Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead troop Boards Radio Network on six point thirty w.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
LAP, along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vupp, coming to
you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios and downtown. Let's
stay Kentucky. No football this week, but basketball is off
and running kicked off and a lot of things went
on this week. But before we get to that, Larry Vaupp,

(00:29):
how are you this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I'm doing wonderful, my friend, that beautiful, beautiful weather. Got
to watch good football game Friday night. I got to
watch but dan Vila Admirals will win another game, and
got to see my grandson probably play the best game
I've seen him play yesterday in the conference championship game
for his eighth grade team up at Role. So I

(00:53):
had a good weekend and got finally come home and
watch a lot of the clips and highlights from a
real night over to Reparena last night.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So you, uh, so you did get to watch some
good football this year this fall?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
I did?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I did. I've seen several good games on Friday night
and on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. So I've watched my
grandson play, So I have seen some good ones.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yes, And uh, how so you said another game is
down for only two games in two three years or
you just said another game as if they won multiple
or they only won two this year.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
I haven't kept up.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I know they are now seven and one this year
and quite a turnaround.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Are they back to the old Danville?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Let's don't get let's don't jump that quite that far,
but at least the path is getting back to where
it could be now. And I don't know if they'll
ever get back to the old Danville, because those were
some pretty amazing years that they had, but they are
definitely making progress from where they've been.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
In the last few years. And before we get to Jack.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I don't know why this is always on my mind
or whatever or I'm so interested, But have you checked
on Dolly?

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Is there any updates?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yes, And as I said last week, I think the
worry that she was fear of, she was not near
as bad office what her sister had seemed to imply
in the post that she had made, as the folks
out there had told me that she was going to
be okay, And I think the last I saw was
that she basically had kidney stones and just had to

(02:28):
rest a while.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
Because if you've ever.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Had kidney stones, I had at a very young age,
and I don't know that I could survive on myself
right now if I had them again at this age,
because at a young age, I thought, oh my goodness.
So but yeah, I think Dolly is doing.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Fine, good deal.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I'm glad to hear that I was a bit concerned,
quite a concern, but I didn't have the connections same
that you have to to get the insight, uh, Jack Pilgrim,
good morning to you, and I've probably been a pretty
action packed week for you, and hopefully you got some
because there ain't much to talk about on football. Even
if we did have a game, there wouldn't be much
to talk about. But basketball was off and running, and

(03:06):
I think everybody's excited about it.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Jack.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
So this is what it's supposed to feel like on
a Sunday morning, man, Like I just I feel re energized,
I feel rejuvenated. This is it's a good feeling, Anthony.
I woke up on the right side of the bed
and life is good here in good old Shelbyville, Kentucky.
So yeah, we're we're.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
We're enjoying how night. Last night went.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
Quite a bit that they actually started with a little
trip to to Gallerin Farms down here in Shelbyville. Got to,
you know, spend some time with the pumpkin patch with
little men and my wife and it was that was awesome.
The night before we did Boo at the Zoo with
some some family members, so got to you know, kind
of embrace the October Halloween e season. And then last night, Man,

(03:55):
that was just all time, big blue madness. I just
loved it from every second from start to finish and
all the surprises and twists and turns that came with it. Man,
I really thought that Mark Pope and company did just
an absolutely magnificent job. And I'm very excited to talk
about it, and I'm very excited to not talk about

(04:16):
the doom and gloom stuff on the other side of
the aisle. So, man, it's a good morning.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
And to get things started, I saw a couple videos,
pictures and some people have attendance. I kind of want
to start there with which former players coaches. I saw Toby,
I saw Wayne Turner, saw John Wall, saw Alan Networks.
There's a couple of people I saw, but I'm quite
certain there was a lot more people that may not

(04:44):
got photo ops or TV time.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Yeah, and you can't lump John Wall, and you know,
love all of the people that you named, but yeah,
John Wall was the standalone. He was the headliner. He
was the the main attraction. So, you know, when you
become a Big Blue Madness icon the way John Wall
did back in two thousand and nine, the viral moment

(05:09):
with his dance and you know, kind of becoming this
larger than life figure in the snap of a finger,
like he that was his coming out party, that was
his welcome to superstart a moment, and you know, he
used that moment to just catapult himself into an on
court superstar and just kind of it's really hard to

(05:30):
do at Kentucky to have the level of height that
he had coming in, you know, surpass it by having
kind of like owning the stage of Big Blue Madness,
the tip off party to the season, and then one
up that as a season, goes on as a superstar
on the floor and win all a bunch of games
and become the number one pick and then become a

(05:52):
you know, multi All Star and all NBA talent, so
like he's just the perfect embodiment of Kentucky basketball and
more importantly doing it for Mark Pope. You know, he's
a John Caliperry guy, the first John Caliperry guy at
Kentucky to just bridge that gap and be the hey,
we can all, you know, celebrate one another and it

(06:15):
doesn't matter if you played for Tubby or Rick or
Cal or Billy g anybody that wants to be here.
And then you know, remember what it means to be
a Kentucky Wildcat. We're happy to welcome you back with
open arms. And John Wall needed to be that person.
So man, what a night it was for him and
for Mark Pope and John Wall to do the John

(06:35):
Wall dance together during the intros, all sorts of good
nostalgia bringing us back sixteen years two thousand and nine.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So may what a moment and Larry vad does. Does
Mark Pope just get that or is the UK thing?
Is this something? Because exactly what Jack said the first
thing I thought of it, and I don't. I'm not
certain that there has been any division between Calip Perry era,
but I though there's questions, even I have questions or
you know, same thing with Mummy era, of Brooks era
and now the Stoops era that I think there's a

(07:05):
tone that people for, oh you play for this coach,
so they feel some type of way or other. But Mark, immediately,
to me, I think he did it perfectly. He didn't
play for Tubby. Tubby was gone. I mean he was
gone before Tubby got here. So he had Tubby, which is,
you know, a fan favorite, John Wall which is fan favorite,
like we're all Kentucky at the end of the day,
with no matter where you finish your career at And

(07:27):
he did it, as Jack eloquently stated, he did a
magnificent job of just ignoring all that, just blending everything
together for an exciting night. Is that a Mark Pope
thing or is that something you think that anybody could do.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Or would do.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
That's definitely Mark Pope thing. That's just Mark. He embraces
everything about Kentucky, whether you played here in nineteen fifty
six or twenty twenty four. He's going to welcome you
in with open arms like that and wants you included
and embraces the history everything that goes with it. And
I thought having John wallback was magnificent. I thought having

(08:05):
Tubby there was terrific. I thought having Rick Patino there
last year was a great thing. I think I thought
having former teammates there when he got introduced as to
head coach. He just gets it. And even with things
don't always go as well as anticipated, which Bow might
be able to elaborate off a little bit later in
the show, it don't work out perfect. Mark's heart's always

(08:26):
in the right spot. I think he just gets it
with all of that, and he also just gets it
with the fans. So that's just a mark that was
here thirty years ago when I watched him play at Kentucky,
and that's the mark that if he's still here coaching
in twenty years, I don't think he'll be a bit different.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
I agree with that.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
The one thing that did take me by surprise, and
maybe Jack can clear up for me, is aj Jellvick.
I didn't know that the guy had a stroke. And
maybe it's just because it's fun time everybody shoot around.
But I knew Colin can fill it up, a new
trick can shoot. I mean, you know Jalen and uh Jasper,
But but aj Man was knocking those things down in

(09:04):
the three. Is that something is that part of his
game or is that just something they're just doing for
a big boot madness.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's that's the one of the main
main attractions.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
That's what makes Yelly Yelly Jelly Yella.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
He's got a j He's got a bunch of different nicknames,
but uh yeah, he's he's all European.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
He is all skill, all uh you know, savvy.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
That that's what he brings to the table. He's a
he's a high i Q highly highly highly skilled forward.
And that's why you're you drool over yourself, you know,
thinking of him and a Mark Pope offense.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
That's why you know, I kind of talked about.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Him as like the you know, if things go as
playing as kind of an Andrew Carr potential upgrade. If
if he hits, it's because he's hitting shots at a
high clip. It's because he's you know, got the footwork
and the know the high IQ to you know, you know,
take take the offense to a whole different planet. So yeah,
he's that. That is exactly what I was expecting of him.

(10:09):
I mean, maybe not to be you know, neck and
neck with Trent Noah, because I'm that high on Trent
Noah as a show shooter, but I knew he'd be
in that three point contest and compete with the best
of them.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
But yeah, I did.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
To beat Cam Williams, to beat you know, Jasper, to
beat some of these other guys, that is a tall
task and he did it and looked pretty darn good.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
And I think like he was just he's a month
removed from being in.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Croatia and you know, this is his first time experiencing
BBN in that building for the very first time, and
for him to just go out there and be like whatever,
make make shots at that rate, it did kind of
have that same vibe as h is one big z
going out there for the Georgia game and just go
going nuclear in his first time, just kind of a

(10:55):
who cares, Yeah, this is what I do.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
So yeah, good on him.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
He had a great performance, but is one of many
very very impressive performances over the night.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
If you would like to join the show, or if
you attend a Big Blue Mattness Colin, tell us let
us know what you thought about or the fan experience,
which is the first year for that. Jack, We're gonna
have to talk a little bit about that. But if
you like to join the show via phone eight five
nine to eight zero two two eight seven eight five
nine to eight zero cats. We will continue the show
after this year. Listening to Dockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports

This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught. Stockyards Bank
is a trusted partner, says nineteen hundred and four, So
head on over to syb dot com for all your
banking and financial needs. Now bot, Who is the young
man that I was listening to that introduced Trent Eastern

(11:59):
can Take singing legend Jordan Smith from the voice It
was cool. I mean, we knew there was going to
be all kinds of surprises, but I don't know. I'm
old school. I love when people just come out from
the bottom of a stage with pyro and singing, and
Jordan Smith was just really cool to hear him sing
You'll Never leave Harlane Alive with Trent Noah.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I just thought that was so cool.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And has a very good voice. Obviously that's why he
was on the Voice. But right, but that's not his
original song though, No, it was Patty Loveless, I believe. Okay,
Jack Piel, how do you like the song? How did
you like the introduction of him bringing his own It's
kind of like one of our former UK players, Bobby Blizzard,

(12:48):
who did he have music Soul Child sung as he
walked down the aisle with his wife on the island.
You got music Soul Child singing for you. So it's
kind of like that, you bring your own singer. I
think that's pretty neat. That may be one of the
biggest surprises ever for me, Jack, Yeah, that.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
Was that was next here, Like there were a lot
of little individual moments to kind of create the big
moment of the Blue Madness just being one of my
favorites in recent memory. Obviously John Walls stole the headlines,
but then you know, deservedly so.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
But there was there.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Was something special about you know, Jordan Smith, winner of
the Voice singing that song about that town with Trent
Noah on the other side of that stage like that,
it was it was just a moment, like you you
felt it. It was the polished and you know, just
kind of the opening line of the song, the iconic

(13:44):
opening line of the song that everybody knows trend.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Noah comes out the other side.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
They introduced Trend and then they he sings it kind
of you know, standing right there next next to Trent
down to the you know You'll never leave Harlan alive.
It was just goose foms Man chills. Just send a
sence chills down your spine.

Speaker 6 (14:02):
It was.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
It was really really well done.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
But it was one of many just really creative and
unique and personality filled moments of the player intros like
Jasper Johnson. You know, mister TikTok, don't you know, so
all the dances, all the crazy you know, young kids
stuff that that he gets himself into, like letting Mark Pope,

(14:26):
letting him embody that on the stage, let him get
after it and you know, film some Tiktoks and be
be crazy and dance and wild, and you know that's
how it should be.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
He's he's a kid.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
That's his big blue madness moment where you know, he
dreamed of doing that his his entire life, finally gets
that chance to be up on stage. Why not let
him kind of cut loose and be himself. That's what
this is all about. And you know Andrea Yelovitch wearing
his Croatian flag on his back and showing kind of
his with his own roots, you know, thousands of miles away,

(14:56):
and just you go down the list all the way
down to Zach tow wearing a cowboy coming out of
the bottom of the stage.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
It's just insane.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
There's so many cool little individual moments, but the biggest
pop of the night should not surprise you. It was
none other than one Otega oway Man to close out
the player intros. That was just you know, you know
you got a superstar in your hands when you have one,
and that was definitely the same feel of getting him back.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
He's like Oscar shee Way coming back for you too.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
Let me throw out a ton of respect for Jordan Smith,
because you've got twenty thousand Kentucky fans going nuts on
Big Blue Madness and you're elevating from the bottom of
a stage up to sing that song perfectly with fire
around you and everything else. And I thought he did
a hell of a job with it, a hell of
a job. Big Blue Madness was like part of a

(15:45):
kiss concert in all Kentucky basketball last night, and I
loved every minute of it.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
It did Goyle Larry.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
As we say, Jack one of the highlights of that song.
I didn't quite understand it now. But the shot that
Cam Williams hit from mid court won somebody ten thousand dollars.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
What was that?

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Was something new for madness, wasn't it?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Okay? Yeah, we got to talk about that. So that
was weird. That was bizarre.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
That was kind of a so to be fair to
the fan that brought they brought a fan out from
the stands to shoot the half court shot for twenty
five thousand dollars. It did not go well for the fan.
He shot four of them and none of them were
remotely close. But to the fans credit Tubby Smith, John Wall,

(16:37):
and every other big name icon in Kentucky basketball history
was standing right there crowding him on the floor. Could
you hit any either of you can any of the
people listening to the show? Could you be able on
the spot hit a half court shot in front of
all of these people? Probably not. It would not shock
me if all of us airballed every shot which we

(16:59):
tried with the pressure of having all of those people
standing right next to us. So I got to give
the fansom grace, but it was not a performance he
will personally remember and love for the rest of his life.
So he gets four tries. I think at the half
court shot. It started at twenty five thousand dollars. I

(17:21):
think after the first two that cut that, and then
Mark Pope jumped on the mic and said, all right,
well you're not going to get the twenty five thousand,
but I'll give you five grand of my own.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Personal money if you make this shot.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
He doesn't, and then I think Mark Pope kind of
reading the room and going, okay, we're starting to get
a little restless with this. Let's pivot here. He goes
all right, Cam Williams, if you can make this shot,
I'm going to give this fan five thousand dollars of
my own money. And Cam Williams steps up again in
front of all the pressure, in front of all the legends,

(17:53):
and first try and nails it, I mean, just the
easiest shot of his life, just totally ice in his veins,
drills it and gets the fan the five thousand dollars.
So I don't I think you know, did the fan
actually earn that money.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
I don't know. I don't know Cam Williams earned it
for him, so good good for him.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
But it was you know, some Mark Pope fronted the
five K four Cam Williams to give to give the
fan after making the half court shot.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
That that's how it all unfolded.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Larry Vaught, he just went through all of that after
initially saying how can you make a shot like that?
And you know, the guy didn't have his defensives whill
he didn't have on shoes. It was slippery out there,
so he couldn't get any grip to hoist it. They were,
as Jack said, were not even close at all. But
Cam just steps up there, and Jack makes a singer
who could just step up and make a half court
shot without aw net, no warm up, and it was live,

(18:47):
so it's not like it was it was manufacturing.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
It was live.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
But yeah, I mean, I thought, just watching when I
saw that was one of the coolest big Blue Badness moments.
I could remember that the coach did offers that and
then the canvas knocked it down. It's like it's like
it's a layup. But then the reaction of all the
teammates Jacket won the national championship. When he made that shot,
that was really kind of fun to see too.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Hold that thought. We got to hit a break. We'll
continue this conversation when we come back. You are listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on News Radio
six thirty WLP.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead troop for it to Radio Network on six
thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White,
along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim. This hour of
Sunday Morning Sports Talk has brought to you by Country
Boy Brewing Larry Vaut. I know you got to watch
some highlights and we got to watch some of the replay,
and I know you absolutely watched the intros, and we
talked about the intros at the beginning at the top

(19:52):
of the show. The one thing that absolutely surprised me
and Jack talked about it. But I know, you know
a little bit more about this young man then most people,
and I know his dad very well, actually played football
with his dad. But were you not surprised or do
you think Jasper is coming out of his shell? Because
I could never. I would never in a million years

(20:14):
imagine him just cutting loose in front of It's just
in front of how many thousands, tens of thousands of people.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
But he looked pretty comfortable.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
We got a little bit of moves to him, but
I would just never expect him to do that out
of everybody on the team, especially being a freshman.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yeah, I'm with you. And obviously he must have his
mother's dance. His dance got nothing like that, and his
uncle Derek's got nothing like that, So it has to
come from his mom's side of the family there for sure.
But yeah, I don't think a couple of years ago
Jasper could have even thought about anything like that. He

(20:52):
just wanted to have been there and been gone. But I
think his dnnis SAE when the last time he was onless.
He's grown up so much the last two years, going
to Link Academy out in Saint Louis in the year
at Overtime Elite, I think really brought out the best
in Jasper. I know, sometimes when guys go to prep
schools like man, I wish they'd kind of stayed around

(21:12):
their high school like what Reed Shepherd did. But I
think for Jasper it was a perfect thing for him
and just made him grow up. But I'm with you, Anthony,
knowing that for as long as I have, I would
have never ever taught about him not just doing this
a little bit. But I thought he might just go
on for the rest of the night. I mean, he
was into it up there, wouldn't he. I I just

(21:34):
couldn't get over it. And I hope his hope his
grandfather Alvis was enjoying that performance from up in it.
But I guess Alice would have been shaking his head,
say what's wrong with that?

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Boy? Do you think that is kind of though? Or Larry,
do you think that's kind of where?

Speaker 2 (21:48):
I guess with Nil and just all those things, you
got to market yourself. I know Dennis talked a little
bit about that, trying to get him to come out
of his shell, because you got to be marketable for
agents and a lot of other things. Tim Duncan and
the quiet Leonards and those guys. I don't know if
you're gonna have those guys anymore, even if you want
to be quiet. I think you got to come out
of your shell a little bit.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
Yeah, you certainly do.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
And I can remember, I guess it was Jastro as
a sophomore and Dennis had me come down a couple
of times and did some things with Jasper and we
went through some stuff and about interviewing and what I
looked for from different athletes on social media. Didn't like
when I saw it, and Jasper was still pretty shy
of then. I didn't know if he would ever kind
of all this would sink in. But he has really

(22:30):
became really very very savvy at promoting his own brand,
still very low to whatever team he's on, but also
understanding the significance of promoting his own brand. And the
one thing he's got going for him that you can't
fake is that smile.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
That he's got.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
I mean, it's so genuine. When he's around people, he
can just flash that smile and just kind of melt
your heart. That's going to make him a lot of
money over the next few years.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
I think, yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
And Jack, I don't know if you got any inside scooping.
One thing that kind of surprised me, and I love
the fact that the freshmen all seem to have their
little bond, seemed to be like a little unit. And
I don't know if it was impromptu if it was
choreographed or stage that when the freshman after Jasper did
this thing, a couple of other people came out, but
then all of a sudden, the freshman just kept running

(23:19):
out on the stage and dancing. But it was on
And I may be wrong, but it seemed to me
like it was only the freshman the younger guys. I
don't know if it was hazing, I mean initiation or something.
But was that something that you know, anything inside about,
was something they were supposed to do, or did they
just say, you know what, look, we're gonna steal the show.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
And because there was camp, Kim Williams went out or
a couple of the older kids that jumped out there.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
I think it's just the TikTok generation, Anthony.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
I think they just they wanted to get out there
and then you know, probably recorded.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
Seven eight different or six seven.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
I'm sure it's probably what the more appropriate at the times,
specific themes, specific a reference there. But yeah, I'm I'm
sure they got plenty of content to go viral ten
more times over the next week or so with all
the nonsense that they recorded.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
But hey, that's that's good on Pope.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
Good on the UK for allowing them kind of the
stage instead of saying, all right, now you get in,
get out, let's keep this thing moving, allowing them to
kind of jump back in and record one and you know,
add new new teammates and different songs in different dances.
Like you know, it's let them be kids. It's this
is their their you know, for a lot of them,
it's their one and only shot to do this. And

(24:35):
you know, hopefully we get several years of all these
kids to do it several more times.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
But yes, there is something cool to be said about.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
Them getting this, uh, this opportunity and letting them to
kind of just let their let their hair down.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
A little bit and have some fun.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
Well, speaking of opportunities, how about Brandon Garrison bringing his
son out on stage.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
I love the idea. I'm not sure if the baby
looked the idea.

Speaker 7 (25:00):
I don't think he did. You can tell he had
his little hands over his ears, like this is way
too much for me.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
And I get it.

Speaker 7 (25:08):
It's over stimulation as far as sensory and noise and
fire and crowd and everything like that. But he's going
to look back on it twenty years from now and
think I was a Big Blue Madness on stage, and
for as long as I've been going for thirty three
years now, was that the first baby I've ever seen

(25:29):
on the stage at Big Blue Madness. I would assume
soon I can't remember, but it was still kind of cool.
And twenty years from now, I'll be about sixty eight
something like that, so I'm assuming. And now, how cool
would that be though for him to be at Big
Blue Madness himself?

Speaker 4 (25:47):
It would be good.

Speaker 7 (25:48):
Twenty years from now you and I are still going
to be doing Sunday morning sports talk.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
Sheesh. No, So a fun little note on that. So
they played the Circle of Life. Plan was for Brandon
to lift him up like lion king out there, but
but the kid got scooped and clearly was not enjoying it.
So the music was playing and it was his time

(26:12):
to lift him up and raise him up to the
to the sky, and the baby was like, dude, you
got to.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
Get me off the stage. You got to put me down.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
Yeah, And apparently there was kind of some back and
forth about if, you know, should he wear the headphones
because he's so close to the pyro and the loud
bangs and the you know, the music blaring and all
that stuff. But and they tried, but you know, a
car he didn't want to have that, you know that
he didn't like the headphones over his ears, and it
was kind of throwing a fit. And we got closer
to the you know, like all right, we got to go,

(26:43):
like we gotta we got to make this up, so
make one one what mover another. So he just didn't
work the way they were maybe expecting. But hey, that's
that's what it's all about, and that's good that he got.
He got a chance to show off his his time
as a dad. And then they even found a way
to one up that by bringing him back out onto
the floor and singing him Happy Birthday.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
How cool is.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
That that often do we get twenty thousand people coming
together to sing happy birthday to you know, to you know,
the player, but also the kid of the player and
having the you know, the mom and the dad on
the floor being able to experience that with their son.
That's a really really cool thing.

Speaker 7 (27:19):
They did in defense of the kid. Would you want
to be thrusted out there at that age like Simba
in front of twenty thousand screaming fans like that, And
I don't know if I would.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
You don't. You don't know what that is.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
You're still I think you're still wrong, like you don't
have I don't think you care either way, but I
think your sensories are a little bit. The first time
I saw a kid with headphones on, I think I
was at a game and I was looking like you
missing all an action, young fella, and the parents say
the noise irritates themselves. Oh, I didn't think about that

(27:53):
because they're so young, you know, they're not They're sensitive,
and so that's why I was going to ask Jack, like,
why do we just put the headphones on them? Are
the muffled mufflers in that way it wouldn't be an issue.
But I guess baby didn't like that either. So but
it was a cute moment, very cute cute moment. Let's

(28:14):
get to the phone lines. If you would like to
join the show eight five nine to eight zero two
two eight seven eight five nine to eight zero catch.
Let's get to the phone lines and see what John
Short has to say. Good morning, John Short, what do
you got for us?

Speaker 6 (28:25):
Must say that Jim Danny of a True Blue Man
is yesterday.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Those always Jim Dandy's I don't know of a bad
one yet or I ain't gonna.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Say yet just at all.

Speaker 6 (28:37):
Yeah, and we're gonna have to ask SENNI bast say something.
We'll make the file for women's men's basketball because my
file four always we can take you Vannabilt, Georgia and Alabama.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Well Brooks.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Brooks is talking about winning the championship, so you would
have to go through the final four wins. But Brooks
is already talking about winning the championships. I'm on board
for that.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
I least so tee into Rich Bruce.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
I would assume not. I would, I would, I would
definitely assume not. Why would you assume that, Anthionet because
one coach is football, the other one coaches basketball. Oh good, good,
point good. What else you got for is John Short?

Speaker 6 (29:20):
Let me talk about this today. We played volleyball today.
We played Louisiana State today.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
ESPN down in Baton Rouge and Baton Rouge. We're gonna
win five straight sets, like you usually called it when
we got to sure for when we got it for
sure win. You usually call it five straight sets.

Speaker 6 (29:38):
When we're winning five games and nothing is gonna be
on the radio today.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
I'm assuming not both about my luck. I will walk
out of here, go home and then get a phone
call and say hey, by the way, UK volleyball is
on the radio this afternoon, but we do not have
UK volleyball this afternoon on the radio.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Larry vaugh Is, is LSU listen worthy?

Speaker 4 (30:02):
It probably is not big enough of a competition for
us to war a radio. Well.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
I think it may have something more to do with
the venues. If have to send somebody all the way
to uh to you to do the game would probably
normally the home games are the ones that are on,
but it should be a pretty decent test for Kentucky
Gamp coming off of another top ten win on the road.
Skinners winners, as we say, are cooking right now, and
I think they are. I think they'll get that win

(30:29):
today and just continue and they finally get to come
back home and play next week.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
John Sure, Okay, we we lost some men's soccer but
retired in women's soccer.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
Yes, we lost.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
I still think that since in Southeast Conference, I think
we should do for the soccer please the South Feast Conferences,
the Sun Belt Conference. I'm not James Madison. It should
make you like Randonville, Tennessee and Georgia and all them.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Sure, how that's set up, that's above my pay grade,
John Short, So appreciate the call.

Speaker 6 (31:09):
We'll be Texas at five Big count seven times that
game that.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Is at seven pm here and you catch that on
ESPN if you don't, uh, if you can't make it
out to the Kroger.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
In Texas to feed to Oklahoma.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Yes, we haven't won very many SEC games.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
I'm not sure how big our fan base is on
us pulling that game off, but the conference looks very
competitive right now, and we just have to see how
we come off a bye week, which ain't good for us,
but we'll see, John Short.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
We appreciate the call. Also, thank you for the call. Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
We'll get back to talking some basketball. We did have
Pro Day and we also have media Day, so we
will talk about some of those things when we come back.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLP.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Bard Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Welcome back, Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White,
along with Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Jack.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
I know the video version they covered a lot. I
know they uh the events and all those things were
pretty well much highlighted. Is there anything behind the scenes
that took place or maybe BO know something that took
place that we did not get to see on the
screen that is noteworthy or did they capture everything.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
I'd say, the the before the madness stuff, you know,
the fan fest that there's a lot of good and
some kind of backlash with that that will you know.
I know Bo and I talked beforehand that we definitely
want to you know, address and talk about a little bit.
But you know, like the big Blue carpet and a
lot of this stuff of seeing the celebrities come through, Richie,

(33:06):
some of the recruits that you know, they're not allowed
to publicize that when they're on campus, but you know,
we got to see some top five recruits there and
kind of soaking in all the fun and see and
seeing the fan base kind of at its peak form.
So you know, so some not so publicized things I
did hear. So we got Georgia Amore on the call
for the women's side for the SEC Network Plus broadcast.

(33:31):
So it's my understanding that up until last week, it
was actually going to be DeMarcus Cousins stepping in on
the men's side to kind of be there to support
John Wall's return, and it was going to be the
Boogie and John Wall show again for the return, but
there was a scheduling conflict and Boogie ended up having

(33:51):
to be in China yesterday during during the event, so
he could not swing that. But yes, there was a time,
a time and dream of of Boogie and John Wall
showing up and throwing it back to two thousand and
nine together, So that.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
Would have been cool.

Speaker 5 (34:08):
But it's still just the what they were able to
pull off was so cool and so neat and just
you know, very grateful for what we did get. And
I do think Tubby Tubby being there definitely deserves some
real flowers, because you know, he's he he kind of
had a polarizing exit and you know, the finish finish here,

(34:28):
it could have been easy for him to kind of
turn away from Lexington, turn away from the fan base
and say, nah, you know, if you guys didn't welcome
me with open arms there at the very end, So
why would I come back? But man, the way we've
come full circle with that and given him his flowers
that he so clearly deserves. That I just I love
that Tubby is openly talking about making Lexington his permanent home.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
And is it just the.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
Format of the duncan competition or Colin Chanler probably the
best dunker on the team, or got the beis hops Colin?

Speaker 5 (35:00):
Yeah, Colin, Colin definitely has the best hops. And but
there are some some other you know, good competitors. Modia
Batte threw down some some underrated dunks and uh, but
you know, when you have Colin coming back, it was
the question was would he be able to one up
last year's performance wherein uh, Mark Pope's forty one jersey

(35:21):
from Kentucky jumping over Mark and Leeann Pope in the
dunk contest.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
That was a heck of a debut.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
But hey, when you have John Wall in attendance to
throw you assists when you're jumping from the free throw line,
floating like Jordan, you know, and calling it back to
you know, Mark Pope's iconic you know introduction next to
John Wall where he's playing the bulls intro music from
from the Michael Jordan days. It just had all tied

(35:47):
in together so so beautifully. So yes, definitely deserved the
championship crown. There for the dunk contest, and I was
kind of taken back by the dunk.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
I don't know if you peeped it or not, but
Colin could have He was a step inside of the
free throw line, but he could have. He had to
pull his arm back like he had to try to
flush it and let up, so he probably could have
came from the free throw line. And that's what kind
of got my attention. I didn't know that his bunnies
were that were that magnificent.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
So I talked to an NBA scout after Pro Day Tuesday,
and so I talked to him Wednesday, and he said
that that Colin Chandler looked like the All American that
we saw him in high school to be as the
top thirty five recruit. Said that he looked every bit
of that and then some but you know, the polished
to everything coming together for him and uh in perfect fashion.

(36:40):
So it's a it's a breakout season for Colin Chandler.
You bet you better buy stock now or else you
know if the world's.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
Going to leave you behind.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
And I know, I know they asked Mark Stoops, I
mean Mark Pope about his season, and you know, obviously
he said it is a good problem to have with
not knowing who's going to be a star. Line got
so many players that could actually start here or start
at other places. But after watching you know, the Pro
Day and just you know, big big Blue Madness is
pretty much just a highlight of showcase of talent or whatever.

(37:12):
But it has opened my eyes, just like I said,
with Colin shooting, Trent shooting, AJ shooting. But then you know,
you got to play on both ends of the court,
so you got some guys who are just going to
be defensive stoppers or rebounders and things like that. But
did this opening week cloud anything for you, Jack as
far as us just covering UK basketball? You know what,

(37:34):
hold that thought because we only got about thirty seconds.
So that's where we're going to kind of talk about
about what you saw on Pro Day, you know, coming
into getting ready for the season. Anything we saw this
weekend that might make things tough for Mark Pope to
make a conversation or make decisions on who he's going
to have, which is a good problem to have. As

(37:54):
he stated this weekend, we will be back at the
top of the hour. You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday
morning sports talk on news radio six thirty WAP
