Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Mornings Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vault and Bo Robinson. Stockyards Bank
is your trusted partner since nineteen o four, so head
on over to syb dot com for all your banking
and financial needs. Larry Vault, I went back and I watched,

(00:32):
and I have to disagree. I have to disagree with
you and Dennis. It looks like he did not break
the plane, but I only got one angle. But from
the angle I'm looking at it and looking at the
bulldog's helmet, the ball did not make it to their helmets,
which their helmet was already passed the line of scrimmage.

(00:52):
They were on the half foot their helmets were and
that's kind of how you gauge ball position a lot
of times. So it didn't seem like it was a
bad call for me. What did the fans and the
message board say?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think most of the internet reaction, I thought it
was a touchdown based on the one replay that I
saw that looked like it was that you may have
seen a different than what I got to see or something,
so I don't know. But it was a huge, huge
play in that game, is all. And like I say,
Albert out played them so much that first half and

(01:31):
Georgia was only down ten to three. Then Georgia came
back and took care of things in the second half.
But that was a very bizarre and controversial moment. As
you were watching some of that game.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, I said, it was ten nothings. So even if
you even well, I guess, even if you have to
settle for a field goal, which I'm not sure you do,
if you that close, it still gets you thirteen nothing
instead of seventeen nothing, but just to lose the ball completely,
you come away with zero points.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, and then I think I believe Georgia responded by
going in and driving for a field goal, and that's
when they got their field go If I remember, I
watched so many things that I got home late last night,
bits piece had my memories not great. But then I
think that turned it into a ten to three he said,
of what looks like it was going to be seventeen
zero at halftime.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
So I guess I'm guessing that takes any chance at Auburn,
especially at home. I guess that takes off to play
for you. The fact that they dominated Georgia.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
For half, Yeah, you'd probably be guessing right.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
These are some bad days, man. I don't know if
I ever remember feeling this bad about you know. I
usually can find some hope somewhere, but I don't know.
I still got a little slither of hope. Larry, and
we come out of by weekend and upset Texas well.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Same year, Like I got a little sliver of hope.
We're still going to be able to get Greg Williams
on the phone with this. He's had a little bit
of phone issue, but hopefully both was gonna be to
get through to it.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, we're gonna have Greg on at eleven thirty five,
So we got a short segment here coming up on
a break and Greg was totally cool about coming on
with us at eleven thirty five. Can I throw something
out there about football?

Speaker 5 (03:12):
No?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay, fine, go ahead, what if we are? What's that?

Speaker 6 (03:18):
I said?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I might not catch it, but you could throw if.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
You fumble it.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
It's okay because I've just brought this up about as
a point of discussion with all my friends. What if
we are all wrong about this and the season turns
around starting on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I've tried that, I've had that thought. I had that thought.
I'm not saying it will.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
I'm just saying what if.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I know. I got done saying what if because people
kept getting mad, so I stopped. I stopped the what ifs.
And and the problem I think is what if because
we got too many operational problems. Like I said the
before half, we just keep on missclock management, people miss
align and people not knowing where to line up, shifting late,

(04:07):
and it's just a whole lot of things come out
of time out and punt the ball or I mean,
it's just some bizarre things, some things you've probably never
seen happen in a football or not seeing happen in
the football more than once. Bo Robinson has happened multiple
time in games, and multiple times.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
A lot of reasons for us. I know, weird things happen.
When we're in the middle of October going into Halloween
and you have a big rivalry coming up, like Tennessee,
weird things will happen.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
So you hold out hope for Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
I'm not saying anything No, No, absolutely not. I mean
to me, if I was a betting man, which I'm not,
you know, I think Tennessee comes into Commonwealth and gets
this one from the Cats. But if something weird happens,
that's what I want to happen. I want Kentucky to win.
Of course, I want.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Kentucky to win.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You act like you know something. I don't know anything.
Larry Vaugh does he sound like he knows something. The
way he keeps on, Well, if something strange happens.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Sounds like a man. Sorry, put his money down easy. No,
I'm with you. Anthony's that was a confident of very
confident prediction, kind of like telling the rest of us,
go ahead, get some of his money that's coming. I'm
going to make myself a little note here. Now we
might be missing out.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
We're not concerned about how much you lose. They're only
concerned about the next bet.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Larry Vaught, before we go to break, when we got
about thirty seconds, we're coming back with Greg, So we're
gonna just be totally basketball when we've done. So let
me finish off this football thing. Dennis brought it up,
and I know we're just just conversation purposes. Does that
matter if the next coach is offensive? Mind to coach
and d this keeps coming up every now and then
to the fan base or Larry Vaught, Does it matter

(05:54):
if we get officive coaches because we've been so staggnedan
in offense the past couple of years.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
I don't know if it matters to how the program
will pan out, but I think it matters to a
lot of fans who would like to and I know
probably players like yourself. It kills you when you hear
folks like me talk about this. The fans would like
to be entertained. I mean, if you don't win, but
yet you feel like at least you're entertained. And I
think most fans entertainment means they want to see some points.

(06:23):
They don't want to see a defense that shuts people's ups.
They want to see an offense they can move the
ball up and down the field. It's what an average
fan would like to see. So I think from the
average fans perspective, the majority of people that feel Kroger
Field with a game, they would like to see a
coach they believe is going to generate offense.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Larry Vaught, if the fans want to see points. We've
seen thirty five points in our last two contests. They
just one on our side of the scoreboard. When we
come back, we'll have Greg Williams. We would continue to
show after this year. Are listening to Stockyards Banks Sunday
one and Sports Talk on news radio six WLAP.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'man Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Bo Robinson. This hour
of Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you by
a Country Boy Brewing, and we're now proud to be
joined by Greg Williams, father of Kentucky six eight sophomore

(07:31):
Cam Williams. Good morning, mister Williams house it.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Going, good morning. Everything is well. How about you?

Speaker 2 (07:37):
We're doing pretty good. You've been the talk most of
this morning, mainly because of the shooting ability of your
young man. But I would like to I asked Larry Vaddy.
He didn't know where does he get his basketball talent
from his shooting ability?

Speaker 6 (07:53):
First, still accumulation of hard work on his behalf.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
I don't want to take any credit. You know.

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Of course as a father, I tried to work with
him when he was younger and he was very cooperative,
and it's it's something that we.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Built on over the years. You know, we had our.

Speaker 6 (08:13):
Challenges as his hands grew bigger and he got longer,
got to be a chanlenge and so.

Speaker 5 (08:21):
It was. It was fun, but it was rewarding. So
it took a little time.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
And I'm talking a little because I'm at Coach Folk's
house and we're doing introductions with the players.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
So I'm trying not to be a distraction.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Let us help hope you on radio with us. He'll
be okay with it? Great?

Speaker 2 (08:44):
And how does that make you feel? Uh? We got
all the big Blue nation watching. It's on SEC network,
and you got a kid out there trying to make
a half course shot and it ain't looking good. Greg's
not looking good for young man and the coach puts
your son on this bought from half court on a
spot and nothing but net How did how did that

(09:05):
make you feel?

Speaker 6 (09:07):
You know, it felt great and the best way to
end the half since he was seven or eight years old,
so it wasn't anything new to us.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
What disappointed me, Greg, I was looking for you to
come storm in the court right out there with his teammates.
When he did it, I didn't see you. You just
managed to keep yourself under control.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
There, I did. I did.

Speaker 6 (09:32):
Hey, can you guys, can y'all do a little commentary
because everybody introduced her?

Speaker 5 (09:36):
So I don't want to. I don't know the exchange
on the phone.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Oh no, that's fine, uh bo, if you take him
down or whatever, we will say Larry that I thought
it was got to be a stand up guy to
be at the coach's house and come on for an interview. Uh,
right there, right there in the middle of business.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Yeah, yeah, it's It just kind of shows how how
he is, how how excited he is to be part
of Big Blue Nation along with his son, and how
much they're enjoying this experience already. And as I said,
I think they're just going to enjoy it more and
more all season. Because I'm assuming I don't know if
Greig is still with us, or he's just listening right now,

(10:21):
or is he still on the line with us? Okay,
I'm assuming Greg that your whole family's here with you,
that this weekend. Is that is that right?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yes? He is Jordan only and uh, Larry, I don't
want to get anyone in trouble. I do know that
they are extra, extremely busy. But I would assume that
Pope would jump on the would jump on the phone
if we asked him. I'm not saying we're going to
ask him, but that's not something you will put past
Mark Pope? Is it?

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Now? With Mark?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
I think there's there's nothing that you would say what
would surprise you, and I would Yes, Greg, that's one
thing that you all really love about Mark is just
that personality.

Speaker 6 (11:05):
Were his whole sting and he's talking, he's introducing everyone.
He is the life of the party, talking about how
he lost five thousand dollars last night.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
Let him can see me?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
So, just out of curiosity, Greg, don't all of y'all
already know each other? Who's he introducing you to?

Speaker 5 (11:27):
Well? I was younger to all of the family. Were
all that, Oh.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Soo did you kind of get to know each other's family?

Speaker 5 (11:35):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I got you now, Okay, that's what was confusing me.
And also, but I'm assuming you and your family will
you all be here for every game you plan to
be up for every game this season.

Speaker 5 (11:46):
Well, we can't come to everyone. We're going to have
representatives at everyone.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Uh oh okay, yeah, So can you elaborate or speak
on with the witness of Big Blue Madness? Is I
know you've been here a little while, but even with
the fan fest and all those things going on, I
heard it was action packed down there. And is this
first experience of something of this magnitude in sports?

Speaker 5 (12:17):
It is. I had son, my oldest son, that was
at Saint John's. She was at you.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
University's in and I feed and of course cameras at Tulane.
But I can take all of the fans from all
three schools and it may be section thirty one.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Big Blue Madness. We never had that many people.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
And lenis just as a father, you love to see
your son sixty. You love to see your son getting
in love from fans and friends and big blue nations.
The celebrations is like no other. I was sold that
over and over again. And when I came looking at
trading cars looking at it, find you there was a

(13:04):
car enthusiast who loves Kentucky. Everything on the Monstang, as
you say, the team bus, the line for them to
sign autographs is more people that attends many games at
all of the schools. I love so crazy, but I

(13:26):
loved it.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
Greg.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
What we're going to have to do is when we
figure out one weekend that you're coming to town for
a Saturday game at all, and you're going to stay
over and still be in town on Sunday morning, We're
just going to get you to come into studio with us.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
You know what, you know, next time I come, I'm
coming to the studio. Can I'll give you notice?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Okay, you do that. We'll work in there. We'll just
come and we'll set back. We want to let you
talk and hit out antone bow and out. We'll just
listen to you.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
That sounds good, all right, Greg. We're gonna let you
get back to coach Pope tell coach we wish them
all the best, and we wish Cam and you all
all the best and safe travels back.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Thank you. I definitely let everyone know that I was
on with the greatest show in contexts.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Oh, thank you. I appreciate that, mister Williams. Okay, yeah,
so that pretty neat stuff, Larry. I didn't know that
they had the like you said, the family stuff at
their house. I thought they usually met at certain venues
or something like that, or is that something common now.
I know the players always go to the coaches houses,

(14:31):
and you don't have team building and bonding exercises and
experience experiments. But I've never really known them to have
all the players' families over there entertaining.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
No. I just let's say it's a concept we can't
quite think of. It's sink what it must be like
for kind of house shift to have where you can
just have or fifteen sixteen players and their families all
come to your house and I'll just be able to
sit around, have a big enough room you can introduce
everybody in, So that's market. I think John probably did
some things like that when he was here too. But
don surprise you that Mark is doing that kind of

(15:06):
thing and all. I mean, he's that's just how he is.
But that's why we couldn't qunderstand who is introduced by
I guess that's right. Probably all the families really don't
know each other yet, and this is a chance to
have them to be able to sit down and when
you kind of hear each other versus when you're a
Rubberena trying to watch a game or something to have
a chance just to kind of talk and get along
with each other. And I would think, Anthony, that that's

(15:28):
something that probably your mom would have loved when she
was playing, to be able to know all the other
players moms and dads and all like that. I would
think it a sort of way that even helps your
team chemistry.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Yeah, and maybe because there's so many more football players.
I know my mom had a lot of experience, experience
experiences with Derek Homer's family and George Massey. His family
was pretty close with my mom. Tony Woods was my
college roommate, so our parents had our mothers had to
get together a whole lot of times. But I just

(16:01):
guess that because there's more football players, because I know
Stu has, you know, the families, Like I got to
meet a lot of the players he recoups. It's not
even only his position, the players he recruits. I meet
a lot of their families. I met Jamarrown, will Cox's mentor,
hung out with him and like I said, Jason Patterson,
but it just happens to be running backs. I guess
he's trying to He's trying to get him familiar with

(16:25):
or trying to make them comfortable because I play running back,
but you get to meet a lot of them, So
I think it may happen a little bit more than
you think. I don't think it happens at that stage,
maybe because there's so many players, But I think it
would be good to have the parents meet with the players,
just because I think at that point when you come
in town, especially if you're in town for a weekend,

(16:45):
you got people to go out and eat with people
that say at the games. It got to the point
where my mom got to know people here that she
was spending at their houses. She gets in later and
she didn't want to get a room or they would
insist that she stayed with some of the people. So
I'm not sure. If it's not a common thing, it
probably happens. Like you said, now, it's probably commonplace, but
all back in the nineteen hundreds, I wasn't a common thing.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
No, Well, that's pretty cool the way that that's goes on.
I really like the way that Mark Pope does this.
And it's like, I say, to think that Gregs couldn't
have to go ahead and jump on with us. I
knew we were having trouble getting there must be some
reason going going on. When I've tried to text him
and he finally got back with me, he said, well,

(17:29):
he said, kind of call, might not be able to
talk her a loud. Well, that's not Craig Williams. We
know now. I guess I kind of understand kind of
understand it a little bit more at all what is
going on right there with that. So, but appreciate him
being all with us. And I also did have one
one of our listeners text me and remind me that
we haven't mentioned what a huge basketball commitment that Kenny

(17:51):
Brooks team has re seasons. We were all last week
and we're wondering kind of how recruiting is going with
Mark popenall. But Kenny Brooks now has picked up his
third top twenty five commitment with Emily McDonald committed, so
he's already got three top twenty five players committed the
next year's signing class, Anthony and another McDonald's All American.

(18:11):
I think will be another McDonald's All American. All three
of these should probably McDonald's All Americans. And think about
that if he would sign three McDonald's All Americans.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
In one year that I guess it kind of shows
up in his in his words, because he was talking
on when I watched the girl's portion of Big Blue
Madness and they were talking to him in Georgia that
he was basically saying, they're expecting to win the national
chair And it's not kind of that where you know,
coaches just say the right things to get the fan

(18:41):
base off. I think I think he legitimately thinks he
had we have an opportunity and he seems to feel
that last year were just scraping the surface of what
he plans on doing here. And I think it may be,
like you said, the ability to get to get the
top talent to come to play in his system, because
he's he's definitely a great coach, but to be able

(19:02):
to have some talent that we haven't seen here that
many players together. You know, we've had some great players here,
I one or two here and there, but as you stated,
man to get McDonald's all Americans, several of them in
one year. I don't know if I've ever witnessed that here,
but I don't hardly keep up with women until the

(19:22):
past two years.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
No, I can guarantee you they've not had very many
McDonald's All Americans periods, so they've never had where they
would have had two or three and one in one
signing class. That's going to be pretty amazing. And when
you think about Matthon Greenway, the guard out of Minnesota
that he has got the commitment from, and we've had

(19:47):
her dad on with us, the former NFL linebacker Chad Greenway.
But she just broke the all time Minnesota state record
for goal scored in soccer. She's now got two hundred
and four goals soccer, and I think you would would
be fair to say I don't think she would take
the consults of this. She just kind of plays soccer
and has something to do in the fall before she

(20:07):
get traded to play. And she's an all time leading
goal scorer in the state of Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Wow. But I thought when we talked to her dad,
she was good. Her and her sister were good at a
lot of different things.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
They are that they are, but there's a difference between
being good being a state record holder. I mean, you're
going to be a McDonald's All American and you're a
top ten basketball player nationally and now you set the
all time goal record in soccer. I mean, it's amazing.
She's also a state champion in track. I mean she's
a generational or could be a generational type player. I

(20:40):
think for Kentucky she's just really, really good. I think
she's gonna be a lot of fun to watch when
she gets You like to say, she still got another
full year for she'll.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Even be here, and there's no I know, it's a
long ways off. There's no way that she plays multiple sports.
You think I would like to have that on my
resume if I've always been successful, I would like to
have that on my resume. But I know the demand
is going to take, you know, to play for Brooks
and you know, achieve the goals they're trying to achieve.
But I think that would be awesome to be a
multiple multiple sport athlete. Nowadays, Oh yeah, it would be.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
I mean, well you've been for the last time we
had Dennis Johnsaw. You could tell he's still kind of
regretted that it didn't work at to where he could
play basketball when he was there with you guys, he
really wanted to play and it just didn't quite work out.
But I think in the day's age, it would be
even more incredible if you were able to do that.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
That is Larry Vaught. We will be back after this.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Barge Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Welcome back Stockyards Bank the Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I
mean Anthony White along with Larry Vaught and Bo Robinson.
Larry Vaught did Amelia has tod? Did she win the

(22:02):
three point competition last year?

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I think she did. I think she's a two time winner.
Maybe maybe that's why Bo was playing that great celebrate song.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
But cool of a.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Game, Well, it is a celebration of all Kentucky basketball.
So yes, you are correct, Larry Vaught. And now I
believe Colin Chandler won the dunk contest last year too,
didn't he?

Speaker 2 (22:21):
He did? He did?

Speaker 3 (22:24):
How coolest it to get an assist from John Wall.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Absolutely the coolest And I'm not cuting Larry. I don't
know if you know anything about jumping. He jumped a
foot inside of not a foot, like a half astride
in side of the three point I mean from the
free throw line, which was very closer to the free
throw line, but he had to pull his hand back
like he had to make rooms so he didn't overthrow it.

(22:48):
So he still had he could have jumped on the
free throw line. But then again, he's run.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
He started his run for the iHeart studio.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Me.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
My gosh, she came from.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
He was doing like one hundred meters sprint to get
ready to get When he took off, he just went
flying through that air, didn't.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
He Yeah, but in all honesty, you got to get
that much speed up to jump from that far, So
you don't remember when Jordan did. He he went all the
way back to the other end of the thing. I
didn't know from the camera angle, I couldn't tell what
was going on because it looked like originally that John
was throwing the ball off the side of the backboard,
and I was like, why is he going all the
way back there if he's throwing off the side of
the backboard. But it was magnificent, and the kudos to

(23:26):
John Wall even ra John rounding those guys who try
and put differences aside and you know, try to bridge
the gap between the past and the future of UK basketball.
It seemed like they're making a certain effort and I
love the way those guys do it.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
And don't overlook how many Kentucky basketball legends were on
hand for Big Blue Madness yesterday. I don't know if
that was available on the telecast. That part not to
see everybody come down to the court. And I was
that on the concourse and I just saw them all
walking by me and Ramel Bradley was there and he

(24:02):
saw Coach w Smith and the next thing, you know,
with that Jarez and Richie Farmer and Larry Stamper Bo
Lantern and it was just really cool to see everybody
and then here comes Jack Gibbons. And if you just
happen to be on the concourse and you saw all
the former players get up and walk out and then
down to the court, you really saw something special.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
You know what I would love to see UK do
put together a possessional of all of our grace. I
guess you can. I would say great. I would have
to be like all Americas, there's something all sec because
you got a cap it somewhere and just see how
long the video would run, which is just as long
as line it up as long as it is, and
that would be something that I think you could you

(24:42):
