Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vault, coming to you from Clark's
Main Street Market Studios and beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky. And
we're now proud to be joined by Kentucky's favorite son,
Kentucky's mister Basketball national champion, Maysville's finest Darius Miller.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Good morning, Darius, Good morning, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
How y'all doing.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
We're doing pretty good. We're doing pretty good.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I gave you a couple of titles, but I know
it's been a long time since you touch was been
a long time since I've seen you touch of basketball.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
But what are the titles you carry now?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
You know? Entrepreneur Dad. Yeah, I spent a lot of
time with my family. You know, playing basketball caused me
to miss a lot of different things and be away
from the family a lot. So Raley, now, I'm really
trying to be intentional, you know, about spending town with
my family, being at all my kids events, helping them
to grow, and then on the other side of that,
(01:06):
just exploring different business opportunities, trying to push myself to
grow in a lot of different areas and having fun
with it all, honestly.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And Larry Vaught explained to me that there's some things
going on. I've been back in Lexington since five, probably
a little bit before you came in, and these things
going on to KB which was the KBA at one
point in time. KBC name has changed a bunch of times.
You have your are you have your hands in over
there as well? What do you got going on over there?
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah, over at the sports Center which is out by
the mall across from Dix and the movie theater that's
out there. Me and a couple of guys. It's actually
the crew that used to run the KBA. We jumped
in and we're being heavily involved in the sports center
out there now. I just had an interview the other
day and I kind of jumped the gun on the
(01:58):
name changed. I was excited to get the news out. So,
you know, we got to go and do the you know,
our proper due diligence and get make sure everything is
right on our end and everything is right with the
other group, and they okay at the owners of the
official building. But yeah, we're out there. We're trying to
build up the basketball brands out there. You know, and
you know, just get to the community. I remember the
(02:21):
KBA and the huge effect they had on me being
up to go up being able to go up here
and play you know, state tournament, play against some really
good competition, play for some really good coaches, and you know,
that's just trying to that's kind of what we're trying
to build out at the Sports Center now, just basketball
tournament camps. Really want to get the former UK players
back in town so they can touch on the community, love,
(02:44):
get some love back to the community, you know, and yeah,
we're really excited about it.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
So Darius Will, that'd be back like in the day
when it used to be that all the high school
teams to go over there and have summer late games
and play and compete and say what your book Male
and Female? Is that kind of some of what you're
amy to get going again with the facility.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, yeah, I feel like the culture of basketball just
was there was a lot of opportunity, you know, back
when I was coming up for me to go just
around the state and play against a really good competition,
and there were gyms like the KBA, and that's that's
kind of what we're trying to replicate. Here, we're trying
to give, like you said, men and women, girls and boys,
(03:27):
just a place where they can come in, they can
get some good coaching, they could play, you get some
good competition, and just build up the basketball in that gym.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Daris, do you think I know when I was younger,
and I mean even now, you probably hear it all
the time, people always talking about he went to the
Rutgers Park, like that was your initiation. If you played
the Rutgers, then you played some good basketball. And when
I first moved down here, back down here in early
two thousands, KBA was the place anybody. Yeah, we played
out the KBA. We played on the main court. Do
you think the game fell off in Central Tuck you're
(04:00):
Lexington because of not having that center and that that
place where everybody knew you could get a good game
and where you're gonna be on front stage.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
I don't know if it fell off, but I definitely
think we're missing that for sure. I think there was
a huge opportunity, you know, out at the KBA to
go out there and like you said, just showcase your abilities.
And then there was a lot of people that came
out and watched and you got to push yourself playing
against good competition. There were a lot of good trainers,
a lot of good coaches out there. You know, they
gave back to the community and gave kids a place
(04:34):
to go, uh to learn the game. And with me
being extremely passionate about that, you know, the game took
me from Maysville, Kentucky, a small town, to Germany, to
New Orleans to Oklahoma City, you know what I mean,
all around the world and allowed me to get some
great experiences. So we want to try to, you know,
allow that opportunity to people in this community, and you know,
(04:55):
the surrounding community is also.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
There's it's kind of hard to believe it's been thirteen
years since you won the championship at Kentucky. As you said,
you've had a lot go on since then. But just
looking back now at your days at Kentucky, when we
were talking about before you came out, just some of
the players you played with during your time at Kentucky.
(05:19):
What kind of memories do you still have about that,
and do you ever sometimes still kind of shake your
head you think of that list of guys that you
played with there in your four years at Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Definitely definitely. I was blessed and fortunately to play on
some great teams, some great players, some great coaches, and
the amount of talent that was here while I was
here was just it was ridiculous. And everybody knows it's
like the guys that I got to play with, they
really helped me to grow and develop my game. So
I was really fortunate to be on those teams that
(05:51):
I definitely looked back and you know, reminisc from time
to time on just the amount of greatness that was
around UK while I was there, for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
And I was you talking about earlier about getting getting
the center back up and guys, former players getting back out,
getting having their influence running camps. Is this something that
you the guys are sitting there waiting to participate in
or you want to create it so that these guys
would have the interests to come back.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Which one is first?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Is it we get it established or do you got
guys who's already ready to partake as soon as you
guys get it get established.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah, I think I think guys are ready. And that's
one of just one outlet that we have. We work
really closely with a lot familiar the UK alumni team
that plays in the TVT. They have a free camp
coming up on July the twelfth. You know, we're trying
to get back to the community and there'll be a
lot of alumni guys, you know, they're that's able to
participate in that and just different events like that. You know,
(06:52):
I feel like the guys are definitely ready to come
back and get to the community. These are guys that
love the city of Lexington. This city has been really
good to them. As everybody knows, the support that you
get well when you play at Kentucky is is probably
the best in the world, at least from my experience,
you know what I mean. So I think guys would
love to come back and do camps and you know,
(07:14):
be involved in the community from time to time. And
there are some guys that have moved back, you know
that I've been talking to that I think would or not.
I think I know are ready to you know, hop
in and hop on that other side of basketball to
do some coach and some training and some camps.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
But Darius, speaking of the TVT, you've got to your
former Kentucky teammates. They're gonna be playing in the tv
T this this summer. When Toron Lamb and DeAndre Liggins
just just tell us a little bit about them and
if you're excited about watching them, and what do you
think they're going to add to that team this year?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Oh yeah, two great players, two great players. D Lamb
incredible score, very efficient.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
You know, he's a guy that I think can bring
a lot of buckets to the team. Whenever we need
somebody to go out and get a bucket, he's one
of the guys that we can look to to do that.
And then DeAndre also skilled offensively and just a dog
like Uh, he's one of the best defensive players you
know that I played with in my in my career,
(08:20):
and I think he's just really good at at leading
the team, going out and being a blue guy, you know,
really giving the team whatever they need in the moment.
So I think these two guys, you know, they've had long,
long pro careers. They're pretty they're pretty, Uh, they're you know,
they're old in their journey. No offense to them, but
they they're gonna come out and play winning basketball. And
(08:41):
you know, they know they know how to hop into
a team and add to it at value and and
you know, make them contenders and are you a tv T.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Are you a TVT at the guys are exactly what
is your role with TVT because as you said, it
was a lot familiar, so like we saw you around
a lot last year. Are you officially part of that
or you just kind of unofficially you can't stay away?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Oh yeah, it's unofficial. Twenty is like a brother. You know,
we played on the same AAU team growing up. For
a minute. I've known him since even before the kntesting days.
I was super excited that he hopped in and was
a part of the TVP because that's a growing, you
know tournament. I think there's a lot of potential there
and I love the idea of you know, alumni guys
having an opportunity to come back and play in front
(09:27):
of the fans again, you know, get loved knowing by
the fans. As I said earlier, the support from the
fans is like no other. So giving the guys an
opportunity to come back and experience that again, I think
it's amazing. So honestly, honestly, I just hop in wherever
I can and you know, try to bring value wherever
they need it.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Darius, did you play with Chris Lofton and Terrence Commodore
and high school did you play with either one of those?
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah, I played with Chris. I played with Chris my
eighth grade year.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
And you couldn't you couldn't recruit him over there to
play with the lo familiar Are that that m colors
just don't go together? Blue and orangs don't go together.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
I'm still trying. I'm still trying. I would love for
him to play, for sure. We're trying to work something out.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Are you are you?
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Have you hung up to Clevesland? Why can't we see
you out there?
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Right now, I've.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Been trying to, uh, you know, trying different business opportunities.
So I'm not even in I'm not even in that
shape right now. Maybe at some point, you know, I'll
make a switch and uh, you know, trying to get
myself back to that point, But right now now I'm
not even I'm not even thinking about it. Honestly. I
like being on the other side. Uh. It's been a
lot of fun watching the guys get out and compete,
(10:46):
you know, with that with the Kentucky uh you know,
logo on them again, seeing the fans support them. But no, no,
I'm not. I'm not there yet.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Hey, Darius.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
Last year, when you were at the TV Games at
rep Arena, I was in the stands and I had
a poster of you and somebody pointed it out, tapped
you on the shoulder and pointed over towards me, and
you made a u turn around from the tunnel, came
back up to me and signed that poster. And I
just wanted to say thank you. And you know, that's
what it's all about, you taking the time for Kentucky fans,
(11:18):
taking time out of your whatever's going on at that moment,
and spending some time with the fans. I just wanted
to say thank you for signing that poster. My question
for you is you have one minute to talk to
the new crop of Kentucky basketball players coming in under
Mark Pope's system.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
One minute.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
What do you say to them?
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Just be president man, embrace the opportunity. The University of
Kentucky is, you know, one of the one of the best,
if not the best, university in the world. You know,
so just come in and have fun. Half fun. It's
gonna feel like a lot of pressure times, especially this team.
I feel like they have a great team and talent.
(12:00):
There's gonna be expectations put on you, but it's still basketball.
You know, it's still basketball. I feel like you have
great leadership and Coach Pope. Uh so he's gonna put
them in a you know, a situation where they can
be successful. So go in every day, try to get better,
figure out whatever your process is to where you can
get better every single day, and embrace it. And like
I said, just have fun. At the University of Kentucky.
(12:23):
It's some of the best basketball that I've ever got
to play. It's some of the best experience on the
basketball court that I've ever had, and some of the
best fans that I've ever been able to, you know,
play in front of. So it's it's just an amazing experience.
And I wish you all the best.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
And Darius, how does it? What are your impressions of
Mark Pope.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I love his approach to the game. I feel like
he's like a mad scientist in the way you know,
he's uh, he's he's got it down to a science.
And I can really appreciate that as a guy who
studies a game, who really appreciates guys who study the game.
I love that about him. I feel like he paid
attention to the small details. There's been plenty of games
(13:06):
we've seen, you know, us struggling the first half and
then in the second half they come out and look
like a totally different team. And I think that's a
not to his leadership and his coaching ability. But I'm
a fan. I love I love I love I love
coach Cala As everybody knows. He's done a lot for me,
and I wish he would have ended on better terms.
(13:27):
But I think if he had to go, I think
this is this is the next best best thing. A
former player who understands the expectations, understands, you know, the
University of Kentucky, understands how big the program is to
everybody in the city and the state. So I love it.
I love what he's brought to the to the university
so far, for sure.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
And here's my last question for you, is I just
kind of wanted to I know you said you were
dabbling in the business. We're talking about the sports center.
What do you guys have a target date for the
sports center? Being where you wanted to be in an
up and established and where can people follow the progress
and get information about the Sports Center.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, so right now we have like I said,
I kind of I'm being hesitant, but we were calling
it the the Alumni Center. That's just kind of a
nod to you guys. Remember the Alumni Center, you know
that was down on campus where you know all the
all the players used to go play open gym, have
a little workouts, do you know, do the the extra work.
(14:29):
That's kind of the mentality that we wanted to bring
to this gym. Uh So, we have the Alumni Center
on Instagram and we'll be sending out the website, putting
the website out for everybody to go to. But you
know it's open. We we we take court rentals already.
We have some camps, like I said, coming up with
the Lot Familiar TBT team. We also have some other
(14:50):
camp schedule just from our brands that that would be
coming in July. And uh yeah, we're already. We're already
in there and working. We're just gonna slowly grab we
make changes, you know, as time goes on. Whatever we
think makes sense in the moment, but you'll be able
to see that in real time. Also, we're going to
be very transparent about it and we want the community
(15:12):
to come in and participate in that. You know, this
is a gym for the community, like I said, just
like the KBA was, so we want the community, the
community to be a part of that transition.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Also, Larry Vaut you have anything else, No, just.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Just thanks Terarius for all the great times over the
over the years. And it's uh, you still got the
best smile in the UK basketball player it's ever been there.
So looking forward seeing around the TV T again, Buddy.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
I appreciate it. I can't wait to see everybody, you know,
that's one of my favorite parts. Uh. You know, everybody
in this community supported me so much in my career.
I had a lot of ups and downs, you know
in the community the state of Kentucky. They stuck with
me through all those times. So you know, as I'm
hearing I'm back, I'm trying to give as much as
I can back to the people that support me.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
All Right, Darius, thanks you for joining us this morning.
Wish you all the best.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Ma Man appreciate you. Y'all have a going.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
We will be back after this.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
You are listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning sports Talk
on news radio six thirty WLAP. This is the home
of the Wildcats. Six thirty WLAP Welcome back Stockyards Bank
Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White along with Larry Vaut.
Stockyards Bank is your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and
(16:31):
for so ahead on over to syb dot com for
all your banking and financial needs. Thanks to former UK
basketball player and national champion Darius Miller for joining us
and give us the information about the Alumni Center and
the TBT. His connection with the TBT and twenty Beckham.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
You know what was great about that interview, Yeah, just
the enthusiastic Ask me if I already told you, Yeah,
well yeah, But I want to share this with our audience.
I want to share with Larry is the enthusiasm he
had for everything that he said. You can just tell
he's so excited to be back in Lexington, be a
part of the surrounding atmosphere with TBT and Live Familiar.
(17:18):
I'm just thrilled he's really embracing all this.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
He's been pretty fortunate, and I like the fact that
he's sharing his fortune. As far as experienced knowledge, He's
one of the few mister Kentucky's I know that it's
still really really engaged in the community. I can't and
I don't know Larry made no otherwise, but yeah, he's
involved in every everything there's I keep trying to think
(17:43):
of the mister Kentucky's that actually played here and made
an impact and him read and I don't go back
extremely far. Was Jack Was Jack Gibbons, mister Kentucky?
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Larry I believe he was. Of course he had Anthony
Epps that was a pretty big impact to Kentucky when
he was here.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
I mean in the community after you're playing.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Days though, well, after you're playing Days.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
That's what I'm saying, like kind of still sticking around,
giving back what you've learned from from your experiences.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
I'd have to kind of stop and think about it
for a while, But nothing jump up anymore than what
those do. I'm sure there are some others who were
probably just not thinking about right off. But yeah, Darius
has been really really good. I always was. I'm sure
I always will be because that's just his first chality
is the way he was brought up. And again, anybody
(18:40):
that survived two years under Billy Clyde, God.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, those other experiences, I think you want to talk
about it. He had great things to say. It is funny,
and maybe he's talked to Mark Pope a lot. But
one thing I do remember Mark Pope first getting here,
and he's kind of explained to the players in Big
Blue Nation, is he just kept saying stay in the moment.
And that's one thing I wish I Opula knew when
I played, and that's why I try to instill that
(19:05):
in our listeners about what these guys are going through.
Stay in the moment, because if you blink and you
miss it, you never get it back.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Larry Vault, No, You're don't in the moment, and the
moments go by quickly.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
I will tell you that absolutely.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
And what has went by quickly is his first two
and a half hours. But when we come back with that,
Ben Duncan defensive line edge rusher, fourth star out of
Texas and Warres happy to have him. UK's happy to haveing,
Brad White's happy to have him. He'll be on the
talk to us for a little while. We'll be back
after this. You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning sports
talk on news Radio six thirty WLAP. This is the
(19:43):
home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP. Welcome back Stockyards
Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony Whiteon along with
Larry Vaught. This hour of Sunday Morning Sports Talk is
brought to you by Country Boy Brewing. We are now
proud to be joined by six' five Age, rusher five
(20:06):
four star out Of, Austin, texas Being.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Duncan good, Morning, ben how's it? Going?
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Good morning's going?
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Good so.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Welcome first of, all welcome To Big Blue. Nation that
if you take a second to talk about what wanted
to your decision and then what was the process like
becoming a Future.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
WILDCAT i, MEAN i.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
Really enjoyed coming on my visit WHEN i went up
there about two weeks, ago and that's kind of WHEN i.
Decided but whenever they first offered, ME i was really
excited how they talked to me at the very. BEGINNING
i don't want to SAY i kind of always KNEW
i was going to come To, kentucky BUT i did
a little. BIT i just didn't say. Anything SO i
wanted to, go you, know on some other, visits BUT
(20:49):
i kind of always knew THAT i was GONNA i
was going to commit To. Kentucky and so WHEN i
got on campus and everything went, well all the players are,
good all the meetings were. GOOD i was just, excited
and you, KNOW i was kind of told Coach. Stu
so it was. Funny WHENEVER i, committed we went into
our like meeting with the head coach and all like
the the coaches and it's the kind of like the
big the big meeting on the, visit and like before
(21:11):
they even, STARTED i just kind of committed and it
threw them off because they didn't really have to convince,
me and then Coached steed to like he was he was.
Laughing he's, LIKE i didn't have to go on like
my rant to try and get. You you already. Committed
so it was pretty. FUNNY i got some cool pictures from,
that and, yeah that was that was pretty much my.
Commitment store and.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Stuff and what was your initial attraction to, uh what
was your initial attraction To.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
KENTUCKY i, mean it's it's sec, football you, know that's
the big attraction right. THERE i had some friends that
also were Big kentucky fans who lived by, Me so
WHENEVER i got to, OFFER i think every, day like
if his dad went to, practice he'd be Wearing kentucky.
STUFF i understand then they they they were preaching on.
(21:55):
It they said that this place is like, amazing you,
know very high things to. Day so kind of already
just kept hearing good, things doing good, things and you,
KNOW i JUST i DECIDED i want to be A.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Wildcat then how do you have neighbors there In texas
that Are kentucky?
Speaker 3 (22:11):
FANS i don't.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Know, uh he's my teammate and HE i, mean he's
been A kentucky fan his whole. Life he's he's lived
In kentucky his whole. Life so right AFTER i, committed
his dad texting mind talking about like all the good
stuff and about how some of it LIKE i think
some of the fans, like we're like good friends with his.
(22:35):
Dad so they were asking about me because they KNEW
i lived right by, him so they were asking about
me and stuff like, that and you, KNOW i was
really excited just to be a part of. EVERYTHING i,
MEAN i think he's JUST i think he's just been
like A wildcat and moved down here not too long,
ago and he's just been a.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Fan, okay, man who's, uh who's your early recruit who
did most of the, Communication, well who's your leave Recruiter.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
I'd say it Was Coach, stu but THEN i Think
Coach white WHENEVER i met. HIM i think it was
pretty equal in between. Them BUT i MEAN i had
a lot of calls with both of. Them they kind
of respected my other visits and. Stuff BUT i think
it was both of them pretty. Equally especially on the,
visit it was pretty much just them, too pretty. Equally
But Coach stu was the one now that was like
(23:22):
kind of the. Lead BUT i mean they're pretty.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Equal i'm not gonna SAY i know a whole bunch
About Coach, Stu but what do you think about?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
HIM i, MEAN i Think coach dou is a great.
COACH i think he's been coaching a. While he's pumped
out some GOOD nfl kids Like Josh pascal And Josh,
allen AND i, THINK i, MEAN i think he's just
a great, coach you, Know and he's he's just he's just.
Honest he's like a brutally honest.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Coach.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Coach he's gonna tell you like what you need to
hear when you need to hear. It, Honestly he's just
gonna tell you the. Truth AND i think that's a
good like attribute to have as a, coach because there's
a lot of line that like comes in into when
you're getting. Recruited SO i having a brutal like having
an honest coach's pretty it's a pretty big.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Deal, Well anwar is brutally, honest As anthony really knows
because they're both they're, very very very good friends And
i've known them both a long. Time but but then
kind of tell us a little bit about. It AS
i told you AND i talked to you, EARLIER i
nearly fell out of my chair WHEN i saw That
anwar that you had some pictures of anmir like of
(24:26):
you And Coach stuo or arm. Wrestling him And Coach
white were posing and kind of acting up in a
picture with. You that's not always the side of And
Moir stewart that we get to. See so CAN i
tell us just kind of what was he just, like you,
know kind of personality, wise not just what he was
telling you technique, wise but personality. Wise what did you
like about?
Speaker 4 (24:45):
HIM i mean personally he was pretty energetic and he
was he was he was having fun with me that.
WEEKEND i, MEAN i know you mentioned that he was very,
serious BUT i Mean i've seen him and feel LIKE
i haven't really seen him like crazy serious and only
seen his Lif every TIME i see, him he's always
in a good mood and he's, just you, KNOW i don't,
know he. Jokes he was joking around with me on my,
(25:06):
visit and he joked around a little bit when ever
came to see. Me SO i think he's a great
guy and HE'S i mean a great. Coach so definitely
nothing bad about. Him he's definitely a great. Guy i'm
definitely excited to be learning from.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Him, yeah So kentucky's coming off of four and eighth.
Season you're living there In, texas what may what Do
stu And Coach white and those guys say to you
to convince you the time you get here everything's going
to be.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
DIFFERENT i think Coach stoops is VERY i think he
wants to make a comeback. Season it's been like it's
been a while, since you, KNOW i don't, know since
they've like been to Old, KENTUCKY i. Guess SO i
think he's ready to bring that. Back AND i mean
they're starting to pull in some pretty good recruits right
now based on What i've be't. Seen so like right
(25:54):
WHEN i committed it was a perfect. TIME i, THINK
i mean, EVERYONE i think a lot of people are
wanting to come BECAUSE i, mean the school's going to
be on the. UPSIDE i, Mean kentucky is not like
they're not like a losing, team you. KNOW i feel
like they're a pretty winning team just in. History so
eventually they ain't come back to, it you. Know SO
i want to be a part of it on whenever
they're on their uprise and, like you, know help the
team do.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
It.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
BEN i will tell you, This And i'm hesitant to
tell you this, because As larry, said and war probably
one of my best. Friends like we hang out all the,
time so you when you have those meetings at his
house or when you guys hang, Out i'll probably be around.
Some but he, WAS i will tell you. This he
was excited to sign. You he said you were a
(26:36):
top priority for. Him so he. Was SO i tell
you that in hesitation because you said everything has been
fine and, dandy and everything will be fine and dandy
until it's. Not and he and you told, me or
you've Told, larry and you also told us that you,
know he's brutally, honest and that is one thing about
him that he expects a lot out of. You he's
gonna expect a lot out of, you and if you,
(26:57):
don't has he told you how? Things has he told
you how handy? Things if if you do not do
what he's expecting you to, do or you don't handle your,
business has he explained that to? You because he's he's
that brutally, honest he will tell, you even while he's recruiting,
you what his expectations are and what the consequences are
if you.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
DON'T i mean we just.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Kind of talked ABOUT i, mean of course with the
consequence if you don't do the right. STUFF i, mean
we didn't really focus on that too. Much it's, LIKE i,
mean when you go, IN i, mean the expectation is
you're not GONNA i thought it wasn't that big of
like a, thing like you were just getting mad at,
you you, know just like a normal. COACH i don't
(27:38):
think it's anything like too.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Crazy, no he'll.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Just bench, You he'll just you'll just watch the game
next to. Him That's it's it's very. Simple BUT i, just,
UH i have Never Larry. Vaught maybe can tell you,
otherwise BUT i have never heard him really praise anybody the. Way,
uh he seemed excited about your. Commitment, So, larry AM i?
Wrong have you ever Heard antwark praise any? Anybody?
Speaker 4 (28:02):
No and, NO i mean that's that's the big thing
WHY i wanted to. Come it's BECAUSE i heard that
he is really. Honest it's hard to please, him you,
know and it's kind of like he's not very like
surprised or excited about a lot of. Things so whenever
he was excited about, me you, know it really kind
of like made me want to come. More you. KNOW
i feel like they're LIKE i was one of the top,
(28:24):
priorities you, know AND i needed to be. There.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
Yep man kind of kind of tell people a little
bit about how you would describe yourself as a player
if they had a chance to see video or film with.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
You YET.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
I think that like my strengths of my game are
going to be my length and my strength based on
my junior. Film that's kind of what it what it.
Was but after This, DECEMBER i kind of focused and
really like focus on a meal plan and stuff and
switching because KNEW i was gonna play more edge for
my senior year, season SO i kind OF i kind
(29:00):
of leaned up In. DECEMBER i THINK i lost around thirty,
pounds got all my maxes. UP i think my bench
went up a good fifty sixty. Pounds, WELL i went
up a good seventy POUNDS i lost, Probably, YEAH i
lost thirty. Pounds my forty one down point four seconds
shuttling down like point. Two SO i was really focused,
(29:22):
trying you, know change my body and get ready BECAUSE
i don't have A i don't have a like a
breakout senior, year even THOUGH i wouldn't say my junior
year was a, breakout BUT i think the senior year will.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Be And, ben who can you attest all these gains
and lost loss of weight and gains of strength and
loss of speed or game to, speed but your numbers going?
Down is there someone in particular you're working on this
on your? Own do you have a coach someone on
the coaching staff who you give a shout out to
for helping all these.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
IMPROVEMENTS i have a home, gym so ill was get,
Up so it's kind of Just i'd wake, up i'd go,
Downstairs i'd left BEFORE i did anything during that, day
and then i'd go do all the MEALS i, had
And i'd wait six, hours do some more, stuff AND
i just kind of did that for thirty. DAYS i
(30:11):
didn't really have a. Coach it was really just kind, of,
yeah my house posting because we had two weeks of school,
off and even before, THAT i, mean it was pretty
easy at.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
School SO i.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Had to get a thirty day period WHERE i could
just focus on.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Myself and what is your focus from from now until
the part of the. Season are you still keeping the same?
Regimen was that just something to build your base or
do you have a Has kentucky and? Coach do have
they give you any goals that they would prefer you
to meet within the next.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Year, now it really just told me to go have
a good senior. Year but my goals ARE i, MEAN
i probably want to get BE i want to be
two fifty for my last, year BUT i want to
be two fifty and kind, of you, know a. Leaner
SO i want to be two fifty at the same speed.
Everything that's my main goal is to you, Know i'm
(31:04):
PROBABLY i weighed two forty five At, kentucky SO i
want to be probably another five pounds and THEN i
want to be like a little leaner too While i'm doing.
It So i'm gonna see IF i can get that
all done and be fast and all that stuff by
the time senior.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Year and At Lake TRAVIS, a they're gonna have you
played a little more edge or are you, gonna uh
still play inside? Somewhere are you gonna move you around
or are you gonna be doing more strictly edged because
that's What kentucky's gonna be expect.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Expected, NO i was GONNA i was an edge sophomore.
Year then we had two, decent uh decent recruits play
the edge this. Year so it's me in the middle
and then there's two edge guys on the. Outside SO
i played inside for a, year But i'm switching back
out SO i don't play more. End But i'm still
(31:53):
going to rotate around to have like certain, packages like
to WHERE i can pass rush. INSIDE i won't be
playing inside as much AS i did last.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Year, okay and uh my last, QUESTION i guess just
For Big Blue NAT's we always typically ask, recruits what
if you had to tell the fan, base what are
they gonna be getting from Being duncan does come to
campus and gets to established on.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Camp what kind of player are they going to be?
Speaker 4 (32:18):
GETTING i mean they're really get a fol good. GUY
i mean WHEN i come, IN i want TO i
want to come and take a, spot you. KNOW i
want to come. IN i want to start. EARLY i
want to be a true pression. Starter so that's what
they're gonna get out of. Me i'm just gonna come
in and play.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
Early that.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Work, larryvo you got anything for?

(35:40):
other sports and maybe kind of look at what they're
doing and, say, hey, man we do something like. That
we can get some more publicity and some stuff going
on during the summer for us. Too but The kentucky
basketball has done a great. Job i've been able to
promote their brand during the last two.
