Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank. Sunday Morning Sports Talk I mean
Anthony White along with Larry Vault talking UK football, UK
volleyball is on this afternoon, right after this show, right
after the show, you can check them out twelve noon
Skinners Winners. There will be in Nashville, Tennessee, so you
can't watch them in person here, but you can watch
(00:24):
them on ABC against number one Nebraska. But we are
talking mostly Kentucky football. I guess sad defeat, I mean sad, yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Not their defeat. They defeated Toledo.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Rockets sixteen twenty four to sixteen. But everybody doesn't seem
to be happy. Larry Vaught's not convinced, but Lissa may
have convinced her a little bit. Larry, and she seems
pretty straightforward, like she didn't mince a whole lot of
words about Zach cause I didn't know. And as the callers,
we've had call in and there's people on social media
(00:59):
who's not beating up the guy. We just kind of
really need to know if that's the answer going forward.
The first week is probably going to be an ugly week,
But did a Lissa convince you anymore to be optimistic?
About the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
No, I don't think so, because I think she had
some of the same concerns that I have, and I
think some of the same positives I saw she saw.
She's probably a little bit more upbeat than what I
thought maybe she might be about Kentucky. But I think
she summed it up pretty well. Let's see what happens
against ole Miss, and I think again, that'll answer a
(01:40):
lot of questions, because, like I say, Zach's got to
play better against ole Miss. The wide receivers have got
to play better against Ole Miss. And those were two
question marks going into game one, and those are two
big question marks that, at least in my mind, didn't
get answered. I think the running game did what you
were hoping it would do. Offensive line looked pretty good
(02:02):
to me. I think the defense was really good for
what we say, forty seven forty eight minutes. Had a
little bit of laps there at the end, but again
that doesn't worry me too awfully much.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
But again, the I.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Don't expect them to throw for three hundred yards a game,
but they got to throw for more than eighty five.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I think, Anthony, I agree with you, And I was
watching the old miss game toward the end, and Lane's
trying to put up points I guess trying to scare.
I don't know who he's trying to scare by putting
up sixty some points on little JV teams, But it
is what it is. Here's the luxury of what we
have going on. So I absolutely agree with you. I
(02:40):
don't care who lines of the quarterback. And I said
this all off season. We got to we got to
move the chains. We have to on third and three.
We got to be able to convert third and two,
hope and hopefully third and seven we should be able
to convert. I'm not saying that's a likely event that
you convert on third and seven, but third and five
and shorter, we have to have a chance to convert.
And I say this is because you have the luxury
(03:01):
of a defense that may not give up any points.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
All game long.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
But as you stated, I don't know if it has
to be three hundred yards I don't even know if
it has to be two hundred yards passing, but we
need to be able to pick up third and seven.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So if it's.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Ten third downs and we pick up ten of them
and they come on pass plays and it's only seven yards,
that's seventy yards. That's fine with me. We just have
to convert. Because our defense is so good, you have
the luxury of non look, we can take a risk,
and that may be where Mark Stoops needs some improvement.
Our defense is so good, let's take some risk on offense.
(03:38):
How many how many fourth down conversions in less than
two yards? Three or two yards do we have yesterday?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Larry Vaux?
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Three stop fourth conversions because our defense is that's stout.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I don't know off the top of my head. I'm
doing to give me the number.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
They were one up.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
There were one for four on fourth down conversions, so
we stopped three of them, one on the goal line
which led to the which led to the safety, but
or not the goal line two three hours whatever, so
but it was in the within the red zone. So
we our defensive stout. We have a good enough defense
that you can take risk on offense with the luxury
(04:17):
of knowing our defense to get us the wall back
if it doesn't work.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Out, Okay, yeah, I don't dispeap that.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
And then that was the other quest. And the other
thing was I think our office line played pretty good.
I thought they stayed physical, they stayed active, they stayed engaged,
or you know, they were even if they did lose
their man, they kind of kept their feet and hands active,
you know, trying to give give the quarterback some time.
And it was asked on Twitter on X do I
(04:46):
think the quarterback issues can be fixed? And I do
think they do. I do think Zach is trying to
do the right thing. I do think he, like I said,
I don't think he's processing fast enough. But I do
think he understands where to go with the ball with
the expectation is of the play and maybe Bush needs
to you know, dummy down the playbook. Maybe he needs
(05:09):
to dummy down where Zach can understand it, or you know,
find out what plays that Zach can run, and that's's
on third down in certain situations where we need conversions
that he's running a part of the playbook that he's
comfortable with. That comes Larry Vaught with that comes the
playbook itself may get small enough where it makes Bush
(05:29):
look bad because he only has a limited amount of
playbook available. If your players can't run the whole schemes,
there's a limited amount of the playbook available, which I
heard a rumor this weekend Larry fuck and it's I
feel I feel terrible because none of the former or
none of the running backs that held over from last
(05:52):
year got an opportunity to touch the ball. But I
also heard that one because I think Seth and Jamirion
Jamirion does the same. I think they're the same type
of people. I think you don't lose anything. But we've
also been talking about the future of Kentucky football, like
(06:12):
if if jamiri An Wilcox is going to be the
guy moving forward, or if he's going to get opportunity,
we need to give him the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
There seems to be some playbook retention issue.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
There is, I think a little bit why Jamia is
not getting a whole heap of a lot of.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Respect or not.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I don't even say respect, but I think opportunity and
a lot of people, you know kind of question.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
You know what's going on with our offense? Is it Bush?
Is that the players?
Speaker 1 (06:46):
And like I said, like I said on Twitter, I
think it's not really Bush. But if he has a
Eddie gran like Eddie Grean asked, if he has a
lineup or a roster full of players he needs to adjust.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
The players shouldn't really adjust to his playbook.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
If you got those type of guys, that's fine, But
it seems like there's a lot of people that may
not be picking up what he's putting down, or may
not have a capacity to pick up but he's putting down.
At the end of the day, it's all gonna fallo
on Bush Hampden if you got a rite, so you
didn't do a good job of evaluating or picking the
players to fit your system. If the players can't pick
(07:26):
up your system, they're not picking up your system, or
you can't utilize them or your playbook. So there's gonna
be a whole lot of questions answered next week. My
question I think to you is do you have more
faith in Brad White's defense keeping Lane Kiffin's offense stagnant
more than our offense putting together I'm not saying points,
(07:49):
just putting together we can get a field goal, ranger,
putting together drives and keeping the change moving to where
you know, we probably can get some points, whether there's
three points of possession, maybe a touchdown here, maybe twenty points,
maybe two touchdowns and two field goals, and then our
defense just trying to, you know, keep laying in those
guys out of the end zone.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, I kept confidence in the defense I think going
in that they will do a good job. I think
when you were talking earlier about what was Lane Kippen
doing trying to put points on the board, I think
that was just the old hell Mummy philosophy. The more
you can put up there, no matter who you're playing,
the more I'm gonna put up there. I mean, I
think that's just how he does and probably just add
(08:34):
a little bit of confidence for his team going into
this week against Kentucky. But yeah, I still feel pretty
good about the UK defense going up against the old
Miss offense, and still have my questions on the other
side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
But I think Brad.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
White and the group that he's got that group up front,
and they did get a couple of guys banged up
a little bit, And if Grace is not hum for
Crazy is not back this week, that could make a
difference because I thought he was really good until he
got hurt. But they've got a lot of guys up
there that you really like and can do their jobs.
It seems like very very well.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
So I feel pretty good about.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
That and like having the game at Kroger Field. I
think the atmosphere will be a lot better than what
it was this week, and so I feel good about
that part of it. But the offense is still gonna
have to be able to do something in the passing game.
I mean, because yeah, they ran for over two hundred yards,
but let's be real, I mean, how often are you
going to break an eighty yard runoff. You're not gonna
(09:31):
do that all the time to get you to that
two twenty so but still they churned that yards and
they needed to. But you've got to be able to
throw the ball some because I would think, oh, miss
is gonna stack that box and make them show they
can complete passes to wide receivers, wouldn't you think so anything?
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, I think, I absolutely do.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
I think Lane Kiffin is that arrogant that he's gonna like, look,
I'm going to step right up and show you what
I think you can do. You got to show me
you can do it. And that's Lane's thing, and I
think Lane knows, and he's probably he's an offensive minded guy.
He can get his offense going. But I do I'm
with you. I do think he's gonna come out and
know that he can probably fool around and get a
(10:11):
couple of points just because manipulating offense. His whole thing
is going to be. Let's say, if we can't get
some points on defense because he don't believe in our offense.
So you're right, this is gonna be a good challenge.
I got to mark down as a win in my book.
You know what, I always have marked down as a
win to Larry Vault when we get on the big
ass fans hotline with a little toon war. When you
get a little some ward on the big ass fans
(10:31):
hot line, that's a win.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
What you got for me? Little too?
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Yes, going out too my top guys, A dove, Anthony
White and also Verry Vault in Good morning guys. I'm
just sitting here. When I sit here, I'm doing a
sea wall for about four miles and I just listened
to the to the talk show I'll tell you where
it's starting now a list of Lane did a great
job give insight on the UK football team, and I'll
(10:57):
so that was a blessing to hear her insights on
that as a posing cars for me. The prose of
it is yesterday I felt like that being in a
position where Kentucky was on upset alert against Toledo. You know,
we pull through. You know it's the ugly win, but
they pulled through and they got the w on the
other side of it. We'll talk offense first. I just
(11:20):
wonder another that it looks like the office is still
trying to fight that grew It was in summer camp,
you know, but he's got a lot of new guys
on the office office side of the ball. Wide receiver play,
quarterback play, and maybe some office of Lina that a
new tea. I just wonder how much live scrimmages that
those guys had in summer camp besides on saturdays in
(11:42):
summer camp a fall camp, I should say, because I
don't know how much the wide receivers had dB put
hands on them and be type on him trying to
make play. You gotta you can assimulate that in just
in game play. You gotta simulate gameplay in practice, and
it's just end for preparation, so they get used to
(12:03):
all that movement at buston that Toledos pretty dvs are
pretty dag on aggressive, and I felt like our receivers
that the balls there they could have called, but they
was not looking to be able to pull in or
they turn like people were creeping up on them. They
weren't used to that. That that discomfort and I had
to say it set plays starts next week, and that's
(12:24):
gonna be a lot more just selfie. So I think
officers say if they consider trying to figure it out,
finally grew I do like to down the here running back.
They got two down here running back and see very
aggressive uh Mo wins type of mentality Ray mcglourin type
of mentality running backs. They looks like me from my perspective,
(12:44):
I haven't they still be somebody like Anthony White. They
shifty and to come out of the back to them
they play, and you gotta have those backs too. It
looks like the other kid that's on the sideline that's
a veteran, that he's that kind of kies. So they
need to continue to bre it or you won't go
that dynam had exams and you can't. You gotta have
some guys that shift because STC linebackers and the line
(13:05):
and they're all they're gonna plug that up, and you
gotta have some movement and find some edges to get
on the edge of running back. Defensively, sorry about that. Defensively, uh,
I thought the defense played solid three and a half quarters. Man,
uh they look very energetic. Looks like the DEGs coordinators
done a good job preparing them and they were really
(13:27):
ready to roll. You know. So DJ played a really
solid three and a half quarters. They gave up some
touchdowns at the end count in the fourth quarter, they
gave up in the yardage, but for the most part,
they did their job and they played really solid. It
seems like they jailed and they chemistry is really well.
So I believe going into the STEC play next week
(13:47):
when next week the old miss, the offense has to
figure out what is our true identity. And of course
it's a run game probably, but those receivers, whether you're
outside receiving, slot receive, they gotta find ways to make plays,
whether it's short passes that take them to the house.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
And I know the.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
Quarterback wants to chunk it and get the big play.
It's not all it's gonna be there all the time.
So the mid range eighteen and twenty yard gig and
they come back at twelve and fourteen yards. You gotta
figure out to show those routes man to get those
dv's offer, because these dv's in the SEC that will
smother you. They are man a man bumping one guys
(14:28):
and our receivers that I get used to it and
they must catch your trastic. But that's kind of my take.
We look good, we got to win, but there's some
things they say up really fast.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
And really fad.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
We gotta get to a break a little the ward,
thank you for giving us a car. As always, we
will continue this show on the other side of this break.

Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony What.
Along with the great Larry Vaught, Stockyards Bank is your
trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four, So head on
over to syb dot com for all your banking and
financial needs. Thanks to former defensive back UK Defensive Back
(15:27):
Hall of Fame little to Ward. But let's get to
the big ass fans hotline and say what she has
to say, it's been a long time a man.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Thanks for Colin. What do you got for us?
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (15:39):
How is everybody? I hope everybody's doing good. Yeah. I
was just calling in about the game yesterday. You know,
it would have been it would have been terrible if
Kentucky would have lost that game. This would be a
whole different conversation. And you know, the conversation that we're
having today is, you know, the offense of a good
quarterback doesn't look good. Wide receivers can't get over. Defensive
(16:01):
line looks pretty good. I still have some questions about
the secondary. Looks like the special teams are kind of shaky.
But this is game one, and of course you should
make some progression from game one to game two. But
I will say this, we got you to win yesterday.
It's not gonna win ball games the rest of the
year like that. You know, you're not gonna win many.
(16:23):
And you know what, you play four or five home
games this year. It was the ideal if you could start,
you know with a good home win, you know against
an SEC teams. That's what I think, that's what the
fans have been wrong for a while. Let's get some
home wins against SEC teams, and you know we have
(16:43):
a you know, you have your starting quarterback and you
have your backup if you were to put your backup
team yesterday, are you saying the wider receivers were going
to get any more open? I mean when when was
the last time Kentucky's offense threw more to the tight
end then to the wide receivers. And the wide receivers,
you know, the yards we gained from the receivers, you know,
(17:07):
hardly didn't get any yards. He had negatives down Dell.
I think the running back he had negative yardists. So
that left two catches, two or three catches for the
wide receivers for positive yards. You know, of the gen
completions you had. If Bowlie was in there was he
gonna who was he gonna throw to? You know, the
game plan is gonna have to change a little bit
(17:31):
on the offense. I mean, that's not gonna win you games.
All he had along the way the offense played yesterday,
I think that defensive line is stout because Toledo's quarterback,
I think in his greasing or something like that, he
had pressure. He had pressure in his face. You know,
for the most part, every time I went back there
(17:51):
to throw. But he did throw for two hundred and
seventy yards. That's a lot. You know, Toledo threw for
two hundred and seventy yards against these defense and they
had a ninety five yard drive you know at the
end of the game. But that type of stuff happens
in football. We had an eighty yard run. That type
of stuff happens in football. You can't take those plays away.
(18:13):
We'll play old miss that kid through. You know, the
closest games in the SE that the SEC team's played
yesterday was the Texas loss and the Alabama loss, and
then the Kentucky win was less than ten points. I
think it was the heat of nine, you know, eight
points that those were the closest SEC games. The rest
of the rest of the SEC they put up big numbers,
(18:35):
and you know that defense is gonna have to the
defensive backs, you're gonna have to figure out a way
to not give up you know, third and four, third
and five, you know, first downs that that's tough. You know,
you got to get off the field. And that defensive
line that they're as good as they played yesterday, it's
gonna have to You're not have to step up and
(18:56):
that we're still talking about punt returns and whatnot, Like
that's that's tough right there. I mean, you've had all
summer to come out your first game looks like this
on special teams, you know. I just think what got
us to win yesterday is not going to win games
all yourn. So I listened and I'll have a great weekend.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Cheers.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Thank you for the call, she Will Larry vaugh He
Here's one thing I've always said, and I've said this
for years on the show. Winning winning an ugly game
that you can learn from is probably more valuable than
having a blowout game that could uh set give you
the wrong mindset. As she Will said, there's some things
that happen in this game that's not particularly regular or
(19:38):
won't have it or you can't anticipate or expect to
happen in regular season or SEC games. But I mean
they did happen. Are you are you a proponent? Can
I convince you that all those things we did bad
yesterday we're gonna have on film now. So today they're
watching it, maybe tomorrow they're watching it and learning whether
to let the ball hit the ground on pump returns,
whether it's how receivers get open, whether it's how have
(20:05):
zach cos I'll be coming check down, Charlie. And I'm
not I'm not a big I'm not mad at us
throwing the ball to the tight end. Maybe ask running
back to it if he doesn't have time to get
it downfield. Larry Vaught, I believe if you drop the
ball off to a tight end, it's gonna be at
five yards every time, which.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Is two yards two yards better than my my h,
what I expect.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
I don't The only thing I would wonder about that
you just said when you watch the film and all
like that, can you teach receivers to get open in
a week? I mean, aren't you supposed to have receivers
that can get open anyway? And I know Toledo supposedly
had a really good secondary, but I'm assuming there's gonna
be a lot of really good secondaries in the SCC.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
And what can you teach a receiver to.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Get open in the next three days that you have
been able to teach him in three months.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Well, we're gonna talk to you about that because you
were really big on the receivers coach, So we got
to see what you were you so big on them about.
If you like to join the show eight five nine

Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony

Sports Talk is brought to you by Country Boy Brewing
d H and those guys down there. Go get you
a country boy. If you didn't enjoy the game, drink
you a couple of country boys. It'll make you feel
(21:48):
better about the game. It takes an edge off. Larry
Vault looking at the stats. I'm just kind of looking
at the game, and you know, Chi Wou's always a
real straight shooter. He said some good things. I'm not
mad at you for the way you feel. I'm really
surprised the way that BoA's perceiving the rest of this
(22:08):
season and the way he's during the break. Some of
the things he's saying and I keep getting discouraged. I
keep trying to stay encouraged. But here's the thing, Larry
var and Bo too. You listen here and you listen
good Bo. Here's the thing. Everybody's talking about.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
The ugly win.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
What's not going to work in the SEC. I have
a problem, and I should get clips of this show.
Larry Vaught, be more you, because Jack can be convinced,
or Jack will be quiet if he's not convinced. But
you steadily are you know, questioning our team. You didn't
like this, you didn't let There's some things about the
(22:46):
game I didn't like. I think some of the things
are fixable, and I think once you get the film,
you are going to be able to fix those. And
next week, if they look good against Old Miss and lose,
I'm fine with that. If they look good against Old
Miss and win, if they look bad against Ole Miss
and wins, I'm fine with that as well. The problem
is we we for three quarters played really good defensive
(23:07):
football and held Toledo, which one of the highest high
powered offenses in the country, to two points. And those
two points we gave them. They didn't even score those
two points. We gave them to them. We wind up
beating them to score sixteen to twenty four. We wind
up beating them, and we get callers calling in. We
(23:28):
got you sitting up there, Larry, we have you sitting
up there. Well, you know we're not CONVISI do you
know that Toledo had thirteen top twenty five votes. There
they are in the others to watch. Those are supposed
to be one of the top. If they would have
beat us, they probably would have been in the top
twenty five. They may have been twenty five, they would
have been one. They're one of the top teams in
(23:50):
the country.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
And now settled down what I told you that last week?
Speaker 4 (23:55):
You laughed at me. You shamed me. You told me
how bad Toledo was.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
You said they were sixth in the BAC and they
couldn't do this, They couldn't do that. You shamed me
for saying, Kack, you need to be worried about them.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
No, stick to your guns.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Stick to your guns that this is a good team
and we beat a good team, not a well this
is not going to work in the SEC. No, this
is one of the top teams in the country. It's
a top thirty team in the country.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
You were saying a week ago, I was telling you
when we're.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Gonna beat them, and we should have beat them if
we hadn't give up that late touchout, if we for
three quarters we played exactly like I told you. I
didn't know. Nobody had any idea what their offense is
gonna be. And be honest, Larry Wall We this is
not my podcast, so I'm not as honest as I
am on my podcast. But off air, I had never
in my I had never ever paid compliments to the
(24:41):
quarterbacks off air su or false. We're not gonna get
involved in it, but sru.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
Or false true.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
So everything I thought was gonna happen pretty much happened.
Our offensive line was better. I just didn't know our quarterbacks.
We're not gonna be able to carry out the playbook,
or maybe Bush came out with vanilla playbook because he's
saving it for next week. Point being is our fan
base and Larry Vault cannot sit up here and act
like last week. Yeah, well, their favorite to win is
(25:12):
gonna be tough to beat them. We man handle them
for most of the game. Okay, we can't give up
a fourth quarter. We definitely can't give up a fourth quarter.
Or half of a fourth quarter or whatever. But when
this was supposed to be a really good team, we
were supposed to be fearing them, And now all of
a sudden, since we beat them, well, we can't do
those things against other teams. Now it's not really a
(25:33):
good team they could be. In mind, I knew they
were going to be a good team, but I knew
we were better than them. So when you said what
I said to you last week, yeah, what I said
to you last week was I'm guaranteeing victory. Did it
end up closer than I thought?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (25:46):
But on paper and with Listen Lang Saw maybe, I mean,
given you know, some calls, some boneheaded plays, we probably
are two or three touchdowns better than they are.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Well, I mean, if you think they can win with
eighty five yards passing that, I'm We'll wait and see
what happens this week. I just think they've got to
get some things. The passing game has got to be better.
I said, the offensive line looked better to me, said
the defense played well for three plus quarters, Just that
the passing game has got to be better than what
it was. And I was just asking you can you
(26:24):
suddenly teach a receiver to get open in a week.
If that's the problem, the receivers couldn't get separation and
what like what Littleton was talking about, SEC defensive backs
are going to get right up in you and gonna
make it even harder for you to probably get open.
And can the quarterback play better? I mean, he's the
reason you started him. He has seven years experience. He
(26:44):
wasn't supposed to have to have time to learn what's
going on. He's supposed to be able to process things.
He's been doing it for six years. And also again
to me, that's the question still the question coming out.
Can they have enough of a passing game to be
successful in the SEC? And I didn't see anything Saturday
that makes me want to say, yes they can.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
I still got to see it.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
I got two questions.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
One thing I am concerned about the ability of the
receivers to get open and give whoever the quarterback is,
whether it's cutter or whether it's that I do. I
am concerned about the ability of those guys to get
open so the quarterback will have someone to throw it
to because this day and age is not I'm not
going to say it's like a tim culture. Andre Woodson
or some of those guys that at this level, which
(27:32):
is NFL Junior, you don't have open guys. You have opportunities,
you have windows, and you have anticipation. You don't have
open guys. This ain't high school, arryboy this ain't Damnville
Boyd County or Mercer County. You have to So the
thing is the receivers have to give the quarterback an opportunity.
And then you and Littleton brought that up, and that
(27:52):
is something that is worried. I mean you asked, is
that something you can fix over now?
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I don't. I'm not no.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
I don't think it is something you can fix overnight.
I think is either there or not. But we have
really good defensive back Larry Vault on our team. So
I'm going to assume that during practice they're going against
each other or our receiver, our new retiever. Coach is
knowing that we're gonna have a tough time, like you
got to give them something to put in that lunch
(28:19):
box and the work and a workbox toolbox to go
out on the field with. That's one thing coach anwarsh
Steward and I discuss all the time. If his defensive
line is getting dominated. You know, there's different things hand placement,
first step, alignment, eyes, hands, everything, like there's certain things
he gives them that. Okay, you know you're insufficient in
(28:40):
this point at this part of a game. Let's adjust
this like you're going to give them an opportunity. But
I mean that does give me worry that are off
our receivers are having a hard time getting off the
ball or getting separation for the quarterback to anticipate or
have the desire to throw it to him. And is
that something you can fix over a week? Probably not,
(29:03):
But I think at that point you have to check
the ball down to the tight ends or the running back.
At the end of the day, I just want to
move the change. And you asked me, is eighty five
yards passing going to win a game? Let me ask
you this, Larry Vault in the air raid, does forty
five yards rushing win you a game in the SEC?
Speaker 8 (29:22):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Yeah, because she has five yards pace exactly.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
So we rushed for three hundred and some yards.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
We don't have to have a well we have to
have is eighty We could do eighty five, but said
a long, we move the sticks when we need to.
But I get your point, but I just don't like
the whole idea that we were supposed to lose the Toledo.
Toledo has a really good offense and we held them
to nothing. Now every the concerns about our offense are valid.
(29:50):
They are valid, But I do think, well, once we
get some film watching, I think Bush will be able
to make adjustments. Everybody should be able to make adjustments.
And the physicality of our receivers. I think Kendrick Law
just because he played at Alabama and has been around
some talented defensive backs and good receivers coaches before prior
coming here, I think he probably can make the adjustment.
(30:13):
I think Maclin should be able to. And the other thing,
Larry Vaud. If we want our receivers to get open,
just be to be honest, which we didn't do a
lot yesterday. We just moved the receivers, just put them
in motion like you put the slots in Emotional You
just put the receivers in motion so the DBS can't
get their hands square on them. So there's ways of
getting them open if we need to do that. So
we can manipulate the playbooks that make you feelings better,
(30:35):
or we can manipulate the formations.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Well, let's hope and then maybe they weren't showing that.
Maybe you're right about that. Maybe they did just enough
to get the win. And they're going to show some
of these different things this week and.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
We'll know more.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
I do know one thing for sure, though, Joni Valor
of the W nineteen seventy four Collector did just send
me a text, and I wish I was in lection
today because if I was, I'd go down to Kaspar
for the volleyball watch party. They're gonna have the volleyball
game on down there at noon, so when you get
off here, you just want to go on down there
and watch the volleyball the UK fans.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
I may just do that.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
But the volleyball game.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
You remember the first time I went to a volleyball game,
I called myself being fashionably late, and I was fashionably
like almost missing nice.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
But I may check.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
I may check out its source. The game starts sharp
at twelve, so it'll be on. Yes, are there any
specials coming along with that? Is there any Ni l
h W nineteen seventy four doing anything for it? It
is just inviting you to watch.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
I think Jany's just going to be there with the
other UK fans watching the volleyball team which swept lips
Come yesterday, and this will be a really big early
It'll be a big early season test for them. They're
gonna have a lot of big early season tests.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
But that's okay.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
As they said last week to Molly and Molly when
they were on with us, looking forward to it and
uh listen approp theay Wednesday, I think it was maybe
it's Thursday and they had the press conference looking forward
for the opportunity. So we'll see how they do. But
I think they'll match up really, really well. And APAs
Sarapa is the starting set. I remember last week when
(32:13):
we had Mali Tuozo, Mally Bratswoods on with us, they
weren't sure. Craig announced she would be the starter, and
I think she had thirty three assists in the wind
Saturday over Lipscomb, which is kind of emmigron numbers from
a from a three set win. And also this would
be a big, big chance with a big learning experience
for her today, So anxious see how that.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Goes to how convincing. I know three sets they won straight,
three sets, but we.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Look it up what was, Yeah, they were pretty strong
against the little Lipscom team that's usually pretty decent, not
Nebraska type good or anything. But A cig said, it
was good to get one match in before you have
to play Nebraska. And I think they've played a couple
of matches already, so this will be a I mean,
they had over as a Thursday, they already had sold
(33:03):
over ten thousand seats. And I know a couple of
friends I know from Key West, Florida. They came up
to Nashville for the for the matches. But they called
me yesterday and told me they were a little worried
because everywhere they went in Nashville, all they were doing
is seeing Nebraska fans and no UK fans. I think
a lot of UK fans will probably come in just
(33:23):
for today, but they said there were a lot of
Nebraska fants already in nashe for yesterday.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Well, we had a football game that has come to
support us. Most of our Olympic sports supporters. They support
UH definitely gonna support our revenue sports. So that's why
they were in in Nashville. But we did Larry Vall.
We we did a third set with lists come twenty five,
twenty three, twenty three, twenty five.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
It was that close.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
The third said, first two weren't that close.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
I don't think worthy.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Now, well, the second one was twenty twenty five, but
the twenty three to twenty five seemed like, well, maybe
maybe we tried, so maybe he got created and try
some different things.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Maybe in the third yeah, well, I didn't you get
to see the match. I don't know exactly a bit,
but everybody seemed pretty pleased. That's there, so.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Well, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Hey, if you haven't made you make your way down
to Nashville, well, too late now because the game's gonna
start in twelve minutes.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
You can listen to it.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Yeah, if if you're close enough to Nashville, if you're
on the Bord or somewhere down there, go on ahead
on over to Nashfield support the young ladies. If not,
go to kams BArch. Check out Joni Know. Maybe she'll
have a Yorkie or shitsu witter. If she does pick
it up, bring it to me at the studio. I
don't have any money to pay for it, but I
will take very good care of it and give it
(34:41):
a nice warm home.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
We'll be back after this.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
You'll listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday when the sports Talk
on news Radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop for it to Radio Network on six
thirty w LAP.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vault, here to close out this
edition of Sunday Morning Sports Talk, but really quickly.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
We don't normally do this, but we will.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Let's head on over to the big ass Fans Hotline
and see what Paul has to say. Paul, let's wrap
this thing up. Let's wrap this thing up on a
positive note. Please, pretty pretty please.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
Paul, I mean you and Larry, they would have stopped
at about five rounds.
Speaker 8 (35:34):
Ago, that poor man.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
But I say it's really not of Zach How would
reckon quarterbacks in his career and so many all Americans.
And there was a reason, and it was the way
he let him coached him. And one of the things
(36:01):
he did, and you guys will remember this, he would
put his second quarterback in a preset time of the game,
regardless of the circumstances, so that if he ever had
to go into it uncutule time. It wasn't like he
had all of a sudden landed on the moon. So
(36:23):
somewhere in our bylaws again I'm not knocking the quarterback,
but somewhere in our bylaws we have an amendment in
the university.
Speaker 8 (36:35):
Quarterback.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
I'll watch all these other kids except for LSU because
they have an American quarterback.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
But all the things do what they can do, play
in the heat, and.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
We thank you for the Thank you for the call, Paul.
We have some technical difficulties. There is uh some connection problems.
So but I kind of get your point in really quickly.
Larry Vault, Uh are you? Are you a pose? And
it's like I said, I it does sound like this
show probably dumped on Zach comes out of a whole lot.
But to me as a player, I would come out
with a chip next week and show the whole nation,
(37:16):
big blue nation, especially that man, get off my back,
and I'm gonna throw for three hundred on you just
to let you know. But I I just think football,
and all I want to do at the end of
the day is winning. Is are you against the whole
idea of possibly putting a package in for Cutter or
do you think that's gonna uh cause dissension in the
(37:37):
in the locker room or the quarterback room, or you know,
make put more pressure on Zach or you are you
opposed to giving Cutter a package throughout the game or
at some point in the game just no matter what,
We're gonna give you a package and give Zach a
checks to come off the field for a second watch.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
Well, first are no bad wins too. I'm for doing
whatever you think give you the best chance to win.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
And I think I'm not opposed it.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
I'll letting cut Or have an opportunity just to get wanted,
to get some experience, and then two to also what.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
If it works better or what if it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Zach just see something. And like I say, I think
we're in a different world when you talk about criticizing
a quarterback. I mean, Zach's being pretty well paid right now.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
That kind of goes along with it.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
It's not like you're talking about an eighteen and a
half year old kid that just got out of high
school in May. I mean, he's what twenty five years
old and making more than what most people. So I
mean that's just kind of go along with what's on
that job. And again you're right, he ought to want
to come back and just bust his butt and try
to play better himself and admitted that to the game
(38:42):
that he needed to play better. But admitting it and
doing it or aren't always one and the same. So
it'll be interesting to see. As you're right, there are
no bad wins, so one of those a lot better
than O one won.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
But there's a lot of things to work on.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
But it's a list of language talking about a lot
of teams across the country looked up.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
But now it's to see which teams can fix it
going into week.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Two and Kentucky you'll have to fix some things offensively
to beat O Miss. But the best news for you,
Anthony White, I just got a message. If you come
to Ksbar, your lunch is gonna be taken care of.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Oo Hey, I'm gonna have to take that out, bo Bow,
What do you got for us real quick?
Speaker 9 (39:21):
We forgot to mention last weekend that Hall of Fame
jockey Ron Turcotte passed away, wrote secretary to the nineteen
seventy three Triple Crown. He was eighty four years old,
and that I kind of photograph of him aboard secretaryat
in the Belmont. He's forever going to be remembered for
that also too. We want to pass along our condolences
to everybody down at Old Friends Horse Farm on the
passing of Little Silver Charm. He was the farm's official
(39:44):
mascot down there, So at rest in peace, Little Silver Charm.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
If farewell to Lee Corso, good job, job, well done.
Thanks to a listen, what's.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
That I cried when Lee Corso said goodbye?
Speaker 2 (39:59):
It was tough. Thanks to Alyssa Lange.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Thanks to Jack Pilgrims always, thanks Larry Vaught, Thanks Bob
Robinson keeping us own air on Anthony White and this
has been Stockyards Bank Sunday when the Sports Star on
