Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Barde Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I am
Anthony White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vault in
Studio Clark's Main Street, mark Is Studios in Downtown Lexis Tan, Kentucky,
brisk Rainy Lexis in Kentucky. It hasn't frozen over. Everything

(00:34):
is still fine's little damp and plus we got Vaught
in the building. Jack Pilgrims kicked off basketball season and
there's plenty to talk.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
About and Larry Jack bo everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
And I know this ain't gonna be the main topic,
but I want to give a shout out that I
watched UK volleyball earlier this week on Sunday and well
last week on Sunday, and I thought I jinxed us again.
I tweeted about the game, you know, rooting for them
to come back, rooting for them to come back. They
were getting their heads beat upside down, and I just

(01:08):
turned it off because I didn't want to witness Skinner's
winners not winning. And I woke up the next day,
which means I never even checked back on it, and
I looked at my Twitter feed.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
By god, they actually came back. Did you know that, Larry.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Well, I didn't know that you were trying to jink them.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I did drunk unjinxed them. I tuned out.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
You tuned out. So that was the match against Florida.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
You're talking about Florida.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, Florida played them pretty tough, pretty tough. They're at home,
but they did what they did. They came back and won.
So they very impressive. Beat Mississippi State three to one
Friday night. As John Short says, hopefully they'll beat the
Alabama five o today and we're a week away from
their showdown down to Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Is Texas ranked number one in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Number Twomber Nebraska, Centemboe.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Nebraska, and Texas unless they lost one of them lost
Friday because I I didn't look this weekend, but they're
still one and two in the two unbeaten teams.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
No yesterday, I thought when I look, Texas was still
number two. Yeah, so you're probably right. So I wanted
to get that get the shout out to skinners winners,
because I know most of this show is going to
be about UK basketball with a huge win over Number one,
and I'm curious to see how Jack Pilgrim feels about
the contest in general. Was it more of a scrimmish
or was it was it like h February basketball, where

(02:30):
you know, people were invested, or we're just trying to
figure things out. Then yesterday we had a football game
which we have a quarterback. We scored more than two
touchdowns on our with our offense. We also our office
gave up another defensive touchdown. But it was a pretty
interesting game. And if you listen to the show for weeks,
our coach makes too much money to be losing games, which, okay,

(02:53):
I would buile out of that.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
He's not the only one, Huh. He's not the only
coach around the country making too much money to be
losing games.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
He's losing. Yeah, the only problem with us is that
he's still employed.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Well now, there's still several that are employed I think
that are losing.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Too many games.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, okay, like not winning the game of your one
game of your conference over the past twenty something.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Now doing that, you're right, You're right, So that was
the thing.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Then there's been a couple of weeks. I've asked Bo,
I've asked Larry and Jack in the public. Well, we
just want exciting football. Thirty some points is pretty good football.
That's that half mummy, that's you know, putting some points
with the deep ball. Was there a lot of things happen.
People are still upset. I'm still I don't know what
to think. Neither of this is our coach. If you

(03:40):
listen to the pre postgame show, he doesn't know what
to think. I don't know what to think, but Jack Pilgrim,
I don't know where we're gonna start, but unravel all
this for me. I don't know if you watched the
Florida match on Sunday, And the only reason I bring
that up because of Mississippi State. I didn't watch volleyball match.
I didn't watch and it didn't seem to be much
of a contest. But that Florida match was a contest.
So this week we had that if Skinner's winners came out,

(04:03):
and then we had knockoff Perdue.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
We had our basketball team knock off Perdue.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Our nephew was the MVP, and then we got Halloween
ish football game that Wills fell off for Brad and
those guys so raveled some of it for me, Jack
on your your weekend general however you want to ravel it.

Speaker 6 (04:27):
I don't think, you know. In terms of positive growth
of UK athletics, I think things are moving in.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
The right direction. I think we Kentucky beats.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
The number one team in the country in basketball, Skinners,
winners are doing their thing. The women's basketball program is
an excellent shape, and they were one day closer to
a new era of Kentucky football. And I think that's
just the only best case, in the best case scenario
for where things stand right now. Yeah, I don't think
there's any thing that we could have learned or painting

(05:00):
lipstick on a pig of what the current product is
because after eleven straight losses, a Kroger field against power
competition and you know, a see a Cuke orange and
Rocky Top being played on repeat, there's nothing else that
you need to see or say or suggest that doesn't

(05:23):
you know, end with Mark Stoops not no longer being
the head coach of Kentucky. So I think it's a
matter of when, not if, And I hope the decision makers,
you know, spend their Sunday doing the right thing, and
you know, so start start working toward toward a resolution
and focusing on the next era, because I am all

(05:44):
out on the current era.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Anthony.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Let me remind you, the listeners, and our sponsor and
our Tom Leech, let me remind everybody that those thoughts
so Jack Pilgrims and Jack Pilson thoughts.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
My thoughts proudly the thoughts of one Jack.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
But I doubt that there Jack Pilgrim is the only
person with those thoughts in the bluegrass today.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Oh no, not on the bluegrass. But we represent Tom Leech. Yeah,
and I represent myself. But no, I I do. I
do think that probably is a lowed echoing sentiment, Jack Pilgrim.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
I will tell you.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
When I was pulling into the garage, there was there
were two young ladies mid uh probably about your age,
a little older walking across. You know, we go up
the ramp to get our way at the bottom to
we're on parking level three, which is the lowest. So
I'm going in out you winding through, and he's they're
just bopping across. Now mind you, I guess they have

(06:46):
the right away, like there's no crosswalker or nothing. But
you see a car coming and they have on Tennessee
swea and there's just no care in the world, Like yeah,
and it really it really irked me. It really irritated me.
So uh and I don't think if they had the
Tennessee sweatshirt song that I would have been upset. The
Tennessee shirts is with like you walking around our city

(07:07):
like you own the order and then maybe they do.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
They do, they did. But how was your week? Larry sportswivese? Otherwise?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
My week was okay. I got to u as you said,
we got to watch Jasper Friday night and I enjoyed that.
And I got to watch my grandson's team beat up
on Dennis Johnson's eighth grade team state playoff. Yes youes,
I had a little fun with Dinnis after that was over.
So but yeah, my week was better than a lot
of folks was, I would say. So no complaints at

(07:41):
all for the old guy here, other than it was
brutal watching the football game because and I had so
many questions. I mean, I thought it gets to be
twenty one to seven, I'm think, well it's done, Kentucky,
They're ever going to score. Then it gets back to
twenty eight to twenty one. I think, WHOA, just don't
give up a touchdown before half, in the last minute
and a half, and maybe something will happen. And then

(08:02):
before you know it, Tennessee scores in the first half
in a minute and a half, goes two plays twenty
five seconds, scores to start the second half, six plays,
minute twenty to score again, and all of a sudden,
what was twenty eight to twenty one? Game's over? I mean,
it was just very, very disappointing the way that Kentucky

(08:23):
finished the end of the first half, the start of
the second half. And then I'm also sitting there thinking, man,
how did Cutter Bowlies not start game one? How's it
taken so long to get DJ Miller and Cam Miller
on the field? And where in the hell did J J.
Hester suddenly come from that we had even seen him,
And all of a sudden he's out there looking like
a guy that can really so, I mean, so many

(08:45):
of the things that just perplexed you and you just
wonder about. But and then again, Cutter just looked terrific
for most of the game. I had to one pick six.
But I think you may have a different perspective Anthony,
But I credit that more to a really good play
to see defense that I did a mistake, but Cutter,
because it looked like he was making the right throw.
He just either didn't see that gap or that guy

(09:06):
has made a really nice play to block it and
then athletic play to intercept it and take it the
rest of the way. But again, I don't it's a
difficult situation. Over the fifty some years of doing this,
I've seen him when it runs out on coaches. There's
guys you like and they've been good to you, why
they've been working here. But you get to the point

(09:27):
you just know, you know the fan base is gone.
And I think that's what happened last night, kind of
put the final nail on the coffin.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
I think, yeah, and about to cut her interception. I
think that was exceptional defensive play. I'm with you on that.
I think that was just something that a guy makes
a good play, hits the ball up in the air,
also catches it, and you know at that point there's
really nobody to catch him. I don't know Cutter runs
a four to four or anything, but there's nobody to
catch you. He has open field in front of him,
So I give you that. But Jack Pilgrim, let's get

(09:56):
a little football in because we're gonna have Greg Williams
on at eleven, so listen, and we only have you
for half the show, So let's get little football in.
And if anyone wants to call it in to talk
about a week and revisit it, because I want to
get some your take on basketball. But everything Larry Vaught
said it was disappointing. And you know the fans, Cutter

(10:16):
played a good game. Did you expect anything different? Everybody
expected Tennessee to come up, come in here and light
up the scoreboards.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
I got don't.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
I think we look better offensively than we expected, and
maybe a little bit bad worse a defense, and we
have a couple of injuries. But everybody's disappointed, like we
expected us to look better against Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
My public forty one to six. So no, I did not.
I guess I underestimated Tennessee's scoring.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Ability, but I also underrated how bad their their defenses
as well. But so yeah, no I expected it and
a lot to a little result where Josh Hipel picked
the you know name the score, I you know whatever
that was going to end up being you know, we
kind of got to that point at the very end.
I mean they were in scoring position there in the
final seconds and they're in victory formation on your home turf,

(11:16):
which is just the absolute worst feeling in the world.
But yeah, it could it could have been even worse.
But no, I am absolutely thrilled with Cutter Bowley and
you know, finding the Miller's on.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
The outside and J. J. Hester was terrific.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
I think if you are looking for silver linings here
and in ways to you know, be optimistic about the future,
is that whoever the next guy is is it has
so much talent to work with. And you know, if
you're a creative mind like a Will Stein in Oregon
or you know, John sumral is obviously the golden goose

(11:50):
for Kentucky fans. You know, you look at this situation
and say, man, like, there's a lot to work with
that I you know, I'm obviously gonna have my room
to grow.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
And and you.

Speaker 6 (12:00):
Know, there's so much talk about the Auburn job and
how John Sumrall is kind of a shoe in for
that one. You know, they try firing guys two years
into their you know, you go seven and five there,
and they and they can here. So I don't know
how you couldn't look at clearly the job safety that
comes with being a Kentucky football good grief, but the
safety that comes with it, but also just the safety

(12:22):
net of a Cutter Bowley, having your guy already handpicked
and being able to kind of build resources around him
and use money the right way instead of seven figures
on a backup quarterback that plays a game and a
half before being out for the rest of the year,
like you can utilize the funds and the resources and
the talent already within your culture and pretty darn exciting.

(12:46):
I think last night was it was a testament to that.
Thirty four points finally broke that three touchdown streak that
has been going on since Truman administration. So yeah, I'm very,
very very impressed with with Cutter Bowley, and that is
priority number one for the next guy, Keith him and Lexington.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
I think Jack just took a shot the Mummy teams, No,
because that was that was after Truman, right.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Jack Young. I can still smell Simla on his breadth.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Yeah, I will say this before we go to break
Larry vaugh He did all that talking and not once
did he mention Jason Patterson.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
And I don't think that's fair.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Jason, you're talking about the roster coach will be acquiring
or retain, retain.

Speaker 6 (13:33):
Anthony include him. Yep, Jason, Jason Patterson belongs to that conversation.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
He's a dude.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
But yeah, go down the list. There's I mean, you
can say Willie Rodriguez. I mean, there's there's a lot,
a lot, a lot of talent to work with that again, whoever,
the next guy is hopefully sooner rather than later, Get
comes in and says, you know, goes to the war
chats and goes, I want you, I want you, I
want you, I want you because there's there's plenty plenty.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
To be excited about for the future.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Mitch and Mark, I don't know what they're talking about
the next guy. Let's continue the show when we come back.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Winning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty w This.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings sports Talk presented by the
lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Stockyards Bank Sunday One is sports Talk on Anthony White
along with Larry Vault, Jack Piller, producer, Bo Robinson. Stockyards
Bank has been your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and
for so head on over to syb dot com for
Oh your Banking Financial money needs.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Boy, we didn't give you a chance to speak.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
You usually speak later in the show, but because I
don't think we're going to be on football very long
unless angry people want to call eight five nine to
eight zero two two eight seven eight five nine two
eight zero cats even you happy people can call because
I would like to know why you're happy, and you
can make me happy because I always try to fight
a silver lining with our football team, because I know
all the news about our football team ain't always being

(15:05):
good news, but both what kind of news?

Speaker 3 (15:08):
How do you feel about our football team? I have
no comment. You still you still haven't found the words.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
Huh, which is a comment in itself.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
The Blues Brothers no comment. They've checked out. They're done.

Speaker 7 (15:23):
They are so focused on basketball it's not even funny
as far as me and Kentucky football. I told Larry
this morning when he first got into the building, I'm done,
and I hate to be that way. It bothers me.
Jack and I have had this discussion over the last
couple of weeks. I can't spend my Saturday nights watching
this anymore, especially last night, and just seeing all the

(15:44):
Tennessee fans gloating and bragging about how good they are. Okay,
you were the better team last night, and it's painful
to watch this, it really is. I'm happy for Cutter Bowlie.
I have a little hope for Cutter. I'm glad he
did great last night, but as an I can't set
through much more of this.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Hey, guess do you all remember when Garrett Johnson was
a receiver here juice? Yeah, he just posted on x
h oh, I just want to just want to read
this to you and get well. I guess he posts
a lot of I have solom and rephrase that. But
he said, what do you all do to regulate your
emotions during a Kentucky football game? I need help?

Speaker 3 (16:21):
He still invested? Huh.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Well, I guess he's trying to stay invested. But it
just shows even how frustrated former players are.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
I'll ask you this, Larry, and I know there's other things.
Did the fact that our basketball team knocked off the
number one team in the country, although it be exhibition
and then the very next day, will you come and
go down by three point or three touchdowns in the
first half, first.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Quarter, quarter?

Speaker 5 (16:47):
Yeah? Is that?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Does that? Does that make you worse?

Speaker 4 (16:53):
Absolutely, don't you think, Jack? I mean, that's all the
people I know that just finished it for him.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:01):
I think the basketball thing, you know, hit hit a
peak with with with the fan base in general about like, oh,
so this is what it feels to have feels like
to have fun again, and you know, rooting for our
beloved Wildcats like this, this is how we're supposed to
feel watching our teams. And while on that high, you

(17:22):
get just you know, just whatever that you you want
to call last night, I feel like it has an opposite,
you know effect. It's an equal level of happiness creates
an equal.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
Level of anger.

Speaker 6 (17:36):
And that was Yeah, everybody I've talked to, buddies, you know,
texted during the game, private messages, people on Twitter, social media, Facebook,
go down the list and message boards especially, it is
a as much.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
Of a consensus as i've I've.

Speaker 6 (17:52):
I can remember in a very very long time. So yeah,
it's it's it's wild. It's times are very very wild
right now. And I think basketball definitely adds to that.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
And I will say I'm not certain that Mark Stoops
is helping hisself. And I know he's made some comments.
You know, he's he's from Midwest, he's from Youngstown. It's
blue collar, factory city, small smoke, you know, funk. So
there's some things that he may have said in the past,
and it made some things and I think it's snowballing.

(18:23):
But I also think that some of the things he says, now,
no matter what you say, it's gonna be it's gonna
be the wrong thing. Whether he tries to protect hisself
and his team or whether he takes or blame someone else,
it'll be bad. We will discuss some of those comments
when we come back. You'll listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday
Morning Sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
W l A P.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
along with Jack Pilgrim, Larry Vaut, producer Paul Robinson. What
about that music, Well, it sounds like it would sound
good with a country boy and country.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Boy, several country boys this iver sunding him on in sports.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
So I just brought to you by country Boy brewing.
That is why it would be good to be sitting
with a twelve pack, six pack, twelve pack. I don't
know if I've ever seen a twenty four pack of
country Boy or a thirty pack. I think you only
get six and twelves DH let me know if you
guys have anything bigger than a twelve pack. But Larry Vault,
so before we went to break and the phone lines

(19:39):
are getting lit up, but I did want to get
you and Jack's take on some of the comments being made,
and it is is there anything he can save to
save his hide or But I do know as media,
and I guess I am media, but I really don't
consider myself media because I'm more on the side of

(20:01):
the players and the team. But my paycheck says media
the guys. And I've always said that when the rest
make a bad call, I'd be like, I feel like
the rest should have a microphone in front their face.
They should be able to come and stand up for
themselves because they take they can get a paycheck. You
can cast somebody their job for a bad call by
the same token, everybody expects the coach to show up

(20:24):
to the podium.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
It's the same thing happened with Calip Perry.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Like, even if you got to sucky product, you still
got to come to the podium and answer and be professional.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Which is tough to do.

Speaker 8 (20:33):
Now.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
The great ones probably can do it. Or you could
just build Belichick. You can marshine your Lynch way through it,
like you can.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
There's ways.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
But some of the things that's been said lately, I
think there's been a sception taken too.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yeah, like, how.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
Can you say this, Anthony? When when Kentucky went for
the two point conversion? Did that surprise you.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
A little bit?

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Man?

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah, a little bit, so it didn't matter.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
Well that's you.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
But still when Mark Stoups was asked, go white, did
you go for two after that one touchdown? Here's the answers.
That was stupid too, quite honestly, But what's the that's
what the analytics said. When I had time to reevaluate afterwards,
I said, Yeah, that's a stupid call, That's what I said.
How does that make you gotta feel better about your coach?
Stupid call? Just did it because he thought that's what

(21:21):
no real reason.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
I think it's been obvious though for the past couple
of years, and maybe the whole tenure, I think it's
been obvious that he's never really had a chance to
dig his feet into some of those things, like Bill Belichick,
probably Nick Saban. There are certain people who know, under
this situation, this is what you're supposed to do. Like
there are certain people who uh that analytics tells you

(21:44):
all that, and they had maybe they have someone in
their staff who tells a coach, we need to do this,
and the coach doesn't guess. But I think his whole
tenure here his ability to make endgame quick decisions that
deal with analytics or flow of the game and those
type of thing. I don't I think he just draws
a draws a number out of the hat. I'm not

(22:05):
certain that he has a philosophy behind it. I don't
know if you feel any any other way, Jack, other
than that that you know he kind of flies by
the seat of his pants and in game decisions. But
it's been consistent, and I repeat to everybody, which we
don't have to respect the fact. But this is his
first head coaching job, so he's been learning on the job.
Some He's made a lot of mistakes. He's brought us

(22:27):
through some tough times. You know, we beat Florida so
many times under him, but he's always I think he's
always been questionable as far as in game decisions.

Speaker 6 (22:38):
Yeah, well, you know, maybe maybe the next thirteen years
will be better. The all time is the longest tenured
coach in the SEC, So maybe the next thirteen years
he'll he'll he'll figure it out now. And I think
the most important quote that he gave last night was
I underand you know, one first question was, what do
you tell fans after yet another eleven straight uh a

(23:02):
power for conference UH competition at Kroger Field, for eleven
straight losses? What do you tell fans that kind of
make them feel that they'll there's light at the end
of the long dark tunnel. I don't know whatever, uh,
he said, I understand. I mean, it's the results business,
and the results have not been there for me. I
can't get caught up and worried about all that. I mean,

(23:24):
you know, results based business results have not been there.
I mean, I think that's one plus one equals too
if you ask me.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
So.

Speaker 6 (23:31):
Yeah, hopefully that's the only quote that matters at the
end of the day. Where the bottom line is is
is not matching up with with the with the current results.
But yeah, I was I was equally frustrated by that.
Uh that that comment and how others have adapted so
well and and you know, just have mastered the art
of analytics and know exactly when to go, exactly when

(23:52):
to uh you know, pun, exactly when the kick exactly
all of those things they've mastered. And you know, we
have our coach talking about how the endalytics are stupid
and how that particular decision made no sense.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah, since you threw it out there before we get
to the phone lines again, and hold on, we get
into the phone lines, but before we get to the
phone lines again, and you since you threw it out there,
how long does the next coach get Because we seem
to be in that Auburn bandwagon. We seen to be
in that Auburn wagon now where our breaches are pretty big. So, uh,
how long if you bring it wherever you bring it,

(24:25):
how long do they get It's typically I think three
to four years to show improvement. But how long does
the next guy get? And the covers won't be there
if we can retain all of our people.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Jack.

Speaker 6 (24:38):
I mean, I don't even know how you put a
number on how long they get. I mean, it depends
on how year one goes, It depends on how you know,
they build from one to two.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Like I think it's all relative.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
And but again, I think that's what makes this job
so intriguing is that it's it's not an automatic if
you like, the thing that I think favors Kentucky for
at John summer All for, you know, the hottest name
in coaching that you know, Mitch Barhart could be trying
to look at is the fact that you are an
SEC program with SEC resources and SEC exposure and a

(25:16):
footprint and recruiting and all of the things that come
with being an SEC program and probably the only one
at this stage without legitimate national championship expectations at least
like you know, competing in the playoff every year, because
I mean, look, I mean we have Vanderbilt right now
is a shoe in for the playoff right now, So
like even the bottom of the barrel SEC competition is

(25:41):
you know, fighting in the playoff right now and believing
that they could be the next to you know, make
make a run in the playoffs. So you know, I'd
like to get there at some point, but we're kind
of I mean, I think our expectations are like exactly
where they need to be. You've reset the standard. We
don't need to just live and die by a bowl.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
Game every single year. Who cares about that?

Speaker 6 (26:00):
I mean in the inn Il era, you.

Speaker 5 (26:02):
Can pay for bowl games.

Speaker 6 (26:03):
Now now it's about the gap between six wins and
making a ball game and going nine and three and
you know, being a contender for the college football playoff
like in Indiana.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Like a Vanderbilt.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
The schools that you said forever that well, our resources
are just too bad. We don't have you know, the
in state recruits in Kentucky that you'll will never be
able to compete for that Those excuses are lame.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Those are so lame.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
And other schools are now proving that you can, you
can make it work if you have the right leadership.
So hopefully that's kind of the blueprint we're seeing the
other the outside landscape of college football for our own
personal journeys as we try to, you know, you know,
recreate the magic that the Indiana's and the Vanderbilts of

(26:51):
the world are having right now. So yeah, yeah, the
future could be very very bright. If you look at
the cupboard that is very much not there to the
way it was when Joker Phillips was wrapping up his
time in licensing.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
I wish he would have left in twenty twenty two.
I wish everybody would have been happy. I wish he
would have left, but our fan base would have been
pissed off because they would have felt like he walked
out on us. But he should have left in twenty
twenty two and arran Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught and
twenty twenty one, we would have been knocking on the
playoff door if there was the playoffs. So this whole
idea that nonsense. We're a twelve game or twelve teams

(27:26):
that well, if we ever get to the year expanding
the playoffs, it was for most time, it's always been fourteens.
So now that we've wanted to a whole playoff series,
now that all these teams that are knocking on the door,
we would have been knocking on the door as well.
So that narrative is kind.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Of just remember Tennessee, I mean, Vanderbilt in Indiana won
two games apiece in twenty twenty one Kentucky one to ten.
Now here we are four years later.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Okay, we're gonna we can spend this thing, however, but
let us listen. I'm just saying, I mean, I can
see the fan base. I can see that. I mean,
nobody sustained success like Nick does. Nick Saban has you
name it? Uh, Michigan State, Uli su you named it?
Nick's gonna sustain success somewhere. Let's get to the phone
lines and see what Jake has to say. Good morning, Jake,

(28:21):
what do you got for us?

Speaker 10 (28:24):
Morning? Anthony and uh and guys Horry are doing it's
it's an It was a it was an interesting weekend
that I had an interesting weekend.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
It was a it was a.

Speaker 10 (28:35):
Kentucky basketball and and the Mayfield Cardinals beat up on
Fort Campbell and then then we had then we had uh,
then we had Saturday and that happened. So that that
was my weekend.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Yeah, it's been up and down.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
You could be happy at one moment, then the next
moment you you got your face buried in your in your.

Speaker 11 (28:55):
Hands and and I'm I'm feeling very good. I'm feeling feeling.
I felt bad but about missing part of the game yesterday,
but after I turned into k s R after the
after the after the game, I'm glad I missed it.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
Yeah, you didn't miss much. But Cutter Bowley, uh, Cutter
Bowley coming out of shell and Jason Patterson getting an
opportunity to DJ d J Miller DJ Miller, Yeah, I
don't know where he's been at n I L. I
think we threw n I L out of the window,
like I told Mark, she used to do a couple
of weeks ago. So I think he just threw n
I L. Just play the players who can play.

Speaker 10 (29:34):
Due didn't look like Number one. Purdue didn't look like No.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Number one? Though?

Speaker 10 (29:38):
Did the anthony that that was? That was more like
our our exhibition game last year. They looked like they
were dominating them.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
And that's where we're going to get to in the
next segment, Jake, because I want to ask Jack the
same thing. Did Purdue not look like number one?

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Ers?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Are we that good? Maybe Fool's gold, It may be real, goat,
I don't know. I had the same question, Jake. We
look pretty good.

Speaker 10 (30:02):
Eight go ahead, thirty eight and one thirty eight and
one that looks like what we're gonna have if if
we play that good, it gives number.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
One thirty eight and one.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Why would you do it? Why not just get the whole?
Why not just get the whole forty or at least
thirty nine in one.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Let's make it to the day.

Speaker 10 (30:24):
Well, I don't want to be over confident. You know,
it's early.

Speaker 6 (30:28):
Yeah, I love our fan basecurites acknowledge that.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
I love that our fan base is.

Speaker 6 (30:37):
I don't want to be overconfident as we predict a
one last season.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
That that is the beauty of BBN right there. I
love that call.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Yeah, but the trouble with that, Jack, is that would
mean another Final four loss. With if you go thirty eighty.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
One, Yeah, it's more focusing on the one lost part.
We got to at least call it thirty nine in one. Yeah,
we're going to predict one loss and make it the
you know, we can lose to Valpo to start the
year or something. Let's just let's run the table everything
from from that point forward and create our own little
undefeated journey. So as long as the loss happens, you know,

(31:12):
before before the postseason, I'm good with all of all
of the above. But yeah, I'm down for a one
lost season. Is that color predicted?

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Thank you for the call, Jake.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
When we come back, we'll talk about this seventy eight
to sixty five win over number one perdueing the exhibition
game here in lex to Kentucky. We'll be back after
this year. Listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk

John Short has to say. Good morning, John Short. What
do you got for us?

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Gy?

Speaker 8 (32:02):
Y'all gray Americans? It was a good game Friday, not
a good game. Yes see, we'll bull back and we'll
be ofverned by fifteen begins fifteen Biggins.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Well, we do have an offense now, so that that
is a possibility. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna get
mad at you.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
This time.

Speaker 8 (32:20):
OK, and we haven't talked about this. Well, we wanted
volleyball Friday night. We'll beat let's see me say three
games to one.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Larry Larry val brought that up and we had a
tough match on a Sunday against Florida. But Larry Vaught
did state that we beat Missippi State, we're back.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Rolling and gonna beat Alabama five O today.

Speaker 8 (32:39):
Yeah, we yeah, we are. Is that game televised today?

Speaker 4 (32:42):
I can't think.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
It's listed anywhere. It doesn't look like it is.

Speaker 9 (32:47):
Now.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
I think we have a hard game televis today. I
see network, don't.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
We Soccer is yep, that SEC network five PM.

Speaker 8 (33:01):
Are you ready? When when that when when that game?

Speaker 5 (33:03):
Huh?

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Women's is on SEC, men is on Plus. I'm an
ESPN plus. But we are here in Lexington where West
Virginia with the men and the women were on the road.

Speaker 8 (33:16):
Yeah, when when that game at thirty?

Speaker 9 (33:17):
Biggins thirty?

Speaker 4 (33:20):
They don't score thirty the whole season in soccer.

Speaker 8 (33:22):
John Hoky Donkey and I know how about thirty one
team from We're thirty forty five and two? Why say
count the Hollows game?

Speaker 4 (33:33):
See, yeah, they just don't do that.

Speaker 8 (33:36):
John they need to because when we won, we'd be
for due. We want to know in the season they
game to me all the count We want to know
if we.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Would have lost it, what it should have counted. Yep, thanks,
thank you for the call, John. Sure we appreciate that.
Uh So the stats don't count either, right right for
the Sea.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Let's stay with the phone lines. Let's see what Larry
has to say. Good morning, Larry. What do you got
for us?

Speaker 9 (34:07):
Hal Anthony? Can you hear me?

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 9 (34:12):
Uh, you know I've seen this so many times those
years playing Tennessee. Is I mean, I'm not surprised that,
you know, when you get beyond you know, I've been
been a while inside of you get mad at it.
You know, we lose like that. But now it's just like,
all right, let's see what we do now. You know,
when our offense place good, our defense place bad. Defense
place good, offense place bad. But I tell you what,

(34:34):
I hear so much about Brad White's defense, and you
look back over the years, He's never been good at
at the past game. I mean, it seems like everybody
lights us up. I mean, Tennessee, you know, even when
they've had bad teams. They come here and beat us.
I was the first several years ago, and I've seen
so many of them, losses like block of Field goes,
just crazy stuff. But that's one team. I don't know
what it is about Tennessee even more than not good.

(34:57):
We see now we can't beat these guys, and we'll
be once twice maybe thirty years. But uh but I
don't know who will get for coach. We don't want
to go to North Carolina route for no means. Look
we're doing but you know, I said just I said
this when they first added all these teams to the league.
I said, this league is built the fire coaches and

(35:19):
even your good program for you know, they're losing coaches
same way. I mean, O, Kentucky, you know we haven't.
You know when when the big dog left, I sitting
there thinking, you know, he sees something, which I've seen too.
I said, I see it coming. You know everybody sees
it coming. That he got out of town for everything
little part. And you know, I thank god we've got

(35:40):
a good basketball coach now, because if cold been here.
I was a cow fan one time too, but you
know when he was here, I was to the point thinking,
I'm just sick of the way he runs his program.
The way he it's all about him and the players
who knows, and it's never about to the people that
spends the money and goes to the watching these games.
So I'm glad he's out of town. You know, I

(36:00):
thank Mark Stoops for what he's done, Tucky. You know,
he did bring us to ten game wins. You know,
you got to thank the guy for that. But sometimes
your time is over and and you just say, well,
you know, I've been here too long, and you the
same way to cow he was here too long. You
should have left earlier. But I don't know who's gonna
be our next coach. I just hope we get some

(36:21):
add that that actually knows how to you know, you
bring athletes in and talk about the big blue wall,
you know, but way way Mark Stop's offense was set
up last few years. Run the ball, which is fine,
nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Thank thanks for the call, Larry. We would throw that around.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
I will say before we go to break, Larry Vaught,
I will say, before we go to break, a lot
of people are saying this, you got the you got
the Florida's the Tennessee's, maybe Alabama, Georgia's, maybe LSU's of
the world where you come in that maybe a destination
location the rest of us in I don't think our
destinate national locations.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
In hindsight.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
More so hindsight, I do feel as if Mark Stoops
would have came in, got the program, turned around ten
win season, a seven win ten win season, and said,
you know what, it's time for me to move on
because I've turned the program around here, I think our
fan base would have been upset. I asked people quite frequently,

(37:25):
when has Kentucky in my history known the coach to
leave due to success and.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
It doesn't really happen.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
But if you try to leave when you're at the
top of your game, I think our fan base feels
slighted by that. So that's an interesting concept. We try
to get back on this basketball so I can get
Jack Pilger's opinion, we'll be back after this year. Listening
