Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirtylap.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome to Stockyards Bank, Sunday morning sports Talk. I'm Larry Veltz,
sitting in the big chair normally occupied by Anthony White.
But Anthony's up visiting with his mother as he should
be today. Having just a little bit of difficulty getting
hooked up with Anthony, so hopefully he'll be here with
us in just a moment or two. Bo Robinson, our
(00:27):
trustee producers, already had a little bit of drama earlier
this morning, so he's on little pins and needles over there,
trying to kind of chill out right now. But fortunately
no drama with me, no drama with Jack Pilgrim. So Jack,
hopefully you're getting ready to have a very, very enjoyable
Mother's Day today.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, sounds like everybody else in our lives is going
crazy with their own Mother's Day chaos. But hey, sounds
like we're doing all right, Larry.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, Yeah, you and are hanging tough, and hopefully Anthony
will be with us here soon. He's but as I said,
I guess the radio lingo Bo is efforting right now
to get things worked out for anthony'll be with us
at all So but we'll have a lot to hear
from here once he does get with us. So, Jack,
what uh what? What do you think was the biggest
(01:18):
UK basketball story from the past week.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Well, for me, it was the fact that I was
able to disconnect and not worry about a single thing
while I was taking some much needed time off. We
took a family out to San Diego, took took a
little man to the zoo, and did all the fun stuff,
all the amusement parks and saw the beach and all
that all that fun stuff. So it was very nice
(01:43):
to just kind of take a step back and just
watch it all unfold instead of having to write and
talk about every little a little bit of the drama.
So yeah, there's a lot of stuff that happened. I
think obviously the biggest news is Kentucky adding Reese Potter
Lexington Catholic Zone Reese Potter. Right when we kind of
thought that things were dying out with the roster news,
(02:04):
Mark Pope kind of throws a little bit of a
curveball and adds a seven footer to the mix to
add to what I think is already one of the
most the deepest, most talented front course in college basketball,
So I go beyond all the scheduling stuff. I think
Reese Potter the vision is right there.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
And speaking of Reese Potter, he will be on with
us next Sunday at ten thirty to talk about his
I guess homecoming for lack of a better word, but yeah,
I'm still kind of intrigued Jack because Mark Pope had
gone on with John Rosstein on the podcast and said
the thirteenth player he was looking for was somebody that
could come in and be a good kind of transitional piece,
(02:44):
be a red shirt guy, help him a lot in practice,
or a guy is looking to finish his career on
a really high note, wanting to join a big time program.
So it would make it sound like that Reese is
kind of the guy that maybe would be red shirted,
but he's yet he's thinking, are saying, no, it's not
his plan coming in, He's coming here to play this
(03:05):
next season.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, And I think that should be every kid's approach
to say, you know, whether your plan for me is
to red shirt, sit the bench or whatever, I'm going
to make you play me. I'm going to give you
a reason to, you know, insert me in the rotation
at least carve out some type of role. But yeah,
I think Reees is a guy that a very at
(03:29):
the very least just knows that he's not coming in
to play thirty minutes a game and be the superstar
in the front court next season. Obviously seeing what's ahead
of him, and you know, knowing that you have Jaden Quains,
you have Brandon Garrison, you have Malachai Morando that you're
probably you know, going to be battling Malachi Moreno for
those minutes, not you know, those first two with Brandon
(03:51):
Garrison and Jaden Quaints. But you know, let's say Jaden
has some type of a stepback or his return. You know,
we also are in that same interview that you were
talking talking about Mark Pope saying that he wasn't going
to rush Jaden back, and you know, he's going to
wait till he's one hundred percent to get him back
on the floor. Not going to do any Hey he's cleared,
but he's seventy five percent and we're waiting untill he's
(04:13):
one hundred. So I could kind of present some early
opportunities for Reeve and you know, we'll just see what
happens and how quickly he's able to find his footing,
and there's some talk about him potentially dealing with some
ailments and kind of working through some injury on his
end as well, so that kind of gives him a
chance to not be rushed into anything on his end either.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
So I just don't see.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
It as anything but a win win for either side,
for Kentucky to add depth and Reese Potter to be
able to live out of his dream as a Kentucky
wild Gap.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
And speaking of win wins, I think I don't know
if you would exactly say this is coming from the
Big Ace Fans hotline or not, but that we use
for our callers, but I think we have things worked
out and we've got our superstar back with us. Anthony Foy.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Good morning, Anthony, Hey Larry, I hope you can hear
them and everything's loud and clear. I don't know if
you're expecting a superstar, but I'm here.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, you are a superstar. You know that you're the
only all SEC performer on the crew, so it makes
you are a superstar, Anthony. So glad to have you
with us.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
I know this is.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
A big weekend for you, and as I told you, before.
I always knew that Mother's Day was special. This is
our Mother's Day version of Sunday Morning Sports Talk this week.
But I think that I realized this year just how
special Mother's Day is and probably didn't fully appreciate it
as I should have. So you make sure you give
your mom a hug for me up there today.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
I did. And when I thought, I've been listening to
the show while we were trying to get on, and
I thought this was going to all be about mothers
at this point in time, there's really there's always any
point of time that ain't nothing more important than the mother.
And you know, Jack, you know there's a little movement
going on. We're trying to fill twelve and thirteen spots,
not sending those guys sgnificant who knows when we'll need them.
(06:02):
We need them in practice, and but this day is
dedicated to mothers. And you know, the receiver room is
trying to beef up. Bush handing is working, so our
obviously our offense and it's as good as so all
those things. I don't think it's gonna matter for a
couple of months, but uh yeah, so I appreciate you
standing in them up here. With mom when she wakes up.
(06:24):
She ain't never done this before because I'm doing it
for my phone this time. I usually do it from
the computer. When she wakes up, Larry, I'm gonna bring
her own live I'm catch her off guard and say,
Larry wants to tell you something. So if it comes
across as unprofessional, If it comes across as unprofessional and
she's not used to curse, she doesn't curse, but she
may be a little nervous, so you might have to
(06:44):
help her out. Well.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Unprofessional is probably a word. It's been used for Sunday
Morning Sports Talk before. So if a HAPs too that
here on Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning's Sports Talk, let's deal
with it and go right on. But as the show
goes on. Yeah, I would love to hear from any
of our lists nervous about any special Mother's Day memories
they have or plans they have for today with their mother.
(07:06):
Our phone number is eight five nine two A two
two eighty seven on the Big A's Fans Hotline, so
feel free to give us a call and let us
know how everything is going. And also special plans with
your mom today, Anthony, once she does wake up.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
See I feel bad about the Easter thing, and I
don't want you all feeling bad about my mom just because.
So my sister's a mother, my niece is a mother,
and I raised my niece as my daughter, and my
nephew is her older brother. Kim and I are going
to grill for all three of them, my mom, my sister,
(07:43):
and his sister my niece. Wow, Now the problem is Larry,
my nephew. I can watch the grill and I think
I might have said this on the show. If I
put I bought some steaks, I put them on the grill.
I put them on the grill, I go in and
play Madden for a little bit and go check on
them in twenty minutes. And apparently I may beef jerky.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
So it's a long way.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
So the plan is. So the plan is for my
nephew and I to cook out for my mom's sister
and niece and treat them. You know, we're gonna give
them gifts and stuff. But they just sit back and
hang out and SHO watched me and my younger, the
younger the future, you know, make food. I just I'm
just not confident it might be my part on you know,
make sure it turns out good for them, that's my
(08:28):
only concern.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Well, the best advice I would give you is don't
go play Madden while you're cooking. Just go ahead and
stay there and watch those steaks. Just flip them over
and all and you'll be okay at all. So it'll
work out well. I know your mom and and all
of them, they'll be happy that you're doing that. They'll
get to visit, So i'd be the best gift you
can give them, buddy, And.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
I appreciate you making it possible. Man, two weeks in
a row. Man, I had to lean on you. Man,
I appreciate it. Never realized how important that would be,
but I do appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Well.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
As I was telling you, there's I don't have them
for the first time on Mother's Day. This is my
way of kind of in a strange way, still giving
back to her by making it easier for you to
go up and see your mom. So kind of makes
me feel good to be able to do it today.
So glad I could do that now before we go
to our break, Bo, what kind of Mother's Day plans
do you have? Are you just going to be right
(09:18):
here doing baseball all day?
Speaker 6 (09:20):
I think after the drama I've caused over the last
ninety minutes, it's probably best I just stay home. Just
the way things started this morning.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
I will say that if you hadn't have told me
about all the drama when I got here, I wouldn't
have sensed it. You seemed pretty relaxed and you get
calmed down, and everything looked like just like normal. But
until you told me that, I thought, my golly, I'm
just glad he's not ready to jump off the top
of the building.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
Can we go back to the word unprofessional? Because that's
what's happened over the last ninety minutes. To me, I'm
embarrassed to even talk about it, even though it will
make for great content on Sunday morning sports talk. I
haven't told my parents what has happened. I haven't had
a chance to talk to them this morning, but my
mom will probably say stay home. We don't want you
(10:10):
around the house. Based on what you've.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Done, well, I think you well, we'll let our listeners
just kind of ponder on what you may let's do
this morning, and a little bit later in the show,
we'll let you fess up to what you did, so
we'll go ahead and take our first break here on
Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk and we'll come back.
We'll continue conversations with Jack Pilgrim and Anthony White.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty w l.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
A p wow bo like this song, but great, great music,
and you're I'd say it's absolutely right. We can ever
sell our mama short because they love us more than
probably what they should have, so least at least mine did.
I am sure about that. So welcome back to Stockyards
Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, coming to you from the
(10:57):
Clark's Pump and Shop studio. Return refresh from your fuel
at Clark's and you can sign up for the lord
He Rewards program to get discounts on fuel and more.
Great deal. So again it's our Sunday Morning Sports Talk
version of Mother's Day. If you have a comment or
anything you'd like to share about your mother or anything
to do with anything to do with UK sports, just
(11:18):
give us call on the Big As Fans Hotline at
eight five nine, two eighth to two eight seven. Jack,
we were talking a little bit earlier about UK basketball
and you said it was kind of a peaceful week
and everything with Potter committing, was a little angst amongst
some Kentucky fans with what Otega Oway said about the
(11:39):
draft that he was only in kind of similar to
what you were talking about with Reese Potter saying he's
only in wanting to play. And part of me thinks that, yeah,
Otaga is going to be back and there's no big deal.
Part of me keeps hearing how much he would really
like to go to the NBA In some speculation or
something that I've talked to said, yeah, he probably need
(12:01):
to be a first round draft pick, but maybe not
if he gets a really good indicator. So do you
think there's any chance that Otaga won't be back next year?
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Jack, Yeah, it's a great question because obviously Otaga is
the anchor. He's the guy that you know, Kentucky's kind
of built this entire roster around with just kind of
penciling him in as the Okay, well, let's add all
the complimentary pieces to go with the superstar guarantee that
(12:32):
is Otega Away, as Mark Pope described so eloquently, said
that he's, you know, would be the shoe in for
SEC Player of the Year just going into the season.
Should he return, So, you know, I understand where a
lot of that concern would come from. But I think
the bigger comments in that exact interview that he did
(12:53):
was saying that that, you know, there's some truth to
the first round guarantee talk, and that is what he's
looking for. And then he'll make a decision kind of
based on on where his his draft prospects are after
the Combine and those things that are going on this
this week. So he's in Chicago this week at the Combine,
(13:13):
he'll get his you know, big opportunity, his big chance
to kind of prove himself in front.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Of NBA scouts. But just keep in mind, b the end.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
That that Jackson Robinson did the exact same thing that
time last year, said the exact same comments. You know,
I'm you know, trying to reach my dream of playing.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
In the NBA. Uh, you know, I'm it's in. My
recruitment is one hundred percent open.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
It's not a done deal that I'm going to Kentucky
following Mark Pope. Like I'm in in this, I'm invested
in this. And then he ends up pulling his name
out of the draft and committing to Mark Pope a
day later, and said, yeah, I was gonna always go
to Kentucky if the NBA thing didn't work out, and
they didn't, And at this stage, Jackson Robinson's draft stock
(13:55):
is better higher than than Otega's is at this stage.
You know, at this time, Jackson was forty five to
fifty depending on which mock draft.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
You look at.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
And as of today, there's just one mock draft that
has O take It listed at all and that was
at fifty nine, which is the last pick of the draft.
So considering how much money is on the line with
him returning to Kentucky, I mean, I'd be stunned. I
think they've you know, had a little bit of a
you know, cash stash set aside for Otago for this
(14:27):
moment to say, Hey, you'll be one of the richest
players in college basketball if you decide to come back
next season. So see the process through, Go test the draft,
waters do this the right way, receive all the feedback
that you want, and if you can get a better
guarantee from an NBA team, shoot do it. I mean,
it'd be great for him, great for Kentucky recruiting and
all that, but I have a hard time believe in
(14:48):
he'll receive that and he'll he'll make his way back
and become a very very very very rich man and.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Licensed to next season.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Anthony, what about you any scenario where you could envision
Otey would not be back next year.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
I think Jack articulated extremely well. If he if the
money isn't right, or like I said, if he's financially
gonna gonna lose out, uh, I I would think it
would be an issue. And I don't know the numbers,
uh And Jack reports a little bit more on it,
and then Jack is even saying some of the numbers
(15:26):
that are being thrown around or are not fine. But
if you're talking into the first round, you may as
well come back as Jackson and be SEC player of
the year, Be the cog for this for this team,
be the guy who knows what the same way Jackson
Robbins was supposed to be in the same way that
Butler took over. You know, somebody who knows the system
(15:46):
and figured out. And so I think him coming back
would be huge for Mark Pope and would be huge
for his career because now you don't have Jackson Robbins,
you don't have Butler. You got to share shots with
in Ball possession with but I'm more optimistic that he
comes back, just because I don't think he's top fifteen,
(16:07):
and at that point, I think he loses money, he
loses our ability to be top ten next year, possibly
top ten or fifteen. So if I had a bet,
put some money on it, I would bet that he
would come back, giving the scenario and given the way
things seem like they work. But I will say this though,
Larry Ball, I would be curious to see Big Blue
Nation's reaction if he did leave, because he's the guy
(16:31):
we expect to come back and be the man next year.
Haven't we dealt with that for about twelve years?
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah, we have. And I think for me what makes
it hard to kind of comprehend what may or may
not happen is that when we're talking about what money
he might make at Kentucky next year, Jack, nobody really
knows for sure. We see all kind of speculation, but
where you don't know for sure, there's always some gray area. Mean,
we think he's certainly got to be his well compassed, sited,
(17:00):
probably better than anybody on the team, but you never
know for sure. And then again, I guess you never
know for sure what might be the gas mind too,
Maybe somebody out there would take less money to go
ahead and start a professional career. We'll probably see that
happen at some point.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Yeah, And I think the only thing you do know
with certainty is how much he could be making in
the NBA Draft, because those rookie scales are set every year,
so you can see just kind of ballpark of what
you're hearing with, you know, across college basketball and what
each guy is you know, potentially making, and what these
agents are throwing out there. But if you're looking at
(17:37):
those and just seeing the ballpark numbers, he would have
to get something like a top twenty guarantee to match
the potential earnings. And even if it was you know,
even a first round guarantee, you know, he he could
you know, still make potentially exponentially more money in Lexington.
So it really, it really would he just an absolute
(18:01):
superstar performance in Chicago at the draft combine. And I'm
not saying it's impossible for Otega to do that, but
I just think the sample size of Otega being a really,
really really good college basketball player while also you know,
showing some flaws as an NBA prospect, and especially in
terms of shooting and you know, playmaking in court, vision
(18:21):
and some of those things that NBA scouts are clearly
still looking for out of him.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
I just think this makes way too much sense for
him to come.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Back and be the superstar and kind of give one
last shot at college basketball before before turning pro next cycle.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Well, I agree with what you said, Jack, except for
one thing. It makes too much Sanskull's in college athletics,
and it seems like logic is never the deciding factor
on anything. So who knows. But we'll take our break
here on Sunday Morning Sports Stock. Come back, we'll continue
our conversations with Jack Fielgrim and Anthony White.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Welcome back to Stuckyard Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. This hour,
Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you by Country
Boy Brewing. And we're gonna go right away to the
big As Fans hotline because I got a feeling John
Short might be going to chastise us a little bit
for our first thirty minutes for what we didn't talk about.
But John Short, how are you doing this morning?
Speaker 5 (19:18):
My friend?
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Last first thing, Hey, y'all doing We're doing good.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
What's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (19:26):
Well, we beat Oklahoma in baseball. I never will be
in again today.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
I knew we hadn't mentioned that we beat Kentucky beat
Oklahoma twice, beat on Friday and Saturday, John, Yes, indeed
we did. And that's number fourty.
Speaker 7 (19:42):
We were number fourteen in nation, right.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yeah, they are number fourteen in the nation. That gets
Kentucky now up to twenty seven and twenty overall, twelve
and fourteen in SEC play. And the final game is
of the series is today at one o'clock. Bow, Is
that correct? One o'clock? So be going for the Mother's
Day today, John, we will.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
I think we will win today at least.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
So the night is selection show for the softball and
I don't have a great feeling about them getting in,
but we'll see what happens.
Speaker 7 (20:13):
Yeah, I don't think we get any Eagles records front
in twenty five we had. If we had thirty nine
or forty wins, I think we got will be in easily.
I leave. I bet we'll make it. But what regent
thing will be in in baseball or eachent thing will
be in?
Speaker 2 (20:28):
I don't know that. They still got to make sure
they get the Y. I would think that maybe it
wouldn't be surprising to see if they get shipped out West,
if they do make it at all. But uh, I
don't really follow the baseball projections quite as close as
I would if it was basketball. But all of those
they need to get at least if they don't win today,
they need to get at least one win, maybe two
(20:48):
Dawn and Dandy, just to make sure they are in there.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Yeah, and it will be knowing Kentucky Tea tonight too, Well,
we'll win that game. And if Kimbrook kept anybody else
for this season, if you've done for Sason, well.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I don't think he wants to be done, but I've
not seen anything lately about any rumors or anybody he's
been been in on, so he may be done.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
John.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
All right, Well, thank you for calling us. As always,
we appreciate.
Speaker 7 (21:16):
It, so welcome.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Okay, guys. I knew John was gonna get on us
for not mentioning the baseball team because it is two
huge wins, because they've gone to Mississippi State last weekend
and got swept and kind of put themself back out
of the NCAA tournament projections. But now they've won these
two games, they've got up to twelve conference wins, and
I think kind of the minimum for an SEC team
(21:40):
to get into the NCAA tournament play. He has been
thirteen conference wins in recent years. So now they've got
four conference games left, one to Day three at Vandy.
One more of those and they should be okay. But
good weekend so far for him, Jack, Yeah, last.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Night being Senior Day as well.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Getting that series win over Oklahoma ranked series win the
big time, and again, like you said, doesn't guarantee a
third straight instadi of a tournament run, but kind of
puts you in position where you're playing with house money
and you know, you take care of business today. And
I think that's you know, like you said, hits that
(22:22):
magic thirteen number where you can feel pretty darn good
about it, and then you have another series to you know,
officially lock that up. But you know all you just
got to put yourself in the conversation at this point,
and I think they've done a really good job with it.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Yeah, Anthony's the picture they beat on Friday, I think
is projected to be one of the top picks in
the Major League draft that'll be coming up. So to
be able to scratch out a win over against him
was really really big for Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Yeah, we would be awesome. I mean it's been up
and down season. It's kind of one of those great
His scratching a little bit like UK football is little
his crashing that. Uh, you know some of the games
we should win. Can we mess around and win a
rubber match or a or a possible series sweep against
the top top fifteen opponent, which is crazy. But I
(23:15):
was trying to talk to you. I don't like this
new system. I'm not coming back out of town again, Larry,
because because I like to speak when I want to speak,
and Bo ain't give me an opportunity. But I ain't
gonna beat bow up because I got to find out
what Bol's problem is. Once I find out what this
problem is, yeah, take it eail on.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
I'll just put it this way and just be glad
we're having a show right now, and we'll get into
the more of that later, but at this point, just
be glad we're having a show right now. Is all
that I will tell you again, if you'd like to
join us, like John Short did on The Big As
Fans Hotline, give us a call at eight five nine
two A zero two two eight seven. Coming up later
in the show, at ten thirty, we will have DJ Hunter,
(23:55):
quarterback out of Knoxville, who's a sophomore this year but
has already committed to play for the University of Kentucky.
And then at eleven o'clock, we're going to have Andrea Flores,
who I guess you could say is better known maybe
or best known locally right now is Anngley Alamore's Angeley
Aleanor's girlfriend, but she's got a really interesting magazine project
(24:15):
that she's working on that she wants to share a
little bit about. And then I also tells us a
little bit about how Ansley's season did go, maybe what
a lie lies ahead for him. So I think you'll
enjoy listening to her. But right now, feel free to
give us a call if you would like to. But
I'm also guessed I was trying to find out because
one of.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Our former role okay, Larry, I wasn't talking.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Oh okay, go ahead, Anthony.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
You just cut me up. See that's why I got
to get back in town. I don't ever cut you off.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I'll you okay, I thought you took a pause and
you were done.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
My mistake.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
No, I'm just kidding. I know honestly, I was trying
to ask some because the drama that both went through
some this may make you a little bit uncomfortable. But
the two things when John Short made the call it
and then the reason I want to say it now
is because the topic is on deck right now. Out
with John Short brought up about uh, the softball team
(25:04):
not having an opportunity, and we know how the season
started off. You know, Rachel is one of my favorite,
one of the show's favorite. Is she gonna be granted
grace to you know, make this thing turn around? She
told you, she explained what her obstacles are. I'm making
this program successful. The other part and the second question
had for you and Jack was and this is the
(25:25):
part that may make you uncomfortable a little bit. And
I know they're going to be on social media. So
this is over. If Brooks is still looking for a roster,
trying to put together a roster and Peach, I'm I
got faith that he's gonna do it the way he
needs to. Not not a not not Mark stops. But
Kenny Brooks is does the last recruiting the last couple
(25:49):
of recruiting fiascos. Has that had any impact on it?
Because it maybe because we follow Big Blue Nation people
on social media, we feel like it was bigger news
than it was now. Actually it may not have been.
But recruits, do you know this because you cover recruit
You and Jack both recruits do know that if somebody
left there unhappy or somebody's unhappy there, that does have
(26:11):
an influence on them. So my two questions to you
and Jack are does does Rachel lost and gets some
grace to get this program the way she wants it
due to, you know, the new landscape, and it's it's
Kenny brook it's some of the things that went on
behind some of the adjustments to the roster affecting Kenny
(26:31):
brooks Is getting people in here.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Okay, well, we'll hold your thoughts on both those because
we've got Alvin on the on the Big Ace Fans Hotline.
We're going to go to Alvin, and then after Alvin
we'll take a break and then we'll come back and
discuss both of those because they're both really good points, Anthony.
So Alvin welcome Sunday Morning Sports Style. Thanks for giving
us a call.
Speaker 8 (26:50):
Hey, Hey, good morning gays. Hey now you doing. I'm
appreciate you take my call on his Mother's Day. I
did have a thought about mother's generally in the African
American communities, mothers always the ones that spirit head their
kids to play sports. They're the ones to sign them
up for recreational ball, They're the ones that get them
(27:12):
through the collegiate career and also through the pros. And
Michael Michael Jordan's mother come to stout what she's done
for Michael Jordan and also being the one that didn't
buckle under the money that was offered by Nike. And
I think some of us have seen her stories, and
(27:32):
so I wanted to give a shout out to all
the mothers that took their kids the WRECT ball and
through collegiate ball and to college and through the pros.
I did want to ask Anthony. In the football season,
collegiate football season, the most integral part of the team
is a quarterback. I've heard not heard much about the
(27:57):
starting quarterback the quarterback situations that US Okay football or
we could comment on that. And then I have a
question to you guys, who would you who would be
on your Mount rush More of the greatest college football
coaches of all time. I know the two of them
will be the great Bard Bank and his partner, uh
(28:22):
Nick Saban at Alabama. And maybe you guys could add
three or four more to go rush mount More. Uh, Anthony,
I did want to hear you about the quarterback in
the UK and if you guys to talk about who's
the greatest coaches in collegiate football? Thank you a lot?
Speaker 2 (28:40):
All right, thank you, Alvan Anthony gowad answer his question
there about the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
Whatever. Everything I'm hearing and small semple size, Nick Krzada
has the zach uh Kaza has the the uh every
I mean we've heard this from. Is why I'm so
uncomfortable even speaking on the terms that he can make
the throws. He has, the size, he has, the maturity,
(29:07):
he has, the experience.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
The biggest thing.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
When now the album was bringing that up, when I
knew this was gonna be a question that comes up
is Larry they brought in a receiver that left the
program for whatever reasons. We just signed another receiver. My
biggest concern about the quarterback is which I told you
(29:34):
the offensive line has been a concern because it's been
inconsistent for the past couple of years. So was Devin
Larry that bad no word, Well, we don't know because
he didn't have an opportunity to throw the ball. So
if Calzada is going to get an opportunity to do
what he does, I can give you a fair assessment.
I can't give you a fair assessment because we're still
(29:54):
bringing receivers in. We're still trying to bring in offensive power,
which tells us that we may not be comfortable we
are offensively and I and I'm you know, I'm still
you and I both and jackets Welle are on the
fence that we got to see this offensive line play.
I can't judge the quarterback off the offensive line play,
but we're not we and I would and I said,
I go back to Devon Leary. We haven't even brought
(30:15):
a quarterback in yet. They can't make all the throws.
Devin Leary can make all the throws, and he could process.
But I mean, if you've got a process and micro seconds,
I mean, anybody who looks I mean Patrick mahoons and
Patrick Mahone's season looked like that this year running for
his life half the time. So Nick cass gonna Kasa
is gonna be the quarterback? Is a guy played against
(30:39):
in high school? That was his name. That's why I
can saying, but uh he Casada is gonna be the quarterback.
What I think about him, I think he can be good.
We can keep him upright. The next question I got
is how many receivers in the room that we trust
that are gonna get open for him to have options?
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Okay, well we'll discuss that as we come back, but again,
thank you for the coll avil. We'll get to your
other point about the Mount Rushmore of college coaches. We'll
address that when we come back from break. So stay
with us. We'll be back on Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
So this is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty
w l ap.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Welcome back to Stockyards Bank, Sunday Morning Sports Talk. Almost
forgot to talk, just got to listen to the music
there Bo good, good choice and Allso, but before we
went to break, Alvin wanted to know the Mount Rushmore
of college football coaches. If you were picking Jackie put
Bear Brightt, Nick Saban on there, who else would you add.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Oh Markoops is one that jumps out of me now just.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Hmmm, I don't know. I need to lean on Anthony
a little bit more more for that one.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
For my favorite thing, Anthony, where you leaning.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Man, and I don't want to cause any more controversy
than Bow's already brought to the show. I will say
what I'm What I would add to that list is
Joe Paterno and I always talk about being a Michigan
fan in high school and Ohio State was my second,
which is controversial. His statement may have been neck connect
with Ohio State. I just like the simple uniforms, just
(32:18):
white and blue, no logos, no names on the jersey.
And I've soa I've always followed Joe paternal onto until
his his passing or rest in peace and understand the
allegation count uh So I would add probably Joe Paterno,
Eddie Robinson, and just because I don't think sbcu's get
enough credit, HBCUs get enough credit for you know, the
(32:41):
product they produced. Dion went down there and did this thing,
so the people I would add to that list, or
just because it's Mount Rushmore, which means it's gonna be
engraved and Chisel forever would be paternal Robinson and and
Boden and I could be leaving our older coaches from
way back in the sixties or something. But yeah, the
(33:04):
two he had, Nick Bear, Bobby and Joe for certain,
but I think Eddie does deserve some credit.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Yeah, I'm with Larry.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
What do you think about What do you think about
Spurrier and Mike Leach being out of that leg?
Speaker 2 (33:20):
They'd be on my Leacher definitely on my all time
favorite list. Probably wouln't quite put them both both up
on the Mount Rushmore. I definitely would have Eddie Robinson
up there. I would probably also I would go the
Pop Warner and maybe Amos Alonzo stag Uh for what
their contributions were that led to foot to the point
(33:41):
we are in football right now. So that would that
would probably be my So I don't you got okay,
go ahead?
Speaker 5 (33:49):
I did want I do. I do want to give
an honor wle mention. I did want to give an
honold mention to uh Earth because of what both what
Jack said. I do want to give an honorable mentioned
to Urban Meyer because I mean he before, like I said,
I and Roy Kid, Roy Kid, just because I guess
(34:10):
it's Kentucky. But I don't think you could deny anything
Roy Kid has done.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
No, he was one of the jack anybody different you'd
put there?
Speaker 3 (34:21):
Yeah, I'm trying to think Urban was the only other
one some you know, Jim Harbaugh say. I think those
those are probably the main ones.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Off the top of my head, I think we got
all the all the must have the must have the.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Jack about what about what he Hayes bow To suggested.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
That, Yeah, but what he Hayes is on there. I'm
trying to I tried googling some other names just to
make sure I'm not missing any But I think I
think we hit all all of the main ones that
needed be addressed, less Anthony, unless I'm missing Bill Snyder.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
What do we think about Bill Snyder?
Speaker 5 (35:08):
Not much? I'm on that.
Speaker 8 (35:12):
Yeah, who was the guy?
Speaker 5 (35:13):
Oh, Jim Trestle? What either one of you ad Jim Trestle?
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I wouldn't.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Yeah, you know, he dominated Division two before he went up,
you know, he dominated, like dominated, dominated, but nobody else
could touch and then went to Ohio State and one
but definitely because I'm Ohio Ohio kid.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Yeah, you're you're too hung up there now, let's get
back to Anthony's other question, Jack about recruiting with Kenny Brooks,
and did some of the things that maybe happened at
the end of the season, with the way that maybe
some players left the team, how does that impact future recruits?
I think it's for me, it's hard to know because
somebody's ever usually going to come out and say, well,
(35:52):
I didn't go there because of this or that. But
just recruiting in general, do you think it makes a
difference with future recruits what happened in the past at
the school.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
I think it does to an extent. You know, obviously
it's it's all you know.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Depends on circumstance and and you know, if there's drama,
if there's you know, not Kentucky specifically, but with other programs,
you know, if there's uh, you know, team turmoil or
you know, allegations of you know, like definitely things going
on within a locker room in recent years will impact
(36:28):
how things go down down the road. But for Kentucky
specifically and Kenny Brooks, I don't think it would would
it mattered at all. And I think, you know, the
roster he's been able to build, I think it's a
really strong one, especially with the high school recruits coming
in next season. I think it's, you know, more so
Kenny Brooks looking to establish his culture and kind of
(36:48):
doing things his way, and even if it makes people
uncomfortable with some of the decisions he's making, I think
that's something that you know, you just have to kind
of respect and say, you know, he's doing things his
way and trying to bring a final four to Lexington,
So it's uncomfortable, but you got to kind of do
(37:08):
what he wants.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Absolutely, And I'll make a little plea here before we
come back for our second hour if anybody knows how
Josh Katis did in the Dancing with the Stars since
he's a former Sunday Morning Sports Talk guest, I'd like
to know, So give us a call, or text us,
or shoot me into a message on Twitter anyway, but
(37:31):
stay with us and we'll be back for the second
half of Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk here on
news Radio six point thirty WLAP
