroit Mercy at one o'clock.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Okay, we moving that game about Tim Bigans and.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Now it'll be on SEC Plus.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
Let me get that. So then, which is on the
WL E P I can listen to it right at
one o'clock, which it is.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
But we don't do a whole lot of soccer on
our radio, do you it would be it would be
zero soccer on the radio. And I don't know what
volleyball schedule is for u K, but we've done volleyball
in the past, so usually about four games for volleyball.
But as soon as I had that information, I'll pass
it along.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
And if you missed a game, if you missed the
game today, then you can check out the boys play
tomorrow against Bellerman at seven thirty.

Speaker 7 (11:50):
That's plus well when they gave out Tim big and
se now and then ready for I can tell it
to a high game where they would be a Jim
Danny game.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Barn Burner, how do you gonna say we're gonna win
again that soccer game by ten points? Then you're gonna
say a Toledo team. You've been talking to Larry Vaultoff aer,
haven't you? John's a great America?

Speaker 7 (12:13):
No, I haven't.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
Haven't We never stop that. I'm drop that from the handy.
We know that we went about sixty five big into Saturday.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Okay, cool, okay, he said Jim Dandel you mean Jim
Dandan is gonna be exciting for UK fans. I thought
you meant Jim Barrett burn Burner. As far as it's
gonna be a close game.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
Might be closer first ten to fifteen seconds.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yes, I agree with you. I agree with you, johnh.
Sure what else you got for us? You know we're
gonna have Molly on Molly Molly and Moley on Mali
Two's on Maley Bresowitz gonna be on with us as
eleven o'clock from Skinners Winners. They're gonna be in studio
with Larry Vault Knight. Let me get with it.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
That'd be great because they you know, a week from
today they play Nebraska on National TV, National Network TV
on ABC, John, what a game?

Speaker 2 (13:01):
That game is at noon? I believe twelve on ABC.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
Yep, But when that game, but when they will win
that one too. We'll win the other one game? Five
games and nothing. Let me see, PA.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Win is only rank number one? I mean, why that's right?
If you want to be number one, don't you have
to beat number one? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (13:20):
So let's instead of sweeping on three, oh, let's just
play two extra sets and beat them five zero?

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Does mash them.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
That's right, John, I can't think man, you know, take
them stay for two more beatings.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Josh Shore. We appreciate your call, John Short and the optimism.
There is always a pleasure to speak with you.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
All right, we will continue to show over Tod that's
his best prediction. This is the Stockyards Bank Sunday more
of sports Talk on news radio six thirty w l
a P.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w
l a P.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Well, I back the Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk.
I'm Anthony White along with Larry Vaulk and Jack Pilgrim.
Stockyards Bank is your trusted partner, has been, will always
be your trusted partner, and they've been around since nineteen
one hundred and four. So head on over to syb

(14:19):
dot com for all your banking and financial needs. Jack Pilgrim,
I know you only got one more segment with us.
I ain't gonna football you an you too much anymore,
because when you leave, Larry vaud and I are gonna
talk a whole lot of football and a whole lot
of volleyball. But we still have a basketball team. This
is a basketball school, I will admit that. And there

(14:43):
are people who are concerned that on social media, Mark
Pope has these long guys zip lining and is that healthy?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Is that something that you would kind of is there
that much team building that seems a little dangerous.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
It's good, it's mentally healthy, it's good for your mental health,
but uh, physically, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
We'll see.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
And they're they're riding jet skis and tubing, jumping off
boats and uh skiing and doing a whole bunch of
you know.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Water sports.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
Today they were playing pickleball and basketball with some kids
and uh Eastern Kentucky yesterday.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
So they're they're making you know, they're doing what they did.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Last summer by becoming Kentucky's team, by getting out and
you know, experiencing the community and and you know wanting
to you know, become one with the state instead of
just kind of being idolized basketball players, wanting to become
something more than that. I love all of that and
and what kind of goes into that. And yes, I
love on the surface what they're doing and the event

(15:52):
activities they're doing and how fun it is and all
that stuff, but uh yeah, going up the big skylift
at Natural Bridge, watching them and knowing that there's just
one little bar that.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
They could lift up and fall out at any given moment.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Or there's that picture of them showing on top of
the big cliff, the entire roster standing out on the edge,
and you're like, you know what if like a big
gust of wind or something just magically hits at the
wrong time, you know, you just see it kind of
gets those those invasive thoughts to just kind of creep
in and you're like, yeah, I'd rather not I'd rather

(16:27):
not even deal with that and experiment with that, just
in case something bad happened. So yeah, I love that
they're doing this, but let's let's ease up on some
of the dangerous stuff and let's let's wrap them up
in bubble bubble wrap until basketball season.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I would have preferred them to do the zip line
over at the main event on Nicholas Field Road. It's
a little more controlled, it's a little more safe, even
though I was scared when I did it back in December,
but I would have felt so much better if Mark
Pope and the team would have done that just throwing
it out there for consideration. The next time they try
it they can.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Well, I mean that's that's don't make the chairlifts sound
like that's the most stagers. Hell, I ride the chairlifts, Jack,
I mean, I'm okay with them, ride the chair I
won't know why they didn't hike up to Natural Bridge
get the full experience. Cheerlift did some of that?

Speaker 2 (17:15):
They did some of I think they hiked up and
rode the skylift down. If I's just reading the social
media tea leads.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
Then that makes me like, that makes me worry about
the intelligence of this team. If you hiked up and
rode down basketball like you're gonna translate.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
And Jacob so they're not. So they're doing all this
thrill seeking. I don't know if it's thrill seeking or
you think it's building their their mental confidence to take
on challenges. And because you know Mark Pope, I don't
think he does anything just for fun. You think you know,
he's getting their their heads ready to take on challenges.
So when the games in the clutch that you you

(17:59):
don't fling, which.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
I don't think it's anything to do with I think
it's just team bonding. It's you know, no different than
going to the pool or going you know, doing local activities.
I just think that Pope wants, you know, Pope has
just gone out of his way to make sure our
players know that, you know, like Kentucky basketball isn't limited

(18:24):
to the city of Lexington in that community. It extends
so much deeper into the roots of you know, Appalachia
and western Kentucky and you know, from you know, like
Bil to Paduca, like just all of the surrounding areas.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Pope wants to know that, Hey like it. BBN is
deep and.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Strong, from left to right, up and down.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
It's not you know, Louisville's kind of isolated to you know, Louisville.
Things are isolated Louisville. But BBN is everywhere, and it's
just consumes the state. And these people are the ones
that you know, pay you or nil bill. You know,
it does kind of become you know that these guys
are the reasons why you can have life altering generational

(19:09):
opportunities here at the University of Kentucky as supporters, as fans,
but also they're right in your you know, your inn
il checks by showing up games and buying your jerseys
and doing all these things. So I think there is
just kind of a an appreciation. Hey, you're gonna, you know,
appreciate wearing that Kentucky across your chest. Uh, those those
talking points during the season.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Start right now. As you stated, this is a basketball team,
so they're doing all this thrill seeking is that stuff.
Ain't playing no basketball? Why not just work on your
craft so that we can win number nine? They will.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
We did get you know, everybody had me. Deserves some
time off and some breaks and things like that. So
they this is the you know campfire weekend, or they
sing around and sing songs and uh, you know, roast
marshmallows and all that.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
And then and workout start next week.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
And then after that, once we get to September is
when the official practices are legally allowed to start for
these Like the NCAA doesn't even let you practice right
now yet, So the official preseason practices will start in September,
and then then the journey to number nine begins.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
See, you know, we else deserves some time off. Larry Vault,
who's at Jack Pilgrim Jack pick them, take the rest
of the day off. Get your tailgate, Get your tailgate.
Experience ready because this is game week. Bo Robinson and
I are gonna tune up the band wagon. Larry Vaughan
is gonna convince the rest of Big Blue Nation how
good we're gonna be when we come back. You're listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on News Radio

(20:37):
six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught. This is how Sundaymore is
war Start. It's brought to you by Country Boy Brewing.
You can see Larry over here cutting rug. That's what
I love about Bo. He plays music, and I know, well, yeah,

(21:11):
I love that Bose really good at the music playing.
But you know what us, our head football coach is
good at coaching football. Well he's gonna return back to
being good at coaching football, Larry up.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
And that's because say he went fourgn eight last year, Anthony,
but you corrected yourself.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
That's okay, he went four and eight last year. But
I'm not certain that everybody was pulling on the rope.
And that's kind of where I don't you guys continue
you all continue to act as if so if you
if you're playing your grandson, if you're running, well, your grandson,

(21:53):
obviously you said, has beaten you in marathons and things
of such. If you are not giving your full effort
and your beats you, does that make your grandson better
than you? If your grandson participate in me against something,
did that make him better than me? If I didn't
give my full.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
Effort, Well, that's a bad analogy because even with my
best effort, I can't beat him anymore. So it doesn't
really matter on my effort there. But I don't know,
sometimes you just get beat down. You could give them
your best effort, and that's what it seems like happened
with Kentucky last year. They just kind of But when
ty Brian though, told me that he even thought some
guy thought all they had to do was just show

(22:28):
up out there last year, they're gonna win the first game.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
So I don't know.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
Maybe they weren't given great effort from the day it
started or maximum effort.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Well, I just don't think they wanted to strain. And
that's one thing. One of the coaches on the football
team always uses a word. He uses it and I
think Brad White is using it. They kind of use words.
Strain means when when you're given everything, you can give
give him some more when and I think Eric Thomas
always talks about Uh, he was training and the trainer

(23:02):
pushed his head under the water and he would bring
him right up at the last secred he's, oh, he's grasping.
He's gasping for just any kind of breath he can get.
And then he said, that's what playing sports is like.
Every play. You want to give your effort the same
way you want that next breath, the way you you
held out as long as you could when you whenever

(23:23):
you how very much air you could get in once
you brought you above the water. That's how much air
you want. That's that's how bad you want to bring
How bad did you want to breathe when you are
underneath the water. That is how it's supposed to be.
When you're in competition, if you're giving maximum energy and
you're winning, you probably can go in a cruise control.
If you're giving maximum energy and you're losing or your
neck and neck, you got to dig a little deeper.

(23:45):
So I don't think I said I'm with you. I
don't think it got to a point where it was
too much and they stopped giving. Because there was a
lot of games where the Auburn game, we should have
been up seventeen seventeen points in the first half. We tried,
it got a little tough. We you know what, Look, man,
I ain't gonna give anymore. And I do blame I
do blame Mark Stoops for that. And I think the

(24:08):
solaces and knowing that Mark Stoops knows that when the
guys started putting in crews Controler giving up, that he
didn't push them. He let it happen, so he knows.
Now look the rest of you guys, and this is
where with fifty new players, I think now the guys
Mark Steups knows, I'm not letting you do this again.
I'm not letting you do this to me. I'm not
letting you do that to yourself. But I also think

(24:31):
now we don't have any of those guys who realized
last year. You know what all we gotta do is
just tell coach I'm tired, I'm hurt or whatever, and
then he no, these are that's why everybody's saying that
fifty new guys, These fifty new guys don't know what
Mark he has a new opportunity to teach these guys. Look,
when you tired, I'm gonna make you tired. Earth when
you hurt, it's going you're gonna hurt a little bit

(24:53):
more like you hurt her. Yeah, so does that And
I think everybody looks atlast year's team, and that's why
everybody's saying, this is not last year's team that is
going to be better for that reason alone. Does that
not give you? Does that not give you a little
bit more optimism? Knowing that, I think, and I'm pretty
sure that Mark Steubs knows that those guys gave up,

(25:14):
and for whatever reason, he didn't ask them not to
give up, because maybe he thought that tread for a
portal would lose them.

Speaker 5 (25:21):
The only thing I would throw in there. I don't
think at this time of year ago we knew that
those guys are going to give up. Oh absolutely no,
absolutely didn't. Still, that's to me, still the unknown. I've
just kind of got to still see. And it's not
just for Kentucky. I mean, it's the other teams too.
I mean like last year Vandy I think was just
the opposite. Instead of giving up, they did just what
you said, and somehow that dug in there in one

(25:43):
game they shouldn't have won, but they but they found
a way to win them because they maybe kicked that
in a little bit more So, that's you never know
about that.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
On the schedule of.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
The team Zikkentucky's going to be playing either there could
be some of them going to be a lot better
than we think. Some of them will be as good
as we think. So that's try to me, this is
such a hard season to project because I'm still like you,
I still think sitting here a year ago, thinking that
Kentucky was gonna win eight games, I'd probably think the
same exact thing again with the roster that they had

(26:11):
based on the town right around the talent of that roster.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
So again you look at it like this, Larry Vaught,
Southern miss they scored zero points against US. We went
down to South Carolina late in Egg Georgia scored thirteen
points against US. The Ohio team again, the Ohio team
that scored six points against US, and we scored forty
one points against US. That also beat Toledo also beat Toledo,

(26:35):
and then we went down to Oxford and beat Old Miss.
N only scored seventeen points. Then Vanderbilt man twenty points.
We only scored thirteen. We at score a whole heap
of lot. Then we went down to Gainesville or whatever
happened down in Gainesville. The wheels fell off, the wills
fell off. But when we came back against Auburn, if
we don't, if we don't make a bone here to

(26:58):
play before half, we were up seventeen. Yeah, so so
we we did play some good football. I just think
whenever we decided to stop straining, I don't the teammates,
the coaches did not ask the players to regain. So
that's why you I'm not I'm not jumping to I
don't know why you put that on social media. I'm

(27:19):
not jumping to nine wins.

Speaker 8 (27:20):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Instead of like going up, I figure you had another
week of the what is the worst you thought I
thought we were gonna be even at even when I
was at my lowest, even when I was at my lowest, believe,
and no, no, never, you didn't think. So that's the
way I kind of thought it interpreted those three out
of conference games to give me is we're gonna get Vandy,
and now it's we're gonna we're gonna get Vandy. I
think we're gonna get South Carolina. Had Dandy be Kentucky

(27:44):
the last two years. Yeah, when's last time in Florida
beat This was last year. Yeah, but before that was
Florida coming to the season saying, you know, you know
we lost to Kentucky the last four or five years.
Let's lose again South Carolina. Yeah, well South Carolina one
when we have to sist game winning street with South
Carolina saying you know what we're gonna We're gonna go

(28:05):
down to the Lexton. We're gonna lose, but no, we gotta.
We got to concede defeat to everybody because we've had
and like I said, you have never really given credit
or credence to the whole idea that those guys were
not playing last year at some point after we come
back from Gainsville. So I understand, you understand the history

(28:26):
of football and some things.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
I'm playing all out all year even when they play
some of their better games, I'm not sure that so you.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Don't think they were playing all out against Georgia, if
the coach, if the coach takes the same if he
takes the same liberties, if he takes the same risk
as he did against Old miss Because you know, if
you give Lane Kiffin the ball back that you know,
if you if you get a score match with Lane
Kiff and it's gonna it's not probably gonna work out
of your favorite. But against Georgia, you know, we gotta
play ball control. We can't give him another opportunity. We
can't take risks. You just got to be smart. So

(28:55):
we that was not the player's fault. That was kind
of play calling or the the coaching didn't have faith
in the players. Now here's something you might want to
might want to put underneath your hat. Maybe that Georgia
game showed the players that the coach don't have faith
in you. You know what that means if you don't.
If I have a girlfriend and she thinks she can't

(29:15):
trust me, you know what I think about her. I
can't trust you, right? Does that make sense? That makes sense?
Because if if you don't trust me, do I can?
I expect you to be faithful?

Speaker 5 (29:27):
But maybe the well, I don't know. It's hard to
look back and know that for sure, but one way
or the other. So last season is over and done.
Let's just see what happens. But like I just want
to say, I just want to see. Just give me
two weeks to see.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
So this week, what would have to happen Saturday? What
would have to happen Saturday for you to now? I
know you're gonna still wait till old miss, but what
would happen that to make you feel like, Okay, I'm
gonna because you gotta write. You gotta write stories about it,
so your story is gonna be.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Add That was odd.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
That was because last week you were worried about Toledo.
Two weeks ago, you were worried about Toledo. So you
can't saying I'm not still worried. I just think Kentucky
will win. Okay, So once they win, are you gonna
what is your story gonna be about?

Speaker 6 (30:11):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (30:11):
What? I now?

Speaker 2 (30:12):
It was just Toledo. We were supposed to win, but
you weren't saying that two weeks ago. It depends on
how they play, That's what I'm saying. So what do
you have to see to make you right? To make
you right? I think sev seventeen point win a dominant
upfront both sides of the wall.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
Maybe not dominant Bird, but at least far better than Toledo.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
So here's here's one thing I think you can agree with.
I think it was four years ago when you and
I were doing the show and we were playing a
mid major and there were there's a whole lot of leakage. Come.
That's when I first started seeing the problems up front.
There was a lot of leakage, like if you can't
stay in front. And like I said, Toledo probably has
good a good team, uh as far as football players,

(30:53):
but we should have better football players. South Carolina last
year defensive front was was great. Yeah. So them getting
you know, them getting some leakage, them getting pressured. Ah,
you can't. But so if Toledo comes in they started
getting pressure, we gonna see better defensive fronts. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
So if Toledo has four sacks and eight quarterback hurry
we and Kentucky only rushes for eighty six yards.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Then you got a problem. Even if we win, Yeah,
then then I would I would be concerned. What if
we have like this, What if we have two hundred
and eighty five yards rushing, ten passes for eighty yards
and we win by twenty points. I feel better. So
I'm saying, but we so you don't need to see
anything out of the passing game, or maybe the quarterback
needs to prove anything to you or bush Ham this playbook.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
No, because I think they're gonna live and die with
a run this year.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
What if we win forty five to thirty thirty two,
then I'd say, break how mommy back baby thirty us
giving up thirty two points?

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Yeah, that's that's mummy ball. Your team gave up thirty
two all the time. No, that was on a thirty
two is a good game. That was a win for
you guys. If your defense only give up thirty.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Two, that was a win. That wasn't that really was
at Hal Mummy. That was Mike Matrix. That was on
staff though. That was Hal's guy.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
So it was almost like they just wanted to get
the ball, let him score. So y'all have the ball
back to score again.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Yeah. I like that. So last year again, looking for
improvement because I'm trying to, you know, see where we
stand as far as mentally as a fan base or
like I said, as as sports writers in the media.
I think our defense. Our defensive front was good for
a lot of the season. I think toward the end

(32:33):
of the season that may be where you may be
right where I think the defensive front started giving up
a little bit and started playing selfish ball where they
weren't accommodating to each other, and people started gashings on
the run game, so they didn't really Our defensive backs
look a whole lot better because they never had they
never really had to pass the ball because they were
gash lists. And I'm quick to tell the defensive line coach,

(32:54):
which is a good friend of mine, Hey, y'all laid
an egg and I can't tell you some of the
conversations here that yeah, I can't tell you to coming.
But they were really good those first six games that
even the South Carolina game, we were pretty good offensive,
we just did zero. We did jack because South Carolina
defense was so good. So I'm just kind of staying

(33:16):
on the defense. So we talked a lot about the
office side the ball. They got to prove a whole lot.
Are you concerned any bit about what we need to
see on the defense, because we're pretty I think we're
pretty veteran in our defensive backfield our back end, we're
pretty pretty veteran. I got confidence in Rainer and Alex
Fari and those guys doing what they got do, and
I'm always gonna be confident in the defense line coach.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
I am anxious to see how Rainer and Alex hold
up physically.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
That's what everybody said at the position.

Speaker 5 (33:44):
They got to play nothing against him just because of
their size, and to play that middle linebacker spots in
the SEC is pretty pretty brutal. So I would would
just want to see how they kind of hold up,
and then how the guy who's going to be somebody
behind them that if they do get nicked up little bit,
who can come in and help right there? So and
then like saying, the defensive line heard many good things,

(34:06):
and the defensive line coach is not one to say
good things just to be a nice guy, right, So
when he's talking about he likes some of these guys,
that carries a lot of credibility with me, just because
I've known anwar for so long, watched him play, and
knowing that normally he's telling you everything that's wrong, so
he's talking about something that's right, It makes me think
he feels good about that.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
I do like that, and before we go to break,
and we're gonna have one more segment before we get
malium mali on. But before we go to break, though,
it's one thing you think about, Like Joe sia Hayes
was a guy who had a high upside coming in
as a freshman. He's been moved down but all across
the depth chart. How do you feel about this? I mean,
like I said, we do have to go to break.
We can continue on the other side of the break.

(34:47):
But even Joe sia Hayes, a guy who got a
lot of reps, has been moved down to depth chart
maybe second string ish ish, maybe third. So that is
guy who has played in our defensive front, has shown
what they can do, but have moved down to depth chart,
which means we brought other talent in that maybe running

(35:07):
back we did the same thing. Wide receiver we did
the same thing. Quarterback we did the same thing. So
how does that make you say? Or like I said,
or is everybody gonna pin everything on big Dog? We
won't bringing the right talent into.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
Remains me that of course was hurt last year. Yeah, yeah,
like I say, the thing with will Cox at running
back still puzzles me a little bit because he had
average six yards care yeah say what I mean, he's.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Still average, so but uh yeah, we'll just see.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
But I think the defensive line, I don't worry as
much about who starts there because an rotate guys in
and out. I'm more worried does he have seven or
eight that can do what he wants instead of just three.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Yeah, like you said, everybody can do something different if.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
He didn't start, And that doesn't worry me because he's
still gonna get plenty of snamps.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
He's doing what he's supposed to do. Absolutely, We'll continue
this conversation on the other side of this break. You're
the Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news Radio
six thirty WLP.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Forde Radio Network on six thirty w
L a P. Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk.
I'm Anthony White along with Larry Vault. This hour Sunday
Morning Sports Talk has brought to you by Country Boy Brewing.

Speaker 7 (36:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
I'm convinced. I've convinced everybody. I ain't gonna say we're
gonna win nine games, but we're gonna go over five hundred.
We're gonna not repeat a four and eight season. But
Bill is on the big ass hands hotline, so we're
gonna go over there. Larry Vault has returned, looked a
little bewildered, lethargic. Bill helped me out. Did you say
nine wins? No?

Speaker 4 (36:49):
I did not?

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yes, I said, I'm not saying nine wins? Bill? What
do you got for us?

Speaker 8 (36:55):
Okay? You know you've talked about the students. Is gonna
have to coach a different they did last year? Stuff
he accepted last year. My question is what is he
gonna do different or not different in terms of the
personal fouls after the whistle the fall starts? What should
he have done last year for that? What's he gonna

(37:16):
do this year? But that happens, right, How did he
deal with that?

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Well? That was the thing. I think he was too
lenen last year. He let the players, really he let
the inmates run this asylum last year. And I think
because the fan base is at his head, and you know,
I think he's just not a foreign eight type coach.
I think he's gonna hold the players more accountable. He's
gonna hold the assistant coaches more accountable. I think those
guys gave up last year because he didn't he didn't
press him or and didn't want to because I think

(37:43):
he feared to transfer a portal. So when I think
is gonna happen different this year, They're not gonna have
all that all that wiggle room, that leniency to do
whatever you want to do. You got to come out
of strain.

Speaker 6 (37:55):
So what's he gonna do?

Speaker 8 (37:56):
I mean, specifically, you're the discipline, hold accountable.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah, you're gonna discipline them. Bill. Do you think you
think those guys, just the guys who transferred this year,
do you think they just transferred because uh they it
was better. No, he transferred because I'm not paying you guys.
These are expectations, and a lot of guys left because
they didn't like Mark Stups putting his foot down. But
as a parent, as a guardian, as a as a
as a leader, if you allowed them to be outside

(38:26):
of the boundaries and you try to pull them back
inside the boundaries, then that's that's uncomfortable for him. So
they're gonna go where it's more comfortable. He made it
too comfortable for him. I understand your questions. I got
faith that Mark Stops is not going to allow the
inmates to run this aside of them again. But you
see what he's see what he's saying. Yeah, yeah, you
agree with last.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
Year and with the pay that some of these guys get.
And you've even said yourself, it's hard to discipline guys
because of the money they make.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Yes, we just take the money from you. We're not
gonna pay you if you want to. Oh okay, No,
I'm saying we're gonna pay you this mount You know
how many times a negotiation period like in sports. Yes,
but I want this more than money. I'm walking walked in.

Speaker 5 (39:06):
But if they've already got the money for this year
and they didn't get that attitude.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Those guys last year, those guys here, we'll be back
with hope. We'll be back with Molly and Maley. Thanks
for the call. We appreciate. When we come back. We
have Maley and Maley, two of Skinner's winners, and we
will talk a little volleyball. We'll be back after this year.
