Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty WLAP
Welcome back, Stockyards Bank, Sunday Morning Sports Talk. Good old
Sunday Morning sports Talk. I'm Anthony D.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim, coming to
you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Return refreshed, re f You pick up a lottery ticket,
you might win one hundred and sixty seven million dollars.
But if you don't, then just pump your gas, get
you a snack. Yeah, yeah, that's what you do. Larry Vaught.

(00:37):
Before we get to the big ass fans hotline, which
we have to because Roy has been extremely patient and waited,
we do. I know you're not against it, and I
will come. I think Larry is from Lebnon. My mother
has a cousin who lived a close cousin, like a
first cousin that I just met this past summer last summer.

(00:59):
That I will come. Larry Varden, we should we should
meet Larry from Lebnon for brunch. We got to coordinate
that you're against that or all?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
No, it sounds good, got I got the perfect spot
and Dan, but we could do that.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I said Lebnon, So you're gonna have him come to Danville?
Is that close?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It'd be about the same for him to get from
Lebanon to Daniels will be for you to get the
election into Dana.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Okay, So we'll coordinate that. So Larry from Lebnon inbox
us on Instagram, not on Instagram, Twitter X or Facebook,
and give us us information maybe some times and dates,
and I will meet Larry and Danville for you guys,
so we can you can actually meet. I thought you

(01:44):
guys were good old buddies the way these conversations has
been going on for the past ten years. And I
did not know he did not ever meet you, Larry,
And he seemed he sounded very disappointed that he didn't
meet you at the Great American Brass Band Festival.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Well, I'm sorry too. With the number of hours I
spent there, it does get a little confusing with the
way the schedule reads how we in town interpret the
Price Band Festival Like I say, for me, Thursday is
set up day, Friday and Saturday all day is all
day at the festival. So the only segment of those

(02:22):
three days that he would not have seen me anywhere
out was probably the six to ten o'clock range.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
On Thursday night, and he picked that windows.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I wish he had just had somebody calling. Now it
came on up there to.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
See that is true, he could Yeah, maybe he doesn't
have social media because he could watch you on social media.
But see, but it has to be nice to be loved,
and you know, Jack and I aspire sometimes at some
point in our life to get to that point, Larry,
where people are disappointed that they don't get to see.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Oh, I think you guys are way past that.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
If you like to join the show eight five nine
to eight zero two two eight seven eight eight zero cats,
if you'd like to become a sponsor Pepsi, because your
name has your your brand has been mentioned at least
ten times a day, because Larry from Lennon also mentioned
Pepsi several times. You might want to get over to
do some advertisements. Bring some products over here so Bow

(03:18):
and I can have some beverages to drink and I
won't be so parched in my And then first segment
where my voice started to break, I needed some liquid,
some other type of liquid, and it couldn't been country boys,
because country boys will gratefully bring us some things over
but PEPSI think about that advertisement with us. Let's get
to the biggest fans hotline to see what Roy has
to say. Roy, I apologize. I'm sure you've been keeping

(03:40):
up with the show and I always like your calls,
but I'm sorry to keep you on hole so long.
What do you got for us?

Speaker 4 (03:47):
I appreciate you, guys. I listened to you every Sunday.
This is the first time I've been able to get
in for a while. I like John Short He's got
me saying Oki doki.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
He did here.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, I got something happened. I go okki. But anyway,
on the football park last year, Kentucky was so predictable.
When they got into the red zone, they would take
leave us out, not leve us, but the guy that
was there, and put that other quarterback in and try
to run it. And they wanted to beat old mess.

(04:23):
If that kid hadn't a caught that fumble and landed
on the end zone, they would have went three and
nine last year. And I'd like to say this about it.
I don't know why they give that guy a raise.
And I'm going to say this about Mark Stoops. He's
overpaid and underproduced. I've watched Kentucky football since nineteen seventy six.

(04:48):
I watched them when they had Dark Ramsey there and
those guys, and I've watched them. Of course back then
you couldn't hardly watch them on TV. I got to
see them once a year. But anyway, I don't know.
If they go four and eight and that's your three
and nine this coming season, the ni A money will

(05:11):
dry up. And I appreciate you all for taking my call,
and I enjoy your show what I listened to it
ever Sunday.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Okay, appreciate the call. Roy, thank you for that. Jack Pilgrim.
Two things that he said that I want to address
or see, get your opinion on one. Mark Stoop's being overpaid.
Here's one thing. And you haven't been on this show
as long as Larry and I For one thing that
we have always taken a fit. I haven't taken offense

(05:42):
to it. I know Mark Berger did, and his tenure
as the host. He said, if such and such would
not have happened, we would now beat all missing, we
would have been three and nine. Why if some good
happens for us, we got it gotta be discounted. But
so if some bad happens against us, then is overvalue.
So the two things is that he and I like Roy.

(06:05):
Roy always has a pretty good perspective and I don't
mind it, but our fan base as a whole is
always well we would have been like they will always
find the worst end of us being fortunate from an incident,
but when we're unfortunate in the incident, then they magnify it.
So those two things is Mark Stoops over Paige Jack Pibble.

Speaker 6 (06:29):
No, I don't think he's overpaid, but because again I
think it, I see both sides of the conversation that
we have argued about for several years now about how
difficult it is to build a winning, winning culture in
Lexington and you know the resources demanding, you know, facility

(06:51):
upgrades and those things.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
He he is.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
The all time winningest coach in the history of the
program for a reason, and he does nerves that money.
But with that money comes accountability, and it comes, you know, criticism,
and it comes with all of the things that you know,
you would you elevate yourself to a new level. Once
you have kind of you know, you're a top ten

(07:15):
paid coach, you deserve to be criticized. As a top
ten paid coach if you had, and it'll fill in
the blanket the other nine in college football, it is
that they experienced a four and eight season, they would,
you know, whether they're fired or not, they would experience
unbelievable backlash by their passionate fans, like it's it you.
You can't have your cake and eat it too when

(07:37):
you work your way up to become paid what he
is and then once things go south and you know,
the difficulties rack up, then you.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Go, oh, pity me.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
You know, nil is tough, and the portal site, it's
free agency every offseason. This is hard.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
This job is really hard. Yeah, it is.

Speaker 6 (07:55):
That's why you're getting paid what you are.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
So no, he's not.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
But the lack of you know, I wouldn't say this offstage,
but last year and you know, the years before when
they plateaued, it just it felt like there was a
lack of accountability and a lack of like, hey, no,
you have been rewarded.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
This is the reward. This is a part of the reward.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
So I I you know, Dave, I really loved Dave's call,
not because he called for you know, Stoops firing, but
there was a sense of Okay, he's been around for
decades upon decades, you know, from the seventies, saying that,
you know this, we helped establish the culture of wanting
to win every single game and being you know, angry

(08:38):
if we didn't win every single game, and there is
a sense of like, Okay, it's not just the young guys,
you know, the millennials as you call me, that just
doesn't understand how hard it is to win it in Kentucky.
So to hear him kind of say that, no, I'm
not about the money, not about anything. It's about demanding
excellence for this program and never falling short of the

(08:59):
of that expectation and then standard I really appreciated that call,
especially not singling out though whether he should be fired
or not, but just the demanding of excellence. I think
we needed to hear that from, you know, an older voice.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I agree another old boys Larry Vaught. Really quickly, before
we get back to the big ass fans hotline, is
Mark Stoops overpaid in your opinion in going back to
when he was actually paid, not at this point, but
is he overpaid from his whole body of work.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
No, I don't think so. Because of the time he
got the contract. I think what he was doing he
didn't want to lose him. That was gonna probably what
it was going to take to keep him. And as
you said, overall, he's raised the expectation level where this
has put him in this position where we're talking about
where kind of rich Brooks started that process, Mark took

(09:54):
it to a different level, and so part of it
he's kind of a victim of his own earlier success.
And so no, I don't think overall you would say
he is overpaid. But I do think if you say
underproduced last year that I think that's a fair statement.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
I agree with you, and who I typically agree with
is Alvin. So let's head over to the big Ass
Fans Hotline to see what Alvin has to say. Good morning, Alvin,
what do you got for us? Oh? You want to Hey,
are you burning something that sounds like a smoke? Detective?

Speaker 5 (10:31):
My wife has been doing something. Yeah, listen, that's at
a nice call from Larry that you know he wanted
to meet, you know, the host of Larry. You think
about the celebrities in his town, Mark Pope comes to mind.
John John chy Pray used to be that away a

(10:53):
person that wanted to individuals wanted to meet uh Anthony.
When I was a young kid, I wanted to meet
Muhammad al Lee. I did get to see him when
he was at the Commonwealth Stadium for interview with Howard
Coastal back in I think maybe nineteen nineteen seventy four
he had a fight coming up. I always wanted to
meet Muhammad Ali. I love what he said, love what

(11:15):
he's done. So in Lexington, who you think would be
the s that someone would would want to meet? Would
it be maybe Mark Pope? Would it be the radio
guy Matt Jones was very popular in this region. Would
it be Mark Stoops, who's the head football coach? Or

(11:36):
would it be an athlete that plays on the football
field or the basketball coach? Call it who you think
that fans would really really want to meet if they
had a chance to do so in the sports arena
in Lexon take a touch?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Okay, thank you for the call, Alvin. We appreciate that.
Jack Pilgrim, who well, I don't know if you've really
even went back, But who do you think the fan
base would that's it? And we all are different, we
all are different age groups, so it will be interesting
to see what we all would think. But Jack, who

(12:13):
do you think if you had to set up an event,
an autograph signing or a meet and greet, and you
were going to be financially compensated, maybe they had to
pay to get who would be the person that you
would select that you think the fans would pay to
come out and see. Oh, I think the answer is easy.

Speaker 7 (12:30):
I think it's Larry Vaught, clearly, clearly, clearly there.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
Is an appetite for Larry Vott.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
So I think that's that's the first call.

Speaker 6 (12:39):
I'm maker.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Give me a realistic answer, But I'm not Larry. I
don't mean realistic, like that's not true.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
But Jack has got me feeling really good. My voice
was coming. I got you.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
No, but I'm no. I am a little interested because Jack,
you are involving a lot of I think it'll be
really tough for you, just because you interview a lot
of athletes, and you know you've met a lot of
maybe Anthony Davis, Jamal Mashburn, Cali Perry.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
I think it just depends on what the event is,
and you know what type of message you're trying to deliver,
and you know if you're needing you know, our to
rally of the fan base and you know, rally a crowd.
You know, Mark Pope right now is just the He
has mastered the art of politicking as a as a

(13:35):
head coach already. You know, he's a year into the
job and he's already mastered, you know, saying the right
words at all times. So if I need him to
lead a speech or a convention or you know, some
type of event, I don't think there's anybody better that
you could you could bring in to do that. But
I guess to be a little creative, hmm. Thinking like

(13:59):
from a play Lenz, who is always very thoughtful, and
I think Tyree's Maxi is a very good, like you know, young, energetic,
you know, speaks on behalf of you know, really passionate
about you know, things that he believes in, and you know, nice, thoughtful.
I think Tyree's Maxie is probably a very underrated guy

(14:20):
that I would definitely trust to you know, sell sell
a product or you know, be a part of of
an event that I needed. I needed a keynote speaker
for Larry Vault.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
We have a weere up against a hard break, So
keep put your thinking hat on. I'm gonna penalize Jack
Pilgrim because I teed it up for him and he
did not select Shay Gilges Alexander. We'll be back after this.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony D.
White and along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught, Stockyards
Bank has been your trusted partner since one Thoy nine
hundred and four, So head on over to syb dot
com for all your banking and financial needs. Jack Pilgrim,

(15:14):
I do want to get this out of the way
before we get before we lose you at the At
the break, uh oh taga Oway is returning to UK,
which I think you thought that would have been the case.
I thought you thought there were some factors that may
decide either way. But uh, he's coming back. It's going

(15:37):
to be more than likely the centerpiece of our productivity
offensively and defensively. Your take on him returning, You're surprised,
not surprised. Does it change Vegas' odds for us with
him returning. Yeah, no surprise at all.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
This was one that I think Kentucky thought was pretty
comfortable bet just knowing the investment they put into him
and how important he was to last year's roster, and
you know, how much upside he had in terms of
draft stock and you know, so much more room for
growth that it just kind of made perfect sense for

(16:18):
all parties involved. O take a can come back and
be a first team All American and you know, preseason
SEC Player of the Year, make a ton of money
doing it, and be you know, a superstar for the
biggest brand in college basketball. I mean, it just it
made way too much sense for all parties involved in Kentucky.
You know, there's a reason why they never really explored

(16:38):
a backup option, a you know, hey, what happens if
he pulls his name out, who would we explore?

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Or keeps his name in? Who would we explore?

Speaker 6 (16:46):
It never even got to those types of conversations because
they felt so strongly the entire time about Otega coming back.
And I think the best example of that was his
commit you know, I guess return announcement video where he
still has his you know, long hair, pre haircut. That
that was back in mid May and mid April when
he got his haircut going into the draft process. So

(17:09):
we got the video of him with his long hair
still announcing that he was returning. So a pre recorded
video from over a month ago of him announcing that
he'd be he'd eventually coming back to Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
So I did not too much suspense theres.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
So Jack, Oh yeah, just Jack surprised you that he
had recorded that video so far back. I mean, he
didn't surprise me, that's what he was thinking, but the
fact that he went ahead and recorded it so far
back did kind of surprise me.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
I do wonder if that was a you know, I
don't know if you recorded a second video that said, hey,
by BBN, this has been a blast, I'm.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Going to the draft. I don't know if that was
the case.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
I'd like to think that he didn't because he was
that certain, but I think there was just so much
optimism and just it was such a clear it would
have taken a massive upset for it to go any
differently than he did. Like it was my understanding when
he signed it, when he put his name in the
draft initially to test the waters that he went in

(18:10):
to he was gonna do the all in stuff, say,
I'm totally dedicated to this process. I'm going to see
it all the way through. I am going to wait
until the deadline to make a decision one way or
the other with a ninety nine point five percent chance
that it's going to end up with me coming back. Now,
if you know, I know that he was kind of
monitoring there at the end, if you know there was

(18:30):
a run of twenty big time college players that decided
to pull their name out at the deadline, in kind
of where he would be, Okay, I'm a fringe second
round guy, maybe undrafted, and then so many people withdraw
that I'm now a late first round pick, and he goes, well,
shoot now I kind of have to keep my name in.
He kind of kept the door open slightly for one
of those types of scenarios while acknowledging the entire time

(18:53):
that a return was the most likely scenario. And that's
exactly how it unfolded. So I'm glad he recorded the
video when he did. I think it's a nice little
easter egg to kind of solidify the process.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
That is Jack Pilgrim. We appreciate his work, follow his
work we will be back after this. You are listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news RIP.
This is the home of the Wildcats.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Six thirty wlap Betyl six thirty wlap Welcome back Stockyards
Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk of Anthony White along with
Larry Vault.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Anthony D. White with Larry Vault, Larry Uh. This hour
a Sunday winning sports talk is brought to you by
Country Boy Brewing Larry Vaught. I didn't give you an
opportunity because I knew we only had jack former segment.
But I was kind of curious as to Alvin's question
if you were to have a function that you were
to profit or gain revenue profit, and you had to

(19:54):
pick a fan favorite, someone that fans would like to
meet in lection, and I guess, I guess because it's
a sports show, we kind of relegated just the sports.
But who would you select? But I know you know
a lot of celebrity people, he said in lection, because
I would have you bring Dolly Parton. That's one person

(20:14):
over the years I think I would like to meet
Dolly Parton.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
But go ahead, Yes, he's pretty cool. I've had a
chance to meet her and to briefly a couple of times,
it's been a pretty remarkable thing. And what you see
is what you get, whether she's in front of a
crowd of two or twenty million, I would think so
that would be lovely.

Speaker 8 (20:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
I mean, there's so many antheon and I think what
you said about it just kind of depends on who
the people are as and what an age group maybe.
I mean, I don't even start to know, because there's
so many terrific people in the Lectionon area, so many
great athletes. Me you go back to Tim Kouch is

(20:56):
certainly one that I think, But I think also Given
still brings in a lot of folks, the older folks
because that nineteen seventy eighteen scoring forty one in that
game against Duke. You go back to there, I mean
going back in that era too. The Derrick Ramsey and
the Art Steel were huge names for people. But then today,

(21:18):
I mean, it's just so different. There's been so many guys.
I like what Jack said about Tyrese Maxi, but I mean, heck,
who wouldn't want to go out with Anthony Davis. But
I think probably if you just picked today, I think
the number one choice would be Mark Pope. Really yeah,
because he's here and he's coaching now, it's something immediate.

(21:40):
Can you can meet him, hang out with him, and
then you'd be able to go watch his team play.
I mean if you got to hang out with Anthony
Davis and then he heads back. But because of Pope
is here, I think he would be the guy right now.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
And that you know. When I was looking at the
list and I said, I don't know. Maybe because I'm
a player, I've been extra only fortunate. I met I
met Dereck Ramsey, I met Art Steele, I met DERMONDI Dawson.
I met Sonny Collins, I met Tim Couch, I met
Mark Pope, I met Antoine Walker, I met Rajiohn Rondo.

(22:13):
I met John Wall Like I don't, I don't know, man,
Like I said it would, it would really be tough.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
I mean, like say, I just don't even know where
you were. It had to be a pretty big party.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
I think that's what it should be. It should be
a party, Alvin, it should be a party. It shouldn't
be just one person. Bo I'm gonna I'm gonna put
you on the spot.

Speaker 8 (22:36):
Man.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
I know you sit behind the board and I know
you're a great fan. This is something I think you
will enjoy. What would who would be your person?

Speaker 7 (22:44):
Yeah, that's a tough one because I have so many
interest whether it's UK basketball, football, horse, racing, music. It's
a tough one and a lot of the UK players
that were talking about I've already met. So for something
to be really special, I think to me, and this

(23:05):
would be are we talking special to me? Or just
overwhelming a popular event to have a celebrity add.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
I think it's overwhelming. I think it's probably if I
don't think it's personal, because okay, I think he wants
to know what the fan base in general, just not
just Bob Robinson.

Speaker 7 (23:21):
I think you have to have Is it just one
person or can to be multiple people? Why are you
making this complicated because I need parameters. I need parameters.
I need to know is it's worth my time? Is
it worth the fans time? Is it worth the money involved?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Bring whoever you want?

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Yeah, bring who you want.

Speaker 7 (23:43):
I tell you what, here's what I would do. I'll
double up as Mark Pope and I'll sign autographs for everybody. Yeah,
you could pull you probably could have many times.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
You got to stretch yourself a little bit just to.

Speaker 7 (23:55):
Tan and my pants might need to be a little
bit tighter. But other than that, No. Number one, I
would probably go with Mark Pope as far as somebody
bringing people together, whether it's for a good cause, because
we know he's more than capable of doing that, somebody
that has a very popular status with people fans throughout

(24:15):
the state. I think you get Mark Pope. I think
Jack Gibbons is a great, great choice because he is
so out there. He's right in the middle of Kentucky
basketball and he kind of bridges that younger generation and
the older generation of Kentucky basketball fans. Those would be
my two. And then from Jelly Rolling for the hell

(24:37):
of it.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Vince merrill I did not create those people's list, and
I do not agree with them. You would be my
person because I know you and I know you're a
lot of fun. So if you did not, say Vince,
and if you I would, if you, as a fan,
call into the show, let us know somebody that you
would pay to meet. That is a I guess Central Kentucky.

Speaker 7 (25:02):
Hang on, I'm going to throw one out there because
I had this conversation with somebody.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
And I say, Messiah Russell, after you didn't addr into
the top.

Speaker 7 (25:09):
You know what, I profusely apologized.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
No, you did not enough. It wasn't enough.

Speaker 7 (25:15):
It's all for entertainment purposes. I was just creating controversy
for you. Here's what I would do. Give me Oscar Combs.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
I wouldn't argue that. I wouldn't argue that.

Speaker 6 (25:28):
Now.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
I'm a little biased because I'm a good friend of Oscar.
But I had somebody the other day said, Hey, would
it be possible that I can meet Oscar Combs? And
I said, I might be able to arrange that at
some point this summer, and he said, I want to
meet Oscar. I just want to say thank you for
everything that he has done. And Oscar is so big
on Twitter and everything that he posts. I think a

(25:51):
lot of people would get a chance, wouldn't take the
chance to come out and meet Oscar and visit with
him for a couple of minutes. I really do.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
I think that's the part of the conversation that got
lost before we get back to our other conversations. But
I think that's the part of the conversation that got lost.
I was kind of thinking of because I started thinking
about Grover Sales. That is it somebody that you want
to meet, like you said, get an autograph in a
picture with Or is it someone you want to meet
and talk to who's going to give you history everything,

(26:20):
And you're gonna walk away from there thinking, you know
you had a great time because I, Larry fought, let
me ask you one more time. Then we're gonna get
back to the original subject, living or non living? Would
that change your opinion? Because if it was non if
it was living or non living, I would I think

(26:41):
I would pick joeby Hall. That was one of just
by was it by chance meeting? And that was one
of the greatest moments of you know, from people that
I've met, and I met a lot of people. I
was just like, man, this guy is awesome. I just
walked away thinking he's awesome. And I think that's how
I would feel if I met value pardon. But does

(27:01):
that change your answered, Larry.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
I guarantee you. I guarantee you that's how you would
feel if you if you met her, because that's just
what she makes you feel feel like. But I yeah,
if there was one you could wave and bring Joe back,
I think that would be one I mean, I think
the list could just go on. I think a lot
of people would probably love a chance to meet Tom
Leach and just say and hang out with Tom Leach

(27:25):
some too, So I mean I think it could, it
could just go on around. But I just still think
if you're just talking immediately today, I would say Mark Pope.
And the only reason I would say, I would say Mark,
and Vince is a really good one. But heck, I
feel like everybody in town already knows Vince, right. I mean,
he's so he's so out and about it and never.

(27:45):
I mean, you can just see Vince whatever you want,
just message him on social media. He'll probably come meet you.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
That is true. Vince is easier to get a hold
of than Larry Vaude is.

Speaker 7 (27:56):
Apparently Larry was up upset about that.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
He was I was for him.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
You should feel bad, And I'm not saying that in
that way because I thought you and Larry were big buddies,
and I'm I don't think I'm important at this point anymore.
But I would feel bad as well if I knew someone,
if I told someone I was going to be somewhere,
and that's typically in Larry, well, you know, me. If
I make an obligation, I typically hold it, and that

(28:24):
that would be. And that's where I kind of felt
about Larry's comments, as if maybe partially may felt like
you were misleading, which I knew you weren't, but I
also knew what you had ahead of you after Thursday,
and so it's just kind of you know someone, and
that's why you talk about the NBA and the low
management where people take off games like someone could have

(28:47):
saved up all their money to come see you or something.
Obviously he took a portion of his day to come
meet you, So I don't. I'm not trying to make
you feel guilty or bad or anything.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
You're making me feel real bad. I'm never breaking down
in tears. I've had enough of an issue. I've messed
my grandson up a little bit last night in a
certain way. It didn't mean too so I'm having a
bad morning. Now you're making me feel even worse.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
No, No, I'm saying I feel for you because I
know how I know how you must feel knowing that someone,
and that's what I'm saying that I don't think you
shoud feel bad.

Speaker 7 (29:19):
Hey, can I throw a name out there real quick?

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Larry Vaught. We already threw it out there.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
Go ahead, besides Larry Vault. Let's say, I don't know,
somewhere around July, if shake Gil just Alexander came back,
it have to be.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
It have to be.

Speaker 7 (29:37):
I mean, you're talking MVP. Let's say he wins the
NBA Championship. Yeah, within the next week or so. I
think if you wanted the hot name besides Mark Pope
and maybe SGA.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
You do know you do host this show. I don't
hope stuff produce produce. I mean, you do produce this show,
and you do. You did throw out a really good
but you do know that name was thrown out before
we went to break.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
You do know that I do multiple duties that Sunday morning, right,
I don't hear everything.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
I pegg I ping Jack for not saying Shay Gibs
just out of stand I did say.

Speaker 7 (30:17):
That we're just lucky to get at ten forty six
at this point, exactly.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
I agree. I agree. We added that Larry Vault. I
did want to kind of get your thoughts because we're
gonna have Van House on at eleven, so I kind
of want to have ramped this up a little bit.
And I like our buddy Hope calling it in and
it was passionate, and I do agree with Hope, and
Van will tell you. I don't know if we're going
to have that conversation, but I do think there was

(30:43):
a portion of the time that Van and I played
together where we don't know if everybody was pulling the
same rope. We may have been pulling the same rope,
but some people were may not strong enough to pull
that rope, and they just want to be on the
team or wear a jersey. And that is why you
and I had a conversation a couple months ago or
a little over a month ago about a player who

(31:06):
should have been happy to wear in a jersey and
they kind of spit in the face of the university.
I feel as if, and I know you and I
the more I talk to people, you and I differ
greatly on that on that stance, and I appreciate your
view and I understand why your view. I appreciate the
athletes and the athlete in question, but.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
I just.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
I'm just kind of wondering the last couple of comments
and Mark Stoops has made here recently, do you think
that he's genuinely do you think it's genuine that he's
rededicating himself, he realizes, you know where he fell short.
You know, he's getting back to work. He's you know,
he's grinding. Do you or do you just think he

(31:53):
has to say something because you and I on this show,
and I think a lot of people have said, well,
we haven't heard anything, you have to say something. And
I think he just said, we know, we're we're behind
the scenes working and you'll see the product, and we
don't know at this point the product is so as
we've talked about on this show. We're not certain if
that's going to sell tickets come and uh, sale tickets

(32:13):
up until August. But it is something. And I do
think he's grind and I do think he's working because
he has no other option.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Yeah, I've got no reason to think that it's not accurate.
And I like when Jack was representing about being on
being interviewed by Randall Cobb and talking to him, and
he talked about that they were holding back on individual
praise and individual accolades because they felt like maybe some
players kind of fucked when they said nice things about him.
They didn't have to do anything, and they could just

(32:42):
kind of do what they wanted, which still seems a
little extreme. If that's what the case was, then so
be it. But again, just come out at least say
some things like that to let people know kind of
what's going on. And that's why you're not praising players now.
It's not that our team's that bad. I don't want
to say anything. It's just I'm doing this intentionally. I
think that was a good thing to do and something
they probably needs to do more of in the next

(33:04):
month or so to kind of let people know what
direction they're planning to go. And then hopefully this is
going to be the tougher, more discipline stoops and then
we'll see in the day. It's when your roster turns
over sixty percent every year, whether you can really do
that or not, or whether it'll turn over eighty percent
the next year if you get too tough and too disciplined.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
That remains to be seen. The show is going to
continue after this break. We'll be back. You're listening to
Stockyards Bank Sunday morning sports talk on Who's Radio six
thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Welcome back, Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony D.
White along with Larry Vaught. The big ass fans hotline
are lit up, So let's add on over there, try
to get these in. We're gonna do a little rapid
fire because I don't want to rush anybody out of there.
Let's see what Time has to say. Good morning Time.
What you got for us?

Speaker 9 (34:02):
Hey, Anthony, you're doing okay.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
I'm doing my I'm getting hydrated. I'm drinking a lot
of water.

Speaker 8 (34:07):
I got them all right.

Speaker 9 (34:09):
What I got for you is a message for Jack Pilgrim.
When these guys say that Mark Stoops is a winning
his football coach ever to coach at the university, that's
just so bogus. He's also the losing his football coach
ever to coach at the university. The guy's got more
losses in the SEC. We have to play in the SEC, Anthony,

(34:29):
we can't play in the Mid American Conference. All those
wins come out of Mid American Conference and against Vanderbilt
and maybe against teams that in the SEC when he
was winning ten games, he won ten games two seasons. Well,
if you'll look back over those records, the teams he
was beaten with weren't very good right then, Missouri was
in the tank, Tennessee was in the tank, and he

(34:50):
only beat them twice. Tennessee he beat the twice. And
they've had six football coaches since Mark Stoops has been
in Kentucky and he's only beating them twice in twelve years.
The guys just overrated. And when he left here, they
would go to Texas, A and M. He comes back
with a bogus statement in the middle of the night
saying he just couldn't couldn't bear to leave Kentucky. That

(35:12):
was just a bogus statement. They pulled the pro they
pulled the offer on him, and he came back and
basically told a bold faced lie to the Kentucky fans.
They ought to get rid of that guy. And then
and then, and then he's got a contract that that
that that they have to pay him too much money.
I hate to admit it, but I've been I've had
season two, I had season tickets. It's stall Field. That's

(35:34):
how far back I go with Kentucky football. And he
is absolutely, in my opinion, the worst football coach that
we've ever had. And he and they pay him more
money he's made more money in nine and at the
time he's been here, poor old Rich Brooks. He's made
more money in one year than Rich Brooks made the
whole time he was here. And Rich brook Brooks was

(35:55):
a much better football coach.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Unwind on you, Like, I can't disagree with I cannot
disagree with a lot of things you said. But I'm
gonna have Larry Larry Vault fact check me. But I
believe we've probably we've only won ten games maybe four
times in the history of Kentucky football, and he has
two of them. So if you turn your so, if
you turn your nose up at the ten win seasons,
we've only had like I think four, and he has

(36:22):
half of them.

Speaker 9 (36:25):
In assess SEC, we're a Southeastern Conference team who he
beats in the Atlantic Coast Conference and up there in
all those sam cupcake teams that he plays. That that
doesn't mean anything to anybody. Look at his record against
the SEC teams. That's where he has to play. And
it's a bus It's abusin.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Anthony with Tom, I appreciate your call. Like again, I
do not disagree with you, but I do want to
try and get these calls in before we go to
break and come back with Ed House. Dennis, good morning.
What do you got for me? We ain't got a
whole lot of time. I'm sorry to do this to you.

Speaker 8 (37:00):
Sorry, this is Tom. Guy just totally kicked me off.
He's like all of the UK fans. He has a
short memory. Look at the ten win seasons Marks had
compared to other coaches, and he'd beat South Carolina four
or five years in a row. He'd be four to
three years in a row. I mean, compare his record

(37:21):
with other coaches have been been at UK and SEC.
Let's go to what I mean. It's just these people
just have short memories. Uh. The guy would want to
talk to that knows more about UK football and basketball,
but it's gone. It's kateled Lefford. And here here as
far as the discipline, Anthony, if you're gonna be if

(37:43):
you're gonna be a disciplinarian, and the guys don't want
to play for you, do you need really need them? Anyway?

Speaker 2 (37:50):
You do not? And Dennis, I'm sorry to do this
to you. We're gonna have Van House. We're gonna throw
your comments around. And that has been my question. The
discipline and accountability has been my problem with UK football,
and I think that's remark. Stoops is restoring his efforts.
We will be back after this. You're listening stock Yards
Bank Sunday when the sports talk on. It was Radio
