Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats six point thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
All right, welcome back to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk.
We are still efforting twenty Beckham right now. I don't
know if I've given Bo bad information. I'll want number
to get hold of him att or not. So hopefully
if twenty's listening, he can go ahead and call or
send me a text or something and see if I've
got something wrong here with the number that I've got

(00:27):
for him, which is always a possibility for the old
guy right here, Anthony. So hopefully we'll be able to
get in touch with twenty pretty soon here and get
him on with us. Okay, Anthony's still there. Okay, Well
let me just let's see. Maybe Bo's trying to effort

(00:50):
twenty right now.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
So I'm trying to effort everything right now.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
So we've had a look at ex chair Stockyards Bank
Sunday Morning Sports Talk. So sometimes things just have happened
to don't go the way that we have on planned.
And we'll see what happens here. And let's double check
with Anthony. Are you Anthony, are you still with this man?
It's funny I see him talking on the screen.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Anthony saits a wrong button somewhere had he Oh jeez,
well what else we got this morning, Larry? How was
your fourth?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
My fourth was really good. I can't figure out what
I've done wrong with twenty. I don't know if I've
given you the wrong number, or I've got his number
listed wrong or what. But hopefully if he's listening or
paying attention, that he will give us a call right
now or something where we can get in touch with him.
So uh, but again, really interesting conversation we had earlier.

(01:45):
We cared Witherington, the UK football commit. Really enjoyed that,
really enjoyed listening to j D. Shelburne and his grand
O Opry debut. If you'd like to join us on
the Big As Fans Hotline, give us a call at
eight five nine two two two eight seven in the
middle of bo doing fifteen different things. He'll go ahead
and check that check at and get you on with me,

(02:05):
or efforting to get Anthony back on with us, or
efforting to get twenty Beckham on with us. So if
anybody knows twenty, give him a call and tell him
we're trying to get him. Maybe I've got the wrong
phone number listed or something here, so just give us
a call and let us know. But Bo, everything was
really good. Do you have a good Fourth of July?

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Sorry, Anthony is back online with us. Okay, excuse me.
So were you asking if I had a good fourth?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (02:34):
I was.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Oh, yeah, we had had a great fourth. And let
me give a shout out to the Lexington Philharmonic. They
did a patriotic concert over at Transy on Thursday night
and it is awesome for a free Fourth of July
event and just to do something different. And they have
the whole Philharmonic up on the front of the old

(02:57):
Morrison building. It's pretty cool. And I thought they did
a fantastic job and kind of ended the night with
Star Wars and I thought that was fun too, So
I kind of started off my celebration with the phil
Harmonic and really enjoyed what they put together in that presentation.
And I'm a fan and I'll be back next year.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I had no idea there was anything even like that.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah, it's free. They do it every Fourth of July,
so always kind of keep tabs on it, put it
on your calendar and fantastic music. I just and I
like all that patriotic, big band kind of music. I
think it's fun.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Okay, Now I just heard from twenty. He is waiting
at that number that I gave you both, So dust
off the old phone in there and I can rub
a little magic on it and see if that won't
make it work a little bit bit. All right, we'll
try twenty again. Okay, Anthony, did you see fireworks on
the fourth?

Speaker 5 (03:50):
They had a family had a family out, and we
always had a family gather on the fourth.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
Yeah, we saw fireworks. Actually someone got injured by fireworks.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Vault.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Oh that's that's never a good thing.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Now.

Speaker 6 (04:04):
That was not a good thing. I know, is my
little cousin. The two fell over. Fireworks going over, hitting houses,
going into the crowd, and my cousin tried to pick
it up while all I see is fire coming out
of it. He tried to pick it up, and apparently
it hit his wife and all I knows. Next, I

(04:26):
thought we were going back to fireworks, but I also
thought we should be concerned. But I didn't hear anybody
screaming or anything. Fifteen thirty seconds later, my cousin's being
hauled off down the sidewalk with his wife, said we
got to go, and I thought she was upset with him.
I think she was just upset with him, but apparently
I think they did go get medical treatment. Not nothing,
he's nothing big at all. Maybe a little burn or something,

(04:49):
but that kind of ended.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
He had fireworks wow at all. So well, well, I
tell you, let's go ahead and take a little bit
earlier break than normal here and and see if we
can get hooked up with twenty when we come back
here on Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talks. So stay
right there, Anthony, don't move. This is the home of
the Wildcats. Six thirty WLAP. Welcome back to Stockyards Bank

(05:13):
Sunday Morning Sports Talk. This hour is brought to you
by Country Boy Brewing, and really glad that we got
the phone system kind of rebooted and reworked where we
now do have twenty Beckham with us. Sorry for a
little bit of delay there, twenty. We'll we're having issues
with Anthony also, so this could be me and you
here for a little bit. But got several things to
talk to you about with the TBT coming up and everything.

(05:35):
But first Champions Weekend coming up five days now, tell
folks a little bit about that in different ways they
can be involved with things with Champions Weekend because you've
got a great set of things put together.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
I mean, thank you, thank you all for having me.
I'm not sure what was going over the fall lines.
I was seeing right here waiting to be called, but
nowhere is. We're on here now, So thank you all
for having me, and thanks for everybody just tuned in
and listening. But yeah, we are coming up on our
second annual Champions Weekend weekend, so we got to kind
of events starting on Friday, July eleventh, and the weekend

(06:10):
runs all the way through Sunday, July thirteenth. Friday, from
one to three at the elw Hotel, we have our
service project, so we're going to be giving away six
or seven hundred backpacks. But we have a great partner, Admires,
and they donate a ton of food that we're able
to stuff these backpacks with and package them up and

(06:31):
then give them away to different charities in the Lectington area.
And so that's when we went and three at the Old Hotel.
If you're interesting in being a part of that event,
you could just show up or you can send us
an email at Better Lifestyle Events at gmail dot com
and then send us your name and you could get
part of it. Then that night we followed that up

(06:53):
with a networking social at the ELW Hotel from five
thirty to eight. Again it's at the with Hotel. You
can register at better liefees diavents dot com or you
could just show up and we'll have a name take
for you once you sign in. And then Saturday morning,
which I'm really excited about, if we have a free
basketball camp. We've practically sold out the camp, but we

(07:16):
opened it back up. So if you have a child
between the ages six to twelve, go on better liife
diavents dot com and get your child registered girls and boys,
so they'd be at the Alumni Center from a thirty
to twelve, and then that night we have the charity game.
There's going to feature a ton of you know, local guys.

(07:36):
There's going to be some some TVT players planning that.
That's a Take Street High School from six to a PM.
Doors open at five. And if we followed it up
on Sunday with our second age of golf Crammer, that's
gonna get the University Club.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Tell us folks a little bit about some of the
players are going to be playing in the game. I
think I saw that what Dominiqe. Halkers is going to
test those shoes off and get out there and put
up a few shots with you guys and everything.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
Yeah, so you know this, this whole weekend by charity
weekend is about giving back to Best Servant's about bringing
the community together, but also to you know, for my
brothers who have played the UK been a part of
the program at some point. It's just a weekend for
us to get together, you know, celebrate each other, just
have a little bit of fun and just get the
tv T guys ready to going into a very serious

(08:24):
week of but they're what they're gonna be going into. So, uh,
we have Dominice Hawkins coming back, Julius May's, Marcus te
Archie Goodwin, DeAndre Liggins, uh Anthony Amanor then we get
a local guy, jas mar Fergus and Bryce and Harris.
I mean, it's gonna be it's gonna be a fun

(08:45):
event and if you're around the Central Protective community, it's
gonna be a game that you don't want to miss.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Now, you your roster you've put together for this year's team,
certainly looks really really good. Again, just a couple of
things for me. Don't let Anthony a ski here.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
One.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
It seems to me it would be a pretty big
advantage to have Ansley Almanar on that team. He's coming
right off the college season ready to go again. Am
I reading too much into that? Or is that a
big deal having a guy that's just coming right off
of college season, Swani, that was a.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Huge pickup of us. You know, when we lost last
year in the final four in Philadelphia. One of the
things that I wanted to do with the roster this
year was getting a little bit younger and also to
add a little bit more shooting in toughness, not that
we wasn't tough last year, but you know, just defensively,
just getting a little bit more tougher and stronger. And
I think we were able to do that with the

(09:38):
guys we've added this year, and so having Anson Almanor
and I think he shot our most forty high forties
fifty to sixty three last year, and plus him being
the first coach Pope player to transition over to playing
for Lot Familiar was also a huge gig as well.
So very excited about the roster, the guys would be
here within a week. I did have him here, and

(10:01):
everybody on rosterick excited. You know, we got a little
bit of takes my mouth from not getting done last year.
So like I said, we don't take this thing serious,
and we're gonna prepare and we're gonna put the best
players on the floor and looking to try to win
the championship this year.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Anthony were talking earlier about we were trying to figure
out exactly you certainly added toughness with with the DeAndre Liggins,
but trying to figure out is his age now thirty seven?
Did we get that right?

Speaker 6 (10:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (10:30):
Deandres thirty seven. But when you see DeAndre looks like
he's twenty five.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Oh okay, yeah.

Speaker 7 (10:36):
The DeAndre is one of those guys. I mean, he
works his butt off. He looked like he did when
we were teammates, and he's still actively playing. He's in shape.
He DeAndre got what you can't teach, and that's just
the wheel and that dog to play defense and do
all the little things on the court that don't show
up in the box the box sheet and so me
and I'm excited to have him. He's hungry to get

(10:56):
back to play in front of you know, our you know,
our fan basing community again and I'm excited to have him.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
And I'm also pretty excited to see bringing Archie good
One back. He was always one of guy I really
really liked a lot and liked a lot about his game.
And I know he's played in the TVT before, but
not with you Gas. I'm glad you found a way
to get him on your team this year.

Speaker 7 (11:17):
Yeah, Archie was pretty interesting. You know, when we saw Archie,
he was playing on a different team last year in Philadelphia,
and you know, he was one of the probably top
five TVT players last year, so you know, we could
I try to connect with them, able to connect. So
he played enough planning on a different team than when
I saw him in Philadelphia. It was kind of a
we had a kind of a mutual understanding that we

(11:39):
would least give ourself the opportunity to have a conversation
before he committed anywhere this year. So we got on
the phone in and he was all about it. You know,
he wanted to come back to Lexington. I don't think
he's being back since he's left, and I'm excited to
have him he's he's excited to get here to Lexington
and play in front of our fans again.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Twenty. I'm sorry, Larry. I wanted to ask twenty what
have you learned from last year doing this for the
first time, and the response to now, what what have
you learned and what advantages do you feel like you
have going into the second summer of participating in the
TV team.

Speaker 7 (12:15):
I mean, I think every little part of this is
a learning opportunity. I think last year, you know, we
were so just eager and excited to do it and
to have the run that we that we had last year,
it was exciting. But now after, you know, after the
run was over, you know, you had this opportunity to
sit back myself have to just talk about what we
could do better as far as you know, just organizing

(12:37):
planning events because we want to make sure that these
guys have the best experience ever. And so I want
to also give a shout out to you know, Brittany,
who I know you all talked to a lot. You know,
she does a lot of stuff behind the scenes that
it probably goes unnoticed that she's doing it. From a
experience standpoint, you know, we want to make sure that
these guys have the best experience, but also to uh

(13:00):
very well prepared to go into play. So I think,
like you said, it was a huge learning experience. It's
kind of understanding how the TVT works, and you know
what type of team you need, and you need a
team that of course, you know, it's just like the
NCAA terment one game you lose, you're out. So you
got to have a group of guys that all get along,
they all want to play together, they all want to

(13:21):
shirt a ball, and just everybody understands how big this
is and how important putting that. You know, it's not
the Kentuck You're putting that lot familiar slash Kentucky uniform on.
And I think it's an in credible opportunity for us
to do this again. And I'm just looking forward to
get the game started.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Now twenty I understand, I mean the Harrison Twins, Willa
College Stein. You've also had a drawn lamb this year.
But you've got to tell me a little bit more
about this, about this YouTube guy Jesser, who I had
never even heard of yet. My grandson, my grandson think
that's the greatest thing you have ever done, adding him
to the team. So tell me a little bit about

(13:59):
what they know that I don't know, or that you
found out.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
Man, that's what I'm starting to I'm starting to get
that a lot. Man getting a ton of texts and
messages about how awesome it is to add him.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Man, it was awesome.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
You know, Sam alone and Willie try Stein connected with
him in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
I think Willie was appropriate. You say, you can't hear me, Yeah, yeah,
go ahead to Okay, I'm sorry.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
So, yeah, Sam and Willie connected with Jesster and his
team out in LA for a game show, and so
both of those guys, you know, came back to the
table and said that it would be awesome to add him.
And Jesster was from his perspective, was looking to be
a part of a professional team, and so like then,
I didn't know much about him as well. So I

(14:47):
had to do my research and due diligence, and and
once I looked him up and see how big of
a just of a reach he had, you know, we
sat down as a team and he said, man, it
would be awesome to bring him in for to be
a part of this. And so now we got on
the phone with his team, and you know, we kind
of hashed out some details, and you know, he said
he would love to be a part of this and

(15:08):
help us push, you know, our message out there and
get tickets sold and come and you know, do what
the marketing we did him to do. And I don't
think he wanted just was to be a part of
the team. So, you know, we announced him and it
blew up and I think we gained up with five
thousand followers in one day. So it just kind of
shows you the magnitude of his reach. And so we're
gonna be excited to have him, and he's excited.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
To be here.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
So so, Anthony, do you think this YouTube star can
play with these guys?

Speaker 4 (15:37):
You asking me?

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, I'm asking you because I figure you know all
about him. You're morever YouTube gathered me.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
I was having you twenty twenty, No, man, every twenty
everybody can't get out on that hardwood and put down
put in work. Now he can come out there. You
watch celebrity events. He can get out there if we're
gonna put in no work. Because twenty y'all was out
there trying to scrap with Louisville last year.

Speaker 7 (16:00):
Yeah, I don't. Actually Anthony Man, he's you know, he's
played in the G League. He's doing some different some
different things. He's a pretty good basketball player. So you
all we just have yeah, you always just have to see.
But you know, his his work is not to come
and and and we be the he'd be the reason
we lose and win the game, you know what I mean.

(16:20):
So he's gonna come, he's you know, I know there's
some people writing the comments about you know, we're relying
on Jester. You know, we're probably not gonna win the games.
And it's not that type of deal at all. You know,
if there's an opportunity that we can fire for him
to get in the game, he will get in. But
if there's not, he won't get in. You know, we're
not we're not looking to win to lose. Uh. You

(16:42):
know according to how well Jester.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
Place twenty, how much is it gonna cost? I guess
ain't no payment. That's it should be a homeboy, you
should have you should get the hometown discount.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
What we gotta do. Get Darius out there? Man, If
I was, If I was, I get out there. But
y'all too big for me.

Speaker 7 (17:03):
Ah Man, Darius Uh, it's just it's been awesome, sorry
for Darius, just to be around and be a part
of what we're doing.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
You know.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
So Darius was great last year with the guys. He's
somebody of course won a lot of Kentucky's National champion
with my former teammate, So it was just great to
have him around the guys that year, and he's gonna
be kind of doing the same this year. So now
it's awesome to have Derrison, but Darius don't play at
that level anymore. He's in shape, but you know, Darius
is given some younger guys the opportunity. But we had

(17:32):
to do open If Darius wanted to play, we had
a spot one. But I think he's you know, doing
more stuff in his business life and just being around
is great for us.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Well, the opening games for you guys is a week
from Friday at the World Coliseum. Tickets still available twenty
and so how do people go back getting them?

Speaker 7 (17:51):
Yeah, figures are still available. I know, I checked myself
a couple of days ago. I think the lord Boat
kind of feeling up, but they're still up a both
tickets left and I think maybe some furs for he's available,
but if you go to tvt's website TVT dot com,
then you click right under just like a tablen the
need that you can sisk select tickets and then go

(18:12):
to the Lessington region and then it'll pop up the
Availa duty of tickets to pop.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
Right up twenty. How special is this now that we're
going to see Kentucky basketball and Memorial Coliseum, because it's
something that never ever happens, especially with the new renovations,
and it's kind of a throwback to the old school
a little bit where we are going to experience this
throughout the summer. It's got to be a special moment
for you.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
All right, it's gonna be awesome. But I just go
back to the times where, you know, when I was
at Kentucky and we had opportunities to practice in there,
and of course, you know, people that was around the program,
I would always tell you how storage that place was,
and you know how you know, it's just how great
it would be to play a game there. And then
this that finally came to fruition this this year. So

(18:58):
it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
You know.

Speaker 7 (18:59):
When I was recruiting the Gain, of course, of course,
Reperena was always a huge seal for the guys to
be a part of our team. Getn't have an opportunity
to come back and play rep. But when I told
the guys that we're not playing up, we're gonna be
playing a memorial, nobody said a word about that. They like, Oh, man,
it's gonna be awesome because we did practicing a lot.
So I think it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
Man.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
I'm looking forward to, you know, it being kind of
a you know, the thing that's kind of being on
top of our opponents, and I'm looking forward to them. Man,
it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
So twenty will Mark Pope and his team have the
involvement with you guys this year.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
I can't really say, you know, I can't really say
what their involvement would be. They don't want to get
myself in trouble before we get started, you know what
I mean. But but I'm sure, I'm sure stuff that
that happens. I'm sure stuff would be posted on social media.
But I just don't want to say anything that I'm
not supposed to say.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Okay, pre maturely, all right, Well, we appreciate it, Like say,
the start off on the twenty eighth, hopefully be playing
three games in Moral, Coliscene and then maybe another one,
then maybe another one.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Yeah, and I want to go ahead.

Speaker 7 (20:04):
I want to say this too, man, I want to
say this too. So we still have an opportunity to
host the tournament all the way through to the championship round,
you know. So it's the second you know, we lost
to the competition in Louisville, but it's now on this
second team and which is the first to four thousand tickets,
and we're right there. So now, you know, we're just wishing,

(20:24):
you know, I hoping our fans can go out by
Souff tickets, support our players, support our guys, support what
we're doing. These guys are so excited to come back
and be in our community again and just be around
and get the love and feel the love again. So
we're going to make sure that the guys are prepared
and go out there and get their best organizationally and

(20:45):
from the plus perspective. So we're ready, and we want
to say thank you to everybody that's been a part
of this and just helped support us. And we're looking
forward to seeing that by July.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Teenth, So you could play three at home.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
That ed.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
If you had to go to Louisville to win to
go to the final fourth and the final four could
still come back on World Colisseum.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Then yeah, yes, sir. If the only way we would
have to go to Liulver to play is if Louisville
wins the region as well, but if Louisville somehow loses
and we can advance, then we could get that fourth
game in Louver as well.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Okay, well that sounds good and also well appreciate it.
Twenty will be good luck with your champions weekend. Anything
we can do next Sunday to promote what's going on,
for anything for you, just let us know. We'll get
you back on everybody tell us what's going on.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
Thank you, Thank you man. I appreciate you talk all.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Right, thank you again. So Tawny Beckham, what a terrific
program he's put together. I really like that roster that
he's got bo and everything and that Anthony. So let's
go ahead and take our break here on Stockyards Bank
Sunday Morning Sports Talk. When we come back, we'll let
Anthony kind of share some more of his football thoughts
with us. So stay with us here on News Radio

(21:51):
six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
This is the Home of the Wildcats, six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
This hour Sunday morning sports talk on news Radio six
potirty w L A P brought to you a Country
Boy Brewing Anthony. Very interesting conversation with twenty Beckham there.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Yeah, yeah, it is young energetic guy. Well to me,
he's young.

Speaker 5 (22:13):
To me and you, he's young, young energetic guy, and
they're doing some great things. It's great to see, Duck
said as we talked about the past couple of weeks,
the guys getting to get back on the hardwood and
do some things, and they're expanding. Like you said, he's
he's getting into that that media stream thing. Now, I
work with kids. Me and Bo both woke at kids, Larry,
and that's kind of the new thing. Like the Generation Z.

(22:37):
They're not talking about getting jobs or nothing. They want
to do it through the media. They're not talking about
doing manual labor. They want to produce their own content.
So I like that Twenty's on it early, you know,
kind of getting that kind of getting that connection.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
I think we're gonna probably see some great stuff from
from Jesster on YouTube. I'll see great stuff on the
court but I think he'll produce some really cool things
that will be fun to look and see what all
he puts together from the event and everything. Now, I
don't know if you're monitoring social media, yes, but.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I am, Yes, you am. Yeah, I want to talk
about that.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Did you see the post from Ed Pittcrow there?

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Yes, Larry Voar, here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Let me talk a call.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
I got a call from Media Relations one time.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Hold on, that'sop. Let me just read it. So, folks
that know what what's got you kind of stirred up
here a little bit, and the Ed posted it. Listening
to the radio show this morning, one thing is pretty
certain UK won't be hiring Anthony as a recruiter. Okay,
so now go ahead, Anthony.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
With a laugh in the mode you make sure they
know they were in.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Just yeah.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
So so here here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
I got a call from Media relations one time, someone
in met relations asking me about my stance on something.
I said, I always support Mark Stoops more than I should.
I always support Barnhart. He has he has the material
for he has a resume for me to support. He's
done a lot of great things. I support Rachel Lost,
I support all so if I say something bad about

(24:05):
one of our program.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
It's not even bad if I it's just that's where
I'm programmed that I can't say bad. It's not bad.
I'm being honest.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
That's right, right, that's what you gotta.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Do, right, So if I'm being honest, it's not bad. So,
and I know Ed was in jail, I know he
was making it. I know he was making light of
the whole situation. But all all U can has to
do is show me that they can uh develop a quarterback.
And that's not a knock on the quarterback. That's not
That's not even a knock on Bush Bush him didn

(24:40):
Bush only been there one year? Did did a Lim developed?

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (24:47):
Uh? Levis?

Speaker 5 (24:51):
So the whole point being is I don't know if
lim did or not. I don't know if Levis just
had an arm and he had a system that fit that.
Lim came back and didn't look as well, and Levis
after limb did so whatever the case might be, point
being is I like what Ed said. I'm not concerned
about UK hiring me in any capacity.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
I know it was a joke. It was absolutely a joke.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
But I do more for UK as far as support
than most people in the media because I have nothing
to gain. I ain't got nothing to lose but me.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
If me being.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Honest is viewed as a knock on university, I would
do Why would? I have no reason to fault this universe.
I have no reason to put mud on this university.
I have no reason to put mustard on it. So
and again I repeat, and was not. I know he
was being funny and my comments are insensitive, but it's

(25:46):
just UK can't run around talking about nobody can be
honest with him.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
Everything.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
Everything's not roses and peaches over here. So if I
say something honest. Now, if I say something that's not true,
and Kentucky can say I'm slandering the UNI version, I'm
slandering a person on the staff, that's fine.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
But I'm just being honest.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Honest criticism is not throwing mud. That's just no, absolutely not,
that's just hones.

Speaker 5 (26:10):
Ed.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
But Ed rode out the red carpet, So I walked
out the carpet.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Yeah, well, that's that's okay. And like I say, you've
got to be honest. There's issues that go on with
every program, and I've had one program recently, not overly
thrilled a couple of things that I wrote and say
about That's just how I feel. I can't change how
I feel, Anthony. Sometimes you gotta have these tough conversations,
and we.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Have tough conversations every Sunday. You had any with Larry today?

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, how to get you on the air.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Na that had the conversation? Men me and bo had
Bow recently have looked at me like kept like, man,
what's wrong with you?

Speaker 7 (26:51):
Hang?

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Let me explain something. People do not understand how much
fun Anthony and I have behind the scenes here in
the studio because we're cracking up, and what you hear
when the commercials are playing is so much different than
what people would hear on the air from us.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
But the one thing Anthony's got to remember, boyes as
when he's not in studio, you got accidentally cut him off.
It's true too, I've learned that over the years.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
So just remember Anthony can cut himself off here on
the computer, like we have found out over the last three.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
So I don't like that.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
So but but yeah, I just want to give you
a chance to kind of answer that. But I think
that's one thing I've always liked about you. Going back
to your playing days and probably get yourself in trouble
little bit in your playing days because sometimes you were
too honestly in probably yeah, and and and that's.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
And that's kind of where I think your failure starts. Larry,
I think your failure starts. And Dennis Johnson probably tell
you the same thing. Your failure starts if you don't
recognize your weakness and you try to gloss over it
as if your weakness is going to cause you to
lose a job.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
It's gonna cause you to lose a game. It could
cause you to lose a whole lot.

Speaker 5 (27:58):
More So, face yourself in the mirror, like relationship wise,
athletic wise, if you got a weakness, work on it.
We can hide it all day long. Now, what Ed
was saying, like I said, it was in jest. I
know he was joking. But what I said, if a
recruit here is that it was like man, one of
our former players weren't great, non.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
Fathers Hall of Famer Larry Vater.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
I may not say that, but I'm saying, as a
formal player, I made a comment.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
There's no different then, had we foud Jock.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Coz Jones on our podcast before, and he said some
things that wuld definitely the program wouldn't like to be
exposed as far as how the inside working is. But
as we stayed early on the show, and as you
posted on social media that I do think we hit
the reset button, Larry Vault, absolutely, and that man been
part of the reason for it's leaving.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
I do think that we hit the reset button. So
all this changed. I think it's good for us.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
I absolutely think it's good for us that we've that
and Vince probably left force whatever reason.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
All right, everybody's mad that it was Louisville.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
He's going to a friend. He has power already in
the state and at this point, I don't know if
thiss was the thin Well do you think this was
a problem? We wentn't foreign eight, Larry.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
And before we get into that, let's go, we got
to call on the Big As Fans hotline for Ron.
Let's let's go take Royn's cole. Good morning, Royan, thank
you for calling us, buddy.

Speaker 8 (29:34):
Hey, if it ain't the living Legend, Larry Vault.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Oh, this is the one and only Ron Briscoe. Then okay,
Ron brisco thank you.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
This is me.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
Hey, Larry, how you being buddy. I hadn't spoke with
you in a long time. You're doing a great job
hosting the show, and your call host is up doing
another great job on this Sunday morning.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Well, we always appreciate you. You were the one that
Colin gave us a couple of recruiting scoops during the
transfer portal season, so we've appreciate the entry information you
gave us on Jayla Lowe and Cam Williams, and no surprise,
it turned out to be exactly right. So thank you
for that.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Roy.

Speaker 8 (30:08):
Oh, you're welcome. Larry. You know, we go way way
back when you had your sports show and I was
a regular guest on it and talking about basketball recruit
and probably your guys, your co hosts probably don't even
know who I am and what I did back then,
but you know, being on.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
That McDonald yourself short, Larry vaufeeld me and I know
I know plenty about you.

Speaker 8 (30:35):
I know plenty about you, now, okay, well, okay, well yeah, Larry, Larry, Larry, Larry,
you should be Are you in the Hall of Fame?
If not, you should be in the Hall of Fame
for a sports writer and a broadcaster because you have
done an exceptional job over the years and talk about

(30:55):
Kentucky basketball history. If you're not one of the pillows
on the lawn by Kentucky basketball history, I want to
know who else knows it. I know a little bit
about it. I can go down the road with you
on some Kentucky basketball. But Morning raised in Lexington, and
my dad was the first superintendent at the Universe of
Kentucky and memory he called us him is where he

(31:17):
took us and we lived in there, and when we
were kids what we were the only kids that could
go to Adolph Ruff's practice because we knew how to act.

Speaker 7 (31:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Well, Ron, you've provided a lot of great recruiting information
over the years. But I tell you not that I
didn't take you serious, But when you tell me how
good Jalen Lowe was going to be here, I don't
think I fully appreciate telling. I went to his first
press conference a couple of weeks ago. I think he's
going to be the most popular player on the team
his personality. If his games anywhere close to his personality,

(31:51):
he's going to be fantastic. And the UK coaches love
Cam Williams. So you set a pretty high bar at
this time next year, we're gonna expect you to colle
gets a couple of those recruiting scoops on who's coming
to Kentucky.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
Two.

Speaker 8 (32:04):
Okay, well, Larry, you know I've been knowing those guys
ever since they were born. I mean, Jailing Lowe grew
up in the gym. I remember Marul and Ire. That's
the friends just like Cam Williams dad Greg little best
of friends. I've been knowing those two kids ever since
they were born, so I knew they were going to

(32:24):
be special because you know, they were brought in the
gym and the dads were basketball guys. And Cam Williams'
older brother is a tremendous athlete who's down playing Pro
Bowl overseas. But I never did think Cam was going
to be six eight sixty nine, but come to find
out that he has an uncle six eight sixty nine.

(32:47):
And also with Jailing, with John Lucas being his godfather,
of course him being left handed like John and John
Water number fifteen at Maryland and the it's only fitting
for Jailing to word number fifteen. But special parents from
both outstanding parents, classic parents, respectable kids, and you right, Larry,

(33:15):
big things are going to happen this year. I have
Kentucky picked to win the national championship this year with
that roster. And I know that I have said that
on social media early, but I really like what Mark
Pope and his staff is doing. And a good friend
of mine that own staff is Mark Fox. I've been
knowing him for over twenty five years. So and I
do know coach JB three over there. I've been knowing

(33:42):
him ever since she was a little kid to Alpham
Brooks's son, because I know his dad very very well. So, Hey,
you know, it all connects when you been doing this
business a long time. And then Larry, we put the
dots together with me and you from from back back
when and helping me on your show and being part

(34:04):
of the lectioning and connection which I try to push
so many kids to the University of Kentucky, you know,
by me working with Nike Basketball and the EYB department
for fifteen years. And when he comes to the Cousins,
and it comes to Archie good One, and it comes
to book Uh, and it comes to all the rest
of the guys that I could name that I helped
push that way during that time period when Kentucky needed

(34:30):
some players. That's what I was telling them. I'm from Lexington,
and Kentucky is where y'all need to go.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Well, well, we thank you.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
Ron.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
You call our show anytime you want to, Buddy, Thank
thank you again.

Speaker 8 (34:42):
Okay, guys, hey have a great Sunday and a great
pot for July weekend. Thanks for accepting my call. And
you guys continue to do your thing on this Sunday
morning sports show.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
All right, we will certainly do that. We're going to
take our final break here on the Stockyards Bank Sunday
Morning Sports Talk on news radio sixt WLAP. Then we'll
be back to wrap things up.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty w
l a P.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Welcome back to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk Larry
Vaud along with Anthony White and Bo Robinson. Kind of
wrapping things up now. So Anthony, you and your mom
have a safe drive home today. Our back here to
accident today.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's gonna be. It's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
She don't drive at night. We leaving at night, so
it's gonna be interesting. Larry Buck, it's gonna be interesting.
And she has something for you. So we may we
may be in Danville, you may you may have Old
Stell and Danville.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Okay, well you just you just let me know I
did fail to mention earlier in the show that I
should have that about. I'm sure all our prayers are
all our prayers go out to all those folks in Texas,
especially that the church came for. So many young girls
have lost their life from that devastating flooding like that.
Anthony just sometimes hard for me to see pictures like

(35:59):
that and belete that things like that can really happen.
I guess I've been lucky all my life to never
be got caught up in anything anywhere near like that,
and even what we've experienced in eastern Kentucky at all.
But it just still just chills me when I see
something like that happen.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
You're absolutely right, we are. We are lucky nowadays. You
got For the past what three years, the country has
been different parts of the country. I've been dealing with
things that it seems like you've become numb to just
you know, just human life. Not numb like you don't care,

(36:37):
but you're just dealing with something after something. You got
to recover from that to deal with the next one. So,
like you said, I mean you are you are doing
good to really be affected by it, because, like I said,
it's come to the point where it's just common. Well, hey,
there's another disaster that's terrible where you know, I said,
it's I don't know, I have no idea, I have

(36:59):
no words.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
I have no words.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Yeah, me either. I just can't imagine after I've got
to spend a week with all my grandkids just recently
here and thinking they're in the age group of what
some of these children are that have just lost their
lives and been swept away. And you read the stories
about how they found a girl they'd been floating on
a mattress for what eight hours in the water, and
they found it, and found another one that was clinging
to a tree somewhere, and they did survive, but all

(37:24):
the ones who didn't. And I was reading about where
one former athlete, you know, I had to knock windows
out of the house and everything to get his family out,
but he suffered injuries and he didn't make it. So
it's just there's just so many stories that just break
your heart and all from that disaster down there, and
hopefully they'll get some closure, we can move on from that.

(37:47):
But it's just such a tough tough thing to deal with,
so probably should have mentioned that earlier and just forgot
about it.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
One more addition, I know you should not have because
I didn't want to have to do that the whole show.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
I'm glad you did it right and that tail ed
go ahead boat.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Addition, we want to send our thoughts and prayers out
and our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of
the young boy that lost his life in the tragedy
at the pool in Richmond this past week. Certainly a
tough conversation, hard to deal with, hard to see that
stuff that you kind of reiterated there, Larry, But we
want to send out our thoughts and prayers to the

(38:21):
family and all those affected.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Yeah, good reminded there, Broll, And I kind of forgot
about mentioning that too. So it's just things that you'd
never want to have to talk about, but sometimes they
just happen. And hopefully things will get better for the
folks down in Texas, and hopefully doesn't get that way
over on the East Coast, where I guess they're supposed
to be all kind of rain coming there. I mean,
one thing about it. Right now, we don't have to

(38:43):
worry about rain. Right here, it doesn't look like but
over on the East Coast, I guess they're getting ready
to get hammered this weekend too, so or the next
couple of days, hopefully nothing like what they've had in Texas.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
Larry, tell you man run a big time run, telling
me if he going to keep reporting about Kentucky, you're
sending players over there, make sure he don't be honest
about his opinions because if it ain't because it is not,
if it's not a glowing opinion, then then you're gonna
get ridicued on Facebook by Pickerel.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Well, that's okay, you can take it. You can take it, Anthony.
So thanks to everyone for joining us and listening today.
Bo Robinson will have the podcast links up later this afternoon,
so until then, we'll be back next week on the
Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning, Sports Style Care on News Radio
six point thirty w l A. P. Thanks for being
with us today and thank you Bo for such great
music all morning long.
