Speaker 2 (00:05):
Welcome back dock Yards Bank, Sunday. When the sports Talking.
I'm Anthony White, now joined by my partner on the
Locker UK stand Out Cornerback, NFM Cornerback. If you watch,
if you follow him on social media, Football Breakdown Extraordinary Van.
How's good morning, mister Hole's I got a funny story

(00:29):
to tell you, but I'm gonna see how first.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I am doing amazing. We we didn't lose this week.
That's a possible, right, we don't.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
We don't play with hey after Wednesday night. We don't
plan on. Let's losing no more this season. Oh, elgebo, that's.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
What I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Aster what That's what.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I like to hear. You'll need some of that gun.
But y'all got mojo down there? Or is that just yeah,
that's in New Orleans or what part of the what
part of Louis m Do you get more Joe and
the Heck's and all that stuff from anyway? Yeah? Yeah,
you get that anywhere.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
But I mean, I guess New Orleans is the It's
the quintessential. Seeing that people understand it from. But man,
you get that from Lafayette. You get that from probably
not North louist down like Street Port Monroe, but definitely
Opolousis and uh Lake Charge.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, for sure, I will tell you this. We've had
some moments on our podcast on Wednesday night nine pm
Town to ten pm or whenever people stop asking questions.
We have some moments on that show. Both Robinson and
I lit this. This may tickle you a little bit.
Both Robinson, I have done this for a long time. Man,
we kind of like people butter than Jelly, Like, hey,

(01:47):
we get along. So I go, I'm at a hotel
and you, as you've done frequently, I wouldn't go downstairs
really quickly and says I got to do something, start
putting stuff in the car because my checkout is coming soon.
And I'm like, well, I got two minutes before we
get back on air. Hopefully he has vain. But I
I figured I got to check with both to make

(02:07):
sure he has you lined up on air. But I
cut it really close, which I shouldn't have done anyways,
and I get back to the door, which I still
think I got a minute to spare since my checkout
is eleven without the extension. I pushed the key and
all like as a yellow blight, and I hear and
I can hear the phone because it's on figure. I
heard you both saying three two one, I said work.

(02:35):
So the great thing was, I'm like, man, I don't
know what they're gonna do, because you you know, you're
not only on this show. Everybody's ever. There's nobody there.
Everybody's remote bos only one there, like nobody for to
do live mic. Oh.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
The lucky thing was I didn't have to take the
elevator back there. I found. I found a house a
housekeeper and asked her. I said, look, man, my key
won't work. I'm supposed to be on air right now.
And she's said okay, and she she didn't ask for
any She just let me right back in, which was cool.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So I didn't have to go back downstairs. But I
was like, man, this is about to be terrible. Guy's
going downstairs. Wait for somebody come to the front desk. Yep. See,
I know.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I didn't know any of this was happening until we
hit the open and then I told Anthony and Van
you heard me five four three two one. You guys
are up, and then all of a sudden, no Anthony
and no Van is still with me, and I'm like, okay,
what do I do?

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Do?

Speaker 4 (03:33):
I go on in the air and talk to Van
a little bit, try to buy some time. But the
hard thing would have been trying to call you Anthony
and talk to Van at the same time. And I
could have put that phone call on the air, and
I'm sure everybody would have loved to hear our conversation
about why you were not on the air when you
were supposed to because you got locked out of your
hotel room.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Nonetheless, we are here.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
And by the way, speaking of and guess who I
have on the line for you boys right now?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh, the vaultster.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
He has finished his ten mile race. No way, no
bears had attacked him in the Great Smoky Mountains. Wow,
ladies and gentlemen, Larry Vault, Larry was still got it.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Guess you hurt? I guess you heard what happened?

Speaker 6 (04:24):
Man? Yeah, that's like you had quite a morning. I've
had that happen to me with the late check app
when your key doesn't know it. But you got it
worked out. Okay, that's good. You handled it. Just like
you always do.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
It's easy cooking. Now I got you and van On here. Man,
it's gonna hey, this is gonna be easy peasy for
this next what forty five minutes?

Speaker 6 (04:47):
I may not be able to stay that long because
I've got to get checked out at eleven thirty and
I don't know if I'm good as good looking as
you to where the housekeeper would give me a nut.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
The vault.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Pardon he didn't hear you? Man?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Was there really a housekeeper, missal farm I'm trying to
wonder was that associated.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
With that situation? Maday? This is a dark radio or
not famous radio. Yeah, it's Sunday morning. Yeah, yeah, you're right,
you're right. That's my bad, My bad, my bad. I apologize. Well,
Larry one. Well, one of the thing is we have

(05:33):
to hit the break because because we miss this up.
So you're gonna stay with us one segment if you
got to be out of eleven.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
Thirty, yeah, yeah, I don't do that, yes, yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Okay, So we're gonna hit this break early so we
can get you out by eleven thirty, and we appreciate
you joining us. So we got Larry vaudey Vaye house
We'll be back really quickly to uh to talk women's basketball.
Were back after this. You listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday
want of sports talk on the radio six thirty.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
This is the home of the Wildcats six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White,
along with the UK standout NFL befensive back Ben House
and the great Larry Vaught. Stockyards Bank is your trust.
Apartners is nineteen oh four. Head on over to syb
dot com for all your banking and financial needs. Larry Vought,

(06:27):
I'm glad to see you made it through. Had no
doubt in my mind. But you never know anybody who
just runs for no reason. I always questioned, what I
think that's what keeps you, That's what keeps you so young,
Larry Vaut.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
Well, I would like to think that helps, but it's
just kind of one of the little personal challenges I take,
and believe it or not, I actually finished a couple
of minutes faster than what I did. Fast might be
that's the right word to use, but ahead of the
time I had last year, which I'm pretty proud of.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Did you finish in the top two again last year, again,
this this, this going around over that a misprint again
maybe you couldn't find.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
No, there was a little more accurate this time. But
it was fun.

Speaker 6 (07:19):
It's always fun to run in the Smoky mountains and
friends of the Smoke He's puts on a terrific event
there the Cat's cove looplope and it's ten miles. Probably
the only disappointment today was didn't see any bears. But
the ranger said because it was so windy here that
I didn't know this that bears don't really like to
come out in the wind.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Huh wait, you were looking forward to seeing a bear.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Yeah, when you run, they're usually over in the fields.
They come out and kind of wave to you and
say hi. They don't any so it's always kind of motivating.
It might make you pick your pace up just a
little bit when you see one, but it's usually kind
of fun to see them.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah, I know you and Van of both Avid speaking
of you know, new starts from running. We've talked to
you know, Jack Pilgrim. We talked a whole lot of
UK men's basketball. Be looking forward to the game of
Duke on Tuesday, And I know you're a Kenny Books
fan of Vana fall as women's basketball. He falls all sports.
Women's basketball is probably next next baby, second after football

(08:20):
the way he talks about it. We got Wolford at home.
We got Wolford at home at six pm on Tuesday.
But before we have our next show, we're gonna have
our first probably challenge under Kenny Brooks to get his Louisville.
But Larrybody, I did. I knew you talked to us
about the size that we have. We knew that Georgia
Amore was gonna do her thing. But the six foot

(08:41):
six foot five, six foot seven a sophomore freshman sophomore
combination women have been have been doing pretty well. Are
you surprised at that?

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Now?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Not really?

Speaker 7 (08:54):
I think the only thing that surprised me.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
I don't know how Van would feel, but what Kenny
Brooks said he was gonna play him together.

Speaker 7 (09:00):
I didn't have any doubt that he would. I just
didn't know how much how fast he was gonna play
them together.

Speaker 6 (09:06):
That didn't take long for him to get him in
there together, and he's left them in there and you
can see, I think Van that they've got a pretty
good chemistry already. When You've got six seven and sixty
five players that can make shots and tasks the ball
to each other and stuff. It's just a dimension that
Kentucky women's basketball has never had, and I think it's
gonna make it for a really really fun season to watch.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting that we finally, I mean
since I've been paying attention to the UK women's basketball
since ninety three, that we actually have SEC size.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Now.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
We lost some two young ladies in the preseason with
injuries that would have definitely have the depth, so we
don't have the depth out that we have. But the
fresh one from Portugal, as I mean, she's impressive Astraca.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I didn't expect that all of her so early. They
have made the game easy on Georgia right now because
she is not She's not looked at us having having
to carry a teat this year, which is impressive because
once SEC time comes around, she will be looked onto
the carriers.

Speaker 6 (10:15):
Yeah, and I think she's just kind of content to
sit back and just kind of watch those other players
carry the team right now, dam which I think is
a pretty impressive thing.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, It's Look, there's nothing better than having the guard
that I don't have to, especially a point guard.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I don't have to be.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
I don't have to score and lead the team. If
I have two big girls down there there that are cooking,
and I can just bring the ball up, make sure
I feed them enough to keep them happy until that
game where it's going to require me to score thirty.
It makes it easy on my body, ease on my mentals.
I don't think people understand how difficult it is to

(10:53):
drive the ball up then timed into the court every
time for an entire game.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
And Larry Vaughter, I do kind of uh and I
ad and I have faith in Kenny Brooks, his coach
and his expertise, and it's just his ability to get
the players to understand his concept and his scheme. I
think Georgia is gonna get more zoned in. I think
once we get in SEC, he plays a little bit
more physical. You got the coaching minds in SEC now

(11:20):
it's just ridiculous, Like I don't know, I mean you
anything to do with ad Gino Arima. And we may have,
we may just have all all the best coaching minds
ever in the history of u SEC. But I think
with when you talk about the foreigner Clara Silva Clara Stretch,
so both of them are the same, and the fact

(11:41):
that she's not American. It might be Clara, I know,
I worked with the woman who was not American and so,
but they both I guess will be pronounced as Claire
Claire Straking, Claire Silva. Uh. When we're talking about the
sixty five six four sec five and sixty seven uh
ciners Uh. The thing I kind of worry about, not
really worry about, Larry, but I think it's gonna be

(12:01):
a transition once we get into the SEC and they
are the girls are young. They are long, but they
are young and just getting position to be able to
be close enough that their size is going to be
an advantage. Once you get an SEC. They're not gonna
let you get your positions. Are they gonna be savvy
enough to get on the blocks? Are they gonna be
savage enough to move around that they can be close
to the basket so that Georgia can find them? And

(12:24):
that's kind of gonna be the transition I'm gonna be
looking forward to. Is that a concern with them being young,
a new team being put together that once they getting
SEC played that's gonna be a transition as well, that
they some things they haven't seen.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Well.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
I think we'll find out some of that this Saturday
when they play Louisville. I think Louisville'll try to take
away some of the things, just like what you're talking about.
And I think, and it is Clara Clara Silva to me,
the jury's a little bit more still out on her.
I don't know what Dan would think, but I think
strack of heel to get in there and beat and
bang or finesse whatever she has to do or beat

(12:59):
some down the floor to be just fine in the
sec But but Silva may still want to see a
little bit more because she is kind of thin and
not not really real strong yet, I don't think.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
But she's hustle six seven.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
He could Stellas reach up and block a shot or
shoots that little fall away over top of you, so
it may not matter.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Yeah, and and and they both have face up games,
so I'm I'm not sure if Silva is a I mean,
she is a true center with a back to the basket,
but she does have a face up game, which I'm
not sure that she's gonna she's gonna have to be
as physical now on the defensive end is when it's
gonna I think hurt her a little more because because

(13:41):
those girls are gonna come at her a little bit
harder than this probably she's used to. But I think
offensively she has a good offensive game. That that that
that is gonna be as much of a problem now.
It's gonna be an adjustment, but I don't I don't
think it's gonna be as much of a problem as
as it could be if she's just a strictly back
to the basket past player.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Larry Vaught, we can only because we got two minutes,
so we got abreviated session. Only because we've got two minutes,
we led to show up. And Van and I hit
on this a little bit too as well. Mark Stoops
has recommitted itself. Some people taking this different ways of
Ben Housen and I had a long conversation on Wednesday
night with our with our followers on our podcast. But

(14:19):
it seems that people are thinking that Mark Stoops sounds
like he's on his way out the door. When I'm
told he's recommitting himself to what he started when he
first got here. I don't I know you follow what
do you take of Mark stuups and how does the
fan receive his last message last couple of messages, I
should say, I.

Speaker 7 (14:37):
Think I'm I'm like you had that.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
I was a little surprise that as many of my
friends and people that I know took it to sound like, well.

Speaker 7 (14:42):
Stoops, he's scheduled, just throw it in, you can tell.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
And I took account of the opposite way that No,
he's wanting to straighten some things out and try to
make things better for twenty twenty five. My only concern
is he just wanting to do it for one year
so he can walk away without having to say, Okay,
finish up for the four and eight. That's not accept
I want to come back and get things back on
the right track, and then I might be.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
Content to walk away.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
If that's the case, then I think he ought to
walk away now because of all the changes you got
coming in college football, you need to start getting things
ready for several years.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
So if he's.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Recommitted and rejuvenated for the next four or five years,
like his contract says, didn't roll with that. But if
he thinks he just wants to come back for one year,
and I think that.

Speaker 7 (15:24):
Might be a mistake. But I'm with you, guys.

Speaker 6 (15:27):
I think to me it sounded more like there's no
way he's walking away from this.

Speaker 7 (15:30):
But a lot of my friends took it just the opposite.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Larry Boy. We got about fifteen seconds really quickly, cuter Bowley.
Does he start or get Does he start or does
he come up? The bitch against Murray.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
I'm going to go and make my prediction will be
that he will start.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
And then to say, real quick update for you, my
grandson seventh three A team want to be playing in
the state seventh grade championship Saturday at LCA.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Oh, there we go. I'm like, I'm gonna come check
him out. I'm gonna come. Let you know, young please do,
please do. That is the great Larry Vaught. We will
be back after this year. Listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday
Morning sports Talk on news radio six thirty w l
a P.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
This is the home of the Wildcats. Six thirty w
l a P.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Van howse Uh. This our Sunday morning
sports talk that's brought to you by a Country Boy Brewing.
Thanks to Larry Vauflers taking a pit stop after his
run and got a run from the hotel. Hopefully his
key will keep continue to work until he checks out.

(16:46):
Thanks Hilarry Vaut for joining us dropping some knowledge on
this van house. We did talk pretty I ain't gonna
say extensively, but we have discussed. I think until we
see our Kenny Brooks and the women's squad against Liliviolle,
there's I don't think there's a whole lot of questions
optimism is going to maintain. Our men's team has a

(17:06):
lot of optimisms coming across. We will see learn a
lot more against Duke Cooper. Flag is too young to
play against these veterans and Mark Pope's skim schematic things
that he's going to do. So I'm not really concerned
about that. But the optimism with your cats, your former cats,
is maybe there. I know we talked Wednesday with our

(17:28):
followers on the podcast as far as how this season
will end. What is the temperature with our fan base
and Mark Stoops But I know you hard hit it,
but were you convinced that we There was one particular
following that was convinced that we could vieaw Texas. Is

(17:50):
there any possible way that we we finished three and
Ohero and Combo eligible for the what nine time row?
Maybe I think something like that.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
I would say this anthey in the in the in
the great year of nineteen hundred and ninety six, we
got the great coach Curry fired and I think we
were one and six at the time, and somehow we
rather out three straight.

Speaker 5 (18:23):
Wins in a row.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I don't think anyone.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
In that building thought that was gonna happen. So could
it happened, Sure, will it happen?

Speaker 2 (18:32):
I highly dobt it.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
I just don't think here's here's the caveat that that
I didn't believe was gonna happen. That's happening right now.
Texas right now is at the top of the SEC rankings.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
With one loss.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Right they have a chance to get to that C
Championship game with one loss. I feel strongly that the
two teams that are in the SEC Championship game are
gonna get to the playoffs. So therefore, this little game
against US is not going to be overlooked, like if
a possibility, it could be overlooked with Texas and them
following US, I don't think it's gonna happen. So because

(19:08):
of that, I don't think we're gonna be able to
go to Austin and shot the Longhorns like we shot
the Rebels.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
I just don't see it. Well, here's the question that
a lot of people are asking, football wise, is that
I know you and I really don't football man, just
because we understand what it takes a I don't care
what you did yesterday or you know what you did
with somebody else. You got tango with me. Uh, Now

(19:37):
we beat the man who beat the man. There is
there any we beat the man who beat the man?
Is there any I mean, you get any pause to well,
hold on? Now this team and we getting we getting Max,
We get Max Harrison back, We about to unleash, we
about the unleashed cut her bowling. There gotta be some

(19:58):
type of optimism. Like I said, if Mark Pope is
about to go do something to do and then everybody's
gonna be up and here we go, number nine. Number
nine is gonna be owned that Kenny Brooks is already
you know, and he got to go in his Maulky Staley. Uh,
the girl that got work. Uh, you know what I'm
talking about, but we so we got Yeah, that's what

(20:23):
I was thinking, Old Miss. Yeah, old Miss, so we
there's a lot of optimism. I'm saying you, you've had
such bad years. I think you got PTSD where you
know you're losing what thirteen games or thirteen games in
the row.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
You you were part of this program too during those times.
So don't don't don't put it out on me. But okay, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I only lost the louis A game with you in
the Indian game, with you on Alabama game and then
that was that was my history. But no, but no,
in all honesty, like is there I think there's there's
something to be salvage there because, like you said, the
old Miss, that Old Miss winners is pretty big. If

(21:05):
we knock off Old Miss and Texas, uh huh, not
saying that we're gonna I don't know. If we beat
our miss in Texas, we should obviously beat uh what
we have to be there. If we beat Texas, we
should obviously beat Louisville with that six and six with
the win of an old Miss and Texas and whatever
Louisville was gonna be ranking. That does that salvage some

(21:26):
of the seasons.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
No, zero, it actually and it actually makes it worse
anthem if you think about it and in retrospect, when
you look when you look back on the season, and
let's say we we went out. Let's just say we
went out and and we beat Texas and we beat Louell. Right,
so you beat two of the best teams in the

(21:48):
conference on the road, but you couldn't beat some of
these other teams, the lesser teams at home. That that
just makes this year kind of like the would have
could have should a year If we gonna beat those
two teams on the road, why can we beat South
Carolina ARBN at home? Like that? That would make it like, well,
we had every opportunity to be a playoff team this

(22:11):
year if we just handle business at home, but unfortunately
we couldn't win the game that we should have won.
But we won the game that we shouldn't have won.
If it makes it worse in my opinion as a fan, well,
we're speaking from a fast perspective that it would be
hard for me as a fan to really be a
zuper about beating two teams in a row, but we
can't win a game at home.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, but I guess I say that upon the heels
of Mark Stoops, rededicating himself and saying, look, I'm gonna
like he get these guys. You're right, there has to
be there has to be the chatter, There has to
be the uh, the concerns that, well, why what the
hell are you saving it for? That's you know, that's
always have a huge problem with basketball coaches and football

(22:55):
coaches who saved timeouts, like if you are losing, how
do you lose a game? And my neighbors who's a
basketball sovon, he's a woman who taught me that. I mean,
y'all knowst a game and your coach had to how
do you lose a game and you keep time out? Like,
there's no way you should lose a game with ti
him out. You didn't. You didn't at no point did
you say, hey, I need to talk to him. No.
But there are coaches like cal who says, what I know,

(23:17):
you didn't call no time out because you you ain't
exits and o's what I'm gonna call time out for
the whole world is looking at me. Now. They got
the camera zoom in on your clipboard and you're not
drawing that. All you said is rebound rebound, So so
that's kind of so where I'm at. I mean, I
know you drive a hard bargain man. Like I said,
I think you got PTSD, so there ain't no way.

(23:40):
But not I'm actually the same thing. I asked Larry
Vaulton and I asked uh Jack Tilgrim earlier. Uh Mark
stut has said he's gonna recommit himself. He's gonna rededicate
himself to the program and to his mission. Here you buying,
are selling.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
I'm selling because you you should have recommitted yourself after
you after TEXTA, A.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
And M deal.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Why are we gonna recommit ourselves in week ten? You know, like, like,
what what made you think to recommit in week nine
and in the bye week?

Speaker 2 (24:12):
What?

Speaker 3 (24:13):
What what was going through your head is this would
be a nice time to recommit myself to the program.
I don't think that's what he was saying. But but
the way you are saying it right now, I'm I'm
I'm not buying it.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
He's he, he is human, he is human. We give
him that he is human. I will I'm gonna, I'm
gonna throw this at you. Maybe I think there's a
strong possibility. I think there's a strong, extremely strong possibility
that he feels at this point, well, why does it
take this long? I have no idea, but I think

(24:49):
he's here in the fan base. I think he may
be reevaluated. And I tell you what we did. We
talked about this on Wednesday, and like I know, there's
gonna be people on Twitter. Why are you always trying
to come to March studid. I don't need to come
this nine million dollar rescue. I got bills to pay
him behind on some bills. He he me supporting him
or the program doesn't benefit me any way. It doesn't

(25:10):
benefit this show because people they don't like negativity on
this show, and they else really don't want to hear
you support cal or Mark Stoops because Mark Stoups ain't
hasn't been doing the right thing. I will say this
Van House, I have lost a parent. Larry Vault was on.
Therefore he has lost his parents. You have now you
have both yours, fortunately, and I'm glad. I'm happy for
that that that may have been a thing. What are

(25:33):
you living for now? Is there some is there some
mortality to you now? Where you got nine million dollars?
I know he lost his dad, at the young age,
and he fought through. That's probably why he persevered to
become the man he is. He and Bob Pope now Mike,
on the other hand, I don't know, but I think
that that has something to do with when you're saying
why at this time, I think a lot of things

(25:53):
came to the forefront, like I got nine million dollars,
But what do I have left at the end of
the day of life marriage? You're not married anymore. You
lost this last piece of your to me, my mother
will probably be the last piece of my fibrates now
that my father's not here. I think that could be
the recommitment. So what am I living for? Is this

(26:14):
money gonna make me happy at the end of the day.
I don't have a marriage, I don't have a mother.
What am I coaching for? Are you coaching for yourself?
Are you coaching for these kids? Are you coaching for
the money? And everybody thinks it's the money. I just say,
just from some of the things I've heard, I think
he's recommitting himself because I think he kind of has
I don't know what Jardan that he's woke up and

(26:35):
felt like, you know what, man Dan, they on my
head out here, like the fan base is spoke. No,
they're not pulling the joker Phillips where the stadium wasn't
gonna have twenty thousand people or less twelve thousand people.
But I think either the combination of the two. But
I think he does feel like, Man, I don't know
if they gonna keep me around here. If I don't,

(26:56):
you know, if I don't do something different were before.
I think he was just comfortable with the money, maybe
eight wins, you know, just a lifestyle where his whole
life has changed in the past month.

Speaker 5 (27:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
No, Look, if I'm gonna take the fan hat on
and talk from a former player standpoint is there are
a lot of things. There are a lot of variables
that have happened recently that will make you want to
and it's not a recommitment. It is a it is
we have gotten to a point where now what I
did to get us to the point is not gonna work.

(27:29):
And we have talked about this many times. I think
he felt he got to the edge of recruiting Nil
Portal and I think he went He's realized he went
too far with that with that thought process or how
he's gonna make this team better. How to get to
the eleventh win, how to get to ten regular season

(27:51):
win total. I think he realized that that way is
not the way to get there. Now, let's reassess the
situation and what what of points of the fork and
the road that I go the wrong way? And that
was a point in twenty twenty one. After twenty twenty
one season, I think he realized, Okay, let me retract
it that year and let's try to build from that

(28:12):
point forward. There were some things that were done from
that point on that I think he wants to reevaluate.
If the change.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
I'm not agree with you, because, like I said, he
was fortunate enough to have the Benny Snails of the
world that he had to He had to Kelvin Joseph,
Yo boy down that way. You had those type. You
have those guys, and you remember the uproar and the
and I'm even from me, the Kevin Joseph didn't want
to play in the Bowl game and all these and
that was pre and I all that was pre and
I so now you know, coming from where you got,

(28:45):
Benny Snail's playing for you guys. Uh uh. Terry Wilson
playing through and you know you had guys playing through
injuries because you know they want to they want to
produce w's and the wins column. Uh to now where
we're at, where guys gotta have playing time, gotta have targets,
to have nil, gotta have all these things. It is
a change. I'm not with Larry Vault where he says
he leaves before we go into the new landscape. No,

(29:07):
I think he needs to set a base for the
new landscape. When we changed to being employees of the
University of Van House, we got to go ahead to
a break because when we come out, we're gonna close
the show. I don't want to put us in a
short window. So we've had to break. We'll continue this
conversation close out. After this, you're listening to Stockyards Bank
Sunday when Sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Welcome back Stockyards Banks Sunday Money Sports Talk. I mean
you're white along with Van House, the Van House cornerback
Man House. You gave football, NFL, Chicckle Bears, Saint Louis Rams,
Van House, the Fund breakdown Van House. I'm just Anthony White.
But the phone lines are active, big ass fans, home
line phone lines are active. So let's get over there

(29:54):
and see what Bluegrass has to say. Good morning, blue Rents.
What do you got for us to going? Fellas it's going?

Speaker 5 (30:02):
Let's slip a little bit to basketball, like you know,
like my mom told me, if you can't say nothing
good about somebody, don't say nothing at all. So we'll
skip football all.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Together and go straight to basketball.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
I tell you what. Up here in the mountains of Easter, Kentucky,
we are all in on Mark Pope. Just listening to
him in the press conferences. I can't get enough. And
so now I'm telling you I can't get enough the
way he articulates everything I was so used to that.
Let's don't let go of the rope and best version
of yourself and if we played hard like it's just

(30:35):
a breath of fresh air. My man.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Well, well we appreciate that, Bluegrass. I'm looking forward to
see what we're gonna do against do Thank you for
the call. That is, Ben, how that is where we
haven't talked to UK basketball yet. I mean, obviously you
are like Bluegrass. You ain't got nothing good to say
abo our football team, so I'm not gonna allow you
to say anything else about our football team. It reminds
me of Steve Harror in Kings of Comedy, when he

(31:02):
told North Carolina fans that a lot of the news
about your football team ain't been cut news, and that's
how you come across. But are you? Are you anxious?
So are you gonna watch the duke? I know you
talked mostly about Olympic sports, uh, women's basketball football? You
for some reason, maybe because everybody reports on UK basketball

(31:24):
you don't. You don't have a lot to say about it.
But hey, this is a new beginning. You were school
with Mark Pope, just like I was working one year. Yeah, yeah, Mark.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I think Mark came in ninety four, right.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
No, he's gonna hear two years.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
Yeah. I think he came in ninety four, ninety five,
That's what I'm saying. I don't think he was here
in ninety three.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
He won a national championship, so he was on the
ninety sixteen.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
So he came in lost in ninety seven, Okay, okay, whatever, Yeah, Yeah,
I was yeah, I was there on him in ninety six.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
I know that.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Okay, okay, so he was here in ninety five, ninety sixteen.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Are you in on them or you're gonna throw You're
gonna throw dirt on his name too.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
I don't throw dirt.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
I'm just look, here's here's the deal with me is
let's see whatever. Because everybody is all gung hold right
now because it's fresh and new. You got a new car.
It's all dandy until that, until that, until that warrant
runs out. Right when the warranting runs out in the
car steaks, I can't believe about this car. So let's

(32:30):
let's wait, let's see what happens. Let's let's let the
year play out. I don't get on coaches when it's
the beginning of the season and it's not going as
as we plan or Irvis beginning season is going great.
Let's just see what it is what it is when
we get the sec play, and then I'll give a
more more critical analysis of it. I'll say this, I

(32:52):
like what I'm seeing. Let's see if this continues with
with better competition.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
So banned.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
When my car warrantine expires, are you gonna call me
extending the warrantine? Because I'm expecting a call from you.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Isn't that the worst email call when you when you
you've had the call for three years and you feel
like you only had it for a year.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yeah, they call you.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
He extend a warrants extra five thousand bucks.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Well, Anthony and I we've been joking the last few
weeks about the Kentucky football bandwagon and how it's just
all broken and we got to get a new catalytic converter,
and we got to get this, and we gotta get that. Well,
the warranty has expired on the bandwagon.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
But you know what we call even when you don't
own a vehicle anymore.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
Though that's true as far as Mark Pope, Hey, just
let me enjoy this why I can because I am, Oh.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
For sure it is. It is a pretty brand of basketball.
Their movement, we're getting open shots. I'm gonna say this
man bread is is is looking like, uh, the best
fine in the portal that we have had in a
long time. I don't know, I don't know if any
of his shots have hit the rim if it goes in.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
You do know you're from the Bayou, so you could
appreciate that. Mike mud after rau Aka Chris Jackson has
a TRETS and he used to stay in the gym.
He would shoot a hundred make one hundred makes, but
it is one hundred makes without the ball touching the
rim because he is like all the shots were happening.

(34:27):
The only ones who counted the ball didn't touch the
rim at all. Exactly.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Yeah, no, he he was he was due. He was
so unbelievable. I went to a lot of those games
at l s U. It do the things that he
has that he did LSU was ridiculous. I'm talking about.
This is a portal guy whom I know a lot
of people were not I know, I'm on a lot
of the boards. There are a lot of people who
were not quote unquote happy with that pick up. They

(34:53):
wanted somebody else. So he has proven himself to be valuable.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Man. Thank you for your time, man, Thank you must
fill in, Thanks for being patient with this man, and
thanks the thanks to the lady down the hall who
let me right back in. I didn't have to go
back down to the front desk that there was nobody
standing there at all anyways when I came back in,
And thank you all for listening. Thanks to Jack Pilgrim.
Thanks the man. How Thanks Larry var Man, I'm glad
you made it through. Larry Vob making home. We're gonna

(35:20):
check our little Cody's game over there at LCA. Both
Robinson Man, thank you for being the man, not the
man next to the man. You are the man. Thank you.
