Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty WLAP
Welcome in Stockyards Bank, Sunday Morning Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm Anthony D. White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim,
coming to you from Clark's mainstream market studios in drizzling
downtown Lexa, Kentucky, Clark's Pumpy Shop. Return, Refresh and refuel.
Good morning, Larry Vaught, How are you doing this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Hi? I am doing wonderful, my buddy.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
How about yourself? I had a really good good week.
I made my first.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Pie on my own, well not exactly on my own.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I'm my first pie for a charity contest down here,
so that was quite an experience. Will say, it's my
first time to make a pie in my lifetime because
it's more work than I ever want to do again.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
That's in yesterday.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
I spent the day over in Versailles at the Woodford
Club with my grandson watching the LPGA Legends and had
just a magnificence seven hours at all watching those former
LPGA greats and along with some of the amateur players
from across the state of Kentucky play and it was
just a lot of fun and if you want to
(01:15):
get out and about and enjoy some good golf and
be part of history.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Go there today and watch them.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
My mother always says made like there's certain things like
pies and cakes, and they say from scratch? Did you
make it from scratch? Because you act like it took
a whole lot of times. I thought you just pour
the stuff in there, put in the oven, take it out,
cut it.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
Oh well, now I don't know, because my mentors were
the ladies that work at Melpin's Deli by the cinema here,
and I just went by what they told me. But
just like mashing the butter up and stirring what went
in there and all, and then taking the pie in
and out seventeen times to make sure the crust was
(02:00):
open the right shade of golden brown. Yeah, it was
a I thought it'd be about.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
A fifteen minute process.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
It's a lot longer, a lot longer process.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
So I'm assuming it was a sweet potato pie.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Now it was an apple crumb pie.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I don't know. Now that sounds like something I don't
even eat sweets. That sounded like something I get into
before we get a jackpick on. One other thing, you
said you were out the golf I know we were
supposed to get a whole lot of rain yesterday, but
I was out at a celebration from the west end
of Lexington or the east end, let me think it
(02:35):
was the east end of Lexington, and it was supposed
it rained a little bit toward the end, so I'm
assuming y'all missed the range. So y'all had a pretty
good day. Y'all didn't get any rain over there? Did
you have the golfer them?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
It sprinkled maybe twice, but no, not like what I
had thought based on the early projections, and then just
what the sky looked like. I mean, I know it's
only kept talking about a fifteen to twenty percent chance,
but there were some dark skies at the time.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
But no, it did not rain, and it was just
a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
I've spent a lot of time following Nancy Scranton, the
former UK golfer who had played on the LPGA tour
for quite a while, and because her amateur partner or
the group the amateurs playing with her included Jessica Cornelius
of Stamford, who I have probably known for fifty five years.
(03:27):
So Jessica was older than the probably a lot of
the LPGA legends that were there, So it was fun
watching her and just watching her enjoy the experience of
getting to play with some of the best on the
LPGA tour, the ones that had kind of established the
legacy of women's golf that allowed her to do what
she's done.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I'm glad it worked out. Jack Pilgrim, how are you
doing this morning? Well, it wasn't a pie, but my
month old made me chocolate chip pancakes this morning. They
were the most delicious I've ever had in my life.
So we're in a little baking spree here on Sunday
morning Sports Talk this morning. So at the nineteenth nineteen
(04:14):
month old made something. Are you trusting that you have?
You ever seen those videos with kids go out and
put dirt and make a dirt pie and they you
don't know what he put in there.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
Very fortunately my wife was hands on and not you know,
measuring out the ingredients and all that fun stuff. But
you know, it was more of an in spirit. He
made them all by himself, so but he did a
bang up job and they were quite delicious. So I'm
very very happy this morning. It was a really fun weekend. Obviously,
(04:46):
we're only halfway through. But yesterday was the Father Son
Camp at Kentucky Facilities with Mark Pove and you know,
got to meet the players for the first time and
kind of see them interact and.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Move around and take it way back and all those things.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Just you know, it was a very feel good day
for camp season getting rolling and yeah, so we're vibes
are very good on this.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Beautiful Sunday morning. Well let's start off with this because
it was a whole week ago, so I don't remember
the specifics. I know it was heartbreaking, and we're going
to get into that a little bit. But what was
your take? Our baseball team did win the first game,
because last week we got off early and our baseball
team had a game. They won the first game, then
(05:31):
they had to play Clemson or they played West Virginia
Clemson first. Clemson. We beat Clemson sixteen or four. That's
why we got off the show early because they had
to play Clemson down at Clemson and they had to
beat West Virginia twice to make it to the Super Regional.
And we lost to West Virginia by one run. I'd
(05:51):
feel about that, Jack Pilgrim, or did you not keep
up with that because if you didn't, that's fine as well.
But I don't know, as a player, I think I
may rather to get my butt whoop rather than lose
on a heartbreaker because I think you were you were
right there at the gate and you just didn't open
it and walked through. So I'm know, it just kind
(06:13):
of seemed heartbreaking, uh at one point lost, but then
again they would have to beat West Virginia again to
make it to the next round. Jack.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
Yeah, it was, it was, it was. It was rough.
I we watched it all weekend. It was beautiful weekend,
so I you know, UH was mowing during the first
first game and you know, was listening uh to Darren
Hedrick and he did a great job for the first
one when they absolutely destroyed Clemson, and you know, got
all excited for for game two and and you know
(06:46):
kind of built up all day getting ready for it,
and then I just kind of crumbled down the stretch.
I mean, you you felt, you know, five two separate
five run leads where you feel, you know, we have
you know, we're planning to to you know, play in
the elimination game on Monday, like we're ready to go,
We're ready to you know, move on, and then they
(07:06):
just collapsed there at the very end, and you just
kind of look at the season and go, you know,
you just wanted to get back to the postseason. You
knew that it was kind of a mini rebuild and
the goal would be to.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Bring back the core.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
There's so much talent, you know, headline by by Tyler Bell,
so much talent that you just wanted to bring back
for next season. Kind of saw it as kind of
a bridge year, so to speak, as long as you
could get those guys back. So I think I feel
in hindsight, I feel a lot better about the result,
knowing that we got commitments back from basically all five
(07:41):
of the core guys from that roster, and then got
a couple of big time commitments. Jack Bennet from wk
you committed yesterday, Star Pitcher. You know, just kind of
building out the next year's roster. Things are looking really, really,
really good. So I feel a lot better about the
results sitting here today, knowing what came in the days
to follow that I certainly did Sunday Night, Larry.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Vaugh, how do you feel about Nick Minjie on season
and bat Cats? And I believe it was twelve games
that they lost by one run, which included the game
against West Virginia, which would have it would have been
again it would have been a double elimination. Or yeah,
they would have to beat them twice or even just
the one run. But that kind of sums up the season.
(08:25):
Twelve games that you lose by one Now there's more
than one run games, but they lost by one point
twelve games. Larry Vatt that that surprised you about the season,
Nick and the guy who's upset or they'll take it
me myself, I would be upset. But then again, I repeat,
they would have to beat West Virginia another time to
(08:47):
actually advance.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Yeah, it's very frustrating. It seemed like there's more than twelve,
and I know there was a lot more games.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
It may have been, you know, I'm.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Not saying this seemed that way. Maybe because there was
a lot more games than twelve. They had to lead
in and then and then lost, so they just they
just couldn't quite finish games this year. You could say, well,
bullpen couldn't hold it.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
But on the other hand, if.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
You lose but one, if you score two more, you
win too. So I mean there's always a lot of
ways to look at it, but I think, and I'm
sure because Bo was working it, if there's never been
I think the game that they that ended their season
was the most frustrating of all because when you're up
five runs, you have two outs in the eighth inning
(09:30):
and you're still up five runs or six runs, whatever
it was, and you let that game get away because
they put up such that went on and scored enough
runs at inning to beat you. That's one you think
about for a long time. But as Jack was mentioning,
they've got a really good nucleus coming back, or anticipated
they're going to have a really good nucleus coming back,
(09:50):
and they've already started doing some pretty good work in
the transfer portal, but they need to do a little
bit more work to both with that pitching staff for
next year.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Lar baseball, because you and Jack sound so optimistic. Baseball
is not like basketball and football. Huh, when you if
you got a commitment, they're probably coming back, is not
they don't have to do men, you don't have to
re recruit guys every year, or are they pretty solid
on who's coming back, because you you sound like there's
little hesitation on guaranteeing that everybody was returning.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yeah, even Nick said that after they lost that you
have to just depending on what happens with the draft
and what happens with the transferred portal. He thought they
could be really good. And he wasn't meaning just with
who they could bring in. He was talking about who
they could keep from losing. And I know James McCoy,
who's one of the stars at their World Series team,
he's announced that he's going into the transfer portal. But
(10:44):
I don't think and may Jack make correct me, I
don't think there's been any other player of huge significance
that I know of off the team yet that is
announced he's going into the portal, and several have announced
they are staying.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
Jack here, you don't have any No, McCoy is the
only guy in the ave and watching that very closely.
That the portal opened June second, So you know, every
every passing day you've just been kind of waiting for,
you know, the big bomb to drop, like, oh man, that.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Was the one we couldn't afford to lose.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
And that's why you know two days ago that announcement
on Friday, that you know that just that that main
five all coming back just like we'll shoot there.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I mean, that's that's.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Kind of all you you you really were banking on
and really needed all five of those guys. And now,
as Larry said, now it's just about bolstering the pitching
staff and you know, continuing to load.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Up on on portal editions.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
They've done a really good job with, you know, adding
some in state, you know, portal guys with the pitching staff,
but you know, plenty of more work to do. But
you do feel so much better going into you know,
the off season and going in the next season just
knowing knowing again that it was you know, you knew
that there was gonna be a rebuild last year.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Hated the twelve one one run losses like that.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
That was a lot of those were inexcusable, and you know,
you hated the way the West Virginia game finished, but
you just kind of looked at it like, Okay, well,
if it means that next year is going to be
bigger and stronger, and these guys are learning from these,
you know, absolute heartbreakers and how to respond to those.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
You know, you feel so much better about a return.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
To Omaha next season, knowing that even you know, a
regional final is certainly nothing to scoff at.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Bo before we go to break. Because Larry Loarry Vault STATEIU.
You were the one on the boards for the game.
How was it in studio as the wheels fell off
down the stretch for the Cats? What was your take
on it?
Speaker 6 (12:40):
I'll tell you how things were at home, because I
wasn't part.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Of that game.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
I thought Sunday night, I did the first one and
I was almost sick enough in the head to stay
all day, which would have put me here from six
thirty am until eleven pm Sunday night, and I thought,
you know what, I'm going home. I'm done, and I'm glad.
I decided to go home because I was mad. I
(13:04):
was mad that they lost to West Virginia. Who knows
that the pitching would have held up on Monday if
they had to play West Virginia one more time. But
I made this point on Monday to somebody at lunch,
was sit around, we were talking about baseball. We're all
upset about this, and I made the comment, here we
are on a Monday morning, Monday afternoon, and we are
(13:26):
complaining and we're whining, and we're just freaking out that
baseball lost to West Virginia like this, we're just like
visibly shaken and frustrated and mad because as opposed to
last year or maybe the year before, I wasn't upset
about a UK baseball loss on a Monday morning. You
(13:49):
see what I'm saying. Do you understand like I actually
care about UK baseball?
Speaker 2 (13:55):
That makes sense? You can get a yeah, that makes sense.
Speaker 6 (13:59):
What went wrong and what happened and everything. And I said, look,
as fans, we care about UK baseball, it's relevant. As
a UK fan, I'm upset, I'm mad. I'm glad I
wasn't in the studio to watch that implosion because the
studio probably would have been broken by the time I
would have got out of here on Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
See there, you can't be tearing stuff up. That's the
Barnharter fac Give Barnheart a raise when you got bow
and everybody in the state of Kentucky upset on a
Monday morning about a loss, because they could have been
upset on Monday evening. I repeat again, they would have
to be West Virginia twice. So. But Barnhart has put
together some great coaches and great programs and This is
(14:39):
a great program. We would continue this show after this.

Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talking Anthony D.
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilberm. Stockyards Bank
has been your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four,
so head on over to syb dot com for all
your banking and financial needs. Jack Pilgrim, we were talking about,
(15:18):
you know, the anger of UK Baseball or just the
disappointment of UK Baseball not making it to an elimination
game on Monday. But there are some things you are
doing this weekend. And I did not realize. And I
don't know if people are angered at this point, because
(15:40):
in fifty two years you lose forty five of the times.
I'm not sure if it's something to really be angered about.
But I did not realize Indiana was that much better
than the state of Kentucky in high school basketball. You
have a reason why and what did what did you
witness in the Indianapolis? So it was a two each
(16:02):
year the annual series.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
It's one game in Lexington or you know, surrounding area,
and then one one in Indianapolis. So there's a Kentucky
game and there's an Indiana game and they play back
to bag days. So was the Friday one was at
Lexington Catholic. So that's kind of what made it cool
when you know Malachi is playing with Jalen Low, Denzel Aberdeen,
(16:27):
Jaden Quainton's, Reese Potter, Jasper Johnson, trentoah All showed up
to watch and support him. Uh So, yeah, it was
it was his It was Malachi's last game in high school,
if you will, before he begins his time at Kentucky.
So it was a really cool event that you know,
Kentucky led for three quarters of the game, I mean
(16:50):
basically all the way up until the last four you know,
three four minutes and then just collapse down down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
You know, we're talking about UK baseball collapsing.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Kind of just story of the show thus far, and
just get a couple of big shots by Indiana, you know,
Braylan Mullins, who Kentucky was going after pretty hard.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
And there was a kind of a time.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
Where we thought that he was going to be the
guard to pair with Malachi Morno, the AAAU teammates on
the three SSB B circuit. Pope wanted him bad, and
then you know, Jasper ended up and they ramped things
up with Jasper ended up getting him, and it kind
of pushed pushed Braylan out. But Braylan hit some big
shots and it's kind of head to head battle between
(17:32):
former AAU teammates. So yeah, it was another heartbreaker and
a string of heartbreakers for Kentucky fans, but you know
it's it's an all star game, so you can't get
too too heartbroken over that is more of the Malachoi
played well twenty two and fourteen for him individually, but
the bigger story was his his teammates were all there
to support.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Him, and that was pretty cool. Vitamin run this back
by me again. You kind of glossed over it. So
they played Friday in Lexington and then and they went
in Saturday and playing in Annapolis yesterday. So they the
same squads played back back like they don't adding, they
don't adjust anything. It's just one day we play here.
Then the same squads played back the other.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Way correct, which is why Malachi didn't go all the
way up to Indianapolis and play in the second one.
It was, hey, you know, I'm this is my All
Star game, this is my appearance in the prestigious, historic event.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
And that's you know, that's that's all. That's that's necessary.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
And like he yesterday was the father Son camp and
he was you know, out and about all day. They
they did their team bonding stuff, you know, and that
now is the time to turn the page and push,
you know, toward the college career and developing and working
out and doing those things. Yesterday was the first day
that all thirteen teammates were on campus. I'm still missing
(18:53):
Andrea Yellovich, but we got Walker Horn back. That was
a kind of a new development that we saw yesterday
with him around those facility. But the entire team, minus
Andrea Yellovich was in town, so I'm sure. You know,
after the camp season wrapped up, it was about Pope
gathering his guys and saying, okay, here, here's your group,
here's your you know, you guys better get to know
(19:13):
each other over the next and no one love each
other over the next year, because you know, you know,
we got we got business, take care, we got a
banner to go hang. So I think Malachi saw that
and knew that, Okay, I'm going to be one and
done in this event and just kind of cut our
losses for a game two.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
And it's exactly what the result looked like, where.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Indiana very comfortable, comfortably beat Kentucky in round two up
in Indianapolis.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Larry vaud we got a little We got about a minute,
but I just wanted to get your opinion that is
Kentucky just not take the All Star the Indiana versus
Kentucky All Star Game seriously? Or is just Indiana better?
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Well? They swept the girls.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
They have been beating the girls for a wow, haven't they.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
No, this is the first time they've had a sweep
in a while.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Okay, so they.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
As a kid, Johnson went out with this added to
her legacy. Is probably the best high school female basketball
player ever in the state of Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Leading the team to two wins. And then Peyton Bradley
of Mead County also had two really big games. She's
at Louisville Saurny Johnson's and LSU Sagny. So but so
on the girls side that they won two games.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Huh, Well, see there you go. This is girls basketball state.
It's not a football lower basketball men's basketball state. It's
a girl's basketball state. If you like to join the
show A five nine two eight zero two two eight

Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vapp. This hour
Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought you by a country Boy.
And when I was at West End A's yesterday, I
was drinking a country boy, So thank you d H
and those guys over there at Country Boy Brewing. Larry Vaughan,
(21:12):
I don't know if you saw, and you know I've
said on this show. Jack Pilgrim may know this, but
he he may not have followed me for a long
time because he's so young. But on this show I've
said I thought sports are fixed. I've been saying that
for years and I still think sports are fixed. I'm
sorry for any sports fans who's listened to a radio
show where the sports are fixed. We can talk off
(21:34):
air and I can give you some reasoning why I
think it's fixed. But one thing, I don't think animals
really get into the whole fixing business because I don't
think they know any better competitions competition in them. And
I'm Larry Vadom speaking of the Belmont Stakes. Do you
think that the script could have Ben wrote any different
for Sovereignty and Journalism to come down to the end
(21:56):
to kind of edge 'll they both got if they
were going for the Triple crime, they both had a
win that this was kind of deciding factor. Do you
think that was scripted or you just think it was
just good. That's just good old horse racing.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
I think they're just the two best horses in this group,
and that's the way you kind of thought this race
was gonna go, and the way it did, and it
gave horse racing got a little bit of a boost
that Sovereignty won two thirds of the Triple Crown, a
little bit a lot given a lot bigger boosts. We
could have won all three, but got two out of
the three. So and at least the Bellboy had a
(22:32):
really really exciting finish.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
So hopefully we get horse racing a little.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Bump, because a lot of times in the rest of
the year it could use a bump.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Well, sovereignty, the sovereignty, does it deserve, maybe some some boasting,
some bragging rice because he's two and oh or I
don't know if it's here or or But the horses
two and oh, so they couldn't have so they could
essentially say that I didn't run one of them. That's
(23:00):
why that's the only reason I didn't have a triple crown.
They could have that, they could have that in their pocket.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
But they could have run three of them if they
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
But no, they said the horse was hurt. So horses
don't play hurt because isn't it bad? If isn't that like,
isn't that abuse to an animal if they if you
race them while they're hurt?
Speaker 7 (23:21):
It is.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
But I'm saying the opportunity was there for them to
be able to be in a one like they were
banned all right, right, right right right not to run.
So what I meant the race was open, So now
you don't there's out. They joined a pretty limited list
of horses that have won two events and not won
the triple crown. But no, you can't call it a
(23:42):
triple crowd because they won two and didn't and didn't
race any other because of an injury.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Jack Pilgrim, I, I kind of agree with Larry a
little bit, but I think there's a little wigger room
for sovereignty to say, look, if I would have if
I would have ran. That's what my little brother does
when we have family functions, and he always tells me
how much better he was than me. And I said,
you could have just proved it at any point in
your life and he said, well, I didn't play in college.
I didn't know. Yeah, there's probably a reason you didn't.
So But so Larry Vault kind of feels like and Jack,
(24:10):
I don't know if he saw the race or not.
It was interesting to me because sovereignty and journalism, even
when they were in third and fourth place and not
in the back of the pack, but in the middle
of the pack, it seemed like they were both checking
each other out, like they were both waiting for each
other to make their run. And I just thought that
was interesting because I didn't know animals had that intelligence
that this is who I'm competing against. So let me
(24:32):
you know, let me stay with them, and as Larry said,
when he came down to the stretch, they knew it
was going to be a one on one match and
it was very interesting. Jack, what was your take on
on the bill man.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
It reminds me of Cal after the COVID year when
he just used that as an example to be like, well,
you'll never be able to disprove that we were you know,
we were going to go win the national championship. We
had a t and oos capable winning it. So it
almost became like a thing of legend where that team
with you know, Manuel Quickly and Nick Richards and all
(25:05):
those guys that they were going to go on and
then you know, going to run and win win the
national championship with Tyre Smax and all all those guys.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
So it's the same thing sovereignty can do.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
It be like, well, you know I had I run,
I would have been a triple Crown winner. So I
feel like I've lived this. But now it was a
cool race, very exciting to have the exact same one
two three trifectas the Kentucky Derby finished the exact same way.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
But yes, it was a very fun one. I always
loved when you.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
Know, just the sport gets you know, put under a
national microscope, international microscope, and you know it all starts
with our state and just the you know how important
Kentucky is to that sport and how it all kind
of is a trickle down effect of Okay, well this
this happened at the derby, and now because that happened,
(25:53):
then this is the impact that it makes today. It
was just very cool to see all that unfold and
just very very excited finished that. You know, journalism is
an awesome horse and you know, deserving as well. But
I was, I was, I was rooting for sovereignty to
kind of pull it off and you know, shut some
people up that that he wasn't you know, capable of
doing this very fun Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening race to watch.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Bo before we get to the big Ass Fans hotline.
If you want to get on the big Ass Fans hotline,
it's eight five nine to eight zero two to eight
seven eight five nine to eight zero. Cats. Bo, you
did not watch the race, but you hit the you
hit the trifactor because you've seen this before.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
I haven't watched the race yet. I was stuck at
a wedding and a reception all day yesterday in for sales,
Larry I got caught in the rain as well. I
was purposely trying to hold off from watching the Belmont yesterday.
I still haven't watched it now, sorry for ruin before.
You don't worry about it, because the first thing I did,
(26:54):
which was the most important part of the day, was
I checked my tvg account and I hit the super
fan on the Belmont. So that was the nice gift
when I got home from the wedding yesterday. But I
still haven't watched it. But it played out the way
I thought it would have.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
It really did bo.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
It must have been quite a wedding because I did
for sales for eight hours.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
It never rained. It for sales yesterday.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Oh, it came down yesterday. I'm surprised nobody got electrocuted
because it was outdoors too.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Who's our chief meteorologist, Chris Bailey? Isn't Chris? Yes, Yes,
w k y T he said, But he said on
the news that it would hit the city, but or
it hit the state. But some parts may feel it
and some parts might not feel it at all.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Well, he's part that felt it was about a mile
outside of downtown for sales because it came down big time.
And I was actually dj in the wedding. It was
wedding gift to my friend. His son got married and
they asked me to dj and see the happy to
do that. But I'm just glad I did not get
(28:04):
electrocuted yesterday. We had a lot going on.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
I'm glad you didn't get elected.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
But the wedding went great because the rain held off
until after the ceremony, okay, and I had all my
musical cues. You want to talk about stressful because you
don't want to ruin anybody's wedding. So when you're in
charge of doing the music, making sure everybody's miked up,
and the timing and everything, I was really really nervous
for about fifteen twenty minutes. This family caused me more
(28:33):
stress than I've had in the last three weeks.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Well, I'm glad you, but it went great. I'm glad
you didn't get electrocuted because then we wouldn't have anybody
produce this show today.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Who knows I might get electrocuted here now I'm kidding.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Thanks for not getting Electriccute, Let's get over to the
big ass Fans Hotline and see what John Short has
to say. Good morning, John Short, You are a great American.
What do you got for us?
Speaker 8 (28:57):
Well, well, I was ius about so he's freaking telling
you a little bit about back next year and we'll
have a much better year in baseball in softball.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
I think I think you are right. I think our
baseball team had an up and down season, pretty inconsistent,
but I'm with you. I think they will bounce back.
Rachel Lawson. Our has got faith in her that she's
going to turn this thing around, and I think she's
changed the mindset and the culture of the softball team.
So hopefully it'll take a year or two for her
to you know, get things implemented the way she wants them.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
Man, in prediction, the College World City thinks you're being tall.
He Vana built Georgia, Alabama, resplectionized in Missi and CB
save for softball.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
In baseball, I would I'm not surprised that you would
like to see in law Le sec uh World Series.
That does not surprise me one bit, mister Short.
Speaker 8 (29:49):
I know, and I hope Murray State meets me sixty
day in baseball. That'd be great.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Mury State. Mrgy State plays Duke.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
You said today, Yeah, I think it in baseball, is
that right?
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Evault?
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Yeah, beat them yesterday seventy four. I believe it is.
But for he's kind of change to come back today
and if they win, force the third game to see
who go to the College World Series.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
I didn't want to well, I didn't watch any horse
racing history. So I have sexties.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
One.
Speaker 8 (30:22):
I didn't watching the horse racing history. I didn't.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Well, I ruined, I will ruin it for you to sovereignty.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
One.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Uh yeah, pretty good margin a couple a couple of lengths,
but uh yeah, so you can. You should go check
it out. Though I'm really not a horse guy. But
just because of all the anticipation that built up for
this race, I think it it gave you everything you
would expect.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
It at least. So and Rock a couple months away
to football for the season begins.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
And I'm not sure how optimistic and how much our
fan base is is prepared for that, John short So
it is only a couple months, but there's a lot
of work to be done. And yeah, there's a lot
of anks. I will say that.
Speaker 8 (31:10):
Just take in the playoffs can tell you Vanderbilt, Georgia, Alabama,
Fauvern Sashline, Mississippi, Missippi State, Arkansas, Sechelina and Texas at Tay,
saying in the football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I will say this, John Short, I will say this.
I'm usually I love your optimistic, your optimism most of
the time, and I do think that it is pretty
I guess inflating like I think it makes you feeling
really good inside. This year, I'm not so much gonna
let you call twelve and oh or what fourteen and oh, well,
(31:46):
fifteen and oh for us to get to the championship.
I can't allow you to do that this year, John Short,
I just cannot. But I do appreciate your support. Welcome alrighty,
John Short. We appreciate your car. You are a great
to American, my friend. Before we go to break, Larry Vaught,
I did want to ask you, John Short. It says
(32:07):
a couple months away. We're going to talk football a
little bit more later in the show, before or after,
you know, we get Jack pilgrimoffcause we're gonna get some
updates on UK basketball. There is some revenue sharing that
that has become official. So we're gonna talk a little
bit about it, but I did want to before we
go to break Larry Vaught, is there anything football wise
(32:29):
it makes you feel any better? Are you still just
on the fence. Nothing that has happened right.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
No, No, noteshing's happened this week to change anything from
what we talked about next week or last week, and
I don't think anything will until that last Saturday and August.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Want to get to see the team play.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Okay, I'm just checking because John Shore was talking about
Kentucky in playoffs, so if I maybe he read something
that or saw something that you might have saw that,
you may think that's a playoff team as well.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
No, I'm not quite on that optimistic train that John
is on. But again, we still got too much, so
we'll see what happens when they actually get to playing.
But it's just hard at this time, there's so many
unknowns on the team to really know what to expect
or not expect. You're just kind of anticipating, and right
now the anticipation level is not overly high. I don't
(33:25):
think among the general UK fan base.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
We'll continue this conversation after this. You are listening to
Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports stock On News Radio six
thirty WLP.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Welcome back, Stockyards Bank, Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught. We're gonna
hop right over to the big Ass Fans Hotline because
we'll hold off on our other subject subject because we
have Frank on the line. Good morning, Frank. What do
you got for us?
Speaker 7 (34:00):
Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
How you doing?
Speaker 7 (34:02):
First time caller from northwest Indiana. Well, we appreciate it,
you asked him. Yeah, I really enjoyed listening to your
Guys show. You asked a question, but you didn't get
an answer. Earlier, you asked quiet Indiana high school basketball
beating in Kentucky forty four out of fifty times, and
you didn't get an answer. And I'm not sure about
(34:25):
the answer. But last night's game at Indianapolis was one
hundred and five to ninety two. It was close for
a while to the end, but seventeen points is a
lot of difference.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
So you said, do you think that do you agree
with that? Maybe Kentucky doesn't put an effort into it.
Are you you still on the fence.
Speaker 7 (34:45):
I well, I grew up down in eastern Kentucky for
sixteen years and I've been up here for over fifty
and I'm very involved with the high schools, and boy,
they start early up here. It they're so passionate. And
I know Kentucky is huge UK fan, but it's unbelievable
up here. You go to a high school game and
(35:06):
the five thousand seat state schools are just packed, standing,
people standing.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
I got a buddy from Tail City up there, it's yeah,
and he and he, he's told me some of the
players that played in the NBA and some legends, and
Indiana does have a pretty rich tradition up there. I
didn't realize that because I'm never even was interested in
Indiana in general, but uh, you all do have some
high school stars that are just absolute legends at every level. Yeah,
(35:34):
they they really, they really push it up here.
Speaker 7 (35:37):
You know, football isn't that great and basketball up here
is just crazy. And when I grew up Kentucky, I
thought Kentucky was the king and it's great, but boy,
Indiana has got some passion for basketball, and if I
get it, if I get a chance, I would like
to pass on some good news about your baseball program.
Please do baseball?
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Please do?
Speaker 7 (35:59):
Uh? You you have a recruit coming uh a year
after next. He's a number one rated player in Indiana.
He's committed to UK. He plays for my high school team.
Rob's are Nicky's his name, outfielder and pitcher.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
A really really great kid and.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
A really good hitter. Man.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
He can hit the ball.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
What was your what is your high school? What are you?
What is you? And Rob's high school? Give him a
shout out?
Speaker 7 (36:29):
Uh, Chesterton, Indiana right up here by Lake Michigan, way
way up north, right on the lake.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
All right, that you got for us? Yeah, Rob's aar
Nikki do what is that all you got for us? Yeah?
That'd be great.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
I just was curious about the high school basketball teams, Uh,
Indiana versus Kentucky. It's really been dominant for Indiana for
many years.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I'm going to have We're gonna have j I'm gonna
have Jack elaborate trying to get you an answer once
we Hey, thank you very much.
Speaker 7 (37:01):
Good have a great day, guys.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Thanksful the call, Frank, It's a great call. First really quickly, Well,
will Al ask Larry when we come back from break
if you've heard of you know anything about Robs or
Nikki because you do follow those things. But Jack Pilgrim
really quickly before we go to break, you didn't give
an answer when I asked you earlier. Frank is kind
of interested. Is Indiana basket just just outright because you're
(37:25):
a Kentucky guy, you cover a lot of sports. Is
Indiana just better than Kentucky high school basketball wise?
Speaker 5 (37:32):
Guys? My non answer was the answer that there was intentional. Yes,
I beat around the bush on things that I don't
want to talk about.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Yes, that was exactly the answer. Yeah, in the Ina
basketball just you know, more deeper talent.
Speaker 5 (37:51):
I think that Kentucky probably matches the top end talent
year after year, but I manned the depth just so many.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
I mean you just look at the rosters. I mean Indiana, guys,
just is you know.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Turn out D one after D one after D one
that you know it really starts to stack up. And
I mean we saw these two games where you know,
Friday and Saturday game is closed if not Kentucky leading
for a lot of it, and then just down the
stretch that the depth wins out. So yeah, a very answer.
(38:24):
I didn't want to give because it would be admitting
that Kentucky is not as good at somebody else at something.
But yes, it's unfortunately Indiana is very good at what
they do and there's a reason why the record is
what it is.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Larry, before we go to break, is it absolute for
you too? Or are you are you going to hold
you hold your horses and assume that Kentucky may have
a chance.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Numbers usually don't lie. Jack said, you could try to
spin it however you want to, but the numbers are
what they are. So if you're looking from the Kentucky perspective,
there's not what you can say is in Indiana just
beat us and has been just.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Beating us absolutely. When we come back, we're going to
talk a little bit about the revenue sharing and I
want to find a little bit more about Rob's our
Nikki from I believe it was Chesterton High School up
in northern Indiana. So yeah, we had a whole lot
of other things to talk about. We haven't even talked
about father and son basketball camp and other things. We
(39:25):
got guests lined up, so stay with us. We'll continue
this show when we come back. You're listening to Stockyards
Bank Sunday wanted sports talk on news radio six thirty
